welcome to the Infinity college basketball tip-off from Colonial Life arena in Columbia South Carolina another sellout and today first place is on the line as Kentucky visits 21 and three South Carolina there's a three-way tie atop the top of the SEC standings South Carolina can put itself in the driver's seat with a win today as they play host to Kentucky LSU's sitting right there among the best and welcome court said everybody Tom Horne alongside Carroll Lawson what a remarkable season it's been hear from Frank Martin's Gamecocks and they get a chance to make another statement today think about this in eight days they have the opportunity they've already been A&M on the road they beat LSU you beat Kentucky and now all of a sudden you're the favorite to win the SEC regular season a remarkable turnaround on this program by Frank Martin they haven't won a conference title since 1997 it's theirs for the taking and for Kentucky Tyler Ulis has been their leader all season he has assisted or scored on 45% of their buckets in conference play in my opinion the most important players this team in the SEC and yes that includes LSU's Ben Simmons he's their leader they look to him he's on the court nearly every minute he's going to have to play big tonight navigating those ball screens in this South Carolina pressure defense on the flip side for South Carolina's undertsand Darius thorn well 49 points in the last two games a rugged physical guard that thrives on getting to the free-throw line South Carolina's edge in this game as their physicality you can expect Thornwell to bring that it's been a crazy week in the Mid State when we return Kaylee Heartsong will tell us more about this has been the nfinity tip-off now let's see what happens when coaches hit the racetrack for this year's infinity coaches Charity Challenge another full house here in Columbia this [Applause] it's campaign week here in the state of South Carolina the best job in the state ticket scalper for more on that let's check in with Kaylee hearts [Applause] this week started on Monday when the women's basketball team sold out for their first time ever did you find this [Applause] Saturday's men's games against Florida let's also mention our calacatta cons over here last night we juicer Darius Rucker singing national anthem and of course we would be remiss not to say that all lives of the political world has shifted South Carolina now that we're past a New Hampshire primary the Republican primary in South Carolina next Saturday the Democratic primary the weekend after that sports music politics they have got it all in South Carolina for a David thank you so much here's a look at the starting lineups the strength for Kentucky in their backcourt Tyler Ulis with white card joined by Isaiah Briscoe and Jamal Murray points a day and I'll be Marcus Lee and Derek Willis inside a in line up for South Carolina the lone exception their freshman point guard PJ Dozier joined bison Daris Cornell mundaka sketchiness McCaskill era has been remarkable for Frank Martin the season and Chris Silva's moved in the starting lineup that is a team made in the mold of their head coach they are tough they might be scratching bra and it has John Calipari concern tonight doesn't look like he has a concern in the world right now seventh season as a head man at Kentucky 208 wins against 44 losses [Applause] [Music] [Music] [Applause] [Music] single-digit Marcus Lee new uniform tonight is one zero will chuck it's a third straight shot here she's up for silver Cirie's they've won 49 it's just a living loss years ago Kevin's building on their way to a final four maybe you handle the pressure in physicality and that's what Kentucky's going to have to do and they see freshmen PJ goes or gets one of the more difficult matchups in the country trying to defend Tyler Lewis here's hulex Dodgers have issues big screen to leave [Applause] does for this Kentucky office but you see what Derek Willis has been able to do insert it as a floorspace ernest starting life he's playing the best basketball of his career kentucky has turned up the defensive pressure as late john calipari said our offense was humming we had to improve on the defensive end and that's been their focus over the last week or so [Applause] they held Georgia's scoreless for 18 minutes in their win last timeout Lee had a hold the officials didn't see it it'll stay this way Derek Willis for three first trip well he was buried on the bench I mean he didn't even play against Ohio State and has had a coming of age since that game against Auburn you guys best shoots the basketball from beyond the arc and you can bet they're gonna look for him for open looks here's scenarious Thornwell hounded by Murray Silva never got on the screen has to pick up his dribble Annie Walker so this is a Kentucky lineup now that's a little bit smaller a Derek Willis as a stretch for but Frank Martin said he's not your typical guy who can beat us off the dribble so we think we match up well with him the physical play of the South Carolina front they not to impose their will and you're right Derek Willis is necessarily a physical player but he's rebounded the bat the ball well let them in rebounding six the last eight games but he's gonna have his work cut out for himself on the defensive end keeping them off the blast [Music] that will go against Derek Willis his first team's first on Kentucky remember Kentucky without the services of alex poythress show foul trouble early especially for guys in the front court could become an issue for John Calipari [Applause] Guerrera baseline on Brisco he's improved his game all the way around this season God by catching us off the rim of Carrera crashing [Applause] little screwed shotguns for Jamal Murray South Carolina has really picked up the pace here in year for the Frank Martin era 58th in the country and tempo last year there 196 he said I've got a veteran team that now knows what I want they know what I was gonna show you the freshmen off the wall and another scrum for the rebound and Alyssa will go against challenge for beating those or as a young player to be in this game and it's the Kentucky guards but you look at the Gamecock international [Applause] he got tossed [Applause] has been ejected from the game two years ago and his old players have to hold him back unreal development that was a foul that went against South Carolina carrillo to the free-throw line as Calipari heads back to the locker room one official is making the call the other doug sirmons was going over to talk to john calipari words were exchanged to teens and all three ports is done for the day [Applause] Calipari is concerned about the scrubs on offensive rebound said that foul when it gets [Applause] Calipari still what happened when I was Miss jovian considering the circumstances [Applause] so John Calipari was upset there's the first technical foul and in Calipari which needing to get index image face that's to employers of John Calipari unis out to Bristol tonight Elizabeth three tuckus Leon the glass so the crunchy leaves handed off Kenny Payne and Tony Barbee the rest of the way and robic got teed up in here a couple years ago - it's the house of war is for Kentucky and that regard on recent visits to be so interesting to see how this young teen navigates this because they have struggled on the road [Music] [Applause] you know that if you say equipment magic words you're gonna get a second one you're going to get thrown out you loose with the rebound a bike Carrera what a remarkable start to this one silver lost the handle I'll back out to Carrera deep [Applause] come on Maria Thornwell winces alone off the back of the rim leaves got another offensive rebound for Kentucky and they can reset it Disko gets a bump on the drive [Applause] Wow chance to catch a breath South Carolina with the leaves number 22 Kentucky in the world wide to try to get it done without their Hall of Fame head coach the rest of the way Calipari coming out of his shirt in front of this sellout crowd [Music] SPMS exclusive presentation of college basketball is brought to you by infinity luxury cars that deliver inspired performance and Bayer Aspirin learn about the risk of a heart event and I am Pro heart calm incredible starting here in Columbia South Carolina with an early lead John Calipari was concerned with the Gamecocks offensive rebounding they pulled that 39 percent of their misses that's eighth best in the country this was the play on the earlier Drive where John Calipari was upset that there wasn't a whistle called mindful Carrera hard to the glass for South Carolina's first bucket and so you understand that Calipari knows that their sole physical inside to try and control the officiating early in this game but he lost his wits and he's gone two and a half minutes in well here's what you're trying to through you're trying to set the tone for your team you have a young team you're coming on the road the South Carolina team so you set the tone with the rest and say hey I want you to watch this not allow this to happen on the office [Applause] I'm not surprised he got the first T cuz I think he was trying to set the tone I'm surprised to happen this early in the game that he's throwing out Jack wall between longtime Cal assistant and handles all of the scouts handling two head coaches with his down [Applause] the importance of tyler ulis in the leadership role his team through this game without coach Calipari on the sidelines John robic told me before this game you see Tyler Ulis grow into a more jovial guy which is so important as a point guard he's really relish the challenge extension of Coach Calipari on that court and that will be so important for Kentucky today on the road as Isaiah Briscoe hits the first and knocks them both down after the foul from VIN dog is conscious [Applause] [Applause] [Music] Calibos third turnover for South Carolina yo is cross over crystal [Applause] will rebounce with Kentucky they're giving South Carolina taste of their own medicine [Applause] [Music] Raymond Jovian is a game for South Carolina he replaces tightness to get some early run both teams getting into their bench Kentucky looking for some offense cats have made just one of the last six crystal drives [Applause] there is no league in college basketball that has a better home court advantage than the SEC number one in the country home court winning percentage and you can feel it in this building near this afternoon [Applause] [Applause] commits his first so to be a three-headed monster in the Kentucky bench trying to pick up with John Calipari left arm candy pain on his feet with Joel justice Tony Barbee to his right and then rolled in pain the associate head coach for Kentucky in his sixth season quicken down protective concern scores at a high rate second turnover for you definitely unsettled unsettled for Kentucky on the offensive end of the floor [Applause] a little bit of pressure for the cats on the freshman point guard no sure McDonald's all-american [Applause] those you're off the market will happen raining away offensive August 5th for Kentucky Gillis get free a dish for service code [Applause] ulis pounding Dobie thorn website is stupid stone on our own [Applause] Kentucky struggled offensively against Georgia and that enabled their offense to get some clean looks at the basket that's what they need to look to do not get bogged down against the South Carolina half-court offense and get some of their seniors from early workbooks nice knock down there when Murray's hit seven to seven threes last he game [Applause] [Music] this [Music] lights out Jamal Murray has been on the offensive end of the floor leading the team in scoring and so much of this team in their production have been on their back way then on Tyler Ulis and Jamal Murray and he has Hamilton and has become their go-to sport lemonis the cabbage has hit the free-throw line the senior from Lithuania with two companies way [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] that January we would play to that estimate we over time through the Jayhawks coming out on top it's Saturday primetime presented by DIRECTV game also streaming live on watch ESPN and the ESPN app buddy he'll vote for 46 in that one at Allen Fieldhouse in a loss and what a game that was for college sports fans in general ever care that Fowler the first season is kind of left more waterways with the casual fans to be introduced to college basketball special a chance to see [Applause] he's had it stripped away his first shot of town in a poacher ulis looking to the officials asking doug sirmons where's our whistle on Eddie kind of leadership cannulas provided his head coach back in the locker room more than anything it's just his presence and that he remains calm that he doesn't look scared that he's not look the bench more than usual he just plays his game the guys falling in they're generally focused on here they're not focused on John Calipari is back soon and he gets the foul on Johnson's first bucket for Tyler Ulis [Applause] you campaign week would be crazy here in the Palmetto State [Applause] crazy to John Calipari ejected two and a half minutes into this one and his cats down his seven nothing rolls South Carolina's long wait against a ranked opponent a halt came against Kentucky with Cal got tossed last time [Applause] full house at Colonial Life arena and they've gotten their money's worth already 16 to 10 Kentucky with a seven nothing run to : quad in South Carolina welcome courtside Tom Hart alongside Carroll Austin John Calipari ejected from this game two and a half minutes into it and Kara we've been talking about it just like everybody in this building it didn't seem like doug sirmons had any choice but to issue a second technical after calipari came back after john calipari wanted to send a message to the officials early about the physicality of South Carolina he felt like his guys were getting fouled underneath and so he had been for a couple suggestions talking to the officials and got the first seat he lost it Tom I mean after he got that first team this is a head John Calipari so upset Michael Carrera crashing the boards thanks mr. bellows whistles a foul on it but it was to play before on Carolina's first bucket they didn't get the whistle so it secured on the fest right if you don't want possession after possession after possession your guys to get pushed under underneath what what he deemed was a foul that wasn't his biggest worries coming into the game but to me there's no question that it should have been teed up and there's no question he should have been thrown out this is a South Carolina team that takes after their head coaches [Applause] just like that from Mike mara and John Calipari was aware of Frank Martin's team as a valent is able to turn this into a rugby scrum underneath they're going to get better looks were good enough defensive team Cal thought they could hold South Carolina just in the halfcourt but South Carolina then play offensive rebound physical team they're not a great offensive team Kenny Bane's running the Huddle's for Kentucky Kayla would you hear Kenny Payne in that league chair keeping the team as calm as you can telling them things like he's trying just as you all said manage the emotion of this team in a moment you could also say that was a missed opportunity for South Carolina Michael Carrera missed three of the four technical foul shots and what was a raucous atmosphere kind of got deflated after that four Carrera in Carolina everybody in college basketball the shock right now this is a huge game for Kentucky frankly NCAA [Applause] you took it away with between the legs [Applause] Neelix calls out the offense this year and Leon top [Applause] Marie gets the screen before the standard you look at me [Applause] that little chicken wing in a game like this the draw whistle if that's the case we're going to see a lot of them the rest of the way I don't think that's anything there tom Ivan John Calipari just gets heat up again from the locker room he just got thrown out of the arena he's got a long shower now I don't blame him it's a kentucky going to the bench and seven footer Isaac Humphries on the floor for the first time that stuff was silver inside Carreras turned himself into a corner to threat this season the passes on the three they're left open here with a pump fake it to hey Jamal Murray on the ground the Kentucky good health by those you kids on the flute hit another offensive rebound and now scelera came out swinging [Applause] Marcus lead over to his job on the offensive glass for Kentucky and they're going to need him to play big today Kentucky without Ellis quick versus the right knee injury and then there's the conference you just don't need to do that you don't need to foul 93 feet away from the basket put South Carolina to the free-throw line I know you want him to be physical you want him to attack the glass but that's a silly foul there for the young freshman and so Carrera to the free-throw line he's been remarkable as my game yesterday in a long physical intense practice Frank Martin told his guys if I as a player failed to get a rebound on the playground with my own guys don't take it out on he said that just on the playground this is for the SEC lead they're matter tire clients you better crash the best no matter where you play [Applause] Carrera for three [Applause] though Jackie was born and levissi air21 Willis [Applause] that whistle John Calipari's got a jet leak in the state where the flowers is Marcus Lee you have the basketball [Applause] I mean that's going for the basketball South Carolina hasn't paid it off just one of seven from the free-throw line I'm autistic heaviness scoreless so far [Applause] veteran crew Tony green Brian Shane doug sirmons [Applause] and we [Applause] people both see Friday [Applause] to Ulis here [Applause] you said before the game to any team in the SEC and we can't see it yeah that Quinn's been Simmons in my opinion in that possession how many times did the ball go back to tyler ulis because someone else on the team didn't want they didn't want the pressure of making a play and so they find him situation he just makes him pay this cuts you loose has had a hand in 12 of Kentucky's 19 points all he wanted to see that one up against his own back to Murray [Applause] with Carolina Dozier transition period let him finish for the freshmen and now Carrera pulls up we've been off the mark here early [Applause] the focus of everyone's attention in practice he should be in the game as well Kentucky with a five point lead thanks to their leader Chris hassle in the studio with a couple of updates here over on espn2 West Virginia has already forced 11 turnovers on TCU this one's actually on ESPN you the game on ESPN 2 is on the right side of the screen which it tossed a one-point lead against Northern Iowa Panthers playing much better trying to snap the longest home winning streak in the country at 43 Tom and Kara fight thanks welcome back to Columbia the man missing his Hall of Fame head coach John Calipari went to head coaches to take three teams to the Final Four upset with whistles on the offensive glass get teed up twice and duck sermons random from this game that was with seven or left in the first half [Applause] if Calipari is finding that we're just talking in the break it seemed he knew what he was doing he knew he wanted to send a message to the officials [Applause] or that second technical companies will climb out [Applause] [Music] [Applause] opportunities artist of the day for the cats [Music] well Kentucky and tyler ulis enter six nothing right here this year there are times that make uslaugh to their office real footing here in the last couple minutes in surprise they use calm is that you would think that Kentucky to do the team playing a little bit sloppy maybe not executing their the go team there without their head close and it seems like South Carolina's a team in a little bit of a malaise right here Carolina shot a seasonal 31% loss of Georgia no it is way off the mark oh that one and now thorn wall will make a living closest they're missing a lot mid-range jumpers the production for Carol come inside [Applause] servo and we get a jeff dyer possession [Applause] the physical presence of Chris Silva inserted into the lineup for game two those are the last four games and he's brought back a physical presence on both ends of the floor assault offensive rebounding the possession before [Applause] the push listed for his first team second is where they make their money South Carolina plays the long day and what I mean by that is they feel like they can have a wear down effect on you physically not look pretty sometimes it doesn't look pretty for the last 30 minutes for the first 39 minutes of the game he's going to win their game they don't blow on the people out there they just wear you down they're molded and their image of a bulldog head coach Frank Marcus [Applause] [Music] has had an uneven senior year to say it mildly when he accepted challenge physically as he come free surprise getting whistled for his second job ninth team foul on Kentucky so scenarios going well to the free-throw line 7 different players have led the South Carolina team in scoring through the first 24 games but only scenarios for well and life is Herrera have Lederman story [Music] [Applause] [Music] Frank Martin dialed in to this one and folks that's how he is every minute of the day [Applause] he's credited Siderius storm comes in field leadership skills is silvermax data balance last summer Frank Martin in South Carolina sent Thornwell to a Leadership Conference in Dayton Ohio for three days and one of the biggest things you can learn as an upperclassmen is how to deal with your coach he's measuring out like this [Applause] the turn around his back if they're 21 to make the NCAA - mike dunleavy senior we're on that team and culture here in South Carolina these are the type of games that could get you to the next step that can switch you as a leader in the clubhouse in the regular season race in the SEC and handle this deficit and try and get back to even to a halftime that's got to be Carolina's focus here last conference title came in 97 Eddie fuller as a head coach he had Melvin Watson and BJ Mackey leading that team here's the number 10 for you Dwayne notice and now hard in Iraq and he's able to draw the foul Marcus Stroman is not playing with a lot of confidence in his jumper right now so he's able to get to the rim after tonight's big matchup between Texas and Iowa State stick around for college gameday presented by State Farm at night with Max in the coach they'll have all the college hoops highlights including the mega matchup between kon oklahoma plus highlights from the NBA all-star weekend College GameDay presented by State Farm at night tonight after tom trip [Applause] [Music] they come in terms of dogs in the sec these guys are going at it still nice generous show of sportsmanship and I show them you know they were teammates and I see Chris Jovan Isaiah Briscoe Catholic in New Jersey Marcus damn he's got six largest lead of the game for Kentucky last seven possessions for the Cox is one of seven from the floor and three turnovers Isiah comforts now with his third personal foul he's telling everybody where to go watch him music he's a fascinating college point guard to watch because he does a lot of things beyond the college game in terms of the point guard position and it's not just this deal with the basketball it's how he understands the game talking to guys the psychology of it he can't talk to Isaac Humphries different than he's going to talk to scowl at Missy Aaron Isaac Humphries credits Tyler Ulis was staying in his year when he wasn't playing and he said when John Calipari told me I was going to go into the game one of the first guys I thought about was Tyler Ulis and if Tyler has confidence in me then I know I can go out there and I know I can five years held in regard by his teammates to least as long as a fall [Music] [Applause] and that would be on Dwayne notice it's the first son of jr. forward Frank Martin pleads his case Murray to the free-throw line he's the only freshman in school [Applause] [Music] fourth best story freshmen in college basketball eighteen and a half the game he has eight here early [Applause] we kept it alive and it's chapter by let's go it's started with it's finished with a jam and Kentucky playing inspired basketball here in his first half this year his third personal foul or hand fighting in shots with catchiness I love this I like the energy with which Marcus leeeeee is playing with Briscoe says no problem nice little oops there to scowl bringing some noise edge Tom and Kara [Music] well there's the head Ball Coach that guy knows a little something about spiking a visor he can relate to John Calipari frustration early in this one football coach here in the Heisman Trophy winners as the quarterback in Florida he's not been a fun of gun offense for Carolina here to start this game though Kara they've been kind of stuck in the mud which is times can be their identity though they scored 94 against LSU they can still grind you out a little bit this is what they all look at Tyler Ulis and what he's been responsible for so far in this game sent out this to me he's done a terrific job he does that was very low [Applause] their transition defense [Applause] that's a bad thing okay incentive three in every game this season Kentucky has the second longest streak in college basketball 964 beautiful it's Wednesday name is moving better Brazil the Clipper off the back is going on may the species claiming in birthdays in two minutes to Kentucky he looks like he's moving a lot better Norfolk Kentucky team which is last in conference games in template entry to silver you wonder if they had a little bit of depth in the backcourt where Ulis and Murray could get more breathers how much better this team could be if they opened it up a little you know I think Hawkins injuries really perked them in terms of building that depth of course he broke his hand in the preseason and then sprained his ankle only missed some considerable time he's not a superstar player [Applause] taking over you listen Murray man this is something to watch they combined 420 of Kentucky's 37 releases twice beat the shot clock buzzer and that is just a killer leave thirty seconds and watch you guys stick one in your eyes [Music] and again we could look at the flip side of it and say do you really want you listen very off the floor at all put the way that they play I mean do you really want them off the floor just understanding shot clock and right off that ball screen and get a little pocket in there as a guard when you call off that ball screen to rise and fired Willis finds it in exploited 28 seconds worth of defense out the window checking all seasons he connects 5.5 personal fouls per 40 minutes played the majority those coming on hand checking Frank Martin said listen these are guys that are playing for legendary Hall of Fame high school coaches like Morgan Wootten who teach defense and make you work for defense each and every day he said when I played down in Miami it's the first thing we worked on but in this day and age you're working on offense more than equal we're not really [Applause] the other says another homecoming today it's the big rematch between Kansas and Oklahoma 2:30 Eastern from Norman they met January 4th it was a 109 106 triple overtime thriller jayanta came out on town Saturday primetime presented by DirecTV also streaming live to watch ESPN and the ESPN app 11 now for Tyler Ulis to match Murray for team-high the lead has ballooned to 15 South Carolina shooting just 36% [Applause] [Applause] back to Kentucky the other way South Carolina wanted six from deep you see the frustration of Michael Carrera opportunity lost here in the first half to this point by South Carolina I'm not sure if Frank Martin even recognizes a team that's out on the court right now the team that came into this game 21 and three physical attacking on the glass and it shot is better than 50% over the previous two games better than 48 percent from three single digits on the shot clock again back to ulis three two [Applause] three times he's put it in with a shot clock sounding in his ear [Applause] [Music] [Applause] taken by Kentucky John robic came up that been to the fist bump they are fired up [Applause] Tyler Ulis I mean this has been an offensive clinic understanding time and space and I slow rising fire there I mean you've been up against the clock quite a few times their officials are gonna see if his foot was behind the line and right there to me absolutely his toe is behind the line it should be as they called it on the floor which is a three coaches were upset they were livid at their guys after Murray missed that three they allowed the way notice one of the best three-point shooters on South Carolina's team to get an open three off in transition but you see the backcourt and they they have been bled by the strength of the numbers of their backboard all season long on the offensive end he has such a tight relationship with John Calipari than who watched kentucky practice there's not a whole lot of verbal communication between Cal and Ulis he doesn't have to say a lot to him he already knows that Ulis knows what he wants he's as good as it gets in terms of the mental thoughts and the anticipatory part of being appointment Kentucky holding to the last shot New Leash on the left side this first half they hit for a 10 from deep it's a largest halftime deficit of the season for South Carolina Kentucky's only down a coach 1734 left in the first half and doug sirmons hit his whistle twice made two tees and ejected the Hall of Famer Wow Kaley heart tones Santa by with Kenny Payne your team was able to respond following coach Calipari attention well it's been a tough situation without Carroll out here first of all we've done a good job of executing offensively we've done a good job of fighting them to keep them off the glass which is what they are known for and what they do really well you just got to keep the momentum going keep executing Tyler Ulis able to get 13 points but what was his most important impact on just controlling the offense and we're coaching the defense he has a great feel for what we're doing offensively and we just got to keep fighting all deeper i Kaylee thanks well Cal cares he's number three trending on Twitter right now on his team rolling time now for the jeep halftime report let's go to Chris hassle and Lafon so Ellis wife Farina this is the sec ESPN's and a dominating first half for the Kentucky Wildcats [Applause] welcome back someone [Applause] Kentucky the first half the hall-of-fame head coach he's ejected two and a half minutes into this one it didn't seem to bother these cats later response by this young team on the talk about how they started on the road the way his composure and his playmaking ability was a difference for Kentucky here's how it all unfolded Kaylie heart song with soccer penny pain after this ejection of John Calipari with 1734 he was left in a half was able to get 13 points but what was his most important impact on that first half just controlling the offense and we're coaching the defense he has a great feel for what we're doing offense Utley and we just got to keep fighting on defense essentially what they're saying is Tyler Ulis is the offensive coordinator for Kentucky and his coaching staff taking over as the defensive coordinator let's check in with Kayla guys john calipari did watch that first half from the kentucky locker room and when the team went in there for the half he was there to give them some positive encouragement and reaction to the way they handled that first half but he let the assistant coaches campaign to Tony Barbee and John robic continue to coach them through the half or whatever halftime adjustments they may be interested in making he doesn't want to interrupt the flow that they have begun to create here look who's trending on Twitter right now shocker Coach Cal number three Calipari number five and Tyler Ulis top ten plays like that in all editions number eight come on you know we've talked a lot about what you listen Marie have done on the offensive end they have harassed the South Carolina team into 27 points in the first half and it's really started in the back door here's Silva to Dozier the freshman and don't you're kidding at the little leaner [Applause] don't you know the whistle on [Applause] many thought its as we gave Kentucky in the far south Frank Martin was into his guys to impose their will had last year in the second this is the way back into the game for them okay they're not going to come down and necessarily hit a ton of threes their way back is to impose their will on the rebounding both offensively and defensively that's how they come back in this room they are eight best in the country in terms of offensive rebound percentage they clear down 39 percent a South Carolina nihlus working on the freshman bindery floater yes Jamal Murray's got 13 [Applause] [Music] watch him sell buy lists turned over by South Carolina [Applause] this is a building that will be sold out for four consecutive games trying to get the fans out of their seats Frank Martin with the greeting from the three-time Grammy Award winner Darius Rucker who's sang the anthem before the game [Music] [Applause] it has been a remarkable home court advantage South Carolina's 13 and all at home this season kentucky fibrillate the cats have won their last 34 ruff willis for three he said two things and Kentucky is rolling [Applause] while inspired defects by the cats yourself Clark the Kutch affiliates are throwing it off the backboard you can go ahead and try it John Calipari still in the building matter where you sit he came out of his seat up to this [Applause] [Music] ESPN's exclusive presentation of college basketball is brought to you by Ford Service when your ford need service you need this specialist at Ford before the game today John Calipari got an update on his former cats playing in the Rising Stars Challenge last night walk to the border NBA all-star weekend this one would be fitting in Toronto tonight [Music] tremendous and watching darts back and he looks he knows he's got markets out [Music] but that's pretty good using you get one dunker you can use a teammate I think and that's a pretty good entry there for Kentucky 29 points responsible for by Tyler Ulis he's at a hand and 45 percent of their points in conference play this season and now a trap at midcourt notice nearly went over him back but he wanted it anyway Kentucky John Calipari put a renewed focus on defense a couple weeks ago and that focusing practice is showing its results in games it was the Thursday after their loss and not still they had a long physical practice we got another team this one's going to go against Carolina and Jamaal Gregory the freshman on the floor for the first time [Applause] when Frank Martin doesn't even look at you that's bad [Music] [Applause] [Music] the dead ball satella Mueller says 15 won't even bother with the freshmen [Applause] today in the SEC we entered Saturday with three teams tied atop the SEC LSU Kentucky and South Carolina when you look at the schedules the South Carolina were able to win this game they they'd have the best chance from a schedule perspective to win the SEC this is a big environment for them it's a sold-out crowd and I'm just surprised they'd come up this small on this man those are the offense [Applause] look mouse tonight the other advances at Ratana South Carolina you win this day you hold the head-to-head tiebreaker over the two guys behind you Kentucky and LSU real them am but you only play Kentucky and LSU once so that's a huge advantage now Kentucky would be a first place with a win here today what happened - 46 SEC titles 28 sec tournament championships broken record as opposed it's bill on the glass [Applause] [Music] [Applause] finished with a freshman from New Jersey [Applause] Alyssa's been as tough as I've seen Kentucky play all season long and miss EULA's navigating the ball screen a look away and brisker with the tough and physical finish you know what this is right now this is South Carolina's very physical and tough on a typical game Kentucky is not consistent in doing so but they are today and they have [Music] by the vichy air on that rebound then left eye's receiver [Applause] four points today [Applause] what you talked about that toughest from Kentucky is something that John Calipari has been working to get out of his team all season long as appetite strong Murray stripped by corn riders State [Music] in order to find huh well kids listen better from distance in here maybe he was in there sweetness and Senate and social media mr. Ulis [Applause] second let's check in with Kaylee guys welcome to how to practice the other day for two and a half hours Calla said i don't go two and a half hours in the middle of February this was a body-to-body practice practice beginning in here which team is awesome edge okay one of the reasons he doesn't go along with this team typically is because you listen [Applause] another thing that they did during his long practices in Africa Lhasa tendencies to change some things up defensively change scheme lines and you can see the benefit they absolutely shut down Georgia makes bald Missouri and now they are selling second artifact to the store maze now on South Carolina down 24 under 16 to go Gamecocks desperate for some office now for today's rise up brought to you by Street Fighter 5 South Carolina wasn't expected to be in first place with the preseason polls for currently tied for first with Kentucky and LSU Haley has gone well after they pulled off that win against LSU to get that tie for first place Frank Martin told his team hey guys enjoy this you've earned it but if that's how the celebrators sit back he said they gave you time to reflect and what it felt like miss situation was and this is when you tell yourself I don't want to go back there so I've got to work even harder to keep getting better until three years ago guys Martin's first year at South Carolina at the head coach for and 14 was their record in the SEC a long way in space indeed and a lot to be proud of but he answered the critics who said in South Carolina fans said why aren't we ranked as McKevitt just will live on the floor and he told us yesterday frankly we don't deserve the way we gotta earn it now the winning is saying in the win against LSU I'd say they're working towards that I mean really few losses have come in conference play in the non-conference schedule for South Carolina while it's not impressive into the numbers people if you go back to when they were scheduling their non-conference games it should have been a lot better schedule a Tulsa team it was 27 games last year a st. John's team that went to the NCAA tournament but the roster got turned over a Florida State team with the shooter and in early season tournament the Seminoles lost a Memphis team that was without Boston Nicholson now Josh masters squad she's really on the road her Drexel team that had Daniel as Yunus hits a three so it's a sticky situation for college coaches they have to answer for their non-conference schedules but at the time they make to schedule between then and when you finally play the game things change the Carrera falls into the defender and is able to draw blocking time south carolina 21 and 3 overall the BPI is 32 they're RPI 21 and right now Joey Brad catism as his 6e tough loss on the road at Rocky Top but their non-conference strength of scheduled 370 there cutie there an NCAA tournament team I don't know that I would have them in my top 25 teams in the country right now even with those wins against A&M or I'll shoot but they're a solid solid team and they've put themselves in a position even if they lose this game to fight for the SEC regular season title and that's something that is is tough to pull off but just team will be right there today right now it's all Kentucky you 16 to to run South Carolina with its 14th turnover over they're always five minutes into the second half we said it before the game started an opportunity for Carolina to prove once again you kind of think what we looked at this game as an opportunity to prove to a minute they're fighting for a conference title they're fighting for NC double-a shoes and you know the other piece of this which is just a reality of the way most of the conference's are is that it's an unbalanced schedule and South Carolina has at least compared to Kentucky or will have an easier schedule in terms of their SEC play and who they have to play on the road and neither did the play at home and all of those things eight and threes are life and that's why I thought this game was very important for South Carolina because it was an opportunity for them as we look at our bracketology there in the SEC and keep an eye on Alabama because Avery Johnson's got a great strength of schedule for wins against top 25 teams and a team that's coming alive late and so they may be on the outside right now but when the committee starts looking at their resume 49 at 13 talking about South Carolina's upcoming said to those those road games that play some bottom of the league teams in the next two trips in a row at Missouri Tuesday night news and again at Mississippi State on February 27th they much improved Southeastern Conference you care you're going to buy stock in the lead for future growth this would be the league to do it especially with the new coaches that are here like Ben Holland Rick Barnes income absolutely new coaches and new recruits new recruiting classes every year of course we know about Kentucky but there are a number of other schools are not done terrific on Twitter that is his 6235 Guerrera to the free-throw line [Music] saw Carrera hit of three last time down last year he was a 31% shooter from behind the arc and while there are several improved players in the SEC that have put their numbers to another level I know of anybody in the league that has extended he has been the foundational piece for Frank Martens rebo I mean things are different if he's not here the last four years he had to play a lot on the interior defensively in his early part of his career because he had the toughest you know is undersized [Applause] [Music] he's not [Music] he's got this ring for me as he touches the cabbages front of the train except oxygen temperatures he left for the bum wheel this Carrera had the green light he said absolutely he said I don't give the green light to guys who hit threes during give it to him the go to work get if you'll know look from winners and up in the period hilarious psychic Africa he said no awkward be in shooting a thousand two thousand trees a day and when he started the season missing his first seventeen Grady Martin told him from a game after not shooting at four he said they'll be working hard to pass up a three for Kentucky that is the flora thundera Quilici labissiere has four [Applause] [Applause] his cell at the free-throw line [Applause] south carolina 11 of 20 from the free-throw line today they make their living at the free-throw line and the best in the country getting them [Music] [Applause] so there is Thornwell picks up his second and Jamal Murray to the free-throw line [Applause] way notice back on the floor GOx [Applause] very Punk needs Laxus yesterday and that threw up a red flag I think they should be relieved of any worries because he looks just fine today what I love about Big Blue Nation is they're always worried about something [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] those you're got into [Applause] you just gotta write [Applause] this is for ulis how much fun must it be to play with this guy because he just makes you look good I mean just dribbles on on this turnover makes a mistake and then boom boom boom the psychos cones out there is [Applause] perfect Alan here's the second time in August consciousness three-point play for me he never gives up his relentless [Applause] we care a lot of guys turn the ball over at midcourt and go back on D they give up on just alert you get so much appreciation for what Tyler does when I see me practice is huge now look [Applause] he grabbed Murray Briscoe and Humphries before the ball was inbounded somewhat expected on this possession they have been anticipating their traffic [Applause] Tyler Ulis the offensive coordinator for Kentucky the remaining coasters are handling the defense closed Corphish trading whale the game [Applause] season what you through our postseason wishlist big crowd and Colombian the visitors from Big Blue Nation put it on South Carolina 6839 will look towards the postseason here's our wish list and we start with Ben Simmons we'd love to see him and LSU in the postseason they're fighting it out on the bubble with teams like mom Luke the one in the waning seconds last night yeah big come-from-behind win for Monmouth over Ryder how about North Carolina that healthy Tar Heels and you mentioned it a little bit earlier Avery Johnson and Alabama Avery Mike crystal puts up some halftime talks there and then Buddy hield you have channeling Danny Manning of course Danny Manning leading the Kansas Jayhawks and later of his performance his individual performances to national championship come buddy he'll do the same if that's taking you back too far think of Temple Walker and what he did with UConn by powering it off [Applause] a head coach and of course after us today we get the rematch between Kansas and Oklahoma their triple overtime that's another conference race that is just nip and tuck the big 12 got a lot important basketball verbs important regular-season basketball to be played here the country last three games Tyler Ulis scored 53 he's assisted on 30 other buckets [Applause] all those change of pace for Kentuckians ago outside shots [Music] [Applause] down it's a second on his did you notice the Monmouth bench last night I did not it's because late in the game they were all business they were close yeah because it was close have a feel for it no there's an artistry to it and you wouldn't know that Carol awesome you never spent time [Music] [Applause] of two and half minutes into this game John Calipari lost his cool was issued consecutive technical fouls by doug sirmons and that's why he's still a top ten trend in the United States the boy Ulis is quite another six Thank You America Thank You these Tidus grew out of the level of the top five [Music] [Applause] the 29.8 with a 29-point lead recipe there's just too much time left on the clock ten minutes oh absolutely I think we'll see the bench should be cleared by possessing later [Applause] ulis has been on the floor for 29 minutes as for he leads the SEC and more than 36 minutes ago Rory's right behind [Music] [Applause] was silverpoint possess [Applause] [Music] so the Sowers Murray he is injured he's holding the last couple fingers on his right hand Marty and Tyler Ulis give Kentucky an incredible one-two punch and this is a guy they cannot afford to lose let's see it's a nice Drive gives a rip down to try and get the basketball it looks like he caught at least his pinky we're hangin his pinky finger there watch the rip down here by thorn we'll just tags it [Applause] sells tickets at home [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] why just leaving the game for the cats up 30 as dominique hawkins returns [Applause] gara you looked around the arena before chip and said I don't know if I really see that many blue shirts here get in hand now [Music] I went by the IHOP where we're doing [Applause] [Music] [Applause] an open-floor foul on pj deutscher that's his fourth Wednesday at North Carolina Wednesday night hoops is part of rivalry week presented by Wendy's also streaming live on WatchESPN and the ESPN app but seems like marques page has worked his way out of his incredulous shooting slump I did some research on kara loss in your junior higher as great as the player as you were continue to be you had a it's a terrible trip to Ames Iowa first second round of the NCAA tournament but you came out of it so how does his shooter come out of a swamp try not to think about it try not the guy I've always been very [Applause] [Music] [Applause] think about it sometimes the more developed and the more you're worried about it and the other piece of this is I've always found that when you're coming off an injury no matter what it is that it can impact you're shooting for longer than the injury itself whether it's an ankle whether it's an [Music] injury have you lost a little bit of strength and so with Marcus Paige this year back on the floor Ulis takes you see he's got 23 we're high in this Titus career-high with 11 assists two games [Music] folks raving but North Carolina may had a great season remember they went back to Northern Iowa to play a game and Marcus pages home state whose engines that Gannett didn't play folks are talking a lot about LSU's loss down the road against College of Charleston Lanier the kind of forgotten completely forgotten the North Carolina loss [Music] 75-43 number 22 Kentucky trying to go to three and five away from Rupp Arena [Music] all right Chris thanks to the Roundhouse of sad house the folks here in South Carolina can relate as they hit the streets here in Columbia and coming up next number six Kansas number three Oklahoma has won seven of the last ten top 10 matchups on the Robideau yield who has 8 and 30 point games in a single season third most in Bigfoot history between Michael Beasley and a guy by the name of Kevin Durant looking at [Music] Perry Ellis and his efficiency numbers and his productivity in the big 12 and big 12 play mirrors out of Buddy here he shoots 25% from 3 he doesn't score as many points he's about 20 a game but he's about 25 rebounds at a higher rate than Buddy hield then I'm not saying he should be big 12 12 Player of the Year but what I'm saying is Perry Ellis is having an all-american type season from jail guys that have been around and met with their coaching specs [Applause] Wars risco clients Murray transition trip and Dobby brings it down Frank Parton has had conversations with Bill Self about that in the last couple of books [Applause] superstar freshmen but it's you guys that have been there less heralded that are giving your production [Music] [Applause] [Music] Jamal Murray oh my goodness Partners Bristow's out whistle for the checkers we slam the ball down yeah he slam the ball down right after so we will shoot the technical foul first Carolina [Applause] please weigh me down ricochets off the floor hi more than likely [Applause] [Applause] this is a Kentucky team that had to find a way to get better I lost on the road to UCLA they lost Ohio State and the question was what was the upside to improve during the season of jamal murray has gotten better over the course of the season which is [Applause] sighs occur instant on the offensive end and he has improved defensively remember early it's always a challenge for a freshman except for Briscoe Briscoe was the one guy that got it defensively very early almost from the start but other players it takes time in terms of speed communication on that end of the floor and Murray by virtue of playing a ton and having to really dig baptized by fire he's come around to be a solid offensive player [Applause] but the deficit 30 was six and a half to go [Applause] get away - one executive is [Applause] the only thing you can do is if you're south carolina's take this as a learning experience and as as embarrassing as this is and this is embarrassing is what it is I mean it's you're at home you're fighting for first place in the SEC and you're getting hammered by 30 this is an embarrassment their performance this afternoon but you have to learn from much like you were so excited about the wins over a.m. and LSU there's always the next game and there's a next game for them if I were PJ Dozier the young freshman one mark I would I would I would keep this tape in my locker the entire summer because now Tyler Ulis played the position of point large that is what you need to aspire to do if your DJ don't know sir as a point guard you need to aspire to run and communicate a team like Tyler Ulis have done this afternoon in front of the front a full house it includes his mom for more on that let's check in with Kayla Frank Martin's got his mom here his sister her husband their two kids two uncles five guys he grew up with the list keeps growing now Frank Martin told us he was absolutely flames he had the beg and borrow to make sure all of his folks were taken care of because there was not a ticket for even the head coach to find on this campus three years ago his family and friends they will accommodate what the heart to make sure they had a he was gonna make sure he got this phone before game the suitcase he left somebody on that list yeah it won't get any easier for because the game against Florida next week is also sold out kind of amazing job building this program changing the culture in many ways here at South Carolina getting the fans behind you [Applause] the gratification you can't turn around the basketball court especially if you want to do it the right way no you can't and he has done it the right way we broke around the players that we're committed to him his first year those are what South Carolina local guy McDonald's all-american that decided to come and play here at South Carolina so they're still steps that need to be made and I think today is an example of an important step that this group needs to make is to learn how to play with toughness and physicality when it's at the game foul is after the shot so they're taking a look at it on the review Ferrara ready to shoot the is isaiah briscoe he was whistled for the foul and so the thing that - wanna look at that you're talking about he's a dozer he's turned down North Carolina Louisville Georgetown in Michigan following in his dad's footsteps is farmer Kerry playing here in the mid 80s his sister Asia that number two women's basketball team here combined 40s for wins and four losses between the men's and women's basketball programs with Perry a proud papa the women are 23 and one so the common foul on Isaiah Briscoe they went and looked at it just to double-check and so Ferreira shooting a one-and-one doug sirmons has had a busy day that is an accurate statement double-double for Michael Carrera the senior from Venezuela is separate against Mississippi State Carrera has 34 points in 15 boards it was the first 30:10 performance for a Gamecock in their SEC history during the 25th year line shay and doug sirmons is a name the Big Blue Nation would be forgetting anytime I did have an opportunity to ask is what happened with John Calipari with a second technical and his response recent so you can't quote silence he doesn't want a I go to the house [Music] [Applause] what the hell Frank Martin's gonna react after this against Vanderbilt and he wasn't happy with the way his guys were react you know a little bit too confident he said walking around campus and in classes and on the practice court so they had a four hours film session it wasn't because they watched three or four games it was one game that featured a lot of rewinding had come to Jesus meeting he said went out the next time they lost to Alabama that was a cold slap of reality in South Carolina this is another one of those situations [Applause] [Music] 26 for Jamaal Murray how good at these Guardsmen and they have carried them all season it shouldn't be a surprise anyone that's watching sucky play how vital these two are Tyler Ulis and Jamal Murray but in an environment like today what's the other thing that was going against them in terms of being into the game those two players and those two guys I mean they rallied this group and there's always points in the season where you say this was a tournament we found ourselves here and they look back on the scene you say this is where we found ourselves start to wonder if this is this is going to be that that point for this Kentucky team Carrera to the free-throw line that's is kind of what happened the last time they lost you the last time John Calipari was rejected couple seasons ago they lost here he said that that was a team that I really had to mold and work him hard towards the tail into the season to get them all to kind of follow me along they lost year they lost to Florida and then it merarys get 24 catching us back on the floor Tyler Ulis has played 34 minutes thus far today he said a new career-high with 12 assists this afternoon he's had four assists or more in 18 consecutive games [Music] [Music] [Applause] you know for South Carolina know that they're disappointed of how they play but to me that they've lost like you know I'm not seeing a whole lot of that from South Carolina yesterday [Music] [Applause] but there is one his 13 points a game he had 24 in the last Metro he has just seven here today [Applause] [Music] yes [Applause] career high at 26 in the loss of Kansas very high assist end points would you say Kentucky is hitting its stride I would say let me see mortgage that's what I would say I want them to string some of this stuff together but their best performance I've seen all season long not an easy team to do it against in the Wildcats they have come out taking care of business your game is done well the top of the SEC standings is a log jam Kentucky trying to pull away to move to nine and three LSU and a dogfight right now with number 15 Texas A&M and Florida lurking it's a game off the pace right now after a MLS you can tell a man that Hall the resurgent team under Avery Johnson defensive mind and squad and then they go on the road to Rocky Top Tennessee has already beaten South Carolina and Kentucky volunteers came from 21 down to knock off Kentucky [Music] cries he's still in with two minutes to go to twenty seven point game I am surprised but I think Dominique Coffey is at the table you aren't the only one who saw Dominique Hawkins ready to check in I'm sure Tyler Ulis with his vision sawed in two and that probably led to trying to get one more career high points and assists for Uli's [Music] [Applause] Matthews follows his own this choice first bucket [Applause] my client's scene will be on the road at Missouri [Music] Oh those different dollars really one [Music] Tyler Ulis is gonna finish this one out now the next Kansas in Oklahoma from morning magic again bilis we pray Kentucky will go to 1986 alone in first place for the moment [Applause] there's TV Mitsuko [Music] [Applause] John Calipari it doesn't Tyler Ulis 27:12 assists and Kentucky's handle not Gulf South Carolina 89 to 62 coming up next College GameDay presented by State Farm as they get you set for a big 12 showdown Ulis exited the game he came back in to finish this one and Kentucky finished off South Carolina
