2024 BMW X2 M35i -- Same Style for HALF the Price of BMW X6??

what's going on YouTube so as the popularity of Coupe SUVs has risen BMW recognized that people at all price points might want a piece of the pie and that's where this allnew BMW X2 comes in with sexy coup likee design with that more affordable price tag so is this the cool SUV for you let's go ahead and find out [Music] all right so let's go ahead and start things out under the hood so all versions of this X2 will come with a 2 L turbocharged 4-cylinder engine either makes 200 and 41 horsepower or 312 horsepower with this M35 enhanced performance version we have a 7-speed dual clutch automatic transmission standard all-wheel drive and 26 MP gon combined now later on in this review we will be taking this out for a test drive and on that test drive we're going to be getting things like our signature sound level reading now after that we'll also be discussing pricing and a new element to our reviews predicted resale value and reliability so be sure you be sure to stay tuned for those things but let's first close up the hood and take a detailed look at the exterior as well as the interior so as far as the exterior design is concerned bold and unique are really the ways to explain this exterior design now for those of you not familiar this is the second generation of the X2 sold in the US and what this basically is is the Bolder sportier coup like version of the X1 and you're going to notice that right up here in the front the grill is so so much more pronounced than what you get in the X1 especially when you choose to have the M35 model which comes with the M sport appearance automatically as you can see everything is going to be quite bold very large uh flared out kidney grills here these are going to be surrounded in Chrome you can black these out with the shadow line package it is also illuminated as well I'm noticing around the outside edges the lower fascia here is obviously extremely aggressive this is all finished in a gloss black and just makes for a very bold look you got this cool design here on the hood and that takes us over here to our headlights which of course are fully LED they've got the latest BMW Crystal design and we also have the new Arrow uh fading turn signal and daytime running lights now as aggressive as the front design is it's the back that really gets a lot of attention this is a bold look for sure and and a big departure even from the previous generation yeah absolutely and I think it brings in a couple those elements from the X4 and the more expensive X6 to really give you that coup like design now I'm going to go ahead and break down some of the individual elements and Drew is going to hop inside and we're going to take Che take a look at our taill Light Elements as well now one thing I do want to point out is that we do not have a rear wiper because the glass is so sloped off I guess BMW doesn't think you need one and then you do also have a big blacked out spoiler here for the m35i it is just very aggressive looking as far as our tail lights are concerned this is an all new design for the BMW X2 so uh we do have a very unique kind of squared off shape to it and as far as the tail ey elements they are all going to be led so you do have an LED brake light portion an LED reverse light and an LED turn signal indicator now dropping down to this lower area we do have all of this is kind of a squared off overall finish all of it is really going to be finished in this piano black which I really like as far as exposed exhaust Ellet you don't get any exposed exhaust on the 28i model if you choose the m35i you're going to get quad exhaust outs I love the way the quad exhaust looks and let's go ahead and take a [Music] list now in terms of wheel selections you have a range between 19 and 21 in this is the standard 20in alloy wheel that you get with the m35i model I like the way this looks it has has a kind of cool double v design that looks pretty unique like the rest of the exterior you also will notice that we have these nice blue finish brake calipers Rising above here to our mirrors um on this model you are going to have standard blind spot monitoring and heating the M35 is also going to throw in Auto dimming as well as power folding with these unique mwing design mirrors now here at the side you're once again going to see that very coup like SUV shape that a lot of you guys really love and I do kind of want to point out though it's a little bit more squared off than a lot of the other Coupe SUVs in the BMW lineup it has a little bit of a chunkier look to the overall shape now as far as the safety systems are concerned I do want to dive into this because BMW is throwing in three out of your four active safety features as standard equipment on the X2 you can also option on adaptive cruise control with their active driving assistant so there is a lot of cool functionality that that can do but it is going to be an option here on the X too well guys there is a lovely interior that we need to check out but first if you're new here we're brothers and we've been reviewing cars since we were 12 and 16 we may be young but we love cars and we'd love for you to subscribe to be a part of our car Confections family let's learn a lot have some fun with all the latest cars now let's head to the inside first we'll look at the key fob this has a very nice key fob this is BMW's latest design since it's the M35 you get the M finish so it's got the M colors as well as the full piano black um smart entry will be standard on M35 available in the convenience package and you also have digital key and remote start now getting inside just reach behind the handle there is a sensor and you flip up this door handle like that and then take a look inside the anterior obviously as I mentioned earlier the sister car to this model is the BMW X1 so you'll notice a good deal of similarity between the two but there are also some special uh sportier touches as well let's start off by talking about our seats though so we are going to begin things out with a a leatherette seat most models will come with the leatherette that is what we have as well but since it's the M35 we have the performance bucket seats so as you can see we have really nice thick bolsters it's a a pretty narrow seat that really holds you in place and then you've got the perforation that runs through the center section in terms of adjustment you have quite a few adjustments um you even have the uh manual thigh extension one thing I am noticing though is that we don't have a lumbar adjustment on this particular seat but I believe you can upgrade to get that over here you have your memory seats located in the door trim but let's go ahead and climb inside now we mentioned at the beginning this is one of your more affordable BMW SUVs especially with this much style and the inside is surprisingly very nicely finished and it is also stylish as well so over here on our door trim you have the leatherette covering it's really going to run from top to bottom because we have it through here and through here with a unique texture through this section you are going to notice that that will continue up across the entire upper Dash all through here we have some real metal accents some ambient lighting um you have a variety of different like textured metals and things that you can choose from this is a really cool look but you can't get wood on this model just because it's a little bit of a you know sportier look than the X1 and then down in your lower areas you do have some piano black trim now your new push button start is going to be located on this floating panel and we'll go ahead and fire it up all right so now let's get into uh individual details we'll start with our gauge cluster this is a 10 and A4 full digital gauge cluster um you can reconfigure of course all the different things you see the inside of this display you can also add an additional head-up display although we don't have it on today's example now coming back to the steering wheel this is one of my very favorite elements about this interior we have just a a gorgeous M design steering wheel you have the thick Rim all the latest M elements with the stitching details you even have these giant paddle shifters back here um behind the steering wheel itself now of course it is also going to be manual tilt and telescoping and heating is an available option now let's talk a little bit about interior storage it is one of the more unique elements about this product because like I mentioned earlier we have this kind of floating console and you can store tiny objects inside of here so little loose objects you're afraid you might lose you can stick inside of this but otherwise the rest of your storage is going to need to be inside of this um kind of uh Center pass through basically we have this loaded down with donuts cuz this car infections after all so we like to do the donut test that is our emblem and uh this fits a reasonable number of them but as you can see it doesn't really you know actually contain them so this is not a traditional console in that respect um you'll have to keep your Donuts inside of the glove block properly now the other storage area is going to be up there in the very front this is a wireless phone charging pad that just kind of locks into place with this taking a look at our shifter it's the latest nub design just pull back for drive you can use those paddle shifters I was pointing out earlier and then go in to R for reverse this is a standard backup camera system so as you can see we do have active guidelines we also have front and rear parking sensors um BMW does have an available 360 camera for those of you who want that additional option and then just press the P right behind there to go into park now also f loading out on this console area is going to be our um audio control for our audio system on this m35i this is a 12 speaker Harmon cardan sound system we'll give it a [Music] [Music] sample yeah overall sound quality is really good as you would expect also o like the unique design to the metal speaker grills that BMW has um it's something that we first saw in really high-end products like the 7 Series now we even have that here in our more affordable X2 all right so let's move up to our uh main display area this display is a 10.7 in display it is part of this of course new dual display setup that BMW is using and it is running iDrive 9.0 the latest and greatest version now the lower section is going to be dedicated to your climate controls primarily so as you can see this is how you would adjust your temperature up and down if I tap on that that it's also going to give me the ability to turn on my optional heated seats and my optional steering wheel which both have three stages I should point out that seat ventilation is not offered some additional functionality is going to be inside of that rate there now in terms of functions of iDrive 9.0 you have all the main things you're going to be looking for so you have built-in navigation system of course um the arrangement of how things operate is going to be a little different with these flipping tiles and then all your apps are going to be located right there you do also have wireless Android auto and apple carplay abilities as we come above here we have an auto dimming mirror and on today's example we don't have any sunroof but you can get a panoramic style sunroof as an available option so let's go ahead and dive into what you get in the rear re seat area of this BMW X2 now back here we don't have official leg room and Headroom figures from BMW just yet this is a very early review of this model uh however you know we review a lot of cars hundreds of cars every year so as far as the overall specs I'm thinking this is going to be around 36 to 38 in of leg room as far as uh you know measuring devices we did bring a ruler because this is car Confections after all so we can see how much knee room there is with the seat adjusted to Drew who's 5'8 I'm 5'9 and we're still sitting at about 6 in of additional knee space so not a bad amount of leg room my feet can also slide up underneath the seat and probably the thing you're most curious about is the Headroom because this is a you know small SUV and it also has that Coupe likee design and I'm very happy to tell you the Headroom is pretty solid in this X2 it's really not much worse than something like a BMW X4 or X6 now as far as here in the center we do have vents as standard equipment we also have two charging USB ports there's a little store cubby down below that however do be aware uh heated rear seats are not available these seats also do not slide or recline now as far as the armrest we can fold that down we have two cup holders inside and as far as the door trim is concerned made of the same materials as the front so we have leather rat all on the upper portion Nice metal speaker grills and we also have leather rat all through the middle and on the armrest portion plus a little bit of bottle storage down in the very bottom and let's also discuss how much cargo capacity you have with this allnew X2 now in order to get back here uh you just actually press in on the BMW logo that's going to power open your trunk which is standard a fe a standard feature by the way as far as the uh cargo dimensions are concerned 25 cubic feet behind the second row of seats if we fold those seats down we're looking at around 52 cubic feet so as far as how that compares of course it is going to be a little bit less cargo space than the BMW X1 but that is a good amount of space really um in terms of this being a small SUV and once again having that coup likee design I'm pleasantly surprised by that cargo figure that's for sure now there are not any handles to fold the second row down from here so I will have to go up there and do it manually do keep in mind though it folds 40 20 40 split and of course I brought my tape measure so we could see how long the overall cargo length is from Drew's seating position he's 5'8 remember we're looking at about 71 in of overall cargo length if you're curious as to how much cargo length behind the second row we're sitting at about 38 in of cargo length and as far as the overall width about 37 in wide so overall it's a little bit more practical than you would think out of this X2 then down underneath of the floor we actually have a significant amount of additional space so I'm also very happy to see that as you can see it goes all the way up a very good distance it's a at least a additional couple cubic feet or more maybe even 5 cubic feet underneath the floor [Music] here's a little taste of acceleration obviously as we were discussing at the spec dump this is the m35i model which means of course it is the higher performance so you still have a 2 L turbocharged 4-cylinder engine but this is enhanced so that is going to be a substantial power Improvement we're up to 312 horsepower the standard model also has a 2 L turbo 4 but that one is rated at 241 horsepower yeah so pretty big uh power increase for this as far as the torque it's 295 lb feet of torque um for this model um it also comes in at 295 lbet of torque with the standard 28i as well but really I think the torque pushes you back in your seat and that additional power for having the m335i version I think is also quite impressive yeah yeah very nice 060 on this is a little over five yeah was a low fives yeah according to BMW 0 to 60 on the M35 is 5.2 seconds the 28i is nothing to sleep on either that comes in at 6.2 seconds so very good 0 to 60 on both versions of this X2 that's for sure yeah definitely enough to push you back in your seat let's talk about the other aspect of the powertrain so this is a 7-speed dual clutch automatic transmission um obviously dual clutches are primarily used in you know higher performance applications so it matches pretty nicely to this um rather high output turbocharged 4-cylinder engine overall you know shifts are going to be really Snappy and quick which is you know the [Music] point I will also say I do quite enjoy the sound of it it's not it's not the b58 level type a Powertrain in terms of sound and character but I will say that this 2 L turbo 4 in the m35i doeses have character to it it definitely has a a nice tone I think you're going to appreciate as we kind of go around some Corners here overall of course uh handling is quite nice with this model I'm really impressed by the uh responsiveness of the steering in particular it's very fast as you can see you get that immediate response from it um also body roll is well controlled so as you go around you don't see any types of um or too much body roll at [Music] all now that we're in sport you can definitely hear the exhaust more uh does the popping that I really like every shift very nice overall change there one of the things I also want to point out is that this vehicle does come standard with adaptive dampers in the m35i version um so we have adaptive dampers So that obviously is going to help your overall um feel behind the wheel you know dynamically speaking Yeah of course steering is even sportier but the ride is definitely tighter yeah now I'm going to go ahead and switch it back into just the you know standard setting calm down that exhaust so we can get a sound level reading going 55 miles hour I'm going to go ahead and put it on fan speed one 54.2 Deb is our official sound level reading going 55 mph in the BMW W X2 now that is a very good sound level reading that is for sure but I don't have to sit here and guess cuz I can actually go to car Confections docomond L readings and on our website uh we posted all of the sound level readings um for all the cars that we've tested and that's a lot of cars so you'll want to go check that out for sure and as far as how that compares among its luxury subc compact Rivals that actually is going to be the second quietest vehicle that we've ever tested in this segment um it's going to be a little bit um louder than the Lexus ux 250h that we tested out but a little quieter than the Q3 so very impressive sound level reading we've really gotten that in a lot of our past BMW reviews they've done a great job of insulating these all new BMW products to make sure that they're nice and quiet inside of the cabin now one of the other things I do want to talk about is your fuel economy now as far as the fuel economy is concerned for this m35i model we're sitting at 23 322 26 M a gall combined that is very good fuel economy especially for something with this level of performance the 28i model um has not officially been rated just yet um however we do expect it to remain the same as something like a BMW X1 which comes in at 208 m a gallon combined so very good fuel economy out of both powertrain setups but I'm honestly more impressed with this m35i model because it's higher performance of course has a sportti character but you're not really losing much in terms of the fuel econ department now I wanted to quickly talk about the ride quality of course I mentioned just a little bit ago that you do have adaptive dampers on this X2 M35 standard um and you know one of the good things about that is that now that we're back in just the regular drive mode it is a very nice riding vehicle now will you feel some bump intrusion when you drive the X2 absolutely you will um I think that's really kind of the point of this vehicle is to have a little bit of a sportier character so it definitely does have a sportier driving Dynamic than some of the other BMW crossovers like the X3 for example but you know overall the ride quality is going to be certainly satisfactory and if you get the you know m35i with the Adaptive dampers I think that gives you a lot of adjustability so I would recommend getting that set up just because it's a very adjustable suspension that's for sure and I also love these seats these seats are very nice they hug you in place very nicely that's what I was going to say they uh sometimes the base seats can be uncomfortable these are they're very supportive they're pretty soft and they have really nice bolsters and you know I also want to go ahead and talk about our airball and slam dunk so Drew do you want to kick us off with the slam dunk yeah so the slam dunk I actually think and this is interesting but I think it's the packaging and that's because it's one of the elements that really surpris us about this new X2 normally when a brand kind of translates a conventional shape into a more coup like SUV they lose a lot of utility but this still has a very practical very usable amount of cargo capacity the back seats are very very similar to the uh X1 including Headroom even so that's quite impressive that you can add the style without compromising too much on the packaging yeah and as far as our airball is concerned this of course will depend on what you think personally but we are going to say it's that style it certainly has a little bit more of a controversial design than what you would find in an X1 um for example so you know whether you like that or not that's of course the reason you'd buy this X2 but it's going to be a little bit more controversial than a X1 that's for sure and last things to discuss here with this X2 uh would be your warranty so we have a 4year 50,000 Mi basic and uh powertrain warranty for this model you do also get 3 years of complimentary maintenance and now let's go ahead and talk pricing for this BMW X2 now as far as the pricing is concerned we do start at $42,000 for this model and the uh m35i starts at $51,500 now that does represent a little bit of a price premium over X1 as you would expect um but not too much it's only a few thousand now uh this particular model we have a few options on it but we're very lightly optioned for a BMW as tested today $ 54,9 after $9.95 destination and if you're looking to buy a BMW X2 or any new vehicle we would encourage
