foreign [Applause] [Music] ER YouTube Channel video this is the brand new 2024 Porsche Cayenne I have a long history with cayenne from even one of the first ones to ever come in America my mother actually owned all the way up to now Generations later I've driven pretty much every single version of it over the years and now this is the new e 3.2 is what it's called or the e32 and um a huge more than just a facelift a lot going on here this particular one is the plug-in hybrid version paired with the V6 turbocharged engine it has an eight-speed torque converter Auto about 178 ish horsepower powering the electric motor pre-transmission what I'm gonna do is kind of take you on a quick tour of this car the reason I'm kind of rushing through is we only have two hours with it I was doing range testing all morning brought it here to a charge Point Station had the fastest lunch ever added about 40 state of charge to the battery after the range test now it's time to test as much as possible people on the new Cayenne in two hours so that's what we're doing in this video we're going to test push buttons do different drivetrain stuff figure everything out about this thing that we can but again we only have two hours let's do it well we just unplugged and finished charging let me show you inside the charging port here this is a euro spec cayenne and we're in Santa Monica right now so this was flown over here for reviews and thankfully Porsche let us have it for the day today I have this type 1 to type 2 adapter right here and that works out pretty well actually we're actually charging I should point this out we're charging wow I'm getting attacked by the door we're charging by a beam charging uh station it's not grid connected at all totally solar powered fills either a 20 or 30 or 40 kilowatt hour battery pack and um a really cool cool solution I guess it tells you when the battery is low right here when this light turns on but I think it would be nice to have a little display knowing the state of charge of the battery pack in here or how many kilowatt hours that it could actually dispense might be even more useful enough about charging infrastructure we're always nerding out I got to make a video with one of these someday maybe while we're out here in California I'll do that let's jump inside the Cayenne actually you guys stay out there I'm just going to pull it out into the sun start button woman in the Prius is ripping uh interesting I started it up combustion engines on but it says e-power in the past it's actually started in e-power and hasn't turned on the combustion engine but that's okay Let's uh move it up over this way and I want to take you on a quick tour of this thing so off we go down to this end of the parking lot so my guess is that it probably started the combustion engine because when I parked it I parked it in Sport Plus so I'm going to take you on a tour of all the drive modes here in a second but let's go through this the spec the options everything on here again a Euro spec in Algarve blue I think is how you pronounce it I'll put the text right here as to the name of the blue I'll pop the hood let's show you what's going on under here no roof rails on this particular one which I think is a mistake you really should spec your Cayenne especially the long roof non-coupe version with the roof rails I think it'll make the entire car under the hood we have actually not much going on here so we have a V6 3 liter twin turbo engine under here you have some Volkswagen Audi group Bosch ecu's over here we have our coolant fill and I'm not really even seeing many high voltage components you can see your brake lines over here your booster everything like that we'll talk about how the brakes operate because it's pretty interesting but um of course this the Cayenne comes in a few different trims for 2024 in America we're gonna have the base Cayenne which is this engine without any of the electric bits it'll be the Cayenne P have or plug-in hybrid which is this and I'll walk you through the specs really juicing plug-in hybrid if you haven't yet take a look at the range test I just completed on this car it's on out of spec reviews 44 miles all electric uh driving normally like around La it was amazing so huge range out of this thing 21.7 kilowatt hour usable 25.9 kilowatt hour gross so nice buffers on there as well this thing is pretty cool this drivetrain will walk you through more specs then you get the Cayenne S which is going to be kind of like the Enthusiast Choice it has the four liter V8 in the Cayenne S now which is good so the S gets another V8 gonna sound really nice haven't driven it looking forward to sampling it no turbo or Turbo S yet also no turbo or Turbo S with electrification yet like we've seen previously I don't know if they'll come down the line but it would be really cool to see this plug-in system paired with the juicier V8 engine at some point in the future those are always pretty cool models and then the Top Model is the turbo GT which is Coupe only Nurburgring lap record setting car and other than the facelift stuff that car just got a little bit different tire package for 2024 and that's 189 thousand dollars something like that this uh specked nicely I'm not going to really quote too many prices because it's the cool thing about Porsche is they always let you spec it however you want so basically you're going to be 90 to 120 I think for a nice one a really nice one at 120. um for kind of everything you would want on the car and you can go base and you know that's probably how dealers will order them with Premium Pack or Premium Plus Pack and that's fine but the plug-in hybrid seems to be the one to go for no tax credit because final assembly isn't in America however if you lease it there still might be that tax credit loophole depending on when they come in the thing is the timing on the plug-in hybrid is going to be the rough situation the standard cayenne and the Cayenne S or maybe the S and the Turbo GT I don't actually remember but those will be launching pretty much now when this video goes up you'll be able to go to a dealer and inventory is going to start rolling in the plug-in hybrid won't be till later this year September October November something like that it's definitely worth waiting for the new one though from a technology standpoint and an improvement to the electrification so if you're in the market for a new Cayenne plug-in my suggestion wait for this unless you get a smoking deal on the existing E31 chassis maybe lease that one and then go for the second here this is going to have to carry through all the way almost to 20 30. so you get in now your car is not going to look outdated for years to come many years so I think it's really a good time to get into the Cayenne there will be an electric Cayenne coming in the future as well really looking forward to this and it's actually going to be I think fairly different from this car and it's going to be sold alongside I don't think it's going to just look and feel like this and be electrified it's possible that they'll do that but I'm not convinced they will that will come out 20 25 2026 ish but before we see that Porsche is going to come out with the electric Macan and the electric sports car Baxter thing and then that will be the third one to come so there's still a long ways away until we see electric kind I think electric macon's going to be too small for a lot of people it's going to be epic it's going to Define Porsche it is such an important car for them of course ticons had huge success and we've done everything possible with taikon electric Cayenne is going to be the family electric hauler and I hope they get it right and we'll see the updates to this really are wonderful so spec on this 2024 Cayenne hybrid we've got the crazy cool European Matrix like to do all the crazy stuff they have the roadway light up they have the cut out for the cars as they come through they have anti-dazzle if you're going over bumps and stuff uh all software locked for the US you can actually option these exact headlights in the US but the functionality is pretty much limited you do get I think a startup animation would be the only thing the HD lights get you now hopefully as regulations improve that could actually be software updated and Porsche has done a pretty good job with offering function on demand and software updates over time so I think if you got the money you're going to keep the car spec the good headlights hopefully they'll be software updated Wheels there are so many to choose from it's unbelievable the ones we're on right here are the 21 inch Aero Wheels it's a plug-in hybrid specific wheel you can also get a 20 inch Aero wheel which should be slightly more efficient I think this is the right size speaking of sizing the tire size on this is Juicy I mean these are chunky meaty tires on this nice wide tires we're not looking at anything stretched anything weak really good sized wheel and tire package you can also option up to 22s not sure I would go 22s on the plug-in hybrid especially around town city potholes you want to have some off-road capability this is probably the wheel and tire package just off of looking at I have no complaints about it I think it looks really nice it does hide the very weird massive carbon ceramic brakes option on this car now I'm not always the biggest fan of carbon ceramic brakes mostly for high performance sports cars because you'll burn them up if you're really really really hard on track they are incredible if you're doing a lot of Canyon driving fast Street driving but um this is the plug-in hybrid Cayenne it can tow 7 700 pounds you can tell your race car to the track I'm not 100 sure you need Ceramics on here and you won't even be able to option it this way in the U.S for the first I assume few years of serious production so that's going to be a little bit unrepresentative of what you're able to actually buy in our market so when I discuss brake pedal feel big caveat this one has the Ceramics which I kind of wish it had the steel brakes because that's going to be what everyone's going to purchase here sizing the Cayenne is pretty much unchanged it's the exact same length as the pre-facelift all of this section is pretty much unchanged again I would option it only with the roof rails probably in Black would be my recommendation maybe in this blue you go silver roof rails glass roof I believe will be standard in the U.S this one's a non-glass roof so I already showed you the charging port but I haven't shown you the EV technical stuff so come on over here in the US we won't have the type 2 connector right here we will have a j1772 port as normal I'm really glad they didn't put a DC port on this vehicle because it's not long enough range to need to go in DC fast charger plug-in hybrid so this was the right approach they did put either a 40 or 48 amp onboard charger on here I'm not a hundred percent sure Porsche claims 11 kilowatts but then they also claim most people will get 9.6 so I'm not sure if they're saying if you hook it up to a three-phase connection which we don't have really in the US and j1772 doesn't support three-phase you'll get 11 kilowatts I think if they're claiming 11 kilowatt onboard charger it must be a 48 amp onboard charger I tried to find a charging station around just to Max it out and try I can't find any public charger around here that can do 50 amp plus and then tell me on a meter how how much power I'm getting so that will have to wait until we get a US spec car because it's a Euro spec anyway and we can really see how much power we get through this thing so probably not even something we could even do with this particular car the back of it's been nicely restyled license plates move down here very similar to the Cayenne Coupe of previous generations the tail light this is the best part I think I love this intricate tail light you can see these individual lights are these Porsche badge here and this 3d effect you can actually grab inside the letters rather than being behind that piece of plastic really nice job here if we look at the trunk space Power trunk fast no complaints you do lose slight cargo capacity with this little lip here in the plug-in hybrid over the standard Cayenne but I really don't think you're actually giving up that much I'm going to remove this charging um thing I also want to see what included what included charger they give us on here should be kind of interesting to see no so it's all Euro spec so you get your red pin you get your crazy touchscreen Android powered thing they even give you a wall outlet so this is kind of cool this one mobile connector actually can do us 120 volt 230 volt Euro stuff and you can have your your type 2 connection on here you even have your Euro Outlet so I actually didn't know that this would work cross Market that you can really bring any end of the adapter you want so this is actually cool for the guys at Porsche because they can just plug this into a wall outlet and still use the euro charging capabilities so that is actually pretty impressive again I've been using an adapter to charge on j1772 let's take a look under here what do we have well we have an Amazon Prime package we got the Euro plates for this thing anytime by the way speaking of there's a lot of license plate nerds out there I'm kind of one of them uh in Germany at least you always have your your Deutschland this refers to the location that the car is registered in s for Stuttgart go is a long word basically press operations it's like it's like 30 letters long so anything s go would be Porsche basically Stuttgart press 510 is the card number and then anything in Germany with an e on the end would be a plug-in electric vehicle so plug-in hybrid or battery electric there are certain plates where on electrics you don't have the E and if you ever see an H on the end it means it's an old timer but this is what this car will be wearing in Europe would be the Esco 510es pretty cool it's also got the smokers pack it seems like so we have uh the little cup holder smokers situations we also have what is this a mobile uh oh this is yeah so in Europe you also can't bring your own charge you have to bring your own charging cable with you around to use most of the public Chargers and that's what this is just the minor Keys cable okay cool stuff subwoofers under here floor doesn't seem to lift up at all so that's not much under floor storage but it gets the job done um let me lock this back in here really quick we again we only have two hours so I don't know how much I should tell you about the Cayenne that you probably want to or don't want to know of course one thing I haven't tried yet would be any come on lock in okay not locking in we're gonna leave it I haven't tried any of the hardcore driving stuff we've been range testing it in electric mode so I went full charged excuse me I went full charge on a wall outlet drove it all the way to zero around you know in mixed driving City highway driving fully electric and it was truly great I had a lot of range but there were a couple issues off the bat did not like the brake pedal tuning did not like the accelerator pedal tuning in electric mode in Porsches of the past if you watch my main review on out of spec reviews you'll see it there used to be a plunger underneath the accelerator pedal something and I believe it was a bottom hinged accelerator pedal I don't know why it's a top hinged maybe cayenne's always been top hinged but I need to actually research that definitely Panamera is bottom hinged and there was always a little a little false floor that would electronically come out of the ground and as you would max out your electric power you could go to the false floor easily drive around at a hundred percent power output in electric mode here I didn't feel it we got to play around with you know when does the engine kick on when you're in e-power because to me that is the plug-in hybrid anxiety it's not actually about the range or using the gas engine it's I don't want to kick on the gas engine when I'm trying to drive around town and I really don't want to kick it on under hard load that's why most plug-in hybrids drive me nuts when you go to the kick down switch it stays in electric the only way to turn on the combustion engine in that scenario is actually depress the kick down switch at the end of the accelerator pedal and now your first fire in maybe two weeks of that engine stone cold is that wide open throttle Max revs Max boost it just freaks me out and um yeah let's jump inside back seat review the front seat is set to where I need it to be so let me try back here Cayenne always needs to be roomy ah no exception here at all just wonderful space is good Headroom is good there's a little bit of recline option oh wow lots of adjustment on the recline we have a center armrest with cup holders back here two USBC ports some climate adjustments it seems really high quality climate adjustments right in the middle of this panel that's a beautiful panel yeah I actually really like this one's optioned with all this neodym sort of a satin aurum almost situation even has some gold accents inside the carbon fiber trim I like that I think it's cool adds to it Alyssa hates it so Alyssa's with me filming we're gonna go is there anything else to show in the outside of the car I should tell you specs we'll jump in and I'll run through the actual hardcore numbers that you want to see then we're gonna go test some stuff on this thing because we're now down to like an hour and a half let's go let's go through some specs I'm just going to show you this all here MSRP on the Cayenne e hybrid that we're in right now is 91.7 we have a turbocharged V6 three liter like I mentioned the engine in this case makes 300 horsepower and 309 pound-feet of torque also that's paired with the electric motor but if we look here at the base car it makes 348 horsepower and 368 pound-feet so it's definitely detuned from the standard car because you get the combined system power so at maximum in e-power mode you'll get 174 horsepower from the electric motor again pre-transmission so pre-torque multiplication and then you also get 339 pound-feet all together total system horsepower because you can't use everything all at once in all cases 463 Peak horsepower 479 pound feet of torque so what's cool is it's pretty much right on par for power with the cayenne sv8 and it makes significantly more torque combined so this should be pretty juicy we have a weight to power ratio of 11.6 pounds per horsepower but this weighs of course more than the Cayenne S so that's 10.4 pounds per horsepower honestly we'll see if it's quick enough I'm not totally sure we'll find out the only other thing to let you know about in this particular slide would be the battery pack capacity 25.9 kilowatt hours gross 21.8 usable other specs would there be anything that you would care about um let's see slightly bigger brakes than the standard car it looks like you can see 390 millimeter fronts the standard car 410 on this particular one 20 inch Aero design Wheels standard option here 295 rear this one 21's 315 rear let's see what else steel Springs standard this one has the air suspension which I recommend getting nice thing is uh pasm is standard so you do get adaptive damper as standard out of the box on new Cayenne to start it left start button right there just switch to ready we're gonna go Auto on the temperature I also want to sync the temperature I like how there's hardcore switches and knobs here different than the ticon this has a much older demographic to it I think 53 or 54 years old is the average Cayenne buyer's age they don't want to be fiddling with that tycon touch screen also the taikon touch screen is a bit annoying so I love these switches and knobs feels really nice it retains the same shifter from the tycon the little bronze shifter same as 911 and I really like it up here I think this is a nice decision to me it works great it's also better Viewpoint than the ticon is taikon's behind the wheel and hidden this I can see pretty easily let's go up on the Windows because they have some dudes racing down here in Santa Monica the instrument cluster driver experience the stuff that really matters is totally updated and changed in the new cayenne and I've spent a lot of time in the old Cayenne this is massively improved and let's start over here on the driver's display on the driver display you can configure this in so many different ways let me just take you on a couple on a quick tour so you can go more traditional 911 where you get all the gauges on here you can go with two very tycon style info heavy gauges this is my preference how I have it set right now then we can go down another one and actually get our driver assistance display here so I believe if I put it to adaptive cruise control full Inno drives available by the way it'll recognize the lane lines show us stuff around and that's this display very like autopilot style we get our map display which of course is customizable and you can you know automatic Zoom North up all of these different things and I think because it's a Euro spec car it's not picking up the maps here this is unconnected you'll see this little two lines with a slash in between it's got the Euro SIM card so it has no service here in the US and then you can go full map view over here of course and then a reduced view um so that that all is good I'm gonna put it to where I typically have it which is going to be this screen right here I have a head up display that's fully customizable as well let me just show you some of the customization on the head up display we're going to go displays Head Up Display you can go to configure user to find View and I can basically customize what I want to see in here I can put a a G-Force meter for example and plop that maybe this is how you do it I don't actually yeah okay so you just drag certain things into certain places I'm gonna put the assistant systems back over here we'll apply that we're good to go lots of settings lots of customization customization Apple carplay Android auto of course even the wireless phone charger which is really cool is cooled literally cool and so I put my phone in there it just kicked on and it says your device is fast charging wirelessly right up here a little message pops up and the fans kick on in here and I can actually feel cool air being circulated around I can't tell you how nice this is because most wireless phone chargers are wireless phone heaters and this in my impression is just a wonderful um situation to have there now the one thing is you're never going to have this compartment closed because this is where your USB ports come out of so you have this really nice high quality sliding motion two USBC ports right up here which is wonderful again all of your climate options a volume job which is so much nicer than the ticon plus and minus a really deep storage compartment right here which is good we're just you know throwing mics in there for now then we get to something not so good first of all I love the grab handles this has always been in Cayenne then it's so cool this center console there's no latch for it so if I want to like adjust my seating position this happened to me earlier that's how I know I almost spilled the drinks everywhere so it's supposed to come up and you know just I guess make it so if you're really short you can grab the wheel a little bit closer move the armrest up bad design there should be a release latch and unfortunately there just isn't in here we have a fairly not so deep console so we have keys parking phone chargers mics I don't know but that's okay maybe not so great with whatever's going on in there moving on to more stuff so we have head up display driver instrument cluster this screen is basically straight out of ticon there's nothing in here that would surprise you or do anything interesting I think other than having like lap timers which is hilarious because this car has sport Chrono I actually have taken cayenne's on the racetrack I took a bass Cayenne to a full track day at VIR once and it was awesome I have some videos buried around somewhere of us just like getting it on two wheels and really hustling it probably way too hard and it was just awesome foreign [Music] this is optional passenger display and unlike tycon you can actually watch a video on this passenger display and there's also a cool wrap or cool Distortion thing where while I'm sitting in the driver's seat I can't see it at all so there's been a few cars that shut the display off I'm thinking eqs SUV is one that has a passenger display with the hyper screen and I remember driving that car and if I looked over it would actually pause the video and shut that screen off Porsha did the better job of just making it so the driver can't see the passenger display and Porsche took us through a whole bunch of demographics this morning which I found super interesting over three quarters of a journey in cayenne's in America contain a passenger just you know 75 plus of drives are two people minimum inside of a Cayenne across all drives in 2022. how they got that data I don't know but I think it's really fascinating um you know in stuff with you know demographics of average household income and all these things just it's a older 55 average of course um wealthy demographic more or less you know pushing close to that high six seven eight hundred thousand average income somewhere around there I just thought it was pretty interesting to see some of those numbers steering wheel straight out of 911 best steering wheel in the business this one's the GT wheels a little bit smaller you can even option an Alcantara wheel in your Cayenne Nice metal shift paddles back here all the controls and everything you'll be familiar with if you've driven ticon or 911 it's all the same adaptive cruise control Lane centering Inno drive all the same as the um you know the take on here from driver assistance the activation is slightly changed there's a single button now to just turn off uh Lane keeping assist if you push and hold underneath so if you're in a back road you can do that technically you could do that in the previous cars you would just shut off all driver assistance so here they're like we'll leave all driver assistance on but you can use the bottom button which used to be the mode switch to just shut off the lane uh departure stuff which I think is the right decision because that was the only thing I wanted off and then I was turning off everything else on the end I have some mode strip mode switch of adaptive cruise control a speed limiter downhill speed control and everything full off we will just go full off for the beginning of this drive because I'm looking for driving it around town again Headroom unbelievable amount of Headroom I don't know what it would like be like with the glass roof and before we start driving do you go Cayenne Coupe or Cayenne full-size SUV Alyssa what do you think full size yeah I don't see any benefit going with the Cayenne Coupe unless it's the turbo GT I actually think it looks way worse like it just looks sad in the back and I hate koopified SUVs I don't like I'm all about you buy the car that makes you happy so if you're into the coop if you think it looks better 100 go for that you're not really giving up much you're not giving up that much storage or that much back seat room and like I'm okay with it I think you said three cubic feet yeah it was a small amount of difference but it just it's like a Cayenne get the roof rails put a Thule bar on this thing a Thule box on this thing or a Yakima and ceramic brakes and go take it to a track day like uh it's just cool to have the big box of SUV with the roof box on take it to the tractors hell yeah take it to the track day with the roof box we have traction control as a physical button right here which is great so one press puts us on PSM support if I go press and hold there we go full off as it should be and I like that this lights up when you start backing off some of the stability control way nicer than having the push and hold on the taikon like display with those touch buttons I've never been a fan of those and that's really good in terms of setting up the car there's a bunch of options of course I can use my sport Chrono here to change it from off-road E power hybrid sport to Sport Plus and what's nice is I guess as I go into each mode just to give you an example I'll go here to hybrid well let me take it out of this screen really quick yeah I'll take it out of uh hybrid into e-powered now back to hybrid take a look right here this is because I'm not in that car's control I have a few options I can put the exhaust on loud this one has the sport exhaust I can put it to e hold to hold the state of charge of the high voltage battery pack so if I know I'm driving into the city it will actually retain the state of charge and I can use that around the city and now I got to go back to pull that menu up uh and then I can put it in e-charge and e-charge will essentially run the combustion engine with the motor to charge the battery up I also have my three suspension settings right there it they are tied to vehicle height as well we're gonna go hybrid Auto and normal suspension with sport exhaust off because I think this is how most people will drive the car as we dial it up a little bit we'll probably go into sport maybe even Sport Plus we'll start changing with the ride height will start changing with the look at how many ride heights you have to choose from one two three four five ride heights that's a lot of ride height selection right there and sports exhaust system of course plenty of driver assistance stuff that we could choose from so you know if we go here to adaptive cruise control we can then say you know adjust to the route to um you know smart things communicating to other vehicles is all inner Drive stuff but there's a Euro spec car so none of it really works here anyway what it that was seemed to be as fast as I could get through all of that yeah okay let's drive it hybrid Auto okay oh and there's more there's more oh my goodness this is what happens when it's a hybrid yeah the hybrid stuff takes forever to explain because there's so much to talk about I want to talk all about the hybrid system as we're driving though but I do just want to show you there's a bunch of different menus that we can pull up here uh G meters all this stuff this is the one you want to leave it on this is tells you your percentage how much torque fill boost you're getting as well as your battery temperature which this is one of the only plug-in hybrids that tells you battery temperature if it's cold if it's hot I believe it has a resistive heater if it's really cold I don't know about cooling for the battery pack could be interesting we don't have enough time to overheat it today I don't think but I'd love to rip it in the canyons you know Spike heat into the system and see if it can cool itself down using a chiller okay other things I've configured this automatic or this manual gauge over here show me again state of charge and engine coolant temp I don't believe this car tells us oil temperature in this menu right here sadly okay we're in Drive let's go I can explain more as we drive so pulling away this car is optioned with the rear steer it's like fourteen hundred dollars fifteen hundred dollars get rear steering on your Cayenne it is so cool it changes every Driving Experience about the vehicle every little input you get more rear steer and change from the E31 Cayenne now to the E3 too this update the whole calibration of the rear steering is completely changed it's so aggressive and really fun um and it takes a little bit getting used to because it actually is so aggressive on steering tipping but just doing these little Wiggles around you almost get double the steering effect for your input so it doesn't have like the fastest steering ratio ever but it just feels like we're drifting everywhere it's almost loose on the back axle and uh at speed I noticed it's not that aggressive as well so definitely go rear steer three degrees you get opposite rotation just to show you some turning radius stuff let's do a test I haven't really tried a full turning radio let's get let's do it in the intersection up here I think we'll have a little bit more so here we are coming to a stop I want to talk about input feelings for brake and accelerator a slight clunk there first clunk I've felt all day actually full turn on the steering wheel wow look at this turning radius right here oh boy we're gonna keep going yeah we're gonna keep going I just want to make sure no one was coming to the intersection absolutely epic turning radius so good so loving that um hybrid stuff that's going to be the next thing to test and talk about first of all uh what I really want to do is put the vehicle in E power right now and see how hard it is to max out the power output in e-power this is saying I want to be an EV E power means no combustion engine please I just want to stick in electric only and what I want to see is how hard is it to maximize this power output now I have a couple gauges to help me out I have this blue output gauge and a green regen gauge on the left so I don't know if you can see that power output and power regen slightly being Blended in there interesting just like taikon I noticed the first few brake applications didn't use any regen there and that's probably doing some sort of brake disc cleaning it's a very Volkswagen group thing to do our e-tron does that and a few other cars as well where you don't get regen the first few stops I think what they're doing is they're doing brake temperature calculations to basically see how much electric assistance you need based off of friction levels in the braking system as well as uh you know making sure the distance are clean so let's see how hard it is to max out the electric mode I'm going to first try and use the gauges here so I'm feeding in the power feeding in the power feeding in the power we've maxed out there and no combustion engine I even went slightly past on the accelerator pedal to where we maxed out that blue bar and it I cannot stress this enough to you guys who don't drive plug-in hybrids it is so important to be able to maximize your electric acceleration without locking yourself into um or I should say without turning on the combustion engine you want I it's it's great to go wide open throttle and just know and have peace of mind that's repeatable without staring at gauges say I can maximize the electric acceleration here so let's try it again here we go more oh so there it's just kicked on the combustion engine and I went slightly past where the blue bar came in and then it fired up so let's try it again a little bit more a little bit more a little bit more a little bit more and there we are engine on bit of a bummer I hate to say it but this is a downside of the car and it's really something that's unfortunate oh V60 pull star so cool to see one of those actually second one we've seen today I think that's actually the same one might be the same one yeah so that's probably the same one um okay so here's a downside with the plug-in system because the plunger that fake false floor is no longer here I can't lock the car in e-power mode and drive around 100 electric and know exactly how much power to give it before the combustion engine kicks on you know and I always thought Porsche was ahead of its time it was it was 918 technology to use the e-power function this um excuse me not the E power but the false floor function and yeah it's gone so now I can't just like accelerate maximum and go the nice Saving Grace of this is in electric mode at least you still have plenty of performance again over 170 horsepower over 300 pound-feet of torque in full electric and it's pre-transmission which means you get the torque multiplication effect and the efficiency benefit of being pre-transmissioned for Highway cruising that there's very few cases where you'll actually need in Daily driving to give it so much juice like here we're actually ripping pretty good to give it so much juice to kick on that combustion engine but uh I think they actually messed that up that's really a bummer I hate to see it and to me it like it's such a knock on the car because this is such an integral part of daily driving that they're neat like I really hope they consider before this car launches in October and November utilizing the electric pedal in a different way the next best option would be is to go go all the way to the kick down switch and then use the kick down switch to turn on the combustion engine again you run the risk then of turning on the combustion engine Under full load but at least now I can at least maximize my electric acceleration as much as possible because there is a kick down switch I just hit it which fired up the engine real quick and I backed off so it didn't boost up because it's still fairly cold and uh not good enough good at all there another not good the brake pedal let's talk about it Porsche has employed plenty of different braking strategies I don't know if yeah this just moved we all just jerked around it's not so good here uh the brake pedal I think's main problem is that it's paired with the carbon Ceramics on this Cayenne and um one of the downsides of pairing this with the carbon Ceramics is you don't get the Fidelity of controlling the brake pedal smoothly because the car is trying to compensate for brake temperature and friction differences through the whole time so you put in one brake pedal application like I am just here and the car is almost jerking on slow down because it doesn't know how much to grab or let go of the big friction brakes and I hope to drive one of these with a steel setup soon whenever they come to the US maybe closer to the end of this year and I hope that they've solved this tuning issue with the steel brake system okay that's enough electric hybrid around town driving I want to actually that was electric driving I want to put it in hybrid Auto now because this will be the key up setting for most people you can also choose the key up setting to be uh e-power fully electric if there's energy in the battery pack otherwise it will default to hybrid mode so we have everything in normal setting we'll keep sport exhaust off because I don't think you want to listen to it all the time every day in typical cruising we're going to set our sights closer to Malibu if we have time what time is it Alyssa do you know 15 that's three three I'm really bad with military time minus 12. yeah that really doesn't help no no yes I don't think we have time to really rip it around the Canyons but before 30 it needs to be back by an hour and a half to get to Malibu on the weekend it's just a matter of getting back back is the hard part okay well let's at least get out of here really nice 993 cap to our left and we'll find some good roads and try out hybrid Auto so there's two ways to approach the Electric System in a Porsche plug-in hybrid and I've driven many different Porsche plug-in hybrids over the years now and they're the ones that annoy me kind of the least I'm not really a plug-in hybrid lover I am from an engineering standpoint there's so much to appreciate and that's why these videos become so long because there's a lot to explain these intricacies to you and I really want to help you maximize your Porsche plug-in hybrid if you own one of these but I've now switched it into hybrid Auto like I mentioned and by the way 360 degree cam popping up here super cool to see how do we direct these things around that is so neat every car has this function now but pretty nice to see you can also wash the rear camera is that true swipe left or right to see the angle oh even the brake lights pop up look at that cool uh anyway it's gone now um from the hybrid standpoint we're driving around in electric mode and we still get less actually that's what it felt like to me we got less acceleration in hybrid mode than we did in e-power and I think the re do we go left up here Alyssa do you know no no no yes turn left the try and rip a canyon if possible I don't think it's possible bummer all right we're gonna have to knife through traffic here and pay a little bit more attention to stick with timing but in hybrid mode we're gonna get some acceleration and then it's going to switch to combustion as we go past the maximum just like it did in e-power it's it's just gonna happen today much earlier level why is everyone getting into the right lane I can't figure it out we're going into the left look at this disaster we're about to drive in here [Music] no u-turn and there's a thousand people around oh because we're right by the pier yeah the peers I said no for me dog what a disaster we have no time and we're stuck in traffic going the wrong direction [Music] up here somewhere okay let's figure out more about the hybrid mode how much electric power you can get before it switches to hybrid there's one last thing to mention here it is worth using the built-in navigation rather than carplay when you drive this vehicle the reason I say that is I've done a whole video on this actually with BMW's technology not with Porsches but it's the same concept it does route planning by choosing between electric and combustion to maximize your efficiency over the total drive you see if you're just like on the highway and you have it in hybrid mode it's going to prioritize electric normally but if the navigation sees oh you're gonna have to do 15 miles of City driving before you make it to your destination it's actually going to kick on the combustion engine and hold the energy in the battery pack for when you get into an urban environment and then it's going to prioritize electric not only is that good for efficiency maximizing your tools here it's also great just for reducing inner city air pollution which is something I think everyone who is a living thing wants to breathe cleaner air not that I'm like a greeny person but I do hate inner city emissions and plug-in hybrids really do help to reduce those so I'll give them that all right let's continue let's go hit some canyons and see how this drives in a performance so we got through that mess of traffic we're now heading up the road you can see in hybrid mode especially when cruising at speed it's really prioritizing combustion driving as I apply throttle we get quite a bit of e-boost as torque fill before it spins up the turbos and then gives us the full power so modified Machi GT over there but what I'm actually going to do now because again we have limited time I want to preserve as much energy for the um uh Canyon portion of this so there's two ways to really charge up the battery the first is to put it in e-charge mode I think is what it's called so hybrid Auto and I can go to e-charge this will will charge the battery efficiently only at high speeds that's because the engine will be on it'll be constantly running and it will charge it up that's probably how I'm gonna drive it over there the other way is to put it in Sport Plus at least in the previous cars used to Target the most aggressive amount of charging the fastest charging if I put it here in the sport sport kind of holds the charge Sport Plus now uh we're in we have chassis level normal and height normal so we shouldn't be too aggressive sport exhaust on it actually is charging the vehicle slightly even at idle if I go neutral and Revit yes it charges it even more so that's basically what I'm going to do is just sit at traffic lights because reviewing plug-in hybrids are really annoying because there's so many use cases I have to do so many different charge and discharge Cycles to really figure the car out and it's great to Target a fast charge so it is good to know that Sport Plus still will rip the battery level up and that's to give you the most amount of sustained performance when on track or when driving hard in the canyons because you know again this car really only makes good power when you can combine the electric motor with the combustion engine the total system power is what gives you that that full over 400 horsepower number so we'll keep it in Sport Plus we'll burn some juice I'm going to keep the revs up if I want to lock it in manual mode by the way first of all I can just choose a gear to go into by pulling a paddle and it will display the gear here on the instrument cluster but if I push and hold down it now says manual shift mode activated and I can keep the revs up and you'll notice as we cruise and everything stabilizes out we'll start to even charge up the high voltage battery a little bit more so it's not using it for torque fill unless I do a hard stab I believe so here just throttle there what boost so we get that before the turbos kick up and it really does give you an instant okay but it gives you an instant acceleration this is the quality of YouTube you get for it this is what happens when we don't ask for patreon subscriptions or anything you're literally not paying for this content so you're welcome for the quality that you're getting well now we're starting to get up to some better roads here rear steer helping us through the corner is that a Supra um full power okay now it's time to evaluate it have some fun so let's hold down solid power nothing super fast here but this is you know enough to get around so let's drop a couple gears 4 000 RPM will roll into it second gear Auto off shift up Red Line there it up shifted before I can get to the paddle ice downshifts let's see what happens when we turn PSM off we got a golf behind us wanting to have some fun gear shifts are awesome on this thing now what's cool is it's going to use the combustion engine for as much as possible in this mode and then add in electric motor for torque fill on initial throttle application before it can spin up the turbos it can't do it when it's shifting gears like some other plug-in hybrids because that's the electric motors in front of the transmission so that has to shift as well so you do feel and especially here the gear shifts but for a torque converter Auto it's really good the reason this has a torque converter Auto and other Porsches use a pdk of course is for towing um this is crazy trafficking up here we got to find a spot to really feel the suspension stuff out let's dial up the car so we're gonna go Sport Plus and drivetrain let's go sport on the chassis Sport Plus typically in Porsches is a bit more aggressive than I would like and we'll go down one level so this is a nice medium setting engine and drivetrain are tuned up right up to 11 with with something that weighs as much as this vehicle you kind of want all the power when you're driving up here but I'm not sure I want all the suspension full stiff I want to really let it move around now I have some cool spider charts that I can share with you on uh the spring suspension versus the air suspension either way both have compression and rebound dampening tool two valve dual valve damping adjustment when you go to this chassis right here the air suspension is a two chamber air suspension the Panamera is the three but the two chamber actually allows for quicker Air Management so that you can match spring rates pretty closely to the three chamber and then respond more quickly to different scenarios so I'm glad to see some of the suspension improvements here haven't really felt it at all because we've been sitting in traffic I will say driving around normally in normal mode the ride is fine but it's not going to be as smooth as a Range Rover or as smooth as maybe even a BMW X5 and the reason I say that is it's a little bit crashy a little bit jarring on the quick initial bumps on big stuff yeah it's it's got some compliance and it's soft and moves around but on the initial hit it's a bit firmer than you would think also these are the 18-way Adaptive sport seats you can option massaging only on the 14-way seats I have not sat in the 14-way seats I like the 18s a lot if you're not going to go massaging I think you go 18s they look better in my opinion there's a whole bunch of different colors and stuff I also would not do all black I'd go for the chalk interior in here I think it would look a little bit nicer but uh let's see if we get out of some of this traffic find some open roads and send this thing around a little bit how it does above Malibu somewhere I don't even know where and I have the vehicle in styled up slightly it's pretty busy out here uh controlling the first thing I'd like to do is test maybe a little bit of the Excel Excel just as we're coming down through here extremely gently the cayenne's always been unbelievably competent even in its base trip what's funny is I've never really spent time with the spicy Cayenne versions I've actually only ever really driven the base cars and if the base four they are tuned to handle hardcore driving and not feel out of place and certainly not saying it's a GT3 or anything like that but you drive them differently they're still funding their own right and you don't ever feel like you're asking them to do something they don't want to do they have great thermals they have great mid-range torque in this particular one just being a roads you know does really well through here brake pedals nice and firm the braking performance is interesting actually just Auto downshift for me and I didn't pull the left paddle even though I'm in manual mode I don't know what's up with that um yeah we kind of need to get out of this congested Zone we're running up on our time massively so let's do a couple things let's first start with straight line acceleration and deceleration so let's find a spot to do wide open throttle and you know full ABS braking this is definitely not going to be the spot so we'll be back with you in a second we'll talk about maximum acceleration maximum braking and then we'll needed some handling topics so full acceleration left foot hard on the brake flooring with the right launch control activated full Boost and everything really slams the gears together to go around let's put it back into M by holding down we have everything dialed up in Sport Plus right now full said Nation [Applause] coming in under braking so this is where the Cayenne feels way stiffer and we're like really loading the thing up in the corners interesting I have PSM in sports and that's what was getting in our way I was like why is it feeling it's holding us back BSM sport PSM off sounds pretty good when you wind this thing out all the way it says occupant protection proactively has been switched off shifts at the red line really hardcore on the suspension honestly might be too stiff for the street let's back it down to Sport and we'll put the level in lowered instead of low down to gear it feels like the right size vehicle really great steering and turning is unbelievable full power on the exit great response not that much performance if I'm honest it could use like another 500 horsepower for this type of stuff for sure I mean like at the end of the day you're everyone's always going to want more power more performance more speed at least I always do you know sometimes I drive around the model S flat even then I'm like oh let's get a tiny bit more here but uh to be totally transparent like this I really think Porsche is going to come out with spicier versions that V8 paired with this system this plug-in system which would be really great I love the idea of enhancing combustion with electricity using and it is gorgeous up here isn't it using the plug-in the electric systems to use as extra boost smooth out the drivetrain intricacies of a combustion engine a lot to like here this guy's shredding on the bicycle I don't want to tailgate him or upset it but like uh yep we're definitely going slow but that's okay anytime I mention anything about bicyclists everyone gets upset so I'm not going to mention anything about bicyclist riding on public roads like this and hogging the road I guess we're in a car Hocking Road as well so it's only fair that we get stuck behind this guy maybe we should just stop and wait since he's obviously not going to pull over just a rearview mirror and then see if we can send it down here and then we'll come back up so from a performance standpoint for what this car is intended to do no question it has the capability to do the things like uh kind of really amazing in the corners for the size of it and that's just a couple corners and we're not even getting it to or beyond the limits but it just feels really really taught from a chassis perspective the throttle does what I want it to do and there's a car behind us a turbo 911 so dark using those ceramic brakes into the corner off the throttle just balance and interesting felt a little bit of traction control in there even though I've turned it off all the way full power down the straightaway on some ceramic brakes there some second gear wine I can hear this little sounds a little straight cut Geary transmission really ripping the downshifts as hard as it can all right we're late for time so let's pull in here make a U-turn run up the hill shall we make sure no one's coming the other way yep a little bit slow to get into reverse and give us power to drive there did that better into manual it actually sounds really nice in the mid-range I have to say 500 RP 's not the nicest engine in the world but it gets the job done the brakes are really good when you get some heat in them into two hardcore Corner can feel the rear steer helping out full power struggling for traction on the exit football how is this a vehicle that can tow 7 700 pounds do 45 miles electric and feel this hardcore on a back road it's the balance of this thing in a mid corner there's so much grip on these tires I mean 3 15s on the rear poet held at the rev limiter there nice some combinations of setting Sport Plus PSI PSN house to the kick down switch but not past where it held at the rev limiter wow this definitely can be fun I think that's about all the twisty road driving we're gonna get out of this today um but it definitely showed that it can do the Cayenne thing and it's certainly a step up from previous generations that I've driven when we're comparing it from base car to base car I spent a lot of time in the canyons with the previous base Cayenne plug-in hybrid Coupe truly enjoyed that vehicle had nothing like this mid Corner grip is is hugely improved here as well as uh just the agile feeling of changing direction I think a lot of that comes down to rear steer and it's very possible that last car that I sampled didn't rear steer but it almost feels like I'm hopping it into the corner it's really nice that lows me a high speed well we should take it out on some streamer sweepers at some point but for now this really is an enjoyable experience up in the canyons it can do the Porsche thing now this is one thing I would like to spend more time evaluating the battery temperature is getting up there we're almost into the red we're at 107 F I don't know what happens when you do get in the red if you get degraded performance uh if it stops regening as much if it kicks on a chiller it actually cools itself I have no idea but these are all the things that we'll have to save for a more in-depth some point into the future so let's run back to where we need to drop this off I'll give you my final thoughts of spending the day with the Cayenne testing as much as possible the one last thing I really want to test is a full break so let's do that right now you holding on Alyssa yes okay [Music] so you can feel the ABS kicking through the brake pedal really good grip one more time grip and a little bit lag on the throttle there I don't think the car knows what we're doing to it and it doesn't sound terrible and I like the feel you get under ABS unlike most e-boosters feel it unnatural this felt pretty good so stopping into corners way faster than you think you can pretty freaking awesome it's the one car to do it all uh just give me the plug-in hybrid with the V8 that's the one I hope they make at some point in the future [Music] well we are seven minutes away and uh 25 26 minutes late to drop this off I'm just driving back in e-power mode just to burn off whatever Electric juice we have left because they're going to put it on the charger there and um some final thoughts on the Cayenne plug-in hybrid but I guess first on the the overall Cayenne lineup for 2024 he here um just from a technology everything integrated with the same back end the same cloud system uh all the inner Drive functionality all of this stuff is really good we also have to exit here at 1B so time to deploy some New York maneuvering skills here and uh to round up this way the other thing I should talk about is uh just from a styling perspective to me very minor styling differences between the previous facelift or the previous regular version and now the facelift uh to some people it looks totally different to me I'm not really seeing a big difference here unless you park them next to each other which is pretty unusual for me I think it'd be hard to tell the difference or at least Spot the Difference because cayennes are everywhere they we don't really even notice them anymore it's not like oh look at that Cayenne going down the road it's very understated because there's just so many it does depend on the area that you're in but especially here in La they're on every corner uh and it's all the right stuff I mean the electric components specific to the plug-in are hugely improved for the previous generation you get so much more electric power output and e-power than you do in hybrid so the way I would recommend driving this car is kind of e-power for daily driving uh you know hybrid for road trips and then pair with the navigation sport mode for the hardcore Canyon blasting honestly I think sport Mode's probably the best or you run Sport Plus Engine with the smart tuning on the suspension and then maybe if you're on track you go Sport Plus if it's a smooth track then you can dial it up all the way but so much customized customization here there's also a whole bunch of off-road credibility which we haven't even explored or touched on I mean this is a car that requires a full week of Hardcore testing maybe even more to be honest but uh yeah there you go my initial thoughts I mean we spent the day with this thing learned all about it got to figure it out and it does what the previous generation Cayenne did which is be probably the best premium large-ish SUV out there super capable driving Dynamics wise if you're if you're a driving Enthusiast this is your option because it drives so much better than X5 which is also good really good but not great this is fantastic and it just it brings the Performance Edge to the SUV market and that's what Cayenne has always done so beginning so nothing has really changed here it's just improved and look at this still pretty good electric acceleration there without even kicking on the combustion engine I bet it would do like zero to sixty seven eight seconds maybe eight eight nine seconds something like that full electric which for a plug-in hybrid really isn't bad just bring back the plunger bring back the false floor Porsche I want a way to maximize electric mode here without kicking on uh without the risk of kicking on the combustion engine so there's my review of the new Cayenne love it uh really do love it can't wait for the electric one to come in the future I'm not sure how this whole product line is going to work out but it'll be interesting to watch unfold hardcore through the light and we made it before the red yeah just really a well refined totally fully engineered package and the way you can option it just goes through the roof you can really put whatever you want on this thing you can make it a super light option you can go crazy through the roof but uh my recommendation you only live once put the options you want on this thing anyway thanks so much for watching see you in another video soon bye-bye
