[Music] welcome to garage shop minnesota on today's video i have a 24 inch dime alloy made in usa adjustable wrench by diamond kel horseshoe company duluth minnesota which is actually where i'm from now diamond calc daimloy went into business in the early 1900s and then went out of business in the early 1980s being from minnesota these tools can still be found fairly easy going through garage sales or flea markets you can also go to ebay i've noticed that they get fairly expensive out there though i've only found a couple of the 24-inch wrenches through garage sales here's one of them that i have and this one is actually in fairly good shape it's got some dents and dings in it and this is as close as it comes to closing all the way [Music] and you can see that dirt and grease is probably what's keeping this from closing all the way and this is a little stiff here it does open but it's pretty stiff now to give you an idea of how big that wrench is here's a 10 inch that i use all the time so you can see how massive this is compared to that 10 inch so for today's project what i want to do is get this tore apart get that grease get that dirt out of there and get this back into good use all right so the first step in getting this taken apart is there is a slotted screw that's holding this in place here that will go all the way into here so i've got my slotted screwdriver and hopefully this comes out easily all right it is turning which is good [Music] so in my experience with wrenches like these i can get them to this point and if you i don't know if you can see but it kind of just spins freely doesn't want to come out so that's when i take this it'll magnetize your screwdriver now this this tip is magnetized now [Music] and very slowly just work on getting that pulled out there we go [Music] so the slot's in very good shape i mean this doesn't look like it's ever been taken apart a lot of grease on there that should just come out [Music] and then this should just slide out [Music] all right so i've got this tip magnetized as you can see here but i don't want to keep it that way [Music] now with these like i showed before magnetizes on top and to demagnetize it it's on the bottom so you just put it through here [Music] as you do that a few times and now [Music] no magnet i don't use this a lot but i do use it from time to time it is it is handy to have it's a nice little tool okay so like i mentioned prior you can see all the dirt and grease that's in there that we're gonna work on right now getting that out of there and you can see more in here you can't really see but it does go all the way back in there as well so i'm just gonna get a screwdriver slotted screwdriver and just scrape that out of there [Music] [Music] now i'm going to clean up these parts just a little bit i'm going to use this degreaser spray here [Music] spray those down let those soak for a little while break down that grease and then as you can see here's the dirt that i got out of the wrench so far [Music] i remove as much dirt as i could from the parts because i want to wire wheel these next i'm pretty particular about getting as much dirt and grease off of the parts as i can because i do not want to contaminate my wire wheels with any dirt or grease but up to this point everything's looking very good and let's work on getting some of this excess rust off of here [Music] i was able to get all the rust off of the wrench everything's looking really good now i'm going to focus on getting these dents and dings out of the wrench here now a few more on here that i want to address i'm going to take a flap just to this [Music] alright so always be careful when using a flap disc i got my finger cotton there and that's actually burned [Music] so for my next project i'll be restoring my finger [Music] [Music] hmm [Music] [Music] me [Music] so [Music] [Music] [Music] and the wrench is done came out very well and very very pleased with how this turned out [Music] got rid of all those dents and dings [Music] all gone on the handle [Music] so daimloy had these green handles and that's why i added a little bit of green into the color here as well wrench opens and closes very smoothly now [Music] i'm able to get it shut all the way as before it came to maybe right about here now i'm able to get it shut all the way so as you can see there's still some dents in the face of the jaw these are actually very deep and would have been very hard to sand down i could have got my welder out and filled those in and then sanded them down but this face both these faces are still very flat i didn't want to mess around with that and after i got this polished up just it just seemed to add character to the wrench so i just left them alone i had a lot of fun with this wrench i hope you enjoyed watching it if you did please like and subscribe and i'll see you on the next project [Music] you
