he's a three-time champion out here on the pba 50 tour give it up for michael haugen jr and his opponent from saint anne missouri he's won 37 times on the pba tour he's won 10 majors he is a pba triple crown winner he's a pba and usbc hall of famer pete weber that's the opening matchup guys good luck and there we go tournament director john weber kicking things off here at the baltimore classic craig elliott here live on ball tv with my partner in crime for the stepladder yet again tom carter i'm here one more time maybe i am i don't hear you you don't no we'll fix that you don't hear me i hear you i don't hear you but that's okay do i hear you now i hear me now there you go thank you well you know we don't always want to hear you tom but just apparently the secret got out that we didn't want to tell you i've been fired and that's the way you're going to let me know thank you yeah so here we are at the budmore classic and obviously a little venue change here we're we're at bill moore's house the son of bonemore sponsor of this event here this week a unique uh a unique venue a second time here you see all the banners down the side there of course you see the nice smashing unit you know bud moore or above 300 there we got pete weber taking on michael haugen jr michael was the number two seed in this tournament and uh by default unfortunately he lost his round of eight match but because he was the highest seed that lost he's still here yeah he ended up in fifth and he had a a tough match with dave johnson who is actually our tournament leader who is just he's he's the new guy on the block yeah i mean he's never won uh this is his first show he is the if you're an underdog fan this is the guy you want to bet for what are the odds we got facts bad ads on that was he like you know plus 500 or so what do you think that i think would be cool yes for entertainment purposes only so you also saw um the score up there where you we're going old style scoring here the old grease pencil um here at bone marlin so we'll pop the score up here every couple of frames so you can see what's happening so hogan versus weber here in game number one if you ever get a chance to uh come and meet bill moore and come to this place it's absolutely amazing he will take you the tour of the house it's 200 or 20 000 square feet 12-car garage yeah uh got lanes at his basement and he will tell you about his dad and the whole nine yard it is an incredible story that only he can tell but you gotta come here so hopefully we're here next year and the people will come and because the more the merrier i hope so yeah it's a fantastic venue bill's been a great host and you saw that replay there from pete weber he's throwing that gem again which he threw i don't think he threw it much until the last match play around here yeah he through this evening a gym and a proton physics both of those his normal layouts pin up nothing fancy uh michael hogan i mean he's thrown just a ton of different stuff an obsession tour a defender and a gym also pinned down yeah michael drilled some new stuff this week he's been throwing uh you know some of the same three four bowling balls the first few stops he drilled that gem uh i think maybe just this week and uh it worked out well for us he was the number two qualifier after the advancers round yeah he's throwing an evo pearl on the left a little shine to it there haven't we really seen any shine and when jeff johnson and i were doing our commentary on the last match i had mentioned that we're coming to a different facility with wholly different approaches and lane conditions it's the same lane condition but lane's surface right and not near as many games been built on them so the topography of the lanes is totally different so this is like going and it is to a brand new facility uh bowling on this shop for the first time i mean it's these guys and they don't get a whole lot of time and practice to figure out what's going on no i mean we all just packed everything up and got here as quick as we could they got you know 15 20 minutes worth of practice and a question in the chat there michael hogan is not sponsored by anyone so he's going to throw whatever he wants and where uh whatever jersey he wants so he can do that pete doing look at this shot from pete again one more time here how about this yeah pete's doing a little bit of pete but he's playing the same part of the lane he's taking it down to the break point around 10 uh at uh bolero drainsville he was actually getting it out around five or six because there was a little bit more friction but this is a brand new surface so yeah last shot again he's a little bit tighter line than what we saw uh earlier today and how about that match you have a brian angelo he shoots 300 game one oh boy he's up by 92 right and then brad shoots 279 and it gets it down to like 28 pins yeah difference oh what a match and then pete just got fired up the last game he went spare the next seven and brad just couldn't quite figure it out the good news is we don't have to be quiet because we're behind the glass we're kind of here in the penalty box yeah there's they can't hear us at all how about this shot one more time pete's getting pumped up now he's going to get himself motivated and we're going to have a heck of a match here he's crossing like 17 out to like 9 10. and he did that in the match against angelo he started i mean he was throwing arms and fists and he was just going nuts he's been fiery today well it's kind of like the peat of old it's like he got a little extra spurt of adrenaline going and uh yeah i don't want to gloat anything but as we started qualifying day one i picked pete to win so you know i like my chances really i wasn't in that conversation you weren't brian was i could very well we got brian running the ship for us over there running running the cuts and the replays so thank you brian for that but yeah brian you didn't even tell me you left me out thank you but we'll we'll do our final three pick here shortly as we do our tradition here on bowl tv in our stepliner finals so i'm sure you've heard it before if you've been watching the show all week but uh we are bowling on the johnny retractly 46 foot pattern 20.3 mills i believe is what it is it's just something ungodly small what do we end up with i think six three hundreds so far this week i believe might have been two for michael hogan or michael haggett yeah two just on his own within the four game four game block let's take a look at the scores here after this uh this replay there a little light mixer gets them all out of there and pete's uh taking a look so front five for haugen weber eight open and a three bagger so utterly lead for hoggin but still got half a game to go yeah and both these guys are obviously attacking the lane totally different michael doing what he does he's playing it up 10 at 10 to the pocket and pete a little bit of a swing and you're going to see tommy house when he comes on he's going to be doing the same thing let me see how these lanes break down who's up next tom hess is up next tom hess is next and we got stoney baker and uh then dave johnson the underdog of the bunch oh can't get the seven out with the four but there's a big difference between these two guys when it comes to ball speed you know pete throwing it basically 14 4 14 5 and michael throwing at 17 mile an hour yeah michael can he can pipe a little bit more than pete does normally and uh there's times he'll do it and he's doing it right now you see we got uh we got fans down both sides and lanes we had a couple open seats if anybody wants to jump in there and uh yeah well on the left side i wish we had a camera facing the opposite direction to see all the people behind us sitting in the bar area because he's got this is a beautiful facility folks behind us is another 25 people in the bar area sitting at the bar watching the game it's pretty awesome we got uh pba and usbc hall of famer bob learn sitting there on the foul line we just make him fall line monitor then well he did holler to tommy hess when he bully he goes foul foul let's see if we get any money to pay bob for that job here this afternoon maybe just get him a soda pete's been having some hand trouble and his his hands getting really sore he was saying earlier before he started bowling he's bowling more games now than he did on the kids tour because we bowl more games than the kid store does well i just think i think i think uh jason comics mentioned before this event he's already bowled 140 game you know couch has almost made every show as as pete's been in a lot of the match play round so you're talking you know with this week and all the practice games you're talking you know 200 plus games over the last three weeks essentially since the tour started yeah and if you're a one-night league player you're going basically 99 96 102 games for the entire season these guys are doing it in a matter of you know two weeks two and a half weeks and when the tour was really going on the tour i mean every week and a half guys we're bowling a whole league season you know yeah i get to bowl league when i get home thursday and that'll be my three games for the last five weeks you sharp no i'm ready for you sbcs in a week and a half though ah just give him the little high hard one there and just can't kick the 10 out the first non-strike from michael hogan you see he starts front five i love this old style score i remember doing this one as a kid making money out of saturday exactly exactly great and bill moore was just so excited to be able to do this again here this week the old i mean how many of us have burns on the palm of our hands from getting burnt even in others everybody out there can feel it right now you know what i'm talking about i remember when i first went on tour the world uh at the world open in glendale heights people keeping score by hand and i was bowling with amaletto and the person kept putting their hand up on the on the screen there and you could see it and he could see when he's getting ready to pull and we went through three score keepers because he said keep your hand off that's great yeah it's a look a little different now and the question there was yeah actually bill does have his own his own machine here i think it's the same one the pba has yes it is an envoy yeah he just got brand new yeah and he's got he brought in two lane myths so there's two guys back there on those machines so i mean we're set to go if anything got for billing never happens we won't have a breakdown hey all we ever got to worry about here is make sure our internet's good and so far so good so hogging with an early lead here halfway through this game number one in our stepladder final and walter ray williams jr was our pretty much a wire to wire tournament leader oh my god yeah and he just you know had a tough match and he he loves to he lost to tommy hess tommy hess and tommy he just couldn't seem to get lined up tom just put a whooping i mean and walter opened up with 300 299 yeah and he advances around this morning just unbelievable i told walter i said you know you realize you're one under after two yeah and walter didn't bowl bad he i mean he just never i mean tommy just started out striking and walter could just never mount any type of uh offensive against him and the number one seed goes down well you know tommy's playing a different part of the lane he's basically kind of swinging third arrow like pete is and walter's playing a lot like michael hogg it is pete needs this one to get back in this match he knows it well that was a little bit different because that actually only hit down lane around 12. yeah we got a nice nice shot here take a look at this again so it looks like about 18 at the arrows yeah and around 12 he's not getting it as far right as he did actually at the qualifying lanes what's that 127. so 158 so he's down is that 31. 31 with a strike up and we've got a great big box of yellow pencils here we're not going to run out of those he's got a possible 248. michael's got a possible 268. pete taking his first of two re-racks so we're in the fifth event here we're here at the baltimore classic at uh at bud moore lanes here in bill's house right angelo wins the first week parker bone wins the major in the villages chris barnes grabs a win in aberdeen and then parker picks up win number two last week so basically in mooresville it's almost been a hall of fame winning stepladder pretty pretty close and we got tommy hass not [Applause] favorite bowler from available and isn't dave johnson from iowa too ohio ohio dave's from ohio okay i wasn't sure i knew it was a four letter work it was and it's tough for me for ohio guy i'm just telling you it's it's gonna be tough but you know what they built great he earned a spot yeah he beat hoggin in that last round and he actually did it quite handily and both of them which was amazing both playing the same part of the lane uh but dave just had a fantastic look yeah and haugen has come off a big set in his match before and just looked unstoppable when michael gets lined up throwing strikes and he playing that outside line that he does because he's got the speed to hold the line you know let's say he just doesn't give up the pocket oh that shot was way more gooder more gooder yeah that's in ohio saying is it yeah it is so peter actually given 156 in the seventh why are the lanes 13 and 14. well i think somebody here mentions that brady moore says uh that's the that's the lanes that bud moore shot 300 300 john that's a cool story yeah yes that's why bill numbered those lanes the way they are that's not a good looking shot oh that was uh i can't say runaway brooklyn but that was a miss the ninth spare yeah nice bear but that's a big shot that gives pete 156 22 pin match going to the 10th frame huh pete taking a second re-rack i think he's trying to just slow down the pace a little bit maybe throw michael out of his rhythm i mean really i mean there's not much michael needs to do but just get up and you know pete strikes out just show up and get a little mark and he wins here so pete's going to do whatever he can to maybe get him out of his rhythm capitalize on that brooklyn shot is that a kansas city where peach from what they call it kansas city because it was on the opposite side [Laughter] i don't know but that's i'll have to ask i think he just calls it a strike oh that's splitting the a9 right there he can't throw it much better than that look at this shot one more time remember he was about 18 to maybe 11. that's about same spot yeah he's never get he's not getting it past the marker down lane which is kind of unique because there's a big difference in obviously lane surface the pattern's the same the surface is different and where we were at at bolero drainsville you had to get it right of the marker and now he's keeping it tighter that's why these guys are great they see that motion they make the adjustments they find the pocket some of us just kind of throw the ball resemble that i like resembled that this week well i actually finished plus i can't blame my body decided it didn't want to play no more we had a couple guys with rob pitts was in great position yeah he was seventh i believe going into dancers around 498 over and he didn't he couldn't finish today and the advances around his back was killing him here's vintage pete right here how about this watch that fourth of 12. and there's pete yeah and there's that's the peak that everybody knows that's not the pete that tom hess wants to see the next match if he gets there he starts swinging him out i mean it's just like somebody in the crowd says something to him don't make him mad because his focus gets really good a little bit deeper just give us some room yeah that was 20 21 at the arrows still down to but the key is he's getting it to like 11 12 at the break point he's not even getting it to the marker hardly 11 12 so he's putting it in the same spot down lane he's just changing his angles in the front part of the lane and you know with that strike there nine spare nine we have the possibility of a tie michael thrown a defender two different balls you know he's uh and there's a there's a winner now a lot of the players out here he's very in tune he knows the equipment well because he jumps around as we mentioned he's not on staff with anybody he jumps from company to company and it's really tough to have that transition in your bag when you do that he is kind of ocd technical when it comes to rg's differentials i mean i'm sure he's talked about on the show oh i've talked to him before in pro shops and it's like i'm out yeah he is i mean he'll come up to us as reps and you know what's the rg what's the diff you know is the diff any bigger in this ball in this ball and he is really into cores and what they do yeah and if you understand your game and you know what cores are going to do for your game i guess it's pretty simple look at this shot here gets another one in the tent just for good measures and just pointing to somebody having fun 10 back it is an intimate setting here as uh you know the players can't get too far right or left you know somebody might get oh they can't run kicked in the shins there on the left lane you know what's happening ball change you know as we always talk about 97.2 percent of the time yeah fill ball strikes nice ball game 268 246 michael hogg advances to bowl tommy hess one of the hottest hands on the pb850 tour [Applause] pete weber giving a big salute to bill moore that's awesome and no yeah the hospitality as you mentioned the bill's showing all of us all the players everybody here is just second to none i don't know how many players he had stay here with him this week but there was a bunch i think there's like five to seven probably we probably all can stay why don't you just have the motorhomes out here in the parking lot you can't get up that hill have you seen that hill did you drive up that hill yeah we made it yeah well i drove it over the car you're not bringing a motorhome up that hill now you back up maybe no i don't even make the first turn no josh would be down there with the four wheeler going you need to back up so a little different format there was no warm-up playing so i think the players i don't know exactly what the rules but they're gonna get a few extra practice shots here to kind of get loose i had no chance to get loose you know i guess maybe an extra five six seven eight shots you think yeah or i might just say hey are you ready let's go um but i gotta give tom a few shots normally they'll get eight shots correct correct so he's going to get more than that um because there's no warm-up lanes right no i mean they could have warmed up on skee-ball just to get loose right in front of us what i'm looking at is the workout room and there's a treadmill right there they could have ran in there and started running around a little bit you know could have gone to the sauna yeah that's true get warmed up in the meantime you stuck with us here we got tom carter and myself craig elliott here we got brian kane running the show for us over there over there and mike flanagan is on vacation he's on vacation that long's looking good so michael are back in utah so again just a quick update on what's coming up here on bold tv let's take a look at that schedule you can find the schedule well i gotta reload it under schedule at bowls.tv.com information right above your screen there click on a bowl tv schedule and you can find all the upcoming events here we are actually just finishing up the bud more classic that is a boatload of tournaments holy months rockford open just finished up congrats to stephanie johnson on another win on the pwa tour ladies are getting ready for the queens up in addison illinois starting may 18th twin cities open so back to back ladies stops and then for the for the men the super senior classic and the senior masters so within the next three weeks there's six more tournaments four pwba tournaments and two pba 50 events out in vegas then we go to lubbock texas for the u.s open yeah u.s open down lubbock odessa texas which is only two hours away then we got like eight hours north i think to greeley colorado that's a that's a brand new stop so between now and the end of june how many tournaments is that five more six seven eleven tournaments on bowl tv between the pba 50 and the pwba over the next six weeks so plenty of action you are going to be traveling all over the place i'm going home i'm going i'm going to a new home emea williams and the crew out there on the ladies tour the pwa tour taking care of business they just wrapped up their first one you know actually yesterday on cbs sports network all going to also get a couple shots just to stay loose see tom has talking to mitch beasley and that normally doesn't ever happen on the regular because we don't we have extra lanes right so the previous winner never gets any shots on that pair again until the next match starts so i mean this could be a little bit of an advantage for him you know then he saw a shot he just kind of shot at the temp and maybe he's he's thinking on his head look i'm not trying to find something i'm just going to throw a couple shots to stay loose he didn't really throw anything to try to line up there i just throw plastic cross lane kind of tighten it up oh there's that not that you're playing defensively no no i think yeah i think he's just you know we'll see here with the shot just gonna throw that out there yeah he just he just throwing something different just going his corner pins this is going to be tommy hess's second show in the pba 50 swing on what i call the east coast tour our first swing so this is his second show but counting last year because of him being rookie of the year and player of the year this will make six out of ten shows fort myers was he on that show no what was this what else did he make this year that it had to be four buyers yeah four miners right four miles yeah so to say that tommy's been on a roll since he joined the pba 50s kind of an understatement a little bit and brad i mean it's it's been tom and brad oh pretty much every week yeah it's been and i thought brad was going to be here again this week i mean just the way he's throwing the ball is just the guy's a machine he just ran into pete webber yeah and when pete decides he's going to win by golly he's going to win so now we get 10 days off two weeks off before we get to the super senior masters starting june 1st out in las vegas okay ladies and gentlemen we are ready for match number two here of the budmore classic coming on board from granger iowa tom hess he's won twice out here on the pba 50 tour he was the 2021 pba 50 tour rookie of the year and pba 50 tour player of the year he's a champion on the pba tour as well winning the 2011 masters championship his opponent michael haugen congratulations to him moving on guys we are ready michael haugen is going to start the match guys good luck all right halgen's going to start tom hess let me see i think you're going to see another 240 to 260 game or is it going to come down a little bit now i think it'll be every bit of that and the lanes i mean for michael they've got to be opening up just a little bit because he's playing that track area what i can't even call it a track area because i don't think bill's got enough games on this surface to even develop a track and and tom didn't take a lot of shots i think he just kind of got loose so let's go let's do it look at that angle oh 10 pin says not yet bob learn always wants some more air time so everybody running out after the commercial break trying to get their seats back oh interesting i don't know if this is uh michael peterson said the rule last year was the winner of the last match can can only shoot corner pins i don't know they may explain it really i nobody told us yeah get that in your notes no it's not in my notes remember next week after this match is over i'm going to ask john webber well you'd think maybe maybe linda carter would tell you that she don't know that poor girl we're getting ready to come here she goes back to motorhome and falls down oh i crashes i look out my rear window and she's laying on the ground i'm like what the heck just happened you throw the motorhome here yeah why did you get in my car don't ask okay i won't my wife's normally not that clumsy but she crashed so from here get to drive back to columbus ohio i got seven hours how far you got to go home you're flying i go to the airport uh see you're about seven minutes from the hotel so god willing a little luck in the creek don't rise i get home without any problems yeah chuck pitts just had a back injury and didn't make advances around how to withdraw an early double now for tom yes tommy playing basically the same line that he did over at greensville bolero different ball right he was so only altered quite a bit i think this weekend and that was not the altar are you sure i don't i thought i saw some some darker purple or our angles could be a little bit different here and it's different i don't know what do you think it is well he's been throwing an altered reality or a gem both of those ones pin up the altered reality spin down could be able to get a better look here the next shot i just took a glance and looked that close at it then when you asked me i was looking at the scoring over here then you asked and i missed it my fault come on tom i'm sorry [Applause] bill moore up there tickle to death keeping score by hand but he's got automatic scores up there too i mean you can't see it on your monitors at home folks but right above he's got a drop down screen so they could be all automatic scoring if he wants it that way and he could turn all in all the disco lights that he's got because he's got they're all the way down the line we had those on the other night there's a party in here oh he likes it oh rings a 10. the ball's just not reading the back end he's throwing a pro ball on that left lane and he's throwing a solid on the right so obviously he feels that they're a little bit different we got stoney baker waiting for the winner of this match back-to-back shoals for stoney pretty good run stone he's been but stoney's got this trick we talked about it uh in the previous round uh jeff and i did stony's got all these tricks that he can do with his wrist to stay in the same part of the lane and that's exactly what he did it never looked like his ball was actually going to hook that's an altered reality yeah it is just you trying to tell me something else it looks it looks different it's orange and silver it is from here it looks different from we saw earlier different camera a little bit different lighting here at the bottom orleans i've been staring at a tv screen for four weeks cut me some slack that's pretty close right there right over the right shoulder it looks like he's hitting about 11 and a half to 19. he is not giving it much money that's kind of impressive because he is not near as deep that he's been playing all week but maybe he you learned something off of that last round or watching hogging and those guys that tighter angle entry seem to uh carry if you can the biggest part about this lane pattern and it might not happen on these lanes because they're newer is the hook spot right around literally 20 feet because there's only 20 mils of oil the ball really wanted to hook up early and it forced you left but then the ball wouldn't want to hook on the back end so it was a way to get through that 20-foot spot to actually get the ball to hold of the pocket tom taking his first re-rack here of the game front three haugen three consecutive nine spares so everybody must see something with the left lane far as the rack goes that was in that was in oh my god and i think he was even shocked because that was like 12 13 that was left and then left again yeah because that was yeah that was like 13 and 13. that was almost in my pocket's at 15 right so 17 and a half yeah 17. how much belly there that might be where you call the shim or that's where the wet dry begins i like this over the right shoulder angle we get a great look at the lane and where they're playing that was that was about eight that's a balloon yeah he went to a pearl ball he went from a solid to an an asymmetrical solid to an asymmetrical pearl ball what's that obsession two or pearl that what that is yeah yeah that was he made a jump right and a ball change that's that's knowing your equipment well we did say earlier that he is kind of a wizard with numbers he likes rg's and diff numbers and i swear to god he's got a chart for him i just like a round ball with three holes yeah well at 22 mile an hour as fast you throw it you would yeah let it skip oh and we saw a lot of 710s this week over in drainsville it was unbelievable the amount of 710s we saw we almost had one there and the 710s that you had you thought you were actually through it fairly decent it was going to strike and you look at it and it's like no [Applause] when you flying tomorrow out yeah rain early bright and early i'll be on i got to take peter cannot my roomie to the airport first then i got a seven hour seven half hour trip home see i think he's taking much time there up on the approach deep breath a little bit too much time watch this one not to go too high all right all right [Applause] that's just a little bit of the routine that we normally see from tom there well he's got the front five so that routine worked yeah michael's got three spare strike spare so there's been a hundred dollar cash bonuses for 300 this week so everybody's dipped into bill's pock a little bit nice crisp 100 bill there's like jeff johnson got one yeah and when uh pete threw one he came down that match and handed renee 100 sorry pete he never seen it tommy with the front five inside again a little bit doesn't matter maybe it doesn't matter he might have learned something off of that aaron shot that yeah maybe that's what i ought to be doing instead of trying to give it away because that is the same shot as straight as i've ever seen him play it you know that's the old brett fire of just stick it in the face max you're catching this one it doesn't matter don't put your hands up because it's yours and that's what that shot was there the high hard one yeah that was a little inside all right still hit that shim though yeah 910 but he's hitting the shim in a different way he hits the shim down lane tommy's riding the shim the whole way right over nine and a half at the rangefinder there are those 42 and 45 feet is that what those are the range usually yes i know they're a little bit different in some places i think these are 42 and 45. they want board 10 and 15 yes sir you're good you should bolt i take notes no i shouldn't oh speaking of seven times and i think michael's almost seeing the writing on the wall here yeah that's gotta be tough he's in the pocket but he knows he's just not getting through the pins right away you know it's it's obvious both of those guys have a totally different axis rotation tommy's got a little bit more axis rotation to the side michael's definitely pretty much right up the back of it so that could play a factor rg's diffs or not your release plays a major factor on what the ball does obviously that was a captain obvious statement i let it go okay i had to say it before you jumped on me yeah when you correct yourself we just ignore it we edited that out brian cut out already nobody heard it brian looks intent over there that's inside again that was like 15. that was 15 to 17. 14 13 to 11. and tom smiling look at that i think i think bob said something yeah look at bob said something's like yeah how much room you got he is absolutely doing he's doing the point bird dog yeah go there ball hey it's working what's that 228 max score from michael haugen and hess he's pretty much there he just cruised by that yeah tommy's gonna have to take on stoney baker the the master of the trick release well he might have got one in just a little bit and then you know i think that's you know i think that's good for tom now right because you know we saw brad angelo shoot 299 here last year correct um tom knows there's a 100 bonus course i mean he's not worried about 100 bucks but you want to shoot 300 here in a match that's off now he's get matches over he's got two more shots he can try something different yeah why not he could try to open up the lane to see if he he can actually hook it and get around it or if he's just going to keep playing the shim because the problem is that track gets so burnt that everything hooks early then you lose your carry on the back end now obviously we're not probably going to have as many games on this pair even with the practice for some of that to happen but it still can happen depends on how big of balls that the guys come in with and use i mean stoney had been using real big balls in the match play and dull is all get out so that's got to change the pattern some we do want to thank everybody for joining us on this uh wonderful monday evening here we're live at bud more lanes here in clifton virginia michael just kind of going through the the process right now because he knows this match is over but what a great tournament he had i mean uh he could have been tournament leader if you'd be dave johnson but the way the format works he dave wins he still gets a spot in the tv show in the top five and i think we'll see dave dave will get a couple practice hats here before this match as well so we'll have dave and stoney baker getting a few warm-up shots in just to keep keep dave lewis as he's the number one seed here this evening and here in a few we're going to be bringing in a guest speaker we are a legend we are bowling on the johnny petraglia 46-foot pattern so who other to bring in this next match to have a few comments about what's going on than the one and only a legend himself johnny petraglia yeah we're going to bring him in i think about the middle of the semi-final game and now we're going to have to make our picks more importantly this time make our picks well it's time to make this this is what everybody's tuning in for the booth picks the booth pick and uh and brian we didn't give a microphone but he's going to have to pick for for mike flanagan since he's not here this week oh he's mike could be listening though he could he could type something he could but so who won last week do we know do you remember you guys i got angelo by default last week right again i got barnes the first week i won that one who won last week i did you did so then i think that's only fair that mike since he has never won yet should get the first pick well he he did win the first one it's about three of him so it's one a piece there's one piece well then we gotta play rock paper scissors so i mean how do we decide now we didn't have we didn't write down all the rules no well you won last week did i get the first pick i won a week before mike won last so i think that's gonna be very short seems fair okay so mike gets uh so so mike and brian marshall brian who do you want you are picking for mike flanagan yeah michael haugen what's hoggin oh he's finished i'm sorry you're gonna have tommy stone dave johnson johnson who are you picking he's picking tommy so he's picking tom hess which is mike flanagan's buddies so that seems like a fair pick um you know what i get the last guy i'm going to go dave johnson that's who i was picking i would do that in ohio okay can you believe that i'm not picking an ohio guy i don't believe i just did it but i did round on the ends high in the middle so uh you get you got stoney baker there's our official booth picks i'll take stoney for this week another 268 that seems to be the winning score today i think that's what hogan had right did you write it down yeah no i didn't write it down i was trying to read my notes i think it was back-to-back 268. unfortunately folks here you can't see us but we don't even have a desk because we're gonna like sit up behind this glass so there's nothing to ride on yeah we're back here in the penalty box everybody's gonna run out now between practice shots refill the beverage grab some some food it's a nice little party in here that's about more lanes stoney gets to come on make some shots tommy will probably throw and there's dave johnson yeah david this is the first time folks that you're going to see dave johnson on the show and that's the same ball that he threw basically all week and now it's at ufo solid and he's been sitting there for probably an hour now yeah a good 45 50 minutes without throwing a shot so he's just throwing a couple just to loosen up so a couple shots for dave a few shots for stoney tom will get to stay loose in between there as well everybody's taking their break this is the extended intermission here as we get set for the next round of the bud mark classic somebody out there watching take time to refresh your beverages grab your snack throw a little laundry in get ready for marbling um great to see all the fans tuning in juan fonseca out in california how you doing juan as uh we're getting ready for the semi-final match here both more lanes craig elliott tom carter brian king on the call and as tom mentioned we're going to have johnny petrogly come in about the middle of this match and then call our championship here bowling on the johnny upper traglia pattern and tom i know you like we've been pretty fortunate to do a lot of things in bowling um beer on a lot of people call a lot of these great legends friends but i'll tell you what i got to sit here friday night when we set up our equipment right up here at the bar we're watching youtube videos of johnny's 300 when he won a hundred thousand dollars and i was sitting next to johnny and he was giving us commentary you know what that's about as good as it gets i mean it's pretty awesome to listen to johnny's stories and he remembers everything that happened that match verbatim he was pointing out people on the phone look at this guy's reaction watch this girl over here it was unbelievable i mean i've got to spend time with you know with all these guys out here you know i got to spend time with barry actually who's got great stories him and john you're great friends you know a lot of good source between those two guys you know we we both got to travel all over but sitting next to johnny watching that was was pretty and that's of all the things i've seen that's that's one game i remember where i was watching it on tv when it happens you know i don't remember a lot of the other ones but i remember that one and so to be able to sit there that was i was at our bowling center midlands circle lanes um we were we were bowling all night long you know for a few extra bucks we just finished uh maybe a few extra bucks betting in on bumper bowling for the kids in the morning and watch the show in the afternoon uh in the in the lounge there right at bowling centers yeah i remember like it was yesterday that was a great match to watch i mean and johnny was i mean he was in tears and his statement was that i could put my kid through college all right well him and people courted both right they both you know did kind of similar things with their hundred thousand dollar bonuses um for shooting 300 on national tv and that's uh that's pretty cool you know my you're a bull and i've got to bowl with and meet some of the greatest athletes bowlers of the world that you know i got to bowl with mark roth bold match play against him uh dave soutar dave davis johnny petraglia some of the the greatest people wayne webb i i've got you know amoled all these guys and everybody that you've ever got to see on tv i've either got to shoot up have dinner with talk to it's it's been a pretty amazing ride well and we both actually now know that kid that johnny put through college yeah little johnny they're large yeah i've never unfortunate mark rothfuss guy never got a chance to meet a couple times we're in portland maine he wasn't able to make it so that's the one i did okay ladies and gentlemen we are ready for the semi-final match of the pba 50 bud more classic here at bud bill moore's home excuse me and coming on board from canton georgia stoney what's your last name [Music] john i just need to john webber just went blank all right john's ready for vacation stoney has won 32 times on the pba regional tour he's making his second top five appearance consecutively and he is looking for pba 50 tour title number one stoney burt tommy house semi-finals good luck guys he can remember how many titles but he forgot his last name john's ready for a break there's no doubt about it it's been it's been a a nice long swing for everybody here again things kicked out from 2022. well when stoney throws his first shot he'll know what his name is because you see his name on his back johnny burke was a famous radio guy well some things haven't changed from drainsville to here no stoney's still striking and that's the same light he played the thing is he's usually a slow starter but his last match he started front six against dino because i think he knew dina was gonna you know take it to him and that dino is one guy i enjoy watching because every shot he throws it looks like he thinks it was the worst shot in the world and pins fly everywhere yeah most pin action on tour oh my god non-debatable yeah his rev rate is just it's sick i mean and we're talking about senior players and i'd put his rev rate against the kids you know we have an extra head shot yeah has picks up well should we just call him haas now since it's stoney burke we confuse everybody including john weber uh we lost our screen there there it is there it is somebody's head was in the way i thought it was brian there for a minute i think he's just tom's right shoulder blocking the projector yeah something happens that's what's going on there something happened in the truck you know you know we don't usually root frame but i'll tell you what this is this would be a big win for stoney he made the show last week he's got 30 i mean 30 plus regionals a guy that knows how to win never been able to make it here on the pb 50 national tour so a win for him would mean a lot he led the masters was it two years ago when amaletto won ameletto had to beat him twice in order to win but stoney can play there's no doubt no question yeah that guy can throw a ball and as we talked about you know stoney stays you know a lot in this part of the country and his canton georgia still own bowling center there do you know he did yeah he still owns his bone center so you know it doesn't travel to every tournament but man when he shows up people know who he is well and he's a force i like chris warren in the northwest right you know and stone he's been battling some injuries too back injuries he's he was telling me like l4 l5 he's got a bulging disc and sometimes he's able to play sometimes he's not that one went pretty much right over 11 at the rangefinder and just crap a little bit high throwing that zen master tommy has starting out with a double stony strike i'm going to say spare because i don't believe that he'll miss this at all [Applause] they just didn't get a whole lot of time to to me to get loosened up to get comfortable do you think no but i i think he like tom just said hey i'm ready to go you know i don't think he took eight shots which we know they always get eight that's kind of normal right before i come in but i don't think he'd take that many he's good let's go let's do it he wants to win get it over with wow that was a little bit farther outside i mean he was like seven eight at the airport see where this one hit yeah that with this angle here it looked like it was nine but it got out farther down yeah it got out to five six down lane i mean that's literally more hook than he's been playing that's more hooked than the pete was playing and definitely more hook than tom played that last last match tom looking to open up with the front three from greens or iowa never a doubt tommy is probably one of the most intense players i've ever met in my life forest he just ain't peace intense and you know pete's throwing his arms and yelling and screaming and does what pete does but tommy i mean i he's just he's like a bull in a china closet well and you know he wants this one to even validate last season or he had a great season last year but he wants to come back now and win say look that wasn't a fluke right right yeah i won a few times last year had a great season but i'm still a force out here and he's here to prove a point well these young 50s that are coming out chris barnes him and there for a while uh hey parker's not a young 50 but he still throws it like he's a young he's a young 60 now yeah he's a young 60. um danny weisman when he came out for just a little bit i mean he's got so much going on at home uh doug kent when he was out and some of these guys are just if they could bowl all the time i mean it would be absolutely incredible i mean one of the guys that we've never seen out here i wish we would have seen because i just like to bowl with him uh again it was mike albee you know that would have been a another force to be reckoned with yeah parker stopped in and was real kind of stop in and say hi and join us in the booth a little better today and i remind him and said parker honestly nobody asked weber's parker this week they weren't missing you and chris because that's they know that's that's three to four titles so far between those two as they were down in florida ball in different events so nobody was too concerned they didn't make it this way there was two extra checks there's two extra checks and chris warren wasn't here so there were three extra checks but yeah stout field as always you know we saw richie wolf you know make a run today oh my god adam monks made a nice run you know a good young player from the carolinas faces every week how smooth is richie wolfe that's just sickening for a guy who hasn't picked up a ball hardly god knows how many years yeah give this one some more room as well but got on it a little bit more tom i do have another quick story because before we bring johnny in here is as we pulled up here uh we put you know we come in late because we had to pack up through the center obviously we come up the driveway and uh i pull in right by the garage and pete's standing there i get out of the car and pete looks at me says who do you think you are you and i am absolutely yeah can't give up that opportunity no so strikes bear three bagger for stoney baker front four time yes on a four pin yeah parker turns 59 in june june july yeah june or july so and pete our very last stop is at uh where my pro shops at wayne webb's columbus bowl columbus ohio and it's 19 through the 22nd and i think pete weber's birthday is on the 22nd to be 60. so you have to be 60 before the tournament starts so guess what yeah sorry that's one he misses well that was the same fellaini right lenny turned uh 60 on day one in fort myers cracked practice sorry the tournament already started lenny you know what's even last week moore said hamilton got a his 60 check that's how oh and peter knopf uh this week from germany he goes i got my very first super senior check peter had a nice run yeah he's been bowling good let's get ready to bring johnny in here as well johnny is up here in frame number six i'll slide over and we'll get johnny right where you're at because you're gonna sit right here yeah you're going to have a seat [Applause] then you got a headset ladies and gentlemen pba usbc hall of famer a legend that everybody loves johnny petraeglia hello tom how you doing here we go we got you turned on now now you're there okay great all right well this has been pretty exciting you know good scores key reps in the right spots and uh really good matches and stoney gets another one there looks like we got a search out for a second tom got you tied up in knots oh there it is it's right it's right there right there we go okay see we all right we let tom take care of audio and see what happens okay okay so johnny we were talking a little bit here this is a johnny petraglia pattern you've had a fantastic pba career yeah how does it feel to have a elaine petter named after you it's terrific it really is and and uh what i love about the pattern uh that you get to see every now and then is that i love playing inside but lefties don't get much of a chance to play inside so great things have happened to me uh playing way in and so it's nice to see 46 feet and a pattern and uh how do guys in bowling what's uh i think the upsets today in the matches were were incredible and then uh the way things are going a hit here or a hit there it's it's it's made for for great match play yeah we saw some great matches unfortunately no lefties in the final on your pattern but sometimes that's just got to the top 25 and they 24 i'm sorry and they bowled really well all of them i jason couch uh after that pin got stuck in the in the gutter yeah that was a bad break for jake had break he had to wait a long time then he left a solid six eight on a good shot and it ended up costing him the match well michael hogan had two three hundreds on his weight michael hagan i said haggett on his way to uh match play yeah and i'm happy to see this the lanes here look like they're finishing a touch more than they did at the lanes but it doesn't seem to affect where they were playing uh you know uh tom is still going he's still playing out with good speed right instead of trying to hook it from way in uh where pete was and uh and stoney and uh stoney's playing about the same place he had bolt to my right and and and certainly uh haugen you know he bowled great boat games you know just pumping it up about seven eight nine tommy hess is doing something different here than he did there because he was hooking a little more there but he's figured out he's gone to a you know that pearl altered reality and squared up his line and he's just he's playing it firm well and not only that he's had such a great year oh and won majors and stuff he's bowling with so much confidence it's almost like every move that i'm gonna make is gonna work well i mentioned earlier that uh the out of the last 10 tournaments he's made six shows really yeah he's he's a good percentage yeah pretty good percentage yeah yeah six top fives in ten in ten shows that's ten ten tournaments that's really tremendous he really came into his own he found something in the last year or so he's just been bowling really great i forget that we don't have to be quiet because we're not that close to lanes we're just trained to be quiet as they get up on the approach you know but there's an example on a key shot look at how relaxed he is uh without running it out or anything he's just so relaxed so confident he's walking back like i knew i was gonna make a good shot it's just just just terrific when you're in the groove and you're in the moment yeah you can't be beat and that's that's the way he's been bowling every tournament he just he looks like i've watched tommy when he he didn't look comfortable but he looks so like you said just relax like it's almost like it's practiced him you know he's that relaxed key ring in town there it's true back in the day they called it dead stroke you were in dead stroke and when you were in dead stroke it was the greatest feeling in the world you felt like like if you threw a shot and got wrapped you were surprised if you threw a shot in mr pocket you were that didn't really happen that must have been an accident i mean that's that's how good dead stroke felt and that's what he's in right now i think dead stroke feels like when you feel like you're doing nothing that's when you're in dead stroke you just everything just feels effortless exactly yeah i gotta you know you and and the winner of this match is gonna bowl uh dave johnson which is a newbie i mean you know watching uh he's the underwear dave comes up i i know he's going to be the underdog but a couple of the clutch shots that he needed he threw them so well you know that's so uh that's what makes the match play portion exciting you know and uh watching walter ray this week he sort of ran away from the field and right uh and then you lay it all on the bowl in a three-game match against tom hess and so there's a tremendous amount of upsets and uh and a tremendous amount of clutch shots that made for some great matches have you ever crossed with dave johnson no i haven't i have and he roots for you he roots for you exactly we call him the best football coach because and we asked him after one tournament last year were you ever a football coach because he is always clapping his come on buddy come on you got this i mean he's rooting for everybody on the pair yeah it's amazing you get the feeling that if dave johnson beau parker he would be rooting for the other guy both sides exactly just amazing and and this you know weber's whole match was a solid four nine in the first frame right uh since then the ten pin has been the culprit for the guy that seems to be losing you know and and i you know i know that uh stoney left a a solid four in the second but then after that it's been it's been ten pence and uh who's carrying the extra hit well their access rotation is a little bit different both of them play in the same part of the lane but just the way they release the balls just attached and you got tommy uh throwing a purl ball and as far as i can tell stoney is throwing something solid so yeah it's going to lose a little bit of energy different way yeah he wants it to get started and stop at the end that's that's what his eye sees right okay solid four and uh and if you can get the motion that your eyes like to see you bowl unbelievable because the ball is doing exactly what you like to see it do the hardest part about bone is bowling on a pattern that you can't get your eyes to adjust to what the pattern is actually doing patterns actually do this was yeah because you could see somebody that could throw the ball hard enough create the hold in the back end right and if you don't have your ball speed at that that's you and me yeah it's going to go high you know it's uh so it uh a lot of things to put together okay so we have 209 20 pins so uh yeah 188 to 208 and and stony's on a spare so uh a mark shuts it out right for uh for tom we'll see all he's got to do is knock ten back or any kind of spare yeah i like his chances yeah he has some he hasn't thrown a bad shot yet yeah so yeah i i don't see him you know greek church or big four whoa i could little wide got away with it not not a real good shot but he's only got the five pin again look a little quick on that everybody everybody got their hand up yeah yeah yeah everybody's got their hands five yeah you know in case he misses we get a drink here yeah we got a drink yeah there's not enough pressure let me do this you know well i wanted to shoot the five pin first before i say anything else okay you know on some patterns that that pin is the hardest pin to hit whenever it's by itself yeah when it's by itself so when he came earlier in the week uh bill moore had put down the tournament shot here anybody that wanted to practice on it and he said tom you're going to bowl and tom said no i'm not i'm not going to bowl in this pair until i earn a spot until i earned myself to bowl on this page that's that's and he did now he's done it you know it's uh it's really something what happened earlier in the week almost like karma you know it's a great motivation factor though so i want to earn my way here i don't want to do it for nothing yeah i don't want to do it for nothing and we saw tom i mentioned earlier on qualifying day one he had a different look on his face this week yeah he did you know hadn't made his show in a few weeks and he was determined that he was going to get here yeah i so you get upset because you haven't made a show in a few weeks yeah other guys haven't made a check in four weeks and yeah i even made a show yeah and when you uh you know when you look at the uh the way the guys are bowling there's really uh nothing to complain about you know uh everybody's hitting the hole everybody's you know it's a question to carry if you're carrying now everybody's generally in the same place that they were playing at the lanes so this has worked out perfect the biggest thing i've noticed about these lanes since they're newer the topography they don't break down quite as much as over there so they're staying in that same zone longer yeah so stoney's going to shoot 230 and lose by less than 10 pins and all of the matches seem to have gone that way you know with good scores there's nobody that's been really struggling no i think that you have to figure tom for a good game in the last game so uh so dave is going to have to be up to this game in the title match well you know that there's going to be nerves tommy has you know now you're bowling last year's rookie of the year pba player of the year he's made six out of ten shows you can tell he's on a roll yeah this is the first time you've been on a show yeah you know and you're in bud moore's place it's kind of a whole different ambiance of things going on you know he's got to be his stomach's got to be going nuts right now yeah you almost have to forget about who you're bowling and say let me go out and vote 300 and it doesn't matter who i'm going against right all i can do is tie me he looks to his right and there's bob learn he looks back here and you're on commentary you know johnny portray there so he looks around and there's a lot of great bowlers watching him do his scene so we get to see davido's standing here back here so there's a few hundred titles in the building and there's dave on first first one really good usbc team here except we're not allowed to bowl i bet we could put a decent team together i figured out well you got 120 titles out of one guy you know what 30 some out of the other so but he's over 60 right so that's another rule over 60 you're okay you know but i can't i can't say enough about billy bill is invited the whole building every night he had you eat and you drink for free every night and he put down a different food every night you know just just amazing you know and uh and his wife kate has been uh running around like a chicken without a head keeping this all together and and his daughter julia uh like second in command just it's been something he's got his buddy back here jim he's doing the bartender and jim is the bartender yeah josh has been running up and down the the driveway with his six-wheeler or whatever that thing is hauling people up and down the golf cart you know so that everybody can get in well we're going to get set here for dave johnson bowling his first ever stepladder final going for the title against tom hess i'm going to step back and let tom carter and hall of famer johnny petraglia give us a call and i'm going to go meet this gentleman behind us oh say are you are you going to the bar is that right that's what yeah okay how does that work how does that work all right gentlemen we will see you as we crown a champion here within about the next 25 minutes have a great final match thank you craig it's just you and me big guy okay we got it bill sitting up there at the telescore is like a kid in a candy store oh yeah with all of these uh the pros around i mean i i think the only thing he wishes his dad could be here you know to see this but his dad's watching i'm sure well hopefully we get to come back next year i hope so yeah i now last year we were in centerville at bolero at bolero and this year uh it got moved to bolero drainsville because it was a bigger center and bigger center yeah which was actually really good for the motor homers us because they had a huge parking lot we got to stay right there yeah so hopefully uh i don't know if he's gonna pick another center but uh we're back at greensville again and they're remodeling that place like crazy i hear yeah they are and uh we'll do a lot more for the bvl uh next year as things are coming together i mean we raise money this year for the veterans but uh it it'll get better and and if we're staying here well you got a thing coming up here in may don't you june june 12th june something okay it's already sold out really yeah the squads are sold out and all the money that's going to be raised for the veterans uh where's this at just at howell lanes in new jersey on june 12th okay we have two squads of nine on a pair that are sold out and then we have the last person standing which is also pretty much sold out and uh heck if anybody wants a bowl in that the way it's gonna work twenty dollars the bowl and that and then whoever is still the last one standing at the end uh 70 percent goes to the vets and 50 percent goes to them so if it's uh if we have 50 people bowling that's a thousand dollars here in bill moore's home dave johnson coming on board he's from ashtabula ohio he's won a championship back in 1981 he won a regional tour stop in indianapolis indiana he's also bought three 300s in the same event at one time dave johnson coming on board to face tommy hess for all the money and the hardware tom house dave johnson coming on board good luck guys thanks and just to finish that up if you win you get 50 percent of the money and the other 50 percent goes to the veterans so what's the last man standing how's that work this night everybody throws the ball at the same time and low count is out until there's only one left you keep moving the lane to the right so it's uh it's a lot of fun oh good and this is going to be a lot of fun well this is going to be a great match tommy has starting it off on the left lane yep dave chose to have tommy start and he wants to finish first well he's using one of his re-racks already that's that's something unless uh there's some special rule would you do that never not in the first frame i don't know when i'm gonna need them right exactly i mean you would normally well i guess way i think normally i'd save them for the ninth or tenth you know or longer now at least if i'm on a strike and i need a good rack right yeah or you know if i got a couple in row and i need a good rack exactly but i don't definitely waste one on the first frame right unless that was something was off and and he left the town so we have no idea if he only has one left or not because we haven't checked so i got to wonder what's going through dave johnson's mind right now and what he's thinking you know uh i would love to be in that situation uh and like you said my job i'm going to get up and throw 300 and the only thing you can do is tie me you know i think that uh i'm going to try to get this more you can hear me better oh oh whoa whoa that was close yeah he knows he just he knows it he just about got it yeah that would have been almost a reliever for oh yeah that would have been wow yeah you know i i i can be 10 20 up really quick here okay yeah oh he just about spun that seven out yeah but i think his first couple shots yeah a little little tension right there you could see it you could see it in a little tightness in the follow-through oh don herring just said it was on the second ball that's why he re-racked oh i see okay so that was yeah we didn't didn't count as a re-react yeah okay yeah we didn't see that from back here yeah thanks don but to give a little insight to sometimes how you can be thinking and thinking completely differently than you thought you were thinking i i will watch dave throw this shot and then i'll explain what i mean because i sound like an idiot i understand that can you say that again because that was priceless yeah that was nice and loose yeah that the year that i shot the 300 on tv i had bowled a good first game but now i had a ball walter and because i'm gonna bow walter i know i can't make any mistakes and uh walter goes first and uh he leaves a ten pin and he makes the spare and and i throw a double and then he get up and he and he lost the ball up his hand a little bit and left the two seven split the lefties baby split and let's watch tom throw the shot here tommy moved a little bit farther inside oh wow yeah he's a little tighter now than a little tighter yeah yep and so what happened walter shoots at the two seven it's a two pin two full and he misses it so he has 28 in the second that's right he was on a strike at 28 in the second and i couldn't believe it and i said to myself let's see he can ball 268 one ring and 10 is 247 my number is 248 i got to shoot at 248 and hopefully walter gets one ring and 10. that that's how i looked at it and and so i throw two more and i have a four beggar and walter gets up and goes strike ringing 10. and now he can only bowl 227 and so it it changes your whole outlook i already got i'm already in the 220s right if i can throw a strike and mark out it doesn't matter if walter is jesus christ you know the numbers are the numbers you know exactly and so you know things like that can can you know your whole thought pattern how you're going to approach it can change depending on what happens those first few frames well as a bowler you look at it a little bit differently you're looking at the numbers and some guys are so worried about their technique and what they're doing and what they're doing yeah they never even looked at the numbers and realized that they're actually in command and don't even know it yeah and uh and tom with a half ten but you know the thing is that i guess the thing that you gotta really solidify in your mind especially if you're in the title match is tournament's been going on for three days and i'm in the title match i'm obviously bowling good right so let's forget about that part of it just make sure you got the right ball playing them right and you know all that part confetti gap forget about whether you're making good shots or not you already know you're doing that and uh tommy on the tent almost missed it the first time a little adjustment there got that taken care of tommy with three spares now yeah haven't you noticed that sort of weird that the the guys uh that are coming on seem to start out with like a five bag or something and then slow down a little bit right as the lanes are changing a little bit and not enough to lose the pocket but enough to lose the carry and that's gotta pump dave up right big time here look at that dave and he got a double he got that farther right that was like a half pocket hit it just carried out the he actually the yeah why that was wide yeah oh my god yes but the wall is carrying and got it there seven eight the last two to go down almost yeah he's throwing a different ball that he threw in the tournament do you know what jeff do you have he's throwing the ufo alert yeah yeah he was what yeah and i think a thing that the public should understand is that the people with the lane machine have been here all week right doing everything to make them as close as possible to where we bowled at bolero and and uh and bill moore has two mechanics here i mentioned that earlier there's two guys in the back making sure nothing sure nothing goes wrong because you don't have a third lane if there's a breakdown and they're on top of it he's he's tried to cover every possible thing that could go wrong and then uh and he's been doing a good job of it and he's been worried sick that something you might go wrong well that's bill ah yes has made a ball change on the right lane house has made a ball change on the right lane okay let's see see a little puff of the air going out and he's got to stay relaxed but you know he knows his shots changed he crossed around 13 14. well the other ball was a little more responsive on the back end this has the pocket a lot better yeah that was a good club change right there your chest yeah i thought i was going to use a five but he's throwing yeah he switched to a six and he threw it really well so it's a an 11-pin lead for johnson and uh we're entering the fifth frame you know the the championship rounds are coming here yes well what's really going to happen for dave realistically and you know this too the last four frames are going to be are going to be the crucial race they're going to be the yeah the crusher either either he survives or he doesn't he could bowl great up until that point it all depends on the pressure then tommy right there push that four over wow tommy's right back in that right back one pin game yeah he tommy likes to hook the ball but he's not giving it away at all he's just he's playing that shim he he is playing the shim and he looked like at the lane side he was throwing it a little harder than he is and these young guys have that ability you know you and i unfortunately some of the guys out here we don't have that ability to pick up the speed well he threw it out like it was a walk in the park yeah so oh great half of the game one pin through half the game i mean he definitely crossed the marker down lane he was right over the top of 10 and he's knowing dave johnson he's rooting on tommy hess because he's just that kind of guy yeah he died he does he roots for he gives you a five you get embarrassed after a while you feel like uh what do i do now i feel bad because he he's cheering for me oh wow he got it look at we got a match oh absolutely i mean he's hit the pocket every shot so there we go tom tom's down at 11 unless he can strike and keep it to one pin well i think tommy realizes that dave came to play oh absolutely he knows that now for sure tommy has switched to a zen soul whoops oh in the sixth count three six nine ten yeah not only loss of of count but a tough spare that is yeah he might have grabbed that a little bit yeah right at the bottom but you know i've said this 100 times on the show there's probably 9 000 ways to miss this and about two ways to make it make it yeah you know this is not something you want to be shooting on i know i know at drainsville that if you got the ball farther right it just hydroplaned and hydroplaned so you couldn't get it too far right you got a touch square and it wanted to chop the three off the six exactly three six nine ten and wow covering the spare i tell you what that's like throwing a double that is that's throwing a double he would really be in trouble if he missed it because he's down 15 pins now so and well this is going to be his first re-rack so i think he's trying to slow down pace but you're a guy that's bold six out of ten shows player of the year rookie of the year you're bowling against a guy that is his first show nobody knows who dave johnson is other than you know us out here because he's bowled a lot of tournaments and you're feeling like you're the dominant player do you get overconfident because you think that you know i should be winning this i think you get overcome but i'm supposed to he's supposed to be choking a little bit and he's not and just uh and and so as as you get up near the end of the game it's like hey i got to strike every ball because he's he's not backing over i mean what's dave got to lose he's like i got to get her yeah you know i got to get everything i got and obviously both players are thinking that but oh oh my there is a break in the half right there here's dave johnson clapping for yeah tommy has as tommy like the six pin rolls over takes out the four yeah and tommy looks a little bit tentative now he's not happy with his ball reaction he's unsure oh look at this it's incredible it's just dead flushing them now they're just dude yeah look at that you're posting shots basically staring it down yeah you kind of like it is that like he's no nerves he said 229 with a double right and then he's not going to give up the pocket this game never has been that way when i crossed with him a couple tournaments ago that guy never gives up the pocket now he's blowing racks he's shaking them out yeah you know what uh right now these are automatic for thomas he's got to get him oh yeah now tommy's on the other side of the court tommy's two marks away from 238 so he's got to shoot 249. he's got to this otherwise this is turning into a cinderella story right well this is the strike right here if he if he gets this one where he can go after 249 and and johnson as right now is like nine spares 238. with a with a total score of 248 if you start doing numbers in your head and you go wait a minute i really got to throw this one you know that kind of thing so we'll see if if uh if if tom can put the pressure on him for that so what makes our game so great so in simple terms this is a must strike situation but it turns around so quickly and he got it wow he stared that one down yeah he did okay here we go yeah ninth and tenth and and uh in the uh he could seal the deal right here in the case of dave even if he strikes here he's got a mark in the tent it that's what the whole game changed by by tommy throwing that turkey he crossed pretty good oh he slowed up on the speed yeah he did he did he got a little soft on that three six ten not the easiest spare in the world to get folks yeah what count was huge right there 176 96 right now he can't shut out tom no it's how tough can he make it for him you get it yeah oh oh boy that oh you didn't want to see that no best he can do now is 234 yeah and tom is at 229 if he doesn't strike in the 10th so tom's up like five pins it's depending on how tough is it going to be for him he needs this one for sure yep there's one now he's forced him to mark if he gets one more he's forced him to double no matter what happens win lose or draw yeah dave is going to remember that ninth frame yeah forever forever pretty good oh it really hung up yeah got a one he got a little wide all right so he's 228 buddy 224 oh that looks like an eight out there uh tommy needs a mark with decent wood what'd i say is going to come down the last four yeah that's it and after he struck in the eighth seventh and eighth i thought he got the hard part over yeah 223. good job all he can do is sit back and watch yeah he needs a mark with decent wood but this is a funny game anything can happen [Music] well that's a 4.99 his max score is 244. it looks like a nine yeah and the silence is deafening isn't it oh yeah it's defining on both sides of the glass they posted it pretty good no oh we got an eight counts wow and a makeable spare and uh oh well what is really got this really got exciting right he's looking at the score he's not sure what happened 154 154 28 182 202 222. he lost what do you mean he lost he lost by a pin he picks this up in strikes he loses by a pen when did he lose wood i didn't even notice that that was 224 instead of 229 that's why i think is that am i seeing that right i i don't think so i i'm i i want to see the score sheet a little clearer 28 that's 202 if he strikes his 222. dave johnson just won his first title i i uh what oh right he had that six count that he made that's it that's right dave's gonna win this tournament dave johnson won his first pba title right that's holy that's a six count we thought it was a nine it's a four yeah holy mackerel i just can't oh my god lost by a pin he lost by a pin oh my get to be part of it is even more incredible because we're here and got to watch the whole thing getting to hear about it's one thing beginning to actually watch how it happened is impressive and then to misread the scoreboard where we didn't know that that the count was important and it was everything yeah that he had to get nine on that first ball at least wow i'm not sure that that he even realized what happened in that moment tommy hess knew because he knew the score but it looked like a nine to us and somebody on on the fan page here said it's a four yeah because of the six count we forgot he made that great spare on the three six nine ten but he lost four pins and count there yeah exactly forgot all about that yeah unbelievable finish again great job here tom carter johnny
