2023 Grand Design RVs - Are They As Good As Some People Say?

[Music] thank you hello everyone and welcome to the RV inspection and Care podcast and video I'm Dwayne and I'm a certified RV inspector today we're going to be talking about 2023 Grand Design RVs and specifically we're going to focus on just how good are they anyway you know you see a lot of Grand Design products out there on the road and in campgrounds and so on so it's easy to forget that they only started building RVs about 10 years ago the company was founded by three friends and that was Don Clark Ron and Bill finich now they had all worked in the RV industry for several years for different companies so they really knew how to build RVs but one of the problems they had observed is the need to improve customer service or community education with their customers and owners of their product so that my friends is the main goal of the company of Grand Design stay in contact with customers and owners find out what they're thinking and what they need and so on has it been successful well I would say so because they just rolled out their forty thousandth towable RV that's really impressive in just 10 years also they just announced a new manufacturing facility and they've expanded capacity at all of their current facilities as well so clearly people are buying Grand Design they're having a hard time to even keep up with the demand on top of that grand design has been getting numerous Awards as they've gone on through the years for instance the rvda or the recreational vehicle Dealers Association has a circle of quality award that it hands out every single year and Grand Design has won six years in a row for all three of their fifth wheel models that is impressive but I'll give you one even better than that and that is between 2015 and 2020 Grand Design won the trailer in life Gold Award which is by the way that's the very best that they can hand out and they've won that award every year except one in the fifth wheel category which is their bread and butter now why do I say that's even better than the rvda awards that they won well the rbda award is from dealers and so it's within the industry it may be subject to some politics in the industry and so on but the trailer life award that's based on input from owners so that really means that there's a lot of happy satisfied owners of Grand Design products out there now why what is it about Grand Design well number one it's what the company really has tried to accomplish customer service when you are a grand design owner you find that the company really wants to stay in contact with you everybody that I've talked to on that subject has echoed that also the build quality is very good it's a step above their competition in most cases now as far as the build construction itself they use laminated wall construction and they use an aluminum frame and then rigid foam insulation in fact they put so much insulation in their products just the store standard normal products that they have very high R values and the walls floors and ceilings and then if you add their Arctic package on top of that well you've really got a well insulated RV there so if that's what you're looking for a Grand Design really offers that in spades now on top of all of this they give you like most companies do in the industry a one-year full warranty that's nothing special pretty much everybody does that but they also add a three-year limited structural warranty as well and that's something that you don't usually get from other manufacturers all right now let's focus on the products themselves let's talk about them and see what the product line really is we'll start with travel trailers and the entry level part of the travel trailer Market they have one product that they put out where they're trying to appeal more to entry-level budgets and that product is the transcend Explorer so if you don't have the money for some of the upper lime products from Grand Design well look at the transcend Explorer yes they're not made with quite the same quality as the others but yet they're still getting very good reviews overall from owners so it's something to really think about and consider but now from the transcend Explorer from there on pretty much Grand designs products are in the mid price range to the Upper price range in the RV Market they're in in travel trailers at the mid price range is taken up by Imagine and imagine XLS now the XLS is just simply a lighter version of the the Imagine and then in the upper line of travel trailers there's the reflection and then if you really want to move even more into a unique type of travel trailer they even offer a toy hauler and that's the momentum G-Class so there's not a lot of RV manufacturers offering a travel trailer toy hauler all right let's move into the fifth wheels this is where Grand Design shines this is their bread and their butter and it starts with the reflection and specifically on the lower end the reflection 150 series it's a lighter smaller version of the reflection made for lighter Towing vehicles and so on but then there's the reflection itself and the reflection is Iconic in the industry as well as the next step up which is the Solitude and when you start getting into the Solitude now we're moving into the area of upper line fifth wheels that Grand Design makes and the owners of solitudes are overwhelmingly happy with the products that Grand Design is putting out in there there is the S-Class that's a little less expensive so maybe that's something you might consider as well but now now in the fifth wheel segment they also produce toy haulers and these are extremely popular the first one that we'll talk about is the momentum G it's a lighter less expensive version of The Next Step Up in Toy Haulers which is the M class and when you're getting an m-class toy hauler from Grand Design you're getting all the little niceties and all the features that you really would love to have but it also comes at a higher price all right so that is the product line from Grand Design now let me say this Grand Design regularly shows up on my recommended list for Brands and manufacturers that I suggest that you consider when you're looking to buy an RV that means that I really believe in them now let me be clear here I'm not showing for this company they I have no affiliation with them whatsoever they're not paying me anything for this I simply believe in Grand Design I believe in the company its Mission and how they're actually carrying that out but they're also not perfect in fact there are no RV Brands out there that are perfect um the truth is that as long as they are going to be building RVs by hand well you're going to have variations between one model to another and between one RV to another so they're not perfect even though they're very good so what I recommend is if you're going to buy a grand design RV whether it's new or it's used get an RV inspection before you take delivery even on the new ones you know and that may sound a little funny having gone over all the the awards that they receive and all the praise that they are given by their owners but the simple truth is even Grand Design is missing some things coming out of the factory so get that inspection find out what the issues and the problems in that RV really are and then here's the real really good part you can count on Grand Design to want to honor their warranty and help you get those things fixed as soon as possible because again their whole goal is to provide great customer service so the bottom line is be sure to include grand design for travel trailers fifth wheels and toy haulers well that's it for now have safe and happy travels my friends until next time [Music]
