all right so one of the most common questions we get at airstream is what's the difference between a bandy and a caraval and we happen to have two right here in the same floor plan and we thought we'd dive into a little bit of the differences so let's talk first about commonalities between bambi and caravel bambi and caravel are they're all single axle trailers they all come in four lengths 16 19 20 and here we've got 22 foot models in both the bambi and the caravel now let's dive into a little bit of the differences between bambi and caravel so let's first start with bambi so at the front of the bambi you'll see obviously looks like a traditional airstream travel trailer has the prop up window in the front that'll open up let in some ventilation here at the front of the bambi we use a 3m protective film coating in the front two panels which helps with any rock guard you know with any rock dings um you have an aluminum lp cover on the front you have a manual tongue jack here that'll differ when you go to the caraval we'll talk about that in a little bit as we move down the side here you'll see as noted we got single axle we have a steel entry step on the bambi then we move around to the back there's no bumper on the bambi though on the caravel we will add a bumper there so we'll talk a little bit once we move into the caraval so let's jump inside so here we are in the bambi 22 bambi 22 is a great floor plan it dedicates the rear end cap here to a full bathroom setup a toilet on one side shower on the other even for somebody tall like me it's plenty of shower to be able to get in and shower off after a day outside got a really nice wardrobe set up here we have a all-electric fridge both on the bambi and the caravel so this would run off of 12 volt or shore power if you're plugged in to either a generator or shore powered campsite the one of the big benefits for all electric compressor style refrigerators is that they cool down much quicker and they're a lot more efficient than a typical absorption style refrigerator so it really makes efficient use of battery usage if uh if you're boondocking this is the ocean interior so you'll note this fabric interior here you have a dinette this dinette in addition to being an eating area can also slide down and convert into a bed area as well got a dual sink on either side here cooktop and microwave here and then you'll come to the back got a really nice bed more full-size bed that fits into the wraparound front and then you've got a nice wrap around panoramic window in the front here gives a great view to wake up in in the morning we've got some rollaway wind overhead storage doors here as well the windows and the bambi are made by a company called hair h-e-h-r and they have a little bit different opening than uh than a traditional airstream window we have a crank on either side here that will open up see the ac unit here ac unit also has a heat strip in it so it can act as a heater so down to about 45 degrees or so you can use something like this people also like to use this rather than the furnace in the unit if they're at a campsite because you can use the campsite's electricity versus using your furnace so this is a great option here with the ace unit so that's the bambi now let's move into the caravel so this is a good shot here of some differences on the rear end of a bambi versus a caravel you'll notice we have a single led rear light on the back here versus two led rear lights on the back of the caraval again a little bit more additional visibility we talked about the bumper earlier while the bambi does not have a bumper we had a rear bumper on the back of the caraval which again has some additional storage in that bumper as well this particular caravel has some packages that are not available on the bambi one of those is a window awning package if you remember window awnings are nice for a couple reasons not only does it give you a little more shade inside but also helps reduce that interior temperature in a place that's hot like texas we will take anything we can get to reduce that temperature inside while you're camping so come around this side on the bambi you saw a steel entry step here you have a thule aluminum step nice little feature has a nice sense of uh you know it's very sturdy nice sense of quality to it as we move towards the front of the caraval on that unit we had a 3m adhesive protective film on the front here we go to a stainless rock guard on the front which is a nice way to keep any rock dings from your tow vehicle away on the bambi you got a manual jack on the front here you go to an electric tongue jack on the front again makes a little bit easier to take your unit on and off one additional piece to note on the bambi this is a good example of this is a hair window that we use in the bambi in here we go to an airstream made window that's made in jackson center ohio by all of our craftsmen there so let's come on the inside we'll dive into a couple more details so as you get into the caraval you'll see it's a little different feel on the inside one thing you noticed immediately and in addition to the wood color is you go to an ultra leather interior here versus a fabric interior nice little nice little difference here if you remember this window and the bambi had a dial opening here this one you can unlock and go almost up to 90 degrees to get a bunch more airflow on the inside nice nice little additional feature again you have an electric all-electric compressor style refrigerator in the caravel when you get to the galley area you see a couple differences you had a glass topped cook area in the bambi here you go to a nice metal topped three burner stove on the front nice gives a nice feel to it you also have a brownie cook hood here as well and then you have a convection microwave option here as well and the bambi you saw we had a two sink option in the caravel you go to one deep really kind of farmhouse style sink on the inside which is a really nice feature one thing to also note is overhead cabinets you saw the roll away overhead cabinet lockers where here you'll move to a sliding overhead locker here as well similar bed setup one additional piece in the caravel versus the bambi bambi you have two speakers that are connected to the stereo system when you come in here you actually add a couple more speakers you got a four speakers and a subwoofer on the inside here as well so you get uh you know you can rock that airstream with some some beats on here as well so that's a little bit into the differences between the bambi and caraval in addition uh one piece i think that's worth noting is you won't see any ac unit here it's not because the unit doesn't have an ac it's because it has a ducted ac this is the first unit and the airstream model lineup that goes to use quiet stream ducted air conditioning what does that mean for the end user it means it's quieter it also means for somebody like me that's a little bit taller i've got a little bit more headroom on the inside as well that's a really nice feature that you get moving from bambi to caravel thanks for
