#37 Live - "The Unseen Realm" with Dr. Neil T. Anderson

welcome to freedom of Christ we are being overwhelmed in our world today with the coronavirus and everybody's thinking about germs and viruses including and another one to you tonight and something I've prayed about thought about all this week because you have to almost wonder what is going on in the heavenlies during the time of world crisis like this and where is this all going to end up and that we just don't know that's why if there was every time we needed to put our lives in the hands of the one who does know it has to be right now I wouldn't introduce you to a book that when you've gone to school as many years as I've had and read as many books as I read you're really looking for some new material some time and and I found it it's called the unseen realm and by Michael Fraser almost every page was new to me it was I felt like I was back in school or not kind of all over again but he has exposed something but I'm just very very grateful to him for I have approached spiritual warfare almost totally from a New Testament New Covenant position and he's looking at and he just added pieces to my puzzle I didn't even know we're missing so if you ever hear this Michael Heizer thank you very much and what I found it to be just totally congruent frankly with what I've been teaching but but from an Old Testament perspective and let me just share some kudos he said this is the provocative book that is badly needed many readers will be surprised by it I was both this main theme and certain specific parts of it this is because the author highlights the unseen realm as the Bible presents it in its ancient context one of the things he brings out in the book is the arrow most that we make unwittingly and understandably I that we look at the Old Testament through the grid of the New Testament and he said what you need to do is to understand the the culture of the belief system the worldview that they had in those days and look at the New Testament through the grid of the Old Testament I totally agree with that by the way but he said the Bible presents his ancient context but this part of what the Bible teaches has not been well incorporated into either Christian theology or the preaching and teaching of the believe insurance amen I just told the echo that that's from a professor of Old Testament at evangelical Trinity Evangelical Divinity School and this professor starts out how is it possible that I'd never seen that before and they men felt the same way dr. Kaiser survey and the complex reality the supernatural world as the scripture portrays it covers a subject that is strangely sidestep I agree Michael Heizer as he taught a for seminary anyway Michael Heizer has written an incredibly accessible and well researched book on some notoriously thorny biblical passages Heisner x' work on the divine council has earned him respect in the scholarly community for years and has now made this available to all that's from Professor College Jules arcs I bring that out especially because I want to bring that to your attention the so-called divine council that was never really talked to me in seminary when I went to school but his belief is and what he documents the scripture is clearly true I mean you know that Jehovah God has around him a heavenly realm a divine council and and he works through that now that really in what sense probably should be new or particularly surprising but what was kind of interesting to me was essentially it's a spiritual realm that really pre-existed creation and and they are created bees or spirits basically they're Elohim scripturally they're Elohim the word Elohim I would have at one time kind of thought well that's just where you know for God but actually the word Elohim is just describing a spiritual realm and one place in Old Testament Satan is called Elohim and God actually is Elohim but not all Elohim are God God Jehovah God is unique in the Father Son Holy Spirit but he has this divine counsel and I want to bring a passage to share with you because as you understand the world were falling because unfortunately a third of those Elohim you know fell because of Satan and rebelling against God and God had intended on earth to create children to God which is what they are as well by the way who would serve Him here on planet earth but they failed were separated from God and all the chaos that ensued after that but this passage in first Kings chapter 2 it's just such a fascinating that counted this and sets us up for the weeks that we have ahead the king of Israel at that time was Ahab the worst of the worst how bad was he in the previous chapter verse 25 surely there was no one like a hab who sold herself to do evil in the sight of the Lord because Jezebel his wife has cited him I'm gonna come back to that later but they have reason that there was a piece of property known as ramoth-gilead that should rightly belong to them but had been taken away from them so he calls Jehoshaphat the king of Israel and said will you join with me and trying to bring back this property and Jehoshaphat said well if you consulted God first and so he called in his prophets and 400 prophets all said basically go up you know and but Jehoshaphat saw through the whole thing he said is there not a prophet a true prophet of Jehovah God and am had to meet yeah that's probably one has a the one he said but he always speaks on favorably towards me and so he was sent for and the man who sent for him said to them the messenger went down to Micaiah said to him saying behold now the words of the Prophet are uniform uniformly favorable to the king please let your word be like the word of one of them speak favorably Micaiah said I when I speak what the Lord gives to me and so he went up and approached a ab he says go on up it was actually fooling with him and we must have seen the sarcasm and he said I always told you to tell me the truth why would you tell me the true so he told him the truth he said I saw all Israel scattered on the mountains like sheep which have no Shepherd and the Lord said these have no master but each of them return to the house and peace and the King Ahab said Josefa did I not tell you that he would not prophesy good concerning me but evil did might hear the truth now listen to macaé statement therefore hear the word of the Lord I saw the Lord sitting on his throne and all the host of heaven divine counsel spirits standing by him on his right and on his left and the Lord said who will entice a hab to go up and fall at RAM of Gilead and once said this while another said that I didn't picture this just for a moment it's like God is sitting in front of his divine counsels it's like the boss sitting with his staff and discussing this with him and then a spirit came forward and stood before the Lord and said I will entice him and the Lord said to him how and he said well I will go out and be a deceiving spirit and the mouth of all his prophets then he said you are too enticed him and also prevail go and do so and so and so one of the staff came forward volunteered I mean this is kind of my Bob Bain if you think about it gives you kind of a different concept of Lord God himself and not as some ruling dictator people but as a loving kind father talking to his children essentially and in schooling them now what dr. Heiser says and frankly I think you would have to agree with him these are not perfect people these are not created perfect like God is perfect there's only one scripture said who is good jesus said that himself and and so able to make decisions themselves and a third of them had fallen and they were evil they were no longer good and now therefore behold the Lord has put a deceiving spirit in the mouth of all these young prophets of the Lord has proclaimed disaster against you now keep this in mind folks because we're living in an era probably approaching the return of God I don't know when I certainly don't come amongst those who are set any dates on that kind of an offense but it is a blessed hope of the church but one of the things that we know for a fact about the end times if there will be false teachers false prophets and false messiahs and in a particular case of yeah you're dealing with prophets of bail and that's exactly what the Elijah had to deal with 450 prophets of bail and he had his big contest between them and he created two altars and he said why don't you call down bail your God el at that time and and and and bring fire to the altar of course they cut themselves and just like pagans do and whatever else nothing happened in her life just said well here let me have my alternative water did a little dead called down gone down the King and it just demonstrated and then he sue the 450 prophets of bail strangely you ran from Jezebel shows that good people can still beat escape do you believe the lion ran really tragic my hero actually ran no as you consider this passage as we look in the days ahead and trying to understand what discernment is and and how we're protected during this time where there will be false teachers and false prophets and how do we know them from a true the truth and the word we're going to look at very specific details of that in the coming weeks ahead but keep in mind something rather radical because in the unseen realm that he describes he dealt with some passage of scriptures almost nobody wants to really deal with in fact you look at a lot of evangelical literature they just kind of get well some say this and some say that never really take a definitive stand but the passage for instance that you would read very early on in Genesis now it happened that when Haman kind began to multiply in the face of the ground daughters were born to them then the sons of God saw the daughters of humankind and they were beautiful they took for themselves wise from them and and then he just said my spirit won't entertain this and so what what he takes the position was and I've never doubted it to be honest with you is it really created a bastard race a mixture of these angelic beings these Elohim and man and and Giants were produced and they saw Giants in the land and and then when they were to go in and take Philistine they were to eradicate that whole race and that's why you would read him passages they used to go ha God you know kill all the children and everything animals moms and dads I said I mean it just kind of boggles your mind that a loving God would do that and so you struggle with that and then you and I I've always kind of tried to explain it for myself I said well if you have cancer in a body the only loving thing to do is cut the cancer out well that was you know maybe a good illustration but truth of the matter is and I encourage you to get the book and read it because he really defines it and how that race continued on and and God was trying to eradicate it in the passage we're looking at right now how bad was a hem and how bad was Jezebel that eventually you know their seed was sown in so many places that all that had to be eradicated and never looked at this past and what follows after that every one of them were taken out in one case I think was like 70 heads were stacked on the hill and and we he just totally destroyed that bloodline because it could do nothing but promote evil from that time on it's really hard I think for us to just understand that who are raised in a Western world everything is based on rationalism and naturalism but Paul says that what you see is eternal that what you don't see as Temple is passing away for Paul the unseen world is more real than the natural world and it's just as real to be sure what we don't always see is how that is worked out in in human relationships and how it works out in different people let me illustrate I've often used us this kind of a illustration of blinding and I've asked Christian groups around the world actually I said you read about the wheat and the tares and who are they what are the wheat in the tares and almost across the board people will say Wells believers are not believers I said well I actually tells you right in the passage what they are the wheat are the sense of God the tares are the sons of the evil one so on there by the devil in other words essentially heard the word where's me do two nights of lectures on that whole passage you know taking the stand which I frankly agree with they're not redeemable they're so on there but the devil and they are products of that thing kind of a like a bastard race and you say really there's people walking around here that are think well listen to what Paul says in Ephesians chapter 2 you were born dead in your trespasses and sins we all were we were born separated from God some of those are redeemed and but now all are apparently but it says you walk you and I walked according to the course of this world according to the Prince of the power of the air of the spirit that is not working in this of disobedience and he referred to the Serie T's you are of your father the devil there would be a time and I would just time to say well you know your fallen after this kind I don't think that's really true I think that there are people who are in this world who are sons of the Evil One and and their soul in there any time God so is a good see the devil so is the bad seed now scripture says the Satan is the god of this world that the whole world lies in the power of the evil one if you're a true believer you can't just brush off those passages you need to see how that's playing out in the world that we're living in today I mean one of the ways that I do it because bottom line is is that you're going to have people today say and I cast I'll deal with the net prophesy in your name you depart from me you who practice lawlessness you say what is the ground-level answer to all of this thing live or right just like if it's actually in one sense that easy your your divine protection has all been provided you by God it requires a participation I'm not pry or say I'm going to share with later on in another segment but why are we to be holy as Christ is holy and why is that so critically essential I said because it's your divine protection I said if that's the answer just live a righteous life then why do I have to know about all this other stuff I said let me illustrate I said because you're dealing with a man seen world spirit are spirits you can't see them you don't respond the natural census so I have to trust God to give me the the view that I need to see know the reality of the world that is around me and so I have to always go back to scripture to see the a basis for understanding the world that I live in the worldview that I incorporate but I have to see that from God's perspective and I said you say there was a time 200 years ago people didn't know or believe there were germs I said and actually right now wait listen believes there are germs but how many of you actually seen one I've seen a few Germans but I've never really seen a germ to be honest with you and I said but I believe them there I said well through germs all around what should they do you start scratching and itching and whatever else and I said no I said that is not a proper response if you become germ oriented you're gonna be a hypochondriac the only proper response to the fact that there are germs today is the live a healthy life a little balanced healthy life umyou system will take care of yourself that's also true spiritually there's demons in this world so live a righteous life it took another hundred years to discover viruses and since why do we need to know about them I said if you don't believe that they're there you won't scrub your hands you won't wash up and how important is that right now during the middle of this coronavirus I said you want to protect yourself from viruses which you can't see then cleanse yourself you want to protect yourself from demons you can't see then cleanse yourself we have an active part in this too it's it's really interesting to read this from an Old Testament professors perspective because I don't care what learning institution you come from we all come from different ones and we all view truth from a little different perspective and so when I'm enriched like I was reading this book here hearing this from a Hebrew Old Testament and a very scholarly perspective I was blessed over the years to be a friend with dr. Clinton Arnold who is a raised in Bakersfield California and we overlapped one here at el but I came in my first year as a professor he actually took a class from me anyone and studied under I hard Marshall in the in Aberdeen you know preeminent New Testament theologian too just to basically ascertain what are the principalities and powers in the books of seasons and Colossians and and he was just come from a Mennonite background very conservative background and came to the conclusion that you could argue with biblically he's talking about demonic hierarchy principalities powers have been user rulers is a demonic cleric how does Satan carry on a worldwide how does it become the god of this world and it's through that those spiritual world out there that spiritual world and always demon Tovah School of Theology and it's written a couple powerful books on Ephesians power of math magic and Colossians and and really was one of the preeminent scholars to help us understand that what I was always taught that the big issue that the epistles are written against as Nazism but Gnosticism didn't even occur on the scenes until the second century and what he really was referring to well at that time was to deal with the ocultism that had come into the Hebrew community and that's why you see so much literature on that in Ephesians and Colossians I've approached this thing 30-some years ago looking for answers for people so mine is a is a pastoral perspective and I've seen how this played out in helping people overcome depression and fear and anxiety disorders etc and understanding that battle for their mind doesn't give you a case in point you may have heard this one before but it's an email I got don't know this person but she wrote she said I wanted to write to thank you so much for showing me how to be free of something I always suspected was an issue but was never quite sure about it for years ever since I was a teenager she said I'm now 36 I had these voices in my head they reformed particular and sometimes what seemed loud course of them when the subject of schizophrenia would come up on television or the magazine I would think to myself I know I'm not schizophrenic but what is this in my head I was tortured mocked jeered every single thought I had was second-guess consequently I had zero self-esteem I often used to wish the voices would be quiet and I always wondered if other people had this as well or if it was common when I started to learn from you about taking every thought captive to the beatings of Christ and read a few months back about people's experiences with voices that came to realize them for what they were I was able to make them leave that was an amazing a beautiful thing to be fully quiet in my mind after so many years of torment I do not need to explain further all the wonderful things that come with its freedom of the mind it's a blessing you seem to know well she said I could write volumes above this listen people yes we are in a world struggle right now with viruses and germs principally viruses but ever since the fall this whole world has been struggling with a spiritual realm spiritism is the number one religious orientation of this world there are more practising spiritus in the world than any other organized religion they know it's out there they know it's there it's not a formal religion per se and it's interesting how they all kind of seem to be aware that there is some kind of a superior being but they can't reach them they can't get to them Christian we have we have we have connected with the source of life he is my life God's my life he gave me life he breathed into me his life we're children of God all the protection we need is in Christ the only sanctuary we have is in Christ it is not a building it's not an occult location it's not a place it's our position in Christ and and this is the core of our teaching and freedom to Christ Ministries I think we are heading for tremendous deception I've just seen us everywhere and and and people like yet I said we just went through a bogus impeachment trial where people sat on television and lied and when confronted with it they were never owned up to it there's a spirit working in the sons of disobedience today and it's allied spirit and you know who the father of law and you can kind of tell them with one simple test that will never own up to it they'll never met never say they're sorry never apologize why is that it's not within me to do that but it's within us if you catch me in a lie I'm just gonna acknowledge it I'm gonna confess I'm gonna say I'm sorry here's the point folks if there's ever been a time when the church cannot cave in and compromise you give the devil an inch right now you don't take a mile we are caving in on sexual issues on marriage issues and somehow to capitulate that we can appease the world you don't want to peace the world you want to please God you wouldn't be right with God right now more now than ever if there's ever a time now is the time and I believe these could be unprecedented days for the church if it was simply stamford you know Michael Heizer in this book uses a term that I ever I've never used for it before because to me bottom-line I want to be found faithful that's the most important issue to me you know that I finished the life my life well and that I'd be found faithful but he used a little different word he said what God is looking for is people who be loyal what's that really the same term but a little bit or different definition into it to me that that he has seen spirits who were disloyal to who fell away who rebelled and and a rebellion is like the sin of divination not a good thing and we are supposed to be people under God the authority and so what he's looking for today is our loyalty I like that to be faithful let me pray for you father I pray as we open this up it may bring some fear to some people and they could start looking for germs and viruses and demons everywhere and what we need to look for is you and I just pray it as we lift our eyes towards heaven set our mind on the things above commit herself to live a righteous life all the protection we need is farming Christ and we just thank you for that and we pray for wisdom as we soar through scripture find the foundation for the world that we're living in so
