life is better when you have plus [Music] in the last couple of years the toyota innova has not really had any serious competitors in its class it's actually really only a class of one because a lot of the competitor models have already driven off into the sunset like uh the isuzu crosswind and even the mitsubishi adventure geely wants to change all that with the okavango this is a larger seven-seater mpv or suv we'll settle that one a little bit later now our buddy anton went in great detail about the design of the okabango so i won't rehash the things that he said like the expanding cosmos grill the suv look and the like we will just point out the differences with this upgraded urban plus version for example this one gets adaptive led headlamps it really does work and it's kind of trippy the way the beam bends around the corners as you turn the major difference from the outside is right up top it's the sunroof now when julie launched the okavango last year it was the only model in the well the third model in the lineup and it was the only one that did not have a sunroof they've rectified that in this version now over in the side it gets a little bit more confusing because some things are suv some things are very mpv for example the wheel arches they're not wider per se but they try to create that illusion with this crease right here and same thing over there in the back those roof rails are functional like an suv there's a there's an appearance of height off the ground like an suv but the overall length versus uh the height of the vehicle is quite mpv which one is which well you decide so here's the back side of the gili okavango not really much to write home about it's very minimalist it's very clean there are two ways to open the trunk one is via your key the other one is the button right there it's a power tailgate making it very easy now julie calls this wonderfully distinct because they couldn't really make up their minds whether it's an suv or mpv i just prefer to call it wonderfully neat [Music] so [Music] so here's the engine bay of the jili okavango urban plus it's got the 1.5 liter uh turbo direct injection engine and it's got a 48 volt ems or a mild hybrid system it makes 190 horsepower at 5 500 rpm and 300 newton meters of torque at 1500 to up to 4 000 rpm so that's actually pretty good for a vehicle and for an engine of this size this is purely front wheel drive and it's got a seven speed wet dual clutch transmission normally in other gle models we can only see the engine cover and more cowling right over it but in this one they've actually left most of that out so it gives us a peak of what's going on inside for example the air filter is here but the intake is up here so that should help with the water weighting if you have to we can see that the battery is actually nicely covered overall and then we can see the vibration management that julie has done with this engine as we mentioned before three-cylinder engines can be a bit shaky but if you look here the vibration here is not being transferred by that huge engine mount right over there meaning this should be a very comfortable and very smooth drive so here's the front of the okavango's interior well again as before with other glee models everything feels very much high grade the shifter feels solid in your hands the buttons the knob here all the toggles here the materials they use no fake wood here or of any kind we like that we love the leather the stitching it's all real um the d-cut steering wheel again feels great in your hands buttons feel great the hd uh touchscreen unit the 10.25 inch unit looks great again the response is great still one of our favorites has a 360 degree camera also one of the best ones the big improvement here uh there's two actually one is the instrument cluster it's a bigger hd unit it actually remains reminds me of this one right here it's definitely better looks a lot more crisp and a lot sharper than before uh the other one of course is the panoramic sunroof yes when you do open that thing it does feel a lot better inside just lets in a lot more air a lot more light uh they have two usb charging ports here surprisingly though julie did not opt to put in a wireless charging pad right here for my phone that would have made it really really fantastic the other thing though this one does not have apple carplay or android auto which is kind of a downer considering how great the actual unit is but don't let anybody else know but in the gili club they're now starting to hack this unit to give you android auto and apple carplay [Music] do [Music] the way the okavango urban plus rides is just well surprising uh yes it is a fairly big vehicle but it feels much bigger than the dimensions actually are if i were to compare it to any other vehicle in terms of the ride maybe it's a smaller version of a ford expedition something like that it just glides over a lot of the rough stuff you know it just doesn't give you the feeling that it's transmitting it to the cabin like we run over let's say right here concrete no problem at all there's not much droning inside it's very very muted of course it's strange to compare the ride to something like the expedition that is a far bigger vehicle and it's far higher i mean even the seating position alone this is the lowest setting and uh the belt line of the vehicle is already fairly high so you sit in it more like a passenger car rather than an suv and it's also important to remember that this is a unibody this is not a body-on-frame vehicle so that's also the reason why it rides a little bit differently it's more car-like and that's what we like about it it gives you the the feeling of the size of the vehicle the the practicality of a seven seater but the driving experience is more similar to let's say a premium saloon car or a premium wagon i did ask julie what the weight of the vehicle is and the answer they gave me was the weight of the urban and this urban plus is actually the same as at just over 1 700 kilograms which i said that's kind of weird because a sunroof i mean particularly a panoramic sunroof will add easily around 50 kilograms of weight uh to a vehicle and put it way up there so it kind of changes the center of gravity the way the the vehicle handles it's not really affecting it that much but i just found it weird that they didn't have a number for it the mild hybrid system honestly i can't feel much of it yet because it only generally activates usually at night and usually on a downhill the biggest effect that the mild hybrid does have or the 48 volt ems has is it cuts off the engine uh when you're stuck in traffic and let's uh let's the battery system kind of operate all the electrical functions of the vehicle other than that um it's really more of an idle start stop and just gives a little bit of a boost when you need it to under hard acceleration despite the system being mild fuel economy is actually superb for a vehicle of this size with just me in the vehicle i was getting 10.1 kilometers per liter at an average speed of about 21 kilometers per hour that one i actually tried multiple times on my way to and from the house and that was strange because yeah a vehicle this big this heavy shouldn't be doing something like that and it's also a petrol engine it's a gasoline turbo engine not a turbo diesel so props to genie for getting that one right now in terms of outright performance that's where i was also very impressed with this yes it the javanco urban plus is a very heavy vehicle but it was able to do a 0 to 100 sprint in just 12.32 seconds mind you i did something differently with this one because instead of just doing the zero to 100 we just me and the vehicle i did it with four of us plus camera gear in the back so a lot more weight but the urban plus was able to move it along very very nicely i expected something like this to kind of wallow around the bins but no it actually feels quite composed the response of the seven speed dct could be a bit better but it's actually not too bad at all the way it shifts it's quite smooth it's quite slick only in low speeds do you feel a little bit of the dct-ness of it but even then it's just minute compared to a lot of older dcts particularly the dry ones that we've driven before so now here i am in the middle row of the ocavango and it's actually surprisingly good because this is one of the rare times that we have an mpv with three individual seats in the middle row we just don't see that in any of any of the other vehicles so where other vehicles other competitor models typically have a 60 40 split here in the middle here it's a 33 33 33 so yeah it's very uh equally distributed one thing we want to point out is that um they could have eliminated this pod here for the power window unit because it's actually almost quite pointless because you've got your grab handle here and you have another grab handle here so they just eliminated this whole thing freed up maybe an inch or two of extra hip room here in the back so the third row of the hovango well i normally don't sit here but surprisingly it's quite good i still have about maybe two inches of knee room with these seats though you know set the way they are uh one thing i want to point out these backrests actually recline even on the third row so you have about i think three or four positions that you can set it to but you do have to reach around for the strap here to be able to do so there's no control here on the side that i can feel so that's something to keep in mind your ac vent is right here it's controlled by that panel over there so whoever's sitting here you better better make good friends with them to set it for you one thing we also want to point out is that the wheel wells the protrusion into the cabin instead of in normal vehicles in normal uh three row suvs and ppvs the scalloping is like well the shape is like like this but in the okavango the shape is like that so it gives you a little bit more yeah a little bit more thigh room and you have your own pad which can fit your phone yeah and you have your own cup holder one for either side so whoever is sitting here they're not gonna feel like they're flying in super economy class where you have to pay for your own water and your own peanuts so one thing that's unique about the okavango is the tilting mechanism for the second row because when you're coming from the third row normally the seats just fold down or tumble in this vehicle it's a bit different you pull this tab it it doesn't just fold the backrest forward it actually lifts the cushion up and tilts it forward so that gives you a bit more tow room to get around and then you just push it all the way and then you can get out [Music] the gili okabango is definitely one surprising multi-purpose vehicle yes we will call it an mpv not an suv because the way it is we can't really compare it against the likes of let's say fortuner montero sport terra and those other models this is really more of an innova competitor now what does it bring to the table a great drive great looks a great interior comfortable ride lots of features a very versatile cabin in terms of configurations and yes the addition of that panoramic sunroof does enhance the feeling inside by quite a bit in terms of srp this retails for 1 million and 478 000 pesos that means it's about 150 000 more than the gili okavango urban will that convince you well the srp of this will only net you a mid-grade innova yes we're very glad that there's a model out there in our market that can somehow break the dominance of the toyota innova this is vince of auto industrial thank you for watching if
