2024 CHINESE GP: DRAMA at FERRARI!

goodday from Shanghai where there's plenty of drama in the Ferrari Camp following the Sprint race did you catch the race today was intriguing 19 laps of high quality action including an interesting occurrence on lap 17 when charl lir was pushed off track by Carlos sits they came together at The Hairpin with a break from some I don't know 320 K an hour down to 6070 to get round that tight bent Carlos pushed charl wide and of course Char's gone berserk over the radio used a bit of harsh language which you can understand In the Heat of the Moment but how will that debrief be well I think it'll be quite spicy and are we likely to find out the results of that debrief probably not I guess the pr people will go to bat and say yes we've had a chat and we've worked it out and everything's fine but of course you've got Carlos who leaves the team at the end of the year and really if he's in the wrong which many say he is it's pretty hard to discipline someone who's leaving a team he may well think he's been hard done by with that decision I think it's fair to say that Carlos is looking to impress other teams and in a situation like this he gets his elbows out and shows that he's not afraid of fighting hard maybe that's a bonus point for the Spanish driver I think it makes it a little bit tricky uh for team events where the two drivers get together and have to peer quite P if indeed uh this is something that could carry on for days or weeks I had a chat with a journalist today who's probably a little bit closer to this issue than I am and he said that this friction between Carlos and charl has been going on for some time but it's just kept very Under Wraps at the team then I spoke to Ferrari who told me that um no indeed if there's ever an issue it's sorted out very quickly what do you think but now that it's been brought out in the open things may get a little bit spicier Char's normally pretty plaa but he definitely thought he was hard done by today so let's talk about the race lonara started first ended up seventh at the first Corner most unfortunate for the British driver but the real interest was the battle between Fernando Alonzo and Carlos SS now I was waiting for Park F so I'm just looking at the main pit straight grandstand and then I hear this huge Roar and I hear these Roars go on for prob 20 seconds thinking what is going on well I can tell you what went on if you didn't watch the race it was Carlos and Fernando fighting and eventually after fighting each other so hard Sergio perz just slipped underneath and passed them both out on the grid before the race a couple of things these marvelous shoes of Jo Guan new and the Ferrari towels which have the Prancing horse beautifully embroided a couple of you have asked how does the Sprint grid differ from a race grid well in brief no national anthem no grid kids hardly any celebrities the cars don't do multiple laps before coming onto the grid they just go out of the pit Lane and come straight out on the grid yes the drivers nip out for a quick wee before the race starts but in general it's just a scale down down grid for a scaled down race of course the end result was vasten Hamilton Perez and the three cars stopped on track and the drivers got out and acknowledged the crowd before heading into pit Lane where they did the interviews when Lewis got up to speak he did a quick knee how to the crowd well that sent them into raptures they thought that was marvelous it was a good crowd it wasn't 100% full in the stands and certainly up at turn one there were plenty of empty seats despite the fact that this race has been a sellout if we hark back to yesterday's crowd this was the site at the what that second last turn uh going back 5 years ago this was the crowd a huge difference getting back to those top three in park F I caught both Sergio and Max having a chat at one stage and then Sergio and Lewis and then Max and Lewis it was all very chatty it appeared that Lewis was delighted to be back up in that top three and boy it's been a little while interesting to see tomorrow race day whether or not it's full and as Lewis has often done he spent probably a minute and a bit having a good look around the Red Bull carard just trying to ascertain why they are so darn good a couple things about arrivals this morning Sergio perz all smiles lovely to see him with a smile on his face valry botas he came in and gave me the two thumbs up well I think he meant that for you guys watching and Max fappen was met by no less than seven Red Bull marketing social media people he was given a bag with a couple of hats in it and then made his way into the garage now today I spotted Joe G with security he's very popular in this country obviously in a lot of these people who are sitting in the stands have come just to see him but certainly at most other races um he doesn't need security and sometimes he's not even noticed this young lady was interestingly dressed she has a bikini on although over the top is this mesh outfit and she was very popular down in pit Lane but my gosh later on the afternoon when that sun went away it was pretty darn cold so I hope she brought an Overcoat now let's jump to qual I thought it was fascinating for a couple of reasons for q1 I was over at the lily pad Grand stands taking shots of cars with water Reflections in the foreground that was quite nice and nothing of any note happened there and for the second session I wandered up and took this angle rear shot Grand stands pit straight in the background and I was richly rewarded because Carlos SS came off in no uncertain terms put a wheel off into the gravel spun kicked up a hell of a lot of smoke so much smoke that the camera had no idea what to focus on but when that smoke settled I couldn't believe how far down the track he was and pointing the wrong way I actually did something for about 30 seconds and popped my head up and he was gone I'm thinking well that was way too quick for a crane to lift him and sure enough he'd actually taken off and done a full lap in order to come into the pits and you can see here the car looks dramatically different without a front wing on a positive note well done to Niko hulkenberg P9 they brought an upgrade to this race and clearly it has done wonders and he's pretty happy niik saw him afterwards being interviewed by Sky Germany and of course Fernando Alonzo was in the top three and on his way to the park F area he stopped sought out his crew gave him a hug thanked them very much for their help and then also acknowledged the crowd and what has he got in his hand uh I think that's probably his weight given to him on a piece of paper by the FIA they use a small set of scales which they position on the track and for those of you who as yet haven't heard this is Alex albon's helmet with the panda on it I love it I do think though that having qual straight after the race well a couple of hours in between it was a bit of an anticlimax we had this great Sprint race and really they never that exciting most of the times just people accept where they start as where they're going to finish but you know that was a ripper race and an anticlimax for qualy in the afternoon I'm back here at the Sheran hotel and behind me Oscar piastri has uh delighted a number of fans stopping for uh selfies and autographs as he HS back from the track hello Oscar how are you nice to have you on my blog but cheers how are you are you our Orlando fans or Oscar Lando L this reminds me of a very Placid uh high at hotel in Mexico City and in that instance there's hundreds of people in the foyer but here's Bono from um Mercedes and he's well he's back here signing a few autographs and posing for selfies the thing is that these people all have to stay behind that black line down there they're not supposed to move over there and um in general they're compliant and before I leave you I just want to point out what merchandise sells for here you can get one of these Merk hats for $89 or if you like a t-shirt 128 us it's a fair ask isn't it but they are lovely quality well I think I can say we're set for another Max fappen Victory tomorrow here he should win by 30 seconds I reckon Sergio end up second I think so and would you back Fernando Alonzo for third well I think you might be wasting your money because I think there's very little chance of him ending up there he has very good one laap pace but certainly people in the team think that he'll need a heck of a lot of luck to finish in third
