Georgia team bus was literally walking as the Bulldogs arrived a few hugs for aaron murray and his teammates as they made their way in and a former teammate Zach Mettenberger now the starting quarterback at LSU back home he grew up ten miles from Athens it's the LSU Tigers undefeated against the Georgia Bulldogs this [Applause] we welcome you to the home depot sec on CBS LSU and Georgia and good afternoon everybody Verne Lundquist along with gary Danielson he's so glad you could be with us this is without question the featured matchup in college football today and Gary this will be a true big boy football game it really is when you're talking to all the guys and the coaches sometimes players in Mardin football have to try to find the action well the actions gonna find them it is really measure yourself out here against a really great competition and we do have two of the best quarterbacks in all of college ball going head to head they will once roommates here at Georgia it's Erin Murray for the Bulldogs starting his 45th game Zach Mettenberger coming back home as the leader of LSU will develop that story throughout the day but talk a little bit about their respective talents certain these games are always high pressured for quarterbacks but I think it's even more pressure in this football game you know both of these guys they came here to Georgia together you know the pressure is going to be on each one of them to try to show they're the guy I mean for Zach and Erin Murray in this one where Zach grew up watching football and Erin Murray is now the quarterback for Georgia it's going to be pressure packed and which one of those two guys is going to make the plays in the fourth quarter you know it's going to come down in every sense this is going to be a heavyweight battle in fact live at Sanford Stadium and coming on the field first the Bulldogs of Georgia they won 14 straight in mark Rick's 13 years 65 and Sanford Stadium behind them led by Les Miles JC Copeland first out the Tigers of LSU 29 straight wins in September and make note of this all-time LSU has won seven and lost only six here against the Georgia Bulldogs let's go down to Tracy we just talked about how this is going to be a heavy weight fight how did you prepare your team for the physicality that we're about to see well we just practiced that where we try to play that while we try to think that way but we know they do too it's going to be a great battle we appreciate it thanks a lot yes [Applause] no hiding like we've said I mean mark knows he's been telling us all week that he's been preaching to his team that if you don't want to stand up there and be a man unless she's gonna run right over you the first team that smells any weakness in Windows - well Tracy Wolfson Tracy ninety two thousand plus on hand at venerable Sanford Stadium just a brilliant late September afternoon as LSU takes on George they have won LSU that is the last two games just perfect 75 degrees a slight breeze and continued sunny skies James Harrison will kick-off Reggie Davis true freshman about to make his first kickoff return of the year he did catch a 98-yard pass last week that was Erin Murray's 100th career pass touchdown Hairston for LSU this will be his 31st kickoff 20 of them have gone for touch backs LSU won the toss and deferred [Applause] and he chases this one all the way through the end zone and so the Bulldogs will state a start on offense Aaron Murray making his 45th start every game he's played since his first game is a freshman here at Georgia was out of practice Thursday burn and he had a brilliant day was like watching a Drew Brees practice many years ago the ball really never hit the ground every checkoff was sound he was in complete focus on Thursday for this game already with two undergraduate degrees he was in graduate school and dropped the course load because he was taking 12 hours it was just a bit much [Applause] that's his outside he's chased an Alabama substantial game on first down start starting lineups presented by chick-fil-a [Applause] gates Leandra's burnett and houston go back his hips and Colton Houston will develop his three-year battle to become eligible here this is his first year to play a complicated book has a nice and here's girl to the 40-yard the 15 yard pass cats from Erin Murray defensively Rascoe Johnson Eagle Ferguson the Neal hunter Guan Alexander starts for the injured toss Jones and we'll talk a little bit more about the honor of wearing number 18 this year it goes to limine Baro it's a week and he is a real threat that tight in right there he gets a little stop and then into the middle of the field in its goes left breaks the tackle on Alexander picks up on that visual four yards after that miles still a placid demeanor this is the first drive of the game girly really running well early on the Verizon red zone offense 19 trip so far 13 touchdowns national average is 63% it's a great combination an experienced quarterback and a load of tailback get the three watch to the right side [Applause] stiff-arm Alexander who attempted to make the tackle eagerly is brought down after for pound pound pound play-action that was made they DJing welter number 31 the middle linebacker for LSU [Music] plenty of tights and Michael Bennett in the slot one of his favorite players to go up top with number 82 Chris Conley is the wide man bottom of the screen [Music] there he is the Michael Bennett Georgia [Applause] Michael Bennet missed most of last season with a torn ACL he was injured in the fourth game of the year marshal Morgan to the extra part it's just Verne not only did they have their best tall receiver that Erin Murray loves to go to Bennett and he's got a matched against a safety in craig'll Austin I mean this is basically checkers you got your best receiver on a safety King me [Applause] [Music] [Applause] well that was impressive for love seventy-five yards in eight plays it took 320 giorgia by seven everybody wearing red feeling pretty good about things right now most impressive opening god for Georgia and kicks it to the 1-yard line Dell Beckham jr. a dangerous return man counter punches out across the 30 to the 34 and now one of the main themes of this afternoon's game Zach Mettenberger he grew up ten miles south of Athens Watkinsville signed first in the class of the spring of 2010 they suited guilty to two misdemeanor counts of sexual battery was dismissed from his team and his Jimmy has brought him back here with the first carrot Leonard Floyd number 84 makes the tackle also Jordan Jenkins burn took it on right at the point of attack he's the one Jenkins that had to take on Copeland that'll be a story all game can the linebackers [Applause] receivers now the tight end comes way wide to the left Mettenberger as Jarvis Landry that's his 25th catch in four games in one possession that's good for a gain of 10 well we talked about the use of the LSU defense this is not exactly a senior Laden team one three two freshman starting one of whom is trained Matthews at a safety position this time bill is cut down Jeremy Hills coming off a career-high rushing effort 184 yards in that rain-drenched win at Tiger Stadium last Saturday night second down and seven and burn on his drive for LSU it's a little different for this season this is they were one of eight teams that had it trailed all year that's the first time that LSU has trailed in the season 2013 play-action Mettenberger rolling right being chased by Jenkins and that one intended for Beckham this tipped away by Damien Vaughn number five [Applause] did he get his arm on Beckham well oh I think so I think I'm interesting at the LSU bench very and let me get all the way down there to argue with that side because was correct sir they're down seven this LSU team has played so well on the road as you saw with that graphic here comes the Blitz Mettenberger across the middle got a man it's Katherine Boone of all people and he strolls in untouched 48 yard touchdown only his second catch of the season [Applause] so much emphasis on Beckham Junior and Landry and here comes Catherine Boone who is a senior and has played a lot but not so much apart listen you've got a ex NFL coach and Cam Cameron who's - don't bring the quarterback Zach Mettenberger and in this case Georgia just gave away the coverage it was way too easy Cody say kicks the extra point inside the right upright another look Damien Swan had the coverage but it was tipped off early right here with the safety coming up way too early he knew it from the get-go Babb technique by Swann taking an outside technique and real real slip simple there are these guys are too good even with mugger coming in there on blocked he knew he had a touchdown pass the whole way [Music] now that was impressive got it both seems impressive on their opening possessions offensively both quarterbacks impressive in their initial possessions in this games fun football watching this stuff I'd say well coached players high-level players you make a mistake it's like serving one of those 93 miles fast balls arm it that Marie is picked off and LSU has great great field position well LSU only rushed three players on this play and then one of the three who rushed Anthony Johnson dropped a tronics punch Anthony Johnson they're only going to be three of um excuse me I tried to Center that up Anthony Johnson comes in says he's Kia kiddo when he goes over all I might as well pack up trying to get the ball to Marshall and he backs right up into the play and so here's LSU at the 34-yard line in a 7 7 ballgame and off jeremyhill bangs over the left guard ronique Wilson who leads this team in tackles made that one 2006 going through Zach Mettenberger head after that touchdown pass just think how long he's waited to throw a touchdown passing this Stadium I mean probably since he's been six seven year old kid he saw his first game here as a seven-year-old and I think most of you know that if you're a casual college football fan perhaps you don't his mom Tammy has worked in the Georgia athletic of Oconee high school then Marie from Tampa sign second they were actually roommates for one semester along with offensive guard Dallas League Verizon red zone Josh Harvey Clements cut through wasn't Travis Dixon right here a tight in lining up why that forces a linebacker to go out with them meet Wilson has run out there with Dixon Mettenberger no pressure touchdown Catherine Boone's second of the ballgame [Applause] all set up by the interception from Anthony Johnson that was great I controlled by Mettenberger he had 3 players covering - - when with one pretty easy Vern who would you throw the other guy right yeah I think there's della loosing on for the extra point and that little sliced or didn't it as it did if Ishaq Wiggins a freshman safety who was defeated on the play [Music] Mettenberger is now throwing two touchdowns in this game you take a guy with a lot of talent and you teach him take the gray out of it a lot of people can do what Zack and who could imagine him blessed old Tracy all he has to do is do his job nice job so far I think and Cam Cameron in his first year as offensive coordinator told us last night he's given too much credit for Benton burgers fantastic start to this year but it's hard to ignore that coming into this game the fourth game and five hits came two years ago Mettenberger has thrown four touchdowns two interceptions is Reggie Davis sandy [Applause] with the two touchdowns he's 12 touchdowns one interception now if you're a Florida fan you're saying okay since the Florida win two years ago in 2011 we have been on fire at home scoring points they've averaged since that game 45:17 scoring more than 40 points all the two games they should be now they've got barely a tailback and he's pretty good speaking of Georgia Craig lost him that's a game of 24 this time Dias is in number 71 replacing coal from used to number 75 you're gonna shift around keep their guys very fresh in this football game long game first down 10 two and a half to go on the opening quarter where he finds Michael Bennett oh yes [Applause] andddd coming back from a in Jersey lasted surgery missed those last half - last year you can tell that he is the guy that erinmarie feels comfortable with throwing that ball in the middle of coverages [Applause] there's been a getting in the slot top of the screen goes deep [Applause] might have been victimized for the second time [Applause] you're seeing two players that will play on Sunday Marshall Morgan with the extra card Marie answers [Applause] Kris Gartland the touchdown pass beautifully thrown for very nice piece at the end of the end zone and to reiterate the Mettenberger signed first in the recruiting class of oh nine Murray second and you know a known I an interesting story that's that you're Joe Cox was the quarterback remember Georgia started out one and for that year the suspension of AJ green and Mark Britt was telling us that you know Mettenberger was a little gangly R at that time not ready Erin Murray would have played but he had a sore arm right was not ready to play so they went the whole year with joke out that Murray's playing this year because they didn't burn the red shirt until now I got Beckham if kickoff return he's got some across the 27 and then rudely that journey is interrupted by Costa Bob les who has been a special team standout for Georgia flora final minute first quarter back-and-forth 14:14 Konnor neighbors is in it pull back that's neighbors coming bottom of the screen that burger across the middle gray [Applause] Wow this hates say it I mean it's almost unfair I mean right now cam Cameron is de Brabant plays from the Baltimore Ravens ship the full-back out against the deeps don't see the two deep safe please drop it off to the running rack and Ray Rice I mean Jeremy takes that ball and goes for it well train Matthews made the mistake of tackling here there's cam Cameron in the middle of the screen brilliant play calling boy they're games with their quarterbacks he'll cut and tackle what we talked a lot about Metin burgers his shoes Les Miles had a team vote as to whether that getting back on the team allowing I'm surprised they said yes [Music] we're back for the second quarter Verne Lundquist gary Danielson Tracy Wolfson Georgia and LSU this one has lived up to its billing great play by the quarterbacks great play by the running backs good tactical plans by both coaches and we start number two second down five Louisiana State from midfield No well with the exception of that ploy we've seen a lot of offense today seems to me Gary we've come a long way since LSU 9 Alabama 62 years ago how do you explain the profusion of points in the SEC the chip well I just think better play and more coaches dedicated to offense but experienced at quarterback like this game I mean you've got too many fell quarterbacks for NFL receivers coaches would believe in their quarterback and they're willing to call the plays I mean it's a perfect storm and then tuck that off the two defenses last year they had 15 players combined drafted in the NFL exactly Flitz up the middle same place yes parents McGee spelling jeremyhill and running back he bore the brunt of the first tackle and then this one because of the Blitz it was Leonard Floyd that put the pressure on and forced that ball out before he wanted to Navarro was the guy who defended it very nicely Jamie Keane is the new putter for LSU everybody across the country grew familiar with the awestruck when he's gone this guy can check too huh yes fair catch taken at the 9 yard line by Damien Swan this LSU team is allowing 1.2 yards per punt return [Applause] [Music] there's one point there's another nice Barrera all right Tim thank you it's 14 all let's go down to Tracy Wolfson well guys you saw it it was that left ankle they took his shoe off they looked at it they taped it with a little black tape and then he jogged into the locker room which was pretty good news except I was just now all right tres thank you and jogging with a noticeable lift Keith Marshall will carry the load gift and john chavis doing his signature bear front three alignment inside defense rock it defends he loves to go to when the other team is able to run the ball and Georgia is the first team that's been able to run the ball in this game they're now over a hundred yards rushing you look at the rushing game for LSU nothing so far when you factor in the sacks they're what four yards rushing the whole game so LSU has not been able to hunt first sense of a weakness in the game tell us you can't stop - time and Reggie Davis gets a gift nice read by that via Erin Murray but that time Ronald Martin just you know did not play it well you got to stay deep and come up on the short pass spotted at the to keep in mind Todd Gurley is on the bench with an injury Marshall gives the running back swinging left including Bret McGowen number George has a timeout they can run the wall [Applause] surges forward did he get across he apparently did not plenty of time they can keep that in their pocket and run one more quick play if they can get off they kid and if they do that quickly they still have a run pass option here 26 seconds to go giorgia heck of a draw see if they used the time up there they can't really run the ball again it's too dangerous to half put in but by getting up there quickly and momentum going going into these last 30 minutes well hopefully you start out playing good defense they're giving us good field position and you know getting us in a position where we can keep the momentum offensively as well but you know those Darrent they're a championship team over there they've won SCC s and national championships in the last a little bit so they're probably exciting the ride over there they're Locker them so we better get ready appreciate it thanks so much well these two teams have met three different times in the SEC championship game in Atlanta most recently I hitting guys we haven't had one point like that in this football game well they do aren't up in the eye to start the second half that copeland is the full-back Mettenberger goes deep left side nice defensive play out there Wow that's the freshman Brandon Langley [Applause] times out right and that was that time a perfect play to the outside that's how you play defense Langly one a three true freshman starting defensively from suburban Atlanta the city of Marietta Georgia see the stats on Mettenberger 10 of 16 it's going to be tough to see I mean Zach Mettenberger is it going to be up to him to do the whole game on his back they will run the draw this time up the middle big hole and kill gallops for 11 yards and a first down let's take a look Gary at first after Trev well you know there's been a little bit of pressure on Zach Mettenberger he's nothing but some nice plays Aaron Murray had that great last Drive to finish over off the first half the rushing game has been the start they're really been able to run the ball Georgia being able to run the ball and as I said 13 yards that I mean when you factor that if you're LSU earn the tapes that LSU watched was the Alabama game last year SEC lbm rushed for 350 Nebraska in the bowl game 204 clemson to open 197 in South Carolina losing rushed for 226 13 yards that's not going to get [Music] the wanna scrimmage and is inside the 35 yard line [Music] a true freshman on the too deep and 12 players made their first career start both of these squads have relied on the freshman class LSU has played 14 so far Georgia 13 third pressure from the NA a Leonard Floyd number 84 as well and enforced the throw hi Jenkins and 84 Floyd Beckham's slipped on the play but I think the ball was too hot I don't think we had been caught no matter what [Applause] Marie will take a knee you cannot stop it we called it today that this is a game where you got to measure up and you take measure in this gang I'll tell you both quarterbacks measured up well the dream evolved into a bit of a nightmare for Mettenberger but boy what heart it was and the park there as well [Applause] and let's go down to Tracy who's with a couple of people who played a rather significant role in this game well guys a very emotional scene here coach I see you're tearing up what did you just say to Erin Murray they're still most proud of them you know booth those quarterbacks played their tail off very impressive but just so thankful you also had a great moment with Zach Mettenberger what did you say to him tell him the same thing out of him hell of a player this caps off a ridiculous September your team had what does it say about this team and where they stand right now I just love them a part of them the coaches these fans are unbelievable no one does it better than Georgia thanks a lot god bless everybody on this on this in this stadium thank you so much and these fans weren't really amazing and this is what quarterbacks dream of what can you say about your effort again that Mettenberger is effort today it wasn't me verse AK it was University Georgia versus LSU in and I just took five of our guys for fighting hard all day long on offense defense we've been through a lot this the season so far make it's hard to believe it's only been four games and and this is one tough tough team and I'm just so proud of my guys right now what does it say about your team though where you guys stand and and your hopes and dreams for the rest of the season we feel like we have everything in front of us still we just got to keep working keep getting better and keep winning we appreciate the time congratulations enjoy it thank you all right Tracy corvax really led their football team and those two guys you know they've gotten their share of criticism through their career they hung in together and that's why I think you saw that emotional Mark Richt with his quarterback and so it was the come from behind took a little over two minutes
