TLDW:
He's right about bussing being a huge workflow step, but the way he talks about bus effects is a little misleading. He says that compression is applied to each of the tracks in the bus so that you don't have to compress them individually. It's actually applied to the mix of the instruments, and can be very effective to "glue" them together/make the mix level more consistent, but there are still reasons to do individual compression as well.
So bussing is super-useful, and bus effects are super-useful in addition to track effects.
A rare βlistβ video worth watching.
This channel is full of great stuff. He's got a bunch of cheat sheets you can download for free that are really handy to have playing around, too.
What kind of hardware do I need to mix? I just have logic on my mac. is that enough to get a solid mix of an acoustic folk album?
Good video. Wish I had that guys enthusiasm haha
Love posts like this. You my friend, had a mission and you completed it. Well done.
incredible video.
Great tips, but I found off putting how bad are the sound effects implemented (muting the narration) in a video about sound mixing.
