Wow oh my goodness this is not a real place is it it's awful I can't be a real place I don't know if we're allowed to sing this one well I don't even know how to say it you do not want to walk down the street in a short dress hey guys I'm Eric and I'm grace we're the wandering Ravens we're a couple of digital nomads who have been wandering around the world for over three years and we make videos on this YouTube channel about travel and culture if either of those topics interests you make sure you subscribe to our channel and hit the little bell icon so that you can get notified every time we release a new video today we are going to be introducing you to 32 UK towns with hilarious names now there's a catch we don't actually know the towns we're about to introduce you to over the last couple of videos we've been doing about UK town and City pronunciations you can watch one of them here people have been dropping comments and sharing this article with us that contains a lot of wacky UK town names we did share this link with our patrons on our private Facebook group if you want to get in on that action do go down to the description and join our patreon community our patrons let us know that this article is funny and it's worth doing a video about so we are taking their word for it and without further ado let's get into it here are 32 UK towns with hilarious names World's End Oh like that very ominous very dangerous sounding isn't it in parts of the Caribbean that they have world's at World's End at World's End this also makes me think of the Edgar Wright movie the World's End I don't know if this has any connection to that is it a British movie yes I've seen it okay but hold it all right but this is not a town this the list Prabhas does town names and the seasons of room unless the name of the town itself is about whole room we do have this saying in the states in the middle of Buffalo er yeah we do I wonder if that comes from you guys's but my question here would be is this a literal or is this more of a you know it used to mean something maybe it's Butte it hilt it just dropped it II yeah beautiful road but still though they knew what they were doing I feel like they need to rename this place field field sounds like a great place what do you got in that field oh you know just field out back looks out the window and there's bunch over no we're not going there although you know being the UK maybe this just means it's a field of female dogs yeah that's true because in the UK you guys call female dogs whereas in the States we don't we we do that yeah not unless you're an actual dog breeder everyone else just calls them female dogs and we have field and then you have our male dogs called just dog iers well yeah if they're if they have puppies it's the sire I think did you come aside yeah the side so a field and sire field I'm scrolling it down backs photo three two one oh my feelin's tizzy ho this makes me think of the sailors on the ship when there looking for land and I'm like let ho another thing that Salus would definitely say when they pulled into port to do the sailors are thirsty bunch back in the day that's true maybe they still are today and yeah again this is probably going way back into old in English we're too deep meant something else three two what tun wow you know you're in the bathroom a long time man how are you doing that although if this was a UK town like our pronunciation videos it's probably not actually said that way we'd have to guess how this is said hi terton maybe Edgerton I'm gonna say ii t is a glottal t so you know shake shake shake tun shake your tongue shake your own what happened to the last feet i made that igloo to shut your tongue we're learning how to do global t's it's not working out very well we don't have global t's in the States so it's a new thing for us why is this place called ton also this doesn't really look like a city sign post this looks more like something you'd stick on your lawn someone's name yeah this honestly looks kinda like a tombstone please tell me this is not somebody is great even their name was ton of time how did he die Wow oh my goodness this is not a real place is it awful I can't be a real place I don't I don't want you get to say this one I mean I guess I have two whole lane which again is not a town it's not a town what is this this article has lied to us because it said tad names well we've come up with roads and lanes and lanes and then possibly a fellow who died whose name was Orton and this person that's awful whoever this person is had the sign posted like right outside of their home I think that that's this looks more like it's an X she cheated on him and out of spite he went and erected this right outside of her house oh my goodness that's really cringey is this really some UK I'm guessing the history behind this either used to have a different meaning back in the day or this is actually where the brothels in this town were because even in the states there's some street names and stuff with really on-the-nose names about you know you can tell that's where the red-light district was yeah so this is one across from the whole Lane we have three Cox Lane interesting so I'm guessing this was really just about chickens yeah so this one's not too bad not as bad as the last one not that last one's pretty unforgivable but this one I'm like alright I can see this makes sense it's just like three roosters Lane yeah something like that so bad sounds like a nice Street where you could raise your family and yeah you know you got birds to wake you up every morning right it's all welcome to little snoring please drive carefully it sounds like Sleepy Hollow do you remember Sleepy Hollow yeah a little Sleepy Hollow right down the road from little snoring that's Sleepy Hollow is the Headless Horseman that was a horrifying I blocked that from there it is now it's back this reminds me of a couple of towns in Oregon which is just south of where we're from in Washington that had the names of dull and boring so yeah dull boring little snoring do you do oh my I don't know if we're allowed to sing this one well I don't even know how to say it oh that's right cuz British people say it we don't actually use this word in the states it doesn't mean anything it's a non word see Americans we have this thing where would we imitate a British person and we're saying it we say it with a soft ah like an oo yeah because that's wrong yeah British people say it with that strong ah which sounds very America because a lot of British words have that soft aw I think they have been to photo they have someone bending in the background bottom alright it's Pratt a bad word I don't know what Pratt would insinuate I immediately envisioned crisp whoo so in the States we have a word which I'm assuming you guys also use in the UK which is prattle so it's just like this pract but with an element beyond the end it just means to go on and on and on prattler so maybe this brats bottom there mocking the guy you know what's he on about no no perhaps bottom bottom oh no this is kind of swimming similar to these whole way this one's nicer though lady holy yeah you know at least it's not quite objectifying as the last one was that's true lady whole way okay so what I'm wondering is why is the word whole attached to a lot of these cuz like okay so it sounds really obscene you know lady whole lame but there have been several others that had the word hold and so I'm wondering if there's a reason why if there's a lot of British towns that have the word hole in it and if so why does it mean something yeah about drinking hole yeah whereas forum lady hole great snoring this is an ear the little snoring elicit little snoring I think was little snoring so we got a little snoring and great snoring you do not want to be married to a great snoring you are not a great snoring good yeah you are a little sorry the truth hurts sometimes it does hurt [Music] where does your ex-wife flip or she lives up don't woman Lane ha ha ha ha good one he's like no she acts I'm gonna make a guess about etymology again I'm thinking that dumb woman's Lane comes from way back in a day whenever this village named this street there was probably a mute woman who lived on this street and they just called a dumb woman's Lane because you know dumb didn't always mean in the head it would used to mean yeah because you couldn't speak yeah or communicate the never label is done so she was probably you know a mute woman that lived on this road it's always called it dumb woman's Lane and no no it's just called that for good health at pinis stone initially I thought it was penny stone but it yeah I actually I read it as penny stone as well yeah so I would pronounce as as penny stone which is probably what it's called but you can't help us see the word penis in there as well I want to see the shape of this stone because it's shaped like a penny what do you think get your mind out of the gutter woman oh wow upper dicker where do you live I live in Upper dicker where do you live I live in lower Decker what we're Decker anyways is a there's an upper and a lower crackpot this is not the place you want to live no so in the state's crackpot just means like he's a crazy person right yeah I think so eccentric yes kind of a crackpot I like how there's one yeah I know it means one kilometer but I'll take that to mean population one the only your village called and they're looking for their fool what do you think the etymology is of this village or town they probably you know this in this region there were a bunch of feuding Lords and they were fighting over this precious pot and then one of the Lords captured it in battle then there's like a ha and he hoisted the pots above his head and then he dropped it in a cracked and from henceforth the name of that village was crackpot little folk folk legend you guys can use that if you want if this town means this history feel free to steal mine cock-shaped close right right so I'm assuming this is where they used to shoot roosters for fun yeah as a sport they would have them stand up there and shoot at them because people back then were me three two what we've been doing too many British town name videos because now whenever I see them I don't read it like an American would like an American were just reading crap stone but I saw it and I was muted like crap stone crops and it's probably pronounced crap soon as it said craftsman for all of those lovely folks who live in crops in sin as crops dinner crop stone rusty view where do you live I live in busty view of such a lucky man so what a busty mean busty what do you think what's the etymology I'm gonna assume that this was referring to men not women back in the day you know how men would always have buster all of those Oh like the statue yeah so maybe there was a professional but maker he had a huge piece of property that was full of these beautiful bus men and so after that they were like what a cool town no I know but see the rest of you hands lean this is a lot worse in the UK than it is in the States mm-hmm so the state's fanny is just a name not only is it just a name it's also a buck so Fanny in the UK means something else something else would you ever come across somebody named fanny in the UK because the name fanny in the US is rare but occasionally you will meet like an old woman named Fanny I'm my name is fanny it's short for Blake for ancestry something would you ever meet someone in the UK called Fanny I'm guessing not Fanny hands lame if you do not want to walk down the street in a short dress a gooey usually they did not spell spell ugly no I would assume it's probably prawns googly or something what do you think is this the Scottish Welsh or Northern Irish all I'm gonna say it's probably English what are the people who live in this town look like that it's an OB Bunch oh wow so if you have an upper dick dick hurt what did he stop for dicker upper Decker man you can match it with an upper thong this is another one of those fun words where it does mean different things in the UK and the states cuz in the States a thong can also just be like your flip-flop right yeah yeah although that is becoming less common I don't think that people want Arents something else yes our parents would say I grab your songs let's go to the beach go to the beach no the knob yet again another fun one where this means different things in the state sweet this is not a euphemism yeah in the States have you told someone knob was a euphemism they probably think you were talking about boobs you mean knobs yeah mmm the knob okay so it's this actually euphemism then in the UK because I've seen it you know one of our other videos where they talk about oh I heard somebody in the comments the other day said they told someone to keep their pecker up like as a like cheering them on so I think it was more a man something else well pecker is not I don't think that's a euphemism for penis mistakes either oh yeah we don't in the States pecker is baby your nose I've never heard pecker uses as a euphemism for penis until we were in the UK I don't even know anymore but yeah all that to say the knob wouldn't mean anything to an American they wouldn't think that that was hilarious yeah this makes me think of it like a hill the grassy knob to what bar mom's hill wow that's bunks me yeah this is not a euphemism for me well in the state's bonks is just bunk for someone on the head if he's if someone's bonkers that means you're crazy yeah good one good one three two what wait wait we already did shirts I've been here before all right and it was a pretty smelly place it was a very stinky place back side lane there to your canyons are a little bit obsessed with you nether regions okay all right this is another one of those ones where I don't get the euphemism do you get the euphemism no I don't and I'm a little bit afraid to ask what I mean is in situations like this the wise thing to do is turn to urban dictionary okay that was a lot works that I was exactly what the person I was expecting to and I regret saying such carelessness at the beginning you like some nasty places ranked some of these streets are really due for a renaming renaming slag layer is this like slagging people off because if so this is probably the best one we've got so far slag layer but even that we might have a euphemism back to urban dictionary Wow a lot of these place names are very sexist they're very targeted at women like I said earlier though I'll bet a lot of these have to do with their being poor houses or different things like that is that the case I'm saying a whorehouse because back in the day that's what it would have been called yeah obviously I'm a modern gentleman and I call them prostitutes or brothels brothels ya know and I feel like I've heard of Bella yeah on one of our British isms video we heard that I think it was either in the video or in the comments people said that Bell and means an idiot oh but there must be a euphemism there to urban dictionary Bell and Oh Tim of the penis of course it is when I first heard that Bell end was an insult I just thought it meant to do with like how an actual Bell that rings and it meant you just clang around inside your head or number 29 now I think that's 27 derogatory names about women and two that have to do with men next old sobs buried just Sodbury so right Sodbury old Sudbury I don't get this one I don't either shall we look it up yeah we're learning a lot today okay so there were a lot that we knew but then there's also was it like burry what does sod buried just sod maybe so Oh short for sodomy or an idiot a fool someone is lying so just idiot again old it it oh did it okay well I think they were stretching this one a little bit far just because it's not even sod it's Sodbury so yeah you hitting a little desperate bored panda slimy furred sluggy furred I'm assuming this has to do with the slag that we mentioned before yes a woman of questionable character Thanks in Ford it would probably be referring to a river yeah a Ford river so this is the place where all the prostitutes across the river something that three two what we already had this one yes they don't we have done I feel like we did okay I'm gonna say that this board panda had two that were repeats the double woman's lane and the ton so they only had 30 for real lied to us you lied to us where are my other two oh if you have two more to make this in even 32 as we were promised 37 right no 32 over done oh man I forgot we were promised 32 by the article but it's only gave us 30 because it repeated two of them twice so if you have two more hilarious you British town names to this list please drop them in the comments below and if we actually did get any of the entomology behind these names correct do let us know that as well I for one think my crackpot story was spot-on oh no this was a blast a lot of fun thank you to the commentaries who recommended this article we had no idea that there were town names like this in the UK wild this was a wild ride if any of you guys watching live in any of these towns that are mentioned and know a little bit about history
