[Music] what's going on guys welcome back to the channel in my last video i did a one-year review of my 2022 chevy bolt euv and i challenged you guys to leave questions down in the comments if you had them and boy did you all deliver i got a ton of great questions about the purchase process the level 2 charger install process the daily driving experience the pricing structure all kinds of good stuff and we're going to cover all of that in this video so buckle up and let's get into it it's only ever windy and bad weather when you have to film a video now these questions aren't in like a particular order necessarily but i did try and group questions that are similar together so sometimes i'll answer multiple questions at once but i've got all your names and all the questions written down here on my phone let's go ahead and get into it so the first question here from vue 52 says does the car come with a spare tire or a spare tire and a can now i didn't know what a spare tire in a can was i had to look it up but this is what a spare tire and a can is but unfortunately it comes with neither of those you do not get a spare tire on the bolts ev or euv you don't even get a donut little tiny shrimpy thing you get nothing you do have kind of the area where you would think it would go but it just doesn't come with one and you really probably can't even fit one unless it's pretty small now i talked a little bit in my last video about cooler climates and how the bolt will kind of react or the range will react to those cooler climates and i got a lot of questions about the inverse the much hotter climates now obviously i'm in louisville kentucky so we're not in we're kind of the mid where we get you know we are we're mid or mid i don't have a lot of the extremes so we don't have extreme cold all the time or extreme hot all the time so in a place like phoenix arizona like this one comet from the jmac 24 or roger l who also is in a desert climate they want to know kind of how it's going to perform in those super hot super dry climates and i'm going to be completely honest with you guys i have no idea but i assume that in those super hot climates you're going to be wanting to use air conditioning a lot more which is going to impact your battery which we talked about on the last video but you're also not going to have to do the battery conditioning where it's going to have to heat up your battery so i would say that you'll get on the higher end of performance i think if you live in conditions where it's really hot all the time or even really cold all the time i would recommend getting a bolt model that has heated and cooled seats so that you can use the cooled seats or heated seats whatever you need as opposed to running the heat or the air conditioning all the time to really help with range i don't have specific numbers for you maybe somebody that's seeing this video here that lives in a desert climate that has a bolt can give you you know a big paragraph of specific numbers which my last comment section was full of and i'm super appreciative of that because it's really helpful for a lot of people drop that down below if you guys live in a desert climate and you have a bolt and help these guys out the jmac 24 also had a couple more questions one was that he takes day trips about 120 miles one way would he need to charge before heading back most likely yes because you're you're not going to be getting you know the advertised max range is like 240-ish miles 248 i think something along those lines and that's at 100 if you were to charge to that that's in perfect driving conditions you're never going to get that exact that's that is peak performance you're never going to get that so you're most likely gonna get somewhere in like the 200-ish mile range 220-ish if you're really conservative realistically yes to make it there and back you're gonna need to charge while you're there but part two is that he lives in a condo and he's seen other residents run a long extension court from their house to the car and plug in there what are my thoughts on that i only did this one time and it's when i first got my bolt because i hadn't gotten my level 2 charger put in yet and i ran an extension cord out of my garage used the standard you know 110 volt outlet plugged it into an extension cord it's highly highly frowned upon not recommended at all that's a lot of current traveling across an extension cord most of them aren't made for that you can do it but you're gonna get very very slow charging times i mean like you'll need like a day and a half to fully charge it's that slow i think i got over about an eight hour period charging maybe a little bit longer on the extension cord i got like 40 miles of range added so and that's overnight you know just letting it sit so keep that in mind if you're just gonna be topping this thing off every night like if you don't have a long commute to work and back and you're just traveling 25 30 40 miles you could probably get away with just using an extension cord to charge charge in a condo but most likely you're gonna need to at least a couple times a week go somewhere to a dc fast charger let it fully charge up so you've got the max range that your vehicle can get we have a question here from emmanuel macedo can you actually use the top rails for anything thanks for the video you're welcome for the video and yes you can use the top rails they are effective and efficient but you do need to get your either accessories from chevy to use them or you know a third-party accessory so i went on chevy's accessory page for the bold ev and just pulled prices and pictures for all of these different types of things so you know first and foremost you can just get your simple removable roof rack cross rails they're a thule product and those are 719 dollars so they are in no way shape or form cheap but you can get them and then you can attach to those cross rails a all kinds of stuff actually you can get a snowpack ski and snowboard carrier 330 a roof mounted pro ride xt a bicycle carrier that is 230 dollars you can get a roof mounted kayak carrier 270 dollars you can get one of those shell you know cargo carrier things the cargo box that's 700 you can get roof mounted shuttle or paddle board surfboard carrier for 180 dollars you can get a canoe carrier for 180 as well so lots of different cargo carrying options you can even get a cargo net i have that on here too and that is uh 60 so if you just want something simple like a cargo net 60 there so yes you can definitely use them for carrying all sorts of different types of stuff on top of your bolt i just had never have because i don't do any of those kind of outdoor sports where i'd need to carry stuff like that but you definitely can backpacking on the question about the roof rails emtb trail rider asks wonder if you can install a tow hitch to put a bike rack on so chevy does not sell a tow hitch for the bolt but you can get this one right here as a third-party tow hitch looks like it costs about two hundred and twelve dollars it is the draw tight class three max frame receiver hitch for the 2022 bolt uv it does have an installation difficulty 10 out of 10 and it does require you to remove the rear fascia temporarily and do some trimming of the rear fascia so it is not something you should do lightly it does require some you know involved installation there but yes you can put a tow hitch on the bolt but also like i said in the last question you can get a bike rack for the roof so if you want to do that that's a little bit less invasive that's an option pudgychild asks did i see the price drop for the 2023 models is it worth it for the new price i definitely did see the price drop i actually have the numbers uh right here for you so this is from the verge under the new pricing scheme the 2023 bolt evs with the 1lt trim will start at 26 595 which includes the dealer freight charges down from the 2022 price of 32 495 an 18 price drop that is massive the 2lt trim which gets leather seats hd surround vision lane change alert starts at 29 7.95 which is a 16 decrease from 35 695 from 2022 so is it worth it absolutely it was worth it to me at the higher price point but no doubt about it at this lower price point it is well worth it now piggybacking off the pricing question elijah tyrell asks do you still get the tax credit for these i'm seriously considering getting one as a work car daily driver so unfortunately no you do not still get the tax credit and i think this is a huge reason why chevy is implementing this dramatic price decrease here they want to remain competitive with all these newer evs that are hitting the market that can still get the tax credit and have lower pricing comparatively because of that and this price decrease is a huge step in the right direction there so no you don't get the tax credit but there's a huge price difference for the new models vincent cassius cassay i don't know i'm sorry vincent says how much was your vehicle's initial delivered total cost before any tax rebates again i didn't get the tax rebate even last year they didn't have the tax rebate but i traded in my 2019 subaru crosstrek and obviously the market's been wild for years now since covid so i got way more for that trade-in than i ever would have gotten in a normal year so that helps me a lot but i have my exact pricing sheet right here i'll try and put it on screen so it could help you guys but i was able to get sixteen thousand nine hundred and two dollars for trading in my crosstrek the market cost at the time for the bolt that i got here was thirty three nine ninety five i got a three thousand dollar discount there uh being a gm employee i do work at a chevy dealership so with that discount my total purchase price was 30 9.95 then you you know lump all the fees on you lump my trade-in so my balance that i actually leased this vehicle for uh that i paid for was 28 782 and 38 cents and my monthly payment is 275.28 so that is what i pay every month for my bolt obviously i haven't had any maintenance costs obviously i don't pay anything in gas but i pay about 30 extra dollars a month on my electric bill so all in my cost is right around 300 a month including transportation obviously if i had an ice vehicle i'd be paying you know if i even had like a 300 payment i'd be paying you know an additional 240 additional dollars in gas every month so my total cost every month would be like you know in the 550 range versus the around 300 range that it is now so that's a win in my book so this isn't really a question here but two fresh 2 8 says great review i was going to go with the level 2 charger installation at home free of charge from chevy but instead went with a 500 evgo credit since i can charge my vehicle for free at work and then don't find myself charging at home too often that is a great option as well so yes chevy is still doing this incentive for them to either put a 240 volt outlet in your garage for you to work with your dual level charging cable or give you a 500 evgo credit to use at their charging network i charge at home more than anything i love having my level 2 charger set up at home got it mounted in my garage it's run through underneath my garage and then plugs into the wall outside of my garage so i can easily just plug it in and out without worrying about it getting completely stolen since it is safely secured inside of my garage it's an awesome setup i love it and i'm able to keep my vehicle fully charged all the time so if you're a person like the jmac 24 earlier who lives in a condo but wants to get a bolt doesn't think they can have a level two charger set up maybe go with the 500 evgo credit and be able to charge when you're out and about making your trips back and forth in arizona that may be the better bet for you and i did mention that i had to pay a little bit extra to have my level 2 charger installed they give you a certain amount that they'll pay for the charger itself to be installed and then a certain amount for a certification from an electrician because the complexity of my install was a little bit more intense they had to crawl through my attic because my electrical box was in my pantry whereas my garage is kind of on the opposite side of the house so it was a little bit more involved so i ended up exceeding the amount that they'll cover so i had to pay a little bit extra but still that is a benefit and a win in my book because it's still cheaper than i would have had to pay to have an electrician do it and i already had the cable because the bolt ev comes with the level 2 charger built in so i didn't have to buy a charger like i just did for my parents house which cost seven hundred dollars from juice box so in total i saved a good bit of money by having chevy do the level two charger install for me and piggybacking off that random man asks how fast will they install the level 2 charger so i made an entire video talking about this if you want to watch that i'll have it linked above and in the description random man but it took i think all in about two weeks but obviously your experience may vary wildly i don't know kind of what the process uh is at this point i don't know if they're having issues with staffing like a lot of people are and it's based on companies in your local area so the company that came out did mine was local to louisville kentucky briefly how it works your dealership has to submit a form to chevy chevy then contacts a company called qmerit humeric contacts you you fill out a survey kind of detailing how difficult your installation is going to be where your used box is where your garage is all that kind of stuff and then they will contact local electricians that they work with and then they'll submit a proposal i have to accept it or you have to accept the proposal qmerit has to accept the proposal and then it kind of moves forward from there so it's a little bit of a back and forth situation again like i said it took about two-ish weeks maybe three to get it fully completed again i have a full video detailing that process if you want to watch that i'll have it linked above but it was pretty painless and has been just an absolute lifesaver especially not having to find a place that has a dc fast charger to use and sit and do all that kind of just just waking up every morning with anywhere depending on the time of year anywhere between 140 to 240 miles of range every single day you can't beat it stephen baloy says nice review my euv will enter production in june so hopefully we'll get it sometime in august or september what is the max range you achieved in warmer weather on a full charge that's part one of his question the max range i ever got was 237 miles of range right around there that was the max i ever got because i went like two whole days without charging it and so i drained it all the way down almost to zero so that's the max i ever got but i never push it that far anymore and then he also asked how is the suspension is it too soft or bouncy over potholes or bumps so i am not a super nerdy car guy where i can compare suspensions off the dome like a lot of people can the bolt does not have a stiff suspension necessarily but is on the stiffer end it is not super bouncy it doesn't love bumps and potholes it it takes them pretty harshly definitely comparative to my crosstrek that i had a subaru obviously is going to handle those kind of conditions a little bit better also as far as handling goes i have noticed when you do try and take sharp turns it doesn't love that it tends to to skid a little bit when you try and take really sharp turns or take sharp turns at too high of a speed so just something to keep in mind i mentioned in the last video that i accidentally went up and over that curb and got stuck and funny enough stk drivin asked me did your suspension and alignment survive the curb hop that it still drives straight afterwards no no it doesn't i don't know if it's suspension issue or a tire alignment issue or what the problem is it's got a slight left lean to it some of you guys know what i'm talking about but yes that's definitely something that i'm going to get looked at and a lot of people left comments saying you need to get your little issues fixed from chevy you should be under warranty all that kind of stuff so i am under warranty and i do have an appointment scheduled for next week to get all my little nitpicks fixed randy schiffer asks what is it like to insure one of these so obviously this is one of those things where it's gonna differ like crazy across the country but uh mine was right around 203 dollars a month to ensure mega says nice does it have a heat pump this is super controversial a lot of people have talked about this uh you know how pass bolts do not have a heat pump speculating if the new ones would have a heat pump no there's no heat pump sorry i had someone comment and they have a really long name with a lot of letters so i'm not going to even try to pronounce it because i'd butcher it said so you added some stick on crap and called that modification question mark young people confuse me um there's nothing on this vehicle that's stick on um even the badging up here that's the original badging i mean yeah technically it does stick on but it sticks on from the manufacturer so i wouldn't call that a stick on modification it's not like i've slapped a fake badge on there that's the real badge we just took it off painted it and put it back on so i don't know what you're referring to exactly and everything else i mean my wheels were professionally powder coated it cost me a lot of money to have those professionally powder coated windows were professionally tinted you know so i don't know what you're referring to but you're wrong i had a ton of people and i want to get all your names in there so you can have credit beauty of grace asked me they said considering buying one this summer i'd love to see how it looks at night great video very helpful thank you so much i really appreciate it ralph schultz says uh my question is does this model have ambient interior lighting analog kid 2112 said thanks for the update i'd like to see the interior and dash at night i'm curious about the ambient lighting robert baxter said thanks to the update how did you find the headlights when driving at night good visibility or no question mark so let me answer a couple of those questions first they don't have interior ambient lighting like the previous model did and nothing you can customize like some other vehicles have now as far as visibility at night no problems at all it does have the really low profile led drls and then you have the led high beams as well and you have the auto high beam that i leave on all the time so let's go ahead and take a look at what the bolt ev looks like at night [Music] [Music] daryl anderson asks great video how is the front and rear leg room so that was one of my main things about getting the bolt uv over the ev i'll talk about that a little bit more later but one of the main reasons why i went with the euv versus the eevee is the leg room in the back you have a much more comfortable rear passenger experience on the euv i'll have all the numbers on screen for you here i can't remember off the top of my head but the rear legroom's fine i had another person say how does it fit for people let's say six three so i'm six one so two inches taller than me i've had plenty of people my dad is over six three my dad's about six four he's driven in it no problem it's still a pretty compact cabin you know i'm not gonna oversell it it's a small cabin but you know coming off of a crosstrek it wasn't that much of an adjustment for me a little bit smaller front cabin rear leg space is fine i've had two adults back there no problem at all i think it's a very spacious back seat i think you're gonna be really happy with it especially given the ability to lay the seats down get extra cargo capacity it's well worth it in my opinion i had a question from anthony and anthony says is there a way to change what icons are on the dock on the home screen there's four icons at the bottom left of the touch screen next to the home button i'd like to change these what i'm talking about is visible at 11 37 of my previous video does anybody know if that's possible so anthony i don't think it is possible i tried i messed around with it like crazy i tried you know you can press and hold like you would on any smartphone to change the kind of how the icons are aligned on the home screen itself the app icons but i couldn't i tried dragging over and dropping them into the little i'm going to call it like the hot bar tried dragging over to the hotbar nothing i tried going in settings to change favorites i tried pressing holding on the hotbar and dragging them out couldn't figure it out in any way shape or form i tried everything i'm pretty tech savvy as the name may imply but i'm not ruling it out completely i'm gonna say based on my experience and what i tried i could not get it to work but there's a lot of smart people that watch these videos and there's a lot of smart people that leave comments so if you guys know you know straight from the manufacturer's mouth if it's possible or not drop a comment down below i'll pin your comment so that anthony can see and others that may have this question can see as well and to put a nice little bow on this q a video i got several questions uh from people like nick elzinga joe cowie kind of along the lines of why did you choose the euv over the eevee and then from nick saying are you now hooked on evs for good or do you ever see yourself going back to a car with an internal combustion engine so i'm just gonna kind of uh talk through that real quick so first and foremost why did i choose the euv over the eevee kind of touched on it with the rear leg room that was one reason i like bigger vehicles in general just having a vehicle that's just larger overall just feels better to me even though the cargo capacity isn't significantly different between the bolt ev and the euv i still felt like i wanted to maximize the amount of space i had in case i needed to transport things i'm a videographer i've said that many times i need every ounce of space every inch of space that i can get so that was a big reason why i like the look of the front end of the euv versus the ev i don't like the fully connected headlight design on the evs i like the split headlight design more like the blazer like on the euv here so lots of reasons like that there's also benefits like getting the dual level charging cable standard on the euv versus the eevee that was a big reason so and then that last question there asking could i ever go back and i had a couple questions like this could you ever go back to a non-eevee or are you completely sold on evs i am completely sold on evs i have loved evs for as long as i've known about them and i wanted one so desperately and when the bolt euv came out and my crosstrek lease was going to be up i had to jump on the opportunity immediately i couldn't pass it up and i am so so so glad that i did i know for a fact i could never go back to driving a normal internal combustion engine vehicle i just couldn't i don't know what electric vehicle i'm gonna go to next i love chevy's i wouldn't be opposed to going to a blazer ev or an equinox ev i'll have to check them out once we get some on my dealer's lot i'd like to get my hands on a tesla that'd be my ultimate thing if i could afford a tesla i'd do it and maybe if my youtube journey continues and we get far enough down the line maybe i'll be able to afford a tesla on youtube who knows i know a lot of other youtubers have them i'd love to have one too maybe someday but i am perfectly content with having a chevy i don't think gm's are junk i don't think gm's are crap i think chevy makes great vehicles and the bolt ev is one of them and that's why i chose it and real quick i just wanted to say thank you to all of you not only who have watched this video here but also have watched my one year in review video the support on it has been overwhelming to say the least it means the world to me so thanks so much for watching guys drop a like on the video if you loved it feel free to leave more questions down in the comments or in my google forms link in the description if i get enough follow-up questions i may make a part two or i might just answer you in the comments section like i
