have a question hello my name is Rob Brydon I just want to say first of all this is fantastic and we're loving it my question is is Neil Diamond your real name yes honest-to-goodness name and I've become so bored with it by the time I was making my first record that I decided to change it because Neil Diamond is a boring name if you grow up with it and people call you it for your whole life you want to have something with little pizzazz to it so I came up with two names that I thought might help me catch on in showbiz and the first which I thought was very very cool very rock and roll was ice cherry Icee CH Arry I tried my autograph with it a number of times it worked beautifully Noah Kaminski with that worked fairly well a lot of letters in Kaminski succinct but I I ultimately stuck with my name because my grandmother was anxiously awaiting the arrival of my new record she she loved me very deeply when I was just kneel and she gave me this gift before she left she said your name is good enough and use it and and I did so I miss you Paris I miss you music playing your childhood well my parents were music lovers in the sense that they loved ballroom dancing it was their passion they didn't really go out and and dance but to the live bands because it was expensive but my parents at night after dinner would put on a record and dance we didn't watch television my brother and I watched our parents dance they were joyful in their love of dance and of music and they shaped my early beginnings of my passion for music they told me it was a good place to be thank you so much for those questions I'd like to do a song called cherry cherry [Applause] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] we [Music] what I'm saying [Music] please [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] stand still while of music [Music] [Music] [Music] Neal Tim Rice night Jim hi there I love your work amazing I just wanted to ask you as you've written hit songs for over 40 years is it easier to write them now than it was back in 1966 well you tell me is it easier to write wonderful lyrics that you've written now than it was when you were 19 right I think you get better technically and you get more expertise but it's sometimes hard to find the passion and the emotion you need to write with a composer who will supply the passion emotion and I volunteer and the answer for me is that is always difficult because you want to create something beautiful and then that's not an easy thing to do as you know and I continue to work because I see smiling faces knowing the reason yes sir ricky gervais all right I like spicy most of your songs are a great body of your songs deal with love and either the the joy of a new romance or the torments of a romance come into an end can I ask you do you have any kind of catalog of songs that you've never recorded perhaps when you're in the middle of a really mundane relationship you know like picking up dry cleaning you just thought it's really not worth recording but I did feel like that I've written a lot of mundane songs that will never be heard I've written songs I wrote a song called measles but then again I did write write a song about a breakfast food that's one of my favorite songs and I still do it in the show it's called crunchy granola sweet dreams you can change anybody's habits but I got a good song out about it was very happy I think me uhm you could really do something we conflict this is a song for the new album it's a very sly wicked song I'm a little embarrassed by it but it does feel good to sing it's called don't go there and we'll try it out [Applause] [Music] she wants to take just a little bit further now because if you littering she's gonna take it away me anything then what you don't see [Music] belongs to if you let her play with you know what did those a jig [Music] nowhere [Music] my shoulders [Music] decide which way [Music] stopping just take care [Music] don't say I didn't warn you now [Music] maybe time to stop thinking again you're nothing but loving you think that you'll find it soon [Music] put it away in the bank and save it father jor-el a cheaper film he paid a price when your heart has been miss be [Music] don't go there [Music] [Music] it's a lesson in survival you learn it's not too late [Music] don't you win don't you here's a to that's unfair [Music] [Music] [Applause] many singers get sent some strange things I know you have a very large following from the Dimond heads why is it that they send you frogs well I did a song once a long time ago called I am I said and it was about a frog or drink so since then I've received thousands of photographs pictures drawings embroidery little statues of frogs and we have a place in my recording studio which we call fragra tour iam and is just hundreds of these things that people sent in so having learned from that I'm now working on a song about rolls-royce's [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] girl is fine the Sun shines most agile and a feeling is laid-back Bob trees grow and rinse in Lord you know I keep thinking about making our way back when I'm New York see born and raised nowadays unlost between two shots [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] taking it slow love don't know [Music] medias [Music] [Music] you got [Music] your start [Music] say it now late now [Music] [Music] [Music] got away [Music] just stop [Music] play it now [Music] we got on we'll see [Music] thank you things going I think I'm gonna recognize someone was a question yes sir my name is Craig Revel Horwood and I have to say that you are a true inspiration you really really are the reason because of your music so dance you may dance really important in my life and that brings me to my question you've danced with Princess Diana yes the White House and my question is simply this what would she like to dance with she was extraordinary she was she was an extraordinary person to begin with she was a real human being she was sensitive and it was an honor of course and she asked me I never would have had the nerve to ask that lady to dance or speak to me or even look at me to be a fan and she asked if it was proper in the United States for a lady to ask a gentleman to dance and I said of course and we danced and it was like holding a feather and moving to the music of the gods and I don't think she'll ever be forgotten certainly not by me hello Michelle hi Michelle hello some of your songs are about love what's the most romantic thing you've ever done I fell in love with a girl when I was a teenager and I didn't have anything to give her and so I decided to write a song for her just out of pure love for romance I was so foolish but I was a monster and I wrote a song about bills and getting married and and and I sang it to her and she married me yes hey Neal Alex James congratulations after 40 years in the business you're ensuring your first number-one here and in America yes how'd you feel about that terrible my record I mean it's like it's now everything is gonna go to pot it's just fall apart because I hollered around number one so many times but it's wonderful so we have another song now and it's is the title track of our new album which is called home before dark and it's possibly my favorite song on the album and I would like to do it for you tonight [Applause] [Music] home before dark
