ceremonial coin toss classic and years ago he hired Pete Carroll in 1985 to be his defensive backs coach and people getting a big kick out of it god bless well she's lived here 21 years preparing for moments like today let's go down to the field and here's Michele Tafoya when Bud Grant was coaching the Vikings in old metropolitan stadium this is how they would try to unfreeze the field on days like today needless to say it wasn't very effective but today the only thing that might not be frozen in this place is the field when the Vikings moved into this temporary home two years ago they installed an advanced heating system under the field and it is essentially a big radiator with 7,000 gallons of hot water mixed with antifreeze being pumped through more than 30 tubing and that mixture is heated by the stadium steam system and is designed to keep the turf above 40 degrees in temperatures as low as 15 below zero and a windchill of 39 below and al while we won't see temperatures that cold today at kickoff it will be minus six making it the third coldest playoff game in NFL history so it's time to see which of these teams can best channel its inner Elsa from frozen who famously sang the cold never bothered me anyway Thank You Michelle at least that the Sun is out it will develop the field in an hour or so wildcard situation Seahawks win if they go to Carolina next Sunday to meet the number one ranked Panthers and the number two seed Cardinals with the bye at home awaiting the Vikings if the Vikings win otherwise to get the women of the Green Bay watching game cordarrelle Patterson who had the only score for Minnesota in the Seattle game five weeks ago when he ran a kickoff back for a touchdown but at that point the score was 35 to nothing Steven Houska will kick off for Seattle Seattle won the toss and the Seahawks deferred ordinarily you'd think kick it out of the end zone but in this kind of weather a guy like cordarrelle Patterson is going to get his chance kickoffs and punts do not figure they go nearly as far as they would on the normal conditions and this one example a taken at the 3 yard line by Patterson and he gets taken down to the 12 yard line good tackle by cassius Marsh had a good season on special teams let's take a look at the Minnesota offense Teddy Bridgewater little agent Peterson Oklahoma Stefon Diggs Mike Wallace Oh Mike Oh Pruitt 7:09 Khalil University of Southern California Brandon Fusco Slippery Rock University Joe Berger and Michigan Tech University Mike Harris you see a life to take lemmings Pittsburgh Fleming is a rookie picked in the fourth round start with 1 wide out here that's Adrian Peterson has the run back faster cut to his left is taken down by Michael Bennett big number 72 who figures to be all over the place today as he normally is teddy bridgewater drafted at the end of the first round last year out of Louisville the number 32 choice and over his first two seasons he's completed almost 2/3 of his passes that's the highest in NFL history over the first two seasons a lot of stuff of course is our check downs shorter passes and all quarterbacks a game manager but in effect that's what Teddy's done pretty well over the past couple of years second and 11 from the 11 yard line the fake and then the passion to the sunlight and Mike Wallace makes the catch at the 20 yard line it's going to be third and 1 he's covered there by Richard Sherman we know how fast Mike Wallace is from his days and with the Pittsburgh Steelers and Richard Sherman on the outside is completely left alone they're bringing kam chancellor down already around the line of scrimmage to play against Adrian Peterson so that's the one matchup you go Kay Richard Sherman is one of the best quarterbacks but the speed of Wallace will be a factor in this one at least intimidating deep a little bit third and lon now they're going to bring a fullback in that Zac line in front of Peterson that sets up in the slot we got a flag first flag of the game moving along the line of scrimmage for the moment that's Adrian Peterson who will have picked up the first nine of its against the defense Walt Coleman is today's referee Michael Bennett gets a ton of those in fact he was telling us I think his daughter's about eight or nine years old and at breakfast one day she said daddy would you stop jumping offside all the kids are making fun of me at school it is a problem though but you know he's also a pro bowler he's their leading sacker and there's a reason he wants to get off to a fast start that's his game the speed first down from the 26 yard line avoids a tackle in the backfield it's Michael Bennett who putting that wrap up picks up a couple get to that to the 28 yard line it'll be second down and eight then it's gonna go right inside Matt Khalil on this one and it is his speed and quickness that has been such a problem you know we were talking with all the different guys Mike Zimmer and they said they just couldn't believe what a game wrecker Michael Bennett was you could see him on tape and you think he's can do this plus he has a lot of freedom out on the field he has the ability if he sees something he does so much film study they let him go and the other guys cover for him ten sacks first Pro Bowl has been in the league for seven seasons Rich the gun now on second down on e-bay fake throws and that's corked and that'll be the first pass the font digs epic a nice rookie season out of the University of Maryland he was picked in the fifth round first down yeah DeSean shed was going to react up to the screen pass and instead Bridgewater saw that through the slant there was nobody in there so nice job it looks like Bridgewater is kind of under control already he's got a couple of quick completions I don't think you're gonna see a lot of deep balls down the field get the ball out of his hands don't let this pass rush become a factor Vikings Mill you don't have a go-to receiver Diggs the rookie who caught that last one let the team in receptions with only 52 it'll be second down and 10 let's take a look at that Seattle defense Michael Bennett 80 Taylor high school a table Ruben Iowa State Brandon me Ben Crenshaw is a cliff Averill Boilermaker KJ right Mississippi State Bobby Wagner the Utah State Route service Almost Heaven West Virginia Richard Sherman Stanford kam Shasta Virginia Tech Perot Thomas DBU Texas Jeremy Lane John Tyler hi for years now that defense fantastic again this year leading the league in scoring defense by EU allowed the fewest points and they've only done that for four years in a row in fact over the years covered by Sherman dangerous past got away with it third down Richard Sherman was all over this they did you kidding me maybe you put Mike Wallace out here on me and I'll scare be a scaredy he just grabbed his arm and ran right with him never gave Michael Pruitt the tight in a chance to make that block Minnesota faced with a third down and ten opening drive of the wild card game and on third down long they bring Asiata 44 into the backfield and will likelihood to provide extra protection which he does and bridge warden throws and that's caught up at the 42 yard line trying to get that first time as Jarius Wright who's been their best receiver over the last month of the season but he stopped short of a first down so it'll be fourth and 1 at the 46 yard line well we saw Mike Zimmer fake a punt early in the game against the Green Bay Packers we're talking about he talks regularly with Bill Parcells and he talks about being aggressive and taking chances and at least he's gonna try a hard count here if nothing else Bridgewater pretty good at that too right we pulled one off last week off the opening drive and it was good for 40 yards on a fake by Thielen so it's fourth down and one Peterson with a fullback in front of him he's gonna go and he's gonna sneak and he appears to have picked up the first down so Teddy Bridgewater at first the way he he started that cadence he thought is just simply trying to drive gets the animal to come off side but instead he keeps it over left guard first down you can see a little hole that's the bubble they're gonna try and run to there and Joe purger who's having probably the best season of anybody the center up there with a key block a double team on the other side but I loved what Bridgewater did you heard him go through the snap count the first time so hot and then it looked like everybody goes okay they're just gonna fake this they're gonna try and draw us offsides then they went with the quarterback sneak Vikings have started the game with three successive first downs five minutes into the quarter Peterson unable to get on track here look Averell making the tackle you all know that Peterson missed all of last year except for the opening game because of the child abuse charges he was suspended comes back this year and there are his numbers well in front of Doug Martin of Tampa Bay who was second and nobody else was really even close 1,400 85 yards third rushing title for him 2008 2012 and this season he comes out Jerick McKinnon and he has played well of late comes into the backfield in second-year guy out of Georgia southern very versatile and they bring hold-off into the back field as well to the outside and that by MacKinnon who's very close to a first down the Shan shed makes the tackle it'll be third down and short we'll try and get him in here run a little route on Bobby Wagner on the inside these are the throws are going to want to make all day MacKinnon really has been a bit of a revelation on this offense he's become so much of a factor on third down and just the ability now to set up these third and shorts third down and one we've already seen a willingness to go for it on fourth down and already this game feels different than the first time these two teams got together when they just couldn't convert anything they were second down and 38 at one point in that game third down and one yeah that game was over early as 20 to nothing Seattle at halftime Michael Bennett was the first guy through so Adrian Peterson doing a little dancing and darting going to the outside but nothing was there then it will get credit for the stop and it's fourth down they keep trying to pull Lymon around and Michael Bennett is just gonna swim right through all the blocks there and disrupt everything once you get in the backfield it is just a problem now you've got Adrian Peterson having to go sideways and going sideways against the Seattle defense is nearly impossible this defense is just too fast so Jeff watt comes in timeout is taken here by Seattle before they get the ball this walk our playoff game be brought to you by Verizon join a better network because better matters by McDonald's celebrating the NFL playoffs with breakfast all day by Toyota let's go places and by Patsy the official sponsor of the Pepsi Super Bowl halftime show is the scene a Sunday night like in celebration to throwing the Green Bay Packers winning the NFC North and getting a home game that was what was at stake last week Packers lose during the playoffs but they're on the road at Washington later today walk to putt and it's a short kick that it will be down at the 21 yard line the Seattle offense their first action when we come back Russell Wilson fourth year in the league 34 TDS only eight interceptions the passer rating which is a little bit arcane and convoluted but he led the league in that category and no matter how you want to slice it that means you had a good year and he did especially down the stretch on fire over the last seven games of which they went six the running back is Kristin Michael the story there we'll get to it at the moment from the 22 yard line and they give it to Michael to the 25 yard line he was a Seahawk started the season in their camp they're traded to Dallas they let him go he went to Washington he was on the practice but brought him back because Marshawn Lynch had gotten hurt Thomas Rawls took over did a great job but then he got hurt it looked like Lynch was ready to play this week but he did not get on the plane with the team coming here on Friday still recovering from abdominal surgery sports hernia and so Kristen Michael is going to be the key guy along with Fred Jackson number 22 bill who's been in the league nine years and this is his first playoff game second down and seven will simmer the clean pocket that floats third down let's take a look at the Seattle starters Russell Wilson from a whole pack of that Kristen Michael takes his and Doug Baldwin Stanford your main curse is Washington Tyler Lockett Kansas State Cooper over dude Russell Oakland Oklahoma State Justin Britt LHS em eyes the padua Texas A&M JR Sweezy NC State Garry Gilliam Penn State and now a third down 70 Seahawks spread it out Wilson who never wears gloves no matter how cold it is play clock is all the way down to one and the bass is juggled and incomplete first the intended receiver Xavier Rhodes is there the quick rail out well you always want to catch the first one when you're playing in different conditions and that one got away from Jermaine Kearse there nice job by Xavier Rhodes a little bit of an issue maybe with the Sun field that line right there he went from the shadows into the Sun who knows doing the benefit of the doubt I'd guess but that's a positive this whole beginning of this game is a positive for the Vikings and Ryan has the fielding looks but then he's going to take off of it and John Ryan to the 29-yard line and that's a bigger positive yes the snack bike Clint Gresham was low and so Minnesota is going to start with a short field at the see an old 29 yard line already you see a low snap that's part of the cold do you see a punter with no gloves on who's now going to try and take off and they make the stop so are the weather conditions a factor so far you have to say yes the team not used to dealing with these conditions as having a problem so far on to Minnesota's benefit at least at this point as you look at what is the home of the University of Minnesota football team Ryan Burt as well on the play as he tried to hurdle tonight you've got your punter on the bench and Minnesota back on the field after that first long drive Peterson the tailback from the 29 yard line Peterson swingin to the outside have picked up about three Richard Sherman makes the stop falling to 26 second down now the one thing that I think is so underestimated about Richard Sherman's game is his ability to make these tackles because they've got speed guys inside and Adrian Peterson probably the most explosive fast runner off the edge and game after game I am after time you see Richard Sherman making that tackle anytime running backs tend to bounce outside very underestimate a part of his game he's played all over the place this year in the slot a lot as well on the corners second and seven big gaping hole for Peterson to go through and he's just shy in the first now KJ Wright makes the tackle he Carroll taking a closer look at this very close to a first down they've been running across the field and now these guys jump inside and they do the same side handoff and they come back this way you see Michael Bennett jump all the way across it's great what he does he ad-libs if he sees something he's allowed to take his shot like a Troy Polamalu right out of the way he used to play but now sometimes he's gonna jump out of position and just like that it's going to create a big play for the Vikings and there is John Ryan still working on him he had his nose blood he third down and inches from the 19 yard line of Bridgewater is gonna take a timeout so each team has taken a timeout here in the first quarter a five and a half to go in the first no score Adrian Peterson rushing champ nine years in the league Seahawks defense number one in rushed defense giving up only 81 for game postseason history the number one rush defense six and four when facing a roughy champion and only 59 yards for those champs and those games nobody's had a hundred yards and right now Peterson has started today six carries eight yards after the timeout it is third and inches leadership the line of scrimmage that we'll probably met him the first down with every yards been tough for him seven carries from nine yards now but they build the sticks one of the problems that adrian peterson style is he wants to be so deep that's what seven yards something like that eight yards behind the line of scrimmage well in a short yardage situation that was offensive lineman up there fighting for their lives and by the time he actually gets there despite how fast he is sometimes penetration can occur for forty five to go scoreless in the opening quarter toss it to Peterson thanks to what look back nothing Bennett is there to make sure that there is no gain it'll be second down let's take a look at what happened to John Ryan the punt to that low snap tried to run and then does a faceplant well and on a game in a game in which you've figured to see a lot of putts you don't know does the concussion protocol kick in here exactly what do we have working nose bleeding so normally what a team would do you go to the place kicker is the backup punter we'll see second 12 after a loss of two MacKinnon now in the backfield they send him into the pattern he makes the grab over the middle breaks one tackle and then these stored for a nice game broke away from Kant Chancellor that doesn't happen very often gain of seven and they'll be third down and five well you see this so much with MacKinnon he's going to come out of the backfield fake this way and go this way this time and they bring kam chancellor over there probably their surest tackler but he's been out for three games with that pelvis injury and so he misses the tackle big third down now you would love to have points on the board but a touchdown feels completely differently in this kind of a situation to Pro Bowlers Thomas and Chancellor part of the Legion of boom on third down and five and vigil ordered the protection clothes and that is a first down Stefon Diggs the rookie setting up a first down and gold the Sean shed on the outside is going to react out and nice read by Teddy Bridgewater they have not held the football in this game they are not taking chances with that pass rush it was a tough day for this offensive line last time they met but because of the pace of the throws coming out of Bridgewater's hands it has not been an issue so far Minnesota's my seventeen plays in Seattle's run for leadership two hard yards to the five yard line they're just having a tough time blocking Michael Bennett you know it's not like he's doing anything that unusual that he is just splitting between offensive linemen up front and working almost laterally down the line of scrimmage last time these two teams met of course Seattle 20 to nothing lead took Minnesota down to the running game but Peterson that they carried the ball only eight times all day he's already carried the ball nine times in the first quarter make a 10 here to the four he goes it will be third down and goal Norv Turner is the offensive coordinator came here with Mike Zimmer when Zimmer took over last year nor of course head coach years ago in Washington Oakland and San Diego a nice job with this offense the young quarterback he got Peterson bringing along the receivers a young quarterback with a huge play right here you got MacKinnon in the backfield that has been a little bit of a safety blanket there let's see be broken up at the three yard line intended from a Kenan and KJ right kind of one of the the quieter of the Seahawk defend his gender here that much about him but he's had a fabulous season breaking it up fourth and goal yeah I think that's a great point KJ right to me is that one guy he's six four six five he can cover bags he can cover tight ends coming out of the backfield nobody ever talks about him leading tackler on this football team makes so many big plays for them 22 yard attempt for Blair wolf nice hold there by laka at a reach up for it puts it down a minute to go in the opening quarter Minnesota leading don't miss a moment of the action NBC Sports live extra take the game with you anywhere live on your laptop tablet in connected TVs but you didn't know we're at the world Nordic champion troops did you know those Michele going home yeah you know there's only somebody I always wonder what the over-under is on a guy like that getting to the emergency room half an hour Lockette the wrong he's been tremendous he's here but he gets wrapped up good tackle there at the 16-yard line net minutes to go in the quarter three nothing home to any of the other night good reviews shades of blue check it out Jennifer Lopez Ray Liotta starring in shades of blue you can check it out this coming Thursday night right here on NBC so the Seahawks have had the ball for a minute eight seconds and we're at the end of the first quarter Russell Wilson in the gun starting from his own 17 and hands the ball off the fiscal Michael nice run up to the 29 let's take a look at the Minnesota D Brian Robeson University of Texas Surry fluid the University of Florida and wall Joseph East Carolina everything - USC anthony bar University of California Los Angeles Eric Kendricks UCLA Bruins Chad Greenway University of Iowa Terrence Newman Kansas State Andrew Santino rice university Harrison Smith University of Notre Dame Xavier road go to state university Mike Zimmer's pedigree is defense that a great job with a crew of over the last two seasons plugging the head and twisting and turning and picking a five as Kristen Michael Sheree Floyd makes the tackle and that should take us to the second quarter so Minnesota's had the ball almost the entire period we have played one in this wild-card game three nothing biking in this lock our playoff game on NBC continues after these messages second quarter in Minneapolis Al Michaels Cris Collinsworth Michele Tafoya walk our playoff game the tundra Bowl temperature is now minus three then fill factor at the start of the game was - 25 it's second down and five out of the pistol for Wilson who hands the ball to Kristin Michael and he goes absolutely nowhere Harrison Smith is there for the tackle we go to Michele well hunter John Ryan took a spill early in this game he is questionable with a nose injury he's been trying to do some work here on the sidelines keep in mind Stephen Houska has not punted in an NFL game Brian is also the holder on field goals but we saw that Russell Wilson was practicing with the regression on the sidelines here holding so we'll see what oh boy didn't bill parcells tell Pete Carril you can't let your quarterback cold on a snapper that probably told Mike Zimmer third down and six from the 31 and Wilson's going to keep trying to take a timeout and did Blakelock was going 2-0 to fair to avoid a third and 11 Seattle takes it's a second time out of the hands let's take a look at what Russell Wilson probably saw there Mike Zimmer is known for this mug package if you will but coming off the side over here is Harrison Smith and sometimes they'll bring the corner off the other side and the nickel package and you just got the feeling that Russell Wilson realized early on that he was going to have a problem with protection right there three games against the Vikes in his four-year career look at those numbers 8 TDs no interceptions and of course those numbers very similar to the way Russell played down the stretch I mean over the the last half of the season last 7 games specifically 24 touchdown passes 1 interception that is over the moon he's been brilliant very much in the MVP conversation as far as I was concerned at the end of the year and now comes Doug Baldwin time one of the reasons his dumb his bins have been so good as dog Doug Baldwin has gone crazy 14 touchdown receptions over a thousand yards the first Seattle receiver over a thousand since oh seven this diamond formation out here the bunch four receivers to the right center lock it off toward the sideline Wilson is old for his first two passing comes to the left side and that is part that's first does he have enough for the first down Xavier Rhodes is there they're going to put it right on the yellow stripe it's of course nose unofficial but it's official now swarf Coleman says move those canes a really good route that time by Jermaine Kearse he took his time it was strictly one-on-one watch how long he takes the outside now back underneath which worked him down the field just a bit as well and leans for that first down that was a big first down for Seattle they needed to get something going their second of the game Michael back in the backfield right now and that play clock that had a challenge to yam it's it's going to be a challenge on the part of Mike Zimmer Minnesota is challenging the power this is the this is the type of challenge that rarely gets overturned but who knows we'll see when we come back very close but I don't see enough to overturn this thing we're going to show you tea in a second Zimmer challenging the spot his elbows down that's where the ball is dead the stake you see on the far side that is official but is there enough you see enough there to overturn it you know it from this angle it's a little interesting and I don't think they're gonna overturn this one either but when you looked wider at that angle you can see the far hash mark and it looked like the ball was in between but no indisputable evidence on that Zimmer wants to know what's going on he's seen the same reviews you have and he is hot I know what he saw he saw from the four hash mark where you could see the ball in between and short but when when the elbows down the the ball is the play is dead so there it is it's the official stick on the far side not enough to overturn you see Zimmer's reactions portion the end result is a first down for the Seahawks at the 38 yard line and we shall see what the net result of that is seems like possessions are rare already in this game and this could end up being one of those afternoons two tremendous defensive teams venting it's red snack three receivers to the right side and that opens up a Deeping hole for Kristen Michel who gets spun down at the 44 good tackle by Xavier Rhodes they're gonna Florida State in number one pick back in 13 this is really the power of Russell Wilson because you have to play this with him this defensive end comes up the field and then you go just because you have to play Russell Wilson on that read option it is going to create running lanes inside because Everson Griffin here has to play two guys he has to take Russell Wilson on that play and everything else got washed down Wilson rushed for 553 this year in his average was 5.2 second and four they go 5 wide here tended for Fred Jackson which we third down and four and aerial coverage being brought to you by Geico and that is where Super Bowl 52 will be in about two years u.s. Bank Stadium about I guess the three quarters complete downtown Minneapolis you're the site of the old Metrodome and here we are about a 15 minute drive from there Ziggy will with the sunglasses on with his brother Mark owner chairman Ziggy wolf of the Minnesota Vikings watching this team they made the right choice in Zimmer brand-new Stadium Super Bowl will be here in a couple of years everything looking up and meanwhile the play clock again goes to zero and a timeout is taken by Seattle and that is their last timeout of the half well we talked about there's a lot of things to talk about one of the things we should talk about too is Marshawn Lynch screech we don't see him in the in the lineup he practiced though weak indications from Pete Carroll were that he would play but they were ready to leave the facility for the airport about an hour before the buses left he said he couldn't go she's home which is disappointing because of the fact that Marshawn Lynch took almost all the practice reps this week so Kristen Michel who has recently come back from Dallas and Washington all of a sudden is going on limited reps out here today so what you need out of your player in that situation as soon as you know that you're not going to be able to play you have to tell the head coach and let him know otherwise your practice gets all messed up but without Lynch this year it hasn't been a problem they started out slowly the whole team did and then Marshawn got hurt as in played since mid-november a couple of questions here - Chris is he healthy enough to play next week if they win or is that the end of Lynch in Seattle because Thomas Rawls had a great year he got hurt but he's going to be there back of the future more likely next weekend next year two different questions he's ready he'll be in there next week Seattle can no longer challenge since they're out of timeouts in this at Minnesota has one News team born a fool warning wrong Challenge that didn't work third down in corn again that fling clock is all the way down again snap it at one Wilson's gonna take off with spun down short of the first half faultless the play was ruled dead so he is tackled up at the 46 yard line and Wilson takes a shot there it's 4th Donna Ryan is coming in to punt right now things were flying everywhere Russell Wilson got his mouthpiece knocked out I believe and then those hand warmers come flying out as well mouthpieces hand warmers everything on the ground and so far for Russell Wilson this has been tough and this is going to be interesting now so Ryan took that low snap aggression snapping it again who bounced one to him the last time but he's able to get it away Marcus Cheryl's he's gonna Cass takes a Minnesota hop comes up with it but the play whistled dead of the 28 yard line so early in the second quarter frigid Minneapolis 26 yard pot through nothing bikes talking to door turn of the offensive coordinator he said he has never seen a player on defense with more freedom that Michael Bennett has already it has shown here early in this game this is pretty straight up here making the tackle on Adrian Peterson and now watch him jump inside Khalil to get pressure on that one and then working right around the offensive line to make that big play and knock Adrian Peterson back on the third down run so it has been Michael Bennett who was the game record the first time and off to a fast start here to Minnesota begins now from the 28 yard line awkward handoff theirs Peterson takes it to the 32 it'll be second down and six teddy bridgewater he was going to be the backup to Matt Cassel last season that's the way the year began and Mike Zimmer his rookie coaching season but then Cassell got hurt so it was baptism by fire and among other things last year Bridgewater led this team to four fourth-quarter comebacks at a bad game last week by a giant mission but the three fire were very good news Peterson yeah the only thing he has to avoid today is throwing a left-handed intercept boy he said that was what the worst in the history he was not happy with himself there and he has to understand what this team is this is Adrian Peterson's team this is a team that's going to run the football and when he just completes passes and this is one of those key moments they take Adrian out you bring in Jerick McKinnon now it falls on the young quarterback now he has to make plays and occasionally he makes plays with his legs as well not quite as much as Russell Wilson but he can third and four and as MacKinnon in the back feel of them there's extra protection with Kyle Rudolph titled walk to his right that's incomplete Earl Thomas just got there the pass intended for MacKinnon it'll be fourth down and I think kam chancellor got away with one there Thomas is going to come over the top here and end up making this play but kam chancellor reaches out and grabs MacKinnon which kept him just enough away from that ball for old Thomas to be able to get there and knock that out now lock the butt Tyler Lockett who's had a great rookie season give the was so hard a very short pick and lock it brings it back to the 39 yard line freeways 1010 unless in the first dance 3-nothing Minnesota three below with the Russell Wilson in the huddle here Russell during the regular season slowstar put a tremendous finish those numbers right there first NFL player with at least 4,000 passing yards three passing TDs and 500 with his legs led the passer rating for a Seahawk do that on fire down the stretch where he was and not but I actually think he needs to run the ball a little bit here I would get him out on the edge I would do more read options they've had problems with him get him involved he only has one completion for seven yards let's go to the other part of his game started play action rolling doing okay miss Doug Coldren who had his best season by far tackled by Harrison Smith that's their longest gain of the day and the pass is good for 22 and you can see the back side now coming down starting to play the run and allowing Russell Wilson out the back side of that thing the other thing it does remember this is a team that had a lot of protection issues early on this season that bootleg gets all those defensive linemen moving one way and Russell Wilson one-on-one with some defensive end our outside line back mr. Michael get up get around the corner then we talked about Bud Grant before we saw him in a golf shirt coming after the coin toss but grant the fabled former Minnesota coach took him to four Super Bowls hired Pete Carroll as the Vikings defensive backfield coach back in 1985 and of course they've stayed very close through the years and then Pete a couple of years ago before we drafted Russell Wilson take a look at that cold bud gran course follows college football the whole thing and asked him about Russell Wilson he's Russell played his senior season at the University was fascinating the North Carolina State and here he goes as Chris suggested walked and running for a first down and send a home makes the tackle so you get but grant an assist for the drafting of Russell Wilson it worked out here watch Everson Griffin here on this one now he comes down he's going to play the running back and a true read that time by Russell Wilson here he goes you've got to make the Vikings defensively play the entire game the reason that Russell Wilson was in the MVP conversation was because he has so many facets to his game they're starting to use them comes up here in the pistol now fifteen to go in the half kristan Michael and Chris just to put a button on that but grant situation one of the reasons that Carol called grant to ask him about Wilson was because of Fran Tarkenton well wouldn't you they they look exactly alike to me when they end up playing out there the funniest part of the story was when Pete called the Vikings office there's an assistant coach that also got fired with him and buffalo who was already in Minnesota he was trying to call him and leave a message and he said wait wait Pete Carroll because but is on the phone with your wife right now let's see what's going on that was in 1985 in Peach State here through 89 into Jerry Burns bass to the outside family the season was 78 receptions in over a thousand yards and tied for the NFL Eden touchdowns with 14 summers singing a few of those quick screens out there and I think typically when they throw those quick screens against this team they're going to throw it the Terrence Neumann side Terrence Newman number 23 he's had a great year this year but he tends to play off Xavier Rhodes on the other side tends to play and so that's where the screens will go 37 year old Tara now let's Cincinnati wrapping up his career here third down and the spread formation which is usually the read-option or some little skinny post route double stack that they give it to Jackson to the 25 so that old well no play this now saying is still third down Gooden hear the whistle but they got it off he trying to run it to get him a little closer very tight here there's the play clock yes you know and that's been an issue already in this game and but you saw how close that was Daniil hunter is one of the most athletic defensive ends that there is 4.57 great speed out there but that almost popped I would not be afraid to come back to that on the third third down and 16 they would have been in pretty good field goal position but right now you need some extra yard eggs on a frizzy day time to pick it up here to pass the purse about 30 so if you want to try a field going now from house gonna be about 47 yards know when to really speak of at this point and for the moment well the on offense is at least for the moment gonna stay out on fourth and 13 wow I guess they just determined that they could not kick the field goal from here so you're not certainly not gonna punt from the 30 so take your shot yeah I'm sure this would be a hard cow at the very least to get them on side it's for tonight but at least you opinion better shape for a field with nothing else we're gonna run it anyway for from 13 and bro Jackson's going to make the catch with the stacking up in the 23 and that's where the Minnesota Vikings will take over on downs captain Marlon makes the tackle 542 left in the opening half Minnesota 3 Seattle richard sherman mentors and provide school supplies to inner-city students through the Richard Sherman Family Foundation is the Seattle Seahawks nominated for the Walter Payton Man of the Year presented by nationwide awarded Superbowl weekend during the 5th annual NFL honors Sherman grew up in Compton California at Stanford Peterson around the left side first down in front of the Vikings bench KJ right with the tackle first and ten once again Michael Vinick going down hard inside so when he does that KJ Reich comes out but now they're starting to get blockers out in front of them so basically Khalil now is going to let Bennett go and go get KJ right the scraping linebacker to come around the outside so the Vikings now offensively starting to figure it out a little bit what Michael Bennett is doing Peterson is longest carry right there 13 carries little brawl for 30 yards so basically a good job the pass is caught Mike go through it makes the catch however a flag down and this one looks like it sir at the 43 yard line walk Coleman gets the call here it is these things penalty is declined played results in a first down that was Earl Thomas and the play resulted in an 18-yard game come out in this jumbo protection here bringing an offensive lineman here as a tight end and then it's Michael Pruitt who goes across the field working against kam chancellor and Michael Pruitt is a rookie but he ran four or five eight at the combine he is not the blocker in there even despite the fact that red Ellison not in the ballgame he is a receiving tight end and took advantage down the hill Bobby Wagner crowd of course wants a flagged group activity on the near fence no flip second down the new defensive coordinator for the Seattle Seahawks sa new in the sense that this is his first year Christmas sharp former defensive back I tell you what that's that's a stepping stone to a head coaching job because the first year they led in fewest points allowed in 2012 it led to Gus Bradley getting the head coaching job in Jacksonville then Dan Quinn the next couple of years was the defensive coordinator not the head coach in Atlanta Chris for sure gonna be pretty good on his resume as well that's like the pressure of that though you got a beat the league in scoring defense just to tie and he did it second down and nine little foot pass to Zach why he is taken down by Cliff Avril make it third down the annulled defense you go back into the last four years one one one one and one in fewest points allowed the last time team did that the Browns in 53 and 57 in a league that only had 12 teams last five Road games they've given up one offensive touchdown that was Palmer to Fitzgerald last week the only other touchdown was Patterson's run back in the game here when the score was 35 nothing it wasn't Tupelo though or whatever it is tackled back toward the 50 yard line Richard Sherman leading that charge so after a couple of good plays a Peterson run on the Pruitt reception they bogged down fourth and long and in comes the punting unit it's just one of those plays where they basically just go down to feel with the wide receivers to block Mike Wallace made the block but nothing out there Richard Sherman too good on the tackle descended down toward Rockets going to make the catch at the 9 yard dangerous there tentacled by sack line up at the 15 so 248 to the hand Sherman makes the tackle there these special teams as well quite nicely 3-nothing bike from Minneapolis walk our play off the rock to you by Microsoft Surface the official tablet of the NFL by subway and the turkey breast sandwich with no artificial preservatives by tax act while simple federal and state returns free maximum refund guaranteed but but like the official beer sponsor of the no timeouts Chris yeah mr. clock management you're the best at this one timeout for the Vikings none for Seattle and you know the Vikings would love to get it back and the Seahawks need to get points on the board so this time management is gonna be really interesting to watch give the two-minute warning in 48 seconds Seahawks deep in their own territory Doug Baldwin it's a short game mean of a couple Doug Baldwin played at Stanford so he was there with Andrew Luck he was here with Richard Sherman and he was okay he's played pretty well over the course of his career and then all of a sudden he exploded in the second half of this season it grew up in Florida both chefs played by far it's the coldest game you will ever play and he was a free agent we asked him last yesterday afternoon it's still long so only second and seven Kristen Michel up to the 20-yard line that's going to be third down now and five and it should take us to the two-minute warning and indeed it will where this is a points play coming up if the Vikings can get this ball bagged you figure we're gonna get points on the board they have one timeout third and five when we come back I have time coming up the D'Antoni Rodney nice and toasty back in the studio talking about the impact of Brussels we'll see what adjustments should be made Bob here with us on the surging the Washington Redskins ooh with the Green Bay Packers NFC game this afternoon after this one was over Fred Jackson is the back here on third down five the two minutes to play in the opening half Wilson with treating and he's going to go deep downfield and there's all kinds of contact two flags time to lock it interfered with by xaviar roads so they air it out the Seahawks do on a third down and five and you get the rookie Lockett who this season was their second leading receiver and roads making all kinds of Xavier roads had to get interference called on him because he never turned around to look nice job by the young receiver Tyler Lockett to at least try to come back to the ball and that's an easy call it's just really poorly played that time and that goes back to some of the issues that Savior Rhodes had earlier in the year when he was getting all those pass interference calls now you see why he's not getting his head around those anthony barn blasting wilson to be able to play it's a 41 yard penalty Fred Jackson Eric Hendricks rookie linebacker out of UCLA bar and Kendricks played together with the Bruins Deena - it will be second down and eight Darrell Bevell the offensive coordinator we've got this team despite all of the injuries on the right courts down the stretch listening to pressure and ball the fastest tip could it be third down and eight as good a play as I've seen from a linebacker all season Doug Baldwin a wide receiver is going to come over hesitate and then go watch right here in the middle of field Eric Kendricks not only saw it and stayed up with it but had the speed to run down Doug Baldwin and begged that play huge play by Eric Kendricks the Kendricks involved in the last two play setting up a third down and 23 Wilson Tech's are beginning to break down now notes and is knocked away Baldwin was there had a wing boarded the goal line sandé Oh came over along with Harris and Smith that thwart it and it's fourth down Russell oh got knocked back just a little bit in to Russell Wilson and now you called it perfectly this ball floated if it didn't float it was a touchdown you had everybody on that play and Russell Wilson who has tremendous arm strength maybe it was the cold maybe it was the contact in the pocket simply could not get it there here's Everson Griffin on the outside and you'll see okuni kick his legs back into Russell Wilson and it threw him off just a bit again the two snaps have been low from Gresham we have Ryan who had his nose bloody this time it's a good smile nose the ball is down to put some backspin on it and bounce it be attend and be dead at about the nine yard line so that sets Minnesota up with 63 seconds but only one timeout well hockey let's warm up and watch hockey on Wednesday as Patrice Bergeron to the Bruins take on claw zero and the Flyers when's the night rivalry hockey London be shooting that's hockey guys requiring the gang or in st. Paul ready for some wild devil's action tonight look at the time of possession early on it was all in the first quarter when Minnesota had the ball almost the entire quarter yeah we're gonna get the old take a knee here and Seattle had not wasted all those timeouts with the delay of game calls are almost delay a game called they could have had three timeouts here in which to maybe get the ball back but not good clock management throughout well only one time after Minnesota long field cold conditions and they'll be content to take that 3-nothing lead into the locker room and the Seattle Seahawks are going to get the ball as we start the second half I would imagine Mike Zimmer is absolutely thrilled with how this game is gone this is old school football this is take advantage of field position plunk the ball don't turn it over don't make big mistakes Mike Zimmer football to a tee well five weeks ago the team's met here at the half it was 20 to nothing Seattle in route to a 38 to 3-1 when it really matters now in the playoffs it's three nothing Minnesota at halftime again the Vikings with the wind go to Arizona Seattle if they win they go to Carolina come to the half sea horse good the second half kickoff to the halftime the temperature is -6 it only feels like it's minus 25 are the weather conditions a factor so far you have to say yes this is nationwide is on your side second half al michaels Cris Collinsworth and Michele Tafoya it's warming up it's not two below six below at kickoff that's the third coldest kickoff in postseason history ice ball in the freezer Bowl would be one two lowest going 1st half since Washington let Tampa Bay three nothing in January of 2000 the winner today Seattle wins they go to Carolina Sunday at Minnesota wins they go to Arizona on Saturday so this probably will be the final game the Vikings will play here I say probably conceivably if they get to the NFC Championship game and they are the highest remaining seed in other words if Carolina and Arizona both lost then they could host the NFC Championship game here otherwise next year it is on to the new dome the stadium in downtown Minneapolis which will be the site of Super Bowl 52 in two years so Seattle deferred so to stop the second half the dwarf shammy if you haven't seen that today let's go to Michelle well I spoke with Pete Carroll in half time he was surprisingly upbeat and he said some of the clock management issues that they had in the first half were due to problems with the headsets on the field and the inability to communicate clearly he thinks that's been cleared up and for as much as we were told by players to coming into this game that cold is cold he said it is an issue and one of the things he wants to focus on here in the second half converting on third down they were one of five on third down in the first out yeah that made a big difference Michelle on the other side Minnesota was two of seven so neither team with a lot of success in that area Seattle starts from the 20-yard line off the play fake Wilson's going to get spun down and tries to throw the ball away does he throw it forward shade green wait had him wrapped and then Greenway has the ball and walk Coleman it's a good call we'll come in and say he was he was dangerous crap but he definitely flipped it forward out of the pocket so once you do throw a pass once it gets the line of scrimmage no receiver is there and no eligible one anyway it's what they do to try and protect these quarterbacks and keep them in one piece giving that option frustrated after they see what you just saw second down and 10 from the 20 mr. Michael they're down 107 yards total passing in the first half so what should Seattle do why not come back to what's work best so far this read-option package just read the end in this case Everson Griffin he comes up for your quarterback just hand it off if he goes out if you're running back but Russell Wilson get involved in this game running the football strongest attributes and they desperately need him but now third down in gray law it's 107 passing yards for the two teams combined down at ten four-man rush pressure put on read by Doug Baldwin sensational catch on a third down and ten that was awesome watch this catch on third down and 10 you don't know if you're gonna get drilled in the back you don't know what's going to happen he comes down and keeps that drive alive Pete Carroll wants to convert some third downs superstars have to make plays in the playoffs there's your guy with 14 touchdown passes on the year that's how routine has that one handed catch become this year and this is Wilson keeping it and it falls down slips at the 41 yard line so I've got most of the ball run the two through the season the rating right there is the highest for any quarterback receiver duo in the National Football League and every time he's been targeted you take a look at the numbers overall and resulted in 14 touchdowns only two picks and we've seen this like every week now it was spectacular but remember Jimmy Graham got hurt so that meant Baldwin got some more opportunities when Marshawn Lynch and Thomas Rawls got hurt the running game was lesson so if it came down to Russell Wilson and Doug Baldwin and they carried this team was though Thomas giving them some love on the sideline Wilson sprinting away deep downfield in completing the tiger locket the attending receiver and tray wings their number one draft choice but a guy who's played a lot of special teams and that not that much defense this year breaking it up and the difference between what Xavier Rhodes did this time trae Waynes got his head around he gets his head around looks for the ball is there contact course there is and there's always going to be but you get your head around and that's going to be allowed that's a good no-call those guys going for the ball exactly it's a third down and six now opening drive of the second half 3-nothing Minnesota wakelock all the way down again Buffalo Bill has a first down so another third down conversion run out of bounds by Terrence Neumann at the Minnesota 47 yard line just the inside guy they don't have enough guys out here they've had to run a linebacker from inside on that mug package there's Brian Robinson trying to get out to the flat absolutely no way great job of Russell Wilson feeling that backside blitz that time from Harrison Smith they took advantage moved the pocket convert again and fall back he helps to lead the way Christian Michael nine inside the 42 the 39 yard line : leading the way second down and two two fullbacks really on this team along with will to cool off ooh here watch the bar is gonna step up and there's Derrick Coleman with a perfect block not only got great contact but declared aside to his running back and said listen go outside of here from the 39 and he will not pick up the first down Daniil hunter the rookie out of LSU who is the youngest player in the league turned 21 just around Halloween time makes the stop third down in one chase Hoffman trying to block him but with a revelation he has been six sacks on the year so now another big third down conversion here and this is one you could actually take a chance if you wanted to because probably would be four down territories if you wanted to take some kind of a shot here nice opportunity and Michael is going to get wrapped up Sheree Floyd did not let him get out of his tracks number one pick back in 2013 just splits right between the two offensive linemen between JR Sweezy and Garry Gilliam and that is just a huge play you try and go conservative think you got two shots to run the ball and just like the Vikings did earlier you lose yardage lost to makes it fourth down and three offense stays in three receivers look to the right one they pocket to at one and again they've gotta call a timeout and Michelle talking about peach said they had communication issues in the first half apparently not rectified or they're just sluggish slowing getting on the line slow and getting to the line but they had a huge opportunity there because Minnesota was completely unsettled on the back end they've got people running on and off the field three wide receivers if I remember correctly out to the right hand side they could have had a layup for a first down and they just simply couldn't get the ball snapped in time here they are and you can see them they're running guys in and out there's no way they're going to be able to protect against that instead squander a timeout it's one thing to lose time acts in the first half not that critical second half a whole other story especially in two three nothing game you know in this offense struggled earlier in the year but really has just been so red-hot lately and maybe it's the cold and I'm having a hard time explaining it but this just does not look like what we've seen out of the Seahawks in the second half of the seas maybe it's the Vikings defenses give them a little credit for sure that's converted to third downs on this the opening drive of the second half trying to convert a fourth down one comes into the backfield and Wilson under pressure look out from behind throws tip intercepted at the 24-yard trae Waynes apply a number one draft choice back to the 45-yard line chase Kaufman was the intended receiver wanes with the Pitt Minnesota gets the ball near midfield we find 49 ago when we're done on Fox there's the Fox music for you the Packers and the Redskins back in six playoff berth since 2010 Redskins have been on the bow season since 2012 so it is it's minus 2 here feels like minus 16 it's 44 in Seattle and for our friend Joe Buck and Troy Aikman I looked it up it is 61 degrees in Landover Ireland by old partners live in the light the old horses there come on it's a 63 degree difference between Minneapolis and Landover and gels don't get called yeah after the pick Minnesota starts to the 46 yard line will the slides went out to Zack wine full-back has an 11-yard game flag down Wagner makes the tackle flag down all the way back at the 36 yard line if these are ten at the end of the play first down the favor oh boy you're gonna hit them hit them this is a little shove from Bennett navel and knock him down and that is big this has to be one of those games now that defensively you start to get frustrated the only thing that Seattle's defense is given up is when the punter dropped the ball and had to run it they got the field goal out of that so they've been great so far in this game but here they are now back inside the 30-yard line and you could just feel the confidence growing not just with this crowd but on the field for the Vikings as well and only takes the ball down to the Seattle 28 bridgewater 10 of 14 through the year today for 80 yards leadership runs into a stack and is tackled at the 25 off we go to Michele well Mike Zimmer told me at halftime his offense had too many negative plays putting them in some bad situations he wants to see them be a little more patient and have Adrian Peterson he said he's facing extra defenders at the line all game long and that makes it tough for him to run downhill but he said I guarantee you he's gonna hit one eventually guys well he's a 34 yards on 15 carries so far is ap longest was 13 sets up deep as he always does here on second down and seven from the 25 swinging to the outside and that's cliff Averill so he had that personal foul loses his helmet but throws Peterson to the ground for a loss of seven yards and this move has been eating up these viking tackles all day cliff Averell is going to duck inside TJ Clemons on this one and just beat him right to the punch and he's going to beat the speedy Adrian Peterson before he can get out there on the edge and so now they push this thing back probably outside a fueled goal range but who knows the way that Blair Walsh kicked off he can kick it in this goal third and 14 if they don't get a yard here the better a 50-yard attempt we're receivers all to the left looking over the middle moon throwing and McKinnon makes the catch and is still on his feet and then he's taken down at about the 25 so you're looking at about a forty three yard attempt right now to make it six to nothing about halfway through the third quarter only scoring in the game off the foot of Blair Walsh earlier it was a 22 yard little chip shot spot this one at the 34 so it's going to be a 40 make it 43 yard attempt put it down at the 33 yard line made six over 50 this year your attempt into the Frigidaire is perfect 704 remaining at the third quarter in this wild carp next Sunday soccer two story teams of the Premier League Liverpool hosting Manchester United we could coverage beginning Saturday morning hostess sundel Premier League weekend on NBCSN the commissioners here in the elements Roger Goodell watching Minnesota against Seattle first two two NFC Wow this Sunday with the touchback 704 left in the third six to nothing place written waves lead the way foundation brightens stays for kids at seven children's hospitals by providing video games and laptop sees the Vikings nominee for the Walter Payton Man of the Year presented by nationwide which will be awarded Super Bowl weekend during the 5th annual NFL is good guy good career will talk baby may be wrapping it up and yeah I get the feeling they may spend one more year he's having fun right now for sure siamo starting now from the 20-yard line well you actually look at a verse in Griffin ten and a half sacks led the team and he envelops Russell Wilson what a great move by Emerson Griffin on the outside he's going to fake a spin move right here and then go the other way so Russell oh is coming off that calf injury had no idea and I think the Russell Wilson kind of turned and was gonna peel out of their head just took one right in the face pass if anything al this game looks like the reverse of the game these two teams played all these second down and long situations yep was all about Griffin II recruited him Griffin plateform at USC second down at the 7-yard line Sharif Floyd who made a big play the last time Seattle had the ball knocks it down it's really interesting what we're seeing most teams don't do this they're rusting brushing behind Russell Wilson because he wants to escape backwards you've seen him so many times this year back up and look what the Vikings are doing - they're getting in behind him he typically does not step up and throw he wants to escape backwards the Vikings strategy in this one is to get behind him and it's paying off victim coming in the back door and 23 we'll take the ball back to the 20 that's a gain of 13 but another punt for coming Wow I mean this is an offense that has overcome so much this year the loss of their first two running backs now two tight ends Luke Wilson not playing in this game or Jimmy Graham Russell Wilson Doug Baldwin took over and has played so well and now they're getting shut out by the fifth scoring defense in the NFL we saw aggression the snapper he's had two short snaps Brian who did the face plan in the first half this one this snap is good Wanda Gerald's is back to take it in line and a flag it's wrong though could be a horse collar on Derrick Coleman so Coleman was able to corral him but then draws the flag Diego isn't it amazing out there are so many games on the outside this was sort of considered a laugher right personal foul horse Skyler tackled number 23 with the kicking team 15-yard penalty first down Boggs ain't laughing at the moment 6-nothing Minnesota this walk our playoff game being brought to you by Southwest transparency look there's nothing to hide by McDonald's celebrating the NFL playoffs with breakfast all day by nationwide nationwide is on your side by Chevrolet find new rules congratulations Caledonia high school winning the Vikings first ever to stop high school football program 48 yard line Vikings begin here with the first is not very far so the Minnesota Vikings you know it's so interesting we know about Bruce Arians in Arizona looked like he was finished and of course he's been the coach in the or two of the last three years that team the number two seed then this Mike Zimmer longtime assistant protege of Bill Parcells finally gets a break turned out pretty good so far and he talks to Parcells all the time about strategy like last week when he did the fake punt he was saying that that really came from Parcells of something he did before the Super Bowl here as Jerry is right was covered by Richard Sherman and Richard Sherman look like a crab the Jersey look like he grabbed the Jersey and pulled himself forward on the tail end of this let's see I'm not here but right here as he stops can't really see it right there his arm is Jersey something but you could see his body get propelled forward and it's been one of those kind of days for everybody involved here with this Seattle team 39 Zimmer was at Dallas for two decades went through a lot of coaches down there Cham Geylang and Dave Campo built ourselves there it was under Bill and he went to Atlanta for one you go see your Bobby Petrino left the team toward the end of the season then on to Cincinnati and that worked out pretty well for him when were Marvin Lewis and that led to the job here in Minnesota he actually thought at that point two years ago he might have gotten the Tennessee job I thought he was going to get the Titans job almost didn't take that second interview in Minnesota but did and here he is second the name to give the ball to Diggs on the inside Thomas a couple yards shy of the first down they go back with that jumbo package Austin Shepard an extra offensive lineman in the game and then they go with the jet sweep away from it so that's twice now last time they got in that package they threw the ball to Mike hole through it this time to run the jet sweep so they come out in a power run formation and give you a bit of a gimmick less than three to go now in the third quarter and just at the cusp of field goal range will get third down and two changes Diggs makes the catch a little outside move first down I'll tell you what a year this kid Stefon Diggs has had he has simply come up big for them the entire year their leading receiver second only in the NFL this year to Amari Cooper as far as yards for a rookie and he was the 21st wide receiver drafted a whole bunch of swings and misses on that guy fifth round pick played his college ball at Maryland and back to the workhorse Peterson to the 24-yard line we go to Michelle you were talking to my about Mike Zimmer Terrence Newman has known him for over 13 years longer than he's known any other coach and he thinks Zimmer was the most overlooked coach in the NFL Newman told me Zimmer should have been a head coach a long time ago he's very knowledgeable very detailed passionate he loves his family loves his players and he just loves football out and Michelle he had a chance to be the University of Nebraska head coach at a time when he was on the Dallas staff and he passed up that opportunity but eventually it did come around and right now his team with a six nothing lead and the playoffs and they give it from the kidding and he'll get written down at the 23 yard line you know the one thing that stuck out to me about the conversation with Parcells this week is that he said you just preach confidence to your guys at this point you know everybody had sort of given all the Vikings they have no chance in this game Seattle's red-hot the team nobody wants to play all that kind of stuff and all week long he has been preaching we can do this guys we got this you know what happened to us our defensive guys were hurt in the first game we can do this if we play our style of game and they have play their style perfectly so far much the same message last week in Green Bay when they went in there and won the North on third and six Bridgewater able to stand up at first but then he went down at the 30-yard line and those are a big six yards right there cliff Averell was there making it fourth down and turning this now into what will be about a 47-yard field goal attempt that was one that was too bad that's the one thing they thought they could get on Richard Sherman some of those stop routes especially with Mike Wallace but it is Michael pennant again that was not going to give Teddy Bridgewater long enough to take a look so in the waning seconds of the quarter 47-yard field goal attempt right down the middle two seconds left in the third nine to the thing Vikings as usual the Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon all week on NBC with as usual ray of star-studded guests night show the general week as you look down upon to see a bank statement problem the University of Minnesota Gophers whereas Michelle likes to say the gooferz Donald and Hillary on the same week about that we found that's back here with two seconds to go in the quarter all right let's take a look at some of these field goals a lot going on Blair Walsh had to kick with the laces dead towards him most kickers absolutely hated I think he actually got under the laces though with that kick and then on the last one it was Richard Sherman who came within a hangnail of blocking this one if he had laid out on this one it's possible look at this almost hard to believe he didn't touch it there was no space whatsoever between his hand and the ball that close to a turnaround play for Seattle Sherman gets warm on the sideline offense has to find something they've been blanked at this point Seattle has only seven first downs in the game they have only 126 yards in the game totally different story from five weeks ago and they dominated and Wilson starts with a pass up the play fake and that's Kevin Smith for a 15-yard gain and that's going to take us to the end of the third quarter so 15 to go in regulation 9 nothing is the score this wildcard playoff on NBC after these messages aerial coverage brought to you by Geico downtown Minneapolis right there Al Michaels Cris Collinsworth Michele Tafoya and partially close and Mississippi River as well there of course is the new dome Stadium the Vikings will inhabit next year under construction and we come back to start the fourth quarter here TCF Bank Stadium on the campus of the University of Minnesota he was points in the first three quarters of the playoff game sheets lay too first time here Russell Wilson has time and completely tyler lockett the intended receiver trae Waynes seen a lot of action in on the play but a flag is down on the other side of the field and Wayne's is signaling to the bench that he needs to come out for a woman brighter past illegal contact number 24 defense five-yard penalty automatic first down it's away from the play captain muddling now working in the slot captain Marlin was just trying to stay locked on to Doug Baldwin two guys that know each other well in this contact just a little bit too far down the field gets called correctly say if I'm Pete Carroll at this point or Darrell Bevell I would have told Russell Wilson listen no more sliding you got to take over the game if you have to run the football and put your head down this is it and also tell him John Robinson number 21 is number three on the depth chart at that spot is in there and we go to Michelle well Trey Wayne's taking himself out and Terence Newman has now been downgraded to questionable with an ankle injury he had tried it on the previous defensive possession came back out in that question of allow Michelle there is Wayne so as we mentioned Josh Robinson fourth-year guy at a central Florida I was victim the third round in 2012 and obviously the Seattle Brain Trust will notice that he trails walk at his Lockett goes in motion and coverage second down and seven and Wilson's go away get away get bumped out of bounds about a yard to have short of the first down broke away from Harrison Smith it'll be third down a short two that was a good job by Josh Robinson on that one they were gonna try and sneak lock it all the way back across the formation but one thing you cannot underestimate with Robinson here he's going to come he sees it and gets out there in front of it and takes away that easy throw but Josh Robinson ran for three three at the combine so he can fly he may be inexperienced but he is plenty athletic enough the stain would lock it outside to bring in the full-back Coleman to front Kristen Michael the shrine he goes and that's the first time before Greenway takes them out of bounds and now once you start getting Russell Wilson on the edge like that things are going to start opening up now that you make that defense expand and play sideline to sideline with the mobility of Wilson for Darrell Bevell now he can start thinking about some of those inside runs and maybe some stretch plays we haven't seen in this game some basic parts in this offense that you wonder how much they were able to practice this week because Marshawn Lynch got from the 39 yard line whoops whoa high snap off his shoulder Wilson just started get away making the conscious time unlock it and locking us inside the 20 and Tyler Lockett gets strung down at the 40-yard line so broken play a snap that gets away and Wilson makes the most of it and it's a first and goal absolutely unbelievable the difference and watch the fact that none of the offensive linemen go down field so many times on a bus to play like this they will go down the field and lock it all alone everybody gets distracted on something like that it's unbelievable isn't it out and playoff football they were gonna run a screen on the outside they weren't even running around gigantic but meanwhile the officials fell down and you've got Kristen Michael he takes the ball to the 2 yard line to make it second down and goal so here's an offense going nowhere fast and they finally get there huge play nice job by Tyler Lockett to realize what was going on found an opening into zone and Russell Wilson found him football is a funny game sometime second down and goal first coming across the formation listen on that roll throws Clark touchdown Doug Baldwin guess who he's a guest when you go to a number three cornerback he will be in the crosshairs they were having so much trouble throwing the ball out of the pocket they had sort of solved the riddle of Russell Wilson with the way he was backing up in those drop back passes so what does Darrell Bevell do let's get him out of the pocket let's go get him on the edge and since then this offense started working and all of a sudden the crowd is very quiet as a nine nothing lead is nine six going on nine seven they get Ryan to hold remember he was shaken up earlier posture for the extra point rush him to snap it missed a few of these five in fact this season but this one is good with 1137 to go in regulation Carol all smiles but could have been a disaster turns out to be a gold mine 97 partnering I bet you thought your fantasy league season was over yeah but you do it's not you can play for free you can win a trip to Super Bowl 51 thank goodness you tell me that there you go nfl.com slash playoff challenge join today crushed and famous and footballers baby what a game this has turned out to be temperature Oh Freddy is it to still one to the long one belong it's minus two so what we get to zero is the question so we'll keep calm this is getting good though take off you're gonna go Patterson very dangerous but the coverage is outstanding as he gets taken down at the 21 yard line by Michael Morgan's back we go to some key place here there's always little subplots here Captain Mon Orland came on a blitz off the edge and on that play you don't need a big hit you just want to contain him just don't let him get outside of you there's no way he's going to pick it up and be able to make any kind of play like that he goes in tries to get the big play and Russell Wilson is he can do gets up escapes and a game-changer Hendrix took him to the ground as you found the open man Minnesota at the 22 yard line Sherman top of the screen on press coverage here last time of the faithful Peterson Eve Bobby Wagner making the tackle along with KJ right after a gain of five second and five they had a little something going down the field that time to Stephan Dix as well on that deep / crossing route somebody in the press box is saying okay next first down we may take another look at that watch as he comes all the way across the field Sherman drops him and there's really nobody around so that's Diggs is trying to go okay Hartley might be cool somebody upstairs saw that one Diggs will line up wide to the left ear Mike Wallace going in motion to the outside here is there Sherman says Seattle has it and they do so Adrian Peterson they go to him back to back on past plays and he coughs this one up and that puts the antal in great shape the old Bugaboo for Adrian Peterson the fumble comes back to haunt plenty of time gets by KJ right and then it's kam chancellor stripping that ball out just an unbelievable turn of events in this game the top of Rubin comes out of it with the football we saw that fumble last week it was actually more of a problem on the handoff and Green Bay they got away with that one as they recovered it but not this time and that gives Seattle the football the 40 yard line you know al I go back to a broadcast John Madden once did I think with you in which those black rubber sleeves right come on green yeah and there goes they got a slide right out of there and Bill Parcells was talking to Zimmer about some different equipment things you want to do not do but Adrian Peterson that's what he typically wears so at the 40 on the short field Wilson going for the kill shot here and it is incomplete that time it was Savior Rhodes what a good chance to intercept it and Tyler Lockett almost had to turn into a defensive back going downfield and you can see these black rubber sleeves out there and of course it's not raining it's not cold but conditions are different and if you do get that ball moving just a little bit in there sometimes that can be the difference nice job by kam chancellor what a different Spangler he is I can remember once he came back after that two-game holdout missed the last three games because of pelvis injury we'll fix the ball to the 37 the irony is with Minnesota on the offensive side they hadn't thrown to Peterson all day then they go to him back to back and he fumbles now and Linville Joseph in there the guy that missed the first matchup between these two ends up making that play he has been without question their best interior of defensive lineman pretty big play right here I don't think he attempt a 55 yards field ghost was a third down and seven we're Pete Carroll's good fred jackson flanking wilson in the backfield Jermain person they're going to give him forward progress inside the 30 and that's a first down three Wayans with the coverage really nice play by curse on the stop and then watch how he extends his arms to make this catch he'll stick his arms straight out reach out for it and still maintain just enough for the first down good shot by Russell Wilson needed seven got eight ball twenty-nine Michael is the running bag they take again Wilson back in the 45 and then fires of that abounds chased by Everson Griffin that is as good a play as you can make that was going to be a 20-yard loss if he can't get the ball out of his hand you can see ever cigrip and trying to get to the football he's got a bootleg naked bootleg they just think Wilson's going to beat this guy one-on-one Griffin stays just dead with him can't get his hands on the arm or the football and Russell Wilson just saved 20 yards not booing like crazy but once you're out of the pocket that is legal and he was certainly out of the pocket threw it away he put on him today 2nd down and 10 with nine minutes to go in regulation to the right side but not for much I'd say a lentil Joseph inside he's so hard to reach Patrick Lewis was given in his best shot this guy right here is a monster he's been hurt for about the last month or so but man when I put on some tape of him earlier in the year just completely dominant and it's like now he's gone back into form a bit former New York giant third down nine eight and a half left get another yard here he'd be looking at about a forty six yard field goal in a two-point game Wilson out of the pistol the pressure was put on insanity bring in Hauschka one of the best for a field goal that would give you the lead remember they didn't go for about a 47 yarder the other way but what little win there is is blowing behind house could now 46 yard attempt 13 field goal attempts in postseason play and he's made them all Ryan will hole this to give Seattle the lead otherwise Minnesota gets the ball at the 36 Gresham to snap it and Houska has just given Seattle the lead so it took them until almost halfway through the fourth quarter but Seattle is on top well Adrian Peterson pretty expressive on the sidelines knowing but just has taken place the fumble setting up the house could lead changing field goal fumble again right there is it was stripped by Chancellor recovered by Rubin and it's tendency Apple two yards deep - and good run back to the 33 yard line Vikings with the ball down by one when we come back this NFC wild card playoff game brought to you by the Kia Sorento built for football families by Miller Lite the original lite beer it's another time is a prime of free today shipping on millions of items by UnitedHealthcare help make the system simply - - is the temp - warmer we're getting there - the 32-yard line goes Petersons to the outside and except for that one run he almost lost it again he had 113 yard run apart from that and you've got an injured Seahawk it's Michael Bennett who's down take a look at this again so with the late in the fourth quarter last week pretty amazing Adrienne able to get that back into his hands but big news down on the field is that Michael Bennett mm-hmm he came in with the toe injury been battling that for a while so second and 9 when we come back oh you're looking at the Grand Canyon because next Saturday night we will be Glendale Arizona another two-hour drive south the great site the Arizona Cardinals hosting either the Minnesota Vikings or the winner of the Green Bay Washington game it follows this thing that's next Saturday night on NBC second down and nine and Bridgewater slipping and down he goes and that's Bobby Wagner who comes in for the sack so after Bennett had to come off the field and was replaced by Dobbs Wagner comes flying through the middle for the big sack Jerick McKinnon right here gonna try and pick up this blitz inside but just can't get back in front a Bobby Wagner very athletic guy at table Aruban coming in with pressure as well so everything here late in this game going against the Minnesota Vikings and as much as you want to go for it here this is an opportunistic Seattle defense don't hang then it gets back in the game miss just one play to 9-yard sack it's a she takes the ball to the 37 yard line but they will have to kick on fourth down as the clock rolls down a six and a half left in the fourth or you go back to the Miss snap on the part of Seattle turning into the big play and then the fumble by Adrian Peterson we've looked at a couple replays Peterson didn't have his hand anywhere close to over the point of the ball so an easy strip by cam Chancellor to plays just completely change this game so of about six minutes to go Seattle is going to get the ball back chance to chew up some of the clock lots Punk is a wobbly one at the 31 yard line by Tyler Lockett of course here are the key please in the 4th did the miss snap and then brilliance on the part of Russell Wilson to get up escape captain Marlin and then all play find them Tyler lock it down the field Doug Baldwin for the touchdown and then Adrian Peterson without his hand without his fingers over the tip of the ball Chancellor strips it out and just like that what look like a very safe lead for the Minnesota Vikings and his Vikings defense playing so well completely you flipped around now we'll see if Russell Wilson and begin to chew up some plot here with 553 remaining in looking down the stretch of course Minnesota has all three timeouts and that's when a warrant time to panic but we've helped them a lot if they can stop them it's a beginning to this it's a gainer almost six for Kristen Michael on to the 37 yard line the bracket now in the NFC seahawks six so they have to play all road games Vikings three Packers Redskins to follow on Fox at 4:40 Eastern Time Panthers waiting at home to play Sunday against the lowest seed remaining if Seattle wins that it will be them in the Cardinals play the highest remaining seed could be the by he's a second and four system Michael it's after the 40-yard line so let's play we run under five minutes to go pretty important third and warm now and the play that's been there the most consistently all day has been handing the ball off on that read option to Everson Griffin's side just wash everything down and then he has to decide his Russell Wilson running it or is the running back running it we're not really in that set here looks like more of a power set here sensing the importance of this with that clock whine down through the water whoops the fake it's going to be almost intersected but they're gonna be forced to punt Sandia almost came up with it but still they hold him on a three in out fourth down completely messed up from the beginning though Russell Wilson thought he was faking to his left both backs went to the right and so there's nobody to fake to so all this play action really doesn't work on third down and one and then Cindy Howe just misses one right in his hands to make a big play going the other way so Ryan to punt the regression had those two early low snaps that's perfect pink is a duck be free at the 14 yard line and dine we were down right there so for 14 remaining now let's take a look at the AFC bracket Chiefs routing the Texans yesterday and you all know about the steal of Bengal game last night the craziness there so it's all set for next week Saturday is the Chiefs and the Patriots on CBS and Steelers Broncos on CBS next Sunday the Seahawks actually touched the ball at the 19 yard line instead of the 14 so a five yard break their 143 total yards the Vikings are averaging only 3.1 yards per play in this game so they've gotta get something out of somebody from the 19 yard line Dena's six takes it up to the 25-yard line tackled by Jeremy lien and that's a nice combination that's how they sort of started this game by flaring McKinnon out drawing the underneath coverage that way and then tucking it in behind to step on Dix but remember that putt not being caught by Cheryl's cost them valuable field position they're way too deep on our second three carries on an inside gift master the 32 and now we're down to about three and a half to play and how about Adrian Peterson not in the game now with everything on the line the rushing champion on the sidelines after that fumble maybe because they felt like they were gonna have to throw it but MacKinnon a very good option remember him in the Giants game that 68 yard touchdown whatever that was very capable as a runner - he has come on in the latter stages of the season week 10 rolling the line of scrimmage will be second down and 10 that's Michael Bennett Michael Bennett right inside here he's just gonna try and rush feel he's not gonna get there then get that big left hand up there to knock it down Teddy Bridgewater low release on his past delivery we've done that in the past they've been at an opportunity second down and ten get down of the 26-yard line so they bring the heat KJ Wright comes in Bruce Irvin exalts on the play watch the coverage down the field but once that first look isn't there and it really looked like Diggs was going to be open on that one on the outside just didn't see it but Bridgewater has to know after playing these guys in the past that if he doesn't hit his back foot and throw and he's going to take a sack third and 16 Bridgewater at the shoulder shake keep that away Jeremy lien whose name we really hadn't called until the last couple of minutes able to make a big play banging away from Stefan Diggs and they are so happy to have Jeremy Lane back again remember him he got the interception in the Super Bowl hurt his knee broke his arm all those things came back his first play this year was also an interception against Pittsburgh he's gotten better every week it makes one of the biggest plays of the game right there so fourth and 16 they have to find of course they can stop the clock now with all three timeouts and the two-minute warning hurry Fields at the zone 20 and just goes down into 25 sure he secured the ball well Russell Wilson on a posh snap picks it up makes captain Marlon miss and just one of those plays that you see in the playoffs every once in a while that you'll never forget and then Russell Wilson they got him out of the pocket remember all the trouble he had when they were getting the rushers in behind him and he was trying to escape backwards there you go there's the guy that for three quarters not much and beat Carroll knew just keep giving him opportunities and eventually he would make plays that boy could they use a few right now so you have to 13 you have three timeouts there will be four clock stoppages but a first ad would be huge here and two first downs within the game and then see without them and he'll take it to the 30-yard line they'll take a timeout here on the front side of the two-minute warning Pete Carril trying to join this group teams to play in three or more consecutive Super Bowls we had the Dolphins the perfect season was in the middle there they lost the first one won the next two then you go back to the 90s and Marv levy in that great group there and went to four Super Bowls in a row only to lose them all because the most critical one was the first one the 47-yard field goal by Scott Norwood was wide to the right but a great run by that team nothing delete two more of levy getting into the Hall of Fame but grant another guy who lost four Super Bowls he's in the Hall of Fame Pete Carroll has been to two Super Bowls already won one of course in a route over Denver and who could forget last year but this is a team that has blown five fourth-quarter leads this year so Pete Carroll far from comfortable right here Russell Wilson slowly makes his way back into that huddle and this is big they tried to throw that pass and he'd made an audible on the last third and one before Sean Lynch is in here you know what you get right now we'll see stuff would still be a choice second down ships hit the wall to the 31-yard line and that takes us to the two-minute warning I'm not sure what Nicole takes time out before the two-minute warning I would have saved you a couple of seconds anyway two-minute warning back into this Volkswagen postgame report following the game Michelle on the field stars of the game Bob Devlin Rodney break it all down look ahead to next week's divisional playoff action now don't forget the umpire in this situation into the game right behind the defense here so sometimes lover guys like Doug Baldwin can use him as a pick to get open many times third and five Wilson throws he's in front of the bench in flag is on the play as it was intended would look like walk it along the sidelines with a flag is thrown Garry Gilliam pass incomplete right out here and as Russell Wilson scrambled to the right bar was going to come off and Gilliam just held him right there and it was flagged and here you go and I tell you once again I'm not so sure that Marcus Cheryl's isn't too deep these kicks have not been going this far right he's all the way back at his own 30 yard line lose 50 yards from the line of scrimmage and this is a kick to the far side and Cheryl who collected at the 30 long a sideline and bring it back about the six or seven yards so the Vikings have two timeouts personally really have to do is get into field goal range with 142 remaining and the positive aspect of this now is that obviously everything is for down territory so you can change up what you're doing you're still going to want to milk your way through this clock as well two timeouts the clock really should not be a factor for Minnesota they have Peterson back in the game Wolfe staying loose along the sidelines for what he hopes will be a lead changing field goal attempt that he really liked as an extra point first things first the ball at the 39 yard line tipped at the line of scrimmage in Clark Frank's Park number 55 the rookie at Michigan well Frank Clark's going to get it but Michael Bennett's gonna be the one to cause that they simply cannot get a finger on Michael Bennett inside it has been unbelievable that time he ran right through Mike Harris watch this move and Mike Harris is one of their better linemen up front begin that low release coming back to haunt didn't Bridgewater six guys a lot along the line for Seattle second down and ten 138 blitz coming Bridgewater fires bucola flag comes in and Chancellor with his arms up at Kyle Rudolph will be the beneficiary of passionate Ference there he is back here and rudolf coming right up the field tries to make a move inside sort of gets grabbed i thought that he got away with one little earlier in the game did not get away with that one and basically rudolf has been a non-factor didn't catch a fall last week is yet to catch one here but that was big ball at the 42 yard line 94 seconds remaining advantage of the 20 yard line broke away from Chancellor so far up and out there's chancellor right there Rudolph big strong hands and if you're going to go in front of the receiver as cam Chancellor did there you better get the ball because otherwise in man coverage there's nobody around to make the tackle the tight end the Pro Bowl MVP a couple of years ago their second leading receiver first catch of the day at the most opportune time and now Seattle the two timeouts has to start thinking about what they're going to do the innocent in the back view of the play clock is down to one second in the Vikings take a timeout they have won will the Seahawks very uncharacteristically this season fourth quarter losses week one overtime Rams week two there was a Sunday night er at Green Bay lost of the Bengals in overtime had the lead in the fourth quarter week five lost to the Panthers of the fourth quarter lead there then in the Arizona game they were down 19 nothing took the lead and that Arizona came from behind a wintered at the end so the six losses this season in five of them they had the lead in the fourth quarter yeah and the last game of last year was that so for Pete Carroll it's been a tough go but boy this is old school football this is but I'm reminded of when I was a kid all the breath and the you can see how cold the players are and yet the execution pretty good Russell Wilson's made so many dynamic plays it has been Michael Bennett inside and you can't make the big mistake here I can't imagine anything but blondes were especially with the Sun beginning to go down as you can see and the receivers would look back into the sunshine especially to the right side shuri secures it and you can stop there for a game with one they do such a good job this entire game of just sitting in those gaffes don't get overly excited you see so many times that Adrian Peterson will jump around but watch how they just stand right there nobody's chasing them nobody's looking to do something outside of their gap just stay home and if you don't give them those jump cuts there just hasn't been much there all day for Adrian Peterson Seattle has to take a timeout they're second they had to squander one very early when the play clock ran down in the third quarter that would be beneficial to them right now they have one more time out remaining Minnesota of course doing everything to keep the football set Blair walks up for what would be a lead changing field goal and then the best Seattle can hold for at that point would be to get the ball back with about a half a minute or so in no timeouts well you have to have them burn that last timeout anything but a right here would be an absolute stunner second and nine 13 yard line goes Peterson that will take us to 115 and their final timeout so many times the game can come down to one-on-one matchups it was Kyle Rudolph against kam chancellor to get the pass interference on the first one get the drive started and then the out route on the next one Chancellor tries to undercut it and Rudolph gets away and is set up what is going to be steamy finish that is a great shot welcome to Jupiter well we finally got to zero I told you to meet up today wow what a game wild and wacky like so many of these playoff games have been over the past few seasons in particular so Peterson is in there you got a third down and four to get the first one they can take the clock all the way down to the end Peterson he's about a yard short of the first down so it's fourth down and now they're compelled to kick with field goal had to got in the first nine of course they could have taken it all the way down and kicked a game-ending field goal but now we're gonna line up anyway apparently - I just gotta wait and I'll just wife all around here I don't think they're going through this one I think so of course if you're Seattle and you've got a punt block play that you've been saving remember a field goal block remember how close Richard Sherman came to the last yes he did final timeout watch his kicks today on a day where any kick is not easy hit a chip shot 22 yarder and this one underneath the laces he went to kick the forty three orders the 47-yard are made to score nine to nothing the Seattle overtime ten nine lead now at 26 seconds so if the kick is good Seattle's going to get the ball with maybe 21 or 22 seconds Richard Sherman almost got the last one out and sometimes the special teams coach will say make sure you get Sherman and the guy inside of Sherman can jump in that gap so it's going to be a very dangerous sign off to the kickers right side off the Blair washes right hand side 27 yard attempt Jeff watt is the holder yeah go figure no good not even close let's look at these laces one more time Jeff Locke the holder is going to try and put it down and bingo looking right back at the kicker and I'm telling you psychologically sometimes that can get a kicker but there's no way to practice making a 3-foot putt to win the Masters and there's no way to practice the pressure of a game-winning playoff field goal unbelievable and so the Seahawks have run the whole gamut in their last two postseason games total misery in Glendale Arizona last February and the fates were with him today in Minneapolis amazing Seattle goes to Carolina and the winner of the Green Bay Washington game goes to Arizona 10 to 9 the final lock the holder his laces became a factor not earlier but they did late oh my goodness this one do you think you've seen everything you have it stunning I'll say once more 27 yarder easy right the Seattle Seahawks stay alive let them win two more road games to get to the Super Bowl one down and appear to go skiing Chancellor Thomas and all the rest and off they go to Charlotte next Sunday 10 9 the final Volkswagen postgame report coming right up
