that's the Fighting Irish of add the last two times the number one team visited South Bend 1988 the number one ranked Miami Hurricanes came to town and Notre Dame jumped out to a two touchdown lead Miami battled back needing to convert a two pointer for victory but fell short and left their number one ranking in South Bend 1993 the Florida State Seminoles also came up short and left their number one ranking behind today number one ranked nebraska pays a visit to South Bend and Irish pays for a buoyed by the fact that the Cornhuskers are winless in three previous visits and their coach Frank Solich is on three on the road against ranked teams can the Irish continue to build on past glories or will mystique aura and tradition fall short against the power and speed of Nebraska [Music] it is only week number two but there's a bowl fight atmosphere here at Notre Dame at over 80,000 fans are jam-packed this is storage Stadium in South Bend Indiana hi everybody Craig Minervini with Pat Haden great to have you with us here at Notre Dame the Fighting Irish come off a huge win last week against number 25 Texas A&M but indeed the ante is raised big time this week against number one Nebraska in a matchup that links the college football all the way back to of the all-time greats certainly fat it's a hot ticket here today and the Irish are looking for odd hand in their backfield they're really looking for a spark from Julius Jones today the sophomore tailback who will get his very first start big stage for Julius but he's really played well in this year and a half here at South Bend a Bob Davie said we need some home runs out of him today that's why they'll get the start he's the most dynamic player they need a couple of big runs of Julius when you look at the Cornhuskers the prototypical Nebraska player is probably the offensive lineman you know we don't always talk about quarterbacks and you know wide receivers we should be talking a lot about offensive linemen today and Nebraska has a linemen they deserve to be talked about these guys are stars they you know 500 5 yards rushing last week none yard lost in the rushing game you know at the end of the game maybe the quarterback gets the MVP but the offensive line really set it up they are the cogs but the key to the machine is certainly the quarterback Eric Crouch we may have to slow mom today to keep him in focus because this guy can flat-out flow simply put he is a legitimate Heisman Trophy candidate not his first trip to Notre Dame he came here as a junior in high school nurse summer camp was the fastest player in that camp he's probably also their toughest and most competitive and Notre Dame does not want to see him carry the ball on the edge of the defense the Fighting Irish are getting set to take the field as the hundred and fifty first consecutive sellout here at Notre Dame Stadium the fans running for what should be an exciting matchup a good chance for the Irish to try and keep that mystique alive against the Cornhuskers the crowd is a bevy of not only Notre Dame fans here fat but also Nebraska fans as well a lot of red in the ground I have never seen so much opposing color at Notre Dame Stadium in 25 years there is some green here too but some of the fans will be arguing back and forth rooting for their team as the Irish gets late [Music] the opening kickoff is coming up in just a moment we'll be right back after these words from your local station [Music] number 23 Fighting Irish let's go down to the sidelines with our bombers ujin and the head coach of the Fighting Irish all right Craig thanks very much coach you said all week the key to stopping Notre Dame stopping Eric Crouch how do you do it is the star Barrett cross there's no question about that and that's that's easier said than done and you know what we've had a chance to practice against an option style offense we certainly know what's coming our kids just have to go out and execute and play you know I told our team we don't have to be the best team in the country today all we have to do is be the best team in this stadium today and I think we're going to give great effort I'm excited about this challenge how about Arnez battle last week now moving forward to this week a different kind of opponent last week's over it's all about one game at a time here at Notre Dame I talked to him before the game he's confident he feels good so let's put the ball down let's go see what happens i coach good luck thank you very much great back up to you thank you Bob the weather for this afternoon here at Notre Dame 80 degrees a lot more comfortable than a week ago it is still humid 67 percent little bit of a wind mostly cloudy over the stadium and the fans here it is shocking as a regatta players getting ready because Notre Dame might feel a little bit like they're in a road game a very unusual thing to say right here at the home stadium Nebraska had over 4,000 tickets allowed in Qaddafi's yeah he picked up but some Notre Dame fans sold their tickets though today right now it's incredible more red than green gives you a real bow type atmosphere in that respect as well Notre Dame will receive the kickoff we'll do the kicking for Nebraska making his 2000 debut today is a sixth year senior here we go David Gibbons on return for another name that's a whole could of cutting thinking [Applause] well bob davie said to us yesterday meaning we have a chance on a kickoff return it should be a good play for us today 20 driver number 25 lead the way Wendy got a cube rock on number 16 Sweeney taught to allow number 6 David Givens to get the outside and again special teams can really set you up in great field position and they can win a ball game for you particularly good playing against an opponent like Nebraska well fake return know starting at the 41 yard line the junior Arnez battle in his second career start the stakes are raised this afternoon nearly picked off incomplete the Barra Holloway was the since it's going to be a different kind of offensive game for the Irish a little bit more open than it was a week ago but Des Moines Adams number 98 did a great job of staying home they have two outside ends dist abrasca and do a great job of containment their job Adams and and Busch on the other side it just everything inside and hit every blue jersey who comes anywhere near yet a conservative approach last week when Devin Rogers interesting he's coming out passing right away this time to give Jenny his chance for a couple set up for third in about seventh a Notre Dame offense head coach Bob Davie the offensive line the one rookie to Center Jeff Veen the guys juniors and seniors receivers Arnez battle reads the way Jones getting this start offense kyboot solid fullback get the wall hunter good speed touchdown for hunter a week ago Holloway one of the block captain's a tight end third and seven the Blasted looking to hold here by flavor and a break for the irish because had he picked it off I might have gone from Nebraska is gonna play man for man all day long against these Notre Dame receivers and I don't think you wanna will be running foot brows and man-for-man a defense you wanted to run across the routes running away from the corners it's an easy play for Craven the ball was thrown late though almost a touchdown for Nebraska Joe hunter good week last week when Nebraska blocks a lot of kicks 10 last year they took block two field goal attempt a lot of guys up here in the line Bobby Newcombe is back deep former quarterback that also moves will pick it up the 15 up to the 20 mr. Thakur and special teams of football at least on special teams the Irish off to a good start Nebraska's starting offense led by their outstanding center to get a look at Dominic Raiola yeah he is a good shooter out of Hawaii and it's a tough front line that you talked about yeah the best of its in London America Vote Minami viola hopes teen and Schwab the backs receivers Crouch leads the way Willie Noah could blocking back for Jane Alexander quarter yard game last week Newsome Davis in Worcester Alex Payne I'm the 24 watts going deep first place man the wingback for a big beam of 36 on the first plane how about this Craig both teams which are power teams their first place our past place a beautiful fakie was that too tight end formation which they like to throw out of and bobby newcombe the quarterback from a year ago does a great job of adjusted first a great release you know making Brock Williams miss at the line of scrimmage was a key to that release and then he a real good adjusted to the ball terrific reception was battling plotz was the starter last year quarterback for a couple of games makes the big play for Crouch Alexander finds a hole left tackle and I could run for Nebraska another could pick up rod Williams on the stop a big Dan Alexander the senior out of Brazil thanks so much also handled the offensive coordinator support you look pretty the Irish defense Wever whiz deal agree and irons up front the junior is Weber the others are seniors Wayman Harrison Denman Denman's the leader online dr. Williams Walton driver and Israel Walton getting his second start at the corner and up up the Miller Dennis Alexander Gregg this this offensive system really has been in place for I don't know 30 years at Nebraska and it combines in a raw power which he just kind of saw there with some finesse in the option game and they gonna sprinkle in some passes and in a passing game they usually come up with a three or four big passes a game we've already seen one to Bobby Newcombe they are like a machine after scoring of five of the first seven on the option rolling for the Wistrom he was defended well on the play at that time by Brock Williams and Tony drive room he was rolling wide well Eric Crouch a mere ago was so 52% thrower but he is most dangerous when he's running the ball I mean this guy is a flat-out sprinter ten point four hundred meters in the in high school and I think the other thing he is just tough I mean he takes two shots bounces right up and run off 20 yards the next play and you have to if you're an option quarterback wait to the last moment this time he kicked Alexander and BJ Scott's left it out but those got for Notre Dame the senior from Indiana last week Nebraska didn't have one negative play that offensive line was that good but at that time great penetration by BJ Scott those are the kind of plays they need it looks like grant irons number 44 down of starting defensive end for the Irish clan had a problem last week he was dehydrated with the heat reaching over 115 degrees on the field he left in the third quarter they're gonna need a Notre Dame is gonna need a lot of defensive linemen today we'll tell you about Grant irons when we come back in a moment we're scoreless early on from Notre Dame [Music] Notre Dame football is praveen by champion official outfitter of Notre Dame football it takes a little more to make a champion by Chevrolet trucks the most defendable longest-lasting trucks on the road and by the US Army be a part of the toughest smartest in the world be all you can be [Music] Notre Dame game is a weekend of activity the Leprechaun at the pep rally last night that a movement to this stadium that so many fad here's a down to brass cadet to see off and third and 13 at the 31 fake again I'm Trevor pops gets away usually the Notre Dame defense again during the job it was Anthony Denman the outstanding linebacker otário Harrison gets to him first but again this is a very uncomfortable down for the brass third 13 didn't see it all last week saw it rarely a year ago Notre Dame decides to come with the Blitz Harrison the linebacker beats his man I got you know running back but a little move on him and addendum finishes him off lost seven yards two Pat's have no thought of a long field goal here don't think you don't see off in a punt from the breast Dan Hayden felt well boom it and trying to catch it too but he really did Kuhlman you can't punt that one the end zone that they gave too much yardage to to Notre Dame they didn't pick up many yards at all the exchange only about 16 warrants Notre Dame abroad offense from the 20 bans go in-depth on the Fighting Irish for Lobby on msnbcsports.com put on NBC's Notre Dame central which features player profiles game highlights audio interviews with coach Bob Davie and expert of course analysis Pat Haden msnbcsports.com the official website of NBC sports good opening defensive series for the Irish there's not a good offensive series on the first possession for Notre Dame option battle will keep they'll get about three yards in the play you're Amy Adams ready to tackle Regan if you have to play the number one team in the nation which Nebraska is and deserves it this is a good time if you're Notre Dame you're playing am at home you just come off a big win against Texas A&M and you know you playing them earlier we talked to that man Bob Davie about that yesterday he echoed those thoughts if you have to play a before yeah I prefer not to third player next week at the next year at Lincoln to open up the season second and six they gave him four from the 24 inside handoff Jones left tackle finds a little room he gets first down yardage he stopped on the play by DeAndre good run by Julius Jones a guy who can make something happen South Florida Virginia Irish like about Julius Jones is that always got the capability of breaking off 40 and 50 yard runs he's not afraid to take it inside good offensive line surge 52 of Fame Jim Jones the left guard number 55 bombers there but again a patient run by Julius Jones it doesn't try to make every run 40 yards but he's capable of doing it this is more Notre Dame football to the one who set up the pads they're trying to keep the Huskers out of battle again he's going after Dan O'Neill Carla's father spoke nearly got it that's almost - yeah three you're right I mean the last week aren't as battle didn't have anything nearly intercepted he's almost had three balls intercepted in this first quarter and number 13 right here Carlos book the end the inside linebacker I mean this guy is an active guy he's 260 pounds the boy can he move around he plays very close to line of scrimmage blitzes a lot for that time in pass coverage dr. Carlos was great he said I don't like that movie Rudy at all no they did not rent that at their local store this week second in ten [Applause] I think what would Bob Davie noise to do right now it's kind of settle Arnez battled down in in this passing game in particular and feed the ball to Julius Jones some maybe run a screen a draw something like that but right now he's he's throwing the ball a little wild and has been pretty good coverage by Nebraska talking it over might be a difference of opinion it is a big 12 big 12 brown home officials it is ball illegal procedure against the Irish will be backed up five yards looks like it was Kurt ballers yeah hurt volas down on the right tackle position moved early I was easy des moines Adams was rushing in one of the lighter guys up front number 98 he left rush in for the Cornhuskers as you noticed a angle in we'll talk about that copy unique defense of Nebraska everything is unconventional about these guys second and 15 battle passion over the game this time it is hooked on two walkers back woofer they're down at the 35 when Notre Dame fell they could not be as conservative as they were last guys the blue jerseys on a dead great coverage by Nebraska and mind you it's mostly man-to-man defense Joe Walker he's there Rover they called strong safeties most places but good rush inside bar number ninety then poke number thirteen gets his hand on and pork break their first he was the guy that really caused the intersection blocked an extra point last week so far less bulk has had a very good first quarter so first and ten 35 yard line Cox pitching out it's a code name in the play by Shane Walton flag down flags who down to the play [Applause] you know fat baby how many times over here no self-inflicted booze no self-inflicted wounds holding up Nebraska that will help the eye responds and here nearly got picked up a couple of times Pro Series get picked up after making some good defensive stops yeah and I think as we said trying to get your quarterback settle down there's a couple of ways of doing it get your running game going you get it get your running game going or you get a couple of screens in there to settle them down a little bit you know money absent again uncharacteristic kind of down in distances thus far for Nebraska's offense we saw the third and 13 a while ago its first in but 1990 now velasca coming off a 39:13 win over San Jose State then they did not go well defensively option Crouch this time pitching partners getting outside of about five yards in the play Brock Williams in Theriot Harrison linebacker made the stop both teams are playing a lot better defense than offense early this ballgame he's kind of sent to some good solid covers a good solid hits and your quarterback in the office it's always gonna take some hits load pitch the team that had 25 humbles a year ago many of those on option plays but good defensive play once again by Notre Dame again in its second and 14 Nebraska's used to being in second and for Grant irons by the way back in for more the day and after late in the bill right there yep second and 13 38 yard line going for the bomb way over Davison said he was putting inside Shane Walton was on the coverage on that pitch split end number three Matt Davison little bit surprised was that great offensive line Nebraska hasn't been mashed a little bit more yeah there was the penalty they got them back in first and main team but that is what they do exceedingly well Frank Solich the offensive coordinator as well as the head coach with a great offensive line going away from their normal personalities expected a little more from the Irish we feel like they half the full-featured third and 13 a Nebraska like the screen in here that's way back to fast sets up the screen buck-buck alder to the 40 they stopped him short of touchdown garbage morning drivers could stop the free state view thumbs up for career game ten tackles last week an interception his career-high Notre Dame's defense has made a state than I think in these first couple of drives Craig hey you're not coming in here to their stadium and getting blown out then you know Nebraska can overwhelm you early in a ballgame and I think even if Nebraska was on wednesday's ballgame I think Mel Brennan Notre Dame's defense has made a very early statement though it's and they're gonna go for it instead of trial will be about a 47-yard field goal you got to think Eric Crouch is going to carry this ball Josh Brown was one for four between the forty and forty nine a year ago doesn't have a good leg in terms of the distance and Notre Dame has taken a timeout on this big fourth in for early in the first quarter Notre Dame in Nebraska scoreless back to Nevada back in Notre Dame fake fortune for the Huskers are going to go for it back yeah fourth and four they have a two tight end set and Bob Davies very concerned about passing in this two tight end set the other thing they like is to get it to Bobby Newcombe on quick screens time and list from the far side tight in work and for some of the speed of Crouch I think he's short I think he's about a yard short it was a you know the old naked bootleg for Eric Crouch you see how tough he is with great speed broke one tackle but he's a yard short look like they had him about the 35 that is squeaked free but not enough and a third or Dame defense but a huge spot fake the ball up inside and a good head fake there by Crouch the defensive end stays at home that's Weaver then Anthony get me gets a pretty good shot at him then Tony driver once again has started off having a pretty good game here here's the first guy up here that's Weaver number 98 Rosen it'll then Denman there's two tackles missed two tough tackles and then driver number 25 finishes them all a pleasure to back in the Notre Dame offense after 26 it scores content battle on the gift Tony Fisher's stopped buying a lot of scrimmage or theirs after a tough start both were for win an interception again Scott Shanley is one of those so walk-ons from Nebraska you hear so much about and small-town sainted in Edward Nebraska 800 players or 800 people dreamed about playing at Nebraska since the second grade it's his first here's a started second at 11:25 are nasty pennies quickie - he's over in goblets he'll Craver finally got him being of a couple be a third and eight Karnas battle what an emotional story for him on his shoulders left shoulder he's got a picture of his brother who died at the age of please brother Brandon drowned in his grandmother's pool in November back in 1989 he slowly used to carry around wallet photos of young Brandon but would lose them and he had a tattoo put on his shoulder and memory of his brother person he thinks about everyday he said granny would be a freshman in high school today and probably a little bit of better player what a way to remember [Applause] [Music] completion it's a first down as David Givens makes the grab 8 yard pickup on a big third down plan David Givens is used in a lot of different ways here for the Irish that time just got a short on emotion didn't come across all the way the field knew exactly where the first down marker was he's a little bit like a linebackers got that kind of size 6-3 217 pounds they use him as a running back some good on special teams and could be a probably a tailback at most schools Gibbons had the 21 yard touchdown 21 yard catch by the last week helping out the irish cause in the comeback win against A&M battle on the option again he's gonna keep locked up around the 40-yard line by a host of Nebraska defenders it was a nice teller getting the credit for the tackle this is a print Bowl the defensive coordinator calls it kind of a you know an unusual unconventional kind of defense guys coming off the corners incredibly fast I mean they got some strength look at that fullback getting kind of hammered right there but it's really hard to get in any kind of running momentum or are against this Nebraska team because they penetrate so much you need a couple of big plays second a from the 40 yard line single setback it's pushing he's got it at the 40 up there 245 Joe rocker knock them out of ours we had a five yards that's a good pretty good player by Jill Walker strong safety for Nebraska I mean that thing looked like it was going to go for a good first down easily but this guy had an unbelievable year 1998 out of a highlight year and three interceptions one win for a touchdown at a 99 yard kickoff return a 73 yard punt return just an unbelievable year last word again a role for the push seven on third down one foot to you today it's third and three at the 45 yard line quick facts for Penske and fishing I was going to pass rather one nice leap efficient diving it's just beyond them pretty good coverage of the play by Randy Starr the linebacker who pulled out with Tony pitcher in completed another Dame will have to punt Notre Dame calls this their wheel route in last year Tony Fisher had a big year as a receiver 18 catches a couple of long catches four touchdowns out of this just wasn't throwing out and far enough to the side and I because he had the man actually beaten one of those who probably liked that backpack absolutely I think he said he wanted the ball slipped out of his hands he'll blow the punter cannot or should not punt his ball in the end zone Joe Walker is back deep Walker was senior but though will get it about the 30-yard line they just get the snap off it's a woman Walker's gonna let it go hope to take the husband pass but it doesn't seek alive for at least to play here for Notre Dame a 50-yard / it looked like he was playing with the pelota the way that thing backed up all right there they first attempt with Oscars hood would come back scoreless that go today [Music] one of America's most enduring corporate images the Goodyear blimp is floating overhead providing aerial views for today's game the spirit of Goodyear one of seven airships in the Goodyear blimp fleet could tear down a street went to the United States to in Europe one in South America and one in Australia one of the key early stats Eric Crouch to Russia's 4-3 yards this is the fourth all-time leading rusher on the Brasco as the quarterback it'll probably be the leader perhaps for the end of this year that the part of the 16 Russian touchdowns II wanna go Notre Dame's has well defensively in the first two series hops to hang up it's Alexander only a lot of two is again run the oysters Europe at the Notre Dame defense he's not getting caught up in any number one hype today ordinarily Nebraska's offensive line is so quick off the ball these guys and they just kind of you know get on you so quickly there's usually a huge rant running lengths but if you can get to you know if you can get the Alexander early in the run he doesn't have a lot of making miss only averaging one point eight yards per rush last week they average over eight yards in Alexander had a 208 Alexander again just a couple of the right tackle and again Anthony ten and his altar that I mean the leader on the defense for Notre Dame makes the stop that have bring up a food down and probably got six for the Oscars Nebraska generally is so effective by giving you this fullback or that power play inside and then they faked that fullback and get watch on the perimeter and in all the big plays come on the perimeter constant often but what Notre Dame has done is really taken that inside away Davison will flank out wide to the left the tight end on when saw the line his Erin Galileo thirty-six slotted back pots looking Davis enjoyed collected at the line that's incomplete his gran tires I think we've got his hand on it he's hurt Van Dyne as you may have heard his that looks like he hurt his shoulder a little bit but I'd say another three series yeah three good defensive series by Greg Madison's team really a good play by Grand arms had people at his feet it was going to be a quick out fought off the you know the the block down by his legs gets his hands up and tips a ball I think it interceptions too good play by his brother Jerry Leonard at Nebraska back in 91 Jerry stick on the game is here it's been a Vita former Husker [Applause] Julius Jones were getting that the 50-yard line got some room on the sidelines for me back down at the 45 yard line by the wrong place and position 41-yard punt for the 14 yard guys this man looks like just any old practice jersey T if you don't know Nebraska football but if you do note abrasca football you know what this is it's a black shirt this is the practice jersey given in ceremonies for all the starters for the Nebraska defense if so ceremonial and so traditional now that the coaches have a behind-closed-doors meeting where these are handed out to the Nebraska starters on defense including a video T presentation of different Nebraska players talking about how special it was when they got their black shirt for the very first time well right now the black stripes the catch for Monet's battle and the Blackshirts couldn't come up with a plane that time it's a big gainer of 24 for Notre Dame Janet on sir battles warming up second week in a row jayven hunter has become a power for the pop fake but sweeney was not fooled great adjustments by hunter that looks like as a penalty it's going to come back but nonetheless great adjustment and button and catfight Jaden hunter hold it against the Irish the others were celebrating no one saw the flag standing at around the 37 yard line and a tough break for Notre Dame on the Irish we need jordan black up here number 78 he has got him on the face mast at the hola Heimlich maneuver on Kyle van der Bosch the easy call but you have to take some shots against the corners as good as they are for Nebraska it's man-for-man bump and run all over the field you know man for paint all the way around there you gotta take a couple of shots got a feel good for battle even though they lost to ten to make the completion he's gaining confidence and here he goes again battle to the 45 battle is just getting a lot more comfortable running the offense big difference from the first series in the second series it's a long game there's gonna be a lot of you know negative kind of plays he's but he's gonna have to make ones like this and we're trying to settle your quarterback oh good runner like Arnez battle give him a chance to run the quarterback option quarterback draws what it is good call on that down foots been second and ten Bob Davie told us the big question he has he loves his quarterback Rosie's a young quarterback how does he overcome a mistake that's the issue and so far sign over come that early interception the defense did the job no points on the board for the basket way back throwing a fine Terrence Howard there in a screen it didn't really that's the play Notre Dame planned for a long time a screen trying to match up their back against Carlos pulped number 13 the middle linebacker for Nebraska I think pull surprises people you watch him you know walking around you see he's a big thick legged guy 260 pounds oh he can't run well he sure can run he covered that screen perfectly tipped you know he caused the interception a moment ago and this guy is a good at good for they are going five wide here on third and 11 of the 36 and there is some confusion trucks to the left twins to the right for Notre Dame pick the third that's what they're gonna say he was more of them it was more than before the snap good thought there was movement before this half I think I think where's the flag over there in the far side [Music] [Applause] tough break for the Irish is that play may have had first down written all over it it was late I saw I think was Jordan black moved early left tackle hey it was an easy call for the line judge set up third and 16 you look up here number 78 again moving early whoopsie-daisy yeah you know that you know those guys and of course you got him over yet you're anxious about his pass rush 6-4 to 60 and he can move to so third and 16 from the 41 spinning [Music] [Applause] and it is incomplete anyway but what incredible speed by Nebraska's defense though you know Randi Stella you saw him chasing Arnez battle number 3040 he should be on somebody's track team and he they called him an outside linebacker was a high school running back and he is unbelievable used to return kicks for Nebraska even it was playing linebacker explosive breaking Gale Sayers record long jump so forth and 16 year at the 40 Joey hope bug elector of his fun of the game so walking again back T about the 9 raka was calling for the fair catch the ball bounces to around the 17 Nebraska will take over right there good punt again good punt so the Huskers will go back on the air with 228 to go it's 0-0 and Notre Dame back in notre-dame let's go down to the sidelines again Ababwa shoes it all right Craig injury update on Grant irons the same shoulder that he injured earlier on the game has been refrained on that deflected ball play they've taken him back into the locker room to put a brace on that shoulder he told the doctors he desperately wants to get back into this football game and they're gonna see if that brace will help them do just that right now though the Notre Dame Fighting Irish defense out there without brand irons in the meantime junior Ryan Roberts will take over and thank you Bob at the white tackle spot I think this is a series I think I'll be surprised if Nebraska's offensive line really doesn't take some pride in this series and make something happen they've had three series and the defensive front of Notre Dame has won those three first three series they tend to wear on your body he was talking about how they imposed their will on you as the game moves along but so far the will has been coming from the Irish on Nebraska were just sixty-two total yards here's some wattage Buchalter taking it up near the 25 quick Russ Polk Stein number 55 was the right guard I mean he's put on leading the way folks die number 55 from Partington Nebraska right here he's gonna get out in front he's looking for a line back any any blue shirt he sees got a I've got a piece of Ron Israel but the thing about these offense mind they are big and powerful but they are very light on their feet Bunker's three four fifteen he's got Jeff Davies the fullback who will take the hand out and over 35 Chuck Davies the far back freshman with good garbage in a first down for Nebraska 13 yard gain yeah they give the the full bed the ball the full-back once every lunar eclipse you know they didn't carry it a lot in Nebraska but when they do it's pretty meaningful there you you pitched the ball you pitched the ball you run the ball outside then you kind of feed the ball of a fullback good cut by Judd Davies really it no one has more of a lead blocker Frank Solich said when he came in or a campus he knew what his role as a fullback was and that was to block is it a constant setup when you go against this goes into offense and they just send you one way and then you never quite know it's a little bit of illusion [Applause] keep you can see a motor going 15 freakin [Applause] no black 62-yard touchdown through after the plan the celebration hooked on to make it a long extra 40 most likely will have to win it must be a big game for Nebraska because they scored so many touchdowns the ordinarily don't get too excited so must feel like it's a big game will be on the kickoff believe that that's a that's a bad pendulum allows it allows you to go for an onside kick if you want it's going to pick up 15 yards on the the kickoff Josh Brown will kick the extra 40 at 6 - the last week gifted always active just comes with the territory you put on the big red it's good touchdown for that man Eric Crouch you know Eric Crouch he's gonna get a you know a lot of Pat's on the back for this run it was an indeed a good one but Russ Hoke Stein number 55 really cleared the way from safety off remember he just ran to pull back to play before they fake it to the full-back this time and then you used it first to power while actually the finesse of Crouch then the power then the speed so Crouch gives you three different elements and 400 meter sprint and that's that's the foul it's gonna it's a stupid foul on Shane Walton they'll cost you 15 you know if this is where I think hey you go for an onside kick you probably won't you find a room on the road you scored but think about Notre Dame is playing such a disciplined game so far that's exactly the kind of family that is just an absolute killer especially when the offense is going to be challenged to go down the field at 80 yards to begin with the Crouch can really get you frustrated cuz you feel like you're doing a good job defensively you know you're stuffing the running back your stuff in the full-back for the most part next thing you know he's going 62 yards against you you know he's he can be methodical and then he can be a bullet so much for two carries fat and minus three yards this is average now it's much is up their fourth all-time 25 rushing touchdowns for Nebraska he's just eight Shively all-time for mark for quarterbacks remember remember Notre Dame had a pretty good return on the opening kickoff and Bob Davie felt this would be a good play for him but angle to the tip on tours as well [Applause] is going to take it from a couple deep up to the 10th why do the about the 18 were drowned John Gibson made the spot Nebraska a long way to go the more Fighting Irish sports information log on to und comm will your part highlights in audio clips of Notre Dame football coaches and players Plus each week you and e.com offers fans a chance to submit questions to a featured Notre Dame player uld calm the official athletic site the University of Notre Dame Notre Dame needs one of those home run kind of runs that a Julius Jones that Bob gave me talk to us about yesterday says he's capable of doing it we need someone in this game get his emotion but thanks to the fullback in front of George who has the ball roster 20 22 yard line John Clanton those tackle backup made the stop runnable speed on this defense you know they have a little tough nose guard and Jason Lauren umber 70 he kind of locks down the middle Carlos Pope doesn't let much happen down the middle other than that boy they are just there's a track team second and six Jones book for children is just close to first down yardage got up to about the 28 yard shy per kick Finley number 19 really stopped what was going to be a pretty big run Clint Findlay number 19 play some Rover play some free safety for Nebraska was a starter a year ago and now with a concussion late in October this guy must be a great athlete he was a high school quarterback in Texas recruited by all the the big schools in Texas A&M and the University of Texas to play quarterback wanted to come to Nebraska and been a free and strong safety for them a very good one yeah he's a versatile guy watched Mike Brown the outstanding how many times will Mike Brown the war over from last year who moved on one thing about look it's about a poor torso here and a big third down they've lost six starters on defense and if there's one spot lower than felt like they had a shot it was to try and exploit some of the younger players or Nebraska's defense the law Steve Warren big 12 defensive tackle Aaron rose distorting Russian cup of the all-americans we mentioned and the Browns in the backfield Irish you're going to let the quarter run out perhaps we'll see if they snap it before they can let it run out of the should battles looking over the quarter does brought out Notre Dame new Nebraska is going to score a few let's see if they get their offense going when we come back for the second quarter it is Nebraska thanks to Eric Crouch leading Notre Dame's seven offing we'll be right back after these words from your local station [Music] this is 11 alive Atlanta's Olympic station quick Minervini back with pate bob was choosen in our NBC crew at Notre Dame Stadium getting started for the second quarter at you dude Nebraska at some point they're going to score some points Bob Davey told the staff I think he'd be happy giving up just 7 for 1/4 a little bit because they're gonna have to score obviously if the other day wants to do two things you don't want to get aren't as bad on the permanent but I ran across fumbles on defense and turnovers the Penske Nebraska offense had some trouble against the day-to-day defense in the first quarter but one play by that's why is a Heisman Trophy candidate and that's why he's playing quarterback you know a year ago we played some wide receiver they moved into quarterback they finished 12 and one that was after winning a couple of games with Newcombe starting at quarterback but they saw the skill of Crouch all along so did Bob Davie Julius Jones getting some yardage across the 35 no white jerseys around the ball carrier you notice then like yes I ants on a sugar cube and he wore Scott Chamblee was the big aunt right there the sophomore out of Nebraska watch my candy number 69 he's going to come around and then three white jerseys kind of engulfed 69 in the ball carrier in good team defense Craig Paul the bowl the new defensive coordinator there played for Nebraska in the late 70s and succeeded Charlie McBride after 18 years 11 starters from the state of Nebraska it's amazing when you look at their roster nobody there second and six not much happening for Lipinski up the middle I think it's one of the beauties of Nebraska program Craig is the kids just don't go out of state I mean the football players stay in stink Canyon State players starting for the Brandeis go football most be pretty good Nebraska Taylor you know Crouch is from the res Omaha in fact we talked with the players this week growing up in the state of Nebraska when you follow the team on radio the guys are saying when they were growing up it's such an honor to wear that in the view probably this hard to think of going anywhere else with root that cook Nebraska I think you gotta watch out for our next battle on the quarterback draw here third and six trying to break outside got good speed hits to the forty first down here the 50-yard line and this time there are no flags which has been hampering Notre Dame we penalty so far 14 yard game wasn't a quarterback dry was supposed to be a pass but Arnez battle felt some real quick early pressure found a little crease and like a running back like a tailback really found a little crease in that defense you can see some guys coming in here early then steps up in then out voids you know dips his shoulder move attack sees exactly where the first down marker is that's the key thing you haven't having the presence and the awareness of what you need to pick up a first down that's what on that battle did been on as contemplated going to Notre Dame but he grew up watching people like the rocket Jerome Bettis and he loved the tradition and the academic part of Notre Dame that's why he came here sharing site handoff slash for the open up a single and might have been up ahead on Jones right as he went down there first down yardage you know it's a nice run but I think Bob Davie was hoping for more and he said you're gonna get three or four chances for a home run against this Nebraska defense of the running game [Applause] against Nebraska and attack on five more yards to the play I was on Dion Booker the free safety number 14 for putting the corner screws at the 25 junior from Shreveport Louisiana handoff Jones breaks one tackle against a couple of yards initially hit by abandoned botch for Nebraska and here's the guy who's playing with the chip on a show Caliban a guy who you know came to a camp a summer football camp here at Notre Dame wanted to really be offered an early scholarship to come to the other day they didn't give him one and we talked to him earlier this reason he still remain he's bitter about that he had a chip on his shoulder looks like a professional wrestler with his goatee and shaven head he's a pretty good student 3.8 in finance he's got brains and brawn second and 9 for the 24 18 yard gain Arnaz battle terrific Cole by Kent Rogers haven't seen this yet the Irish this year it was a similar kind of play that Crouch ran tried to run for a first down little inside fake Jay Johnston number 11 downfield doing a good job of stocking Craver number three but good call great execution a misdirection play again when you're playing against such a quick defense as Nebraska's misdirection will work well the passing hasn't been impressive for the coaches for the two four five four Crouch 1 for 8 for a battle but both of those guys doing a terrific job we're looking at looks like Mike Gandy he's the right tackle a senior out of Garland Texas slow to get up here he's played very very well last week Andy number 69 the right guard here's a terrific inside faith remember you just had a Julius Jones with a big run everybody bites on that good steel block on the outside good block downfield by Johnson the wide receiver gives you first 69 is there looks like he just planted on his right foot came down awkwardly but just jogged off the field so it looks like he'll be able to come back in the ball game Mike Gandy is their best offensive lineman at a terrific game last week against Texas A&M Sean man junior will back a lot left guard number 79 most of the rushing yards from the quarterbacks 59 from Crouch 52 for battle first and goal from the five the depth to Jones up the middle for maybe a yard or two Stella I think just thrilled of number 34 Randi Stella they thought this guy about being a track guy in Eagan built on speed this defense and boy they are fast you know kind of a good discipline run again Julius Jones didn't try to break it outside make it a enough long run but the Randy Stella he can cover up a lot of mistakes by a defense with his south standing speed the smaller George is out full house backfield Howard will go 6 1 and Fisher are in [Applause] somebody looked like again the Irish again costing themselves fat because territories Yorick Terrence Howard was wide open in the end zone he was the guy I went in motion and he's going to be wide open for touch ports been in the the best alignment hit the offensive linemen will see the even so even so return Nebraska who today mister now continue for touchdown we really did watch Lee's art the other way here he is the guy emotion that's Terrence Howard watch how open he is going to be in the flat the trailer is just too far behind him they stops because the penalty so Leon he just had such a gleam on him on an angle a little bit an easy score Carolina formation Jason Marie sliding to the right Tony Fisher moves in for longer name it was the clavichord touchdown for Notre Dame Tony Fisher the average her a point away from tying this game up yeah but be careful huh phone's dead Nebraska on the extra points when they block two of them last week [Music] [Applause] but nice response by Arnez battle the Irish office Crouch tries to knock you out they keep filmin battling back and they attempt to tie the sport who drive nice drunk John Crowther will snap it Adam tipper will put it down for the sophomore Nick Seto took over the starting job in the fall camp [Applause] [Music] classy-looking drive all Russia's capped off 82 yard drive capped off by Fisher at Notre Dame is time to oscars we'll be back in just a moment [Music] entertained football is brought to you by champion official outfitter of notre dame football it takes a little more now make a champion bike Chevrolet and the Chevrolet US Olympic countdown and by register.com your first step on the way [Music] well since 1925 millions have watched the Goodyear blimp suffering over special events today it's the spirit of Goodyear carrying on that proposition with your associates worldwide extent of whoop sighs welcome to all college football fans hey any college player who looks up and sees the blimp you know it's a big game it's a big boy now you got number one your head Notre Dame coaches know it fans know it players more Bob Davie it is a 26 head football coach at Notre Dame in his fourth year years six games over 500 he has to be impressed with that drive his maiden yeah a good response remember they the drive before Eric Krauts 162 yards but among more methodical drive by the Irish but indeed Bob Davie I told him yesterday is gonna be 7-7 middle the second quarter I think it'd be very pleased and he's gotta like the way that things have worked out where the Notre Dame defenses least but a little down in Nebraska's mind Nebraska knows they can hit the big homerun Jews they did occur the incredible Eric Crouch McNew it's a plethora here on the tech he can boomer this one l will go out for bones and give the basket excellent field position to start their Drive well next Saturday 1:00 Eastern on NBC the tough schedule continues for the planning owners to take on interstate rival Purdue the 14th ranked team in the country that's Notre Dame and Purdue next Saturday at night here at 1:00 Eastern on NBC from one Heisman Trophy winner to another drew brees next week Erik Kratz today Boilermakers hosting the candidate Miller at the can of the guys there hosting the Golden Flashes of Kent State this afternoon in West Lafayette the Golden Flashes the Golden Flashes not one of your favorite clubs like that like they commit anything well Eric Crouch again last time we saw him he was 62 yards for touch he's got and Alexander I formation Davison is the white up moving to the left behind up is he good pickup for a crouch again here push down yardage you know he's a quarterback because he calls the place but he's really the running back or a running back because he's so quick and he's so strong and a lot of times after he faces the full-back don't just dunk it right behind him I think they call it the design quarterback duck player a quarterback ISIL sometimes but he's got some power let's get a couple of the extra yards there Nebraska records for Eric Crouch at the sophomore season total yardage record over 2,000 yards look what we did in that one game in one quarter she wore three different ways yep caught one threw one ran one hand off first town Miller the full-back Denman on the stop that was last year the second game of the season in the second quarter in fact matter was within eight minutes he caught one and he threw one Nebraska record and how about what Davy was talking about he had him in campion's right is a senior yeah well gee I guess junior summer I guess it wasn't the football camp he said hey was clearly the fastest guy we had here in our camp daddy's races with all the guys who come to the camp and he outran everybody Brant irons again his tough day continues first in ten ball in the West aside of the 49 vouch given near side its Newcombe he's a threat as well gets across to 50 they want to get bobby newcombe the ball more often this year Dario Harrison made the stop a gain of six for Nebraska again power power power option fullback and then a little finesse a little finesse a little reverse to Bobby Newcombe you still think about Johnny Rodgers running those kinds of plays don't you I mean I think that's one of the beauties of Nebraska it's the same place the same offense for 25-30 years Frank Solich the head coach played at Nebraska five his assistants did the finger lodge is discussing in this matchup last time they played Rogers is a big man Miller was looking up six notice the guy just got married at Nebraska last summer Ivan yes kind of ate everything on his honeymoon cruise and had six seven meals meals a day he said you pay for it you got to eat it was when he got back patty was fifteen pounds heavier irons makes his way out the coaches looked at him in June then said well time to stop the fun Frank so it's said and get back to your weight and he went down from 262 where he year's about now 245 [Applause] first antenna 240 couple of yard pickup for Dan Alexander Harrison and SAP making me stop French Solich ever coach of Nebraska he's mentioned we played more 60s for invasive Nebraska I was not a big fella only 160 pounds and look at this he was actually on the cover up in 1965 this came off was the preview Edition buddy up 200 yard day yeah Nebraska running he was the very first 200 yard rusher for Nebraska and that was the college football preview addition to SportsZone say that's a big deal he's the 48th all-time leading rusher in his career he averages over five yards a carry but that certainly was the highlight day he got almost 20% of his yards in the one day on the option cross gave to Alexander he was nailed on the play Crocs took a hit the glascott picking up a couple of yards you know Frank I think one of the incredible things about Frank so Lots in this whole Nebraska staff is the continuity in their coaching staffs a hundred and thirty two years of experience at Nebraska we're talking about at Nebraska down as we say it is a system it's been going on now for thirty years everybody with tons of grows up in Nebraska they probably know the play calls when they're in third or fourth grade third down and six Nebraska Alford three on thrown down in this game routes world to the left has the actual flow over the middle a little floater but it's caught by Davison it's a first down Nate walton made the stop and there's the danger of the option to get the respect to run so much Davidson left open for the catch he was interesting talking to Matt Davison this week we were in Lincoln and he was saying you know playing wide receiver tube rascal necessarily the most glamorous position but you're gonna get your opportunities he said it's really for me it's kind of like geometry a game of angles and my separation from the defensive back when she get right there from Shane Walton best key I've gotta get myself in position to be a separate from that corner all the geometry Mack says he's not the fastest remote that most athletic but he needs to use the head games help watch on the keeper rolls across the 20-yard line only driver made the stock since charge will set up second down and four to go Tony driver with a big interception last week against a.m. at the end of the game and a couple of interceptions a couple of years ago when G breeze came into the stadium at the end of the ballgame King has a real talented running back to Notre Dame but he's played defensive back this year and really a solid tackle about this lineup you got five hundred ninety pounds of four back leading Dan Alger and Alexander getting to the 15 with Davies and Miller front of them to 245 pound fall backs that's a first down driver and sat making the stop I'd like to stop those two guys here fend off too big for backs in the power I yeah those 300-pound offensive linemen this is looking more more like Nebraska football I mean kind of pounded it inside you know maybe you throw the ball little book - Davison once in a while but get those big ole offensive linemen Raiola number 54 a very athletic and unique center we've talked about hope Stein Schwab cannot - and both new command Davison are wide left between zoo to the left eye formation Crouch from the option he'll keep now pitches last moment lots going after it well then they have 49 fumbles a year ago though you know the would blemish on a 12 in one record they lost 25 of those many of those as we said earlier came on the pitch last second picture by Crouch yeah in 55 again hope Stein there's a great job of stealing off the inside ball that looked like it could have been handled ouch again scampered on it before rocky boy Minh could get to it a six port junior redhead is he matter is he wound tightly rocky bleeding as news say the Boylan said to his say yesterday his dad is more nervous than he is know the plan that's a big fan been watching from Cincinnati for years timeout Nebraska on this second and 10 from the 15 Eric Crouch trying to find the endzone for the second time in a 7 7 game from Notre Dame Stadium [Music] Craig Minervini with Pat Haden back and older Dame Stadium at 7-7 442 to go here in the second quarter just got word that Grant Irons is a tough loss Pat the white end the senior dislocated shoulder the doctors say he will be out for the rest of the game those Husker fans with a little more butter on their board answer here that knows one of the cob let's hit one on the head second and 10 this is a much more characteristic Drive of Nebraska the 162 yards the last one Miller in front of Alexander crotch pitch option the key to the 10 I think vision he has to look and pull you to the right goes to the left inside the 5-yard line Anthony Denman made the stop nice game by trout just think how frustrating it is for Anthony Denman number 39 for the air he's a quick outside linebacker for the errors but he was trailing Crouch almost his whole place here right there behind him never makes up any ground [Applause] ouch seven 485 yards rushing at a touchdown in mimicry he scored 16 touchdowns rushing last year so I think if you the defensive team the Irish get anything Hey first things first let's stop her cheap the stock down she likes to keep the ball inside the tin his head just 16 career starts that's Ricky he's not going anywhere it's ours and helping the middle linebacker 51 10 minutes well to tackle Matt Damon get a full piece of Eric Crouch that time good good scouting you know the brand notre dame started preparing for this game last february first time they started looking at the gel tapes of Nebraska and Bob Davie said to us yesterday Nebraska forces you to prepare early they started in February and they knew when Crouch gets down here they likes to keep second and goal from the four for a three and a power football game right 13th play of this Drive ouch the option again Borman tried to pull him down but he held up enough for the tackle [Music] Anthony Weber made the stop appointment with the key man absolutely number 30 rocky boy Minh and and rocky is his given name that's not a nickname and if you're a defensive lineman or right back [Music] just kind of played off his boss stretched it out got a first piece of him and then Anthony Weaver delivered the living final blow and I'm third and goal from the five the braska will call the timeout there just one four four run Throwdown so far this afternoon 7-7 from Notre Dame Stadium [Music] back in the older Dame 7/7 key drive going here fat seven and a half minute drive for Nebraska 14 plays 12 of them and again this is where Crouch is most dangerous but Notre Dame is did a good job thus far on this drive down here with him great change of place [Applause] [Music] I think if you have an offensive line like Nebraska fourth down even though you're on the road I think you go for let's see what the placement is to as you look at the full-back which is a bit of a surprise we talked about earlier getting the ball you want the call great change of pace they are going for is a to tighten formation in the roll ehrengard a comes in at 285 pounds at idea but I think Frank Solich believes his offensive line can get that much yardage for two feet shower crouch keeper touchdown the plane of the end zone starts at the beginning the very beginning the white of the white paint so you don't have to actually go all the way across as soon as you hit the beginning of that white paint you've crossed the plane for the touchdown I like the quick count here by Crouch I didn't have a lot of time yet Wow yeah he got there in a little late surge absolutely he got clearly across the white liner that first dussard you gotta get knocked back and that's a terrific Drive 14 plays 13 runs just learn on the extra point [Music] Eric crouched on the keeper became a Greek guile and cuts the effort to get it across a long drive capped off and the Huskers are back up by seven again [Music] back in South Bend the Huskers long drive now leading 14 to 7 went through 24 to go in the half and near the conclusion of today's game will select the Chevrolet player of the game from each team Chevrolet will make a contribution to each University's general scholarship fund the Husker fans and the Notre Dame fans enjoy what has become so far a very entertaining matchup you think about Nebraska and I'm the Washington for a long long time over the years they you have to beat them they don't take days off Bob Davie was talking about the same thing I mean you have to be able to manufacture all wins somehow put Crisco on that ball and is about it Julia's Jones will take it at the fire got some got some room [Applause] for that one to the 50-yard line absolutely four or five opportunities a 45-yard returned by Julius Jones you're going to see a really big Elaine open up here on the left you know right there the guy in the outside from Nebraska just went a little bit too wide now you think with all the touchdowns Nebraska scores in the practice they have on the coverage team he wouldn't have let two teams have two big returns but Notre Dame has head to Boston go right at midfield to 11 left and a half so one grouse that are shot at than two Hawks and efficient at the 50 he was pushed out by Scott Shanley the sophomore linebacker coming up on the SunAmerica halftime report Bruce Beck will be in our New York studio with college football scores and highlights Jimmy Roberts an update on the Olympic torch relay from Sydney Australia that is coming up at the half now Armus battle has to know the situation in the game Greg I mean his team is down by seven points two minutes remaining they asked two timeouts yeah you're trying to get into score but you do not do you might want to turn this ball over [Applause] battle me shotgun [Applause] nice spin move he's going to take off if he can get around the defender Jeff Walker came up beautifully from his loafers spot with the initial hit on battle and he lost the yard there have been 27 plays in this quarter by both teams 26 of them have been runs and Joe Walker the rover for Nebraska is a guy that should make a lot of tackles they funnel a lot of ball carriers to him third and six three for six things down so far got a screen out there - Fisher and Tony could not reel it in and there was all kinds of real estate open for the junior from Euclid and that's another one they'll shake their heads on in which they head back looked a little awkward didn't it I mean Arnez battle just wasn't did have his feet underneath him just a look a little bit strange right there for ya really shouldn't have been a difficult playfully so very quick because they didn't use much clock there they leave a minute to have for these powerful Huskers balls is on the field Joe Walker back to receive this boat is gonna carry the weight too far into the end zone and that means no one the clocks at 120 feet we're gonna take over at the 20 plenty of time for Nebraska tomorrow at 3:00 Eastern on NBC's the Subaru gorge games tuning in some amazing athletes take it to the limit and some of the most adventurous outdoor sports including extreme kayaking mountain biking and one of Pat's favorites kite boarding which he joins on the west coast just to name a few things Subaru gorge games tomorrow at 3:00 Eastern about Akai anybody who plays special teams should play in the gorge games I mean it's the same kind of thing yeah we've seen that Nebraska sport quickly and we seen them have a methodical score 124 remaining here in the half they have one timeout box given safety to alexander up to about the 25 Tony driver again in on the stop one thing about Nebraska's offensive line and we've talked a lot about him today is the how quickly they get off the ball when the ball is snapped I mean it's like the course line I mean they're they're powerful they're quick you got the nice guts going there and you need that when you know if it's alone you got to push those guys away but there there are some really powerful guys as a matter of fact number 77 - no team they think is the most powerful offensive lineman they've ever had are you surprised they're taking their time second in six the ball deep I guess they wanted both conservative as clouds' can get loose no seconds just use the clock I think I'm conservative on the road you're up by seven points absolutely one to the your defense is playing well take a seven-point lead inside show some respect to for the opposition well I don't think anybody in the rest of the press people thought this is gonna be bola blowout but talking to the coaches at Nebraska and the players I didn't think they felt it was going to be a blowout 13 - I would think Bob Davies got to feel pretty good about the first half for the Fighting Irish the baskets from the earned their last up sound about long 13 plays are they mean to the fourth and goal to do Bob's back he's going out with the clock running down final moments and he throws it out of bounds and see if we can pull it with Davison going wrong so Eric Crouch with a couple of touchdowns 89 yards rushing in the first half the story for Nebraska the Irish hanging in battle building a drive let's go down there bobble shoes with that coach up the Huskers alright guys thanks very much coach how big was that touchdown drive just before half-time yeah we needed that of course to get ahead again you know we've had some good drives the last two drives have been good primarily on the ground we need to be able to continue to control the ball in that manner our defense I thought played very well early we give them that drive but other than that they've been playing pretty well we just got to keep them from getting a big play and we just got to control the ball adjustments for the second half what's Notre Dame been doing to frustrate you well they've been bringing up an extra guy you know we could go to our passing game but right now we'll see how it works we're moving the ball fairly well on the ground at times the option game has been pretty good to us with Eric keeping it and getting some things done there so we'll see if it stays like this and it stays tight we'll have to use some play-action passes coach good luck in the second half Craig Pat back up to you thank you Bob we now take you directly to Bruce back in our New York studio with the Sun America halftime report back in the name city of the Nebraska Cornhuskers winning the Notre Dame Fighting Irish 14 to 7 at the half and welcome back everybody pregnant of any with Pat Haden bit of the exciting start so far Eric crowd certainly the story but the Fighting Irish I think Pat had to feel pretty good about things one of the drives went the length of the field but it took a full team plays and a fourth and goal conversion yeah I think Notre Dame is defense at there you feel happy with the right now grant irons is out they're gonna miss grant in the second half I think considerably but I think it's gonna hang in there hanging there try to make it a fourth quarter game let's look at the halftime numbers so far at Notre Dame Stadium the first downs Nebraska with a little edge but you look at the total yardage to most of those two on that big run background yeah 62 yard run you take that away they had 100 rushing yards and they didn't keep Nebraska's they made under 200 250 yards rushing you're playing pretty good defense the time of possession similar to and the other glaring number we thought Notre Dame might be passing the ball more so far no success in the air with just nine passing yards in the first half but Eric Crouch as we expected fat the story so far for the Huskers yeah we've seen a little bit of everything from Eric Crouch on this run you're gonna see some incredible speed that that 10th 100 meter kind of speed a little bit of power there at the end that get them off a 62-yard run as 110 in the first quarter and then a different kind of run kind of a little quarterback sneak after a long drive the particle drive who saw the quick play quick strike capability and then the methodical in the breast offense that was on fourth and goal and you could see by the jersey that he earned the touchdown 14-7 down the Bob was using all right Craig thanks very much coach based on what you told us this week although you're behind on the scoreboard it seems kind of like a game you expected it to be well I think we have to play better on defense you know they matched us a little bit there in the second quarter you know they're running a fullback a little bit more than we maybe thought they would you know we're trying to take that quarterback away you know if we can play as good as we're capable on offense I think this is gonna be a good football game I think our quarterbacks settled down towards the end of the first half we got a chance to come back and win this football game this first series is really critical to us on defense put 160 yards rushing on the board in the first half is that something that obviously concerns you well they had a bunch of it on one big play with the quarterback on the option we traded too tight in we got messed up a little bit in our linemen they took advantage of it anytime you give up a big play they're gonna have those kind of stats and first half is over we got to go play this second one right now good luck in the second half coach Craig back back up to you thank you very much Bob and and coach Davey echoing that the sentiment about the start of the third quarter here as you see the excitement around campus go that's a big sign Wow let's take it out with the flip yeah you need a big house and let's take a sign right South Bend Indiana the fans are electrified this time of year we saw the golden dome when their Fighting Irish take the field this is a matchup way back to 1950 Pat did not call the first game contrary to what some are saying they know they played 11 straight times in those days but they have not met since 1947 here in Notre Dame in the last matchup between the ends and Notre Dame name in 1973 at the Orange Bowl Johnny Rogers at four touchdowns in a 42-6 Husker win it was the last game for Bob Delaney in the worst loss for our procedure never in his Irish career yeah but I returned it around the next year won a national championship see Crouch that's the guy that Notre Dame needs to stop on this Drive and you heard Bob Davie talking about it just a moment ago this opening drive is critical sets the tone the feeling for the whole second half so Notre Dame's defense has to really try to slow down Eric Crouch they're going to have to do it again without grant irons and without with a dislocated shoulder in the second quarter on the tip of gain goes out about that not want that happened again the Brasco wind up with good field position to start off maybe those number no you don't see nebraska big series boys last week to 180 yards i they kind of got into a rhythm and we saw two different types that you know drive one was a free play drive in the end of the fifteen play more characteristic drive so it's a team that doesn't seem to get discourage you know a team that we talked about a little bit the first step doesn't seem to have off days because they run the ball so well we start at the 35 thanks to the kick out of Bounce in the power lion Mersin is the big fullback Jeff Davies and about a yard Miller on the carry Bob Davie was talking about the full-backs getting the ball alive a little bit of a wrinkle from Nebraska so far I mean is he going to playing against Nebraska you'd love to say hey make the hole back deep yeah you know you don't want to have a heavy Eric Crouch you have the ball in his hands 30 times a game so I think on some of those option plays their tackles actually go out wide to the forts to feed the ball to the fullback no gate of the place second and death in the I formation to the left for the raster maps of the action agenda 35 he's tripped up good defensive play Ron is via Butler yard pickup for Alexander down again not a medic kind of down Nebraska's used to third a well-disciplined defense that that down for motor David Israel kind of had the pitch man they had a quarterback take it away they had a dive man and that's what the you know the option forced you to play off the discipline defense [Applause] play here third and seven the brass goes 1 for 6 in the game unfilled down like that very supple clear down this is again if it's from you javi Newcombe the option 3rd and 7 still or your pencil trying to turn the corner ambassador [Applause] rocky boy Minh is one of those guys that loves everything about football he loves practice he loves training camp I mean he's a guy that would play at doubleheaders if you had he play in the parking lot and again maybe his dad's a little less nervous after that play by Rocky born with a good closing speed by Boylan he's a big fan easy pops thought he could outrun the big linebacker though that did not work out that time fair catch though the game will start on the 42 yard line a 41 putt as you look at the redheaded and is that a face of someone who goes to Notre Dame or what rocky boy man has got a little Irish in his what as well the junior from Cincinnati Ohio captain the high school track team and he was a sprinter why right there first half Irish possessions it got off to a real slow star just didn't look kind of in sync Nebraska's defense can do that to you but the love and paid touchdown drive brought him within seven battle quick handoff to Julius Jones for a future rushing it carries so far the game that one was running to darkness there's no daylight there because to her about five white jerseys stuffing up every available hole [Music] Bob David looking to get his offense going here 22 and 16 lifetime that's some pressure coming off the five and seven season losing for state that last year but the could win last week has the Irish feeling pretty good about things Jones he's a laptop from debauch let's go down to Bob or Susan all right guys grant irons gone for the game as you said defensive level for the Irish offensively they are going to be without Javon hunter for the rest of the game he suffered a concussion in the first half he is in the locker room he will not return back upstairs jayven a big bad last week butter touchdown against A&M and a nice catch the first setting a callback but big part of their offense will their top three wide receivers Notre Dame is 3 for 7 I'm filled out and here's 3rd inning [Applause] Notre Dame got yeah they did hang same kind of grabbed honor but a we talked about the speed of Randy's Stella off the corner high school running back incredibly fast he is number 34 he's down here right at the bottom really no one has a pic of it no one picks him up I mean the Jordan black the left tackle had an assignment he had a defensive end but a good design on a blitz by Randy Stella causes the fumble good recovery by Jeff fain then quickly jump on it the sophomore center both boulders back looks it off to Walker coming up to field right to him Husker throwing the banquet it appears two different fumbles books is coming out of a pitching machine or something use in practice well it wasn't much communication between the two deep men I know they're innovative but three return men the same play yeah Walker and Newcombe and the ball comes out fit he's there to make a recovery [Music] Notre Dame football is brought to you by champion official outfitter of Notre Dame football it takes a little more now make a champion by Chevrolet trucks the most defendable longest-lasting trucks on the road and buy some america themed retirement specialist [Music] welcome back to Notre Dame you look at their golden Dolan whatever the Goodyear blimp is hovering above the game with its camera focused on an event you know you're going to get a unique view the spirit is based near Akron Ohio also the location of world headquarters for the Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company the first possession did not work out well for either team here in the second half Huskers at the ball the second possession in the half first in ten good field position of the 41 after the ball bounced around pinball style Alexander again is roughed up by Harrison and Driver Alexander having a rough day getting going here Pat 30 yards on 11 carries you know when he's at his best is really one of Diggle offensive linemen to give him a little momentum a little room to get something going it but I think they could get him early in the run he's not terribly nifty isn't he can miss early in the run and that's what Notre Dame has got some pretty good penetration and so he hasn't had some of those thundering runs that he had last week he comes out of the mix ear or a buck halter is in twins to the left receiver to the right unusual formation more of a typical football formation here from Notre Dame but here's the option whistle to play dead penta Leon Nebraska the 25 second clock appeared to run out on Frank Solich had the big red and we saw it a lot in the first tab we're seeing an opening the second have some unusual downand distances for this Nebraska team this would be second in 14 now no one near the quarterback at Nebraska you get you know you get a lot autographs right yes for an autograph beginning if he's always ready talked Eric Crouch this week and you know he said I was in a function with Warren Buffett the sage ago MA and he got he can't sign butcher had team he returned the favor to did he not yes ran into twenty driver who drove her back but a 17-yard gain for the second I back Carell buckle their senior out of Mississippi good offensive line play you know book halter made a nice strong run but again it's fenokee number 77 coming around Jesus wall 65 kind of blocking down really stop by Tony driver but the offensive lineman really created a nice little running lane for buckle now back to their 590 pounds of foot back in the I formation Davies in motion to the left ouch hanging on could pick the middle rider for nearside Wistrom at the 30 the tight end with his first catch of the game he always picks up a lot of yardage but he ran the ball Brock Williams made the stop gain of 17 his 16 catches last year when he averaged 27 yards a catch and again the tiny weight when they get this two tight end formation it really is a it turns out to be a passing formation for them you know they kind of faked the ball inside looks like an option and here he comes a little delay wide open - he had a couple of guys over here well he's effective - on the play-action fatty cells in so well keeps the ball down you can't really see him after linebacker - believe me you're worrying about that halfback and fullback goes to 10:25 live israelian gives up the Alexander rolling walk to the 10 wall trying to catch up can't do it touchdown [Applause] touchdown one Nebraska offense cooking with all kinds of things fill this up for over there dude now this was a good change of direction by Alexandra sees it right there at the very beginning there on that time he'd gift actually playing off that right foot then the speed you know 245 pounds the biggest I back Nebraska has ever had and again I give an awful lot of credit for those five offensive linemen can greet some holes extra point just Brown is good so Nebraska has three touchdowns on poor possessions now Alexandra in just 29 yards his first 11 carries but this one the biggie the home run he was looking for 20 yard for a 21-7 Husker Lee [Music] it's time to fight again our squared off against the Cornhuskers the 1973 Orange Bowl in Miami on a Heisman Trophy winner Johnny Rodgers should why he was named the country's top period for touchdowns in the game when he left in the third quarter with 81 rushing yards on 15 carries he also threw a touchdown pass to Frosty the Snowman Anderson the breast controlled of the easy win becoming the first team to win three straight arms Bowl was the last game ready coach Bob Devaney who's replaced the following year by Tom Osborne here he jiong just go back to it sent punts now I think it was unbelievable anticipation everybody expected I sell for Florida it's something we exciting was going to happen he was something else record for touchdowns event Tom Osborne took over the water run he had until Frank Solich the last three years for [Applause] [Music] [Applause] Bob Davie started Julius Jones and running back because he wanted on the kickoff return in time to do it for the other day you know I'm really surprised Notre Dame has had three big kickoff returns against a team that kicks the ball off an awful lot only tim brown had more return yards in one season the jury of jones said his extra point is good it's a seven point game Gregg this is the same return that ran just a moment ago - they left and away Keith is a tremendous oh this is good scouting you gotta see is going to be a giant Lane out to his left and there's the lane right through there and then all he had to do is align here there isn't it's a little Seelbach and it's just he and the kicker that is good scouting and then good execution by the other day you know that offense was struggling defense just gave up a touchdown how'd he get back in the ball game get your special teams to make a play and Julius Jones has done it now for two years for the Irish from the special team play 100-yard return but Julius Jones a sophomore tailback he may end up being the most explosive player at Notre Dame since Tim Brown it was a pretty good return guy himself so the fans celebrating with eight and a half left in the third quarter and especially that whipping offense struggling willing to get going overall to have it on the special teams away back to the game I don't know offense watch 80 yards downfield that was the first career kickoff return for touchdown for the extended Julius Jones though he has had some other returns to those chains around here Stesha geez can win a couple of ball games a year for you Notre Dame had to call a timeout that's a wasted opportunity time out on a kickoff I don't I don't get that one [Music] well Jules last year pulled his heroics on return it was a punt return lead in the game against Boston College when Jones took this punch November of 99 and he took it 67 yards for a touchdown last time that has happened for the Fighting Irish that was against BC a year ago and here's today's back yeah I think it's well designed first of all since there aren't any white jerseys for the first 15 yards of the run so they saw something in Nebraska's coverage because that's the exact same return II had a while ago for about 40 yards this time a hundred yards so good execution good scouting good all the way around the special teams Athlon Sports magazine getting carried away it is projecting on the NFL all-decade team yeah that Jones is one of the two running backs along the veteran James the NFL decade youngest in a field 2002-2009 right Peyton Manning's the quarterback of that team now Bob Davie said we must have a good press agent Julius Children's a bit back play but the NFL when he walked in this campus a year ago as a freshman out of Virginia pigs don't get Virginia that's a they were high expectations for Julius Jensen today he gets his first storm has been a lot as a running back yet but certainly made a difference on a special teams play Matt McNew who spent four years in the soccer team here that kind of surprised some people because we actually had another year of eligibility left to play football for one season and he played four years of soccer wrapped that up where was their sweeper on there the Irish team played back behind the goal big tall guys six five the loaders hang time he also had three touchbacks last week but he's been knocking about of bounds to one group to walk toward mine Walker China finds the moon gets through the 22 about the 23 that goal was made in the play by Mike Goolsbee for Notre Dame NBC Tuesday's this ball to Michael Richards show returning to NBC starring in his first comedy is Michael Richards this is going to be a fun show the michael richards show America's Funniest private eye at his new must-see Tuesday series but for the Michael Richards show Tuesday's this fall on NBC lied to some marks Sam from sarthak significant Notre Dame on special teams played just get hammered winnings off a clip I mean it Ennis you don't want B playing special team the pancake Erik Kratz go to the I back [Applause] Alexander talked earlier about that offensive line and just it's a match just moving forward in pushing blue jerseys back two or three yards your swap number 65 and in his search 60-year you know that a great history of Outland Trophy winners at Nebraska Jacobsen and 70 way right on through in Taylor in 1997 and they have a couple candidates this year in the offensive line the center Dominic Raiola a unique kind of player and right girl Russ boat Stein number 55 Bulls of who played particularly well today play the hooks time he is written out in front of abrasca boy who said he would be the waterboy in this team that's what it means to him to play and a halter in Weber made the stop few yards for Nebraska you know hoax time when we spoke with him this week was saying you know I grew up always wanted to play at Nebraska I mean it's it's an honor sounds kind of hokey but [Applause] really passionate about Russ and of Hartington Nebraska logo size and quickness whose outfit 12 last year with his first game at 13 the basket wonderful seven on third downs bouts get back home first town also getting new yardage and you see the weapons they have we talked about Krause then you see Alexander run action ban then you see Correll Buchalter a six-foot 225 pound I back out of Mississippi and again it's hard to get a lot of penetration when you get the three-minute outline in front you mentioned all those guys friends in you know Nebraska may go on to win this game today boy what a national championship this certainly an awfully good football team but their MVP in my mind might end up being bobby newcombe because he could have handled the switch from quarterback to wide receiver a lot differently than he did it could have ruined this team he had the job he always dreamed about and then Sollux made the switch their game after that looking for Davison passing Davidson's open 45 yard line royal throne by brauch and that's the more that set up we keep talking about this moving further past you're not ready for it and Davis makes a good grab Matt Davison talk to us this week about setting up defensive backs you know he comes out of the huddle all the wounds and tries to make it look a little different each time out of the huddle good corner out ball was for a little bit behind him but Davis did a great job as he can sell in the run then he kind of comes out of the cut that uses his body as a stream be kind of he can almost a basketball player there as he screamed number 42 Shane walked away from the ball but what are you doing to the defense you don't you being set up and we still gotta respect the option and it's very hopeful defendant when they play action his Crouch right up the gun babies the foot back we'll have a 15-yard pick up in the first half kicks of 182 Lance will bleed on the stop its power then it's finesse and then they'll go again this break up the hose passes to your tight in occasion to Matt Davis and the wide receiver it is hard to stop everything and if they don't stop themselves and you need to can really defeat the brass they're swollen that you needed some help you need a couple off a couple of turnovers it protected the ball particularly well today Davis did emotion to the left tight ends is well catch option don't get it back to by Parker defense there's two sweeps through for a couple of yards on the second and eight when earnings defense needs to make a play right now it's third men was about six seven yards I mean they got a great play out of their special teams but now they need to make the play right here force a puck although at seven carries 42 yards it is a little bit cooler this week is there a way down effect oh we've seen the Lord churning Drive from Nebraska I'd be surprised if you Eddy every team is now worn down by the Brasco I mean it takes twice as much energy to play defense that's why I say going on the field too long on defense third and seven to Freight on third down swings to the right option crouch he gives a link one blocker in front of Alexander Denman Anthony Denman I think he got him just before the first down yardage but it'll be fourth and short we'll see at the basket the very surprising breath doesn't go for but nothing less Anthony didn't an incredible collision here with Danny Alexander Alexander's 245 pounds and imminent knocks him backwards so that doesn't half a tad an Alexander much damage says his most stimulating Francis conflict and resolution of something he could take right to the nail to her last time they ran a sneak in this situation let's the conflict here cause Alexander Scott it he's gonna pick up the first down Tony driver tried to meet him in the air to stop him but a good port from the line of Alexander launching for the first down you know if your offensive line takes off and gets low it's hard for those linebackers deep these two kind of leap over and and meet the they get the runner coming over the top see a lot of it sometimes watch these guys the the offensive line the little surge there so it's really hard to get over the top to stop your runner to tight information john-boy he's on the near side wisdom on the far side power I option and look at fake the pass where the power play action going back in a pass and Shane what he comes up with a huge turnover from over there tipped off the deflection to our babies and the Irish goat took over after the victory over its 2114 [Music] two tight ends in here for Nebraska that's a passing formation for them usually and there's the full-back Judd Davies who comes out of the backfield now he is wide open when they tied in one of the tight end runs the corners off in the flat the ball just thrown a little bit high off his hands and Shane wall makes a big play we talked about the defense had to come up with two turnovers there's one you know the other factor to Pat is that bob davie worried about that tight end obviously the tinu twin tight ends watch them they hope for the tight ends can they throw to the fullback man it's good offensive scheme it did not work out though the flow is off the mark how about this stubborn Erik Kratz has to use four interceptions each year this year three interceptions already at two last week and then one Denair so a big one for the average they've battled back to his 21 seven not too long ago they've got the good kickoff return unbelievable one and now we get the turnover Fisher on the option not much to hopefully insertion maybe almost poked the linebacker with the stop setup second n9 as you look at Carlos folk likeable guy we talked to this week grew up in Big Ten country in Illinois but he always liked the biggest followed the Colorado and Nebraska a lot of people were trying to push him toward Notre Dame or the Big Ten he said nope dad's a construction worker mama will estate agent and he's a good student as well [Applause] [Music] but jaywalkers a big Gator for battle of the Irish of 25 the Irish descent got a big play on special teams now they've got one of the fasting game in a trailing by seven the office really hasn't been able to get much going this happened told this play again really it looks like Nebraska's offense you know you've had a run and runner on it they get throw the ball the tight end of the field but that was a real momentum changer for the our game particularly for our men on his back some a confidence builder or des with just his second completion fakes the handoff is keeping well played and it was Lauren Kaiser number 91 the senior defensive tackle who did not let battle get away you you're right disciplined play by Lauren Kaiser number 91 amazing really that that he is playing what a week a week before last week's game tend to situs attack lost 27 pounds one pump his back so I think about 280 but still I was in remarkably but he played last week I'll be up in debt to me in the 23rd August he's already back but not quite as strong last week the hoping is the week slaughter gets stronger and stronger second at 8 at the 46 play action this is the man wide open in complete Tagawa but also opens holloway that tight end he went for the flanker every wall was knocked aside by Eric Sweeney you're right don't watch this tape tomorrow and they'll say you should have thrown the ball to Jabari Holloway chose to go outside and pretty good throw actually but Aaron Sweeney number 16 this did a great job I mean he defensive backs are beaten for the wolf for a while generally but it's the ketchups be the closing speed and he gonna closed that gap and knocked it away terrific play by Sweeney esident completion you can handle other than the Holloway factor was thrown well in a deep way to been a great play on it but he did out Holloway for first down third and eight Irish 3 tomato 3rd down some question battle getting away throw in the routes [Music] for Holloway to have just a little bit rushed you know when you're getting pummeled and you're getting that kind of rush sometimes you do rush yourselves you got a did a good job of escaping Jason Lord number 70 but boy did he have Holloway heads name two plays in a row he had Holloway open he absolutely knows it let let a first down or maybe more get away with that one first down that would lead to perhaps even a field goal at least kind of yardage you could have picked up Joey hilt Bo's sixth but of the day Joe Walker is back at the 8 yard line Walker angles to the 15 and he's just going to take a whole pickup it looked like he had a fair catch look like he put his right hand up [Applause] [Music] we see a fly eater Derek on a little indecision you know they'll give him the wine list could be there for a while invalid fair catch signal return the ball five-yard penalty first down Joe Walker number 25s did a good job on special teams and at the rover position watches right hand he goes on kind if it goes up there you know as you look at didn't replay I'm not so sure it even sell it very well after he caught it does it look like you're thinking fair catch himself back in a moment from Notre Dame good one 2114 back in Notre Dame Nebraska scored early in the quarter to go up 21-14 of the Alexander run though think about them to return now the Brasco started 210 at the delay of game penalty for the false fair catch [Applause] name it's a collision all right Craig thanks very much I'm gonna brass the sidelines first significant injury report from their sideline for rump bump called serve a mix up that I'm back backfill the Dan Alexander hyper-extended knee right now he's trying to walk it off they're gonna try to get him back in the game but has up now he's out back upstairs to you guys thanks Bob the beauty of depth for Nebraska is it'll miss Davene who's one of the right back the other guy gets so much playing time those take away a little bit from giving a 1 or a spot 5 she's got some room here 15 Alexander that is a beautiful thing you know it's a dangerous thing that's why they turned the ball over some last year but if you can run the option to make it make a guy defend that option way down the field ten yards down you have something working yeah often time almost the time the option play the ball is going to get pitched early rarely do you see a pitch this late it usually means big once it was it - Brock Williams he kind of shaken up a little bit Williams the one rivalry on the head we got to have a courageous quarterback to do 238 yards rushing for Nebraskan though you're going to take the bump command everybody's playing you is the winner I formation first in 10 24 yard line Alexander again boy you move down the stop left side of the line Fionn OT number 77 Dave both number 58 they pulled led the way I mean there's a big hole there because those two guys there's bolt number 58 no D number 77 powerful player big hole there for Alexandra Sollux said about definitey how powerfully yes he's from Hawaii we're kidding with him saying there must be tough to get the assistant coaches to recruit to Hawaii's this time of year because it's a red eye there and back everybody wants to go in the spring hang out for a couple of yards but they're having suggestion that recruiting in Hawaii Dominic or the center I would think that sort of I think they have five guys actually on the roster from Hawaii they also have Lemay's we talked about the walk-on program 24 walk-ons here today out of there 88 man roster final moments of a third corner will kick down before we get another staff so Frank Solich and his number one Cornhuskers are in a tussle they lead 21 to 14 after three quarters and we'll be right back after these words from your local station [Music] back in the old game if you thought it was going to be a blog some Husker fans did not so good one 21 to 14 in this historic matchup first time to us because they've come to this stadium since 1947 a big third and goal a third in one rather coming up from the 33 so far the Huskers are 1 for 2 on the short yardage plays go down bats will keep that worked on the touchdown for the first out right here and Craig you know what I like about the call it's a quick count I mean just when you think you're gonna settle it and kind of grub in on defense and get ready for that third and one boom the ball snaps and you're gone they've done that twice on the touchdown and on that third one Eric Crouch is it an easy guy to like for offensive lineman I mean he's as tough as they come I mean we were talking last week to Russ hope Stein who said I love this guy I mean he's tough he's not a prima donna he's a great leader he's confident he's just a junior to Brasco we talked about him getting warren buffett's autograph a while back from Omaha he's gonna have his old monitor you know this the sage of Omaha is Warren Buffett we'll have to have find some moniker for Eric Crouch well he left a couple options open coming out of school we mentioned that he went to the military camp with the Ohio State but he said about here is just a different atmosphere a small town didn't seem right and he wasn't sure if they wanted him as a quarterback Bob Davie was his first you told him back to the airport grouchy's from Omaha Nebraska people from other areas might not think of that as a larger city but it is a little bit larger and more metropolitan than South Bend and which he plays now in Lincoln a smaller town both home for him brought back all the freak up in Brock Williams number one back in the ball game Brock Williams we talked to saw him for the first time in a year last week coming off a year suspension changed his number to start to a new career if you want under Dame good discipline they've done a pretty good job on the pure option play spring forcing the pitches that's what they want to do they did water for sprouts to pigeon named Jesus did a good job there how about the amount of time to this game Notre Dame has forced the third and long unusual that's big very unusual for Nebraska in those kind of situations and generally and then the 3132 is makes living the optional more difficult for the Huskers standpoint because you need a lot of yards to get the first down throwing shorten can go either way Crouch looking throwing right Davis in though nearly picked off well played by Brock Williams the left cornerback and of course the fun as they had a pass on third and long back-to-back plays by Brock Williams this why it's hard to play corner at any level you know he's up here watching the look seam looking in he sees it as soon as he sees it he Drive this is he's he's a quarterback pull up but to play before and the option play Brock Williams is the one who made to stop and then in a pass play Brock Williams knocks it away two good plays by Brock Williams Rock Williams a guy who had his problems last year set up the entire year breaking some University rules Davie got it in the office told him actually kicked him right out of the office it's up to you and what he has done the ways we spotted Davey says his unbelievable he credits Fox parents very strong for the support again in this city year [Applause] again [Applause] no point seven seniors speech there they also showed in Fenton nifty move on Dan Havey spell book the time let's go [Music] returns the touchdown by Julius Jones on a kick this time Joey controlled their normal punt returner [Music] he doesn't have a quick cool deal picks up an ice block I believed in those by toy drive there's the movement hate to feel right there the guy's got remarkable speed giant special teams place boom and then a couple of brass the corner Buster's at an angle on enjoying Enron just ran Diego [Music] didn't lose it out to speeds the movie they absolutely look at the bench we often forget that there are three phases of football the Laura stove on offense defense special teams for the Irish the second half have been remarkable second we returned for a touchdown for Joey at the wall and on a day where the offense has not really been clogging up good series in the first half battle is to 412 with an interception watching games him for the effective back it's for the special teams taught by them found off the I wish and got them tied with a number one team in the country Walker in a tie game two yards deep will take it out try one return of his own he's knocked out of bounds on the play to Rome Seth Nebraska is the number-one football team in the country and this is when you find out a lot about the number-one team the game is tied it's in the fourth quarter you're on the road hostile crowd and this is where a guy like Eric Crouch has to make someplace start from the 23 bob davie certainly sold it to us that when we talked in that will not audio just to compete yeah hold on here just overpoured we feel we can compete and win even this game I know it's a tough town a lot of time to go still but so far a good effort crouched in trouble and Berman and the linebackers a major app for today for the other day Anthony Denman number 39 has played phenomenally that's Ryan Roberts we mentioned rocky Bowman as well the number 39 s right here in the middle gotta fight through some traffic like a running back in gobbles a month yeah that was Anthony Denman ouch his leg was grabbed by one of the interior lineman is long my client Roberts they've got a piece of it so here we go second in long the game second and eleventh much on the option play-action try to find one down the middle and the Davidson that's Williams in Israel all over Davidson fortunate for the Irish but because he was not open at all could be incomplete he wasn't in you know the Irish have been plagued by pass interference calls really for last year as well as last week you know if you're a quarterback looking at this one generally you say you don't throw this ball to wide receiver right here has two guys on him that's Davis at number three he's gonna run the poster out Brock Williams is there and over the top comes yeah they did need not to be out here on Israel number five Israel was looking at the ball all the way I thought back I I think he ran through you still have the opportunity case yes you do he ran through I think it's a good call I'm not sure Israel took notice of Davis boy he wasn't so looking at the ball delighted with a sandwich Davidson so great for Nebraska and again the rush up the middle that's the dream DJ Scott on the stop for notre-dame [Applause] Fred Sony Frank Solich you know this is the probably at the entity comes out with a win here this is gonna be a good good game a bit learning experience for his team the number one team in the nation you know going to a place like this you find out a lot about your team holding the season both teams are getting a mentor lesson here today for themselves a pitcher could think Newcombe he is shifty oh well play-doh walking stepped-up for Notre Dame on a shifty player in Bobby dukes at the wing back some really good tackling the last few series by the corners of Notre Dame blocked Williams before this time the other corner 42 she another former soccer star at Notre Dame played his freshman years all-big East for 10 goals that are leading to a score a big down here for the brass the third [Applause] [Music] again box will come up tight shot back door the screen Walker closes man in Alexander event then a chance even to be Florida great coverage and defense by the Notre Dame Fighting Irish they were going to get the ball back I just think Nebraska has scenes them down and distant situations they just don't have they don't see often they're not comfortable in and it didn't handle well that time very slowly developing not play that time would you say it might be the one thing that can be disruptive to the to their style their option status third and long young without buying the option but is worth absolutely Julius Jones is back for all this time he might still be tired they're catching yes he was not given room to make the catch burgers on Nebraska they're crowded around their 2300 believes that situation in last week's game of death rot was made on the situation when he was not alive against the ball but he took the price that time there's a real court move [Applause] Julie is showing you can't blame them blastin I'm trying to keep a close eye on these reservas that time it comes from five yards Notre Dame football is rocky fire champion official outfitter of Notre Dame football it takes a little more now make a champion fight old movie run your local Oldsmobile dealer and buy the USR be a part of the tough smartest army in the world be all you can be [Music] one of America's most enduring corporate images the Goodyear blimp floating overhead providing our aerial views for today's game the spirit of Goodyear one of seven airships in the Goodyear blimp fleet Goodyear now has three points in the United States two in Europe one in South America and one in Australia and the blimp is capturing some nice pictures today of an afternoon day in Notre Dame Terrence Howard for a few yards the latest chapter in a storied history of two teams - the winningest teams in college football history some thought might be a bit of a mismatch coming in that turned out like that number 23 the Nebraska players felt that way serving Notre Dame players did but if you look at Frank Solich even about Nebraska and the way they they in Florida State really have dominated the college football scene over the last seven years has been pretty remarkable [Applause] [Music] [Applause] looks like it's gonna be a pass interference I'd say that this early Sweeney is an awfully good player he might have gotten a hand on the shoulder of the tight end Jabbar aha Jabari Holloway offensive you're gonna call it off inside yes Sweeney get it you know I can hit a good job yeah he plays pretty well all day in the passing game none of those guys going man-to-man so it's offensive pass interference and how about that for him that's gonna first [Applause] [Music] Jabari Holloway number 87 offensive interference there that's not pushing off and they it's somewhere else that that is not it that is not offensive past they need to call the pass off as a passive that's not offensive pass interference call for the Irish call from 15 yards that's a bad call where they will not like that when they look at the Chapin such a critical spot here too now it's all the sons of second in 23 they haven't seen too many of these situations in the game quarterback draw battle back about the Johansson [Applause] [Music] [Applause] number three somehow fly through like Halley's Comet 38 yard pickup Wow you know break anytime you see a formation where you see so many wide receivers spread out you'd be gotta be thinking or worried about a quarterback draw with Arnez battle I mean he's got vision he's got speed I mean he's not a quarterback right now he's a running back and a pretty doggone good 138 yards bait why when they needed it after the penalty good call Pat the Knights a nice day going 86 yards the Huskers could have used your thoughts before that play I think they probably figured that one out to birth to get the roll at the big return they felt down running into Thank You linemen dandy in front of him that he picked up five yards but you know why he ran it again d Clint Finley number 19 for the Cornhuskers did a great job of just kind of standing Mike dandy up Mike and he just hid there there's Finley number 19 but he's the one that really caused that fight I think this is Finley in here watch him he's Mia he's gonna come back out right to watch those guys by fiddling the free safety know where to go 35 yard line I formation it's Gibbons in motion fewer face down yardage I think he came up about two yards shy it'll set up filled into from the 31 still long field goal range here for the other day Terrence Howard is one of three tailbacks that play a lot for Notre Dame we've seen Julius Jones who started the game Tony Fisher a little bit of the option but Terrence Howard is a smooth powerful guy who could really catch the ball out of the backfield and he is very very smooth get him in some open space he's got a great striking down and to Aris three out of nine and one for to on third down short water [Applause] back you're going back get it he's out about the 30-yard line when tough call here supposed a 47-yard field goal only one field goal this year 32 yards and he is a new kicker so he is not proven that he could hit the long run looks like they're going to go for it well this is probably a pretty good time he's you're going to use the time to have to use what Notre Dame has two of them I think one thing that fixture play call is Nebraska is so good at blocking kicks that has to enter your mind a little bit they've blocked Kenny here ago you're right when you got a sophomore kicker who only had one ticket his career so pick forth and what battle on the fake thought the ones looking to throw any thousand incomplete [Applause] could work but only was open really early dan O'Leary to tight end was wide open early Arnez battle could not get him the ball because of some rush the people in his face well there he's down here in our own eyes did see well there he the bottle the screen in here he was open very early you know that's one of those plays on 4th and 1 in the play action you have a guy he's he gonna be wide a wide open early and you got to get him the ball big play by Nebraska's defense nice coverage after vana loss to slovenly about the court and forth to the one you know I like to call I think you got to get the ball quickly 21 21 648 to go [Music] it's a tied ballgame because of the Irish specialties hundred yard kickoff return in the second half by Julius Jones [Applause] three yard punt return so it's been a kind of an unconventional second half here for the Irish but they put up two touchdowns via the special teams the Irish knew they were going to need all facets here straight up man four men might not be the matchup conventionally of today about some of the tricks with the terrific returns and the defense certainly is played admirably well against this high-powered attack and up for a couple but that's been the story I've said it simple handoff for a couple or two or three and it's putting them in the second and long throw to long Ligurian Harrison on the stop we've always seen really out Eric Crouch on the on that you know you look at the first and second half Eric Crouch at that 162 yard run but other than that the Irish have kept him pretty good checked he goes they forced him to pitch the ball on the options and then when he runs the veer option that allowing him to get the ball in the fullback so again pretty good designed by the defense 14 carries in the game for Crouch second and six single back fake Krauts he can run his but if bars go take a sack rabbits employment I thought brats could have taken and gone forever there he was actually looking to pass across the field and he wound up getting sacked by the knight of Notre Dame dude how about Robin Roberts he's the one filling in for grant irons they get beautiful play fake by crush he could have won you're right but they were going for the home run Brian Roberts steps in for grant ions you get some helpful rocky boiling they first force a third in 12 5:30 remaining in the ball game play Bob Davies been worried about where the quarterback comes out on the option and usually close to the tight end won't shuffle pass Alexander has it but he can't written to the level day of defense Anthony Weaver and they have to be 10 min on the stop the Anthony Denman had a good second half and now is going back at confirmation as Julius Jones well as Julius Jones or Joey control you have a pretty good punt returner the student body knows them so to the Irish and the Huskers it's Jones back well you know you've got a great Butler Turner to have the other guy get Muhammad earn the touchdown Jones Hammond took off and George was going to get another shot at the boomer here let's see what he does in 220 bandits the wine gross he is a really good special teams planner do on gross pendolino earlier the game but you know he should have really been blocked by Shane Walt number 42 become goes right through the block by Walton and then just hammers Julius Jones good play by gross [Music] back at Notre Dame Stadium 21214 42 to go down to bob was shootin Frank thanks very much grant irons has returned to the sideline and street clothes in a sling obviously he's out of the game with the separated shoulder but he has been a wild man up and down the bench padding every single guy on his defensive unit on the back also Bob Davie and the defensive coordinator both coming over to the sidelines after that last stand and they love the beef fence no but if the defense wins this game for the Irish and shuts out Nebraska the rest of the way they'll probably be able to hang on back upstairs for you Rocky Point has been a big reads in Hawaii with health abrasca to three touchdowns and that is saying something when he talked about the four high school all for him 1020 Julius Joyce [Applause] twenty-five you talk about the importance of protecting the ball in security now it is really of ultimate importance well they the coaches here at Notre Dame make all the running backs including Julia's Jones go to class believe it or not with a football in their arms they sleep at night with a football in their arms and seems to be working covered for the slippery suckers or this second of 625 option battle got lit up at night Steve Jones Jones turns the corner flag is down got to the 35 yard line flag boat in the defensive backfield and that bad it's hugely gonna call someone a tight end when that back judge throws that flag and you know it's a holding it usually looks at the tight ends yeah [Applause] officials back in centerfield middle of the field on the defensive side of the ball their assignment is to really look at tight ends mostly tight ends and outside linebackers and holding offense spot foul ten yards repeat second down battles did a nice job on the late pitch that time getting Jones sprung the holding penalty on Notre Dame we're bringing back you know second and 13 no in the situation Arnez needs to know she was tied up at 21 and you have to give two downs to pick up that first down maybe you run that draw our screen little trap just you know don't take a sack and certainly don't don't throw the interception don't force the back second and 13:5 fellows for Notre Dame now 49 yards shotgun formation there is some confusion [Applause] that on the pitch shovel pass return the favor to Terrence Howard they got a few yards Huskers tried that one in the last series gonna be throw it in long yeah but it's kind of a safe little pass and the if he drops it remember it is not a a fumble then you invite everybody upfield the shotgun formation flips up underneath him the blast could play that very well fact the defense from Nebraska let's give them better than Jenna for a good job allowing just one touchdown against the Fighting Irish and really they're gaining the passing game to 413 for battle just 34 yards passing they have to do it here third and seven battles gonna throw it this one is overthrown he was hit as he was blitzed and hit hard as he was going to get the oil vandenBosch we're on the fletcher and Notre Dame will have to punt Vander Boston a couple of linebackers were all around Arnez battle did head really didn't have any any kind of chance man-for-man coverage up here inside pull EC all the outside guys as well it's just a matter of time today get to the quarterback in and you were hoping that your wide receiver Joe Egan throw could just get to that post a little bit faster and give him a chance to catch it looked like he got rid of the ball cleanly a key hands it right after the release I don't know if that affected the pass or not maybe watched him a little bit you can sense the pressure my sponsor who's the putt biovault it was a good one Joe Walker 32 and his flag has grown again reception has put for Jefferson came in and made out of given the yardage is there so much excitement and anticipation in this game the return man appeared not to be giving the receiving guys some room you know I think it's gonna be awfully hard for a guy running down the field because when you see the guy bout the catch he know it's not a fair catch because didn't raise his hand but just don't exactly know when the ball is gonna rock there to the ferns let's go down Clifford Jefferson number 15 you need to give the guy two yards you know you know that's a rough go there's a rough fall coming down and receive the guy doesn't call a fair catch there is some lifted Mach calling a fair catch it's a tough call but yet you have to get him two yards I have to consider I he was right on that border it's only a five is not a major issue by the way first in 10 39 yard line I formation Alexander over the 42 about the 42 driver on the stop second and six three minutes left in his ballgame Nebraska has all three timeouts and perhaps the best offensive line in America but they're going to have to get a couple of big points they can't just grind it out they're going to need to get here at Crouch on the perimeter at least once or twice inside 2:40 down on second and six Alexander again plunging ahead the Huskers ideally would like to use up that clock and Rumble downfield for the chance to hit the field goal or the touchdown for the win well in their kicker Josh Brown his long is 42 yards so they've got a considerable amount of yardage to pick up to give him a chance biggest play of the game coming up right now with 210 left in the ballgame four tied at the end of regulation we'll go to the overtime of course two minutes to go 32 Alexander Anthony Denman again Denman again at the first stop and now already here you have two father [Applause] I would put here the afterthought absolutely fourth and - and it's a long - but - Anthony Gaiman he has been spectacular the second half short yardage the long yardage you know inside close blitzing in the passing game [Applause] as good as Julius Jones here you didn't want to I'm surprised that Joey gather all is not back then leave together return to 183 yards for the touchdown - is what a hundred on the kickoff yeah Jones at the 16-yard line well define seniors about those five Samuel but he gets up to the 30 yard line before gross again brought him down take over at the 30-yard line a 15 yard return 38-yard punt the Anthony Denman number 39 gonna come from the inside here there he's right there they can just kind of knifing in that was he had some big plays this this game particularly second half but none bigger than that one forcing a punt and giving the Irish the ball with a little over a minute to go to game in two timeouts now for Bob Davie it's tough because his kicker although it was one for one last week he has not been tested much of an optimal fairly quickly but they do have two timeouts battle lost authority falls down at about the 34 thought as he nearly went into big footballers and the clock is ticking at 52 seconds in Morgan they were too far back to think timeout cuz they're still think he should be getting into that how do they have reasonably good field position I mean I'm surprised he left this one run out there playing for overtime huh yeah that's the way they look at it now I'm not playing an overtime game but 36 yeah he getting you some floor back Dragic could have thrown screens for some safe stuff you can do in these circumstances battle is going to keep box girl who saved her shaken Bacon's to the 37 Jason Lauren stop Bob getting a little frustrated watching the seconds go away the Irish big field your best bet is to take the number one team to overtime yeah I'm not sure I agree with that you have some receivers here in Notre Dame's case but in guys like Joey give Roy Selmon on the putter turn I don't think you need to throw the ball over the middle but you can throw them maybe a quick screen one of those bubble screens and give them a chance to do something after the catch but they're going all the time turning the ball over he's going to take his chances in OT last game for Notre Dame in overtime was November 30th of 96 at USC they lost 27 to 20 last season the brass going leave the year 3 to 30 here the overtime rules Pat coin toss for the right to play get a shot right if you win the toss you choose to play defense of course so you know what your offense has to do 25 yard line you get a series each if one of you scores the other doesn't game over each team will retain the ball by getting a first down or scoring repeated until the winner is determined you do get a timeout new rule last year beginning with the 3rd series that you have if you score the TD you have to go for the 2 ports this game has been such a terrific game it has come here on it comes down so much to the kickers yeah from the 25 but Nebraska is number one to hold on to the ranking and they're undefeated early part of the season they're going to have to knock off Notre Dame we are going to overtime it's South Bend [Music] quick Minervini with Matt hatin we are in overtime here at Notre Dame 21 to 21 [Music] the comeback Braska won the toss and I believe they chose to defend who first hey it's the guy who you wanna do you want to find out what you have to do on your offensive series look finders kick a field goal then you know at least you know only if you the touchdown wins it it also puts the pressure on the younger Notre Dame offense to put something on the board and keep in mind 14 of the 21 points came from special teams yeah and I think you know the biggest thing going in this overtime is two kickers that don't haven't been into the situational on nebraska's kicker didn't kick last week Notre Dame's kicker Nick cedex has kicked one field goal last week so something you don't see a lot in college football particularly in a game of this magnitude the number one team in the country the number 23 Irish all the tradition between the two schools the Irish were had the upper dog coming into this game at home when it's turned out to be a beauty and bob davie will block the whole month from Julius Jones right now first and 10 25 total about two maybe three push back on the play by Carlos poke the linebackers stepped up Carlos polo has great fish number Craig Bohl the defensive coordinator was saying about Carlos pulp this week at night he's a little bit back has it vision sees the hole and he get you know gets to hold just like a running back would oftentimes the running backs on the other side of that hole [Applause] they're obviously looking to the system they can get the first down as well second and nine getting just one battle on holding big time [Applause] [Music] it's a flag on Nebraska Dan over the tiny of his hell family well that's the case of the clinic take the rug from the quarterback battle but let's see you got [Music] was just trying to sneak out he's right in here watch what happens and this is kind of a pretty easy fault Oh Jersey on defense good reactions here by one thing gang season take great you want Arnez at this point to get out of bounce don't take you don't take here don't separate the shoulder get out about your mm but this came to play our battle a guy they can do that he was almost a callow to Frank Solich on the other side of all the way back out a couple of great blocks and didn't let up when he saw the flag come down either which is right in front of a first and goal at the 8 yard line don't forget Nebraska will get a shot even if the Irish score [Applause] his emotional side got to the five times are going down second and goal for the puck there was a touch down there saved by Lauren Kaiser the technical number 91 there was a crease there that Julius Jones saw when he got that ball I saw from up here I thought he was going to first anyway but it was Kaiser breakdown here slides down and closed off what's the hole see the hole there oh boy that's a touchdown if Kaiser doesn't make the play second and goal from the five Lipinsky is the full-back Jones the tailback in the i-formation receivers split left away George gets hopefully by Carlos felt he might have got that y'all got a crook plagued by 13 the linebacker from Rockford Illinois yeah hi sir again Lowell that time again play with Arnez battle having a couple of options run pass they at one time out in the overtime period a good use of the time out there by Arnez battle or Nez will come to the sidelines as Nick setter right there the field goal kicker sophomore they have the opportunity to put Notre Dame ahead if battle is gonna talk it over well he's not thinking field goal right now I promise you built-in difficulty how can I get three yards and and to me Arnaz battle is such a dangerous guy little bit like Crouch on the perimeter get him they just say no timeouts for me get him outside give much he had to run past kind of option maybe Craig you know we can run it and throw it in he hasn't been great on the touch of the past off today off however it does give you that option if somebody comes up that might be the play that they work on there's only three for fifteen passing in the entire game we talk so much fat about the mystique here at Notre Dame especially against the number one teams and look at their overall record against the number ones at home three and three but they come off too incredibly impressive wins over Miami lady eighth day the gutsy two-point conversion tried it one down in Florida State and Bobby Newcombe is feeling the pressure of an early season pressure of number one right now Nebraska got everything you could have expected everything the coach said about this game and more they hoped the coaches that the players bought into him [Applause] giggles emotion third and goal [Applause] [Music] jerry selecta and that'll push the field goal back to about a twenty eight twenty nine yard try great play by selected number 56 but notre dame was doing just we thought trying to get him on the fern with a run pass option select a get real good closing speed for a tackle me talk about that much with a defensive tackle and now the the field goal attempt fight nixon nixon off softball one kick in a surreal 32 yard good last week please season job remember good nebraska is it kicking particular these guys right there [Applause] sport touched up the game is absolutely yet be thinking your plate selection has to be thinking certainly about touchdown Nebraska has guys in the fact that they call the second row cold jumpers the guy in front of home robbers but you see the guys in the back van der Busch number 83 in particular block three kicks last year but good night bye setup [Applause] hey Senna is an incredible athlete great in high school 24:21 Nebraska takes over now at the 25 and they get one series here touchdown they win field goal of course another series for each team he's on the keeper pitching Alexander and the Huskies have seen that too all day long Shane Walton came up to bang out Alexander and once again the defense forces the pitch they said hey Eric Crouch is the best runner on the stub Raska team what we need to do is force the pitch rocky Voynich number 30 did that and then machine walk comes up and stuff to tackle so Nebraska has to call I think a quarterback designated run really give him props the kids will know second in 924 are dry now she's gonna pass screenplay playing and it's incomplete he was going for Wilson Thomas a guy that delivered a virus buddy wouldn't figure to be in the place she wanted on the garbage a friggin I'm really surprised that call this is not Nebraska's strong suit remember the already down by three Oh need a touchdown now necessarily right points keep seeing the game sold and a minimum make sure you give you a field-goal kicker a little better shot that's a surprising fall to be to force a firm in they lose their timeout little rascal they tried to prove because Thomas not even caught the ball now you're right though looking in a 42-yard Yahoo they don't cook up at a distance they've got a kicker last year went 1 for 4 between the 40 and 49 yard line yeah I mean I think that that's not the plan dig crouch on the on the option or a quarterback keeping the perimeter or in a minimum run something inside to pick up four or five maybe they give your field goal kicker a little bit more of an opportunity to have a chip shot now this becomes you know really critical play to things going through the quarterbacks and the coaches mine hey if minimum we have to pick up four or five yards to make it a little bit more reasonable it you know feel gold attempt and then you know don't turn the ball over you know if you got to throw the ball don't force the ball maybe he's thrown three interceptions this year absolutely quarterback draw anything with Josh's head bonusing still out of the rolls one way throw back across the field the other way route 6 for 14 with the int passing three wideouts in this formation botulinum under Santa wings to the right receiver is done as to the left single setback Alexander clocks back the best dates often over to the complete list on has got it on boy but I believe he has the first down think he does too great throw patient throw by aircrafts Wow and gets him the first down boy winstram did a great job of running around bouncing off a linebacker but he was covered kind of bounced off a linebacker he's the rad7 the right part of your screen a big passing lane there the quarterback throws it away from the defender to a onrushing Gedman a good throw and a good route by Winston first and ten at the 15-yard line eight overtime vote of aims for the field goal their chance and on alexander breaking free of dipping and he picked up eight yards Boynton helped to make the Sabbath driver but this is where Nebraska wants to be there about second and short this is where their offensive line it really is so good the note T number 77 kinda dominating his guide big hole there Dave Volk Biola the center did a good job of cutting his guy again touchdown wins the game for Nebraska does not get a second shot if Alaska what's the touchdown [Music] I have a thief I haven't seen a signal have you but the work is a touchdown of Nebraska Eric Crouch 16 touchdowns a year ago an option place he get a good block by Dan Alexander to [Applause] Braska Cornhuskers in overtime and fittingly on the shoulders of their leader Eric couch with his third rushing touchdown of the game for the second straight week and this one is a crusher for the Notre Dame Fighting Irish the sensational finish here at Notre Dame what's the BOC my number 38 - and it not only the strong run by Crouch but really the last block there by Det Dan Alexander allowed Crouch to get at the end zone whose is a as dynamic a runner inside the ten as you see in college football the last push down Walton actually was driver tried to catch him and couldn't do it and what a great run by Eric Crouch let's go down to Bob Bush use it alright coach congratulations that had to be as exciting a game as you've ever been apart oh well it was a great football game I thought both teams played exceptionally hard for four quarters no one gave up it was a really a close one down to the end of course it did not look very good when they kicked that field goal and we had that third and medium in but we were able to pick that up it was a key play to keep that drive along we have so far last year had one game like this and we were able to pull it out in overtime I pay great tribute to Notre Dame their coaches their football team they did a great job I'm very proud of our kids to be able to come back I thought that you know the Notre Dame did a great job on special teams and we let the to belong returns and killed a lot of momentum what does this mean for your team winning a game this early in the season in this type of atmosphere you're number one we know that this is a good football team but what does it do for you for the rest of the season football team they felt they could come in here and get it done we knew it would not be easy we feel notre dame's an excellent team against a.m. they played very strong in all phases of the game so in order to come in here and get it done on their field is big time and I think our kids deserve a lot of credit for it don't feel another dame deserves a lot of credit for the way they played today coach congratulations thank you for your time guys set back upstairs Frank thank you Bob today's Chevrolet players in the game crowd surprise surprise from Nebraska Julius George from Notre Dame in recognition of their efforts Chevrolet will make a contribution to each school's general scholarship fund the Chevrolet scholarship program has been a tradition for 30 years once again the final store from Notre Dame Stadium it's the Nebraska Cornhuskers 27 the iris 24 in overtime coming up tonight on NBC don't miss the Brady Bunch movie at 8/7 central and then after that stick around for the Hispanic heritage Ords an NBC special Capades but Bob will shoes in in the entire crew great for their baby
