foreign I'll be reviewing one of the most desirable off-road SUVs you could buy today this is a 2023 Toyota 4Runner TRD Pro now the very first Forerunner TRD Pro was introduced eight years ago and very very very little change since then but it doesn't matter this is still one of the most desirable SUVs because of its off-road capabilities its exterior looks its dependability it's reliability it's resale value and so much more in this review video let me tell you more about this 4Runner TRD Pro so you could decide if this is the right SUV for you so let's start off by talking about what makes a TRD Pro so special what makes it stand out from a normal Forerunner well from the outside it's quite easy to spot especially if you pick out one of the very cool colors like this one solar octane you're not going to see this color on a normal Forerunner or really any other stock SUV out there it's a bright orangey red ish color and it really makes this TRD 4Runner pop in addition to the color you could definitely tell that the Forerunner TRD Pro is higher off the ground it sits really high off the ground 9.6 inches of ground clearance versus nine inches of a regular 4Runner and that's primarily due to the wheels and tires so take a look at the wheels 17 inch TRD exclusive Wheels I love the design but look at those midi all-terrain tires yes you're not going to find this wheel and tire setup on a normal Forerunner and it definitely gives this TRD Pro a awesome stance a awesome look I'm a big fan the root basket is really solid so you're not gonna have to worry about it breaking or anything like that you can throw whatever you want up there the front end of a TRD Pro looks very different than a normal forerunner's front end it just looks more aggressive and everything on the outside is blacked out all the trim pieces are black you're not going to see a lot of chrome and when you combine it all together this Forerunner TRD Pro is an amazing looking SUV it looks like a masculine SUV not a crossover a normal Forerunner already looks great but a TRD Pro just takes it up several notches now what else separates a TRD Pro from a normal Forerunner of course it's its off-road capabilities starting from the front take a look at that giant skid plate right underneath the engine it's like 0.3 inches thick made of aluminum solid you can see that nice TRD logo stamp right on top obviously that's to protect your Underside now in addition to that skid plate you also get specially tuned Fox shocks all round that is different obviously it changes the way this TRD Pro feels on the road but also makes it better when going off-road now of course when you're going off-road you want to make sure you don't get stuck and it's virtually impossible to get stuck inside this Forerunner because of what it has now there's a two-speed transfer case too high four high and four low so of course you encounter something that needs four-wheel drive shift into four high or four low not only that you do have a locking rear differential which you can enable also there's a traction system called a track which will break the wheel that's slipping to give you more torque on the wheel that isn't slipping and lastly you have multi-terrain select and the best way to think about it is it's traction control for the off-road so if you are in mud and sand in snow you're on Boulders rocks gravel right multi-terror select will allow you to select a setting and the Forerunner will kind of take care of business it'll enable a track but also kind of take things at a certain speed and just make sure that you're able to Traverse pretty much anything and of course Toyota gives you the multi-train view system the cameras all around there 4Runner so you can see what's on your left side what's in it right side what's in front of you what's behind you right so the exterior looks and the off-road capabilities are really what makes this Forerunner TRD Pro different from a forerunner there are a few other little things but they're small for example inside you do see TRD stitch on the headrest right you see a TRD shifter little things like that that separate it and also you do see some nice stitching on the inside and our TRD Cat-Back it does change the sound of this Forerunner quite a bit and when I test out acceleration you guys will hear it [Music] in terms of features you pretty much get all the features that you would find in a modern SUV for example you get a heated steering wheel heated seats up front check right push button start uh smart key check you have a modern infotainment system it's an eight inch screen this was updated a few years ago the resolution the graphics still not the best but you do get Apple carplay Android auto the essentials and of course radio and and everything else that's good okay safety features Toyota added Toyota safety sense p and all 4Runners this year gets blind spot monitoring and rear cross traffic alert included including this TRD Pro so safety you also get you have a little screen inside your gauge cluster it's like a three or four inch screen and it allows you to scroll through a variety of things off-road features your trip computer settings right it works it's nice it's there you also get a sunroof you have two USB ports back there for back passengers you also have one up here and another plug up here great you get a 360 surround view that's part of the multi-terrain view system but you could use it when you're parking when you're driving around in tight spaces you get that as well and one of the most coolest things about forerunners is that tailgate window it could actually slide down no other SUV allows that I don't know if Toyota pad net probably but you only find that in a forerunner and it's really really convenient the seats in here are all pretty comfortable they don't look the fanciest they look old school but you know you have some red stitching in here the TRD stitching on the headrest right not the fanciest but what's important is they feel good I'm driving here it's a good comfortable position I don't have to adjust it much you have power seats up front right and the rear can recline as well other little features that you get home link buttons your rear view mirror Auto dims and all the windows have automatic up and down now one of the coolest things that Toyota decided with the TRD Pros is to come out with exclusive color every year now if you wanted the base colors white black or silver you can choose those colors every single year but there is exclusive color per year that you can only get that year on a TRD Pro for example this year is solar Octane and it's this beautiful orange red bright color that I think looks amazing on this Forerunner TRD Pro now last year it was lime rush and then before that was lunar Rock then before that was army green Voodoo Blue Cavalry blue cement and cement quicksand and the very first year was infernal orange so the cool thing about this is if you see someone driving around say solar octane 4Runner TRD Pro you know it's the newest model you can identify the Year from the color and later on Toyota reuses these color with other versions of the Forerunner but they never bring them back on the 4Runner TRD Pro very cool now all these things that you get with the TRD Pro is great but what really makes the Forerunner reliable dependable and have tremendous tremendous resale value is the powertrain because this Forerunner TRD Pro comes with this four liter V6 that has gone unchanged natural aspirated no turbos no superchargers no hybrids nothing like that it's a natural aspirate 4 liter V6 made it to a five speed yes five speed automatic this combination has not changed since 2010. yes 2010 13 years ago and the reason why Toyota doesn't change the setup is because of how good it is it doesn't break as any 4Runner owner besides the reliability and dependability you're getting 270 horsepower about 278 pound-feet of torque respectable numbers for a midsize SUV like this foreign [Music] okay so that was me accelerating from 20 miles per hour to 60 miles per hour can't complain yes it shifted quite abruptly but this 4Runner charity Pro accelerated like most mid-sized SUVs you know zero to 60s and I like the mid 70s respectable not the quickest but not definitely not the slowest and around town it feels great it feels great also because of the specially tuned suspension this actually in my opinion this TRD Pro feels softer on the roads than a normal Forerunner and that's great that's great because Toyota optimized suspension to give you maximum wheel articulation now as for the rest of the drive the Forerunner is high off the ground so you have a great view all around a commanding view the windows are big blind spot is good even though you get blind spot monitoring in here but blind spot is good visibility all around is great I mean you sit up almost as high as a full-size truck so you get a really good view and that's fantastic noise level in here is acceptable it's not the quietest SUV out there but overall you don't hear much from the outside you do here to exhaust quite a lot there's a little bit of wind noise but surprisingly even though this TRD Pro comes with those beefy all-terrain tires from Nitto but I don't hear much from the road I actually thought there'll be a lot more road noise but there isn't so noise level acceptable obviously you could crank up the radio you have JBL speakers in there I'm driving quiet but as a normal daily driver if you're just buying this and you're wondering if this is a good daily driver it is there's nothing nothing wrong nothing bad with this TRD Pro also in terms of size can't complain and this is a mid-sized SUV inside it feels like a midsize SUV so up front you can see plenty of Headroom plenty of shoulder room hip room same thing with the second row I'm five feet ten you can see I have like three inches of leg room about three inches ahead room right the seats kind of recline but overall pretty good pretty good and in the back behind the second row cargo room is really good with this TRD Pro you get the Shelf system that you could pull out so if you have a lot of gear bags that's all the way in the back makes it easy for you to retrieve so that's pretty cool you also do have a couple plugs in the back right and speakers underneath the tailgate in case you are tailgating and you're standing underneath it's there's actually a cool effect where you could hear the music above you all great the steering wheel is nice and thick the same one Toyota uses in their trucks it feels good the leather feels good I like the thickness the stirring feel isn't bad isn't the greatest there's a little bit more play in the wheel than I would like but compared to some of the other off-road SUVs out there this is light years ahead of them there's something about off-road SUVs where the steering is just so sloppy there's something about it but not with this 4Runner TRD Pro it's not bad it's not bad so far before I highlighted all the good what about the bad what are some negatives to this Forerunner TRD Pro well fuel economy for one even though this 4Runner TRD Pro comes with a bulletproof engine fuel economy isn't the greatest with this five-speed automatic you're going to get 16 miles per gallon the city and about 19 on the highway so compared to Modern crossover SUVs it it Trails it lacks in fuel economy but the good news is you don't have to use premium gas you could just use regular gas so saves you a little money there the other bad is the price this TRD Pro's base price keeps Rising every single year almost by a thousand dollars year over year over year so this one I'm driving there's there's no options after destination charges this one comes in a little bit over 55 000 yes fifty five thousand dollars and last year it was like Fifty four thousand a year before that 53 000 right so the price has been going up steadily every year even though you're pretty much getting the same thing so there's that I would also say the exhaust even though around town is okay but when you get up to higher speeds especially on the highway there is a lot of drone so that could be annoying at times especially if you want to have a nice conversation right now I'm not accelerating the engine is under load so you don't really hear much from the exhaust but when it is you definitely hear a lot of it so to conclude am I a fan of this Forerunner TRD Pro yes big yes I review so many crossover SUVs these days more or less they look the same they feel the same they have the same features there's it's hard to get excited over them yes whatever refresh with every model they're slightly better than before but there's very little SUVs on the market today that can make you feel something for it feel alive driving it right right and the TRD Pro 4Runner still makes that happen every time you approach it you just want to drive it it looks great in my opinion one of the best looking SUVs you could buy today so I'm a big fan of this Forerunner TRD Pro I know that Toyota is probably going to redesign this someday maybe next year maybe the year after that regardless until then this is still a great great and highly desirable SUV because of all the things I pointed out in this video so smash it a like subscribe to the channel what are your thoughts leave them in the comments below and I'll see you guys next time bye-bye foreign [Music]
