if you live in a low light house like mine then you'll know all about the struggles of keeping house plants happy and thriving just look at my home grow lights everywhere people might start to think I'm growing something Suspect with all these lights on all day but really I just want to keep my green buddies happy well there are a bunch of plants that will survive even the darkest corners of the darkest rooms and I'm going to blast through them in this video and stay tuned until the end because I've got a bonus round of plants that you really really don't want to keep in the dark otherwise you'll have a mutiny on your hands now this video does come with a caveat my plant friend no plant thrives in the dark it's just that some plants can tolerate lower light more than others so bear that in mind when watching this video light is always good and today's video is sponsored by the lovely folk over at fume who have a rather Nifty product I'll share with you in a jiffy so stay tuned this guy is easily the most popular plant in the whole wide world and thankfully it's also the Carefree easygoing type too I know what a rare commodity that is eh I found that you can pretty much plun a mon stare at anywhere and just happily do his thing money the monster lives a good 3 m away from the nearest window in my bedroom and she's giv me no jib whatsoever no yellowing or anything sure she'd probably grow a bit quicker and a bit bigger and have more perforations in the leaves if she lived closer to a south facing window but honey I just ain't got that no lowl light plant video would be complete without a mention of the king of all low lighthous plants the nighttime Warrior himself Zed the zzy pl you know the story by now don't you this guy would happily cuddle up to Harry Potter under the stairs at privet Drive no problem if he had the chance and he definitely wouldn't complain as much as Harry did if your home is just a glimmer of natural light then Zed will be your best bet he's easily the most tolerant of low light out of all the plants in this video and a raven Zed is all the better generally the darker the leaves a plant has the more it won't bat an eyelid for living in a dungeon so having a boring little Mis is all well and good but what if you want to have a bit of color to spice up your life sorry Zed but it's true you're just a bit dull anyway plants with lots of colors and variegation are generally a nogo for zero light but there is a night in shining armor ready to brighten up your do days and he's called Mac the calaa maayana you wouldn't think this fella could handle low light but but he does doesn't seem to mind that much at all I can't say the same for all calip because honestly I try to avoid the fussy Divas as much as possible but Mac is pretty forgiving so what if you want a gloriously flowering specimen to brighten up your dark days you might think you're fresh out of luck but actually you're not there is one flowering plant that seems to do pretty well in Lower Lights she's the peace lily don't get me wrong she probably won't flower when sat 4 M away from a window but what's new there right getting a peace lily to flower is like trying to get a dog to write a poem and lots of folks don't even like the flowers anyway so having it all the way back there is a win-win want a climber to brighten up a dark spot well you're in luck because Damian the poos Devil's Ivy is a real lowl light Trooper look I've got one all the way up there where there's absolutely no chance of him seeing any of the sky and he's grown these long limbs to snake around my dining room this is Mrs Sheffield's favorite and I'm surprised he's so happy all the way up there obviously the brighter the spot you have him the more variegation you'll get but Beggars can't be choosers my plant friend I mentioned variegation being a bit of a problem for low light situations earlier but there is a group of plants that seem to Buck this trend siph and Bakers in fact in my experience keeping these guys in semi decent light just makes the leaves go as yellow as Homer Simpson which is never a clever look on a plant since moving mine well away from the window and on my half they've been much happier I do now have these sansy grow lights shining over them but these are a relatively new addition they were perking up nicely well before these arrived here's another specimen that doesn't seem to appreciate the Finer Things in life that's light to a plant by the way now I've been trying to train my dragon to happily live on my west facing wind seill but he's just not having any of it it seems the pepperona Raindrop would much rather be sat in a darker corner of the room left to sulk and wallow in his own angst again he's a plant with dark green glossy leaves and they tend to do well in lower light that is my top tip for this video Yeah ignore the yellowing we'll call that uh an experiment gone wrong shall we I should actually give this guy a tidy up so he looks all prim and proper in front of all his lady friends and now it's the perfect time to hear about this video sponsor fume so when it comes to bad habits sometimes the easiest thing to do is replace it with a good habit sounds simple right now when it comes to this fume is pretty darn nice no battery no chemicals very simple but also very welld designed you have a core that you insert which come in all sorts of different flavors I actually have the Mint one in right now and also like the cranberry white but this mint one is my favorite and I've got to say this device has been designed very nicely indeed on the end you have an airflow adjuster that has a satisfying click when you turn it perfect for keeping your fing as busy to check this out for yourself you're going to go to trif nume.com Sheffield or scan the QR code and use code sheffi to get 10% off when you get the journey pack today that's TR f.com and use code Sheffield to save an additional 10% off of your order today now this last here is pretty much indestructible Sally The Snake plot really does take a beating from me she doesn't bat an eyelid not literally I'm not a plant beater anyway Sally was part of my zero light experiment I did last year and you've got to admit she doesn't look particularly traumatized does she not like a certain someone that I'll come to later in this video These plants are a staple of many a home or office the world over and for good reason the bleeding things just won't die no matter what we do to them here's another specimen that finds itself on this list that might surprise you this lass lives 3 m from the nearest window with her mate blocking the light too by the way and nothing seems to bother her nothing no yellowing no Browning no nothing a real trooper get yourself an agona Tigres you won't regret it not only stunning but remarkably well behaved enough to be on Santa's good list right ferns you either love them or hate them a bit marar you might say I've only got one because I've been a bit scared of them which is a bit silly really since getting this guy last year he's been fine they are another group of plants that tend to do well in low light situations I mean I see them all the time on the floor in my local Woods which not only has blocked light from the trees but block light from all the rain and clouds sorry I moan far too much about that in my videos give them tons of sun and they fry admittedly they thve in good indirect light but will exist in lower light too if you're not too bothered about all this thriving nonsense I made this rather wonderful if I do say so my s mixed posos planter for the channel last year and overall it just doesn't get the best light it's near a window sure but it sat right behind this large Calif ELO blocking all its access to the vitamin D the neon pothos in particular seems content enough with its lot in life which has surprised me I thought the neon colors would fade but they've stayed so another climber or hanger that is pretty easy going we're flying through this list and next we have sand deep the forever easy go in singian now you can pick up sand deep in various colors and they all seem to be equally tolerant of Lower Lights I've got this pink singian that is well away from the window and is blocked off by all her neighbors and although she's looking a touch leggy overall she's in pretty good health she did have a green brother that was equally unfussy but sadly we lost him to aphids last summer RP little man I am growing as Offspring though so all is not lost singian and the dart go together like green eggs and Hammer plant friend one of those plants blocking off sand deep is our lovely friend the green orange plant I say lovely but honestly me and her have had a checkered past all the leaves kept going black and I was pulling out my hair trying to figure out why yeah this plant is the reason I'm bored if you believe that you believe anything I finally figured out that it hates two things chlorine in the tap water and Sun I took both away and now she's the prettiest lass in the house house apart from Mrs Sheffield of course so yes she lives miles away from the window in an already dark house and she's loving life highly recommended I'm not sure why anyone would want this plant in their home but I best add it anyway because it's a bit of a low light champion and lots of folks do seem to love it you see I've got English ivy all over my garden and I'm sick of the sight of it truth be told I just don't want it to invade my home too but have at it if you're a fan and want to cover dark space with some green color they do pretty well this hairy monster is a tradescantia teddy bear Vine or cyanotis cenis to give it his proper name and he's like a dark lord of the Plant World I know you probably have your struggles with trads but this guy is one that is much easier to get on with I move him about all over the place normally in Darker spots and he's happy as Larry Larry just keeps getting hairier and hairier any other Trad would look like a leggy mess but this guy is a bushier in Harry Styles at last a Trad I can actually recommend if you've got a filad dender in Brazil which is a lovely plant by the way and it's not getting enough light then chances are the light green variegation will slowly go and you'll be left with the original variant the filad dendrin scandens well what if you're not that bothered about the light green variegation anyway then get yourself the original scandens and pop it somewhere dark simpol they're very forgiving and pretty nice to boot now I'm not particularly Enchanted by this group of plants but Jena is another specimen that don't mind not basking in the hot sun all day most of them are Dark leafed which explains why they don't tend to go that leggy without the vitamin D tons to choose from if that's your bag and you'll find them everywhere so as I promised here's a couple of plants that you most definitely don't want to keep in low light the main one is carnivorous plants these guys need tons of of light and will shrivel up and die if you keep them far from a window I've got sansy grow light shining right above the ones I've newly acquired that is helping a ton I've never been able to keep them alive otherwise and second is alloces alloces hate hate hate hate low light they hate it hate it I say if they don't get enough they have that annoying habit of going into dorcy it's why mine and probably yours look like a mess over the winter not enough vitamin D to keep them going I blast them with grow lights over the winter just to keep them going and even then the struggle is real and then her warus I mentioned my crazy experiment earlier where I kept a bunch of plants in zero light for months to see how they would get on and you should have seen what happened to my hafia but no spoilers go watch the video by clicking on the link now it was a lot of fun and subscribe for more fun too see you next time
