during the 80s we were introduced to numerous tv shows and movies that kept us entertained for many many hours many of these movies and shows included iconic vehicles and some were even centered around these vehicles ranging from normal day vehicles to fully armored or high tech or even ones with ai if you ever wondered what some of these vehicles were based on or what happened to them after the show ended we have some answers for you who does not remember the bright orange dodge charger racing for the countryside and taking many jump on its way although the exact number of general leads used varies from source to source according to actor ben jones as well as builders involved with the show a total of 256 general leads were used during filming many of which not surviving the process it is said that 17 of them actually have survived but in various different states one of the screen used cars is known to be on display in the volvo auto museum in illinois [Music] the iconic film used 13 different cars to depict the bluesmobile all of which were former police cars purchased from the california highway patrol at the time of the film's release it has set a world record for the most cars destroyed in one film and it held this distinction until 1998. some say all are scrapped some say one cell exists but we do know that replicas exist it's the one at the volvo autumn museum the one remaining screen used 106 miles to chicago we got a full tank of gas half a pack of cigarettes it's dark and we're wearing sunglasses [Music] although not every bsg fan remembers his show fondly one must remember the flying motorcycles for this show only two are actually ever made a dummy half turbo cycle with fixed wing was under construction and to be suspended from a helicopter for a realistic takeoff but was never completed when the filming started instead one of the operation motorcycles was cut in half for these scenes the remaining bike has been seen on an auction in 2015 but was never sold i can't afford to let him get too good a look at these machines i'm gonna have to risk showing him a little more than i hoped to ready [Music] although due to his length actor tom selleck barely fit in the car the show creators use as many as five ferraris for each season while producing magnum pi most of the screen news ferrari models have been sold at auction after the show one of them was last seen in 2019 at the petersen automotive museum for tc's island hopper three different helicopters were used during the show the first and only one equipped with emergency inflatable floats on its kids pressed in 1980 during filming third helicopter crash in 1988 one week after the show was cancelled the one remaining is owned by air 2 based out of timonium maryland and it travels around the country for air 2 doing power line work a replica of the helicopter is used to tour to discover the hidden gems of hawaii [Music] the lotus esprit from the spy who love me became so popular the producers brought back a lotus for this movie for the movie two actual cars were used the white one seen in the movie is an original prototype and was sold off after filming the copper-colored one an early production model was retained by lotus until july 1998 and was displayed in 2008 at the goodwood festival [Music] what is [Music] it's a it called the nuttiest car movie ever made this movie portrayed a modified 1973 porsche 917 cannon spider approximately three cars were used in the production all created for malls of a porsche 917 owned by a dealership located in california it is unknown if any of the cars survive filming and where they might be now it was ridiculous the way you came barreling down on that guy on the road driving like a maniac what better card to race for the desert than a v8 interceptor three australian exclusive cars were bought for the movie two ex-victorian police fought falcon v8 sedans and one 973 ford falcon xb gt coupe the two sedans became max's yellow interceptor and the gt coupe would become the pursuit special all three of these were sold off after the first movie but the gt was reacquired for the second one the pursuit special eventually ended up at the cars of the stars modern museum and when the museum closed they sold the car to the miami auto museum in florida in 2011. they still own the car but is currently in a really really poor condition you must be either very very brave or very very crazy to take a single seated open cockpit or the rotating ultra-light aircraft into battle two of these gyrocopters were made for the movie one mock-up for close shots and one fully functional the mock-up was destroyed in one of the scenes and the fully functional one was sold off at auction after the movie but eventually got acquired by official mad max museum in 2015 and was restored to former glory reflexes that's what you got me i got brains well i'm not the kind to kiss and tell but i've been seen with fire up the truck you see called sieve is driving is a 1980 gmc 4x4 several different years makes and models were used during the show's initial run and as a result there are some inconsistencies between the episodes all of the cars have been sold off at auctions and the whereabouts are unknown but a number of replicas exist out there i've been on fire with sally field gone fast with a girl named bo [Music] probably a badger reconnaissance class unfortunately no real versions of this amazing fighter jet has ever existed for the movie a fully sized mock-up was fabricated out of a radio tower skinned with plywood and foam and powered by a four-cylinder volkswagen engine so it could tax you on the runway if the mock-up still exists and where it is is unknown the mission steel firefox can you fly that plane who remembers this white red and black airplane dub the goose the screen used plane was released from robert hall who flew as the pilot of the plane in some segments unfortunately on february 5th 2005 the plane suffered a catastrophic accident the remains of the plane were sold to samuel pida minkow in pittsford new york on 28th of february 2005 who is currently trying to restore it [Music] when thinking back about vehicles from the tv in the 80s for most people kit is one of the first that comes to mind for the pilots three 1982 pontiac firebird transitions were required one being used as a stunt car which got destroyed during filming the first year the hero car got converted to kit's evil twin car in season 3 before being converted to as what is known as a right hand blind drive car before ending up in the cruise automated museum for a while and eventually being sold off to a private owner the third car known as the backup hero car is currently owned by the knight rider historians and can be seen on a regular base on their youtube channel but kid was not the only memorable vehicle in the show the other being the flag mobile units a semi-trailer truck owned by the foundation for law and governments functioning as a mobile garage and headquarters for seven miles three different trucks were used for the mobile units some with a cabin with a sleeper compartment some without the location of the first semi used is currently unknown and the season 3 and 4 screen used is also owned by the knight rider historians and is being restored to its former glory as we speak i am the voice of knight industry 2000's microprocessor k-i-t-t for easy reference a kit if you prefer [Music] as a kid i was truly fascinated with helicopters and none more so than arrow than blue thunder for the blue thunder movie two gazelle helicopters were modified with bolt-on parts and a bolt-on canopy patterned after the ha-64 apache as well as a static display model was built one of the two gazelles was dismantled and sold for parts the other one and the display model were both scrapped but before being scrapped one of the two blue thunders had a small cameo in the pilot episode of macgyver the bulldog cockpit of the original helicopter used to be visible on the backlot tour of mgm studios in florida however it has not been present in the boneyard since at least 2005. [Music] the supernatural car identified in the movie as a 1958 plymouth fury was actually two older plymouth models the belvedere and the savoy for the movie 24 of these cars were purchased in various states of disrepair to build a total of 17 copies of christine the best known surviving vehicle was rescued from a junkyard and restored by collector bill gibson and another one was sold off on auction in 2020. stop the car stop the car quick go back go back go back i want to look at her will you go back please just go back all right [Music] the red coyote x was built from custom molds based on the mclaren m6 gt using a manta montage as a base actor brian keith due to his length always had trouble getting into the car so for season 2 and 3 a new car was built based on the delorean dmc-12 the season 1 hero car ended up in private ownership while the stunt car got reconfigured to be reused in the knight rider 2000 television pilot and then again to be reconfigured into jrbit showcar test mobile in 2012 the sound car was purchased by a private owner who's converting it back into coyote x [Music] in 1972 a crack commando unit was sent to prison by a military court for a crime they didn't commit ea's iconic black metallic gray van with its characteristic red stripe black and red turbine mag wheels and rooftop spoiler were actually a total of six gmz vans not counting the stunt car doubles not much can be found about the fader of all of these besides that one of them was safe from a car park and reserved by cars of the stars motor museum and then in 2005 a screen used car was seen at j arbuck's hollywood cars museum but ba was not the only team member with an iconic ride faceman drives a custom white 1984 chevrolet covete with red interior and a red stripe the red stripe was added to match ba's van after the show the vet was sold and resold a number of times of which the last one on ebay in 2011. are you crazy nobody drive my van but me get out of here don't touch my van suck up if you do i'll come back and feed your socks [Music] maybe bending the rules a bit of not including spaceships in this video but centauri star car is foremost a car although the last starfighter was not the movie to make a car which the star car is based on famous like the back to the future time machine the star car is also based on the iconic delorean dmc-12 little effects of what happened after the movie are known about this car but we do know it's currently read and being restored by science fiction archives shifting into star drive at columbus zeta hold tight the actor mobile or better known as actor 1 is a 1959 cadillac millimeter future duplex ambulance sometimes mistaken for being a hearse due to its black and gray paint but these were the actual colors of the car when it got acquired for the movie car was not very reliable and broke down twice during shooting after sitting in a backlot for a long time in 1988 actor 1 got sold off to a car collector to promote the ghostbusters the video game actor 1 got reacquired and was fully restored in 2009 and is currently still owned by sony note that unlike to some believe the original actor 1 did not get converted to the actor 1a for the second ghostbusters movie but remains in its original state until today we got one [Music] often the question is asked which is the coolest helicopter of the 80s and a lot of people will answer blue thunder but did blue thunder have missiles include the flying speeds of mach 1 for airwolf two bell helicopters we used and cosmetically modified one flight capable airwolf and one non-flying mock-up the latter after the show ended was broken up for spare parts the flying helicopter was eventually sold after the show ended and became an ambulance helicopter in germany where it unfortunately crashed in a thunderstorm and was destroyed on june 6th 1992 the best known replica of airwolf was built in 2007 for the short-lived helicopter headquarters museum this replica is now privately owned and sitting on top of a gigantic villa in beverly hills before being privately owned this airwolf was last publicly visible in the tennessee museum of aviation [Music] another famous helicopter of the 80s is the pink sikorsky with a big mouth screaming mimi mimi a sikorsky h-34t choctaw also known as the sikorsky s58t still lives today although no longer pink sia's owned by summit helicopter since 2006 is alive and well and finding wildfires and serving the utility industry [Music] when you say iconic 80s ferrari many people will call out loud miami vice although technically during the first two seasons it was not a real ferrari but a replica 1972 ferrari based on the chassis of a chevrolet corvette c3 after a lawsuit filed by carmaker ferrari ferrari donated two real cars with a strict rule that no air poles were to be used if you want to know what happened to the replicas i can highly recommend watching retro blessings dragon company for the real cars both were auctioned off after the show ended the hero car is currently owned by adams classic and collector cars [Music] what is a desk bound cop to do when he wants to actively fight crime well he can become a test pilot for a prototype combat motorcycle for the show's trailer the actual show and the sun bikes for the show a multitude of different honda motorcycles were used although this video is not about toys it is noteworthy that as a 1992 indian exclusive street hog joined the ranks of gi joe as for the real motorbikes one of the hawks ended up on ebay and was sold for a measly twelve thousand dollars another one of the original street hog bikes got purchased by stuntman bruhman and the last known public appearance of a screen used street hawk was in the now closed cars of the stars museum this is jesse mock an ex-motorcycle cop injured in the line of duty now a police troubleshooter [Music] if they had stuck with the early draws of the script this part of the video would have been about a refrigerator luckily that is not the case so we can talk about the stainless steel chariot that is called the delorean the delorean was deliberately selected for its general appearance and gulwing doors in order to make it plausible that people in 1955 would presume it to be an alien spacecraft for the first movie a total of three delorean time machines were built but the a car or hero car is the only one that remains in one piece today after filming the third movie the car was placed on display at universal studios hollywood where over time it fell into disrepair the car was restored in 2012 and went on permanent display at the peterson automotive museum in los angeles in 2016. are you telling me you built a time machine out of a delorean [Music] this show named after iconic car driven by the main character ray features one of the classics a 1965 corvette stingray unfortunately very little about this tv car can be found online but it is said that at least two were used and the user on the corvette forum claims to actually own one of the two [Music] the porkchop express as a truck in this movie is named got named as such as its pig field as it zooms across the golden gate bridge in those opening shots after the movie the truck eventually ended up under the ownership of a man called wilfred o'brien who operated and drove the truck quite regularly until the truck was last seen moving from keller france bound for england in 2020 jack burton in the porkchop express and i'm talking to whoever is listening out there andy you son of a i thought she was down in texas no that was last week you like that huh ascension murderous truck is by itself already a scary fault it becomes even scarier when the truck is carrying a huge green goblin head although the happy toys truck itself is presumably destroyed after filming the green goblin head still exists today a man named tim sharkey purchased a head in 1987 after seeing an ad had been placed in the local paper offering to sell the green goblin head from the movie the man he bought the head from said he saw what looked like the truck being taken to the scrapyard it took him a while but he managed to restore the head to its full glory and then can be found touring the country and the green goblin hat even has its own facebook holy god look at that thing i get it the rave tells the story of an arizona teen who mysteriously returns from the dead as a supernatural street racer driving an invulnerable supercar the turbo interceptor is a concept car turned prototype for real the dodge m4s was built by dodge in 1981 as a technology demonstrator vehicle six copies were made for use in the film two stunt cars made from mods of the original car and four non-drivable dummies that were destroyed during filming the real dutch turbo interceptor was used in close-ups and after being found in pieces in 2010 some laughing soul has taken the time to restore the rave to its former glory the original concept car was last seen at the walter p chrysler museum until it closed in 2016. there's a kid out there using this car to kill people not that it's such a big deal since it seems to be your gang he's got it in for society is breeding a new kind of criminal [Music] it's also breeding a new kind of cup the vehicle of choice for lieutenant marion cobretti is this gorgeous car carrying the license plate awesome 50. for this movie a total of four of these cars were used one hero car and three sunken cars the latter all got destroyed but the hero car survived and is on the ownership of sylvester stallone who kept the car after the movie although stone lost the car for a while in 1994 when it got someone from his garage luckily by chance stallone stumbled across an online listing for his beloved car and he was able to reacquire it via settlement but details about this are further unknown the car until today is still in salon's possession this is where the law stops and i start after 18 years bond is finally reunited with british carmaker aston martin for the car with a few optional extras a total of 11 cars were used of which only three were actual drivable vehicles out of these three only one was an unmodified vantage the second was a stunned car and the third was dubbed a special effects car complete with missiles and rocket boosters aside from one other vehicle which was little more than a steerable chassis without an engine the rest were all fiberglass mockups this does not include the convertible valencia scene in the beginning of the movie as this one was on loan from aston martin's lagonda's chairman victor gauntlet the only operational car from the movie outfitted with all of q branch special gadgets could be seen in the bond emotion exhibit of the london film museum fortunately the exhibit closed permanently in 2021 just taking the aston martin up for a quick spin cube be careful w7 it's just had a new coat of paint [Music] built a juice expense to the studio a whopping 287 thousand dollars this vehicle is actually three vehicles in one a truck a helicopter and a sports car unfortunately little info can be found what was used in the transformation scene but the history of the truck with a helicopter cockpit is well known after the show the truck remained in the hands of its builder who started to convert it into a mobile home apart right through the motorhome conversion the owner had to give up on the project and sold the highwayman truck for hemmings.com for 125 thousand dollars a tattoo shop from sulphur springs texas acquired the truck and resorted back to its full glory albeit with different graphics they are known simply as highwaymen and this is their story [Music] this is surely one of the most iconic of the many renditions of the batmobile we have seen over the many years only to be rivaled by the 1960s batmobile this batmobile was built on the chassis of a chevy impala and incorporated the engine of an impala taillights of a ferrari fuel caps of a london bus and jet engine parts from a harrier jump jet the sliding cockpit was also inspired by that of a harrier an undirected terribly auckland snow added the headlights of a honda civic to the vehicle after noticing them on his wife's car a second car made for the movie was based on an oldsmobile catalyst convertible one of these bad mobiles can be found at the petersen auto museum in california and the second batmobile is owned by batman producer john peters it is currently kept in the garage of his malibu home [Music] what better movie to end this video with than the sequel to the movie responsible for almost every delorean owner to be asked where is your flux capacitor out of seven cars during the course of the three films only four remain while the amb cars were brought out of story for the second and third movies which were filmed back to back universal ended up building another delorean time machine for part 2 a fiberglass mock-up used in the flying car scenes this fiberglass mockup was destroyed after filming the b car used for the driving scenes was destroyed during filming of the third movie and the c car from the first movie used for filming interior scenes still remains in universal's possession though not as an entire car part of the c-car when combined with a delorean converted for the off-road scenes to be displayed at universal studios in japan roads where we're going we don't need roads which one of these or any i might have missed in your eyes is the most iconic vehicle of the 80s and which one is your favorite beer de maya is the most unique vehicle of them all my favorite helicopter of the 80s or the one with the ai we all know and love please let me know in the comments below which one your choices are fun fact for those who have fond memories of the movie the lost starfighter most likely remember not only the gun star but centauri starker as well [Music] did you know that like the back to the future time machine this car was based on the delorean dmc-12 but this is not the only similarity between the two they have also shared the same movie set centauri star car can be seen parked on 2nd street in the second back to the future movie now you know and knowing is half the battle columbus zeta all tight hey guys i hope you enjoyed all of these little tidbits and i really hope that
