[Music] [Music] the 2024 Ford Maverick this vehicle's been on the market for several years and at this point we know a lot about it and it is still incredibly popular despite its long list of recalls when this vehicle was first introduced in 2022 being built in 21 it was famous for the fact that it was a affordable truck that started allegedly under $20,000 which basically didn't exist in the market Ford was trying to build a compelling economy car that didn't feel like a box to drive around in and you could get it with two reasonably compelling drivetrains the 2 L Ecoboost or the 2.5 L Hybrid drivetrain setup which is found in other Ford products the main difference being horsepower and fuel economy these engines or drivetrain options are available across every trim level of Maverick now before we talk about the trim levels I'm quickly walk you through the the drive drains further the hybrid option only comes as front-wheel drive it makes less than 200 horsepower but what you get in its place other than a lovely ecvt is excellent fuel economy to me the Hybrid drivetrain makes the most sense in this vehicle for the most amount of people yes you lose out in the ability to tow Max Towing 2,000 lb you still maintain A500 PB payload rating but what you get is 37 38 MP gallon the highway in the real world I'm getting high 30s all day long the ecoboost engine makes a hell of a lot more power 250 horsepower way more torque but what you lose out is fuel economy it gets 22 in the city high 20s Highway in the real world it's somewhere in between the reason you go with the EcoBoost other than the fact that it allows you to option in all the off-road options it's its ability to tow if you get the 4,000 lb towing package it can tow 4,000 lb now let's down break down the pricing options the XL is the base trim level it starts at 238 and some change it basically comes with no options in the real world very very few dealers stock xcel's everyone carries xlts the XLT start in the mid 20s again same deal base engine is the 2 L ecoboost engine $1,500 for the hybrid if you go with the EcoBoost you can then option in two different all-wheel drive setups for the XLT you can add a total of essentially $6,000 for the Tremor package which comes with coolers skid plates a lift kit different wheels and tires some appearance pieces or just the regular on demand all-wheel drive setup the Tremor package has a torque Factor re diff and essentially all the capabilities that you're used to out of the Bronco Sport off-road variants if you're looking for a small capable off-roader that's the one to get however in the real world if you're being honest most people just need a mass transportation vehicle the Hybrid drivetrain the vehicle were behind or in front of forgive me has the XLT hybrid package with the Luxe interior lock interior is what I would pick it's a $2,000 and Change option you get heated seats heated seing a powered front seat and a couple other niceties it's not a lot of money you combine that with the Ford safety Suite which is about 650 bucks it balloons the price to $32,000 that is a substantial price increase over when this car first came out a couple years ago you get essentially the same truck for 27 Grand the top trim level is the lariat it starts at 34 and change you can add the Tremor package it comes with all-wheel drive standard with the EcoBoost variant however you can still option in the hybrid and basically all the same options appear other than the Luxe package is standard and you get some other niceties like 18-inch wheels that's the price breakdown of the truck to me The Sweet Spot is the thing behind us for 32 Grand you get a small capable little utility vehicle that has a 4 and 1 12T bed highly modular interior with lots of storage in the doors and that's what you sort of need to know in the shop of the Ford Maverick and we're going to do our best to summarize all of the running costs and issues with this vehicle as of today we're underneath an XLT hybrid as I talked about earlier but essentially everything we're going to talk about is applicable to both models let's start with consumable costs starting with tires two different wheel sizes for this vehicle 17s or 18s the 17s are like 225s and 18s are essentially the same size you can either get these with traditional tires or Offroad tires the actual costs though regardless of Tire model are between $800 to little less than $11,000 it's pretty common for this price point of vehicle at this point to to be in that price range brakes the rotors themselves are pretty cheap you're looking at 100 a corner 130 bucks a corner CVS are also fairly inexpensive which are a common consumable point for this vehicle the CVS are less than $200 other thing to talk about are struts the other big consumable cost over the lifetime of the the vehicle as of today as this is a relatively new product they're under 200 a corner so imagine it less than $1,000 for a complete set of shocks for this car again these prices are probably going to come down as the supply becomes more plentiful and this vehicle's on the market for a longer period of time the 2 L ecoboost engine is fairly synonymous now with Ford there are lots of parts of the vehicle they're Fairly reliable if you want to tune this thing to the hillt and make north of 250 horsepower you're more than capable of doing that the 2.5 hybrid CVT relatively reliable at this point other than some tsp issues which we're going to talk about in recalls the main thing is the battery cost the hybrids come with a very small 1.1 KW battery the current factory cost for replacement before Labor is little north of $2,000 however because this vehicle's been on the market for a little bit you can get used packs out of wrecked Mavericks for about $1,000 now what about the tsps and and recalls associated with them well there are quite a few of them and you can blame Ford's quality Department in their factories but the really big one currently uh is the fuel Vapor issue uh or oil Vapor issue which is causing engine fires and they've tried to address this once already and they are now on to their second recall is this going to be a problem for you maybe I know quite a few Maverick Gunners and they haven't had the issue friend of mine who owns essentially this exact vehicle from 2023 has a fire extinguisher in his door but you know will that spoil your potential ownership this vehicle yeah if there's an engine fire it probably will be fine it'll be covered under warranty and you won't have to worry about it and you can view it as it added spice to your life that little bit of excitement that you may be missing from your day-to-day life this truck is assembled in Mexico and has a ly of quality related headaches from things not fitting correctly to bad gearboxes it's basically just chicken ship problems is that excusable for a brand that's been around for over a 100 years and builds north of a million Vehicles a year probably not it's a problem again should this dissuade you from buying a Maverick maybe maybe not but I just want to point that out um with that though let's go take this for a quick [Music] drive setting off in the Maverick XLT hybrid front wheeel drive Dynamics ecvt oh yeah traction control coming in hard look I had the pleasure of driving essentially every trim level of the Maverick at this point I've spent time in the front wheeel drive EcoBoost I've spent time in the all-wheel drive variants and Mark and I have done videos on this hybrid version and given what most of the people I've met are looking for in a vehicle like this I do feel very strongly that the hybrid version with the Lux package and the XLT is the happy medium it gets great fuel economy again on the highway low 30s around town high 30s almost 40 m per gallon and despite its clear you know ecar routs and all the hard plastics everywhere it doesn't feel like a total box there's a good sense of airiness there's a sense of Charisma to the inside of this and there's a inherent charm with all of its utility what I will say is when this thing came out at $27,000 you know a couple years ago when the pricing was that you could forgive a lot of its deficiencies from a Dynamics perspective and even reliability perspective but now that this thing's $32,000 with destination feel like people's expectations are going to go up mine have and given all of the reliability issues and and the recalls you're asking a lot of a new customer now to accept you know all of these problems um honestly you can leave it up to you but it's in my vision it's fairly embarrassing that a company like Ford that sells as many cars as they do and has been around you know since the very beginning of cars still has reliability and quality issues that other brands don't have my my only real counterargument against this thing still today other than the things we've just talked about is if you don't need the bed and you just are looking for cheap Transportation particularly at $332,000 even the high or mid 20s there are better options things like the Civic sport hatch has a bigger interior space it rides better than this it has a better interior space it handles better you know the reason you still want to Maverick today at least in my my approximation is you need that extra utility if you do not and you just want a cheap car to roll around in I think there are better options and I think I'm going to leave it at that so with that thanks for watching and I hope to see you [Music] soon
