2019/07/31 - Modern: Tuning Trinket Amulet

okay here we go again with some modern this time around we are trying to try to update amulet for for the current crazy modern meta game and I I do believe that currently the best thing to be doing it's very it's very likely just plain trinket beige this is the car that helps enact your game plan the quickest it finds relevant interaction cards against the top tier the X namely huhgak and it's just overall the one that gives you the most consistency are doing the amulet thing one thing that's very important in the whole bag matchup is the importance of the card amulet a bigger this call has become even more more important that much I've done in probably most other matchups ever and that is because of the difference between playing a Titan and attacking and trading with a ho-bag versus Trump attacking into a huhgak because you want to get a couple ends it's pretty massive because it's very easily the difference between dying on the crack back or surviving and getting yet another turn so I do think that this is probably the best list to be playing right now or something similar to this I think the mana base is pretty much stock at this point I want every single one of these lands I do want to have access to both water for sure and the only car that I would consider is Duke's was playing Grey sir over coalition relic I do understand the I do understand the idea in the gray sir it's it's a way to help you get to three mana and turn to so we can play your trinket mage and you know set up for to either normal script or roughly curse cage and turn to personally I think that gray sir is just terrible and I said that multiple times and I think coalition relic is great so I'm even more incentivized to play in this card then the other thing that that Dirks was playing is he was playing one extra spell pierce and one extra force a bigger and in its place I have access to piping needle and no light ferox this is mostly because of the presence of John black Winx like it's very very popular online right now and Fair Oaks is just better than bay loss in that matchup and then piping needle is a great in the blue-white matchup and it has some added value in some some other matchups as well so this is probably the weakest guard in the sideboard I will see whether it's worth it or not but yeah let's just join Lee modernly you trinket field join that's right yeah check it feel alright sweet so we should be good again this is the list and yes now me so far has felt very good on the last stream I played a two trinket majors two relics I'm gonna try out they look set up with the third drink image and see whether I like it or not okay so what do we got here turn it on scout so we're about one bouncing underway and we have a ton of good draws I think I'm gonna risk this one this could backfire pretty easily we don't find the line but it's otherwise a very strong hammer I put a Mulligan's to five so they're probably like in Toronto or something like that trolland dredge or maybe they're just maybe just have some very bad drawers so basically that is my opponent isn't something like gender whatever and they they like kill my Scout on turn 1 or something because that would give me one more turn to decide what to do in terms of my Alliance sequencing because if I do manage to find an amulet their names Scout if we do manage to find an amulet then of course holding the celestial sanctuary is gonna be significantly better but on the other hand if I find something like steering's I'm going to need to have I'm gonna need the sanctuary to to be my green source all right so we're in a very awkward spot now I think I'm gonna play the sanctuary because the trinket page is my way to find amulet but we found like almost an amulet which is kind of weird we're just we're just very unlucky that's that's the story right here just very unlucky how you doing card work on trips coprolite gorge oh this is dredge alright with no dredger ah ha I think I have enough time that I can take one turn off nice beautifully beautifully rewarded by by some tykes play get my amulet and that were percent in a turn for Titan it might be a little bit counterintuitive right but I think I firmly believe that that was a correct light just like my opponent is on a very slow draw it's playing again they're playing a deck that we are very very favorable against and I think that we can very safely take one turn off to like basically wager are our options if we find an amulet or any anti plan would have gotten us there and we got beautiful rewarded by it and even if we draw a second bounce and we can still cast the trick image we would have still been able to cast a trick image with any bounce line so if that were the case we would have still been in the same spot so oh is this like the again that like hybrid version of the deck like who like dredge I don't think this version of the deck is very good I feel like it is just the worst it's just a worse hook neck yeah it's the worst hook exact and it's a worst stretch deck Foothills brass cave and we just win so they will get rewarded or so they say garrison stronghold yeah this is actually this is actually lethal and note that if I had to play the Silesia sanctuary and my end of turn my opponent would have actually had a shot like they had a ton of stuff coming back next turn because the gas was bringing back the amalgam maybe they get a big getting her back in play and because I took that turn off in order to set up a potential better and potentially better turn for I ended up winning the game that I might have I might have lost if I have played in a different way so that is that is an interesting lesson it's just an interesting situation right there what is the price for a league so gamer guy Gregory it would be twelve i I do the national leagues for the very very low price of $10 take this out ballista out do I want to hedge do I want to hedge against white lay line hmm don't wanna head you against while a lion and I am I am marker so here I get to choose like whether I want to bring in peers or pass I don't think I want to bring in both but I am more afraid of my my slots to to fit path to exile instead of swellview's or negate it does make our side Bourdain slightly more awkward but I think it's fine I'm gonna keep this end going to keep this hand and be moderate moderately happy about it because I'm gonna leave on scout on turn 1 and if it get answered if it gets answered I might be in trouble if I don't manage to find the balance it would be much better if this were like a basic force or something because my my gemstone my counters are gonna be quite texts this game supplier again creepy and chill you got it oof does that change anything so vasila in my hand wow that's so gritty of my opponent they could have answered either a Titan or they could have answered either a Titan or one of my amulets and I didn't crazy alright so that that is they attack with the supplier I'm gonna block with the plant so I don't kill it sweet one two one two three four play this one this is this is just game over yeah when I just concedes all right slowly it slowly start feel doing good work here well again that was how can I put this um I was going to win that game anyway right Weatherfield was there or not it was Bob what won the game he wasn't filled because bogged they made it so my opponent didn't have any outs so with the tightened trigger if instead of field plus if instead of field plus Connie I would have gone like colony plus plus Oh Larry West I would have won the game anyway right so it's not that field won the game field put the game out of reach so yeah it's not that it is not that it won me a game that I wasn't winning otherwise it made sure that I can't lose a game that I might have been able to lose otherwise so there's there's there's a difference there didn't provide a little interest yeah but we were beating removal on Titan I guess it did but if I wasn't getting field then I was going to be getting delayed West right so then I already insured against Titan against removal on Titan maybe that make sense salsa 1 2 a name giant here and then we're going to steering's hopefully into any any land gets me there at this point and I think like sandbag the amulet here I don't know if my opponents playing engineered explosives I have effectively infinite man an extern so I can I mean there's no there's no reason for me to play into engineer explosives or blast zone opponent draws a card it's probably not gonna get them there where for bridge is all that my opponent can realistically do and that's also not enough versa here is just not enough it's just not good enough I don't think we're saying to chalice you got an Ursa it's only for mana grabs diverse gauge doesn't do anything well I guess they could have had a doctor sword here and that would have given them infinite life I might as well play play properly here and make the Titan encounter able to and to bounce this one summoner's fact primeval type encounter will take so i can express this on CEO to blow all of these guys up and i can do this after blockers because my opponent right now has access to to mana they can suck the bubble sack the gauge and again some life so can I force the chump with Ursa that is basically what my question is here I could get a second Titan now would be very lethal I guess so yeah that's probably correct yeah sure let's do that instead that sounds like a good that sounds like a better line I was thinking of like if there's a way I can like blow up my opponents board in response to like after they declare blockers but I I do agree that this is just a better line just to double tighten them so now we're gonna do yeah my part just can see where we're gonna do the very simplest garrison the pseudo-code be stronghold swing for a lot you could have had for certain occasion if they had had them basically yeah it's gonna it's gonna get saved into into a pod but you know I always I always liked it better when I'm able to you know when the person that donated is able to see live on stream it's like a mixture between finale to find the Guardian it's a mixture between Ottoman is obviously between amulet and and Sahelian combo should definitely be interesting should definitely be expose you so I can blow up the chalice and I can set up my following Titan and we're gonna gain lights I guess I went about the other two us probably gonna double block on the small primetime or just jump now the chalice that doesn't change doesn't change anything for us like we were going to blow up the chalice with explosive so a Great Creator I think it's the only way that my opponent can win here they need to a Great Creator into they didn't they need to great greater interest and bridge casterbridge and the creator looks the explosives so I don't have access to I don't have access to my further I guess it made sense why my opponent like it could have been a good play but then my opponent made a play that didn't make sense so it was it was kind of weird in that sense like after thinking about it I'm like okay so my opponent play makes sense and they might want to go ahead and they make it play that basically notifies their previous play and makes it that now weird man that that thought not taking my a Sousa was was pretty sweet pretty good for them yeah I guess I made a mistake that turn I should have played out the tribe scout because because it prevents my opponent from using that turn to play the card like it basically forces my opponent to crack the blast zone which also puts them behind one one land so yeah i i also have another scout so I don't really care the first one dies yeah so I guess I did make a mistake right there that that was that was definitely a mistake like forcing the blast oh and activation seems like the way that I that I make things less bad for me like the blast on activation it has actually very real downside for my opponent whereas I just gave them a free turn to do whatever they wanted to do and was punished my opponent snapped tapped five mana and then did nothing I assumed that they lost connection or something that is kind of the only thing that would make sense here because they like they snap page five oh yeah I I don't know what's going on we should have some like waiting music why are you still playing am I missing something well my opponent has made some weird place like they might make some other weird play like I don't know or I guess they just lost connection to the game right here that Plus on the amulet just why why would they plus on the other even plus you know so nothing would have been better again if my opponent had played perfectly so far I would have probably just conceded but they have not so I am basically giving them the it's not the benefit of the benefit of the doubt is like everything covered at this point I guess that the way that we would die is if my opponent is effectively playing a bunch of extra turn cards and then they just like play äôt Queller then they and tab from play get extra turns on top play extra stars and top get extra turns that would be like the only way that I would have seen myself loose in that game doesn't seem likely though they feel they're prudent to not be a winner current situation so it's nice that it gives you an a different angle of attack like if I hadn't got a feel of the debt there I would have probably maybe gotten walking ballista and set up an uncountable massive ballista for the following turn so it's just like it gives you a different angle of attack which is nice oddly enough field of the Dead has been giving me significantly better against a drasi which is one of the matchups where you want to find a 4-6 6 so significantly better against drasi and significantly where against John and those are their two go with that the thing is that I can see their burn to be a positive match up well I consider John an addressee III can see their address it ought to be a very good match of for us but I guess either John to be a even ish match up and so no ha for no hyperox definitely helps their since it brawls we turbo is quite effectively quite a queen main deck now I don't think we're there I don't think so that is also gonna force your Liliana your opponent to either jump with the charmolue if in order to - Iliad on the following turn or you're going to just kill the Lada and the forks is very likely to still be bigger than they traveler that your opponent has in play so that is that is the big big the big big deal for Nova Turks also hex proof extra face yeah enchants we saw fighting you for a second decade yeah you can do that Vidal is definitely like beam of the funkiest card sigh board alongside field of the Dead like if I'm not playing fair ox I would be playing bailiff like those would would be the best option for me now when it comes to fighting meal this is a one-off that we can fine with trinket match it could it is sick like for example we play guys like the orcid I can stuff that means that trinket mage is effectively an answer to the factor sword combo so that is very nice your opponent cannot go infinite with Ursa it stops did they collected company Dex like they drew it this year combo style Dex it prevents you from getting combo doubt so that is also very nice it stops I guess it it stops creature brand and the stupid deck the glass cannon deck neo brand you just like a needle razor friend and you're doing pretty well for yourself unless they answer it of course so it has like a lot of applications in the tier two and less Dex basically also very good like turning trinket machine to an answer to a place Walker from grew white it's it's also a very big deal so it has a lot of very narrow random applications so that's why I really like it with the addition of the third drink image now field of the Dead I still have no idea what to make of this guard we had a couple of situations where it was pretty good today so I'm definitely down to continue the testing process but I'm still not 100% sold I have only found one situation so far in six leaks I think six or eight leaks I can remember exactly and in all of those matches I only found myself in one or maybe two situations where it won me a game that it wouldn't have that I wouldn't have won any other way right so it was it was like a game waiting card only in one situation however it's nice that it closes the door in your bunch of situations where it maybe you like play Titan then you stabilize in your language my opponent has this and this then I am going to lose and feel of that says no your opponents just dead they have no outs so that is that is what I have found in in my testing so far which is nice now is it worth an entire cyber slot I don't know maybe it is it's definitely better than all the lands that I would have here except for cavern cavern is the only land that I would consider how many decide worth over this and I think that any matchups where you want cavern it's better than field of the Dead and I don't think that's particularly close like I think the cavern is very very very much better than field against blue-white just being able to resolve your Titans and make unconsciousness is exactly what your game plan is all about so field of the Dead is basically more flexible in that it does job it does a good job against blue white it does a good job against maybe John even though it's not insane there again it just closes the door against John it's not doing much more than that and that's a good job against humans and whole gag it just sets up situations where you you just you just close the door with field of the dead same thing against each one so it's way more flexible like the field that comes in again against way more decks then the second cavern would be however against the decks where you would want the second cavern the second cavern is significantly worse than the field and that would be Crixus shadow any control that basically didactic place counter spells including in spirits and stuff like that do you - you know like matchup percentages like feel those that comes in way more than cavern so I think I'm gonna be a running field of the data for now but I am ready to like make this switch basically if you if you know what I'm saying so basically in short for now I will play this card because it's more useful in more matchups but it's definitely a flex lot I guess it's not a showing 100% coming in like cancer percent play it into into the into the sideboard big monkey we literally just 505 odd so if you were bad at the deck then the deck is garbage if you know what you're doing deck is great so that's basically that's basically my thoughts on amulet if you're not good at it well if you're a pro then you're gonna be doing just fine my friend gonna be doing just fine it is just I think this is what I would be playing I will be plain is at least very very similar to this maybe I would switch this relic for something else but that would be about the only thing that I would change everything else has felt very good and the sideboard as I just said these are the Flex slots so everything else you probably want to keep in I mean negates peltier so you can you can switch those around but yeah but otherwise in terms of like which cards I want I think a force of vigor is looking very good in the current meta game so yeah that's it I'm the new catcher family the family was merfolk well I am then you get you a family a family if if I'm really worried I'll so you'll have to you have to look something else to me okay so and I'm the one that streams what's this X but natural sorrow fantasy girl sits on the next ah that's that's a question that I would take me way too long to answer and I am to get going because I have some stuff to do but let's make it short you are good against blue white you're good against diverse attacks you're good against they burn and like random aggro decks you are even against John you're even against mid-range edex like that oh you're also good against address each one in the current modern meta your god against in fact you're bad against neo brand and all of those all in combo decks and that kind of stuff but I guess you're likely you're a slight dog against huh Gak but we beat huh Gak during this league without much of an issue so you you you're definitely you're definitely doing doing good I'm like asking this is how after house or hugging match up and how do we approach it I mean it is the most important card in the matchup because you want to make sure that your prime time is either trading with a whole GAC or making the whole act champ block and you want to that's why you're playing drink image and you want to prevent your opponent for doing this stuff something that we didn't do today that you want to do is you want to play around you're gonna play on your opponent's potential force of a guess that we go to god by first of you we won the game anyway but it was it was kind of a blow at one of my opponent first forced both of our term Oh tripped and an amulet so yeah as long as we draw that's all that matters we do beat wrong i I don't think that we are advantage against Ron both were slightly slightly advantaged there is likely advantages against Green Tron and we are an under it we're a very big favorite against and receipt Ron and then we are even ish against Mona blue Tron it depends on whether you draw this card or not basically well we did we do Tron or not so as with pink and purple s7 kill your however this
