college and the pioneers of indian river state college amen and now for our starting lineups first for our visiting team on the scoreboard the pioneers of indian river state college edgard a 5-8 sophomore from vero beach florida number one kaelin moment edgard a 5-5 sophomore from largo florida number three brianna campbell edgard a five-five sophomore from fort pierce florida number 10 mary ann loxton ed ford a six-foot freshman from tampa florida number 15 anaya jenkins and edgard a 5-10 freshman from tampa florida number 24 tavi habib and now the starting lineups for the commodores of gulf coast state college edgard a 5-8 freshman from hiram georgia number 11 imani smith edgard a 5-8 sophomore from atlanta georgia number 30 morgan robinson in wahoo [Music] head forward a 6-3 chiaty downs your coaches are first from indian river state college coach jamara robinson and from gulf coast state college coach rory welcome back ladies and gentlemen it's game number two of the 2022 fcsaa njcaa region eight women's basketball tournament it is the number three gulf coast commodores versus the number six indian river pioneers indian river is going to be in the yellow gulf coast in the white this should be a fun one lots of good guard play from both teams and we're about to tip it off here at raider arena on the campus of northwest florida state college in niceville florida it's game number two of the women's tournament i'm blake white alongside essec rhodes and mike rideout and our production team from emerald coast tv rj and maxwell murdock gentlemen game two here we go more basketball in the first bucket made by number 30 morgan robinson [Applause] you know you mentioned the guard play that's the leader right there for gulf coast state she's a transfer from auburn she's the nation's fifth leading scorer at 21.1 points per game on the other side for indian river they've got a dynamic duo of marianne loxton and brianna campbell [Music] yeah the last time gulf coast was here we didn't have that hyphen last name from robinson i we just kept calling her morgan robinson wagu on the other end it's amani smith knocking down a three and gulf coast has a five-nothing lead she's the team's leading three-point shooter at 33 percent on the air [Music] you know last year guys you remember that magical run that gulf coast state had they were the five seed their first year coach kayla petrie who is now the head coach at morehead state in kentucky but they got to the championship game against chipotle last year that's right and their coach now rory was named the head coach in late july he inherited a roster that only had two players so he had some work to do to try to get some players how do you do that well you get a transfer from auburn you get a transfer from northwest florida state you get a d2 transfer from shaw university you get a transfer from georgia tech i mean he went to work and here they are in the state tournament deep three [Applause] [Music] here's a nice three-point shot from kalyn malmoth [Applause] so moment comes down and pulls her three to match i guess if she gets hot we can say she's living in the moment save that one save that one for later here's number three brianna campbell coming up short pull it out of the later moment there you go oh rachnell driving in got her with a charge he's gonna get called for the charge that's her first [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] commodore's coming out and a man's a man not the best entry pass no but anaya jenkins retains the possession and then a deep two rattles the round no good rebounded and a put back for tavi habib first team all conference selection she's a leading rebounder despite being a guard averages 11 points and eight boards per game commodore is looking for an over the back but tavi was able to just grab that rebound and then as she was going back up was backed in two [Applause] oh robinson fighting for position and she's culturally traveled [Music] [Applause] six five is your score 6 35 left in the first quarter i like the defense by abby right there yep cragnall just all in the face of the ball handler wow good take here from marianne logsdon she just used the screen real quick got by her opponents and drove to the hole she's had five 25 point games or higher this year avalon miller dumps it off to keante downs she's going to go to the line to shoot and she's fouled by tavi habib her first and the teams [Applause] 45 [Music] [Applause] here comes logsden pushing the ball up for the pioneers oh nice defense here way to deny it [Applause] more good defense by robinson this is just great defense by the comedy all around they're keeping everybody in front not getting beat [Applause] a little handsy here from the pioneers nice dump off from crocnell to avalon miller she finishes there [Music] by the way miller was the only returning starter from last year's team i mentioned two came back with a roster good d good d for miller robinson was behind her man couldn't box out campbell was able to just get it up on top a little quicker than she could turn and recover another player that took advantage of an extra kobe year she was a sophomore last year came back robinson straight down to the whole two points for her [Music] deep three short from moment rebounded by miller nice pass from robinson odd uh downs just can't get it to fall down perfectly placed fiance caught it in stride and just wasn't able to finish with it that's all shot good save by wagyu [Applause] [Music] [Applause] playing i like that defense too much there robinson gets the rebound up we go under four minutes to go in the first quarter quick first quarter so far 11 to 10 not a lot of stoppages [Applause] oh where the hell here's two more points for imani smith second team all panhandle conference selection season high 20 against pensacola state back on february of the night [Music] pull up shot not going to happen there miller rebounds robinson now bringing the ball up finds crocnell she had a wide open lane gives it up draws the foul as she attached the rim she's going to go to the line to shoot [Applause] as soon as she caught that ball she turned and looked and realized there was no one in front of her so she forgot the three and drove in and we got our first media timeout on the floor it's 13-10 gulf team for sure down under australia oh good defense avalon miller ah robinson just wasn't quite ready for it but she gets on the floor and saves it up to cracknel good possession there for the commodores cracknell now attacking rim going behind her back kicking it out to robinson robinson telling miller to go sit down she's got this one she's going to put on a couple of moves attack bucket gets hit in the face while she does it and she's going to go to the line to shoot too [Applause] wahoo twice this year named the fcs fcsaa player of the week also named the njcaa national player of the week in december [Applause] some nice accomplishments mike absolutely as i mentioned the nation's fifth leading scorer 20.1 points per game briana raynor was the one that fouled her so that will be her first and the team's third [Applause] and you said she is an auburn transfer played two seasons for the tigers 43 appearances and three starts [Music] six on the shot clock you hear him counting down what a block there from briana raynor the 6-2 freshman from hinesville georgia on the other end logsdon marianne pushing the tempo keeps logging them in and she blows by the defense and gets two more averaging 14 points per game she's their leader they're four general the glue that holds them together and right now the only pioneer on the floor with any points she's got four everybody else in the zero column so coach you said logsdon is logged in yeah all right i can come up with one two every now and then you just gotta wait for your moment there [Applause] oh wow so avalon miller oh robinson wide open oh but can't get it to fall avalon miller checks out at 6-3 and al-assan 6-4 checks in for her you got some tall girls here logsdon getting another bucket for the pioneers and indian river trying to lock it in here on defense gulf coast just with a one point lead now cracknell down low finding six four yep your girl there it is misha al hassan transfer from northwest florida state that's right and one big girl to the other this one is rihanna rainer that's her first two off the bench so the bigs getting involved here at the end of the third quarter we're at 30 seconds left 19 on the shot clock robinson got the ball 17-16 one point lead for gulf coast and hey that make you make it look easy doing that alexander ken wants to one side of the court is 6'4 getting buckets the other side of 6-2 getting buckets she sat out last year due to the pandemic and here's 6-2 not able to connect with her three two on this on the clock robinson pulls from deep and indian river so far this has been a pretty back and forth battle we've got our the bigs leading the way for both teams and pretty decent guard play commodores relying heavily on morgan robinson wang wagoo well both teams getting multiple players involved six in the book for the commodores five players have scored for the pioneers good start to this one oh we have an off ball screen or foul here this one's on brianna raynor that's going to be her second and the team's first in 12 seconds of the quarter both these teams were conference runners-up indiana state uh indian river excuse me southern conference runners-up gulf coast state college panhandle conference runners-up [Applause] deep three just short but they do recover and then another missed shot for the commodores sorry their colors are the exact same i'm just trying to make sure i get commodores and pioneers down [Music] [Applause] pioneers in the yellow commodores and the white just for those out there watching our broadcast [Applause] oh good spin move here and then pull up shot for tavi habib she had a career-high 30 points against palm beach she's also scored 23 against saint pete 27 against odessa how about 25 points and 15 boards against hillsborough community college big swat there the indian river really picking up their defense here hillsboro college you just mentioned coach gonna take on the number going to go back to the commodores that raiders team is the highest nationally ranked team at number six in the country there are five nationally ranked teams in the women's tournament eastern florida state college gulf coast state college florida southwestern and chipola [Applause] panhandle is the place to be if you want to play basketball at the next level come to the beach no question downs moving and spinning on that pivot foot wanted a foul call but instead has called for a travel [Applause] come on down to the panhandle for some sun fun and basketball and we'll be here till saturday got two more games after this to call another four of the semifinals tomorrow between the men and the women it is a beach day today [Applause] it is beautiful nice weather outside you know you're in florida when it's 40 when you wake up and 70 write something in the afternoon so tavi habib called for that foul it's her second in the team second of the quarter eight minutes left in the second quarter it's gonna be a high of eighty long spring is right around the corner [Applause] nice take from robinson and she just she's so poised she has the same facial expression on her the entire game [Applause] just uses that body goes straight in pretty much does whatever she wants to do wherever she wants to go at any time and they're getting two more third gear sophomore [Music] [Music] the way to mushi al-assan that's six for musha off the bench good defense from al-assad just keeping the hands up and then a fight down low into the jump ball is going to rebound tallest girl on the floor with the shortest girl on the floor i like seeing that battle [Applause] but by campbell doing that it gives indian river the possession locksdale driving in again did she get it off [Applause] very very close she made the move bucket went in but just stayed in her hand as time expired on that shot clock oh had alassane open on that rotation riding with her to the bucket yeah step for step both defenders will stay in with the ball handler cracknell however misses and the pioneers come down for a three-point corner opportunity nothing there logsdale comes up with the loose ball she gets it off the glass so far even with the buckets that don't count she hasn't missed i like marianne yeah part of that all-state team last year two-time first-team all-conference as well crack no fires away nothing there on the three campbell pushes the ball up oh travel misses that shot and on the cleanup reading is fouled she's gonna head to the line and the playoffs are all about guard play and so far in these first two games with these girls you know we saw caitlyn sanders from eastern florida we saw mackey for daytona state here you've got robinson wangu and [Applause] logsdale for indian river point guard play is really hot in this tournament so far yesterday leading scorer for the men was cj cajus he was named the player of the year part of that all-state team they announced last night [Applause] [Music] [Applause] getting these names right i was trying to say logs done and aj aj could use we got it right sorry coach we just missed the layup crack we got a rebound go right back up with it yeah exactly yeah second third chance opportunities that's what you got to give the announcers today as well yes we missed some of our shots also when you've got 14 games over a four day period we can miss a layup or two right absolutely robinson misses the shot here alice can't get it either but gets the rebound kraknell gets it back to alison and then she's called for the trial this is the second meeting this year between gulf coast state college and indian river state college gulf coast won the meeting 70 to 62 back on december the 11th it was a close one there at gulf coast state college [Applause] [Music] [Applause] and another close one here yeah it's 25 23 at the moment with 4 28 left coming out of our media timeout it's going to be indian river ball on their opposite baseline numbers still about the same guys rebound count indian river 15. gulf coast 17. the assist count is where we're really at indian river only with two assists and gulf coast was six logsdon misses this one she's had much better this evening going straight to the hole [Applause] [Music] thank you now we got a foul call [Music] [Applause] on logsden just our first robinson comes right around gets the ball two more points for her robinson wagoo approaching double digits she's got nine [Applause] [Music] [Applause] oh tough take here for brianna campbell she hits the ground hard and it's going to be a foul called on number 11 amani smith coach he was talking about the guard play it's all about guard play right now campbell's doing all that she can to get into inside the paint past couple of possessions she's been going inside and it's not just attacking the rim she also has four rebounds to go along with her four points so all-around player she had 20 against chipotle in last year's semi-final [Applause] loss not able to hit the first free throw though 78 on the year from the line missed that one as well god wasn't able to give robinson a little trouble yeah thanks oh what a fine there you talking about all-around player campbell dumping it down to nyah jenkins what a fine there being double-teamed first two of the game for jenkins [Music] you guys i believe uh miller miller called for the offensive shoulder there i believe that was the first time first time that i saw robinson was the last name wagu actually kind of go away from the possession coming up before she did not want the ball bringing it is up a sign of the defense of godwin i'm sure you playing and from if you're indian river you plan for number 30 and start from there logsdon loses it as robinson plays solid defense on her and she commits almost the turnover i don't think no they yeah i i think briana campbell thought the shot clock was still winding down it reset completely to 30. it changed possessions for sure all the officials aren't going to discuss it but yeah so robinson deflected the ball into the hands of mccain she had it for maybe a second or two it's almost like that football move was it a catch did he catch it and turn up the field and take two steps kind of a football move right yeah and so when campbell got the ball back the shot clock was winding down she thought it was about to expire so she launched it up so they're rewarding indian river giving them the ball back because the shot clock yeah i'm not sure if that's the right call or not commodores have the ball they have the possession right off the miss chess that should have just been a miss shot yes so indian river ends up with an extra possession and again we just said campbell doing everything and it leads to a bucket for indian river a big one of nile jenkins see the replay here tough shot as it falls in you know the call like that ties the game up on that make shot could change the whole momentum of the flow going into halftime and everything if anything they should have talked about it came over to the monitor and saw checked if that really was a turnover possession or not [Applause] big call there so remember that two minutes in the second quarter 2 30. coach combs looking for an explanation on that he wasn't very pleased with what he got was getting oh yeah coach kuhn over there took the mask off to kind of argue a little bit with the ref put it back on to say a few more words here the commodores just can't get anything going at all on the coaches that want to gamble well i believe we're looking for a sub the gulf coast already very depleted on their bench only see four available players on the bench at the moment everybody else in half action it will be lady commodore's basketball 34-29 indian river state out in front as we get ready for the second half glad you're with us hope you're enjoying our coverage this week we still have two more girls or women's games to go today lady commodores 19-9 overall 8-5 this year in the panhandle conference they were runners-up pioneers of indian river state how about that play there as it's morgan robinson wagoo with her 11th point of the game it's a three-point game guys [Applause] sure is again like we said howard how are teams going to come out in the second half well you hear coaches talk all the time or i do anyway about the most important parts now we're talking about a 20-minute game i know there's quarters in women's basketball but when you play 20-minute halves i've had coaches tell me the first four minutes and the last four minutes are the most important yes sir really we say the same thing to our players come out at half the first four minutes yeah what can you do with these two minutes campbell just picked up her second foul you know goku state played well in the first quarter then 19 points but only 10 points in the second quarter they shot 26.3 percent in that second quarter indian river switched up what they had going on on the defensive end oh what a nice shot there by fiance downs and now again if you look godwin amari godwin is back to denying morgan robinson wagoo what a shot there from tavi habib that puts her out in front with 10 points for the pioneers [Applause] no then a turnover and logsden comes up with it and makes another bucket at the rim she's been hot inside the paint 38-33 indian river on a run [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] now we're just going back to back this is exactly how the last game started out at halftime both teams just kept going back and forth logsdon this time locking it in from downtown nice deep three she is feeling it here we are with the defense ah robinson again can go able to extend their lead now 49-41 with 4 46 left in the third quarter numbers again still pretty much even rebound count indian river 22 gulf coast 25 rebounds the assist count gulf coast with 10 rebounds indian river with nine robinson's pass up to downs not good beyonce not able to connect on the layup [Music] a lot of standing around the perimeter right now yeah not a lot of movement from anybody [Applause] yep robinson up to smith smith gains her balance finds cracknell and it comes right off her fingertips i think smith could have gathered that up and dribbled out gave herself a better angle gave her a better pass could have even lost her defender [Music] oh you got to keep that ball out of the middle yeah the top part of that 2-2-1 just kind of falling asleep when it comes to the middle again coach i'm i'm looking at this like you said in the first game it might just be for show yeah they're not really trying to trap out of it but still into the middle is not where you want to go yeah travel is [Applause] al sand hits the ground pretty hard comes up limping see that right leg she had six points off the bench in the first half [Applause] good job defensively there it down to six point deficit oh robinson right there to get it nice pass off to smith still and the assist smith's first field goal of the second half she scored six of her 11 here in the third
