[Music] hey what's up guys matt here coming to you from laidlaw's harley-davidson so today we're going to take a close look at the 2021 model year a cvo streak glide the first year that the cvo streetlight debuted was in 2010 and since then we've seen our 10th cvo street glide this model year being the 10th one since the first year that we saw the cvo streakline in 2010 we've seen the cvo streetlight every year with the exception of the 13 and the 14 model year so it's been a really popular bike obviously the street glide makes up a large portion of harley-davidson's overall touring chassis bikes sold so it makes only sense to make a cvo version of it so first off we're going to take a close look at the three different colors that are available this year first of all you've got the sunset orange and sunset black fade you've got the great white pearl and you've got the bronze armor like i've mentioned in some of my other cvo videos that i've made recently it's kind of cool that the designers not only change the paint on the tins like the fender and the fuel tank but they also change little details like the seat interfering the finishes on the engine forks exhaust systems so the color you select on a cvo really makes up more than just the paint on the tins it also makes up the different finishes and touches throughout the entire bike so each of these three different paint options truly are unique from head to toe all right so let's jump into a walk around on the three different paint options for the 2021 model year cvo street glide i'm going to go over the design and style of the bike i'm going to go over the electronics like the stereo and i'm going to go over the performance of the bike and i recommend the bike too and try to help you figure out if this bike would be a good purchase based on your riding habits and your stature and your riding experience so first off we've got the bronze armor now the bronze armor is a color that's shared by both the cvo road glide and also the cvo ultra limited really cool color very striking when you look at it it's just this very monochromatic looking bike where you've got a lot of the finishes that match the paint so things like the exhaust heat shield the pushrod tubes are all bronze kind of a cool feature the lower rocker box covers are sandwiched between the upper and the lower which are black really cool contrast there you've got the 19-inch wheel fugitive wheel in the front the fugitive wheel was a new wheel design as of last model year the 2020 model year and i actually really like the fugitive wheel i've actually thought about putting it on my 2018 streak glide so you've also got bronze lower legs on here so lower forks you've got bronze as well and that's offset by the upper fork cans and the axle nut covers in black a really cool contrast between black and bronze on here you've got a bronze cover there and the lower chin spoiler there that covers up the oil cooler and the voltage regulator you've got a really clean harley-davidson tank badge very simplistic on this bike i've noticed that they really try to keep this bike simple in design there's not a whole lot of busy graphics and stripes on this bike which i feel like a lot more of my customers prefer nowadays a lot of people don't like the busyness some people i know prefer like a really busy and loud and really intricate paint job but this one kind of goes the opposite direction here in the inner fairing you've got the bronze interfering that matches the paint and everything you've also got the cvo dash there that has the harley-davidson cvo insignia that illuminates on the dash when the ignition turns on you've got the gas filler on the right hand side which is a flush mounted gas cap keeps everything really clean and you've got the 6.5 gts boom audio stereo system this is the same as your regular road glide and street glide special with the exception that this bike does have the whim i'll get more into that in a minute and you've got the heavy breather air cleaner intake heavy breather has like that elbow style really performance inspired styling to it and you've got that 117 on the side of the air cleaner which leads me to the engine here so the engine you got a 117 in here which i'm going to get more to in a minute other details on this bike include the controls so you've got the kahuna collection on the controls here that was a collection of hand and foot controls that came out a couple years ago two or three years ago the kuna collection is pretty dang nice uh i feel like harley davidson's used it on their cvos for a few years now which i'm not arguing about because they look really really good they look very premium at the same time they look custom and they look very factory very polished and very finished almost more like a little bit more of like a modern like futuristic vibe to them and the kahuna collection is highlighted by the red outline of the bar and shield little stamps everywhere throughout the floorboards and the grips you've got the chopped engine guard on there so the chopped is like that lower profile engine guard as opposed to one that mounts higher up on the down tubes of the frame so one little touch that makes the cvo look a little bit more custom you do have those chopped engine guards on the specials this year so the road glad and the street glide special have the chopped engine guard so on the seat you've got the cross stitch perforated leather it's like a panel that has the perforation and the cross stitching on it and you've got the cvo embroidered on the back of the the bucket part of the seat and you've got the passenger seat that slips over the top there this is a removable passenger seat so if you're not riding with a passenger and you want to take it off and go more of a minimalist look you can have like that raw bear fender you've got the rockford fosgate stereo this year which is a brand new upgrade for the cvo road glide and street guide this year i'll go more into that in a little bit one of the distinct features about the streak light is you have the fairing mounted mirrors there on the cvo street cloud it takes it a step further and you've got like the i want to guess like a cnc aluminum metal mirror there as opposed like the plastic mirrors that come on the other street glides so kind of a nice piece there you've got the wind splitter windshield on here that's smoked as well and you've got the windshield trim there that separates the windshield from the upper fairing the slipstream vent there you've got color matched as well as opposed to just like that dull black plastic here's a nice shot of the front headlamp you've got that seven inch led adaptive daymaker headlamp on there super nice headlamp that's like a 700 headlight right there if you were to buy it retail over the counter and you've got stretch saddle bags on here of course and you've got that nice cvo signature rear fascia there with the fender that has the two led light bars that that are situated between the rear fender and the saddle bags you've got no big bulky tail lights on there no big bulky like bullet turn signals either everything's all integrated into the light strips for like a like a premium modern look on there and beyond that guys like i said the bronze armor has the black and bronze finishes on all the engine trim and forks and exhaust and covers on the engine and so throughout the bike you've got a lot of black stuff like the black bars you've got your levers the brake and clutch lever blacked out the black version of the kahuna collection of course the level of detail on the cvo's took it a step further you've got like cvo emblems on the brake calipers and just places that you'll never really notice unless you see the bike up close and in person so next up we've got the great white pearl paint scheme so on this bike you've got mostly black touching the milwaukee 8 so everything from your rocker box covers transmission cover your cam timer cover your heavy breather that stuff is all black you do have a bronzed out exhaust system so the heat shields on the header pipe the muffler those are all bronze uh which kind of gives it a cool contrast i believe this is the same bronze touch that we see on the bronze armor and then you've got a couple subtle red highlights as well so the lower rocker box covers and you've got red highlighting on the derby cover as well which kind of ties in with the striping that you've got on the paint so very tastefully done when i first saw this bike online i thought okay that's an okay you know paint scheme and i obviously impartial to white bikes but this bike when you see it in person is pretty dang awesome like when i first saw this thing come off the truck i was like damn that thing is very nice looking you've got this circular badge on the tank so again one more thing to kind of differentiate this bike from the other ones different medallion as you remember the last bike we looked at just had a harlot davidson text across the tank and you've got a really clean cvo logo on the saddle bags there with the outline in red of the bar and shield same rear fascia and you can see how that two-tone black and white tie together and have like a stripe down the middle of the bike basically super nice looking paint on here you've got the black kahuna collection on here and you can see the lower rocker box covers there or in that what they call blazing red in little places like on the horn cover you got that red bar and shield as well everything just to tie everything together and you've got the blacked out led daymaker on here as well you also have led turn signals i don't know if i mentioned that or not harley-davidson did just come out with a brand new led turn signal this year that's like an insert in the past we've used a lot of custom dynamics turn signal inserts and so we've pretty much all swapped over the harley stuff now so that was a nice new part for the 21 model year and here's a close-up shot of the milwaukee 8 you've got the screaming eagle text on the rocker box covers there so i wanted to touch a little bit on the electronics of this bike as well so on these cvos you do have a keyless bike so you pretty much just click the run switch on the bike and that fires up the ignition there's no need to turn a little fob on the dash like on the other street glides like the non-cvo streak lights you've also got the key that has the buttons to lock and unlock your saddle bags and your fork lock if the bike is physically in the four o'clock position so for the most part the key stays in your pocket no need to really use your barrel key anywhere on the entire bike you're just pressing the button to lock and unlock everything to utilize the fork lock when you step off you'll need to turn the bars to the left and then change positions of the fork lock and then the key will automatically lock the bike for you like i mentioned before you've got harley davidson's boom audio 6.5 gts system this was the new radio as of 2019 model year so the only difference from the other bikes so the cvo is you have a little bit different boot up splash screen that says cvo on there just to remind you you are riding a cvo and then this bike has the whim equipped the wireless headset interface module which basically is what you need to talk to a wireless headset which speaking of headsets you also get one of the 30k senna harley-davidson headsets on here so this bike comes ready to communicate wirelessly via bluetooth the top of this tank is super nice too we've got that harley-davidson that's spelled out horizontally across the top of the tank and then you got a stripe on the other side so it's kind of an asymmetrical paint design the gauges also have bezels that kind of jut out of the dash there too just one more touch to kind of give it that performance inspired look you do have heated grips on all these bikes if i haven't mentioned that already cruise control is standard every year since 2014. you do have the rdrs on all the cvo's of course the rdrs is the reflex defensive rider system that came up last year in the 20 model years that's basically your traction control system your hill hold mode and your tire pressure monitoring system you do not have the sirius xm satellite receiver you have had that in the past harley-davidson doesn't put it on there anymore i feel like a lot of people just don't use it and so it was an expense that a lot of people didn't take advantage of and so they took it off there is a module that's a plug-and-play that you can buy in the parts and accessory catalog i want to say it's like three or four hundred bucks to put that on that will give you the satellite radio reception on here if you want to go that route so one of the big changes this year on the cvo road glide and street glide is you do have the rockford fosgate boom audio stage 2 system for the longest time the boom audio stage 2 stuff was i believe developed by harmon and cardin i could be wrong there but they use rockford fosgate stuff now and super loud super crisp previous generation boom two audio stuff was really nice in my opinion but this stuff is super good it's just as good if not a little bit better i'd be splitting straws to really say you know this is a lot better than the old one i don't think it's a lot better than the old one i do hope that the reliability is a little bit better we did have some people blow out saddlebag speakers with the old system so hopefully this one is a little bit better reliability the seat on this one has kind of like a perforated leather paneling it's like a tuck and roll style seat on here so again one more thing that makes this different than the bronze armor one that i just showed you and it's got like a metal emblem in the back of the seat something i noticed on the website was it showed this seat on the bronze armor street glide so that's an error on the website but yeah this bike this seat is definitely different than the bronze armor one so you can see that metal harley-davidson logo inlaid into the back of the seat there in the bucket here's a nice shot of the rear fascia of the great white pearl tail section you do have black end caps on the bronze heat shields on this bike so that about does it for the great white pearl just a clean great looking color so far this model year we've pretty much sold an equivalent amount of these different bikes it's interesting to see people's preferences and this model year i feel like there's really no one standout color like everyone kind of has their own preference usually every model year there's one or two paint schemes that everybody wants the other two you know no one really cares too much for but the smaller year i feel like every paint color like is desirable and so there's still people out there that prefer the chrome over the black and vice versa and so it's nice that harley davidson gave us a variety of different finishes on these bikes to really target everybody that wants to get a cvo so last but not least you've got the sunset orange and sunset black fade so on this bike you've got a lot of accidents in the chrome so all the engine accents and the finishes on the exhaust and the wheel contrasts and the forks the handlebars all that good stuff you've got nipton chrome so if you're a chrome guy this is definitely the bike to go with uh of the three i feel like the paint is the most involved on this one meaning the fade the orange to the black fade is an awesome paint process that harley davidson does so i really like the paint scheme itself on this bike me personally i'm more of a blacked out guy and so i probably prefer the other two to this bike as a whole package but the paint on this bike is gorgeous i can really appreciate it for what it is you know things like the headlight as well you've got the chrome headlights like the backing is all chrome back there you've still got the blaze and orange lower rocker box covers and the hints on the derby cover in little areas like that throughout the bike but the sunset orange sunset black fade is a pretty awesome looking bike that's for sure i had more calls on this than any of the three at first beginning of the model year now i probably get bronze armor calls more than anything but it's just funny this guy kind of goes back and forth between all three colors me personally if i were to get one i'd probably get the great white pearl so let's talk a little bit about performance on this so you've got the milwaukee 8 117 the 117 started to be used in the 2018 model year so we've seen the 117 being used on the cvos for about four years now so during this last four years it's probably been the smallest increase between a regular like rogue ladder street glide special and the cvos we're talking about three cubic inches so really there's not a huge performance increase but the engine numbers output on this bike you're gonna do about 100 horsepower and about 125 foot-pounds of torque on the dyno on a bike like this with a 117. i will say too though that the cam profile is different on these bikes i feel like these bikes like to be out on the highway so up on the freeway i feel like they've got better roll on speed you know from 60 to 80 miles an hour you'll probably got like one bike length on a bike with a 114 in it they're fast though i mean you're never gonna feel like you're you're underpowered on a cvo that's for sure i mean these things are just like you know a torquey freight train going on the highway so ton of fun to ride so let's talk a little bit about who i recommend this bike to and maybe some valuation stuff because you know since i work at a dealer i deal with values on bikes all the time and this is kind of a topic that gets brought up a lot so a lot of people they really try to analyze the value of a cvo so on these bikes you're looking at a little over forty thousand dollars and people say okay well is it worth it well if you were to try to take a street glide special and build it out to a cvo you're going to spend i think we did the math one time you're going to spend about 32 thousand dollars above and beyond the cost of a street glide special and that includes labor as well so if you value all the eye candy and the goodies and the fancy paint on these bikes and the extra three cubic inches and all the electronics and the the better stereo system you value all that stuff then hands down no doubt this is a great value for your money sometimes i get guys and they say what's so special about a cvo and i start going through the list and they start telling me like well that doesn't matter to me well that doesn't matter maybe that doesn't matter to me okay cool they know by the cvo you know just get a regular street glide special on the flip side i get some guys that buy a street glide special and then they spend twenty thirty thousand dollars into it and they have now a bike that they spend 30 000 for the base model another 30 putting all the goodies on it and everything so you're now in at 60 000 and just looking at that bike spec to spec to a cvo a lot of times they have about the equivalent or maybe sometimes even a little bit less than what the cvo offers now i will say if you take the 30 grand you can do it yourself and truly make a bike that is uniquely different and uniquely yours so if that is your priority by all means grab the stock streetlight special and throw the money into it and make it exactly the way you want to make it but if you're a guy that just wants a sick looking street glide special with a lot of cool stuff on it that's all genuine harley it's all warranteeable and you don't want it to lose its value nearly as fast as your 60 thousand dollar street glide that you poured 30 grand into then the cvo is a great option so let's stick to that topic market values knows that these bikes are a little over 40 msrp when they're brand new so once you start applying depreciation to that it's going to take that into account and obviously there's other factors like desirability and supply in the marketplace and so a cvo is going to hold its value a heck of a lot better than a street glide special is going to hold its value with 30 000 of parts and accessories into it there's also something to say about a factory original me personally and i've said this before i always want to buy the bike that has as much of the equipment on it coming from the factory as possible that way i'm adding the least amount of stuff as possible after the fact am i still going to add a lot of stuff on my bike just because i'm a harley fanatic absolutely but if you're someone that values and can make use of 90 of the stuff that's on the cvo well then the cvo is a really good option for you i mean everything down to like the cable like the brake and clutch lines you've got still braided i mean there's just a lot of details on this bike but if you tried to add it to a regular street glide special you're going to be spending like exponentially more money and now i will say too that there's a lot of guys that half of the fun of buying and owning a harley-davidson is jumping into the catalog jumping online finding those parts that they really like that stand out to them buying them bolted onto your your bike and kind of making it this this ever morphing creation of yours where you can remember like okay well i remember when i put that on i did these bars i did this exhaust and so you feel like it's more yours whereas the guys that buy the cvo it's like okay i bought the cvo someone else used their creative juices on this bike and now i'm just enjoying it for what it is so if you're someone that likes to put their own spin his own touches on on things then maybe the cvo may not be as appealing to you and then if you go to the opposite side of that spectrum you know the guys that buy the cvos and then do like custom paint on them or something like that those guys i just want to give a big fat slap across the face why would you buy the mona lisa and then paint over it if you're gonna buy a cvo don't paint over it now i understand maybe changing bars maybe change the exhaust but if you're gonna start bolting up a bunch of new stuff to the cvo don't buy the cvo yes a couple changes here and there that's fine but why would you spend good money on like the best of the best parts hand controls finishes on the bike and then turn around and take good stuff off to put other good stuff on that just doesn't make sense so don't be that cvo buyer guys and if you want to get practical and the best type of use for this bike i really feel like this is a great like day tripper bike you've got your saddle bags for stuff if you want to ride a passenger great the passenger seat isn't the most comfortable in the world but that can easily be swapped out for a more comfortable like hammock seat or sundowner seat that's a two-up capable likes to get on the highway so if you're a guy that rides the inner city rides the surface streets a lot and doesn't get over like 40 miles an hour very often then the cvo probably isn't the good bike for you this is the bike that like i said likes to get out likes to get out in the uh the upper rpms higher speeds because i feel like the bike is tuned for like highway speeds a little bit better than it is like the down low stop light the stop light anyways guys thanks for watching this 2021 model year cvo street glide highlight video if you have any questions feel free to drop them in the comments below i try to answer
