a 2 000 watt power inverter a friend of mine um asked us could I have a look at this um apparently somebody who he knows connected it up the wrong way uh to a battery and blew it up and since bought another one I'm just going to bend this one so um he says oh he says I know just the guy who could have a look at that and here it is so we shall get it out the box and uh see if we can repair it it's quite a big unit foreign connects I've got a nice uh LCD type screen there and I guess those are the outputs complete with their USB all right I suppose a better rare see how it comes apart and how we get into it I think I'll start by taking the screws out of this side and we'll see how we go on foreign case which you know this it is a splits in the middle here here we go nice [Music] sure I'm trying to plug this display a second foreign fuse down there actually there's a few fuses there's one there there's one there and there's one I've got two two there two there and two there actually there's another two down here there's no video in this right a little bit I thought we'd have more in it so than there I would have scored in which is a little bit awkward to uh working I'm gonna check your rare a little coil there for measuring the current on the output I think I'll start off by uh just checking some of these fuses foreign all that one or that one all that one or that one so it looks like all of the fuses have gone and I wouldn't I think that's a good sign right so how do we remove this board it looks like we've got some um screws along this Edge holding these transistors up against the side and there's a couple on this one I think I'll try and get this uh control panel out of the way completely like that foreign start by removing the rest of those screws there's any screws on the bottom no nice and just flip it around so I can get the other screws out and it looks like the board slides out all right got this bit of case out of the way and let's have a look at this so where does the power come in and it looks like it comes in there and there and it looks like we've got some transistors here here here here and over here so we shall start by uh checking those just to see what's happening that one actually looks okay foreign which I'm surprised yeah let's see that one well the transistors appear to be okay um just checking for shorts on there components components over here just to see not everything actually appears to vr8 I wonder if it's just all the fuses I've got on this now they're mosfets most because it is um at the CG and I can see s ort I guess the middle one is the dream a little bit of a temperature sensor just uh floating about there I would have thought that would have to be in the heating or something just seems a bit uh a bit random it just floating about there I've got some diodes here I wonder if they're loads of protection diodes that I've gone now where do those go to from I go from there to there and they actually look alright as well I've got any protection diodes on this side it's a little bit hard to see um I don't see any just want to check those fuses again just at the back there just in case there's nothing on there nothing on there nothing on there I'm nothing on there all right so I think we need to remove those fuses and that actually looks where the power comes in so I wonder if there luckily if the fuses have just blown and it's actually saved it I was expecting a lot more damage than what I found so far so it might be quite an easy repair this one let's find some shoulder Wick because it looks like there's a fair bit of sold at the take off this I might actually have to go and use the larger solder hand I don't know if we'll have enough water jar on this one there seems to be a struggling I think the board has dissipate in all of the Heat so I might have to resort to the uh the other bigger solder name I've got right I shall uh hook that up and be back in a more all right the onions hot we should give it a go one eternity later so after a fair bit of struggling I managed to get uh all of the fuses removed and as you can see the rare they're all blown which is uh what we thought so I've got some new ones I'll get rid of these broken ones all the way a sec and I've got some uh new ones there so we shall solder those in start at uh I say because it's easier to get through it's not a very good uh idea I haven't fused us fuses saw that in though let's get these two lined up as well and then we'll solder them in all right now these don't seem to want to solder or something [Music] see if that makes any difference oh they appear not to be wanting the shoulder I have a feeling that these are aluminum which uh is not going to work so I think I'm gonna have to get some different fuses it's typical isn't it yeah aluminum I don't know whether most of these shoes are aluminum actually thinking about it because I know when you get them in their car fuse boxes when they get a bit uh corroded they tend to go a bit white and powdery so I would suggest that they are aluminum I managed to get the um rework station to desolder them by turning it up just about full so all right yeah that's definitely so that isn't sticking to those so those are definitely aluminum all right I'll have to see if I can get some different fuses and then continue from there a few moments later well I wasn't very happy solder and fuses back onto the board because I mean it's I don't think they should have sold our fuses onto the board and anyway that should be in you know the idea of a fuse is if it blows it should be easily replaced not you've got to take a board out and then starts trying to desolder it and everything else so um and like I said the fuses that I had appear to be aluminum they wouldn't solder anyway so what I've done I've found some uh Spade connectors I've had to put a bit insulation of them because I didn't have the insulated ones and I've extended where the fuses go so now the fuses can actually sit on the top of the circuit board and I'll just cable tie them in so I'll slide this back into the enclosure which may take a little bit doing so I'll not record that bit and then we'll continue from there I've put the unit back in the case and I've put the heat sinks back on so now all we've got left to do is to put the front back on put the job back on and test it all right so I've got the uh current a Samsung ones foreign I guess this is the output a plug that went in there fog of the edge of the display panel and that was this way up that's plugged in down there if I can get it in like that make sure that's all the way around plug back in all right then ready to test so I've got the bench power supply set to 13.8 volts at 6 amp because I don't want to put too much into it just in case it does go pop so I think that was just the capacitors uh charging up I don't see something on the screen there actually AC out 239 volts frequency 50 hertz temperature 18 degrees so yeah I think that's it um what I might do is see if I can find a load just to plug into something like uh a lamp or something just so we can actually test that it is uh working properly a one moment please I am back with a Kenwood can opener I thought well it's not 240 volts uh I'll switch this on I've got it rigged up with the bench power supply still and I've got this plugged into the front of the inverter now let's see in there Lord seven two seven percent so yeah that's it then all fixed all working I bet me uh friend will be quite happy with these uh free and two thousand watt pure sign inverter right then if you enjoyed this video please give it the thumbs up if you want to see more like it please subscribe any comments or questions
