this for those big furry gets Gonzaga on the board [Applause] a really great pass considering where hot Schindler was he was underneath the backboard didn't have a lot of options clawing out a bounce and his steel here comes a bell for Gonzaga there's a millisecond and he can't finish in transition out of bounds it's a Gonzaga basketball Tennessee Thompson's last Sunday when they hammered Texas A&M Corpus Christi miss Hans recovers and the Schofield Michigan poetry and hustling for the loose ball is pal Alexander woods from stage Randy's knocking that shot down the suit he's already made more three quarters this season than he did all of last year the reigning SEC Player of the Year his stats are going to be even better at the end of this year than they are now and they're already better than they were when he took home an honor I mean he is an individual that has come in to Knoxville Tennessee and continued to improve every single year valid Admiral Schofield that Williams now 6 for 12 from three and the only player of the SEC was averaging over 20 points he won his plus/minus he has the best on the entire team at plus 25 in this 26 per game he's a difference maker deep hospital with felt the loss against Tennessee remember he spent most most of overtime went to although time on the bench watching or a kiss bird on the drive and he missed the shot inside Brent Williams plays Tennessee looks to push he'll look the truce of in the game early appearance for the Gonzaga big the freshman from Serbia each pods the pull-up and if he's given you some offense that makes it awfully difficult to defend Tennessee very good at the defensive end very strong very physically hard multiple positions and then when you start getting some offensive production out of him that opens up everything for the big drop and Patricia lays it in [Applause] the exam is a very good outside from bikini team but they do a lot of their damage obviously in the paint Tennessee knows that they're trying to collapse and forced him to shoot pumpkins outside of the paint inside the three-point one and Brent Williams now was seven he's missed all too easy one passes reverse fidget and line it up really hot she buried a poem and he paused the rebound for the balls just the start the Rick Barnes wanted to see from his team [Applause] getting it done at bold venture my scorpions attacks I see boy the rebound Gonzaga looking arrived Josh Perkins open in North Val quarter three long rebound trapped down by Perkins Williams the rebound for the ball maybe he got away with his death an ounce player by Gonzaga hotcha Maura great [Applause] but Lily supplies that grant Williams was in position to put a hand up and he didn't instead he decided to duck underneath as Hatcher Mora went up [Applause] [Music] [Applause] picked out two paws and a 3/8 poms just his third three of the season and Tennessee is up nine [Music] Tom's already with seven points the averages for a game Laurie kiss first is deep there's the Zags often start to pick up a little bit but the problem is right now there's it's not getting stopped there they're allowing Tennessee to do whatever they want at their offensive end of the floor couple of three is now for kiss burg that was his way inside too strong he just ducks in and buried Norvel in the pace that foul off the ball is called against Alexander of Tennessee the reigning SEC champs the Tennessee Volunteers they said this year there they don't have it in their mind that now they're the hunt seed they still consider themselves the hunters they're hunting down number one right now Jerry Colangelo classic Tennessee has made five of their last seven from the field and the number seven volunteers leading number one Gonzaga 19 to 11 these are the remaining unbeaten in college basketball we have two of them here today Sean had feed it because you gotta match their toughness you got to match their level of intensity their strength down low on the hook through the post otherwise you got to start bringing doubles and that's when you leave shooters wide open Jeremy Jones checks in for Gonzaga so does Greg foster jr. has eight pawns on the glass for Tennessee he's going to be an absolute star at Tennessee you see what he's capable of doing in Flash's right now as it becomes more and more consistent it's going to be scarcely there is ponds and the rebound Brent Williams any offensive glass Hans bethe wet and Patricia tracks it down to his ass being about Brent Williams - when you watch him he rebounds out of his area he doesn't just get the rebounds little right in front of him like that last offensive board he came out of nowhere together Tamura underneath okapi from Josh Perkins love that post up from hot cameras because that's exactly what Tennessee's been doing to them Jordan bone clear by Jeremy Jones a transfer for ice perkins attacks Josh Perkins the rebound Rainn Williams again for tennis is qualit really not lose all that break Renaissance I get one pass back to basket on that position take the turn scheppers football moves at the scene from tennessee they're getting done reversal actually setting multiple streams washington Zagat's of defender how much does Tennessee's defense have to do with disrupting Gonzaga softens a lot but also a little bit of it is impatient the trailing behind in the game right now haven't seen a lot of this week a lot of that this year with his ax I mean they had a couple of tough games I got off to a slow start against Creighton man of win at the buzzer against Washington nice pass John Perkins and Phillip petrucha to the line for Gonzaga Phillip intrusive at the line the freshman 82% so far the young season foul was on grant Williams's first show to his defense his ability to be active around the rim double figures already five games for the true soup this year [Music] to see by spin sucks because these screens are looking at the defendant jaylen Johnson in for the ball so is Derrick Walker shot clock inside 10 John Fulkerson shot and a foul going for the rebound there's Tennessee goes over the back Steve how you want to play walk now against the number one team in the country in Tennessee you got to get through illegal screen offensive foul out top to truces called for his first [Applause] second on Gonzaga and also this lineup for Gonzaga Sean Josh Perkins Andrew he had two more on the bench right there so it's sufficiently battling the second teams for both teams at this portion of the game Reyna Flores he's got to be cold as we'll stay field the best focus in the offense like he has the advantage and just playing with great confidence mattress ad makes it a three-point game both go sit on the left hand gets the roll over he says I don't need to bang India to finish I'm just going to shoot over the top of you is past the midway point of this first half as Tennessee is led from the outset and a pretty reverse by brand he for his first points he really struggled against Washington whether it was the five turnovers it seems a little field goal percentage and he just he wasn't himself we chant for a kiss per call to the crown brandy Klark the transfer from San Jose State was all that brandy Klark potentially could be your favorite to be the Conference Player of the Year this young college basketball season that's how good he is two more players 452 at about that level - and maybe the jaw does Perkins the pull-up brewing hot jhamora was seven and gonzaga from trailing by as many as nine already as within long they can score in bunches consumer at Claire's and now Gonzaga looking for their first lead [Applause] and a travel called on quarry kiss / Peeta doubt that or Mike I got push one of the two these two coaches mark Furyk barns go back a long way with one another [Applause] to step between two of them is Alexander has its fifth like walk [Music] leave it off before the slabs is it the way they've played early you can understand water hiss pert way [Music] [Applause] Alexander for Tennessee Tennessee last year 26 win through taking the second round of the NCAA tournament available Chicago's black to stare Lana Clark and Alexander called for the foul I'm pretty clean up top panics data Brandon Clark for a team that shoot free-throws well at Gonzaga as a club 76% but when today arrived they take it back Patricia fitness the Roseville Gonzaga just once before the line is Clark this boat just a 61% free-throw shooter here's the line down instruction a game against Duke - I'm proud of it because the detail have bought into building the cokes and it starts with the president Brian Delia but I will say that [Music] and it's fun to be around young people when you get to be my hands so I'm enjoying this quite a bit first lead of the game for Gonzaga after the slam from Rui Hani mourra and they go to the 2-3 zone so they change up the defense to the man they were getting sized up a little bit not getting the matchups at mark you wanted but they gave up a wide-open three on the outside jordan bone gives tennessee the lead again and what do you think of this game well one of the things that was pretty evident looking at the Tennessee players their men yeah these guys they're not young kids come here to play basketball and so you know as competitive as Mark few schemes always are this combination here is a terrific game and it's colorful and probably liked on USA basketball in the n-c-double-a now of all of a sudden tons of maybe some of the things that have gone on publicly in the last year seemingly become more important what is the role of USA basketball in the NBA to the NCAA in that triangle of relationship well first of all you know it's all one family in my opinion and everyone should be and I believe our kind of working together as best they can and I do agree with something that Coach Gates said that yes there are issues but it's more of a blip than it is like an overriding cancer in college basketball I don't buy that either there's too many good people involved in every level and I just believe in the game and believe in the people in it you couldn't go to jail this game for a long long time you didn't so much this game of basketball why is it important for you to stay involved and keep giving you know when you're you're blessed with maybe a little bit of a baby and then a passage for something like I have in my lifetime I owe everything to the gates in the genitive in chorus you have nothing but great news buck for good binder mark you know them both personally and they've done a great job for the game and their particular programs and in for college basketball as a whole Jerry Colangelo with us here the inaugural Air Force Majeure Jerry Colangelo classic the top news tickers ordering in Phoenix home of the Phoenix Suns that of course the impact that you've had on this community as well but where the game is the NCAA and Jerry yes we ridiculous I like the game I do a look to the category I like to see the game speeded up I believe it's poetry in motion I believe in fluidity of the games and I'm not a guy who like slow down in any fools really prevent that from happening but I think the game was ment to be played it with a particular Flair you give it a shot I've been working out a lot and I there's no chance oh my god even in my heyday I couldn't be able to do stop him from foe no that's why is the SEC rating Conference Player of the Year there is the favorite again this year and that's the thing about these both these programs he mentioned is Barnes in particular coach Barnes does this without the the Flair of the one and done and it's truly remarkable piece coaches is the developmental process of the game and that's a part of the game that should become more more you know the development of the individual player that just says it says it all in many college libraries now I have international players big impact big impact and just look at these raffia London I've got it that's your guys jaylen Johnson missing accrues yet the Gonzaga credit for coming back they could have been very pretty early here in this game the way Tennessee was shooting the puck confidently big games like this are on our game I'm so often now you don't have this on be small end of the year in terms of the tournament its how better to be prepared than in playing patent caliber talent during the person season shot clock winding down Rui Hachi Maura senior team that's the same shot he made over Washington you cannot allow him to set a screen just step right into the free-throw line and line it up once automatic what do you think in his game Jerry don't like him he's really developed you know over the last few years this games come a long way so fun to watch both these teams are the way they're getting after it here the first half as John left us in the block shot next to that Grand Canyon Game two of our doubleheader here at the Jerry Colangelo classic [Applause] how much you looking forward to game two I am it would be untouched a great statement and for our program if we were successful because it agrees we talked about [Applause] for Gonzaga Cory Kistler great benefit Johnson when did it finally hit you it is really not until we made that run to the national championship it was during that final four run who had great leaders before him but I necessarily didn't see all the leadership that they showed during that period of time and since then I've tried to shoulder the load and be the kind of bony liver that the Gonzaga program demands battle called against Gonzaga so does it have any significance to you and he goes of course John Stockton was instrumental in my continued development as a basketball player his game and his place in this sport in particular on an assist list matters he goes but really what it tells me is I've got some really good teammates around me and he has over the course of his career the Gonzaga scored six straight opened up a six point lead after trailing by nine early in this game the offensive foul on Jeremy Jones at Gonzaga kick that out you got a jump stop and can't leave your feet next to his job sliding over in the position I don't know what I'm more excited about this game and how well it's been played and Gonzaga is their toughness their resiliency to respond from that early in fact at halftime it's literally Seth and Jane well alone in the studio and we get to him a Jerry Colangelo well you do and so shows bill freedom saying right here the coach gronic dumbest year they showed everybody last night at the boxing match they had triple age we should have one of the celebrity cams going around this building be Tracy Morgan was there last night have done is in his allowed Gonzaga transition you know Tennessee could set up their defense and really limit the transition lips for Gonzaga now in the latter stages of this first half his actual rebounding a little bit better just facing the floor they're forcing Tennessee to start having a full offensive is event they've changed the last ballots down on Clark so we still as one they've given a firs to Josh Burkman sport Tennessee [Applause] [Music] [Applause] Tennessee inches down trouble as well as well scope out has to Kyle Alexander has to be pawns has to and fauns played very well to start this mission this grand Royal to rebound for Tennessee inside the final two minutes of his opening some unexpected offense from econ's help get Tennessee going and they've spotted a little bit since look to greet the minds of former teammate of mine who were the best in basketball that skill developed and they worked on reviewing the game we felt like that really helped kind of boom to the officers have broader getting to Tennessee Perkins weaving his way in for Chris and clearness the tennis even a foul and that's to on Perkins [Applause] [Music] Tilly as well and John Coulter said now three for three of the line and Tennessee a little bit short-handed as well still without lamonta Turner who's been bothered by that shoulder issue which is blatant since really surgery after last season [Music] about it what I loved was seeing leadership from Williams as well as Scofield Zack tomorrow second foul on Brandon Clark and free throws for Tennessee counties for the Zags late here in the first this has six rebounds already balloons [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] one more company one more for grant Williams as Gonzaga clinging to a two-point lead no junior in college basketball has attempted more free throws than Greg Williams who knocks bold down and it's a one-point game [Applause] we're hatching more at 14 points and they all scores here in the first half red cluster jr. handling point guard duties with Perkins on the bench and now is owned from sassy tough shot for oxymora and now williams clears and tennessee can just about play for the final shot of the half and try to get the lead going into the locker Hennessey is gone over four and half minutes without a field goal yet have a chance to take the lead here Williams goes to track it down off the deflection five to shoot for the Vols tuck 3-over kiss burn that's a - they'll check it as time runs out in the first half and Jordan bout it gives Tennessee the lead at the half and a late huge bucket for the volunteers they're going to review it to see if it is a 2 or a 3 as Jordan bound in the pull-up off the dribble and regardless if it's a two or three Tennessee will have the lead at the half let's send it over to Sean Farnham coach disappointing way to end the half for you having that shot go down talk about what you've seen so far from your team we got the slow start and I thought we did a nice job of battling back we've started taking shots on our terms and getting the ball to the right spot actually started rebounding the ball they're really pounding us on the glass early one of the things you talked about was the toughness of Tennessee Brandt Williams Admirals go fill a couple times being a little ducking to get to deep post position how do you prevent them from getting to that spot got to do your work early we talked about it all week do your work earlier they're good they're big they're strong and they're very committed to throwing it in there we just got a your work early all right coach best of luck in the same happen Roxie all right Sean so Tennessee closes out the first half on a 7 nothing run and a one-point lead on number one Gonzaga at the half of the Jerry Colangelo classic now to the studio you talked about at the top of the show really have stepped up grant Williams was the reigning Player of the Year in the SEC and he played like it in the first half and he controlled this game look at how his position he sets up again I'm not sure if he did that in halftime but he was all everything for the volunteers and meanwhile a player who didn't score maybe had the largest impact in the first half for the Gonzaga Bulldogs and that's Josh perfect the artist as I was falling for the remainder of his career the final couple times that he plays for example eyes and I'm on the ball he's always gonna be the artist six assists zero turnovers he's done an incredible job facilitating and that's the unselfishness you want elite level offense in college basketball how these numbers 83% assists to made field goal rate for Tennessee in the first half 62% assists to made field goal rate for the Gonzaga Bulldogs they are sharing the ball and making their teammates better that's why we have such a great game first-half stat presented by the Basketball Hall of Fame and his inaugural Jerry Colangelo classic in Phoenix home of the Phoenix Suns top stick resort arena that's in a one-point lead Talking Stick sports hurry right by the way you got a Talking Stick resort yeah Talking Stick get the resort in it and saw Hillary - yeah good work on the first count so yes it did yes Gonzaga reclaims the lead with Brandon Clark good execution something early in the paint raining spark establishing his presence has not walked a shot to this game and he's one of the elite level shot blockers in country as his three and a half to get speaking of shot blockers for Tennessee Kyle Alexander on the offensive end his first points inside if rain acquired who got on to a slow start he has started to assert himself early in the second half did a couple of packs I mean finished his nights don't get me wrong he was a contestant shot from two feet away but threading that pass right down the seam by Josh Perkins Tennessee with 12 seven from eight pods an unexpected augmentin source for the Vols in this game he's 610 Jenkins averaging over eight assists a game which is second in the country coming back he's already got eight deep three on the way that little Schofield the offensive rebound translated slack by clock gets up scoring Pittsburgh for the Zags 20 disparate at the line that was because snacks Zakir Bell came in and just took off this year he's he's finding himself once again look [Applause] yes thank you foul show me the replay mr. Baum I'm a two straight days we can see the West Coast Conference happen to number one play at sports centers top ten on an NFL football Sunday by the way the offensive end we'd like to welcome you all to the Brandon Clark show we'll glad that you're in attendance I want to start to the second half this is pond are you kidding me number one Gonzaga two minutes in has opened up a five-point lead at Clark saves it - Perkins he was looking for killing until he found on the bench no he was looking for doorbell but the official tripped him if this was a football game that would be tripping that's a penalty and replay the dough I mean the official come on get up before you can't be tripping players that's good defense though Rick Barnes appreciates it as it strives 80 but I gotta say Killian Tilly in his defense was open for zags fans they want to see them opening in unison they're hoping for the beginning of conference play great job getting the ball exactly where it's a zone and just able to finish over the top I'm telling you look at this Gonzaga team and all they've accomplished so far this season having that things they have is Laura Bell scored his first points of the game they're missing two of their top seven how will that affect them when Crandall and Tillie come back well they'll just continue to beat people and maybe by a larger margin these guys are very good players and Perkins can't step off the floor and gets no rest right now because you can't afford to put a 1 event and then Tilley is arguably the best 3-point shooter from the corner that's for sure just it's gotta be scary activists inside the suni Williams rattles out really hot shibaura clears [Applause] touchy we're spinning inside and walk here we'll take the walk he didn't walk the charge [Applause] you know I've been around the west coast gone for a while and we've seen similar walkthroughs best teams I was Harun when they had the big cake when they were number one in the country for the first time in program history they've had some unbelievable stops who sees an unbelievable runs this team has the potential to really do that and finally great result and when I say brilliant part I'm not talking about anything other than the national championship in Minnesota at the end of the seats here were awfully close two years ago it was right here in the Valley of the Sun as sad for Val that's the decklid gets the bucket largest lead for number one Gonzaga snacks on his birthday start with beasts in the rim the rebound Gonzaga pushing transition train Scofield players hiccup macaques [Applause] it's cover miss by two offensive glass Scofield can't convert inside Brett Williams the offensive rebound Admiral Scofield and his grand interior passing once again by grant Williams knowing with scope builders but not all plays are created equal unbelievable you see him a mark Buford the winningest percentage of the head coach in the history of college basketball he is a head of John Wooden just look at sinking just for a second so Perkins has passed Stockton confused now a head of wooden as Hachi bara throws it away they beat Florida in this building to get that Elite Eight with KC Calvary's tippet and the balls who tied with Auburn atop the SEC last season here's the SEC in the top 25 tough loss for Kentucky yesterday but look at Tennessee Auburn Mississippi State's off to a great start and I think those other teams in the SEC this year that are going to continue to climb I think LSU is going to find themselves some disappointing outcomes down in Orlando but the substance is the league as we talked about so frequently in the first half is with Tennessee and Auburn I mean those are the two teams that return the most from the season ago the shiny toys are with Kentucky they're disjointed right now they're not playing the best basketball they struggled at home against UNC Greensboro they lose it against Seton Hall yesterday I think Knoxville is going to be the heart this year that you've got to try to win it if you phone missing a 30 Apple Schofield in the offensive glass and Breanna Clarke the rebound for Gonzaga as Tennessee has gone cold to start the second half well the difference right now is Brandon Clark is trying to match the intensity that we've seen from grant Williams and hapless copula lady Clarke picks it up strips it in and Gonzaga Spencer likes his legs just a difference maker right now on the floor is Brandon Clark he has come out of the locker room and he has found himself a Tim is 13 since halftime now if you're looking at Tennessee Dave how do you get back into this game that'll help that helps but they need to continue to play through their post when they've got the ball inside the paint and then had kick-outs they're shooting better than 50% on the game and so that and that usually means you put the ball in the hands of Brent gloves and Admiral Scopus go to validate knock to the big three [Applause] I open doorbell way off with a three the Brandon Clark inside and a kick-out the pull-up for brewing Hutchy boy 16:4 Hachi burro and his first points of the second half that is all based though on for any Clarke's ability to get that offensive rebound maintain possession Tennessee early in the game was really doing a great job getting on the offensive watch they had seven offensive rebounds in the first went eight minutes and then down the stretch in the final 12 they didn't have one foul called against Gonzaga knocks it down from the free-throw line second ballot Hachi Morra this Gonzaga 7 / 10 to the floor in the second half the ball is holding 4 of 16 Tennessee led by as many as nine in the first half of this game and apples Scofield the top you know and both of practices as he watch him he is hopeful he holds his teammates accountable and thus he expects that out of himself as well the pull-ups and its glory by Kyle Alexander stringing together some stops now the Tennessee I wanted to get the ball in the paint at the elbow free-throw line area at least once in this possession if I'm the wolf grant Williams is there [Applause] in the little screen of sub-grant Williams his third turnover by Tennessee next Saturday college basketball on ESPN is Villanova travels to Phog Allen Fieldhouse to take on number two Kansas in a sonic blockbuster noon Eastern also available everywhere on the ESPN app this is this is college basketball this year sit back and enjoy it and we talked about possible every week matters the way the teams have scheduled this year we talked about the surgery Atlanta you're getting a lot of top matchups like we've seen this afternoon between choose the best teams in the country two teams that have the vision of winning the national championship at the end of the year Admirals don't feel the pull up come on yeah come on Admiral Schofield we have a one-point game inside 12 minutes to go [Applause] it's a block party in Phoenix today damage coming here in the second half and a problem for Tennessee as Clark gets his own miss and then not only after that there's nobody stepping to him as he dunks it Brad Williams down on the floor wave off the shot foul on the floor against Gonzaga this is the problem for Tennessee is that Kyle Alexander now has four fouls so he is on the bench for a while tablo Schofield way off chases down his own best and then gets the road to heal at the rim okay so I guess there's a new role you don't box off any of the shooters in this game contagious clearly Scofield just came in and basically just do the same thing for three Portland he's been playing very well as of late for the ball Schofield down with 14 deep three from Zach Dorval jeanja Tennessee clearance [Applause] tipped out Android and a reset for Tennessee x : soldier we grab that with two hands and tip it out and give your team a chance he pods from date and then rebound controlled by his ass buddy and grant I am standing right before just gonna drop it off energy located to find a better shot it's great to attack Silla trying to get it in as apprentice' it stays with Gonzaga going to show you brain court didn't get shot at the free-throw line Admiral school club he knows this one is off as soon as his feet touch the ground and looking and follow it and make sure that he got the offensive rebound and then finished the shooter always knows where it's going [Applause] Zach bell junior can refrain his first three of the game [Applause] listen Akali snacks with the thermic snacks for your birthday sick cookies so what kind of chocolate chips Lock by John Fulkerson that bonkers it secures it defeat is not for the weak or the leery this afternoon well that's clearly been established [Applause] inside of Fulkerson and a foul I'm really hot tomorrow and that's history [Applause] because I became [Applause] wouldn't give you that impression with a prove loudly okay focus it now three four five Adeline 14 each and Admiral Schofield and great Williams to lead Tennessee will cut yourself back in the game very successful stint in the first half in a lane violation against Gonzaga gives another free throw to Pope Francis is on Petrocelli he stepped in early I'd step in early to fun trying to box out Admiral Scofield we get Admirals think you're talking at the future Oh Ron right looking at those oh he's tall and it's going bad or fair Gonzaga is located in Louisville a popular vote right now I love it teacher again and Norville ghost activated largest lead for Gonzaga glory kiss / the rebound mr. lost the handle attaboys tennessee ball as Kistner was on the antlion it's just pulling it too fast it's like a wide receiver that's trying to catch the ball and as he's as the ball is coming he's looking upfield to see where he can run with it kiss played on that one was looking to attack before he even caught the ball which is why he never had his intake meet straight for Gonzaga to go up a 42 to go [Applause] his axe reach up to his own you gotta get the ball on the high post loose ball picked up an Admiral's Scofield gets the bucket right place right time they often offer and that's what makes this tandem so unique aren't guaranteed in response at Josh Perkins mystic great a clock down pensive rebound natsu-san steps out gets his own miss and crashes into the key and a charm offensive phallus Schofield held his position Schofield and Williams are gorgeous dreams they're the best players on the team and they sit there they take charge after charge after farms they dive on for the floor for every loose ball when your best player are us on your hardest workers it becomes infectious and that's part of what's gone on and Scofield and Novell continue to talk to each other I mean this this is fantastic [Applause] be patient here in this possession [Applause] as deflected back Perkins lawyers recovers Admirals field launches and Scofield at 3:00 [Applause] 19 for Scofield his third three and he cuts the Gonzaga lead in half no gun [Applause] back and forth we go won a game in Phoenix in and out for joining ball [Music] travel six point game just over seven minutes to go and there's been a lot of talking back and forth Admiral Schofield joins with Zack Norville he says I got your dream right here Tennessee get back into it doorbell says I'll see you and I'll match it the other end [Applause] [Music] great game in Phoenix is number one Gonzaga leading number seven Tennessee the air force reserve Jerry Colangelo of classic along with Sean Farnham ESPN crew Roxy burns - with you the home of the Phoenix Suns and this has been a back and forth intense battle between two top ten teams going at it such high level loops here at early December and I go back to grant Williams he is just three assists shy of a triple double he's got 14 11 and 7 assists in tonight's game I mean just tremendous tide level basketball out of grant Warner and we'll Scofield leads Tennessee with 1968 from brandy Klark and really Nakamura to lead Gonzaga so Hachi Moore has been quiet here in the second matter he draws the foul will get to the line because minutes have increased and how the holes change to these people forget when he came over he was taking ESL classes and missing practices multiple times per week and as he is transitioned in and by the way also some pretty good players in front of them but as he's transitioned in that he's been more and more people on the international level really hatching Nora had been a player that had gone with a lot of attention for a long time shut that look from Tempe that will Stoke via bishops tomorrow at 8 o'clock [Applause] this lead for Gonzaga he forced the backline of the defense to step up in the zone and it leaves an empty spacing Clark was there dude possession to the wall these type of possessions he has to get a touch between the corner not dead Jordan Mountain for Tennessee Amy how many times you see that in the game the best player gets to touch you get quick ball reversal action no dribbles forcing the defense to have to have a little bit longer close outs and you find a wide open corner three corners and range the ballot the teardrop nest for Perkins and the rebound control grant variance Dixon from Jordan bones had a lot of good fast-break looks for Tennessee but that all starts with the rebound and in the acceleration really hot see Laura 19 now dan another one for Jordyn Bowden Tennessee has no stopping him I mean they're not going to back down in this game he lead gets to eight doesn't matter the balls are going to keep playing and doing what they do they are an experienced better Layton team that wants to prove that it can thrive in moments like this they tighten up the D [Applause] who saw under the tree Cory kiss / keeps it alive to the south minutes to play number one I know Gonzaga against number seven six and one Tennessee [Applause] for a kiss for balance gets the role that size for the support history [Applause] clock at 10 [Applause] inside the grant Williams machi war but a foul baton truly that's its 43-44 to go andrewy hot zoom or just picked up his fourth by 344 remaining number one Gonzaga at leading number seven Tennessee's 68-63 and Shawn we were so excited about this matchup coming in two great teams going at it has lived up to your expectations dumb question of course it has I mean look these are two teams who started the broadcast talking about two teams that legitimately can win a national championship this game is good enough to be a national champion game from the end of the season it has completely lived up to so forth I mean we have seen high level plays above the rim trenni Clark's block-grant Williams block we've seen Bryant selfishness from the team's 19 assists on 24 May field goals for Tennessee balanced touring tour guys great scallions up the inbound for guys with 10 figures coming 10 points or more flipping executive bulldogs and it's a one-possession game with under 4 the trouble for mark few is brewing hats Laura just picked up his for travels on the bench right now Gorgons is singing the rebound at will Schofield Tennessee George bonus load up two on three that didn't have Loomis but at time Schofield we're tied with 315 to go season-high 22 for Admiral Schofield it doesn't get much different than this [Music] Admiral Schofield is one of those players that this always seems to be in the right spot he plays with great emotion he plays with great effort he is develop for multiple times during the course of this game and then in big moments shown his continued improvement from beyond the uh I mean his motor doesn't stop his energy doesn't stop and this three right here tied us up at 6822 a season high for Scofield a career high of 25 he went over a thousand points a few weeks ago in there whiticus Louisville and a tie game of greed this tend to play as Tennessee looking for their fifth all-time win against number one and for Rick Barnes it would be his first [Applause] populist Tokido Williams yesterday said we still feel like we're the hunters you know we are we are not fatty and that everybody needs a is going off and all just have to be a tough team you want to be a tough program we want our lineage to last years after they're gone this is one of those opportunities one of those games when you can leave remark Anna Fowler put Brandon Clark kept alive like it had nothing to do with the Barca Messina shock it's both mean ouch and now he's gotten on the best players on the court before personal fouls don't rip the Williams house for Alexander has fought for Tennessee Jordan boundedness handsome boy playing with for himself has the river [Applause] half minutes to play he knows that the frustration was he founded balance law and that's the importance under that previous season still be the game and for any lesson seeplanet would be there but you also have to be smart enough in this situation where Grant Williams you might just want to give up those two to make sure you have an opportunity to get multiple possessions for your team to put them in the right position to try to win this game so without Williams how does Tennessee need to move forward well it's clearly you're going through Scofield anyways I mean he's been the best player on the board as far as compensatory and promise but I think that you're gonna rely a little bit more on gold and batten down the throat he's hit some big threes here in the second half as Williams fouls out with 16 I walk the ball touches both your hands on every single possession in the halfcourt he's got to get a touch he's got to be involved he sent the screen up top [Applause] at 52 for the animals tofu is a big shot maker and he's willing to take the big shots he's proving that over the course of his career one off a career high 25 twice last year once against Ole Miss and also against South Carolina Zach Burgos jr. this t3 - koi history and a reset for the sounds [Applause] that's a really high bar iPods controls Tennessee looking for the lead [Applause] Gonzaga noticed squirt to start the second half [Applause] six on that possession got bad grades or Admiral Scofield 27 for Scofield and five threes and he gives Tennessee to lead to go and Josh Perkins just tossed the ball to Jordan bone the referees did a good job stepping in on it but Admiral Schofield has put on an absolute show here at Phoenix Arizona watch the defense being able to defend slapping the ball away and then at the other end of the floor Schofield gets his hands on it doesn't matter Mb a line put behind that he's got it the bench loves it the Schofield plays was such a confidence as I mentioned he is a big shot taker and maker for Tennessee he got off to a slow start this year also the first three games of the year was only averaging 12 points a game and he made only three threes he's got 22 of his career high 27 since halftime he has made five threes in this game and since the first three over the last five games now he's averaging over 20 a game and he has paid 15 threes over the last five and the Zags have not mad a main field goal in over three minutes down the stretch of this game proficient offenses so what does that tell you goes back to it we started the game mentioning about Tennessee their ability to lock down and be a good defensive team Rick Barnes told you and I as you spoke to him before this contest is he our big focus is not worry about the offense the office we're going to get our office we've got to continue to be an elite of the defensive team as we possibly can be because that is our statement that is what will get us games that is what's going to carry us down the stretch of the season it's what's carried them down the stretch of this game balls by to 109 remaining there is Schofield with that Bank free give Tennessee 2-point lead led by as many as nine early in this game and then Gonzaga had a nine point lead here in the second man right if your guns agate and he played this offensive oh I want to sit in on balls and try to get Clark going downloading pain [Applause] post-up not you more the post [Music] [Applause] he gets under time Atlas Schofield is lame this fresh shot clock with his hat and we are tied with just over 45 seconds to go his hands on the ball in this possession [Applause] isolate him and space it out Rick Barnes once time and timeout with 29 and a half seconds remaining 14 to shoot 73 all and we go back to Wednesday night that game at the kennel where you look at Admiral Schofield over there getting looked at it's lower back area over at the Tennessee huh [Music] they have 14 seconds to go on the shot clock all right so if you're designing you know you've got it this you've got to be telling you guys hey we got a hump in for 13 seconds and then we've got to get the rebound if you've seen anything here in the second half you know as soon as the shot goes up Schofield is going to attack it can I be selfish for a second we get five more minutes at this game I'm sick I would take six overtimes of this game between this this is as good as it gets in college basketball the shotgun is here so he was there at that one [Applause] then it's up not for mark you 17 seconds remaining and Admiral Schofield a career-high 30 points and he has been enormous for the Vols down the stretch as good as it gets as good as an individual performance you've seen in college basketball this season because of the stage the opponent Admiral Schofield this just in Gonzaga you probably don't want to leave him wide open rui Hachem ER and Josh Perkins won't go with the ball it creates a longer run out for Hachem er for communication that time by the Zags leave the space and allow Admiral Schofield to get his feet set and not get down so for mark you and Gonzaga they're out of timeouts now down 317 seconds to go how do you play this offensive it there's two ways to go here one you're gonna look as you get in down low quick get something going to the rim and get to the free-throw line and then foul immediately and try to elongate this game the other option that you have is when you have a player like you're fell out on the floor maybe you love him in the screening action that forces the defense to step just like we saw with spoken of this end and free up nor bail to take the shot Tennessee looking for their first win over at number one since January here's kiss Burt three Alexander The Tennessean afoul with 7.2 remaining they did exactly what I thought they would they got more [Applause] but the defense of Tennessee these stayed attached they communicated superbly loses possession look at the way that they're rotating look at how there's no space how attached there is at Hope side position that is textbook defense from the Tennessee Volunteers they did not give in little ones entire pile Alexander at the line 7.2 remaining and a 30 taken by Tennessee it's a 1 at once and the seventh team foul against Gonzaga and Alexander a tripping foul shooter on the year 78% and a 1 and 1/2 possibly put the game away for Tennessee though a chance to beat number one for the Vols and there are therefore all-time wins against the top-ranked team in the country and for Rick Barnes this would be the first time he has ever beaten the top-ranked team that tremendous at Yoga Tennessee a rich basketball tradition I've done a ton of games in Knoxville over the last four years in that place is one of the best environments in the country when it's rockin and they've been out supporting this team from jump and what Rick Barnes has done in building this program and getting it to the level in which it is now without the sizzle and pop without the flat right but it is all about substance and that substance is permeated dance leadership and its leadership comes from atlas grant Williams is on the bench walking and positioning pounds on the floor Alexander missus do you found your Tennessee yes Hachi boy for the three and it is over and number one goes down near Venice Tennessee behind Abra Scofield comes back to knock on the unbeaten zag 76-73 what a win for the Tennessee Volunteers [Applause] Admiral Schofield is in the crowd [Applause] you think this means something you think this means something to this program the SEC has had itself with Sunday Alabama knocked off Arizona Admiral Scofield willed his team to a victory in the second half of this game and made a huge statement for the Tennessee Volunteers there is no question who the player the game was the emotion of Admiral Scofield the community that back and forth between Zack Norville jr. that's what high level basketball is about that book playing championship level basketball is about 25 of his career-high 30 points coming in the second half and this was the final sequence in last hole for Gonzaga the last two productions being one of them really good looks for the Zags and you have to credit Tennessee their defenses the attention to details down the stretch and water performance by Admiral Schofield a career-high 30 points when grant Williams fouled out Schofield took this game over and he found a way to will his team to knock off the number one team in the country as nine know Gonzaga is unbeaten no more the final again in Phoenix Tennessee 76 Gonzaga 73 for Sean Farnham our terrific ESPN crew roxy Bernsen sings so long for now for the desert sports centers coming up next [Music] the ESPN app now with ESPN Plus get more yes you just came over here Admiral Schofield and Excel me what a show take me through the emotions of beating number one in the country well honestly for us it was just another game but you know the number of front makes it special but for us you know we worked really hard didn't get Kansas but it's great to get the number one team in the country but that's just a personal you know we got to keep improving some more big games to come we look at this as a big game this was another game but we prepare well came on executed you told me yesterday you're tired of playing in these type of games and being told it's a learning experience for this team yes sir well now you finally got one yeah how does that feel it feels great you know to talk about it but they actually go out and do it is amazing it's a great feeling I know coach Warren does that but you know he really wanted this one so you know my teammates I'm out I love those guys man what was going on in the second half for you though you got so hot from the outside the emotions you were jogging back and forth with Zack wrote about junior how did that motivate you to get going well you know what honestly I love when people talk to you you give me motivation I'm coming I'm gonna bring it but you know what I didn't have a great first half I wanted to give my to show and that's what I came on and do your coach has accomplished an awful lot in his career he had never beaten a number one ranked team in the country he just did what does it mean for you to get that win for Coach given the trust that he is showing you it means a lot one of the reasons I came back there's not time there's a you ever coached that's one of my biggest goals and also being a great leader for this team it wasn't scoring 20 points and wasn't scoring 30 points or getting 10 rebounds it was just being coach's favorite player and I think tonight I did that I think he feels pretty good about what you did Admiral Scofield put on a show sir certainly his Tennessee Volunteers did as they knock off number one Gonzaga Bulldogs here in Phoenix Arizona I think it could be a preview of what we could see in Minnesota common April for the NCAA Final Four national championship let's go back to SportsCenter
