This 1,000 x 1,000 hole on 2b2t was created
from a backdoor and has been discussed countless times. Most players thought it was made for something
greater, like a massive item storage area to store illegal items. However, this is further than the truth. What started from making a video about a base
at this location turned into a rabbit hole I could have never expected. So, without further ado, let’s begin. This story began in 2015. A severe backdoor occurred on the server,
initiated by the players iTristan and ImperatorTerrae. This incident had its roots in the server’s
deteriorating state after Hausemaster handed over management to GeorgeBush420 in 2014. The official 2b2t website, crucial for communication
and financing, had become non-operational. Georgebush420, lacking experience, demanded
$250 from players to revive the website, which was quickly met through donations. However, after a year and a half, the website
was never restored, and suspicion grew that the funds were used to keep the server running. So ImperatorTerrae, who handled communication
with Georgebush420, and iTristan, who would do the technical heavy lifting, would create
a website and hand it over to Georgebush420, where the backdoor began. Georgebush420 made a crucial mistake by running
the web box on the same server host as 2b2t, and while Georgebush420 was installing software
for the website, iTristan was able to backdoor the login form and phished GeorgeBush420’s
password as he typed it in to install the software. From then on, iTristan gained total root access
to the server. With this power, iTristan could upload and
download region and player files, manipulate players by moving their inventory or location,
and much more, but the primary purpose of the backdoor was to move Imperator’s Base. Using MCedit, iTristan would copy Imp’s
base and paste it to a different location millions of blocks away from spawn. Not far from this location, an error would
be discovered. A 1,000 by 1,000 hole, slicing through chunks,
was formed. Initially thought to be intentionally made
by iTristan, it was further than the truth. When I asked iTristan about this location,
he didn’t even know what that hole was. It was most likely a chunk error or MCedit
fail. It was odd since most old players thought
otherwise that it was made for something greater. To confirm we were talking about the exact
location, I sent the video that FitMC made of the same area a few years ago, and iTristan
would say that most of the information was false. The video said this hole had a sign near it
named Kali’s Gape, named after iTristan’s base mate at Imps. And that the hole was either planned to be
used to store the largest item stash on the server or to make it a location similar to
the End dimension. There was also a structure that supposedly
had a sign with iTristan’s alternate Minecraft account and another structure that was a floating
island made out of quartz. But iTristan would tell me he found that extremely
disrespectful because he never placed the sign, and someone pulled off a successful
troll. He wasn’t even aware this hole existed until
a video came about, like it must have been a mistake. It is most likely an error from the copy of
Imp’s base. But if iTristan never knew about this location,
who placed the signs and structures? Looking for clues, I would message some old
players, but then I remembered I was working on an Imp’s base video script around a year
ago, and a player named TheLampGod was one of the first players to discover this location. I messaged him on Discord about what iTristan
told me, and he knew the answer. Due to rumors of Imp’s base 2 being an actual
location, an old player named Offtopia went hunting for this location over the years. Around May 2019, there was a boatphase exploit
going around. TheLampGod used it to bring it to Mu Megabase
and shared it with the group. Offtopia, being one of the members of Mu,
asked TheLampGod for help with checking some coordinates of some potential “backdoor
Imps” with the boat phase exploit, so he used a shared alternate Minecraft account
to move it. After some hiccups, Offtopia found the massive
hole and thought it was a failed experiment, that the gape was all there was. A bedrock floor was already created under
it when the chunks were loaded due to a plugin created for the End dimension, which meant
someone else visited before him. Offtopia would create a quartz structure inspired
by this screenshot. TheLampGod wouldn’t think about this location
until many months later, in September 2019, when he traveled to it on his account for
fun. When he arrived, he followed chunks trails
and, to his surprise, found the real backdoored Imperator’s base. Offtopia had found it shortly after discovering
the gape but hadn’t told TheLampGod about it. After the Viper base was griefed, Offtopia
would invite some base members, and their stash was moved to this location. The sign with iTristan’s alternate account
name wasn’t his but TheLampGod’s. On May 29, 2021, TheLampGod discovered two
signs by Jared2013 at the base of the Jesus statue. He flew around the base and found Jared at
the floating castle in the south. The base was lost and blown up a couple of
hours later by the players Orsond, Jared2013, and HermeticLock. The sign in Fit’s video named “Kali’s
Gape” was a meme by Jared2013, and TheLampGod doesn’t think that sign existed on the server. Over time, this location would occasionally
get visitors, but nothing significant would happen for quite a while. In March 2023, the group DonFuer needed a
new big project to raise the group’s spirits, and the leader, D_loaded, returned to a concept
he had thought of in 2021. He wanted to build something “upside down.” The inverted pyramid at another base, DonFuer
20, was the first example of something along those lines. D_loaded started by drawing some basic designs
to pitch the idea with Microsoft Paint. Then, he transitioned into building the schematic
for this in single-player. Rather than just doing an upside-down city,
he decided it should be mirrored right side up and upside down. By the beginning of 2023, he built the central
dome’s right side up first, then used World Edit to flip it and change the roof colors. Additional smaller domes and towers were added
to enhance the scale, eventually settling on the final design in March, naming the event
“Project Mirror.” However, it was so large it would require
a location mined down to bedrock for the build to fit. The group spent several days searching for
a solution, but when they scrolled through 2b2t’s archive server, they discovered the
gape at Imp’s Base 2 alongside its coordinates. When they arrived, it was untouched except
for a 1-block layer of water over the bottom. Due to the sensitive location, construction
needed to be fast. The players Lukent and N8TT began transporting
the necessary build materials a few days before the project’s announcement. A handful of DonFuer’s most trusted members
were invited on March 27th, 2023. Another player named Darkomier contributed
most of the building, although many other DonFuer members visited and assisted in the
construction. There were no major conflicts besides the
constant concern that the hole might receive visitors because it was close to Imps Base
2. The group aimed to finish the project in 2
months, but due to the immense efforts of Darkomier, they finished in just one month. Before the project’s completion, a name
had not been fully agreed upon; “Project Mirror” was considered a temporary name. But after seeing Darkomier’s incredible
contribution, the group decided to call the build “The Dark Mirror” in honor of him,
and the name stuck. The group released their video of The Dark
Mirror on June 3rd, two months after finishing the project because it still hadn’t been
griefed. However, on July 25th, disaster struck. The Teutonic Order was searching for larger
bases to grief since the group had a lot of momentum behind it in July. To them, DonFuer was the easiest target at
the time. They had already destroyed 2 DonFuer bases
that week and then The Dark Mirror. They attempted to brag and claim they found
the base through an “exploit,” which led to some drama, but it was most likely to make
D_loaded angry. The hole is still there today, with the ruins
of the Dark Mirror. We may never know who found the spot first
- only it will ever know. This hole, created from error, has seen the
rise and fall of massive bases. It will now lay to rest until, again, someone
will claim this spot as their new home.
