Some Willy Wonka type ish right here
This has been my favorite channel during the pandemic.
Really cool! I don't think I'll ever get to visit there, but was really awesome to see.
I love David and cruising the cut
Isnβt engine exhaust a problem in a tunnel that length? Canβt imagine there is much ventilation
I thought this was pretty cool, even with some HL2 water hazard vibes in some parts.
Great channel, I've been watching it for a while. I've also visited the town of Diggle and it's quite a nice little spot :-)
Re ventilation, there are air shafts (originally the construction shafts) that create an updraft as warm air rises out of them. I believe the connected railway tunnels (one active and two disused) use the same shafts, and the canal was even used to haul away rock during railroad construction. Really interesting setup!
There was a man whose job it was to walk the horses over the top while the boats were being legged through the tunnel. Back and forth all day, every day across the Pennines. Quite an enviable life tbh.
I can say, with a high degree of certainty, that I was the first person to ever ride a stand up paddle board through there.
