2017 NL Wild Card Game | D-backs vs. Rockies

Better than forty eight thousand fans are ready for baseball in the desert tonight. The Rockies and Diamondbacks have met 19 times this year. Whoever wins meeting number 20. Fancies to take on the Los Angeles Dodgers twenty seventeen and a wildcard coverage on TV as presented by hand foot tiger. That's just one game. It's over for the loser. The winner gets the Dodgers Rockies and Diamondbacks. Welcome everybody I'm Ernie Johnson along with Ron Darling and Ron and we've seen enough of these games over the years to know they can be wildly unpredictable just look at last night's game in New York. But here's what we do know in the MVP conversation you've got four players in this game alone for the visiting Colorado Rockies. You have to start with Nolan now or not one of the best all round players in the game. He's driven in over one hundred and thirty and the last three seasons we've got Charlie Black and he's got the 11th batting title for the Colorado Rockies. He's got Paul Goldsmith for the Arizona Diamondbacks. He's a perennial MVP candidate. And J.D. Martinez who joined the team in mid-July at twenty nine home runs for them 16 coming in September. When you talk about the pitching matchup in this wild card game you have got a guy who has Cy Young credentials a guy who's been there and done that and then you have a first timer. Well it's gonna be interesting to watch because that rank he's one of the best pitchers in the game got one of the biggest contract you'll ever see the pitch these kinds of games. Nine postseason starts for Zach and John Gray. It's his first but quietly he's become the ace of that young pitching staff for the Colorado Rockies home field in the wild card game makes you hardly a lock in fact in the National League the last three years the home team has not only lost they've been shut out it's the Rockies it's the Diamondbacks. You can see a gold glove for Pollock and center field. He's the captain out there lots of gold great. He is a great field pitcher and a great hitter Goldsman of course to do it all. That first base could tell Marty who they weren't sure if he was going to be out of play. He had a little bit of a hamstring issue. They've had a real problem with their shortstop all season long. And the thing about Mathis is he talks about Zach is such an intellectual pitcher that what he does each and every time he catches them he tries to match his intellect. John Gray tried to escape here in the bottom of the first with just the three run homer Mike Goldschmidt someone your Colorado Rockies pitcher you've gone through a lot of these games when you pitch in your home ballpark you know your team can score runs. You've just got to hold them here lamb and Pollock the runners Mathis waits one ball and two strikes ninety eight miles an hour from grace. So he's got enough on his pitches.
