Apple watch seduces me who became a Samsung fanatic. Should I return to iPhone? Sadㅠ LOLOLOLOL Hello, it’s ITSub! Since Apple had a profitable time with iPhone SE, they also loaded only essential functions on Apple Watch to get more bang for our buck and released it under the name... Apple Watch SE So I’d like to unbox it today. Since I’ve always talked about iPhone SE it seems a bit awkward to say Apple Watch SE Is it followed by iPad SE... and also iMac SE… Would those be released too? The price of the newly released Apple Watch SE was quite reasonable. Based on the 40mm one it starts at the price of 359,000 won but depending on which bands we choose the price gets slightly different. However, thinking from a different angle, it isn’t that affordable but considering the prices of the previous Apple Watch series this is released at quite a good price. [1. UNBOXING] It’s almost been a year to unbox the Apple Watch. This time, they even released the SE version so I made a reservation for both products and Apple Watch SE arrived the earliest. I purchased them from the Apple Store online but this is an Apple box we often see. One thing particular is that Apple has been very obsessive about details and they also take much care on the package but this tape here doesn’t look like that of Apple since it came unevenly attached to the box. If this was from a different manufacturer I can understand but I never saw this thing happening from Apple before. Open… and inside… So far, I’ve only bought stainless steel Apple Watch but this time I got an aluminum one even in a Nike edition. Those who usually get the Apple Watch in aluminum mostly gets the Nike version if they’re interested in electronics. The packaging is… since it’s a Nike edition it’s in a black compartment. and also here… When we pull this thing here like this the box gets open. There are two boxes inside. One is the band, the other, the Apple Watch. The box seems to become slightly thinner. First, let’s check out the Apple Watch. When we open it… Here is the watch itself and over here… Nothing special here Also a charging cable is included. Whoa! The cable is originally on the left and the adapter on the right but as Apple has announced at the keynote the power adapter has been removed in terms of the protection of the environment and cost reduction. That’s because… both the titanium one and the Hermes edition, however, still include the power adapter. And… the Nike edition band… This is also interesting. Wow~ Apple really entertains us from the moment… we open the box. Like this. Apple Watch Nike edition band is here. Sports bands or the basic silicone bands come with both medium and large, two bands. In my case, the medium fits better on me Medium… and... the one on the above with a buckle… Wow, this is also to save the environment… which is made of paper Once we take it out there’s the new Apple Watch inside. [2. DESIGN] Honestly, before I got to use the Apple Watch this rectangular design seemed unattractive but once I got to use other smartwatches... instead of their round bezels the rectangular Apple Watch looked more special. You know I’ve been using Galaxy Watch Active 2 for quite a long time. This one also has a round bezel and looks clean, which is my most favorite among the Galaxy Watch series. The biggest difference is... when using a round display the design looks clean and neat but there’s a lot of wasting space in smartwatches. For example, when pulling down the quick panel, except for the center area, edges and… other parts… there’s much waste of space. However, Apple Watch has a rectangular display just like smartphones, so when we control it this way… even if it has a similar size of display there’s less waste of space on the Apple Watch screen so it was very convenient to control. So although they both have a lot of pros and cons, in terms of design, the round display looks better, whereas in terms of using smartwatch, the design of the rectangular Apple Watch also looks special aside from it being good or bad. Touching the Apple Watch after a long time, it’s really… wow… this smooth and seamless scrolling… Galaxy Watch seems a bit less smooth and fluid in performance which has the unique feeling of Tizen OS. But Apple Watch is… wow… really smooth and fluid. Smooth and natural at the same time We can see the AOD moving back and forth. This one right now is… Apple Watch Series 5. Nike edition asks us during the set up if we’re also gonna download ‘Nike Run Club.’ The design is based on the Apple Watch Series 4 so even if we compare it with the previous Apple Watch Series 5 they almost have the same design. The difference between the two is whether it's aluminum or stainless steel. Other than that, there isn’t a big difference. This series 5 is a cellular model so the crown looks slightly different but the buttons and microphone are almost located on the same place. However, if there’s any difference in the design… If I compare them after taking off the bands… the sensors on the back are slightly different. Since Apple Watch Series 5 have ECG whereas Apple Watch SE doesn’t, the design on the back looks slightly different. Other than that, the rest is the same. And the case of Apple Watch SE is only available in space gray space gray, silver, space gray, silver, gold aluminum, and no stainless steel. On the above… connect it this way. Also on the other side put it in like this. Looking at the Apple Watch after a while… Wow… Apple Watch indeed looks so cool. Galaxy Watch looks like a traditional watch with some smartwatch functions but the Apple Watch seems like a typical smartwatch… At some point [3. Difference with the Nike Edition] you can ask me why I got the Nike edition. When we try to get the aluminum Apple Watch, many people say, ‘Just choose the Nike edition.’ There are some features of the Nike edition. As you can see, it doesn’t have the basic Apple Watch face but instead has the Nike watch face. Nike compact and hybrid, analog, and digital. As you can see, this has a few additional watch faces only available for Nike edition. So, the Apple Watch Nike edition and Apple Watch aluminum have the same price but the Nike edition has additional Nike watch faces. But I’m thinking about it from a different angle that people also get aluminum in terms of cost-effectiveness so I don’t always recommend the Nike edition. Because the basic silicone band is also good but when we keep changing the bands afterward to use it I can recommend the Nike edition however, if that’s not the case, many people get their favorite band combination from the beginning and use it for a long time. Especially, Nike edition has these many holes, which provokes trypophobia, so some people don’t like it but getting a separate band… the cheapest one probably starts at 65,000 won so in terms of price it can put some strains on our budget. Whoa… but the Nike edition watch face is also… for those who work out often Whoa… this is also attractive! This time, Apple released the Apple Watch series 6 and the new Apple Watch SE. So many of you might wonder what to get between the two. [4. Common Features in Series 6] Basically, both of them features the compass, accelerometer, and the motion sensor. And the new feature, ’always-on altimeter,’ is also inside. Also features the same 1000nit LTPO display. Series 6, of course, got a slightly brighter AOD screen but let me talk about it later when reviewing the series 6. And this time… both in series 6 and SE, the force touch is removed. So previously, it detected the pressure applied... Look, right now… when long-pressing the screen we can adjust the watch face. [Force Touch function is removed from Watch OS 7] The previous Apple Watch 5 couldn’t change the watch face with long-pressing the screen but had to apply more pressure to do it which was the ‘force touch.’ However, in Series 6 and SE this force touch function is removed. Why did Apple remove that when it was really helpful? [5. Difference with Series 6] Then the most critical thing, the difference between Series 6 and SE [#1 Price] The biggest difference between the two is, first, the price. Based on the least expensive, 40mm Apple Watch, [SE: 359,000 won VS Series 6: 539,000 won] the price difference between the two is about 180,000 won. When talking about a 1,000,000 won smartphone, the price difference may not stand out. However, the amount of 180,000 won… is half the price of Apple Watch SE. Besides, if we also add the cellular option here we must pay extra 60,000 won for SE cellular and 120,000 won for series 6 cellular. [#2 AOD] And the 2nd difference is the AOD. There is AOD inside from Apple Watch series 5. It's the so-called ‘Always On Display’ in Samsung. Wearing the Apple Watch this way… and not using the screen, it’s still on display like this from Apple Watch series 5. As you can see, the SE’s display is turned off when it isn’t used. When the display is asleep and… I flip it like this and wakes it up, the AOD functions in this one. Even though the watch is turned off, the display is still on so that we can check the time on the screen. However, this function isn't available in the SE. [#3. ECG] The 3rd difference is the ECG. From Apple Watch series 5, ECG(electrocardiogram) function is newly added. ECG is simply… a way to check our heart’s rhythm and electrical activity in the early stage. Um… Using Apple Watch series 5, I barely used… the ECG function. And 4th, the newly added feature in the Apple Watch series 6, [#4 Measuring Blood Oxygen Level] which is measuring our blood oxygen level, isn’t available in the SE too. But… as I’m also gonna talk about this later when reviewing the series 6… if we don’t have any underlying disease they say this function is quite useless. [#5 UWB U1] And the 5th difference is the UWB(ultra-wideband) U1 chip. This technology is useful when using functions like Apple CarKey but to use those functions… we must also get a new car that has those features so I don’t really think this is such a killer function. However, it’ll be a different story if many convenient functions using the U1 chip come out within a few years. [#6 Processor] SE uses S5 SiP and series 6, S6 SiP, so there's more performance improvement in series 6. However, since I’ve been using the Apple Watch from series 4 it still works fine even now. So many users will… find a slight difference in energy-efficiency than its speed. [#7 5GHz Wi-fi] Even though there’s 5GHz Wi-fi… Actually, when using Apple Watch… this isn’t a big deal. So to show you the watch on my wrist Um… This is also quite responsive and good. Raise your wrist to wake up the display. It turns on almost exactly and immediately. So, in this aspect, the AOD doesn’t seem that necessary. Ah, if Apple Watch and Android are compatible, that’ll be really fantastic. [Lingering feelings of a current Galaxy user…] Bummer… It’s works quite fast without delay and the compass… looks interesting and works great like this. To put it another way, we can compare Apple Watch SE with series 5. Comparing it with series 5 SE doesn’t have AOD and ECG sensor. so series 5 is a more advanced model. Thus, SE is loaded with only essential features as a cost-efficient product. But recently the people around me asked me this question the most! What about getting Apple Watch series 3, which is relatively the most affordable? I would strongly not recommend it! If you got it like 1-2 years ago, it’s fine but it’s a too old model to get it now. Especially, the new watch faces aren’t available and there’s a big difference in the display size so in terms of design, it’s very different. For instance, just by this picture… you won’t be willing to get series 3 anymore. So, as I've got to wear the actual Apple Watch SE on my wrist it seems to be a very good entry model. I mean, using Galaxy Watch for a year and have returned to Apple Watch, Apple's iOS and Watch OS are very compatible and work great together whereas in Galaxy Watch, Android OS and Tizen OS seem to have some weird compatibility which I felt Samsung’s phone and watch are working quite independently in a way. I mean... lol The cons and pros of Android phones and iOS phones are very clear so I can’t tell which is better but if the upcoming iPhone 12 doesn’t have 120Hz/90Hz, I was about to keep using Galaxy… But suddenly I’ve thought that I can’t use the AirDrop function in my MacBook… the compatible features of iOS.. I wasn't able to use them since I’ve been using Galaxy. This one made me consider using the iPhone again after a while. Ah, should I have not bought this? To sum up, those who’re wondering between Apple Watch series 6 and SE, functions like ECG and measuring the blood oxygen level are… more useful to those who need those functions. If you ask yourself, ‘Do I really need them?’ and respond, ‘Not sure,’ then… you’re likely to not use those functions even if they’re available. Thus, if you’re wondering between the Apple Watch SE and series 6 I recommend that only focus on how useful the AOD function is to you. Anyway, that was for today. While you’re thinking about the new Apple Watch, you may choose series 6 as long as you’ve got to pick something but I, instead, think SE is a greater bang for the buck. So when considering it again, the aluminum model in series 6 has more options in color but the SE only comes in… just really basic colors so if this one was released in various colors such as red or blue I guess SE will be way more outselling the Apple Watch series 6. Another big difference is that since it’s aluminum instead of their constant stainless steel model, this is very light. I think the aluminum model will outsell the stainless steel model... from now on.
