2021 Ford Territory Review - Behind the Wheel

whenever we get a new car the team likes to get together and try to find fault in that particular car and when i say team actually being just earl because he's mean that way now with this next particular automobile earl did try his best his darndest but he had a very difficult time doing so and that on its own is a feat because that guy's anal like a mother father now crossovers were all the rage a couple of years back evidence with the ford ecosport but now in 2020 a bit bigger seems to be a lot better turning heads and attracting cameras this is the 2021 ford territory titanium [Music] plus [Music] [Music] now i'm going to be completely honest with you because with a front clip like this how can you just not stare at it it's really good looking and with this color too it's really amazing what a hue of blue can do now up front you get almost and i do mean almost an all led affair with led headlamps drls down below which also double as your turn signals with the only hold out being the halogen fog lamps now this lighting array flanks a nicely textured mesh grille in black and a four skid plate found down below gotta say gotta hand it to them darn good looking front clip open her up and you are looking at very neat engine covers i like it but underneath that you're looking at a 1.5 liter turbocharged engine that produces 141 horses and 225 newton meters of torque mated to a cvt a first for ford in the philippines which makes for a great combination in terms of fuel economy now we tested it and we got about eight inside metro manila traffic you do have to admit traffic's a little bit light nowadays but when that even clears up you're looking at about 10. now on the highway you're doing 15 kilometers per liter so it's not stellar but decent is it closed i hope it's closed close close close close close now i know i was enamored with the front clip but on its side profile you can tell that the bumper kind of sticks out ever so slightly it's not as bad as leonardo dicaprio's lower lip in the wolf of wall street when he's high on quaaludes no nothing like that but everything else on the side of the car actually is pretty good looking you're looking at 180 millimeters of ground clearance 18 inch wheels 50 series tires a couple of garnishes down below garnish up on top repeaters on the side mirror cameras one of four to give you a 360 degree view and very shapely window panels down the side that kind of mimic the entire shape of the car all the way from the a-pillar up to the c-pillar you see it and the rear well that kind of looks a bit familiar if you see the resemblance with another automobile let us know in the comments down below speaking of the rear now the rear is almost as good looking as the front clip and almost an led affair just like the front clip you got led tail lamps led reverse lamps led fog lamps unfortunately you only have halogen plate lamps yeah i know that's nitpicking what isn't nitpicking however is too much chrome and when i say two i don't mean t-o-o i mean t-w-o meaning exhibit a and exhibit b because these guys are actually false tips the real exhaust can be found underneath open it up and you're looking at 420 very usable liters of space thanks to the flat lip and a 12 volt socket to boot now when you fold the rear seats you're looking at over a thousand one hundred years of space which is not bad not bad at all the second row of the territory is actually quite surprising you get a lot of legroom not so much headroom that's just pretty steady but the legroom is actually that's pretty wild man you can cross your legs and everything that's jack's normal driving position and i still do have a lot of space thanks basically to the elevated seats so seats by the way leather whether you're in the trend or the titanium you get perforated seats which are actually very very nice now toys back here include a center armrest with two cup holders in a very elevated position too you get deep ball holders on either door speakers air vents up front a charging point in the center and the ps the resistance of course your own personal solarium good for up to five people now up front there is a lot and i do mean a lot to talk about and to cover but the beauty about it is that it's not overwhelming you've got soft touches here fall wood here buttons that feel good to the touch yes you still have piano black plastics found all over more than a steinway actually but yet it just adds to its so premium feel the one thing though that i cannot stress about is how clear the 360 degree camera is it is like a 4k television it's awesome you get buttons on a flat bottom steering wheel an all digital gauge cluster with different display modes a 10 inch infotainment system with android auto and wireless yes wireless apple carplay and even a wireless charging pad you even get ambient lightning with up to seven colors and getting into the proper driving position is not a problem thanks to the 10-way power seats and telescopic steering wheel to add even more comfort to that you've got heated and cooled seats for the driver and passenger this thing is loaded and loaded when i say loaded i mean like bill gates loaded i'm not talking about kanye west loaded that's just fake loaded this thing is loaded it's also got six airbags abs with ebd traction control hill launch assist enhanced park assist system blind spot monitoring lane departure warning adaptive cruise control with forward collision warning autonomous emergency braking a tire pressure monitoring system and finally high suffix tether [Music] driving the territory is actually an exceptional experience okay granted i would have wanted an all-wheel drive system yes but for its price it's actually not bad you expect less but then you get so much more the chassis is well behaved the road noise the engine noise the wind noise is down to a minimum well maybe until you pass about 110 kilometers per hour but then it starts creeping in but other than that it's actually quite refined even when you're stuck in traffic it's really a nice place to be in i like it i like it a lot the engine and the transmission though i'll say this it's not gonna set your pants on fire it is after all only a 1.5 liter yes granted it's a turbo but it's also a cvt so it's obviously not a mustang not many things are now uh when you're stuck in traffic it is surprising because when you step on it just a little bit it's like a gecko when you turn on the light it just springs to life but when you're at speed and you bury your foot the car sort of like needs to think before it actually accelerates much better if you half accelerate and it gets to speed much much faster the beauty about it is either you bury your foot or you have step like i said it does so really quietly it's whisper quiet now going over bumps in the territory is actually quite good possibly thanks to the fully independent suspension found at the rear it's plush it's pliant and positively pleasurable positively pleasurable you know even sitting at the back is actually not bad because of all the space i love it the one thing that does have a learning curve however and it's a pretty steep one is the infotainment system yes granted it's pretty easy when you actually know what you're doing but when you first get into the car yeah that's going to take some practice practice that you don't want to do when you're on the road rather but when you're parked whether you're operating the radio the air or the wireless controls of whatever apple carplay that you want to do it just takes some time and you don't want to do it and get into an accident at the same time do you because the last thing you want to hear is ah oh no [Music] now when we get a car for review from a manufacturer or a dealer it's actually pretty straightforward we get the car we drive it we critique it we write it we review it we shoot it done deal process delivered right pretty straightforward pretty simple but it wasn't so simple with this car because well we actually had our work cut out for us for two very big reasons number one and i'm not trying to blow sunshine up for its ass but this is a thoroughly impressive automobile number two is its price tag because the 2021 territory titanium is available at 1 million 299 000 philippine pesos so it's not just a great crossover it's also a steel [Music] you
