if you want to make your grooves groovier then you need to know these three high hat [Music] patterns what's up everyone CJ here hope you're all doing well so most of the time playing eighth notes on the high hat is usually enough to get you through a song and making it sound good however you might come to a point where eighth note just isn't enough anymore and you have to make the groove pop a little bit more so in this drw Liston I'm going to show you three high hat patterns that I think every drummer should practice so they can apply it to any Groove that they play before we start with the first Groove all my channel members out there can download everything from this lesson including the transcriptions The Click tracks and my drum tracks in the link and the member Community tab so if you want to get access to some extra bonus content consider joining the channel membership now let's get [Music] groovy this first one you might already know it's a one-handed 16th note pattern but it's important to be able to play accented notes on the high hats as you can see in the transcription in this example we're accenting the one end of every beat so essentially we're accenting the eighth notes while the E and ANS are played as soft Strokes when you play this pattern on the high hat you want to play the accents with the shoulder of your drumstick on the edge of the high hat and all the non-aed notes you play with the tip of the drumstick on the surface of the high hat like this first let's practice with only the high hat at a slow tempo now let's apply the bass drum and beat 1 and three and the snare drum and beat 2 and [Music] four awesome once you've gotten used to this high hat technique you can apply it to any Groove that you love to [Music] play all right you guys let's move on to high hat pattern number two this high hat pattern can basically make any Groove funky as you can see in the transcription this groove consists of two 16th notes and one accident eighth note Again The non-accident Strokes are played on the surface of the high hat and the accident stroke is played on the edge of the high hat let's practice just the pattern at a slow tempo and now let's bring in the groove [Music] nice and just like the previous example you can play this pattern with any Groove that you love to play and you'll notice how different it's going to [Music] sound awesome work you guys make sure you're a subscriber before this video ends time for the last high hat [Music] pattern this is basically the reverse version of the previous pattern this high hat pattern starts with an accident eighth note and follows by two 16th notes let's try the high hat pattern slowly and now let's apply a simple [Music] Groove [Music] and as usual now you can try it out with your favorite [Music] grooves that's it you guys those are three high hat patterns that I believe every drummer should practice if you like this video give it a thumbs up and if you're not a subscriber yet hit that subscribe button and the notification Bell to stay updated whenever I release new video if you want more exercises to improve your high hat technique check out this video right here thank you so much for watching everyone and good luck with your drumming I'll see you soon
