six years ago i purchased an intuos s pro pen tablet to use for things like photo editing illustration logo design and i've loved it lately i've been doing more digital art especially 3d sculpting for this video game i've been working on and i've wanted to get into some 2d drawing which i love to do digitally so i decided it was time for an upgrade this led me down a review rabbit hole that solved nothing for me i spent weeks watching youtube videos and unboxings and basically got nowhere trying to decide which tablet to purchase my biggest confusion point around these tablets was their price why are some thousands of dollars while some are hundreds i don't want to pay a bunch of money just for a brand name even after all my research and all of my time staring at my phone while my daughter grew up in front of my eyes and i missed important milestones i was nowhere then the thought came to me why not just buy a whole bunch of tablets that way you can find out which one's the best without worrying that i missed out on something i have a credit card and that's what i did and in my desperate attempt to become internet famous before my paternity leave runs out i decided to post review of my results before i get into the tablets let me show you what my art looks like as you can see i'm ok but not great i describe myself as an ambitious amateur which is another thing i found faulty about the youtube reviews i watched everyone i watched was a phenomenal artist and it made me think maybe i don't deserve a tablet that's this good but forget that i deserve it and if you're watching this video and you want one you deserve it too i narrowed my search down to basically three tablets that i wanted to buy on the lower end the xp pen artist display 24 inch pro tablet this xp pen tablet seemed to have a lot of positive reviews and i'm too dumb to tell if they're fake and it had a screen and a pen so it pretty much fit all my criteria on the high end i looked at the wacom cintiq pro 24 inch in the mid-range i wanted to get the wacom cintiq regular i guess 22-inch also fyi my wife was totally supportive of me ordering all these tablets but then i also heard her telling the baby that dad was gonna buy hundreds of dollars in tablets so i think it's also possible she just didn't know how much they really cost and hasn't looked at the bill yet now i'm not going to go into depth here about technical specifications or even do a full review of each tablet or an unboxing or anything i'm just going to give you my general recommendation and how i felt about each tablet and then tell you which one i think you should purchase the first tablet i tried was the xp pen because this was the cheapest obviously this was the one i wanted to like the most i didn't want to be biased but this thing is 1200 less than the cintiq pro if it performs at the level i want this basically confirms that wacom is way overpriced and i can save twelve hundred dollars which is a lot of money i love this tablet without even trying the other ones i loved it so much i was tempted to just stop here take the blue pill and ignore what those other tablets were offering this tablet felt so good it performed at the level i was expecting there wasn't any issues with like parallax or jitter or driver problems or whatever it just just worked i love that it came with this nifty little stand i could adjust i liked the feel of the pen on the screen and the buttons on the side were pretty handy but to be honest i use the keyboard i don't touch those buttons anyway so i didn't really care but whatever they seemed cool on the negative side the pen felt a little bit cheap the buttons didn't have a great tactile feel to them and they sort of felt like uncomfortable and plasticky overall really awesome i loved it then i decided to move on to the most expensive tablet the wacom cintiq pro 24 inch to see what that 1200 spies me side note the wacom pro seem to use less plastic in its packaging so if you're into that kind of thing points to wacom again i didn't want to be biased but i really wanted to hate this tablet if it performed just as good or better yet worse than the xp pen i could confirm that the wacom tablets are way overblown and priced and better alternatives exist after trying out some drawing and sculpting i sort of half confirmed my suspicion the feel of the pen on the tablet was much better than the feel of the pen on the xp pen tablet it's difficult to describe but on the cintiq pro it almost felt like a very smooth paper whereas on the xp pen it definitely felt like a pen rubbing on a monitor this really made a difference when 3d sculpting i felt like i had so much more control over the pen and it was just delightful to use for 2d the cintiq pro and the xp pen were about the same in my opinion but i'm not as good at 2d so who knows in terms of screen resolution the cintiq pro has a higher resolution capability but if you switch to the ultra high res mode it makes everything on the screen impossibly small to see and it's basically useless for my eyes at least i ended up scaling the cintiq pro to the same resolution as the xp pen so it made no difference there the cintiq pro comes with this little remote with buttons on it but i think it's stupid and i'm not gonna use it at least it detaches from the main display it's connected by this magnet that actually feels like pretty weak and it makes the remote spin and i don't know i think it's pretty low quality but again i don't care i use the keyboard so whatever i'm sure they charge me extra for this but i don't really care the buttons on the pen for the wacom cintiq pro felt a lot better than the pen of the xp pen they had a nice tactile feel and they didn't feel too plasticky and they were comfortable to press by comparison wacom has a pro version of their pen that they sell online that i will probably consider purchasing that has like an extra button on the thumb which is useful for 3d modeling having said all this did i feel like the cintiq pro was 1200 better than the xp pen no way not even close i bought these fake 20 bills on amazon and i'll be honest i have loved every minute of having them maybe maybe it felt 300 better at the most than the xp pen also worth mentioning the cintiq pro has a touch version if you hate having money but i prefer the untouched version because it's cheaper i don't use the touch and it's baby proof also the wacom has this fan inside that blows when you set the brightness to higher levels it didn't bother me that much so i was fine with it that brings us to the 22-inch cintiq regular i have nothing to say about this tablet except do not purchase it it doesn't even come close to the xp pen not by a long shot the screen doesn't feel as good as the pro and the resolution really isn't high enough for me things look kind of blurry the color tint is off on the screen too so it also looks kind of cheap this basically confirms for me that wacom is overpriced this tablet doesn't even hold a candle to the xp pen and it's over four hundred dollars more so between the xp pen artist display 24 the cintiq pro 24 and the cintiq 22 here is what my recommendation is the cintiq pro is the best feeling tablet but i would say it's about 300 of better feeling than the xp pen so that means the cintiq pro should be priced around eleven hundred dollars instead of being priced at two thousand dollars which means it's marked up by nine hundred dollars so here's my recommendation if you feel comfortable throwing away nine hundred dollars towards your art career buy the cintiq pro it's the best tablet but if this bothers you purchase the xp pen artist pro 24 it didn't feel quite as good as the cintiq pro but it was still really really really good if you get it you won't have any fomo or regret it's a super high quality device the existence of the xp pen makes the wacom 22's existence essentially meaningless and that's pretty much it if you enjoyed this video make sure you do all the normal youtube stuff thanks and i haven't thought of a cool catch phrase to end the video but see you next time
