2000-2005 Toyota Celica Buyers Guide! (The Best Affordable Sports Car In 2022)

welcome back to the channel guys today we're going to be doing a buyer's guide on the 2000 to 2005 celica also known as the 7th gen if you guys have a budget and are looking for a great first car but also wants something with a lot of tunability this is going to be the car for you and if you just want to stand out just a little bit more buying just a civic this is pretty much the toyota civic the corolla of this generation did not have a two-door model so the celica is pretty much the two-door version of it with a little bit sporty more styling and toyota's stick for this car is it looks fast that's not completely false because it actually is pretty fast with the 2zz in the gts model but the 0-60 is 7.3 seconds unfortunately this car did not come with all track or a gt4 model so you're not going to get that all-wheel drive to compete with the wrx or the evo but still this is an amazing front-wheel drive tuner car to compete with a two-door civic of the time in this buyer's guide we're going to go over all the differences made throughout the model years and between the models of gt and gts i'm going to tell you all the things that are most commonly wrong with this car and tell you the things that you should look for when buying this that will add value to the car last but not least i'll go over the rarest paint colors so you can look for a semi-rare celica this car came out at the end of the golden era for toyota pretty much after 2005 they stopped making all sports cars for a while until recently they cam they're coming out with the gr corolla the supra the new gr86 and all these other cars who knows if they'll come back with another celica or mr2 so even though right now this car isn't worth that much money in the future this is going to be a collector's car so let's go over the two different trims this car has the gt and the gts first we'll go over the gt the gt has a one zfe motor that makes 140 horsepower and 126 pound-feet of torque it comes with a 5-speed manual or a 4-speed auto and it's got drum brakes in the rear the gts model has a 2-z zge which makes 180 horsepower and 130 pound feet of torque this one comes with a six-speed manual instead of a five-speed like the gt and it's got disc brakes in the rear so if you didn't get anything from what i just said i'm gonna put it in simple terms buy the gts instead of the gt [Music] so now that we got the trims out of the way we're going to go the differences between the model years for 2000 2001 and 2002 they all had this front bumper it's a really simple bumper with just a hole to intake air with the toyota logo in the middle of it doesn't look too bad one thing to note though is that in 2002 they lowered the rev limiter to 7800 instead of the 8400 that it would be in any other year a way to fix this is from buying an ecu from either 2000 or 2001. for the 2003 to the 2005 model they took away that hole in the middle of the front bumper and instead made it a slit with a toyota logo above it one thing that happened in 2003 is they restyled the tail lights the gts trim gets drive by wire throttle and they restore the limiter up to the 8400 that was taken away in 2002. another thing that they started offering in 2003 was hid so if you want brighter headlights go with the 2003 and above and for o4 and o5 nothing really changed from 2003 except the action package change and i'll show you guys that later now we're going to get into the bad parts about these cars which is the problems that they had throughout the years if you buy a celica before 2003 these are the issues that you should look out for if you're buying a gt that one's easy might burn oil if the engine was not taken care of there is an issue with the filler neck there is a check valve on that filler neck and it's known to break causing gas to fall out so if you have the car parked and you see gas dripping out of it [Music] that's the reason why i think it's a recall from toyota but if not it's a really easy fix another thing on these prefaceless celicas is that the lift bolts tend to break so replacing them before they do would save you a ton of money and stress now we're gonna go on to the general problems with these cars no matter what year you get you're just gonna have to deal with these problems at one point in time the oil pump is known to fail at high rpms the way to fix this is buying an aftermarket oil pump or an oil cooler both would be preferred when you're on the track doing tight turns or you're just driving around and having a little bit of fun the 2zz can start with oil because the 2zz does not have baffling in the oil pan all the oil will slosh to one side leaving no oil to be picked up an easy way to fix this is either replacing the two zzz oil pan with a one zzz oil pan which has baffling or you can upgrade to the moroso oil pan which is really really nice i have that on my mr2 when you're looking at buying this celica make sure you rev it all the way up to 6002 rpms and listen to see if the cams change positions if your car does have an action package with the trd wing those struts are going to wear out faster so just replacing them is an easy fix the synchros on these cars are pretty weak so just test them out while you're driving go up through the gears and go down to the gears and if you hear any grinding that's a good way to knock a couple bucks off the car and the last thing that you should look out for is that the parking brakes are known to be stretched on these cars which is not too hard of a fix but you could use that as a bargaining tip also so now we're gonna move on to the number one thing you should be looking for in a celica for the exterior which is the action package or the elegant package the elegant package came out first this was on very early model celicas and it's a nice kit all the way around it's not too aggressive but it just adds a little subtle touch then in 2002 they came out with the action package and that lasted until 2004. it looks really nice it has a couple more cutouts in the elegant package and it just adds a little bit more aggressiveness to already a sharp car in 2005 they revised it instead of that hole being in the front of the bumper they changed it to a slit and i think this one is a little bit less aggressive now for my favorite part the five rarest colors you can get on a 7th gen celica and by the way these are in no order because there's only five colors that were made throughout all the years 2000 to 2002 they had the liquid silver metallic and it was replaced in 2003 by the silver streak mika it's pretty much just a simple gray i don't really see anything special about this one in 2003-2005 they had the solar yellow which was also on the mr2 now onto my two favorite colors for this car it's going to be the thundercloud metallic from 0.05 it's a nicer shade of gray and i think this is my favorite color for the car and then the last rare color for this car is the zeifer blue metallic this was made from 03 to o5 this would be my second choice if i ever got a celica so now that i've taught you everything you need to know on the 7th gen celica
