In today's video I’m going to do a mini review
on 10 of Australia’s more popular rooftop tents I actually ended up with 12, so stick around until
the end for some bonus information. If you enjoy the info, don't forget to hit the like button

If this is your first visit, hi my name is Del welcome to my channel. Today's video is
going to be a little bit different as we're in Melbourne in July and we're back in lockdown so
this is another indoor one. I was doing a little bit of research into rooftop tents and I thought
I’ll put it all into video that way anyone else in Australia looking for a rooftop tent can
watch the video and hopefully get some tips. These aren't the best rooftop tents in Australia,
they are just 10 different types that I could find information about. Obviously I can't go
out and try them all out so I’ve had to rely on Google and YouTube. Anyway, I’ve put all
the information together into one video so hopefully it's enough. If you have anything to say
about the rooftop tents that I’m going to look at in this video or anything to add or any rooftop
tents that you use that are not in the video, feel free to leave a comment below. If you enjoyed
the video give me a thumbs-up if you didn't enjoy the video give me a thumbs down. Let me know
what you think. Okay this is my list of some of the more popular rooftop tents currently available
in Australia. Pricing is at the time of recording this video. There is no specific order to the list
except for the top three. The rest are ordered by soft shell tents followed by hard shell tents. In
the description, I have added chapter links so if there is a specific tent that you would like to
know more about, you can click straight through to that section. I’ve included two bonus rooftop
tents at the end of this video - The Adventure Kings Grand Tourer Mark II because of its
popularity and affordability and the James Baroud because it is probably the king of the rooftop
tents. The first rooftop tent on my list is the Adventure Kings rooftop tent as it's by far the
most popular rooftop tent in the Aussie market, probably because of its price. At $899 it's the
cheapest tent by far. This is a soft rooftop tent from Adventure Kings that is incredibly spacious
and even comes with the option of an impressive four-person annex to make it even bigger. The tent
itself weighs 57 kilograms which is average for rooftop tents. Installation is super quick - you
just place the tent on top of your roof rack and use the included plates and bolts to secure it by
tightening with the wrenches. Setup is easy even with just one person and takes about three to four
minutes. Remove the cover, unbuckle the straps, slide the ladder out and then use it to pull the
tent down and finally attach the support bar. The sleeping area is an impressive 3.1 meters
by 1.45 meters which is huge for a rooftop tent. The extra thick 75mm open cell foam mattress is
great for a comfortable night's sleep other great features include a 320 gsm polycotton ripstop
canvas, large doors and windows on all four walls, an adjustable 2 meter alloy ladder and a heavy
duty PVC floor that's easy to remove and clean. I chose the Darche Panorama rooftop tent in second
place because I love the idea of a sun or moon roof. Darche is a well-known brand which makes
quality products and this tent is no different. The tent weighs just under 64 kg. Installation is
surprisingly straightforward thanks to the clear and detailed instructions and the tent comes with
all brackets, mounting plates and bolts needed to fit the tent and also includes the correct wrench.
Once installed, the assembly is really quick and easy with just one person. Simply remove the
cover, release the straps, use the ladder as a lever to pull the tent down and then insert the
poles into the lugs and peg down the guide ropes. The tent has a good size sleeping area 2.4 meters
by 1.4 meters and the high density 50mm mattress provides a comfortable night's sleep. Other
features include 320 gsm poly cotton ripstop canvas, full width 180 degree side windows, a
telescopic ladder, built-in air vents and double stitched seams. At $2,199 this tent is almost
triple the cost of the Kings rooftop tent. I chose the Camp King rooftop tent in third place as it's
the only fully Australian-made rooftop tent - even the canvas is made here in Australia but it
comes at a hefty price - $6,970 to be exact. This is a premium quality tent that is built to
last. It's completely waterproof and dustproof and is suitable for all weather and will keep you
warm in winter with its closed cell foam roof. The frame and ladder are built with strong 2mm
5005 grade aluminium and the tent weighs in at around 90 kg. Installation is fast and not
complicated and the setup time for this one is around one and a half minutes. You can
leave the bedding inside when it's closed too. The tent measures 2.17 by 1.32 meters and its
slanted roof is 1.7 meters at the highest point, giving you plenty of space. It comes with a
standard double mattress so you've got plenty of space to stretch out. You get a telescopic
ladder with the tent and you can access the tent from all three sides through the mesh door
or windows which also gives you great airflow. For the remainder of the tents, I’ve
included a short summary of each: The Dometic TRT120e electric rooftop tent is made
using tough PVC with two layers meaning it can handle bitterly cold environments with no trouble.
The PVC cover is water resistant with a UPF 50 protection rating. Including the ladder, this tent
weighs just 56 kilograms thanks to its frame made from lightweight aluminium alloy. Setting up
the tent is simple and fast - it uses 12 volt operation and has a wireless remote control
so you can set it up in less than one minute. The sleeping area measures 1.2 by 2 meters with a
height of 1.1 meters. With the tent you get a 50mm thick high density foam mattress that comfortably
sleeps two people. The telescopic ladder makes for easy access and the double layered mesh
windows mean you get fresh air but no midgies. The Yakima Skyrise HD rooftop tent is designed
for all four seasons and is built with a tough 600d ripstop polyester fabric that is paired
with a three thousand mm waterproof PU coating. It's designed so that rain doesn't collect and
instead simply runs off so there's no chance of the tent springing a leak. The frame is made with
lightweight aluminium and all up it only weighs 52 kilograms including the ladder. The tent measures
2.43 by 1.42 meters with a height of 1.22 meters. The included mattress is 64mm thick and
has a removable cover which makes it easy cleaning. There are mesh windows
on all sides and on the roof. You also get a two-year warranty so you know
you're buying quality that you can trust. The Dune four-wheel drive Nomad rooftop tent is
made from rugged rip-stop poly cotton canvas that is waterproof and has UPF50+ You can comfortably
fit three people inside and it's got a whopping weight capacity of 300 kilograms. It weighs 56kg
which is pretty light especially for the size. Dune’s tent measures 2 by 1.4 meters inside with
a height of 1.2 meters. When it's packed down it has a height of 300mm. It comes with a 50mm thick
high density foam mattress included. There's also some large shoe pockets that are perfect for
storing hiking boots. It's got windows on two sides and a large door at the front all with mesh
to keep the bugs out but keep you well ventilated. You'll get a two year warranty with your
purchase for peace of mind. This tent is offered at a really reasonable price of $999
to Anaconda members or $2,500 to non-members. The Dakota 1600 rooftop tent by 23Zero weighs
in at just over 64 kgs and is made with a high quality 280 gsm rip stop polycotton canvas
that's lightweight yet durable. There is a full installation kit included and it fits most popular
brands of roof racks. The sleeping area measures 2.5 by 1.5 meters and comes fitted with a 65mm
high density foam mattress with a waterproof base to protect from condensation. This rooftop tent
also features light suppression technology to keep the interior extra dark, seam sealed
throughout for added weather protection, telescopic ladder, windows on all four
sides and a mesh skylight for star gazing. Drifta’s Stockton Wildlands rooftop tent is
quick and easy to set up - under 60 seconds. It is only 160mm thick when closed which is the
lowest profile of all the tents. The roof of the tent is separate to the hard shell top so this
means there's a gap which helps enormously with condensation airflow and temperature - basically
it is a tent inside a box. The tent weighs just 57 kilograms. The sleeping area measures 2.05 meters
by 1.2 meters and it comes with a 70mm mattress. Bundutec's Murami Sport rooftop tent
is a spacious and rugged rooftop tent. It is built with a thick heavy canvas that's
waterproof. The roof is designed with the hot Australian sun in mind and works to keep
you cool even in the middle of the day. The frame is fully welded and built using tough
alloy - this means that you are free to mount equipment on the roof when the tent is closed for
example surfboards to a maximum of 70 kilograms. The weight of the tent itself is between 80 and 84
kilograms. Opening and closing the tent takes just 10 seconds. It's possible to leave your bedding
inside too which makes setting up even quicker. It measures 2.2 by 1.5 meters and the
mattress is a comfortable 80mm thick. When closed, the tent has a low profile
just 200mm meaning you don't get much wind resistance when driving and it
doesn't affect your fuel consumption. The iKamper Skycamp 2X rooftop tent or two times
rooftop tent - this hard shell tent is iKamper’s new two-person version of the Skycamp. It's
made with a durable but breathable 300 gsm polycotton canvas. It's water resistant and
will shield you from the hot Australian sun. A nice feature is how you can pick the colour
from three varieties to suit your car – black, blue or white. It takes just one minute to set up, is easy to install and will fit on any standard
crossbars. It weighs 55kg - not bad for the size thanks to the aluminium floor. The outer shell
uses fibre reinforced plastic and has two layers. The tent measures 2.18 by 1.38 meters with a
height of 1.1 meters. Included is a super high density mattress so despite only being 50mm thick,
it's really comfortable. You'll get a telescopic ladder with the tent. There are mesh windows
and doors on three sides and even a skylight. You get great ventilation and you can gaze
up at the stars at night. You can also lock the case to prevent any theft. This is the
perfect size for a couple or small family. And finally the two bonus tents. The Adventure
King's Grand Tourer Mark II aluminium rooftop tent is 100% waterproof and designed to keep
you warm in the winter and cool in the summer. The tent frame is built with strong powder-coated
aluminium which gives you a strong durable tent that's resistant to rust. Including the
ladder, the tent weighs 93.5 kilograms. The mattress measures 2.28 by 1.4 meters
which is absolutely huge. The great thing about the Adventure Kings rooftop tent is
that when it's closed, it's only 295mm high. This means there's basically no effect on
your fuel economy. You can also leave your bedding inside the tent when it's packed down
so your bed is always ready. There are mesh windows on all three sides so you can enjoy a
cool draft and included is a hanging storage pocket to keep your phone or your book or
your shoes. The mattress is 75mm thick. The James Baroud Explorer Evolution
rooftop tent is the final one on our list. This rooftop camper weighs in at just 60 kilograms
making it extremely lightweight for a hard shell tent. It's totally waterproof and even wind tested
to 120 km/h. This tent is made from high quality, double stitched aluminumized polyester fabric.
There are six fabric coatings that are anti-UV, non-perishable 100% waterproof, breathable
and reflect the sun's rays. The sleeping area is a comfortable 2 by 1.4 meters and
fitted with a high density mattress which has a removable washable cover. The rooftop
camper also features a solar powered fan to help avoid condensation a removable
rechargeable LED torch for internal lighting, a telescopic ladder and windows on all
four sides. Pricing starts from $4,350. If you've made it all the way to the end,
thanks for watching. I hope that it helps you while you're shopping for your first
or next rooftop tent. Don't forget to like the video and subscribe to my channel if
