all right well welcome back to exhaust ports Otto my name is Kevin and let's just get right into this you know depressing times right but no matter the other show must go on so here it is the 2020 Hyundai Santa Fe finally started getting Hyundai's to review so at least it's it's a good thing right want to do a Hyundai for a while it's a little bit about the the 2020 Hyundai Santa Fe right well let's just first of all start off with the other looks kind of a some people thought it was controversial my personally I'm okay with it I mean designs tend to grow on me after a little while I think this is a crowded market and they're trying to stand out and you know it does do a pretty decent job doing that right it's got pretty aggressive front fascia thing going on however it's a I will point out it's kind of reminds me of like the 2014 Jerry ki the Jeep Cherokee when that first came out I remember that how do you kind of that slim headlight thing going on but anyway I think the looks are fine but again you cannot you know make up your mind about that and again leave your thoughts down in the the comment section below and what you think about the looks and this vehicle in general right anyway let's talk a little bit about some of these driving dynamics shall we well some specs for you this vehicle this is the turbo model so this is like pretty much fully loaded except it doesn't have the all-wheel drive so this thing stickers for around like 38 grand that's the MSRP on this thing you can go to a dealership I'll get some incentives but for the most part MSRP this is 38 grand which you know it's pretty much right in line with like the the Honda pilots the rav4 cx-5 so you know stuff like that right that's kind of the competition and this being the turbo engine it's got 235 horsepower and 260 pounds feet of torque there is a regular four-cylinder on option and that thing produced by 185 horsepower into 174 how to be a toric okay so what you just saw there was some wheel spin and a little bit of torques here as well but anyway we'll get to that in a bit this vehicle weighs about 4,000 pounds so it is quite a bit on the heavy side however that also kind of aids in giving it that that sure-footed feeling because it has a decent amount of weight to it so I'm not like totally against that but it can't feel a tad sluggish due to that weight but you know that's not a big deal for this I think with this turbo engine it is for the most part for city driving very effortless and off the line it gives you a decent amount of a shove absolutely love the visibility for such a large vehicle I think this thing is about 188 inches long which is not like you know super hugely example longest thing but this vehicle is very spacious and I'll get to that in the interior segment but piloting this it's got big sideview mirrors so it's very easy to see out of this thing the rear windshield you know everything all about this like it's pretty much like a fishbowl and you're very easy to see out of this thing and they're weak that's what happens to India floor admit mid turn there let me just get this right off the bat dear I really love Hyundai's if you're shopping in this segment of vehicle right you're confused you don't know what to get there's a lot of competition I get it it's so hard to make a choice because every video you see out there you know I'm a reviewer they're like Oh turn around for okay best SUV in the class and then you see another one Honda Pilot oh that's the best one the Mazda and they make another video and then they call that is this the best one in the segment you know and now all of a sudden everything is the best but that's not really the case there is no best in anything what you have to understand is they're all good cars you're actually not making a bad decision by going with any one of these vehicles and this Hyundai is absolutely no exception I mean this is an excellent piece of machinery right here and you're doing yourself a huge injustice by not checking out these vehicles that I get it some of you might be turned off by the badge you might be like oh is this really as good as those vehicles let me tell you this if you're confused and you don't know where to start start with these Korean vehicles these are some of the most well-rounded vehicles that you can possibly get on the market and what do I mean by that it kind of does everything well so does that make this the best I mean you also had to put in price because you know obviously you're looking at you know normal people with normal jobs looking at these vehicles right you don't have like you know just racks to blow on these vehicles right and so um not only is this a great value proposition for what you're getting but all of the driving dynamics all that stuff for the most part is there as well so if you don't know what you want start here first this is a great kind of like basis for a test drive and then go out and try some of those other vehicles but I guarantee you though if you actually drove some of those other vehicles you would probably as you come back to this because this does everything that a normal vehicle needs to do extremely well it's quiet it's comfortable those are the two main things not a normal vehicle that a daily driver needs to do and this is doing that tremendously well I recently had a lexus NX 300h hybrid right I did a review on that if you want to check that out you can but this is quieter and more refined than that Lexus this has legitimately luxury-car levels of dignity you know going down the road essentially it has like those more premium feel when you drive this vehicle when he pilot it and that's something that you know you can hate the brand you can say what you will you can have all these like misconceptions in your head but they are not what they were like 20-30 years ago I promise you that this is a company that's done an absolute 180 and honestly for normal cars like this is kind of my default choices right here like Hyundai Kia type vehicles like I'm surprised at just how like noisy some of the competition is even some of the more premium competition can be it's really like Mazda and Hyundai they're like one of the more quieter vehicles I've noticed like yeah yeah when you go up to the highway sure a little bit of noise protrudes but like that's normal I had an LS 500 H as a test vehicle that that they had a decent amount of road noise and tire noise out of the highway speeds as well so you can't really escape that and this vehicle especially around town very nice very quiet it soaks up the bumps extremely well but here is kind of my only downfall with this particular Santa Fe like this is this turbo is not the one that I would get now show you here right now chucked it in right cuts a lot of power out because this is a very torque heavy vehicle just rips out the front end every time you turn in does that balls of course it does I mean this is a very decent amount of power to have you know about 235 horsepower 260 pounds feet of torque it's definitely not bad vehicle will run on regular fuel as well if you're interested in knowing but what you just saw there that turn in that's my issue with it this is so like very prone to being skittish and like the traction control like steps in and it just really neuters the driving experience and I get it this is the front wheel drive version so it's just like you send that type of power and it's just like it can't really cope with it well and really becomes evident when you try to make a big left-hander type turn into traffic like it just it blows the confidence that you have in this thing because otherwise it's really composed it's really nice to drive but just like that initial like when you turn and you accelerate it's not good and that's why I would just go for the regular four-cylinder because I know the time person who's gonna be buying this vehicle there are normal people who like to you know overstep their boundaries pull out in front me and do 10 miles per hour below the speed limit right that's that's who's gonna be buying this vehicle yeah I know who you are if you want to just do that if you want if you want to get in people's way just get the regular four-cylinder you're saving like so much cash you're getting better mpg switch this isn't terrible I'm getting like you know with aggressive city driving I'm getting like 20 mpg which is not the worst thing in the world but I respect that for a turbo engine and this engine itself is great it's just like the part like the way the power gets delivered that's the issue and when I turn off the traction control it still kind of kicks in you know even with the stability off and everything it's still kind of like saps out the power and it's just like too much for her to handle like Mazda does a pretty decent job of cutting up power like they do it in a refined way like it you know their turbo 4-cylinder makes a lot of power as well and they're both about the same speed I feel like in a straight line but I feel like they cut the power in a more like natural way this is just kind of very like uncontrollable if you will and that it especially becomes evident when it's kind of rainy out like it has been here then you essentially have no grip and this thing is running on some 19 inch wheels with 235 wide tires I like the width of these tires that's pretty good but they're like these kind of nonsense like hand cooked tires that's what's on these vehicles so you know if you have better tires sure like some Michelin sort of Continental might help out a little bit but I don't know I would just get the regular four-cylinder man that would pretty much solve my only real issue that I had with this vehicle in terms of driving it the regular four-cylinder yet makes like hundred eighty five horsepower one hundred and seventy five hundred seventy four pound-feet of torque that I get it that sounds like nothing especially for a four thousand pound vehicle but I'm telling you that's really gonna be the more refined driving experience the brakes in this vehicle are really is really good though I love the way Hyundai programs everything else like the steering is supernatural love it there is of course body roll body lean and the cornice is a 4,000 pound vehicle it's I like some super speed racer type car with like an aluminum carbon fiber chassis oh you gotta relax with all that it's not as you know it's not like that BMW pin-down experience you know it's not like a Porsche type of thing but it's like it's very good for what it is I'm telling you for like the normal cars this is absolutely fantastic it's again though it does it two main things I want a normal car to do quiet and comfy that's it and the balls it's there the transmission is great I love this like Hyundai developed transmission it is so perfect for just everyday driving it's very refined it'll kick down when he needed to you notice a slight bit of lag there totally like appropriate though for a vehicle like this a bit of turbo lag you know and gonna come down a few gears but that's that's about it though otherwise I really do enjoy this powertrain and yeah there is an all wheel drive version option I'm driven that perhaps that could distribute power a little bit better maybe maybe not you might want to test drive that if you really want the the turbo power which this is some good power for sure even on the highway it does provide you with a pretty effortless power obviously that initial thrust that you get from like a standstill that's gonna be where like this turbo really shines like once again the highway that like a horsepower will kind of come through but for the most part this is gonna do it for most people check out the all-wheel drive if you need need to have this turbo power maybe it might distribute power a little bit better but I still think as the 4-cylinder bro I'm telling you it's like 10 grand less than this MSRP wise and you get all-wheel drive it's like fully loaded too so that's like 29 grands it's like 38 grand I don't know man that's some substantial savings and I think savings it's what's key in this market and you're not gonna be driving like that with this I know it or not so just relax in it and just enjoy it for the comfort and the smoothness of it and enjoy that regular non turbo four-cylinder I'm assuming probably get like at least three or four mpg better as well so you're saving at the pump you're saving right off the bat India the sticker value of the vehicle as well if you go for a more mid tier four-cylinder with just front-wheel drive you're saving even more money so if you don't need that all-wheel drive don't get it just save the money get the front wheel drive four-cylinder but yeah this is definitely on my short list this is definitely one that I would heavily consider if I need it like a crossover type SUV they just nail it man they just know like Hyundai Kia they know what normal people need and they deliver now let's kind of talk about this this interior now so again they delivered on driving dynamics they also deliver on the interior for the most part they even out do some luxury brands and what in terms of what you get like but they give you a lot more standard features and stuff like that this particular one this is fully loaded so it's got everything it's got the heated cooled seats the heated steering wheel heated seats in the back as well so it's really got everything you actually need like this pretty much loaded up like a luxury car trim wood but I will say this interior I appreciate it a lot and if you're comparing this to like a Mazda the Mazda has superior like materials right like the better leather like the nicer kind of you know aluminum and wood treatments and all that stuff right so it has like that more premium feel this one it uses like the cheaper materials you know all around the dash or like cheaper plastics but one thing though this much like the Mazda it's so solid that's what I love like there's no creaks and rattles in this vehicle whatsoever I mean this particular press V class about 4,800 miles on it and still a solid S can be so the way it's put together is extremely nice I love that you kind of like touch up on everything here extremely well done very nicely built so that's what I love and this particular one yeah it does have the nicer materials like these seats though these seats they have like this Genesis g70 type of quality to it in terms of like it's like a very kind of stiff like durable leather I actually think it's real leather I'm not sure whether it is or it isn't it's really nice in terms of the durability and you might be thinking oh it's like a stiffer leather like is it gonna be comfortable yeah I've been driving around it and personally I do think it's comfortable they did a really good job of that it's so far I mean with the in general like driving dynamics of it it's a complete non fatiguing experience and that with these seats I think it's really good so they're actually decently supportive as well I think they personally did a great job but definitely check it out I'm sure some cloth options are available as well when you go down in a trim level but no I do appreciate these seats I really do think they're gonna we're extremely well very similar to like the Genesis g7 D I feel like the steering wheel I love the size of it I like the shape of it they do a great job of that as well you have some nice little buttons here I'll get to that in a bit you got the OneTouch up-and-down windows for just the the front two windows here but the rear it's like yeah she'll again it's not one touch it doesn't like keep going with it but it actually has like double paned glass we believe that I mean the license nxi had didn't you have double pane glass oh there's definitely a decent amount of quality put into this vehicle like NVH that sort of thing to really help like make it a non fatiguing experience and it's got all the nice little features that you want it's got the the memory seats of course electric seats for both the front two seats here safety features galore of course it's got all that stuff going for a lane keep assist the blind spot monitoring it's got all that stuff right here and the forward collision mitigation things got that as well as stop on its own you have the auto headlights you got the auto windshield wipers got all that stuff in this particular trim model as well you have this gauge cluster right so you know they did a pretty decent job with that I guess kind of unnecessary I kind of liked what they were doing before where they had like the physical gauge cluster I don't know if you go down and trim you might still get that but this has like the digital speedometer in the middle here and does a good job I'm it's very legible it reacts extremely well so I'm not like against it and still got like the great like you know Center like help screen thing that shows you a lot of great information it's very easy to navigate and go through you know it's definitely not bad of course you have the other fuel coolant temp gauges right here you have a physical tech comma as well so definitely not bad it's very easy to navigate aren't the best screen quality or anything like that but it's still pretty good I would say very legible no issues there and speaking of tech that's another thing that Hyundai Kia just kills it with it is so easy to understand and utilize all the tech that they put in here like there is legitimately like a luxury car level of tech in here but it's so digestible to normal people like I'm never like intimidated by using the tech in this vehicle and that's just a great thing because a lot of these vehicles get into luxury cars in particular and they are so bougie they're so strange and foreign to use I mean this is just it comes natural you don't need anybody to teach you any of this stuff like this infotainment they haven't changed it Granta it does look a tad bit cheap where it's just snuck up like you're like a tablet however you know it does kind of look like a toy up here but you gotta admit though the tech does work extremely well very easy to connect your phone access all the media and all that good stuff the nav the physical tuning knobs volume knobs love it and he has some great controls on the steering wheel as well just very easy just very like common-sense stuff I feel like their economics are like just through the roof I mean they've kind of overtaken Toyota in that in that aspect I feel like Toyota is kind of unnatural to use now I feel like these still very natural everything comes to you very easily climate control totally separated from the screen always love to see that very simple to use all your heated and cooled seat functions heated steering wheel functions very easy to access right here they just don't screw the simple stuff up and I love that you even have a just regular kind of gear selection thing here no like strange things like electric knobs and stuff like that none of that very simply use your have your drive mode selection here which I just live this thing and normal I don't want to soon be any more aggressive than it already is so that's the mode I use grin I didn't really notice a huge difference in sport mode and stuff like then this particular vehicle but anyway you have like cameras galore they did great cam backup camera in this vehicle I mean I'm not usually like a huge advocate I mean I'm just like you know just use the mirrors to park your car but I have to admit the add the backup cameras and stuff like that very good in this vehicle electric parking brake does have the auto stop start its granted it's not super intrusive I do still turn it off regardless you do have to always hit that button and do that however very good amount of storage space you do have a wireless charger here granted it's not super fast but I think they've sped it up from older models but it's still kind of slow it's it's okay though at least it's a place to put your phone and get some juice out of it so not too bad USB stuff like that apple carplay Android auto it's got all that stuff great amount of storage space as a whole though center armrest glovebox all good stuff there infiniti audio system it's not gonna blow you away but it's a good system like you tweak with it you tweak the base the trouble it's pretty good I don't mind it but just keep in mind I like the greatest thing in the world but it's good it's a good audio system so I do like that panoramic sunroof very baller I have to admit so far no creaks and rattles coming from that but yeah nice and big piece of glass though so yeah be kind of wary about that but um yeah it doesn't look pretty good when it's open though one thing that's kind of strange though is this headlining material it reminds me of like athletic apparel like some sweatpants type of thing going on like it's very I've never seen a pattern like this before it kind of threw me off a little bit I very strange but um perhaps you can change that maybe you can get in black or something like that I wouldn't how do I know it's kind of strange but I guess when you're driving a car you're looking forward right now looking up here so is what it is now let's talk about that space in the rear though tremendous amount of space this is not like the largest vehicle on the planet like it's only a hundred and eighty eight inches long but dude this thing does a better job than most like mid-size luxury cars in terms of like rear leg space I'm 5 foot 11 and grand I do sit kind of close to the wheel I mean I don't have like my and balls you know sitting on top of the gauge cluster but like you know I I do sit rather close as steering wheel but I do have plenty of space to sit behind myself that's not an issue whatsoever Headroom not not an issue at all and again you still have the great leather quality you have some peasant blockers but in this case this car it doesn't have that same level of swagger as a luxury car so this would be kind of like baby sun blockers so still a very nice thing to have you if you have a child back there I mean obviously had plenty of space to put it like a child seat if you needed to but yeah that's a great little thing for liking on babies and stuff like that if you have to have that a manual sunshade thing I don't like manually put it up saw like electric or anything like that but you do have heated seats back there it's right next to the other the window switch so that's pretty good it's a very well-appointed cabin space I really do appreciate it a lot you can't fold down the seats so you can get a lot of space back there it's a electronically folded down so there's a button in the trunk that's what you had to press and it'll automatically fold down the seats but it won't like automatically bring the seats back up I felt like that would be a good touch because you know speaking of the trunk the trunk is massive even with the seats up it's tremendous and this is not a three row this is a two row and that's kind of why there's so much space in this vehicle but I'm just saying though I think this actually might be one of the larger vehicles in the class like the rav4 wasn't sighs but uh this has about the same amount of trunk space as a rav4 but there's more interior leg space in the rear than a rav4 so this is definitely one of the larger more practical vehicles I feel like very spacious huge trunk love it once you do sit in the rear seats though you can like recline those seats and it's like a legit recline it's not like a slight obtuse angle it's like you can really like lean back over there and just fall out so I do love that as well I really do like Mazdas but like I feel like as a value proposition if you're not even a value proposition I mean it's just a great vehicle like these Hyundai's I really like him and if you're wondering like what's the key difference between like Hyundai and Kia Hyundai's are typically like the quieter more comfortable they try to be a little bit more luxury than kia kia is like the more like sporty type of vehicle this would technically be like the Sorento equivalent however this got refreshed in 2019 so the Sorento is still kind of like the old-school body but I still did love that Sorento and it comes with a v6 as well there is no v6 with this which is a little bit unfortunate but this turbo for you'd be surprised actually it has like a growl to it I'm assuming it's pumped in through the audio though let the sound of the engine so it is what it is but I'm just saying though it does sound pretty decent however I still maintain Hyundai's are best you know kind of in they're like mid tier trims and then get that regular four-cylinder I'm telling you it's gonna be like the best value I feel like in the class it's so comfy it's so quiet that's one of the things I absolutely love and that's what makes it a non fatiguing experience you can put miles and miles on this thing it's tremendous and again if you're still doubting Hyundai's you really don't have to there's really no need to because they give you a decade long warranty like there's no need to have like that nonsense like mentality about the brand I mean they're making great cars great tech and a nice driving experience for a an excellent price point I feel it they always undercut the competition they give you a quality vehicle so there you go that's kind of my thoughts on the the new 2020 Santa Fe just only van didn't like really was just the way it peels out on a corner the way it kind of peels out like there is there's not a lot of grip in the rain but otherwise it's it's great again get the regular four and you'll be happy with it but if
