Please note that this website is currently a work in progress! Lots of interesting data and statistics to come.
A cai by itself is typically useless. The engine isn't going to know what to do with all that extra air. The gains very small.
A cai, exhaust mod such as an x-pipe plus an custom tune flashed on the car to tell it to take advantage of said mods, that's a different story.
For that Ford engineer to wholesale disregard the aftermarket community, something which is the biggest in the world in regards to mustangs, was rather stupid of him.
I'm not the most knowledgeable person here, and if I'm wrong I would love to be corrected, but here's how I understand what he's saying:
In the past, aftermarket CAIs HAVE improved HP, mpg, etc. This was when the stock CAIs were not the best you could get.
On THIS CAR an aftermarket CAI will give you no performance or economy boosts, because everything is designed and tuned to work with THIS CAI, which is the best for this engine. Everything is tuned to work together with specific parts, so even if you were to find a "better" CAI it wouldn't perform better in this car.
Edit:I sounded drunk.
It's all in the tune...you can throw on all the mods you want but if the computer can't adjust for the differences it's not going to make any difference (when it does its pretty negligible)
@ 4:40 is when they start talking about CAI. He says that CAI will do nothing for the car. He states all it can be used for now is Show.
I beg to differ and I bet a lot of people here will agree with me that a CAI over stock, show tremendous results, even on the new 13's it helps.
Well I could have told you that
Air raid picked up 9hp on my 2012 5.0 on the dyno with no tune. Just swapped the intake and that was all. did 3 pulls before and 3 after and each run with CAI was higher averaging 9hp over stock air box runs.
Those gains were backed up by faster (marginally) passes at the track but I'm admittedly not a good enough driver to lay down consistent enough times to make that hard evidence.
Butt dyno tells me everything I really need to know though.
Also in the video, there were a few other bits that made me roll my eyes. Specifically the comments about the shifter. Seriously the bracket ALONE on these manual transmissions is a joke. Barton, Steeda, Joe Heck Racing, etc all make a product FAR superior to the part ford thinks "can get no better" ಠ_ಠ

Did anybody else notice that the camera car was a GTR?
He said putting a CAI on THE BOSS 302 would be useless, and mentioned that it USED to bring power gains...Nice title.
Even without a tune I don't think my JLT is useless. It sounds fucking awesome. My stock V6 sounded like a Taurus when the windows were up and I couldn't hear the exhaust. Can't wait to get a tune.
