$30 Ebay Oris // Score or Scam?!?

[Music] hey everybody how's it going uh just real quick before we get into the video proper i just want to let you know that in this video i get well and truly duped by the watch i am about to unbox for you so just a heads up i get kind of excited and after reviewing the footage i have realized my folly so i'll just let it play out feel free to yell at your computer screen while i say silly things and then i will address what's up at the very end thanks a bunch howdy everyone and welcome back to another exciting adventure here on better watch out it is no secret that i am a fan of these indian franken watches this is my hmt janada that i just love to bits i think it's just a super unique way to get a cool looking watch and if you don't know these watches in my experience they actually tend to be legitimate however they are like parts from several different non-functioning watches that have been kind of mashed together and more often than not they have a repainted dial too many purists that is a deal breaker to me i just consider it um kind of like buying a modded watch like you know what you're getting you know it's not original and all that stuff and they're super easy to repair so um i forget if i mentioned it in a previous video but this one broke on me and i was able to just buy a new movement for it for like five dollars fix it up and it's working like a charm so given that i have had good experiences with this watch and then i also got a seiko that i turned into something else i thought it would be a good idea to get another one why not so i did just that it's in here oh first wrist check got the ever trusty vostok amphibia with the vintage dial my ultimate winter watch i love it all right let's crack this thing open it just came in today and i saw this and you get these on ebay you know they're 15 bucks to 30 bucks depending um i think this one was about 30 bucks but i'm not gonna not gonna say it i have a terrible track record for remembering what i paid for things and then having to correct it in the video description so check down there if you're curious i'll link to just like i don't know something let's hack away and try not to stab myself again i always talk about how interesting the packaging can be but especially with these i've had them come like wrapped in napkins and like whatever you know which i don't care as long as the watch is safe that's fine but it's just like can be odd sometimes and here we have triple bubble wrap for this one and i think this may slide out quadruple bubble wrap whoa we're going for gold here folks oh can you see it i think i love it already oh holy cow that's cooler than i thought it would be oh neat check this thing out dang i got tape on my finger i got tape everywhere oh this is exciting new watch day this is pretty rad looking take a look at that oris on the case back so this watch says that it's an aorus how cool is that and there's dust in the case so that's interesting those don't look too different do they oh they are different phew so they're not i was worried they might be identical like someone had just slapped an aorus dial and movement into an old hmt case but that does not look to be what has happened here let's give it a quick wind and we're ticking away i love it so obviously you can clearly see why i picked this thing up i got it for very cheap i don't want to take the case back off i'm going to see how well well i'm going to need to i got to take that dust out of there maybe i'll do that in another video you know what we're doing it now forget about it we'll do it live so this appears to be a press on case back but i do not see a way to lift it off so i'm just gonna hack at it with a knife ow classic ow yes okay cool and let's take a look in there hmm and then just for total self clarity this is an hmt movement and this is an horse movement or i think an fth movement yeah there goes says swiss 17 joules this does appear to be legitimate it comes with a um a movement holder that is unique don't often get that i've had many rattly franken watches this i think is probably one of the better franken watches that i've purchased so in true better watch out fashion we will immediately start tearing it apart that pops right out let's take a look always do an inspection of these when they first come in just to see what we're dealing with and to be honest this is looking really nice so far awesome and now take a look get a closer look at the dial you can see it's textured metallic and a man i love orange orange is my favorite color i really am a sucker so i'm gonna take my little air blower here and get rid of that speck of dust that was in there what is going on and just do a little pop around there just get anything else that might be hiding this guy back in one of the main things i love about these little watches is that they're just so cheap that i don't have to stress about whether or not i'm about to break anything which i do not believe that i am but i do break stuff a lot of the time all right now we just got to pop this case back back on i just use a case back presser to do this or um you know a crystal press to do this um and yeah this this always goes pretty smoothly for me never have uh major issues with it and did it work sweet so let's test this out i suppose the next step for this thing is to regulate it which is something let me know if you want me to show you all how to regulate watches on your own um it's a pretty common thing to do so i don't know if that's a terribly necessary but let me know all right hello it's me from the future so you just saw me gushing over this oris well it's a day later and i've actually done a little bit of research and i am not convinced whatsoever that this is any kind of genuine anything um the case i think it's a new case that has been made to look like a vintage auris case the back is laser etched um here let me pop it off and show you all right the back here this is a laser etched logo and you can see on the underside here how it's even warped the metal a little bit so the fact that the case back is laser etched and you know clearly is newish leads me to believe that that's why the entire case is so shiny because it is new and just made to look old what we have in here so i think this could be actually a fake vintage movement it's uh something called an fhf which is like a french company they made lots of vintage movements basically this is kind of a go-to for vintage watch counter fitters on ebay i do not know if aorus ever used a movement like this i haven't been able to find anything but i don't see the proper markings for this particular movement so it leads me to believe it's actually a chinese copy of an fhf so that means that this is not just a franken where it's cobbled together this thing is entirely a fantasy so i'm really not sure how to feel about it i i still like the watch i think it i timed it it's very accurate i think it gains about five seconds a day very respectable um it looks neat but it says ores on it you know from what i've learned from what y'all have helped me figure out um so long as the dial is reflective of the movement it's okay i i don't think that's the case here so i i still think i'm gonna wear it i still like the look and it functions fine but i think that this is not a franken so much as it is a fantasy watch i think this is the way that i will kind of reconcile the fakeness of it with my desire to wear it is i will consider it a um a fantasy piece because i still like it you know i want to keep it and i want to wear it but it is not an oris as far as i can tell um if anyone sees anything about this watch that is original to auras let me know in the comments down below but not terribly optimistic i think i just got myself just a shiny toy with a lie on the dial should have known and yeah you just watched me get burned in real time but oh well so from now on i will refer to this as my aorus fantasy watch so that's what it is lesson learned and i still like orange we're good all right we will now transport back to happier times yesterday before i did my due diligence with my research i just love it for what it is and love me a good frank and watch all right everybody that's gonna do it for me for today thank you very much for watching really
