hey everyone and welcome to the channel so for today's head-to-head comparison we're going to take a look at the 2024 Hyundai Santa Cruz and the 2024 Ford Maverick now both of these smaller sized trucks have a very similar MSRP we have an seal for the Santa Cruz starts right around $32,000 and the XLT for the Maverick starts right around $30,000 now there are different trim levels so that price will vary but for today's comparison these are very similar so we are going to start off with what powers both of these smaller size pickups for the Ford Maverick this is powered by a 2 L 4cylinder turbo it's paired to an 8-speed automatic pumping out 250 horsepower 277 LBT of torque this specific model is all-wheel drive as well and then for the Santa Cruz this is powered by a 2 1/2 L 4 cylinder so this is not a turbo it is paired to an 8-speed automatic pumping out 191 horsepower 181 LBT of torque this model is all-wheel drive as well as far as their curb weights go you're looking at 3700 lb for the Maverick 3900 lb for the Santa Cruz 0 to 60 time is 6 seconds for the Ford Maverick it's going to be closer to 6 and 1/2 maybe 7 seconds for the Santa Cruz and those numbers will vary of course just depending on how you are driving top speed is 110 mph for the Ford 133 for the Santa Cruz and then as far as fuel economy goes because that is going to be a big selling feature for this smaller sized truck 22 MP gown in the city for the Maverick 29 out on the highway and then 21 and 25 for the Santa Cruz now as we work our way to the exterior styling we have completely different looks as you can tell for the Maverick it's a little bit more squared off you'll notice with the grill right in the middle we have some sharp edges on both sides plenty of cutouts though to provide Cooling and then the grill also works its way into the headlight housings on both sides there's more cutouts down below with the plastic bumper and then a tow hook on both sides for the Hyundai you'll notice that the headlights are actually integrated into the entire Grill itself so while it's integrated on the mavric it's basically the entire grill for the Hyundai so all the lights are actually in the grill itself with the trim accents on both sides there's fog lights for the Hyundai plastic in the lower section and then cutouts as well and you'll notice a little bit more boxed off for the entire roof or the hood there for the Maverick and then some very subtle lines for the Maverick so very very different for their front end appearance and as we work our way to the sides now you'll notice that the Maverick actually doesn't really have any fender flares it's actually integrated into the Bodywork itself whereas on the Hyundai we have the plastic Fender arches for the front and the rear as well as the entire Lower Side skirt there there is some over on the Maverick as well and then wheel options are going to vary just depending on the trim level that you go with now for the Santa Cruz there's a turn signal in the bodyc colored mirrror no turn signal for the Maverick there some very nice roof lines though and then the Hyundai actually has a sunroof I'm not sure which trim level will give you a sun roof on the Maverick but as we take a step back now and compare the side profiles you'll notice a little bit more boxed off as you saw up front so the rear end has a very vertical line to it here and these are both relatively short Vehicles we do have an integrated spoiler on the back of the Santa Cruz and roof racks as well but they're pretty short we'll say the Maverick is a little bit shorter in its overall height I am 5' 10 and my chin is just above the roof line there so these are relatively small vehicles of course and then as far as the bed sizes go so for the Ford Maverick you're looking at 54 in for the bed length 48 in for the Santa Cruz so you do get a little bit more bed space in the back of this vehicle and as far as Towing goes you're looking right around 4,000 lb for the Maverick and 3500 lb for the Santa Cruz but in the back of the Maverick that is stamped in the lower section of the tailgate this does have a backup camera as well and then there's a spray and bed liner with some storage on one side there's also an auxiliary and then some tie down hooks where you can place in some items there's also some indentions there where you can place some tools or anything that you need so pretty practical for what it is and for the Hyundai Santa Cruz is in the lower section there's actually a bed step on both sides which is pretty neat to see there's no hitch on this model but like I said you can opt to get the hitch if you'd like and then you'll notice to a different design for the tail lights and the electronic release for that tailgate now this particular model does have a cover installed there's also the Bed Extender too and there's even storage underneath the floor now I'm not sure how exactly this is fully removed but for what I can show you at least today there is a lot of space underneath the floor so if you need additional room I'm sure this releas is very easily you can put in space underneath the floor I think that is a fantastic design for this pickup so that way it makes it more usable you can place items underneath and then also put some items on the top of course now let's work our way to the interior now for this Ford Maverick this does not have a smart key so we do have the turn key along with having to lock and unlock the vehicle although it does get remote start which is very cool to see now for this interior you'll notice the two-tone for the door panel along with this orange color on the release handle there's clock seats and then it's basically a very small size SUV so as far as getting into it it's not all that hard now here's the turnkey and we'll start this up I will have a full review for this particular Ford Maverick down in the description so I'll go over this fairly quickly here but we have the leather steering wheel with your controls for volume you have cruise control and then you have menu that you can go through for this gauge cluster so you can scroll through this information and you have a good bit that you can look at as far as some of your averages here you can pull up the menu and go through all of these settings just anything that you'd like to pull up not a whole lot of info but it's nice that you can configure it and see the info that you would like now on this left side there is a trailer braking system all the headlight adjustments and then we have the small screen here a little bit of storage on the one side and this is a very basic screen so this is pretty much all that you get to go through you have your volume adjustments you can adjust the infotainment system there slightly if you want to all the climates are laid out very nicely and I'm actually surprised with the amount of storage that you have up front it's actually very versal this is the rotary dial to put the vehicle into reverse and drive you have your electronic parking brake and then a few different driving modes too this is an all-wheel drive vehicle so there's no four-wheel drive controls but this vehicle will adjust depending on the mode that you are in which is nice there's traction control your brake hold downhill assist as well as the engine start stop and then you have a decent amount of space in both the glove box and the armrest there and I have around five or six in of headro up front while this is a small vehicle the roof line or the headliner is actually very tall so you could be taller than me and still be comfortable in the front seat so it's actually very surprising for how low that roof line is it gives you a decent amount of space now for the Hyundai we do have a smart key for this model so it is a push button we do have remote start as well and then there's even a control for the tailgate where you can release that now you'll notice the door panel is a little bit more of a traditional design with the solid armrest and all of your window controls and then storage down below and then this is a little bit higher so on the Ford Maverick you actually stepped over and down you are just going to step up for this and then we can bring this one to life where we have the steering wheel with all of your cruise control settings there's even the lane keeping assist and then you have controls for the digital gauge cluster so you can pull up a little bit more information than you can on the Maverick it's not a ton more but you do have some icons that you can scroll through just to look at which is nice and then on this left side there's your a bed light you have traction control and then a larger screen that's a little bit easier to go through but it offers a lot more with all of these different icons that you can scroll through there's even some buttons down below where you can further get into all of this information and then all the climates are laid out very nicely with another LCD screen so you can go through all of those and then there's a lot of auxiliaries down below wireless charging for the Hyundai and then we have a more traditional gear selector for your backup camera as well as drive and being able to change gears now this model also has a center locking differential so if you do take this off the pavement you have that and you do have a few different Drive modes in here as well so you have normal sport smart and even a snow mode if you need to use it there's a downhill assist a shortcut to the camera system so you can pop that up as well as having heated front seats you have storage in the armrest there as well as in the glove box and a little bit more traditional of a design you'll notice in the Ford Maverick how much lower the center area was as far as going all the way down to the floor so a little bit more traditional here there's a sunroof up top with all the dome lights and I have a little bit less headro it's closer to 2 or 3 in I'd say about half the amount of Headroom up front as on the Ford Maverick but visibility as you saw on the Maverick is about the same so very different Interiors just a a different layout of course for everything and now let's talk about the back seats because this is a very small pickup truck so how do these back seats hold a person at 5'10 we got the traditional door panel there you can also fold up these seats and both of them are individual so the bucket goes all the way to the opposite side there so you can lock that other seat up if you need to and at my height with the front seat set at my height I have plenty of room now right in the middle there's nothing so there's just the the indention there but I have about the same as up front 2 3 in of Headroom this has a manual sliding rear glass and the seats recline just a little bit so they're not vertical which is nice this is actually pretty comfortable it's almost more comfortable than a midsize pickup truck which is surprising to see with how small these vehicles are but for the Ford Maverick biggest difference that you will notice is that the entire bench folds up as one so you still get a good bit of storage space just like in the Hyundai except you can lift everything up at once and then with the front seat set at my height again similar amount of space however there's auxiliaries in the back and you even get an armrest with two cup holders now for this particular model this is a solid window so there's no cutout in it and I have three 4 in of Headroom seats reclin about the same as the Santa Cruz so honestly pretty identical for back seat space so with the exteriors as well as the Interiors wrapped up for both of these smaller size pickups let's get them both out on the road and see how they compare so as we set off behind the wheel for the Hyundai Santa Cruz now let's pop it over into the manual setting from second gear here we go and I'd say it has an adequate amount of power this shifter is very responsive so if you're happen to If you happen to be towing or maybe you're off the pavment using that Center lock you can use this to shift and if you slow down you'll notice too that we will start to downshift but if I give it some gas now it's actually going to hold in fourth gear so you can use this to hold the gear as well if you don't want this to shift that's pretty common for a lot of pickup trucks just to help you with Towing situations and things like that you're not going to be towing a lot with this model but it is nice that it's still a usable pickup truck this isn't someone who's buying it for towing purposes but you have the open bed you can use this to put in bicycles or you're doing Lawn Service Lawn Equipment things like that that aren't heavy just bulky items that you wouldn't put in an SUV but as far as driving this goes I do wish it had a little bit more power this is getting up to speed here so I I'm not sure if you can get a different engine for this but as far as driving it goes it seems to be very nice I do have more experience behind the wheel of the Maverick but I do like the more traditional interior for this we have just a really clean design for it and it seems to be very comfortable I don't have any issues with the suspension here going over some of these bumps this is going to ride more like an SUV so if you're looking for an SUV that happens to have a pickup on the back of it this is a good option to go with it's very quiet too for the drive that I've done today visibility is easy to see all around you can't see the tailgate or anything in the back there but you can of course see the sides of the the bed through your side view mirrors there but it's a nice place to be I can see this being a very comfortable daily driver at the end of the day it's a Hyundai I would just equivalate it to a SUV which I have driven a lot of so it's really no different than that so if you're looking for that smooth comfortable daily driving SUV ride you don't want a harsh pickup truck ride this is definitely a good option to go with and we have a lot of Technology as you've seen so it would definitely make for a great daily but now let's hop behind the wheel of the Ford Maverick and see the difference all right and in the Ford Maverick we don't have any shifters or anything like that there's a low-range gear but in Drive here we go and I can notice right off of the bat having the turbocharged engine I think is definitely a benefit especially for the power and sizing of this vehicle the turbo I think is the way to go it just gives you that much more torque and acceleration to get this up to speed but as far as driving this goes it's very nice like I said I've put a lot more miles behind the wheel of the Ford Maverick and it's just as comfortable as you would expect for an SUV so just equivalate this to like a Ford Escape with a pickup on the back turning radius is also very tight so both of these trucks are going to be incredibly maneuverable especially if you live in a city you know you need a you need the utility of a pickup truck but you live in a city where you need a small vehicle so it's easy to park in certain situations I can see the appeal to these vehicles for for situations like that but for this interior now you'll notice that it is different we have a much different layout for everything so really just boils down to a personal preference in what you like better what you feel more comfortable in you do have a lot more Headroom in the Maverick which is nice to see but it's just as quiet I really can't feel any differences between this and the Santa Cruz driving them back to back like this it's it's what you'd expect for this style vehicle so it's nice that they've made them very comfortable for daily driving and now back from the test drives between the Hyundai Santa Cruz and the Ford Maverick honestly these are both very very competitive smaller size pickup trucks so it's nice that there are two options available depending on if you like the Hyundai better or you like the Ford better personally I would probably go with the Ford just because of the turbo engine I think it has an adequate amount of power for this sizing vehicle I do wish that the the Hyundai had a turbo option maybe they will at some point but for the Ford Maverick a little bit higher towing capacity you do have a little bit more Headroom however we have a more traditional design for that Hyundai so if you like the traditional gear selector and just the layout of that design I do like that a little bit better so it's kind of a tossup but I I would think I would pick the Ford just because of the engine option alone but it's really cool that we have two very small vehicles that are very capable as well something that's going to do pretty well as far as MPG goes and still gives you the same uses as a pickup truck just in a little bit smaller of a form but comment down below would you rather have the Hyundai Santa Cruz or the Ford Maverick let me know which one and why and if you enjoyed today's video
