the Moon album at the very end of eclipse if you listen very carefully you can hear a Orchestral Version of Ticket to Ride by the Beatles [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] the dark side of the moon was recorded at Abbey Road Studios and includes various interview clips that Pink Floyd did with the staff at Abbey Road at the end of eclipse we hear a little interview clip from The Abbey Road doorman and it just so happened that when they were interviewing him a strings version of Ticket to Ride by The Beatles was being mixed in one of the other Studios so we can hear it in the background of that clip the second fact on this list is also a Pink Floyd fact did you know that the little tiny bit of strings that we hear at the beginning of wish you were here is a sample from the Fourth Movement of Tchaikovsky's Symphony Number Four did you know that at the beginning of Roxanne by the police that weird piano chord we hear followed by laughter was played by Sting's bum [Music] oh let's sting explain in this clip that's a piano chord it's a piano great is but I played it with my ass he was accidentally said on the piano there was a there was an upright piano right next to me and I was singing and I just wanted to rest and I the piano lid was open so I sat and I played that chord I think it's a demolished and it just made me laugh so it's on the record did you know that legendary guitarist Jeff Beck who sadly passed away recently actually wrote the iconic opening drum beat to Superstition by Stevie Wonder Beck explains how this happened in this interview clip here Motown had agreed with me playing on Stevie's talking book he went off for a lunch and I grabbed the opportunity of sitting behind cozy Powell's drum kit I started playing the only music I knew in comes Steve here how many shouts out don't stop and I said Stevie it's Jeff it's Jeff I don't play the drums he says yes you do and then he started playing the band you know the Batman and I went oh my God I'm just playing the Stevie Wonder I'm sure you're familiar with the song Killing Me Softly with his song music in the lyric to that song is none other than iconic songwriter Don McLean and the song that he was using to kill herselfly was empty chairs here's a clip of Lori Lieberman who originally performed that song describing the experience that inspired the lyric I went to the Troubadour to see a singer that I had not heard of Don McLean and when he sang the song Empty Chairs just killed me did I never understood [Music] that although you said you'd go one two I stayed there and wrote a poem on a napkin and they expanded the poem into Killing Me Softly it was this young boy a stranger of course Don McLean is most well known for writing American Pie something touched me deep inside the day the muse music died which is a song inspired by the so-called Day the Music Died which was February the 3rd 1959 the day that rock and roll Stars Buddy Holly Ritchie Valens and the Big Bopper tragically died in an airplane accident now I know that you know the song Wonderwall by Oasis but you probably don't know what a wonder wall is well Wonderwall was a film that came out in the 60s that was scored by Beatles George Harrison did you know that in some versions of the song Lola by The Kinks the lyric is tastes just like Coca-Cola and in other versions it tastes just like Cherry Cola [Music] the original lyric was Coca-Cola but because the BBC had rules against product placement at the time Ray Davies actually had to fly back from America where the kings were on a U.S tour just to re-record the lyric to Cherry Cola so the song could be played on BBC Radio did you know that the bass solo on You Can Call Me Al was originally only one bar long but they doubled up its length by reversing it so we're hearing the same thing twice once forward and then once backwards [Music] um did you know that on the track you ought to know by Alanis Morissette the basis being played by flee from the Red Hot Chili Peppers and when Alanis Morissette sings the lyric it was a slap in the face we can hear a little slap sound from the bass courtesy of Fleet did you know that the inspiration for Smells Like Teen Spirit was when Kathleen Hannah who was the singer from the band Bikini Kill wrote on Kurt Cobain's wall Kurt Smells Like Teen Spirit Teen Spirit was a girl's deodorant which is what she was talking about when she wrote Kurt's mouth's Like Teen Spirit but Kurt Cobain didn't actually know about that deodorant so he thought she was making some sort of revolutionary angstyu statement which inspired the song Kurt didn't find out about the existence of the Teen Spirit deodorant until after the song had come out piano note is an online interactive resource for learning how turned it into a funk disco classic here's a little clip of Gnar Rogers explaining how the song Turned from an acoustic guitar folk song to the version of Let's Dance we know today he walks into my bedroom one morning he says no darling I think this song was a hit and he starts playing something like this juice he was playing it on a 12-string guitar so it sounded like folk music to me I said to him uh hey David uh can I do an arrangement of this song and he said sure man knock yourself out the first thing I did is I started playing his moving voice that I played her on the next time I can make it chunkier and Tighter so I played I was getting in my Nile thing doing too much so I just decided to move the whole song up an octave and go thank you did he know that Kate Bush not only wrote the iconic song Wuthering Heights when she was only 18 years old but when that song went to number one she became the first female artist to get her UK number one with a self-penned song [Music] the 14th fact on this list is that the classic Four Season song over tonight December 63 was originally set in December 33 not 63. the title was going to be December 5th 1933 because the song was written about the repealing of prohibition when alcohol was banned in America but Frankie Valli and Judy Parker urged Bob gaudio who wrote the song to change it to 1963 and instead make the song about romance rather than prohibition what did you know that Frank Sinatra's signature song my way is associated with various violent killings that have happened in the Philippines at karaoke bars my way is a popular song of choice at karaoke bars which are very popular in the Philippines and on various occasions drunken violence often happening because or at least during a rendition of my way has led to people being killed which is why in many karaoke bars in the Philippines the song my way is not available to be sang anymore another very famous song by Frank Sinatra is Fly Me to the Moon fly me to the to them let me you know that when this song was written it was actually called in other words and was in the time signature of three four not four four producer arranger Quincy Jones who rearranged Fly Me to the Moon into four four Frank Sinatra and Quincy Jones is actually the topic of our next fact Quincy Jones was of course the producer behind some of Michael Jackson's most famous recordings including the song Beat It it was Quincy Jones who invited Eddie Van Halen to perform his iconic guitar solo on Michael Jackson's Beat it and did you know that during the recording of This guitar solo the studio speakers actually caught on fire Eddie was playing and so on and the monitor speakers literally caught on fire the whole speaker was caught fire and we're all looking at it this must be really good this song the technicians had a race into the control room with fire extinguishers and put out the fire did you know that Sweet Home Alabama by Lynyrd Skynyrd is actually a response to two songs by Neil Young Southern Man and Alabama [Music] [Applause] fact number 19 on the list is that the acapella song Tom Steiner by Suzanne Vega was actually used in the development of the MP3 format I am sitting in the morning at the diner on the corner I am waiting Carl Heinz Brandenburg who invented the MP3 wanted to make sure that the compression involved in the MP3 format wouldn't impact the sound of the human voice so he needed a purely acapella recording to use as a test so Thomas Diner proved to be perfect for the job have you ever wondered about the origin of the Big Boys Don't Cry bit in the middle of I'm Not in Love by 10cc question [Music] well the female voice saying Big Boys Don't Cry was actually the voice of the receptionist of the recording studio that 10cc were recording in what should we do next just as we said that the secretary at the studio Kathy Redford popped her head around the door said Eric there's a phone call for you and then they said that's it so I immediately turned around and ran back to the reception area I thought no way um and LOL came after me actually and took me in and said we want you to do something for us all the time I'm thinking how thing I can't do this and I remember Kev came in with me into the studio and said you've just got to whisper now let's finish this video off with three facts about Beatles songs did you know that at 2 minutes 58 into Hey Jude you can hear one of the Beatles saying the F word [Music] at the very end of The Beatles record Abbey Road we get a very short hidden track called her majesty pretty nice girl but she doesn't have a lot now her majesty is probably the first example of a hidden track at the end of an album but it wasn't done intentionally the song Her Majesty was originally going to be part of the wider Abbey Road medley but when the band decided to take it out of the medley they cut it out and put it at the very end of the tape for safe keeping when listening back to the end of Abbey Road they forgot that her majesty was there and they thought it was so funny that it just came out of nowhere that they decided to keep it and the final fact in this list is something that you will already know if you watched my recent Recreation of The Beatles song A Day in the Life which is that at the end of a day in the life which is the last track on Sergeant Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band we get this Loop of nonsense at the very end of the song Beatles had already finished recording a day in their life but then they got the idea to put a little Loop of nonsense in the run out Groove at the end of the vinyl record the groove that continues going round and round on a loop at the end of a vinyl record which is usually filled with silence but the Beatles decided it would be a funny idea to put a ridiculous Loop of audio that would keep playing until you turn the record off so that is 23 facts that hopefully you didn't already know about classic songs please let me know in the comments which you didn't and did know and if you can think of any other interesting facts about classic songs then maybe we could do a follow-up video to this one foreign [Music] [Music] thank you [Music] foreign [Music]
