Toyota RF 4 hybrid Honda CRV hybrid and Lexus NX 350h which one should you buy that's what we're going to find out welcome to Car Corner where we help you the consumer Master the process of car buying and car ownership I'm going to compare three popular hybrid SUVs to see which one makes the most sense to buy the Toyota ra 4 Honda CRV and Lexus NX are all arguably really good choices if you want a reliable well-made and value packed SUV but there is one that does Stand Out above the others as being especially good but before we get into it remember if you enjoy and get value out of this video make sure to subscribe and turn on notifications now the reason why I've chosen the hybrid version of each SUV is because I do believe that it makes the most sense to go for in the case of all three vehicles the hybrid option is around $2 to $3,000 more expensive than the equivalent non-hybrid and for all the additional benefits that you're getting I do think that it's a real no-brainer now let's let's start with the Rav 4 Toyota has kept the updates to a minimum for 2024 and that's because we're most likely going to get an all new design in the real near future but the current R 4 is still a really good vehicle to go for now if you're trying to decide between the regular ra 4 and the RAF 4 hybrid there's really no question the hybrid has a lot of major benefits over the normal version It's A lot quieter it's smoother it produces more power 219 horsepower versus 203 and of course it has much better fuel economy it's able to achieve up to around 40 MP gallon or around 6 L per 100 km which is really good fuel economy for an SUV of the size but not only is the hybrid a lot more efficient more refined and perform a lot better but you also have an excellent reputation when it comes to reliability the hybrid system used in the RAF 4 uses a naturally aspirated 4-cylinder engine that's connected to two electric motors an ecvt planetary Gear transmission and you also have a third electric motor at the back wheels which gives you electric all-wheel drive as I've said in my other videos this is an extremely well-proven hybrid system that Toyota has now been using for so many years that the reliability has pretty much been perfected which makes this an excellent SUV to buy for long-term ownership and keep for upwards of 10 to 15 years and not worry about having any major problems Toyota really is at the top of the pack when it comes to hybrid technology and they have it figured out more so than almost any other brand but even though the RAF 4 hybrid is a very good SUV there are a few things that the CRV hybrid does a little bit better I've spent a week behind the wheel of all three SUVs and after hopping out of the RAF 4 into the CRV it did feel like a noticeable upgrade in a few important ways compared to the Rav 4 the CRV does does have a slightly more solid feel to it it has a quieter interior a slightly smoother ride and even though Toyota has been making hybrids longer than anybody else Honda is really not that far behind the hybrid system that's used in the CRV has been around for a decade or so and has proven to be extremely reliable like the RAF 4 it uses a naturally aspirated 4-cylinder engine that comes connected to two electric motors but unlike the Rav 4 the CRV doesn't not have a transmission instead it has a system of clutches which engage and disengage the engine and electric motor to mimic the same effect of a transmission it also has a traditional mechanical all-wheel drive system with a drive shaft and a rear differential so it will require a little bit more maintenance and potential long-term repairs when compared to the simple electric all-wheel drive on the RAF 4 even so Honda's hybrid system is really effective it has very simil similar fuel economy to the Rav 4 hybrid similar power with around 203 horsepower and 247 pbft of torque and if anything it's even more refined like Toyota's hybrid system the transition when the engine is turning on and off as you drive is absolutely seamless and if anything it's even smoother because it doesn't have that droney CVT feel that you get with the Toyota system instead Honda has programmed their hybrid system to mimic the feeling of Chang gears as you drive and accelerate which is really nice so the major takeaway is this the R 4 hybrid is very good no major complaints but the CRV hybrid does feel like a noticeable step up a step up in terms of overall refinement it's a little bit more smoother it's a little quieter and just feels a little bit more polished overall but it's not quite as polished and as much of a step up as the NX 350h now some of you might be wondering what exactly is a luxury SUV doing in this comparison test well if you have the money to spend on a fully loaded top-of-the line RAF 4 hybrid or CRV hybrid you're actually getting very close in price to an entrylevel Lexus NX so the comparison is not as strange as some might think the 350h has a very similar hybrid system that's used in the Rav 4 hybrid only because it has more powerful electric motors it does produce an extra 20 horsepower 239 horsepower instead of 219 having that little bit of extra power is nice but what's really nice is that it doesn't come at the expense of fuel economy you get very similar fuel economy to the other two SUVs which is really great to see now some might be wondering whether the hybrid efficiency is ruined by the fact that it needs premium gas but the nx350 doesn't actually require premium gas it's only recommended which means that you can get a away with using regular gas just like the other two SUVs which is really good and that means you get all the same amazing benefits of the Rav 4 the efficiency the low operating cost and the same great reliability only in a more refined and more comfortable package and that's what's really nice about the NX it's an extremely quiet and comfortable SUV to drive definitely more so than the other two although one thing I have to admit that I don't really care for is the fact that the X does come with run flat tires which means you don't get a spare it also means that the tires do wear out a little bit faster they're going to be a little bit noisier and more expensive to replace so if it were me if I were buying an NX I would just replace the Run Flats with normal tires when it comes to tire replacement time you also don't get a spare tire with the CRV hybrid and the only one in this Trio that actually comes with a proper spare tire is the RAV 4 hybrid which some will be really happy to see so the bottom line is this even though the NX is mechanically very similar to the RAF 4 it is definitely not just a Toyota with a little bit of Polish it feels like a significant Step Up in many ways and it's definitely worth the price premium and of course that also goes for the interior compared to the other two the NX has a much nicer interior it just feels much higher quality with nice finishes nicer thin finish and you also have more color options available and that's really where you're spending the extra money if you want an SUV that just feels more expensive is more comfortable and has higher build quality then the Lexus is really the one to go for you also get some upgrades in terms of the technology the NX has a much larger touchcreen although the user interface is basically the same one that's used in the RAF 4 now even though the interior of the NX is obviously vious L that of a luxury SUV the interior of the CRV is actually not too far behind the build quality and fit finish is still really impressive and you still get a lot of Great Tech you have a really good touchscreen infotainment system that's really easy to use you have a very straightforward control setup and you have lots of really good storage space and it's a similar story with the interior of the Rav 4 although perhaps not quite as nice as the CRV this is still a very functional inter interior with straightforward controls a good touchscreen infotainment system and a lot of storage space it's definitely not the fanciest interior in the class but I really don't have any significant complaints with this one or really any one of them now in terms of storage interior space in the front and rear seats and the cargo space the Rav 4 and the NX are very similar and both are perfectly practical SUVs and should do the job perfectly fine for most buyers but the interior of the CRV does feel like a step up it is noticeably roomier in the front and back seats and also has a roomier more spacious cargo area than the other two so if you're ultimately looking for the most practical SUV in this group there's no question it's going to be the CRV when it comes to safety though all three of these are really solid SUVs they're all rated top safety picks by the IHS and they also come standard with a lot of active safety technology so all three are really good in that respect and now I think it's time to get into the pricing and find out which is the best one to buy now the Rav 4 hybrid is the value leader in the group it's priced from around 33 to 42,000 us or around 38 to 49,000 Canadian and then we have the CRV hybrid which is priced from around 35 to 42,000 us or around 48 to 51,000 Canadian and that higher pricing is due to the fact that unlike the Rav 4 hybrid which is available in every single trim you can only get the CRV hybrid in the more expensive top trims but no surprise the most expensive one is the NX 350h which goes between 45 to 55,000 us or around 55 to 70,000 Canadian so here's the situation with these three if you're ultimately looking for the best value for your money and you're just looking for an SUV that's a little bit more on the utilitarian side and you don't necessarily need to have the fan iest features or the fanciest interior then I really think the Rav 4 hybrid is the Best Buy it's not super fancy but it is still a very very good SUV and you're still getting the amazing efficiency reliability and resale value which is exactly what you would expect buying an SUV like this and then on the other end of the spectrum we have the NX 350h which is the better choice for somebody that prioritizes Comfort having a higher quality quality nicer interior more style and just a more luxurious feel now that might sound like a kind of obvious thing to say but the point is this the NX does feel like a substantial upgrade over the other two SUVs here and if you are considering a fully loaded R 4 hybrid or CRV hybrid then it might be worth just spending the little bit of extra money and going with the NX and that brings us to the CRV hybrid which in many ways is the real sweet spot in this Trio compared to the raav 4 it's just more comfortable quieter and more refined with more interior space and cargo space but without being as expensive as the NX compared to the Toyota and Lexus it really feels like Honda is giving you that perfect Middle Ground between the other two and it has to be said another great bonus that you get with the CRV is much better availability unlike the Lexus and Toyota which tend to have extremely long waiting periods and you're more likely to face things like dealer markups and dealer add-ons you're most likely not going to have to deal with any of that nonsense with the CRV hybrid so as a whole even though you really can't go wrong choosing any one of these SUVs they're all really good choices at the end of the day if I had to pick a winner it would be the CRV hybrid but only slightly so there you have it now after watching this video which of these three SUVs would you go for for let me know in the comments and if you enjoyed this video make
