he [Music] [Music] [Applause] [Music] after The Rains of Donnington it is a hot and sunny Saturday afternoon at Brown hatch as we get Set uh for our second qualifying session of the Year ready for round four of the championship which will be race one tomorrow here on the Indie circuit at BR hatch and Kent a circuit that first hosted the British Touring Car Championship British saloon car Championship as it then was back in 1958 and there's been plenty of drama in the past around the 1.21 miles of the Indie circuit here at which Colin turkington has the fastest qualifying lap to his name and Colin comes here fourth in the championship behind Jake hill by just one point Jake in turn is behind Ash ston and Tom Ingram with his two wins at Donington is the championship leader behind Colin turkington there is Aiden Moffett Who was the three winner at Donnington then Josh cook Dan camish is seventh and it is Adam Morgan who rounds out the top eight and this promises to be a fascinating qualifying session because it is our first session of the Season where we're going to have the hybrid allocation because remember at Donnington everybody first round of the championship started on the same Level Playing Field here the better you've done in the championship thus far from the three races at Donnington the less hybrid you will have uh per lap around the Indie circuit now the other thing to factor in here of course is this new qualifying format this quick six format where we have the 20 drivers split into two groups based on where they finished in free practice 2 so it's 10 cars per group in q1 we want the fastest six out of each of those two groups to go into Q2 so we go from 10 cars times 2 up to 12 and we take the fastest six out of Q2 and those six drivers will go into Q3 to determine the pointy end of the grid and that's going to be the really interesting bit of course there's all this Jeopardy throughout qualifying but the pressure is on to make sure you get into Q3 and then of course deliver uh to get at the front of the grid and it's going to be really frantic around here there's no argument about that so qualifying to come in a few moments time teams getting themselves ready uh and in the pit Lane earlier on in the day Tim Harvey and Lis Goodman took a stroll and found one or two drivers to hear their thoughts not only on this weekend but to reflect on Donington as well so Tim race two of the 2024 season before we talk about br's hatch though I just want to start by reflecting back on Donnington that final race I know you were super impressed by uh by Aden moffett's Victory there I was because you know when when you see a driver that gets a sniff of Victory and lifts their game and delivers a really top class worldclass performance you know it resonates and and I saw that in Aiden Moffett in that race it was an absolutely outstanding Drive and I just wanted to reflect on it and hopefully have a chat with him yeah I thought I think it was lovely let's see if we can get him over Aiden come and join us it was lovely it was one of those results a bit like Lando Norris last weekend where half of the pit Lane came up to you to say congratulations it was a special moment for you wasn't it yeah I wish I had the paycheck of L nor still be part no it was lovely it was um yeah just I've never had so many messages with social media and texts and things in my life which was uh that's a nice feeling you said to me sorry just want to one thing I want to ask him you said to me at the time that um it's been a while you've had a not the best should we say a couple of years so what's that result done for your confidence what's it done for your head I think I was confident coming into this year I've done um I speak to Tim earlier where I've done most of my preseason I've been working on me and my kind of my mindset as opposed to physical driving and and since I've jumped in this car I've been confident with it I've every time I've went on on track you know what Don B looked at any data through the day I didn't do any nuts that I used to do I just thought just feel what the car does drive the car and enjoy yourself and I felt confident all preseason but having the wi to actually back that up to know you can do it also when it matters it's it's a a it's a big thing for us as a team to set the rest of the season up have you looked back at the video of the race and looked at yourself and thought okay I need to get myself in that mindset and drive like that all the time yeah but only 40 or 50 times um yeah I mean it was going I've said a lot preseason that this year we were coming to win races again and probably a few people thought yeah whatever me but that's what that was always the goal that was the big reason behind switching teams and you know two years we struggled I just want to come back and win races again that was what they that's what the aim was and that's what the confidence and belief was I can see your teammate listening over there you're getting some tips here Josh he's actually taking pictures as we go along as well so you're definitely into Superstar territory now thanks thanks for the good luck nice to see you nice to see high is he he's high you know we've always known Aiden's had stunning pace and speed and he's said as he said he's won races before but never in that style of dominance and you know he was up against some real quality drivers and just shows what a difference the mind can make to you know you're delivering a a top class performance on track and I know it was a battle I had a little chat with with Huffy this morning for a piece that's going in the uh in the show tomorrow he had a smile on his face when he was talking about that that battle as well because when you're up against your teammate it's uh or somebody in the same car should I say it's it's always going to be a tricky one is but I said to somebody and I didn't mean it disparagingly but if you'd swapped the names on the cars you didn't know who was driving which you'd think it was Rob Huff X world champion who was driving the Aden Moffet car wasn't it because it was a fantastic drive but no full credit to to the lad now have we got Tom we have I should have Tom on on standby let me uh oh typically he's wanded off well let's talk about Tom while he's uh he's not here at the moment hopefully somebody can can find him um again a fantastic no hands in the air as I say let's talk see some running running marvelous um because obviously he had a brilliant weekend last time out at at Donnington it's put him uh at the front of the championship which um unlike Donington it comes with its perils I like Don where obviously everybody was equal in terms of hybrid Tom is now going to have minimum amount of hybrid um here now we know this is a short circuit but nonetheless it's going to have an impact isn't it how much impact well if you think if you reflect on last year's qualifying when we had 18 19 cars covered by a second and the full use of deployment is worth half a second here and Tom comes in with just one second almost nothing then the difference in qualifying could be huge nice of you to join us known there would be food have you brought lunch for us that's kind of you thought I'd bring my lunch you see I thought I'd bring my lunch with me and eat on the Fly it's the past the race driver's fuel lunch isn't it well you see Tim I am I am an athlete in it so I've got to um I've got to try and uh I shant eat this whilst I'm going on um but yeah I have to I have to give off the uh the racing the racing driver energy at least whether it's true or not who knows you can ask him now yeah I can I I was saying at Donnington obviously that was fantastic weekend but relatively straightforward put it on pole win two races that's going to be almost impossible to replicate during the rest of I think will so so how do you then approach Brand's hatch with the lack of hybrid in qualifying the introduction of the option Tire your whole thinking is different isn't it it has to be yeah yeah yeah but as as you know Tim so much about this game is please don't say pointy is a head game but it's going to be a pointy day yay it's uh it's exactly that but no look as you know this game is not necessarily about who's quickest every single time it's it's the mental game over the course of it one thing you can control is which tires you race on yes so how do you approach that conundrum well again I think that will that will very much be dictated by a qualifying position um it'll be it be dictated by qualifying position but it'll also be dictated slightly by what this weather decides to do if we have a if we have the current bun in the sky all of tomorrow that might you know change the time that we that we do it we just have to wait and see it's going to be an interesting day that's for sure and it's um it's all going to kick off with qualifying this afternoon that's coming up very shortly so Thomas we'll let you go off thanks for back to lunch better late than never mate better late than never enjoy your lunch back to you David so these are the two groups that we're going to have going into qualifying based on uh their finishing positions in free practice two group one Tom Chilton Dan cish Ronan Pearson Aaron tayor Smith who was fist in the first session in fact uh the cooler of the two Ash Satan was ninth Mikey doble then colen turkington Rob half Sam Osborne Daryl DeLeon that's your first group group uh who will go uh out for 10 minutes and when they pit the pit name will be readed for group two Dan Rob bottom Josh Kirk Adam Morgan aen Mofford Jake Hill Tom Ingram Andrew Watson Chris Smiley Scott samton Nick halad bear in mind then Tom Ingram has one second a lap of hybrid Ash Sutton has three and look where they were after fp2 Jake Hill has five seconds of hybrid a lap so ninth was Sutton 10th was Hill 12th was Ingram that Tim does illustrate certainly in free practice at how not having much hybrid is going to hurt you it is but in free practice we they're they're at um uh they're at Liberty to use the hybrid in free practice so we don't know even based on those times whether they were using or not what I can tell you is that all 20 cars are in the pit Lane so we're not going to have a repeat of Donnington where Rob Huff was unceremoniously stopped from qualifying and he will get to take part in his first qualifying session in this first half of uh set of qualifying so Rob Huff welcome to btcc qualifying and he of course has the full allocation of hybrid available to him he does indeed and therefore starts as one potential poll winner on what might be quite a long list really I would offer you uh as other options for poll position uh Dan camish down rad bottom possibly uh because again you've got people that are quick and have a lot of hybrid usage and it's going to be fascinating to see as well uh whether this man Daryl DeLeon is able to do what he did at the quirky qualifying of Donington where of course he made threw into Q2 he did indeed and stunned a lot of people did fantastically well had a little bit of a trouble qualify free practice had a a rose joint fail in the front lower arm in one of the sessions but uh I'm very impressed with darl Delon he never gets uh down on his uh luck and is always positive in his attitude he loves driving these cars and I know what a great natural Talent he is so it's very good to have him on the grid and the team have done a very good job presenting a superb car with very little time before Donnington now we had a bit more time to prepare for Brands and hopefully Dar will be able to show some more of that pace and it's a tiny team in comparison to many so it's sort of punching above its weight really so a reminder 10 minutes and uh some cars May well left to come in and do a tire Cross although to be honest the pit Lane has remained so far quiet of those that are on uh or meant to be on track for this first group there you've got Ash sat and then the reigning champion going up through Cs and McLaren and Colin turkington as I was saying earlier on is the man that has got the fastest qualifying time ever around here and he's also got 27 pole positions to his name Ash Zan now does pit possibly for that tie cross and with just 3 seconds of hybrid allocation per lap knows it's going to be a tough session it certainly will and I'm I I asked him where he was likely to use that and I think it'll be out of Graham Hill along the bottom bottom straight because it's a slightly uphill um section of track it's from a slowish corner and he can use the full 3 seconds there it maybe he uses a couple of seconds there and then a second coming out of clearways to give him a little bit of cumulative if you like boost down the the start Finish Line um but uh we'll see it's not a lot of lot of lot of boost that's for sure that was a story out of the team this morning that he had a bit of a slide in one of the fre practice sessions and while he was in the middle of the slide decided to Dey the hybrid in order to nail it to drag it back online it was all very quick indeed now there is an empty BMW which is Jake Hill's car and looking down the car is ready for the session it's on the apron it just doesn't have a driver in it but you could argue there's no real purpose sitting in the car for 10 minutes no and then the the gap between the two groups otherwise you're just getting hotter and hotter and hotter these cars are very hot anyway and uh he's probably doing the right thing and keeping cool for as long as possible he may well have his helmet and everything on just staying in the garage and staying cool um very sensible because their drivers are in this car for quite a long time now if uh if when they qualify through yes Tom Ingram was saying to me yesterday that if you don't need to be in the car get out just relax get an air a stretch right Colin turkington is about to go across the timing line and offer up the best lap thus far the only proper lap thus far really 48599 nobody else has done a time and remember we said it at Donnington we'll say it all season no doubt but this session is about not being slow just get through into Q2 the heroics come the further through qualifying you go that's Ronan Pearson you're looking at and we've got just under six minutes of q1 group one to go at Ronan Pearson who gets better and better with the more mileage he has in the hyai back for a second season in the championship and he comes out of Clark curve now piecing the lap together and you can see him at work yeah you can see him pulling gears no clutch needed on the way up he will probably break with his left foot and as he changes down see blip the throttle just as he's changing down so no clutch required but as you go through the neutral element to the Gear you can just blip the throttle to match the revs now towards Druids conin turkington's next lap a little bit slower although they're a personal improvements for the likes of Satan and camish and Sam Osborne in the sectors you're looking at ran Pearson though now going out of Graham Hill Bend rides to curb on the exit back on the path pulls a gear along Cooper straight and this is looking decent enough isn't it for Ronan Pearson let's see where it's going to put him second is the estimate Ash suon has just done a 51.9 Ronan Pearson should go quicker than that and the clock's ticking on down we've only got less than 5 minutes to go now up towards the timing line he comes time he's aiming for is a 48 A2 and a 487 does indeed put Ronan Pearson second and Sam Osborne goes up to third now interesting looking at ran Pearson's incard you remember Donington he had that aperture on his on his visor he's now got a much bigger visor aperture um so clearly the uh the team or the powers of be have said you're probably going to see a bit more out of your helmet if you open up that Gap a little bit and I'm pleased to see he has cuz peripheral vision is everything in these cars Ash saton has gone up to second with briefly an absolute best in the sector although Colin turkington has the absolute best sector 2 and Rob half has done an absolute best in sector one so it's the top six where aing for and at the moment Osborne half Chilton and camish would miss the boat but Rob half is about to put himself up to the top of the times potentially because he's done an absolute best in the first sector and Rob half heads across the line and goes second on a 483 so it's turkington half satton Osborne Pearson doel change that Taylor Smith Goes third and Mikey doble goes fifth so out at the moment Pearson Delon Chilton and Dan kamish has got himself up into six it's all changing with every lap Chilton is fastest now yeah well all the front-wheel drive cars are now delivering their fast laps after crossing the tires they're just trying to get a perfect balance of temperature in in the tires it is very hot we had GT Racing here at the weekend and the drivers are feeling that combination of the hot weather the pelli rubber on the track it's not giving them the same feedback that they would otherwise have had here's on board with Sam Osborne um he's got his Vis well and truly open uh Sam is very low in the car I noticed and uh he did actually try moving the seat up for first practice but didn't like it so he's back in his comfort zone Dam cish absolute best in the first sector Ronan Pearson briefly fast he cin turkington back to the top uh that's camish second then Dan camish goes through to be second fastest so at the moment Huff's out Taylor Smith out Osborne out Delon out 2 minutes and 40 on the clock we're not done yet and this is Again part of the real Jeopardy isn't it because you've got got 10 good drivers and only six spaces exactly and uh you can't just rely on one Banker lap here you you you've really got to be on the game but with only uh a short session there's only 2 and 1 half minutes to go there's no point in stopping and pitting for any kind of changes now you might do a cool down lap and another push lap but it's going to be uh every lap till the end to try and get in that top six and in that 2 minutes and change you can do a lot of laps here because we're talking about 48 seconds as the fastest lap bus far from Colin turkington now Rob half has gone second so not only does he get to take part in qualifying for the first time he might get Q2 as well because right now that's looking a very rapid Toyota or sorry it's time I know he's backed off on this lap the point was or trying to be uh that he's got himself up to where he needs to be 22,000 shy of turkington so he's got good Pace he's got good Pace but the times are so close here you know the Seventh Place car of Mikey doel is less than 2/10 away from the quickest time so we're talking tiny margins on board with ran Pearson as he comes up L he's already in in fourth let's see if this moves him up that lap doesn't so have they peaked because nobody's chuffle the order now just to go back to how competitive and how evenly match cars are Mikey doel Aaron Taylor Smith the two power match teammates are split by 1,000th of a second and that is Aaron Taylor Smith who was in the gravel in fp2 and therefore needed a bit of setup work before this qualifying session ATS is normally a pretty spectacular driver and he certainly wasn't Paddock yeah he had a big old slide there didn't they the drivers actually get onto the hybrid button and change gear before they get out of padak Hill Ben while they're going down the hill so they're very busy in the car um but they were first and second quickest in free practice one so um that car is competitive we have had an improved lap time from ran Pearson but he stays fourth and although there are relatively few improvements are coming Mikey doble is still pushing on he will get one more lap out of the session and pretty much I think I'm right in saying everybody is still out there all 10 still circulating so they're all hoping they can find another thousandth or so through goes doble but he's going to be seventh that would bump him out and Aaron Taylor Smith having top the times and fp1 is also out at the moment he's only eight but Sutton is on the bubble isn't he in sixth if either any of doble um Taylor Smith Osborn or Leon improve uh something would be out but at the moment he's into the next um part of qualifying yeah Mikey doble needs to find 76,000 of a second to bump out Sutton and this is Aaron Taylor Smith but we're not we're not getting improvements in the sectors the checker flag is out so this is the final opportunity and I think the tires have peaked haven't they because we're just not getting improvements we might getting better speeds but not better times in sectors and Sam Osborne has also had a lap time disallowed for track limit defenses as across the line go the Astros no improvement for Taylor Smith no improvement for doble so that preserves protects Ashan sixth in the times much mopping of brow and I'm sure Tony coros will be on the radio saying you're through you're through you're through he'll probably let him finish this lap but uh he has just scrap through yeah and given that that's an indicator he had three seconds of uh uh of hybrid Tom Ingram Championship leader will have 1 second so he'll have even less um now it sort of depends on which group you fall into in terms of qu of qualifying but there's no easy groups here to get in the top six and obviously we're going to to see um we're going to see Tom Ingram in the next Group which has a lot of quick cars in it as well yeah yes drivers were saying it doesn't really matter which group you're in in terms of when you go out on the track but it does matter in terms of who you're up against that's the point to it isn't it yeah and part of the fascination of this quick six so this is the order at the end of q1 uh group one and it is Colin turkington the fastest from Rob huff and Dan camish third Ronan Pearson is fourth Tom Chilton Fifth and Ash Satan is sixth so we lose Mikey doble Aaron Taylor Smith Sam Osborne and Daryl Deon but it'll be a good feel at BMW and a rather relieved Rob half I would have thought because after not qualifying at all at Donington there he is second Dan camish still in the mix third good effort by ran Pearson to be fourth and Tom Chilton and Ash saton the others that will go through from that first group of 10 and remember turkington only had effectively half of the hybrid allowance he had seven seconds didn't he so he was on so it points out that the BMWs are strong here I think they can use their traction um off the corners and the hybrid very early on in the corner so I think they're getting a good benefit here and the BMW is going to be strong again if it's uh if it's a hot day so from the last car coming in uh the and arriving at its pit box uh now we have the green flag to let the second group out so same principle 10 minutes uh 10 will go into the session and effectively six will come out of at the other end and go I'm glad to say that Jake Hill is in the car and is coming out as we expected heading down the pit Lane with Adam Morgan leading the way there is increasing talk of a fourth BMW for snon which would be good to see we'd love to see that certainly the other thing is that the drivers who have been out can also give a little bit of feedback to their teammates going out in the next session in terms of how the cars handling how the track is etc etc so it's quite useful info if you're out in the second group Chris Smiley Ventures out and so Morgan Hill robottom Ingram Alstead cook Moffett Smiley samton Watson of the 10 on track and remember that it was uh down Road bottom second fastest in free practice 2 and therefore uh the quickest of the drivers within this session right as the cars head onto the circuit let's quickly head to the pit Lane and join Louise yeah with h with Aaron T Smith I'm guessing a probably a slightly frustrated Aron Smith cuz so much speed this morning and it's not translated through yeah just a just a tough session to be fair uh didn't go our way just a few little scruffy mistakes and probably just didn't have the car right in the window where I needed it just temperature played a bit of an effect but that is life you know there's three races tomorrow we saw what um what Rob did from having a tough qualified atalan no reason why we can't Benz back tomorrow but t as like disappointed for the crew though bad luck no thank you Louise thanks yeah just getting back to fp2 Dan robottom uh second fastest in that session but also caused a red flag cuz he plunged off the road at Paddock and the team said we made an adjustment and it wasn't quite right so uh he was caught out by that but he's a man that's taken a pole position here in the past easy mistake to make a paddock though is it yes it is now there was a a Napa forward I noticed in the gravel late yesterday yes uh explain I don't know too much about that but um Harvey on the side of the car I can confirm that I was privileged enough to drive a Napa racing car yesterday thoroughly enjoyed the experience you can see see it all in the uh program tomorrow live on air um but uh yes I did have an off at Paddock with sadly due to a left front puncture ah okay so at least I have an excuse Dan robot didn't have any excuse fair enough you were in Sam Osborne's car hot Downs weren't you I'm sorry Sam yeah I was yeah but he still doesn't have any excuse no indeed indeed anyway as they warned their tires up we'll see Jake Hill and Adam Morgan in the two BMWs set the first meaning times taking a good careful look how much weaving is going on there this is cuz Jake wants to get his car absolutely in the sweet swap before he starts his lap and uh well here's Morgan he could see the light flashing he's already on the hybrid he'll use it all the way down the straight just hit the rev limiter and uh into pakil Ben down two gears into four and he's got all 15 seconds at his disposal 11 seconds a lap for Josh cook 15 for robottom nine for mofet five for Hill one for Ingram 15 for Watson Smiley samton and Halstead yeah so a little bit of hybrid flashing the light flashing as he came up the hill towards uh Druids and you'll see it again almost before he's out of the corner along the bottom uh straight so on the hybrid there he's definitely pushing hard breaking he'll get the car turned and rotated then watch for the light come back on again as he comes out of Druids [Music] on the run to the line we'll see what this time is there's the hybrid flashing so he's had his full 15 seconds worth and not surprisingly he goes quickest at the moment but he'll still be building some lap time speed the hybrid 15 seconds resets instantly you cross the start finish line so you still have that you have it again for the next lap so um a 48.6 the quickest at the moment for Adam organ Jak Hill just 23,000 behind and then we wait for the Frat wheeel drive cars to start to post their times and for the shuffling to count so this is Jake Hill on home soil way up the curve on the east side of Dr Hill Ben it's normally the outside where the track limit driver comes but that was taking a massive bite out of the inside that was certainly and the car actually took it very well didn't it floated over that very nicely so uh he's definitely a bit of a brand hat specialist we always say Jake Hill cuz he grew up not far from here spent his childhood here watching then his uh obviously his initial for into racing through janeta Juniors but BR hatch very much home for Jake Hill and he has got remember just 5 Seconds a lap of hybrid against the 15 of his stable mate Adam Morgan right Tom Ingram has gone third ahead of down rad Bott him as the times from the front-wheel drive crew now start to be put into the mix and that heading to the line is Tom Ingram so let's see what he can do with his limited use of hybrid on this next lap Adam Morgan's doing absolute best in sectors in the BMW Ingram goes through to be third 48 989 so Morgan Hill Ingram robot your four that have done laps yeah but look at the difference in time uh Ingram is some 610 of a second down over half a second mord up to third ahead of Ingram now Ingram may be struggling in terms of pace but for the moment he's in he's ahead of Watson and robottom and a lap time disallowed for Adam Morgan and now Dan Rob bosom has done an absolute best within the first sector two sectors on the Indie circuit so this ought to put Robo up to the top let's see the Napa for with a bit of damage on the left rear corner look goes across the line and he's actually second in the end 41,000 shy of Jake Hill so robosson with the trim trailing on that left rear corner second fastest yeah just a little bit of trim not quite attach the body Arch I don't think he's hit anything it's just uh come detached in the wind but I'm sure the alliance racing team will sort that out it's not going to hinder his performance now oh now wson been off or is he just start starting a lap starting a lap to let the traffic go I think with the slowness we're getting another lap disallowed this time around it's from Scott suton so Andrew Watson now has tried to buy himself clear track base and he goes for it because at the moment he's outside that quick six Adam Morgan is still the fastest by 10th and this is Watson's push lap so so it's BMW first and second R bottom third Ingram in in four top six going through but he's now reduced that deficit with his next slap Ingram he's now just 2/10 away so Morgan Hill robot of Ingram cook Moffett are six that are in Scott sson is up to seventh ahead of his teammate Chris Smiley the two restart racing Twins and then you got Nick Halstead ninth and Andrew Watson here 10th but Watson's lap actually ain't looking that hot because he's down in the first sector yeah he is yeah and we've only got three minutes to go this is Jake Hill then coming up now to the right hander of clearways and then into Clark curve though out at the moment something Smiley house down and Watson and if the scouted there You' kind of say Andrew Watson in the works Toyota was the biggest of them Jake Hill on a slow earlap letting the traffic go this is Aiden Moffett Josh cook goes third that puts mofet on the bubble Smiley up to seventh so Moffett he's still got three t in hand but if Andrew Watson were to suddenly improve Moffet Donington winner would be knocked out of it Robos had a lap time taken off him yeah Morgan uh sorry Jake Hill was cruising I think both those BMWs are safe now so I think they're trying to save their tires a little bit M really pushing on on the exit of clearways right out to the outside does he improve with this lap no he stays sick and the one to watch is Watson because he's done a personal best in the first sector so Andrew Watson is about to go across the timing line and as he does so uh he goes up to seventh behind Mofford so he improve but not enough to get into the top six he's got to go again and he's got two minutes in which to do it yeah but I think he I think this next that could be at least as quick I think his tires are on it he was slower to really get going he's wide there though he's missed the Apex at Druids so I don't think his first sector which comes up along the bottom straight will be quicker we'll watch to see if it comes up green for a personal best it comes up ultimate best what do I know so purple sector for one for Watson this must get him into the top six except it's not purple anymore cuz Morgan has gone even faster but you're right they should get Watson into the quick six at the expense of mofet let's see because he comes up now across the timing Line Andrew Watson goes second fastest that bumps out mofet Morgan should go even faster and goes across the line he does 48070 he's a 10th to the good and Josh cook goes second then so out Mofford Smiley Samson halad and Ingram still in sixth place but now on the bubble but with less than a minute to go and and Aiden Moffett has improved in the first sector so Mofford ought to get himself back in here but if he does it'll be Ingram's expense it will Ingram is still out there trying to respond if he can here comes mofet then who has got to find 31,000 to get himself ahead of Tom Ingram and as he goes across the line Moffett stays seventh he didn't do it the second sector was slower yeah couldn't quite he still going for it though he's still on it but whether he's had the best of his tires or not I don't know but he is prob the only car now left that could uh bump out Ingram from the top six so he's in the first sector which is a relatively long one to the end of Cooper straight that will give us an idea as to whether he still got life in the tires in the first group it was harder at the very end to improve and there are fewer improvements being seen on the timing screen right now as the checker flag goes out because we've had the 10 minutes so Adam Morgan is the fastest thus far and Aiden Moffett is down in that first sector yeah he's not going to do it on this lap so Ingram will go through he's taken flag has Ingram mofet comes up to the line and stay seventh so he's out and so are Smiley and suton and hellstead well I think I said about Ash suton much mopping of brow the same will be true of Tom Ingram w't it so Adam Morgan it is who is the fastest from Josh cook third Andrew Watson and then fourth uh down Road bottom ahead of Jake Hill and Tom Ingram and getting a replay here of Andrew Watson absolutely on the Ragged Edge at coming into Clark curve well he did very well to save that actually did very well to save that and uh fortunately the front splitter didn't dig in because Watson is going through to the final part of qualifying he wouldn't want any damage on the car there wouldn't be time to fix it so Morgan cook Watson Ro bottom Hill and Ingram joined the uh those going through from the first session do indeed and they'll have then 5 minutes from the last car coming into the pit Lane so this is how we are then at the end of uh q1 group two Adam Morgan the fastest by 84,000 from Josh cook Andrew Watson third Dan Robos and fourth Jake Hill and then Tom Ingram progress top six go through we lose Aiden Mofford Chris Smiley Scott samton and Nick Halstead of those that make it to Q2 for the first time this Year Rob Huff Dan camish Tom Chilton Adam Morgan and Dan roboton so it's a really interesting mix of names that we' got for this session taking it as an entirety compared to what we had at Donington and and for me the interesting thing was the hybrid rules are working in qualifying because Ingram and Sutton literally scraped through didn't they um they will effectively be in 11th and 12th Place now Louise said to adidam Mofford uh in that interview at the top of the show what did that win at Donnington do for your head what do being bumped out and qualifying in q1 do for your head CU it's the other end of the spectrum as the rather disconsolate a mord trudges back into the uh LKQ garage and uh speed workor managing director John Gilbert in the black shirt with his back to you wanders over to go and try to find out what the dramas were team manager Alan pots walks past but it'll be an Earnest conversation yeah but we're talking about tiny fractions you know he was a couple of tents behind his teammate Josh cook um it's really hardly anything is it so to the pit Lane will head in a moment because the teams have got their uh five minutes to get cars ready for Q2 Aiden morett though has much to reflect on he can do that with Louise Aiden this is one of those uh those times when your face tells the story yeah the front end of the car has been horrific all day had no front end slow speed and it didn't change nothing so I don't really know what they thought the outcome was going to be um waste of time waste of tires if you're not going to change nothing so a bit annoying to be honest we could see that you were giving it all on that last lap but I mean by that point it seemed like the tires are gone anyway yeah I never got a bait from the tire cuz the front is not working right the car wasn't diving enough it wasn't holding it down or traction issues couldn't really get the lean in the car to grip up and the all speed Corners so I'm not surprised we're out but I'm surprised we didn't try TR more to not be out it just seems a bit of a waste of time I point was to um to not try something different I mean yeah I don't know that's that's what that's there we go I let you go have a word with the engineers hopefully better luck tomorrow and back to you guys thanks Lise so how quickly fortunes can change but uh Aiden Mofford certainly not being unabashed in his comments there no I mean you know his frustration is he obviously felt that was how the car was in free practice and they didn't really or according to him they didn't make any setup changes to adapt the car for the conditions so they got the same result in in qualifying for real um so that's his frustration uh a lot of people are struggling with front whe drive cars with front end bik but you have to adapt the car to the conditions true enough and his demise from qualifying uh will be good for Tom Ingram and he has come come to the pit Lane Tomy with Louise yeah he's um he's just let me just see if I can get his eyeline and see if he's all right he seems to be having a bit of a word with his engineers at the moment he's obviously focusing on something so um no I think uh y he's giving me the thumbs up now so hopefully y he's he's good for a word what's going on there uh I think I think it's just uh it's just a case of trying to get through the first one um balance feels good I think it's just a lack of hybrid it was it was quite close wasn't it were there nervous moments for you in the car or did the team not tell you what this situation was I've got to do my own thing I can I can only control the controllable so uh unfortunately the squidy thing had to be in control there well the squidy thing did all right so I'll let you get your head down for the uh for the next session back to you guys thanks Louise yeah Tom Ingram gets set for Q2 now this is where the road's going to be a bit busier we've had those two groups of 10 now we've got 12 because it's the top six from the two and they are merged together and again we're looking for the fastest six to go into Q3 so the uh teams if you're watching this you think gosh it's a long gap between the end of the the first part of qualifying and the next group but for the teams the time absolutely flies by because they are busy busy busy trying to refine the cars and the tires they use in this session will be the tires they have to use in the next session as well so there' be they'll be careful how many laps they do for sure and it will be 10 minutes once again and uh Louise has found Rob half but the car is just about to be dropped down I think so uh although Louise was there it's action stations in the pit Lane so we might hear from haffy at the end of Q2 either with a smile on his face or not we'll wait and see whether he survives into that cup but he's got further than he has thus far this season oh absolutely he's done very well um I'm not surprised that uh it there wasn't time for an interview these boys are just about to go out and do a qualifying so probably Louise is not the person that they want to see right now they top of the list they need to be really focused on the lap they're about to do and talking to the team so the car's ready to be uh pulled back out of that uh Herring bone formation onto the fast lane that happens now as the Clacks and sounds in the pit Lane and the clock starts right now so all of this of course getting the cars on track he's all part of that 10 minutes it's not that the clock starts when the first car leaves the pit Lane and Tom Ingram taking his time but there are Nappa Fords up the road and BMWs up the road as well that need to leave the pit Lane so 12 cars on track uh Chris Smiley is one that we've lost from qualifying he's with Luke sadly one of the drivers who's not out there on track Chris what was that session like you don't uh have the excuse these days of um uh not getting a clear lap do you so at least it's easier having less cars out on track in a a circuit like this which is um so so small and so tight absolutely you know you're used to the the years gone past when there was you know 30 cars bombing around there and every time you come out at the end of if a car come out to the end of the pit it screwed that lap and if you caught someone up somewhere else so yeah listen we're we're we're still learning by the car um the car actually feels quite good I just I just don't think we're working the tire in the correct way I think we're not we're not turning the tire on the right way but yeah I'm happy enough with myap you know it's uh it's ever so close you know like 310 would put us right firmly in the top 10 so yeah it's a little bit frustra when you look through the time to see how close you are but yeah it's um I'm looking forward to tomorrow now I think I think our race Bas is quite strong so I think I think where we are uh for starting race one tomorrow I think it's okay um I think if we can sort of box clever in the races and try and get ourselves into a position where we can get ourselves for reverse grid for race three who knows what happen to him tomorrow you know as you never as you know it's never done until it's done in the btcc so like you say every time you go out in the car you're learning stuff about it how much information did you get in that session that that's going to help you going forward tomorrow when it looks like we're going to have once again a lovely sunny day well yeah that's probably that's only the second qualifying session we've had you know with with all the preseason the majority of it being wet that's probably really only our second proper full Tire or new tire run in the dry so yeah to be as close as we are I think it's positive um obviously we do want to get knocked out in q1 that's that's not the name of the game but yeah listen we where we're at at the minute we're we're and and we're determined to you know to get ourselves back up there again and that's and that's and that's where we're going to be so just just need to keep working but yeah I'm Happ I'm happy where we are for for for the meantime uh I think if we if we box ever tomorrow we can get ourselves any reverse grid race for for race three and yeah anything can happen there see you out there thank you well right now out there and doing times are the BMWs of course Hill Morgan turkington is the order uh 7 and a half minutes just over remain as the Tas swapping for the front-wheel drive cars will begin in ear but this is going to be a really dramatic part of qualifying I think in a sense Q2 is perhaps the most dramatic because you know you lose half of the number of cars within it and you've got to be quick to have got this far anyway exactly you've already got the quickest guys out there um the quick is 12 out of 20 So you you're really already into what could be described as the the the final qualifier but it isn't it's to get through and it's tough to get through I I genuinely think that Ingram and uh suton will struggle to get through the into the top sex here okay well Jake Hill is second fastest to call in turkington uh and the only front wheel drive time we've had is that of Josh cook and it's the slowish one a star typ lap of 556 so there's plenty more to come from him if you remember Donnington we were really past the halfway mark before we started to get proper lap times here of course the lap is much shorter much quicker therefore and yet they can do more within the session and therefore the lap times should be with us from the front-wheel drive cars this side of the halfway point not the other side yeah I mean we've got three very fast BMWs and if you look at potentially the quickest three front wheeel drive cars with plenty of hybrid available to them you've got camish you've got Huff you've got robottom uh Josh cook all with a lot of boosts a lot of hybrid available so that makes it incredibly difficult for the likes of Ingram or Sutton with very little to get through so there is Dan camish many people's tip for pole but it's going to be tough for the forward seemingly against some very very quick drivers so got another 11 star drivers to combat here as he comes still quickening the pace I would have said through Clark curve whereas Josh cook is on a push lap and might get himself up to the top of the times because he has done the absolute best within the first sector cookie breaks the beam and does indeed go fastest though 48154 so one of the LKQ Corollas is out the other one is the fastest and that's a quick time because um apart from free practice one you know the cars haven't been in the 47s the quickest uh qualifying uh lap wasn't last year cuz qualifying was wet last year but it was a 475 um in 2022 by Colin turkington but with since then we've actually got a reduced base level of uh of boost um albeit with the hybrid as well there's more so there should be about the same times if the conditions were the same but I think a high 47 would be a very very good time Josh cook still going for it another absolute best within the first sector and with now half the session to go attention will turn not so much to the top but to the bottom to see who's going to get knocked out and at the moment we're still waiting on time from robottom Chilton Pearson half and Watson yep they've all done a new tire run with ti crossed and still about set their time that's Adam Morgan coming up to the line then so he has done the absolute best within sector one this time engineer Steve farell will be on the radio to him to let him know that he goes second fastest at the end of the lap on a 48055 so front-wheel drive rear wheel drive and then front wheeel drive rear wheel drive Ingram is third at turkington he fourth then it's Hill and robot and Watson and Su scrap that Pearson's into the top six now yeah Jake Hill really attacking the curves both that uh raham Hill Paddock everywhere really look searching for every tiny fraction of time that he can pick up Ash suon goes second good time 48-0 very good time right that's Rob half slowest at the moment but this is his first proper lap so let's see where it's going to put him Andrew Watson's just got out of the way of traffic on Cooper straight half to the beam then the Toyota Gazo Racing UK entry goes through up to 10 so it's a step forward but it's not enough to get him into the next element whereas Ash assassin is up to Second and Ingram is Sixth and on the bubble yeah scrap that Morgan's now in second time to coming in thick and fast at the moment but that was a really good lap by S yeah so that puts Ingram now down to uh seventh make it E CU Pearson goes up to seventh so Ingram is out and Saturn with a little bit more hybrid use might well get elbowed back in the pack cuz he's got camish and robot and behind him in the order that's Huff who improves in sector one personal best but not an absolute best still cook quickest such a quick session though only 3 minutes left on the clock you know enough for three stroke four laps depending on where you are at the time you see the hybrid counting up in the bottom there the blue until you get to the full 15 seconds or however much you have available um the drivers are trying to use every scrap of that before they get to the line and half goes ninth so it's an improvement but not enough to get him into the top six the quick six there is Tom Ingram and he is ninth whereas ashs is third and I use those two because they are the drivers with the least amount of hybrid a second a lap for Ingram three a lap for satam Ingram's not given up of course he will continue to push but as Tim was suggesting earlier on it's going to be hard hard to progress although Su for the moment is in yeah with a very good time just to remind you cook is quickest Morgan second saton turkington camish and robotm the top six and on this lap Tom Ingram down in sector one so no improvement there as he comes up towards the line remember he's only got one second of hybrid allocation a LP breaks the beam and goes seventh so he's up the order but not enough even if he doesn't get into the top six and you see the slide pad there even if you can't progress what you are fighting for is a good grid position anyway for race one so there are two parts to the story yeah definitely it still counts and depending on where he qualifies and uh we'll decide for him what tires he starts race one on because we have the option Tire the soft option Tire which is the the quicker of the two tires available tomorrow but don't forget he'll still start race one with less laps of boost than uh anyone else yeah so Tom Ingram there the championship leader currently seventh and we've got a minute and a half to go and now there are fewer improvements to be seen as you look at the team Bristol Street Motors Hyundai coming across the line and another effort by Ingram keeps him seven so no improvement Josh cook has pitted this is Jake Hill who is 12th and out but should be in by the end of this lap let's see cuz as he goes across the timing line no isn't it was a slower second sector so he's got time for two more laps Jake is going to be really leaving this to the very very end isn't he those that are out at the moment Ingram Pearson Chilton HFF Watson and Hill well yeah I'm surprised at Hill unless he's been um uh doing a careful plan to be quick at the end here with his tires and then carry those through into the the final session but I'm surprised he's leaving it right till the end he's going to get one more lap after this what was that first sector it wasn't even a personal best you're right so he's down so what's going on for the BMW as you say there will be one more lap but are the tires struggling here he comes up towards the beam and as he comes through now he is 100 shy of Andrew Watson that lap keeps in 12 so this has got to be the lap of his life yeah Watson jumps up to seven so narrowly very close to getting in the top six but just 3/10 of a second covering all 12 cards so Robo is the one on the bubble Dan robotm six he's got 49,000 in hand over the opposition and the flag is out robotm is coming up to the line and didn't improve in the first sector so a previous brand hat Pole Position winner heads up towards the timing line and is going to remain six and now it's SCH going to be a bit nervy in that car depending on what's going on around him because there are others that are still out there and still trying to push but at the moment and uh the checken flag is out the uh the most impressive performance I think is from saton there with just three uh seconds of hybrid he's got the least amount of hybrid in the Napa racing team of four cars and he's at the moment the highest qualifier well Josh cook is currently the fastest and that would put him into Q3 for the first time this year Adam Morgan is second and that will put him into Q3 for the first time this year and Ash Satan third after as Tim was saying that Mega effort uh his second visit to Q3 then Colin turkington uh who would be a second time visitor to Q3 Dan camish first time he's got this far and Dan robottom likewise so again some different names into Q3 which is exactly what these rules were designed to create um I think Alan gal be very pleased with what he's seeing so far Josh cook the only one in the 47s a 47 uh 956 so that's uh the time to look out for when we go into the final qualifying right then the final part ifying 10 more minutes and this is how we look at the moment with Josh cook Adam Morgan Ash saton Colin turkington Dan camish Dan robottom going through and. 137 of a second covering those six half of which of course are Napa racing Ford focuses so three of the four have gotten this far joined by the two team BMW entries and the surviving LKQ Euro Car Parts with CTIC Toyota Corolla that of Josh cook so we lose from qualifying Andrew Watson Tom Ingram Ronan Pearson Tom Chilton disappointment for the hundes three of them out there uh Rob HW goes and Jake Hill goes as well after a really mysterious session that never seemed to come alive for Jake Hill yeah very strange definitely a story there maybe Louise can find out for us what went wrong with Jake Hill who in a moment we'll step from the car and uh go and talk to the team Tom Ingram is another one that we lose as I say all of the Hyundai's gone R and Pearson session down as well as he takes off the steering wheel ready to wriggle clear of the hyai and the 5 minutes counting down from that last car having arrived not into the pits but at its pit box that's when the 5 minutes uh starts and so the teams have five minutes to do whatever they need to uh some of those cars that are now out go to the scrutineering area up at the top of the pits others join their uh Team further down the pit Lane and uh there Tom Ingram sort of trudges towards the team gave it his best shot he always knew this was going to be tough and race one might be tough as well but then when we get to race two hybrid allocation is based on the race one result so it's a a different story now Jake Hill has much to explain to us he can do it with Louise Jake not the result you would have wanted the guys were just talking about the fact the session never really seemed to come alive for you no not particularly it's I don't know it's really hard to explain I just just a general lack of a grip you know the car's just always moving around it doesn't really feel hunkered into the floor so um yeah for sure a little bit disappointed um but hey we just got to focus forward don't we you know I mean that's what this you know this new system is all about it's about catching people out and it's uh it's got me today it caught you out as you saying qualifying but was the car like that in the three practice sessions as well yeah we struggled a little bit today to be honest it's just um yeah I'm just not not quite happy with the balance but we're getting there you know it's uh it's a it's a long road ahead and you know I'm sure we're going to have a good car come race day tomorrow so we'll be focused see you out there thank you so a disappointed Jake Hill but we know he can race well so he certainly can and he certainly makes good starts his starts at Donington were electric and of course even though he has not progressed at Q3 he's not at the back of the grid he might be mid grid where there's Jeopardy but he's not having to come like Rob HF did in race one at Donington from the very back yeah and uh racing will be very different to qualifying again tomorrow because again as I say with the Tire introduced you know were he to decide to use that in race one he'd be a to have a very fast car so cook Morgan Sutton turkington camish robottom are the six that go through and pole will be taken by I'm not going to say cuz I'm not going to say oh that's a tough one I did say Dan camish to somebody at the start of the day and there he is in into Q3 yeah so he's a possibility he is definitely he's definitely a possibility um as our cook Morgan s keep going that's it thanks read out the six name now let's hear uh from Tom Ingram Louise is down there yeah I've just caught him wandering back down the pit lane from part fer happily we're still with a smile on your face though I've had a long walk in the sunshine back from uh back from part fer we knew that that the hybrid effect was going to be fairly strong around here so I don't think it's a surprise if I'm brutally honest with you I can of saw I thought if we could get into Q3 that's only AB Brucey but I kind of was resid to the fact that we probably weren't going to make it and we were going to be right on the cusp so I'm I'm pleased with eth seventh e8th ninth wherever we were I'm pleased with that of course I'd like to be high it goes without saying but considering the effect that we know it is it should be as I say four to 510 to poll um it's a tenth to Ash it's a 10th to you know what I mean so that there are tenth increments from there so I'm I'm I'm I'm all right I'm I'm okay with that as you say it's done exactly what the system was was designed to do so we've obviously got the additional factor of the idea was that it was lovely last year when we could all be at the front every time a stupid idea we've got the additional stupid idea of the option Tire coming back in tomorrow as well so how do you factor that into your thinking fantastic we'll have to debate it over over over over what would what I would like to do is go now and and enjoy a multier um in the in the sunshine um and discuss a tire plan but incidentally I'll probably have water and a protein shake which is not quite as fun but uh looks like they're getting ready to go for this uh for this last one so I will I will stand from the sidelines and happily watch W with a pair of shorts on that's an image I don't want to take away with me I'll let you go I'll for shorts not my boxer shorts get out of here bye to you guys quickly enough enough wave the White Flag Louise enough uh so Tom Ingram is out but we have the six that will'll go through a reminder are Josh cook out of Morgan Ash satton Colin turkington and Dan camish and Dan robottom it will be another 10 minutes again the rear wheel drive cars will offer up the times early the front-wheel drive cars will do a tire Cross and then it gets all exciting at the very end and this is the final part of qualifying then so this will determine the first three rows effectively the rest of the grid barring any penalties uh are decided but this will sort out the positions for the top six on the grid yeah and it is fascinating isn't it to see who has managed with their engineer to adapt the car to the hot conditions we've got here um because you know we're seeing amongst teammates some struggles we've seen Aiden mofet struggle but Josh cook is strong um we're seeing Jake Hill struggle but uh Adam Morgan and turkington going well it's all about just adapting your car they are very sensitive to small changes Dick Bennett was saying that um Colin turkington could feel a difference in the balance just with a quarter turn on one side of the roll bar um so very very sensitive yeah and this is where the experienced drivers with years of knowledge of of if you like how subtle a change can influence this spec of touring car they're going to come into their own yeah and also to not get uh not get too phased when the car doesn't feel like it did say at the last meeting in different conditions you know that everyone else is struggling you've got to adapt so more from the pit Lane Lou is with Rob Huff well in the Panic actually Tim because sadly not out there anymore but that was your first qualifying session back in the British T CS it went a little bit better than last time didn't it yeah definitely the first session first session was really good um second in that and only uh I think half a tenth or something to to P1 the car felt really good um we did probably something a bit unorthodox with tires in the sense that we just put two on for for Q2 and uh we did a cross at the beginning and we should never have done the cross for me the rears just had too much temperature in them gave me too much grip where I didn't want it and uh it just shifted the balance and you know you can't afford to do things like that but you know I'm new I'm learning hindsight's a wonderful thing isn't it very much is but we know for next time so that's a good thing cheers and that's exactly what I mean about adapting to the conditions you know the tire temperature is critical to the balance of the car particularly on a front-wheel drive car and the uh choice to go with just two new tires or change two and getting the temperatures wrong between the front and the rear um basically screwed his balance and therefore his lap time but as he said he's he learned from it so you're looking at Colin turkington something rather nostalgic about seeing a sit in a BMW logo on the front of the car Frank sitner of course in the 198 is one of the Main Stays of the British Touring Car Championship not always in BMWs he did have a half season in a Rover uh but Colin turkington then heading through clearways into Clark curve now and then towards the timing line and this ought to be a lap that puts him at the top of the times over his teammates Adam Morgan interestingly like we saw in the second part of qualifying Josh cook is the sort of Trailblazer for the front-wheel drive cars yeah he he basically has been staying out hasn't he rather than because he obviously feels the balance and like I said the tire temperature that works for him comes without crossing the tires over it is a hot day so you don't always need to cross the tires that's to get temperature in the rears but he's obviously comfortable with how they heat up just staying on the rear axle um so uh very all credit to him it's exact a driver has to have the courage of his convictions and do exactly what he wants to do back to Colin turkington running as we've said before the number 20 this year to celebrate his 20 seasons of British Touring Car Championship competition so turkington and Morgan will be the drivers that offer at the time's early doors but then it's after if you like the next lap from the front-wheel drive cars that their proper lap times will start to be facted in a way up the curve launches Adam Morgan uh who has had one career British TN Car Championship poll position and if you bear in mind that although there are 30 races there are only 10 qualifying sessions a year um getting a pole position actually is pretty impressive yeah it's quite rare isn't it um and that's why they have bragging rights but we'll probably have more Pole Position uh um winners this year than ever before thanks to hybrid and thanks to uh this quick six format right turkington then on this lap has done a personal best in the first sector whereas Adam Morgan with more hybrid has done an absolute best so turkington goes through and Adam Morgan flashes past the camera as well heading up towards the timing line here he comes this is Adam Morgan and will he go top he should go top and he does go top yeah and that match is the time that cook did in his second session room 479 and we're almost at halfway point now as Adam Morgan poers up the hill goes towards Druids and Josh cook third we've still yet to get a timeout of the Napa fors aka the other half of the entry in this so that's robottom a little bit frustrated that he was in the gravel in fp2 and he and Dan camish with 15 seconds a lap of hybrid uh more than Ash Sutton has of course right camish goes through and goes fifth uh so you've got cook suon cish robotm the order of the front-wheel drive drivers yeah robotm absolutely on the limit through padak Bend wasn't he uh very exciting to watch as was his teammate camish coming out of Druids down the hill watch for the hybrid light in the rear window cookie coming out of the final Corner again up the inside of the road coming up to the line and does this move him up no he stays third yeah he's got to find uh 700s of a second or 71,000 to move up but Ash Satan does go up ahead of him so Ash Satan despite only 3 seconds of hybrid a lap goes third fastest turkington in the meantime has done an absolute best in the first sector Dan cish has had a lap time taken off him for track limit abuses and that's why the more significant now it is you just can't afford to lose laps at the moment when your tires are at their Peak uh there isn't time to come back from it um I mean there's only a short amount of time but if that was when his tires at his Peak it will be a a mistake he'll R but he has obviously got three and a half minutes left uh on the clock conin turkington seven seconds of high allocation per lap only 13th in free practice 2 and yet at the moment he is the man topping the Times by 500th of a second this is Dan camish who needs to fight back he's on the hybrid coming up to the line he's run out of it now he improved in the first sector and as he comes to the line he goes up to third quickest turkington Morgan cish the order then suon cook and roboton yeah great great lap by Colin turkington that's even quicker than cookie lap before now 48 478 uh on the times and he's half a half a tenth uh away right what about Robos him to improve before the end you're looking at camish third and as he gets to the end of Cooper straight with a flash of the lights there is traffic ahead of him uh he will be trying to improve so will Dan Rob botom who did improve his time on the last lap but he doesn't improve his sector time camish has gone quicker in sector one ahead of him though yeah Green Personal Best in sector one which is all the way down the the bottom great so nearly at the end of the lap camish on the uh hybrid does this improve no he actually stays third but with a personal best and an absolute best but even adding those together we still didn't move up so quirky so that tells you that the first sector is where he's losing the time yeah um right the best sectors as you can see down by Colin turkington and uh Dan camish we have got just over two minutes of the session to go and Colin kington and Adam Morgan lock out at the moment the front of the grid but for Ash suon with 3 seconds of hybrid to come out a qualifying fourth overall which is where he is at the moment if things stay as they are fourth overall for satam that you could argue is the drive of the day well no question about it you know we we were stunned when Sutton used to put the car on pole with 75 kilos um we really didn't I know he has had a little bit couple of seconds more hybrid than Tom Ingram had but nevertheless as opposed to Carl's with 15 seconds or 30 seconds it's a huge disparity you know we're talking real T of a second so yes that is a a fantastic time by uh uh by su and all of a sudden not a single Improvement look at that timing Tower yellow everywhere you want greens or purples and it's all yellow which suggests that the tires have done their best well the window on a new set of tires in these temperatures is very very narrow it's a couple of laps really to get the peak of the tire when it's in its uh perfect temperature right that is slowing something down look he's still pushing really hard but nobody improving within sector one and Josh cook Bales so he's fifth comes in with a minute to spare so Josh cook to The Pit Road and that will be uh his best of the season if he's fifth because he was eight long into par and remember these will be race tires for tomorrow so there's no point in blasting round if you're just not going any quicker no true enough and indeed Sutton slows down now look he's he's bail and cish had another lap time disallowed so Dan camish twice losing a lap they're going through scrutineering is Josh cook ride height checked weight checked and we've still got 22 seconds to go but how many people are going to stay out and take the check of flag remains to be seen because as Tim rightly says if you're not improving you're just wasting the tires well both uh BMWs were flashing past the start Finish Line clearly starting a lap um unless their Engineers tell them to abort their they're definitely still pushing Dan roboton who ends up sixth so he's got further than he did at Donington like camish but would like to been higher up but of course when there are only six places at play and both BMWs have now aborted their lap so I think that will be the position so I think turkington will have the poll for the 28th time in his career so Colin turkington is the fastest 7 Seconds of hybrid allocation a lap and using it to very good effect as he will make his way now down the pit Lane Colin turkington then uh who got himself into Q3 at Donnington he was third at Donington Park in the qualifying session so he's gone better than that and we're going to have this all season much jumbling from race to race yeah and we're going to have two BMWs on the front row of the grid aren't we so uh that make good starts that make good starts exactly but I think uh the man that would be really pleased will be saton um a terrific performance to line up on the second row of the grid um cook didn't quite match the time he did in uh second practice but here's your result of the final part of qualifying Q3 topped by Colin turkington a 28 career pole ahead of Adam Morgan and Dan camish Ash San fourth with only 3 seconds a lap of hybrid power against many with 15 Josh cook fifth Dan Robos some six that is going to be a BMW lockout at the front of the grid and a really fascinating order for race one tomorrow here at br's hatch so Colin turkington then the fastest that's Ash sass just going through the technical check got Dan robon behind him then Adam Morgan uh and I think Colin turkington is going to be at the rear of the que the BMW is having stayed out right to the very end so uh one by one those final six go through the uh technical check fill down the screws near the front says that's it stop now we can put the roller underneath which checks the ride height of the car then the uh weight panels go underneath car push forward they're called scales the um those panels thank you very much yeah I I usually break them when I [Laughter] stand I had to have all my equipment checked obviously before I drove the car yesterday um only def find that most of my overalls were out of date um and then I was asked to uh to weigh myself I avoided that Lou down with Ash Sutton um Ash that was uh that was Tim's five of the afternoon that was must have been some some effort to get that that lap out with so little hybrid honestly Louise I was just s to the boys on the radio that is the hardest qualifying session I've ever ever had to do so pleased with that obviously F to cl's not really got much less hybrid but he's uh stuck it at the front so yeah I'm pleased with that pleased with up raceing UK it's good for the team both hands are there as well so uh see what tomorrow brings tell us more about why Hardis just in terms of getting the lap time out of the car all managing the session and managing the tires as it went on but yeah it's more the it's more just a hybrid the the hybrid side of it is so huge that we can be looking my Delta to someone we brought full deployment is nearly 410 so um well it is 410 so it's you BT 410 of that lap time there I mean we're we're we're sitting pretty so I think it's it's highlighted with Tom being where he is how hard it really is I think from the Geto with the car's been really dialed in um fb1 I was Mega happy with the car fp2 we didn't throw a tire at it so we kind of entered the unknown a little bit but um yeah please pleased with that Mega Place well done good stuff um I will um I can see no uh I'll wait I'll hand back to you guys actually if you're still there whil the I wait for a few more drivers to get out of their cars thanks Louise yeah interesting listening to Ash it was out of breath you don't often find drivers out of breath that shows you how hard he had to try yeah and the thing is you don't just have to do one quick lap now like you would in a normal 30 minutes out you've got to do it three times so you've got to find the peak three times to to get where he's got um and that takes some e you know concentration mental focus delivering the lap taking risk cuz you're taking a lot of risk in qualifying and not surprisingly in these conditions he looks like he's had a bit of a workout well absolutely and fourth a reward then uh but an all BMW front row is pretty impressive Adam Morgan second behind Colin turkington and uh Adam Morgan out of his BMW Colin turkington joins that throng and uh Louise has Adam Morgan second fastest missed out by just 500s of a second Luke yeah I do indeed have Adam Morgan he's just had a big as he got out of the car hot out there yeah hard work it's a bit of a shock to the system you know all the preseason testing we've doing it's been no more than 10° and we've come here and it's 20 odd so and being ginger doesn't help as well you know um but no mega result you know hats off to Colin what a job you know with the amount of hybrid he has uh is is pretty good but I'll take pretty2 any day P2 any day that's uh that's a good result and puts is in a really strong position for tomorrow aside from this not being the perfect um conditions for your skin tone did you have a smile on your face when you woke up this morning cuz it is pretty much the perfect conditions for your car isn't it yeah the hot weather does suit the rear wheel drive and the BMW um and I came here quietly confident you know I we had an fairly average Donington which meant we were in p8 in the championship so we had maximum hybrid and all I wanted to do this weekend was maximize qualifying and apart from him I've done it but uh no massive thank you to sic commercials Matt HS let's go again tomorrow it's going to be a fight off the line between you to tomorrow isn't it I might win that one well we'll see but uh no we've we've put ourselves in the best spot we we know we're quite strong off the line uh there's going to be some Tire choices that we have to make soft or medium in race one and then we'll go from there and fight it out on track we will see you out there in the meantime let's Wonder around cuz Colin is now uh out of the car just talking with uh with his engineer and uh and with dick so I will see if I can dive in with my microphone and uh grab a grab a word with him so congratulations poll position that is a fantastic result isn't it yeah thank you Louise yeah quite unexpected you know I was thinking uh for making into the the fast six I i' have done really well I'd be happy with that so um you know it's weird being out there because you never really know where you are because with the rear wheeel drive car you tend to do the lap time a bit earlier than the front-wheel drive you know they're coming in cross TIR so you do your lap and then you just got to wait and and see where it puts you but um yeah you know we we took the 5 minutes between each session just to nudge the car in the right direction and bit like Donnington each time we're sort of finding a couple of tents so uh yeah amazingly close uh you know the first my dick just showed me the times with the first three uh but yeah great to have two BMWs on the front row and boats really well for tomorrow I just been having um a bit of a joke I think it was with with Adam when I was asking him about you know the jump off the line tomor and he said yeah I'm going to get that one but it it is I mean with with two BMWs up the front it really is which one of you is going to be into the the first Corner first isn't it or am I oversimplifying things well in theory yes you know if it was easy and uh uh we didn't have to think too hard about it then then then yes uh I'm sure there will be a BMW into the into the first Corner first uh but you know you know I think I just had the perfect amount of hybrid there uh being fourth in the championship give me seven seconds so I had enough to get me out of clear West to the start Finish Line so that sort of negates anything that anybody else on on on the you know on the grid has and you know two years ago here I was I was on pole you know with pretty much an identical car so uh we knew we had something good to bring to the table so uh yeah I'm just really pleased for for everybody it's one thing to get that result a one LP with the amount of hybrid you've got how tricky is it going to be to manage that situation over a race distance yeah of course more difficult um and again we have to choose which which Tire you know tomorrow we now have option tires so for one of the three races uh we can use the soft compound so uh we have to decide tonight you know when do we use that race one or do we use a race three so um no matter what option you choose you have wish you'll have wish you to pick the other option but um certainly we've got we've got the raw Pace on on the medium tire but um I think I have enough laps of hybrid in the race I'm still you know like to Tom Ingram and Ash don't have too many to play with but I'm sort of stuck in the middle somewhere so yeah not looking too bad going to be interesting as you said it's going to be interesting with those with those tires this year since tomorrow let's uh sneak up and have a word with uh the uh the best place front-wheel drive car um out there today and um Dan tough session I mean Ash has just got out of the car everybody's getting out of the car and saying that was a tough session but you got the maximum out of it I think we did you know I'm I'm certainly certainly a bit sweatier than when I started it was a hot session you know it's a long time now um I'm not entirely sure sure about the rules so I was I was a little bit skeptical about getting out in between sort of the groups I didn't want to obviously find myself in a hot you know hot hot water so I um I stayed in the car as we all did and it is it is warm here today and these cars get stiflingly hot but yeah I mean from where we from where I felt we were in in raw Pace I'm really pleased that we're you know to turn that around I don't think we had that is the best car I've had all day um and we've worked hard to get it there so yeah of course I look at the BMS and think God few M Mill hunds here or milliseconds there we' have been on the been on the front row but um you know Sly done a good job really lovely weather for them um yeah I'm I'm really pleased to be on the front I'm not sure there were a lot left in it I'm I'm I'm thinking back where I can find more what I am happy about though is it seems consistent I consistently sort of sector one was able to it draws you win because you see the dash and it saying you know you're halfway around the lap and it's like 0.0 like you are matching yourself all you've got to do is find a little bit in two corners well easier said than done that is um you know you can either overdrive underdrive I mean you're looking it's a track where you're looking for The Hundreds um you know and just didn't quite have enough today for Paul but I'm happy to be starting right at the front and is what you found going to translate through into tomorrow in terms of race Pace as well I think so I'm I say I'm really happy about how how the car hung on you know I kept even on the second to last lap I said to the team I said I think that's about me done but I thought I'm going to give it one more go that's said I got halfway around and was like this this is still basically my lap I'm matching my own lap here so if I can find anything else I will but no it's um I think we got a sensible race car if it's weather like this you know you got to say the BMWs are going to they're going to come off the line incredibly well we saw that Donson I don't know um obviously they do work over the winter like we all do but they look they look very good off the line uh I don't expect to lead into one I expect them to and then let's see if we can get in amongst it in the race uh got some fast guys behind two of them are painted the same color so hopefully we behave um but yeah good chance for all of us to score some points tomorrow and uh it's a long season I feel a fun one coming on we'll see we'll see you out there oh you too good good stuff back to you guys thanks well we knew it was going to be an interesting session it certainly has proved to be so an all BMW front row but uh just just heroic efforts by as Satan yeah and they've earn their money today haven't they it was uh hot work today and three races tomorrow can't wait to see them they'll earn their money even more then I will indeed so it's going to be a busy day of racing from br's hatch tomorrow because as ever all the support race drama will come as well with minis with Porsches with formula 4 and legends uh on that support Bill and so uh support racing in fact getting underway at BR hatch now but tomorrow's action then on itv4 uh will be of course uh full of excitement and we will be on air from 11:00 in the buildup to the first touring car race uh on the Indie circuit so in conditions that we expect will be pretty similar to today it's going to be a glorious day of racing at br's hatch itv4 the place to watch it all from 11 tomorrow and we'll see you tomorrow morning for now from Tim Harvey Lise Goodman and David Addison it's goodbye from Brand [Applause] [Music] all
