hello everybody my name is tina i'm the teacup teacher and welcome to my channel if you are new here i am going to be a fifth year fifth and sixth grade teacher on the coast of maine and this year i will be teaching social studies and ela so i'm very excited as you can tell the title of this video i'm going to take you on a classroom tour today [Music] there are a couple of things that i want to talk to you about so if you're here just to see my classroom you can fast forward until you no longer see my face i am very much a type a b teacher i'm a little bit of both uh i will be completely transparent with you guys i suffer from add and i am medicated for it although now i think it's adhd with inattentivity i think they call it i don't even know anymore but anyway i have a very difficult time focusing and following through on tasks it's been a lifelong struggle of mine uh but why am i telling you this because you're gonna see things like this that aren't done and that's just who i am also i haven't done that because i am redoing all of my labels this year and my teacher toolbox is the last thing on my list because it's for me it's not for my students so i just want to explain to you guys why some things have obviously been started but not finished also because this is reality my classroom is not pinterest perfect my classroom has never been and ever will be so because of that you're gonna see things that aren't finished there is one thing that i do want to walk you through that i will be working on next week so today is friday august 27th and teachers report on tuesday for first contract day wednesday we have a full day to work in our classrooms and i'm going to kind of pick away one little project that is not finished uh so like i said things are not done my classroom is less than perfect it is especially not pretty because there are like different colored paint swatches on the wall which i got permission to paint next summer so yay for that um so i just want to preface this video by saying my classroom is very much a reality of it's hot in here we don't have air conditioning i have a very difficult time following through with things that i start and i'm just not perfect without further ado let's go ahead and get this classroom tour started i will be telling you where i got things from or they will be linked in the description down below my most commonly asked four items are always linked in the description they're like a default setting so they're always in there and i'm gonna try to remember to tell you where i got everything from i have a very hard time with the tpt thing so those definitely will be in the description because i cannot remember store names where i got things from so um most things are tpt amazon and target if you are interested in any of those items they will be linked down below so let's get started we are going to start over by the front door of my classroom before we start i am going to do a quick pan and then i will take you through each section of the room where everything came from and all that good stuff so this is the view from the door when students enter [Music] i have this banner that says hello sunshine this is from last school year and i actually don't want to have it this year i just put it up that way i had something on my door for when students come in this bulletin board will be just generic announcements any papers that go home there may be extra copies here our fire evacuation plan is here i believe this is for lunch boxes i don't actually know uh it was in my room but i noticed every classroom has it that's the only thing i could think of this is our affirmation station hello friends uh i came up with the words on all of them so the actual affirmations i created uh i used amy grosbeck fonts i can list all this down below however the circle with the clipart and all of that did come from tpt they are linked in my description i believe i called them like affirmation dots or something like that it's a door decor package i remember that much uh and i want to say it's like miss jake or something but these are all of them ignore the label that's on my pants i will explain the story behind that in just one second [Music] the funny thing about this affirmation station if you guys remember when i taught in maine if you followed me for a while you know that i had this like fixed mirror and i'm gonna talk to you guys through here there was like a fixed mirror and it was so ugly and i just wanted something disperse it up so i had just gotten my cricut and i wanted to use it so i created stickers that went around and said like i am valued i am whatever and i put them like three down on each side and then all of a sudden like affirmation stations took off and i was like oh my gosh like i actually had this so that was pretty cool but anyway this is the 6.88 mirror from walmart right next to the affirmation station we have our student supply shelf so this is like the student hub anything that's up here they can access as needed as long as i'm not in the middle of teaching i mean obviously if they are taking notes and need pencil they can come grab one but this is stuff that they do not need permission to touch or take or anything like that this is the 3x3 calyx from ikea and then this is the 1x3 calyx from ikea typically or 1x4 i'm sorry typically people use these as benches because i'm teaching fifth and sixth grade i decided not to do that this year all of these black bins are sterilite bins i believe they are the large i will link them down below i've had a couple people ask me about them they are amazing and the labels i created so the funny story about the label on my pants this guy right here i actually filmed this video yesterday and i'm refilming it today because i wasn't happy with it and in the middle of filming i realized that label said that that is not how you spell products xena so i switched that out today over here i do need to pick up a bin for noise-canceling headphones and then this is the finished like turn in station so fifth grade has their own bin sixth grade has their own bin and then my homeroom bin is white so any like paperwork that has to come to me goes over here up top is just this little ikea tolsb frame which i realized last night they don't sell anymore and i'm so so sad but uh this just says stop pilot your name and number there's an electric paper oh my gosh what's it called not paper sharpener uh hole puncher up here on the top and then down here i also have two regular ones that students can use right above it and another stereo light bin is kind of like our whiteboard station i don't know if it's gonna stay here but that's its home for now and then i have this paper tray so i have lined paper on the top blank computer paper in the middle one and then on the bottom as i accumulate scrap paper throughout the year i always leave it in a bin for students to use as scrap paper or just whatever they need and then up top over here i have my alexa tucked back there an old globe that i've had for many many years a fake plant i think this is from ikea i have a sterilite bin uh this is one of the sterilite minis that has homeless crayons so anytime i find a crayon on the floor at the end of the day or if a student finds one they can come drop it in this drawer and if a student says miss morrow i don't have a red crayon they can come right to this drawer and grab it i do start the year with some fresh ones in there there are some older ones as you can tell but i do start the year with a couple of fresh boxes there's erasers in here i always cut chunk erasers in half because lord knows that they disappear or get eaten i'm just kidding i hope um but you go through less if you cut them in half and then on the bottom are pencil grips if a student needs one we have our pencil sharpener and then these bathroom signs now before anybody comes for me in the comments i am totally all for using student pronouns not associating colors with certain genders and sexes and things like that however hear me out we have a girls bathroom and a boys bathroom i can only have one student in each bathroom at a time so i did keep this one it's honestly like it's not even it looks really pink on camera but it's like almost like a beige color and then this one is more gray so they're not super blue and super pink but like i said i personally whatever a student wants to be called whatever they identify as i am fine with that but the reality of the matter is we have a girls bathroom and a boys bathroom and i can only have one student at a time how do these work well if a student says miss maro i need to go to the bathroom which i hate when students ask but anyway that's a story for another day when a student goes to the bathroom they will come take this frame and they will put it on their desk that way in the event of a fire drill or an emergency i can just do a super quick glance and i will know who is out and how many students are out of my room when they come back they just walk it over and they put it right back so like i said i didn't want to do pink and blue so it's like a beige color and a gray color that way they know there is somebody in the girls bathroom and there is somebody in the boys bathroom i'm gonna have to wait over here i have this straw dispenser from amazon i've had this for two or three years now i am obsessed with it it houses all of our sharpened pencils so they are all pre-sharpened and as a student needs pencil sharpened if they're just like a generic one i have them drop them right in here i will sharpen them and add them back to our bucket if it is a pencil that like you know specialty pencils that students really like and it's theirs they are welcome to sharpen it but i've noticed students tend to drop the generic pencils right in here for me to sharpen and then right above to kind of hide this different colored paint i have this canvas that i got at tj maxx i think it was and it just says be the change and it was on clearance because there's a little tear right there which you can't even really see from far away i have my super attractive tech cart this houses my apple tv and my projector and i just spent my own money to order an adapter that will make my laptop hopefully stream right to the apple tv without having to plug in my computer this will be our generic ela focus board so anything that applies to both grade levels is going to go on this board such as the race strategy this is something i am huge on so these are here i will link these down below um these are like the farmhouse something or other and then across the top are text evidence sentence stems this black background is the better than paper backgrounds and then this is the eucalyptus border which is on amazon and i will also link and then up top i have some growth mindset posters from i think it's like miss jacobs something i will link those i do need to move them because they are not centered across the board for some reason i thought i had more that would go all the way to the end but i don't uh but that is something that will happen maybe at some point this school year but they are super sweet up on this front wall i do have the transmitter not the transmitter but like the receiver for my wireless doorbell and then on the ledge i have my scholastic pointer finger which i purchased at a warehouse sale before i even started student teaching and then this harry potter wand i think i bought this for like right after halloween last year uh notice that there's not much on my ledge i don't like things on the whiteboard or chalkboard ledges they drive me crazy because they always fall it drives me nuts here this kind of just lives in the front of the room we have my standing rolling desk this is from amazon there are multiple styles available there's a new one that i wish they had when i purchased this but i love my standing desk it moves so freely and easily it goes over rugs with ease and it's just amazing it has a little lip here i have talked about this in a previous video from last school year so cannot recommend it enough and it's great for the price as you can see my doorbell remote does kind of live on the end there is one other location that i do sometimes keep it but we will talk about that a little bit later um but this is one place that it tends to be moving over we have what used to be my chalkboard i covered it with peel and stick wallpaper which i will link in the description down below there are many different styles i went with this one because it matched that whole light and airy theme and i figured it was simple enough that things that were posted on there didn't get lost the reason that i have all of my magnetic things on here is because i don't like magnetic things taking up valuable space on my whiteboard that has always been something that has driven me crazy over the years so when i saw that i had a poop brown chalkboard i decided that i didn't want a chalkboard i wanted a place to put all of my magnetic things so the date cards and my shelves and things like that so this is where they're all going to live this is a shower caddy from target this is not where it is going to live i am waiting on some extra heavy duty magnets so it can sit a little bit lower but on this top shelf i have a little pail from ikea holding all of my magnets they've kind of just bunched together the second shelf has my extra large expo eraser you guys know that i swear by this thing it is three years old this year and i am still not out of pads and then i have some random extra magnets just kind of chilling there and then all of my whiteboard markers are here typically honestly they're not going to be here i tend to keep them in my apron which i will show you guys once we get over to my teacher desk area but uh i know it's like hard to get to the ones on the bottom but like i said they won't all be there all year up top i have my date cards this is a walmart magnetic curtain rod and i did matte spray these this school year so they are visible from wherever you are in the room and i did create these so uh these were not purchased on tpt i then have a second magnetic curtain rod that's just kind of holding my chart paper in case i need it it does kind of just keep it from falling forward so it is resting on the ledge but that is keeping it in place right up top i just threw up some black border over here i have some white spice shelves from amazon this fake plant is from tj maxx and then i have these little speech bubbles these are basically identical to uh letters from fourth i believe is her name it's mikael over there i just made my own because i knew that i could so i will link hers down below that way if you are interested in something similar you can purchase hers this will be our more focused ela board so any content essential questions i can statements vocabulary words etc will all go here this is our ketchup bin so any work that is not finished or if student is absent i will put it in their numbered folder and this is where they come to check this shelf was thrifted from an old school so it was like this really weird green color and i painted it white obviously it needs to be repainted it got a little beat up in storage this is not where markers are going to live but it's the only spot that they have for right now i have legos contraptions and magic bricks you guys students are obsessed with contraptions uh they have like little wood blocks like almost like jenga blocks you can kind of see it there and then they have to build like ramps so you can kind of see what that is i will link this down below it is not cheap but it's so good for stem and growth mindset also up front is kind of just like our little flexible seating hub i have three hokie stools a lap desk and then four lap trees down below that students are free to utilize as necessary as long as they are being responsible i have my rocking chair i have two little tables one is from ikea you can see that they're a little bit different one has like a faux wood grain and one is solid and pretty beat up but one is from ikea and then i think one is from walmart so these you can find pretty much anywhere i got both of them at goodwill also from goodwill is this chair uh there is storage like underneath it was a very weird purpley brown color but i ended up spraying spraying it with fabric paint and this is just kind of where it lives i paid 250 for this at goodwill because i had a coupon and it was on sale and then my classroom library i'm going to show you just a quick pan of this area this ikea rolling cart is housing a caddy that has some bookmarks i do plan to add more but these were on clearance at staples when i was there the other day some post-it notes i will put some pencils here if students need them and i don't know what the other two shelves are going to be but i will see what my students needs are before i decide on that on the top of this bookcase and that bookcase over there i have these dollar like plate frame holder things from dollar tree and then this is how i display different books that we have i do rotate them out seasonally or by student interest or ones that i think students may enjoy but they're not really picking up this bookcase and this bookcase are from ikea as well as this but this first one and the one over there are the billy bookcases this is the calyx on this shelf are all of my series or ones that are like i have a bunch of books by a specific author so all of the series are up top except for obviously that's not a series but it's miss mars favorite so my favorite books that i read especially when i was their age and then down here are the author books i will say the only one that's not an author is harry potter i could have put jk rowling but a rowling or however you say it but students are going to know it for harry potter so it is what it is these are the regular stereo light bins from walmart i think they come like 10 in a case they fit perfectly for a cross on this shelf up top i have like an extra large sterilite bin i do need to switch this label out i have one that matches the new colors and this is our classroom library book return bin so anytime a student is done with a book it's going to go here i am in the process of labeling all of these books so anything that is not going to be on this shelf is going to have a label earlier i had mentioned that we have a teacher workday next week where we can spend the entire day in our classroom and this is my project for that day is going through and labeling all of my books in here is my favorite resource for students these are from monster wrangler mike and they are book recommendation menus so if a student read something they liked hatchet it gives them a bunch of books to read that they may like um if they like i survived and they read all of them here's some more stories that they may like if they liked the crossover or a sports book these are more that they're able to read so um really really love this and my students know that if i don't have a book in here and they really think that they want to read it or they're going to read it i do not mind purchasing the book for them so this binder lives in here these lamps that still have their tags are from target and my favorite part about these is this wireless outlet control so if you'll notice it has numbers and then says on and off so if i push off it turns both lights on after or off at the same time and if i push on it turns them both on i do have an extra one of these over by my desk that way i have one here and i have one over there on the sides of the tapestry i do have some posters i don't love the ones that are here but they're going to work for now so there's six or three on each side and then this tapestry i am in love with it it was not my first choice but given that i'm teaching social studies and i do love anything watercolor i figured it would grow on me and i'm so glad that i did it because i really do love it on this bulletin board on the back wall is all of our social studies stuff so i do have sixth grade uh posters up here now i still am working on getting together my fifth grade posters and then this is where i post our i can statement or essential questions if you watched my last video i talked about spray painting these with the matte spray because you'll see that these are spray painted so there's no glare have not gotten around to doing that but they are up that way if i don't get to it before the first day of school no big deal that background for the bulletin board is also the better than paper more of the eucalyptus and then this border is the same one that is on top of the chalkboard up front and then my teacher area so this desk was purchased on amazon and there are many different colors given that it's just a lot of different wood tones back here i do wish that i had gone with a different color but i got permission to paint next year so i may paint the shelves white which would make this kind of pop a little bit more but i do love the size of the desk it's absolutely wonderful on my desk is my apron it's a little bit dusty but i do keep in here some extra pencils if students need them my whiteboard markers see there's one in here from last year i keep the projector remote in here there's a chapstick in here somewhere and then this is the other home for there's two whiteboard markers in here this is the other home for my wireless doorbell so i do keep it on me if i've noticed that i'm not really going to be using my standing desk that day i will use this that way it is always on me um and this is just a little three pocket waist apron and then this is my logo that i created for my youtube channel a couple years ago the desk does come with these two little hooks on the side so i just hang my keys and like my logging camera case and my hydro flask from it and it just kind of keeps it off my desk and it keeps them all in one place i then have this little pen and pencil caddy this is from tj maxx i don't think they sell it anymore but i just like that it says pens etc and pencils so all of my miscellaneous stuff like hole punchers scissors all of that just kind of goes right in that middle one this is a bin of random junk that doesn't really have a home but this is the other remote i was telling you about so there's two so i can turn them off from here or i can turn them on from here i do have a fridge this year if you guys didn't notice i did put some of my contact paper on the back so it's just a little bit more aesthetically pleasing on top of it i do keep my paper trimmer my freezer is empty and then my fridge is full of energy drinks guys i'm actually not vague on energy drinks even though i know it doesn't look like it however i do keep these on hand for emergencies we have plc's until five o'clock every wednesday so i have a feeling that i may need these sometimes but i do just keep some on hand just in case back here i do keep a ring light for the days that i do vlog typically it is kind of tucked away right in there on this shelf some are empty and some are just placeholders so there's nothing up here this shelf has a paper tray which i'm pretty sure is supposed to be laying down but i like the way that it looks standing up i have my keurig which isn't even plugged in so it's more just for looks right now i don't really drink hot coffee i'm a cold brew person and then i have my pod holder these are all of my substitute bins so any day that i'm out i will leave everything ready to go in a bin and then this is my junk bin of things that i know i'm gonna need in the first week or two but they just don't have a home yet up on this top shelf for all of my mentor texts uh in alpha not alphabetical order in rainbow order uh because honestly i don't use them all that often and i figured if i need it like i can come grab it but i just like the way that it looked it just added a fun little bit of color this is just extra computer paper for when we get low on the other side of the room i have a knife cutter in here which i do need to take home because it's broken and it doesn't go in and i've tried fixing it so many times it's been like this since i bought it we have the half sheets for spelling social studies curriculum which i'm probably not going to use i need to switch out these labels but i'm waiting to see what our pbis rewards are so that's just random stuff and then i keep post-it notes and binder clips although right now there's contact lenses and cards in here on this shelf down here are some like teacher pd books and then i have all of the plastic folders that i purchased for students over the years that i use for small groups some flexible white boards then down here i have colorful dry erase pockets which are for students to use these are for my focus boards and then this doesn't really have a use yet and then this is the squeegee that i've been using for the removable wallpaper as soon as i know that i'm done with it it will go home this shelf is my blue light blockers a random m i think i purchased that at hobby lobby my sister purchased this for me when i was starting student teaching i don't know where she got it from but if anybody's interested i can ask a picture of my puppies and then this one is just waiting on a picture of my boyfriend and i because i have yet to print one off my teacher toolbox which is a hot hot mess i need to switch the labels out but this is what it looks like currently and then coming down and these are my grade level bin so grade copy and display so anything that needs to go up on the bulletin boards will go in there i have one for fifth grade and one for sixth grade and sixth grade does have some some stuff in here that's ready to be put up on the bulletin boards and then these are my daily bins which make planning for the week and prepping for the week so easy anything that i make a copy of goes right in these bins and i pull from it each day this set was purchased at target like five or six years ago and then this set was purchased at walmart i absolutely hate the color labels with these bins but they're one of those things that i had already committed to and i'm not changing at this moment in time i think if i switched the colors like put this one on that one it wouldn't look as bad but whatever it is what it is and then over here are all of my sterilite locking bins these hold all of my back stock of student supplies i have some extra labels here just in case i ever need to make more so all of these have to be accessed by me like if we're getting low on glue sticks i will come grab some and put them in there if we're getting low on crayons i'll grab another box and put them in there anything like that and then these are still awaiting labels so these are colors of the world markers paint brushes scissors this one is all like my note cards i still believe in writing thank you notes and sending them so that's what those are and then these are all of my book rings down here i also have my paints there's watercolors tucked in that box as well all of my forks knives spoons things like that for eating my styrofoam plates just in case we ever need them for paint a literal poop ton of paper clips and then this is kind of just like an arts and crafts junk drawer of stuff that is mine but it doesn't really have a home they're either too small or not enough for a bin like this or they are too big for the teacher toolbox over here is a closet that is full of stuff if you've ever seen friends and you're familiar with monica's closet that's my version of that my lovely sink and under sink cabinets that have no doors so i'm hoping that someone someday will make me a curtain that i can put there because never went through that that has looked like that since i got hired i did clean this one off but i've also just been throwing random stuff up here like we have extra masks i've been putting here extra paper towels this was here and i don't want to get rid of it so there's just random stuff here up here i have more of these sterilite bins that i use to house our novel sets they were just kind of like up here in piles so i feel like this looks a little bit more put together and then their take home bins which i need to redo all of the labels i need to add a number three and a number 20. and i also need to redo these labels above the hooks because well i don't like them i had a pile of stuff that needs to go home to do covered restrictions so that is all of this stuff and then right here are our yoga mats which is another thing for flexible seating they're not going to stay in this bin however this is all i have at the moment so that is what they are living in but these are yoga mats from five below and because i had fourth grade last year i cut the yoga mats into thirds if i were to do this again for fifth and sixth grade i would cut the yoga mask in half but regardless like if a student wants to lay on the floor and work it's a great place to kind of lay their elbows so their elbows aren't digging into the tile if they want to sit crisscross applesauce it's just another place to kind of put their bums so these are just super great and i love them because kids or myself can just spray them down super easily if they were to be shared or you can assign them my students last year kept theirs in their locker all school year so there you have it my classroom for the 21-22 school year like i said it is still very much a work in progress it is not perfect but it's mine and it's going to be my students soon and i am very comfortable with moving things throughout the school year so if something doesn't work for my students like it will move we will change the procedures or the location or the way that they access it i am not one of those teachers where once it starts for the school year that's where it's going to live because it's not about what i want it's about what my students need so that is all i have for you guys today if you like this video be sure to give it a thumbs up if you haven't yet be sure to hit subscribe don't forget to follow me on instagram and as always thank you so so much for your support and i'll catch you guys in the next one [Music]
