picking up in verses 9 getting through the topic that Paul's dealing with here regarding the judgment seat of Christ he just finished talking about his heavenly hope and the hope that he has to put on this this new body this glorified clothing that he says that he has every confidence that he'll receive because of Christ's resurrection because his salvations by faith not by works it's by grace and not by what he's done and so because of that he says in verse 6 and 8 we are confident we are always confident knowing that while we're at home in the body we were absent from the Lord we are confident I say and willing rather to be absent from the body to be present with the Lord in many religious systems of course when people consider whether or not they're going to heaven or being glorified or being with the Lord there's always this kind of thinking about the rest of their life where you know if I drop the ball before I die then that may not happen Paul says I'm very confident because it's not about him carrying the ball over the goal line he is saved by God's grace he says many places that we are saved and we who are saved and so it's because of Christ finished work that he's saved and so he can glory in that so now between now and death he's simply looking forward to the thing that will occur when he dies and until then his responsibility is to live now absent from the Lord present in his body laboring according to the will and mission that God would has given all of us to perform so this is what he's talking about here and thus we covered last week verse 7 we walk by faith not by sight which he put print parenthetically there and then in the context but it's so profound this statement of how we walk right when we don't we're not saved by faith and walk by works we were saved by faith we walk by faith because it's God's grace that we need every day and it's not by sight and so thank God for that we can't determine whether or not we're gonna be glorified and be with Lord in heaven based on what we see whether it be the visions and miracles or lack thereof or how how righteous our flesh becomes our flesh does not become righteous its Christ's righteousness for us or if it's science or science said there's no such place as heaven and there's no such thing as the soul we cover that last week in how faith actually gives us access to knowledge that people do not know just by their eyes so that was all last week this week then Paul says wherefore we labour that whether present or absent that's present with the Lord or absent from the Lord we may be accepted of him and so it's interesting here present with the Lord you would think well that would be a great day we just saying about when we all get to heaven that'll be a great day putting off the the sinful flesh and the the the place for rat in the present evil world we're in heaven and presently the Lord you would think well that's where I would be accepted we can see them face to face and because I'm saved by grace we sing in the song we'll see him and we'll shout the victory and this is that is the time right but Paul says here we labor now that whether present with him or absent from him which is now the absent from the Lord is what we are right now at home in the body right and so absolutely the Lord we labor that we may be accepted of him yes this is what he's gonna be talking about next few verses and so the idea here is that your eternal life your your acceptance with the Lord you shouting the victory even though we sing about us getting to heaven we shout it we can sing it now because we have that a heavenly position promised now we're confident that it's arms we're not to sing and then later feel ashamed that we sung the song is we didn't we didn't get it we have it by God's grace and through the gospel and so being as from the Lord we can't even now teach and preach and walk the victory and thus we walk now being absent don't we be accepted of him our eternal another way to say this is that our eternal life starts now we're not waiting until we die to start serving the Lord we're not waiting until we die I say okay now that we're in heaven now we can get busy about God's work and down here's all my work nope you're saved by God's grace which means you're in his body you're in his body so that now that when you're in your body you serve Him you labor you work okay you have this idea this goal right this motivation so this is the thought now Paul is also saying this wherefore we labour on that on the coattails of hidden describing this resurrection of glory but because he's being accused remember he's being accused of serving himself remember this that the whole book it's about Paul defending himself and apologizing for himself that they think his ministry is selfish its vain they think he's trying to pile up a following and trying to gain a financial gain for himself and everything else pat his own pocket and that's the accusation and so he's making a defense in this book and so we see it come out again here wherefore we labour why are we doing what we do this is why we do what we do let me be accepted of God of him not of you that's what he's saying right we're not working to be accepted of you Corinthians we're not working you be accepted of any man right be accepted of God that's why we're working that's why we labor you say so you see kind of this defense coming throughout the the book here Galatians 1:10 Paul says this idea throughout the scriptures and into his epistles because this this opposition to his Apostleship is consistent through his ministry people think that the reason why Paul says I received a mystery of Christ and the gospel was given to me was because he was arrogant and wanted to start a new religion and and he wanted to have his own following he was jealous of the 12 apostles and everything else you know and that's really not it at all yeah nothing to do with him but Galatians 1 is Paul's defense once again of this ministry he's been given from the Lord directly Galatians 1 and 2 he says he he's an apostle not of men neither by man but by Jesus Christ he says down in verse 11 I certify you brethren the gospel was preached to me is not after man I neither received it of man neither was I taught it by the revelation of Jesus Christ so he's making this defense of his Apostleship from jesus he didn't he didn't create this he's not trying to be at all also you know some some copycat or something in verse 10 he says for do I now persuade men or God do I seek to please men for if I yet pleased men I should not be the servant of Christ that's what he's been accused of incur in thien's he's saying go look you're put you're trying to please men and serve yourself these look do you think I'm pleasing men it might to persuade men or God right do I seek to please men if I a policeman should not be thrown of Christ he goes on to talk about how those who preach another gospel in that which he preached to them should be accursed and that's not to isolate himself as the the only person that you could listen to but because he knows the gospel he was given from Christ is what God is actually doing by rejecting Paul's Apostleship they're actually rejecting what Christ is doing today and I know that sound familiar or it's and people will take all the scripture and they'll say all the Bible is mine yet they'll place the priority in the Ministry of Jesus to Israel and then we talk about you we need to hear what Jesus said to Paul all they hear is Paul Paul Paul and we're gonna look we're not trying to worship the guy or magnify the guy at all just like Paul's trying to defend himself sound about me is that Jesus Christ appeared to him it gave him information so we need to listen to what he said because it's the Lord that told him this thing right he says that's the whole issue here but this has 110 the idea is that he's not trying to please men or persuade men because Christ made in this apostle and first us alone age four to verse four he says as we were allowed of God to be put and trust with the gospel even so we speak not as pleasing men but God which tries our hearts the trying of our hearts there has to do with or talk about tonight the judgment of God he's gonna stand before God and give an account for himself he's our Christ and before any of us or any of the Corinthians and Thessalonians even account to them you say it's to God because of that he Labor's and and he faces persecution and suffering because he knows God is seeing him and God's given him in responsibility and he answers to him and so he's not answering to any man persistently to verse four his his duty has been given from the Lord now done it and chapter four verse 1 he says the same thing a similar thing furthermore then we beseech you brethren and exhort you by the Lord Jesus that as you have received of us how you ought to walk them to please God so you would abound more and more so you received of us how you ought to walk and please God and remember the verse how we may be accepted of him he's the whole point of how we do ministry or studying the scripture rightly divided is not so that we get puffed up so that we can say we know more than you do right or so we can go argue someone down and say you're wrong that's not the point the point of us studying the scripture what we do so we can be better ministers because we answered the little Lord we're gonna answer to him or the work or did we do in his body and he's gonna say well how'd you do that work and the reason why we spent so much time as study is to equip ourselves to train ourselves in practice that we can be able ministers as saying this is the idea and so second Emily 2:15 I just quoted the verse it's like a study to show thyself approved unto God we love to quote the last part of that verse speaking out rightly dividing the word of truth but first pars old point of that is to show yourself yourself approved unto God it's not a collective effort where since we all are in the same group holding hands and I've started to show myself approve that you're also approved that's not how it works so to show yourself approved as what Paul is saying right so that when you are standing for the Lord giving accounting to him your workmanship can be accepted of him and not be a shameful thing right this is the idea that he's going to explain no he says since everything's 5 wherefore we labour that whether we'll be present or apps what may be accepted of him of God verse 10 for we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ see that's what he's saying we must all appear there's no one accepted the judgment seat of Christ everyone in fact Hebrews 9:28 says now Hebrews written to to Israel of course but it speaking generally about all men says his destined for man was to die and then to face judgment nobody escapes that even Christians who preach salvation from a damnation in hell because of their sins through Jesus Christ as a Christians preached were saved from the consequences of our sins because of Christ's work right even Christians are not exempt from the judgment okay there is a judgment that has to be performed that has to be accomplished has to be done and so every man dies then faces God in judgment and so Luke Romans 14 verse 2 we look at a couple places here second Corinthians five is one of three primary places where Paul details this idea of the judgement seat and how we as Christians we as believers will be at this judgement seat almost 14 verse 10 he's talking here about believers in the body and saying why do you judge your brother or do you despise your brother why does thou judge thy brother or why does thou set it not thy brother for we shall all stand before the judgment seat of Christ now it's interesting in this verse in your King James Bible said the judgment seat of Christ and some other Bibles it'll say just judgment seat of God taking Christ off the judgment seat in the verse and that's like that because of course they're translating different manuscripts and things but this is a very good proof of Christ deity if it is Christ which it is in your Bible because two verses later so then every one of us shall give account of himself to who God I know Jesus is God the government's 14 verse 10 who's sitting on the judgment seat Christ you sit on the judgment seat in verse 12 god Christ is God okay that there's there's the proof of his deity there but the the verses here say that we're all we shall all stand before the judgment seat of Christ for as it is written as I live saith the Lord every knee shall bow to me and every tongue shall confess to God so then every one of us shall give account of himself to God so we have the everyone no one exempt kind of idea here but also for yourself it's not everyone's there we all get in our church groups and say yeah we represent great ambassadors yeah that's that's not how it works it's everyone and everyone individually before God you can account for yourself your pastor doesn't the priest doesn't your nomination doesn't you do right your husband doesn't your family doesn't you do and so that's kind of a fearful thing because here we have the comfort of being working together with one another and we we lean on each other and we work together with each other and our weaknesses are complemented by each other and in the Lord and then here you are saying for the Lord by yourself and all your shortcomings and failures everything that's you and that you can see where that can be a terrifying type of idea right before the Lord Jesus Christ if it wasn't for the grace of God that we believe that Christ is offering you it would be terrifying wouldn't it right but this is what this is what takes that edge off is that that Christ you're standing before the judge he's the one that died for you remember God commended his love through Christ and he's the judge so he's only the judge he's the Savior in fact in this chapter in second in spiteful gwaan we'll talk about next week in verse 14 to say the love of Christ constrains us laughter he says the terror of the Lord he says the love of Christ constrains us it's the same God who judges and he shows abounding love right of course that love and grace is only applied to those who trust his finished work this is thus we walk by faith right meanwhile Romans 14 10 through 12 is a place where talks about this judgment and first one against three is the other place let's turn there for in thien's three and we'll be here for a little bit tonight as well verses 9 through 13 where Paul is talking to the Corinthians and his first epistle and their issue of course was that they had no respect or didn't know or denied or refused to think that the way they lived their lives now that they were saved mattered at all because after all Paul's grace rights not works so we're saved I mean we're good we're in heaven doesn't matter how we live Paul writes to the Corinthians and sends lots of reasons why you ought to do right and this was one of them there's a judgement seat here to stand before the Lord your head your Savior and give an account for yourself persons 3 verse 9 we are laborers together with God ye are God's husbandry ye are God's building so talking to believers here according to the grace of God which is given unto me as a wise masterbuilder I have laid the foundation and another bills thereon but let every man take heed how he builds thereupon of course the building here is referring to is the church right these are believers in the body of Christ the husbandry the building the body and so he's saying people were building on this thing and you have to be careful take heed how you build on there on for other foundation can no man lay and that is laid which is Jesus Christ now if any man build upon this foundation Jesus Christ gold silver and precious stones wood hay and stubble if every man's work shall be made manifest for the day shall declare it because it shall be revealed by fire and the fire shall try there's that word again try judgment every man's work of what sort it is if any man's work abide which he had to built thereupon he shall receive a reward if a man's work shall be burned he shall suffer loss but he himself shall be saved yet so as by fire you scaped a burning building you escaped but your building burnt you know it's always saying in the metaphor here and so what is the work that you're doing what is it that you're building how are you building according to what blueprints are you building right this is the the idea of this judgment here so it matters greatly how we live now at this point I don't want to pause for a moment cuz we're talking with the judgment-seat and how Paul mentions at these three different places that we will face a judgment see we'll talk later about the criteria of this what is it on what standard are we judged want the floor but before that I just want to lay out on the table that this judgment right here we're talking about that Paul's mentioning in that second Corinthians and amidst the first Corinthians is not the only judgment in the Bible Hebrews 9 talks about its destined for man wants to die and then face the judgment and that's just speaking generally death than judgment but in the scripture there's not only one now a lot of folks who want to spiritualize the Bible and not take it literally will always reduce the things that God is doing for example they'll say everything in the Bible is to you right so where we would say well God has his his operation he works through the nation of Israel which is different than how it works through the church they'll say yeah that's all the same he's doing one thing all the time right there's just one Church will say well there's a few different churches in the Bible there's a church in the wilderness the church and Jerusalem they're at church the body of Christ what I add they're all the same right well there's quite a few dispensations in the sky they're all the same right well there's different resurrections you know there's a resurrection that the church has is a resurrection at the end of the tribulation and no no they're all the same one resurrection well there's many judgments in the Bible there's one here and there's one there none others only one you ever heard this idea one resurrection one judgment one church is one gospel one everything it's because they don't have the eyes to discern the differences the only way you can see one everywhere is if you don't pay attention to the details right it doesn't if every we've used the example before about you know your wife or your spouse you know it's as if I every time I saw a woman I say it's the same woman same one okay so obviously keep looking at the details are different alright that's what people do at the scripture it sounds the same looks the same walks the same same woman that has black hair she has brown hair you know he's tall and he's a short and I'm there this judgment is about that this judgments to that person the servants at that time they're different you see what people will tend to do is say well you can't take the Bible literally and so those differences don't matter those details don't matter we're gonna take a high view stand five feet away and read from here we don't do that of course okay God wrote the Bible every word of the Bible's been inspired and preserved for us to studying to know and it means what it says God said what he meant so we study every word seeing that there are different judgments in the Bible and so just a quick outline here a few of the judgments this is not all of them because this is a whole study you can do about God's judgments in the scripture we learn from the very beginning in the Garden of Eden when God said if you eat the fruit you'll die right there was a judgment there and they ate the fruit they had to sit down with God and he put the curse on the the serpent and he has this judgment on the woman the judgment on the man all right he kicks him out of the garden there's a judgment right in there out then we see later in Genesis 6 is us worldwide judgment after a thousand years or so of man God leading man to their own devices God judges the entire world and floods them out right and that's a judgment by water and after that we see God judges the world again when he tells them to scatter over the face of the earth and multiply and chase the animals and they don't they build that Tower of Babel right what's he do it confounds the language a judgment against them the Bible is a record constantly of God's gracious provision got a man's unthankfulness towards that and rebellion and then god's judgment against them and almost every time after a judgment God gives there's always as he says a person against in a way to escape okay there's never a time where God's capriciously unrighteous Lee violates this principle every time there's a judgment God provides a way to escape okay it's man that refuses the way that's always the case they refused the way and say God is a vindictive and vient and violent and as you know unjust and cruel even though his judgment is always righteous and his judgment doesn't respect persons that's typically the issue that people have by the way people don't like the way God judges because God doesn't respect persons you know we're so distorted in our sense of righteousness that we don't know what that means not to persons let me give you an idea what it means to respect persons okay you read something in the news about someone doing some egregious sin you see oh that's horrible that they did that sort of thing you know they're gonna go to jail for that they're gonna be condemned for that right you kind of read it just nonchalantly then here comes someone in your family doing the same thing what's your natural reaction to someone your family doing that your natural action is have mercy on them and ouch reaction is well they were having a hard time and that's reaction is justifying give an excuse right but what are you doing there you're respecting their person because they're related to you somehow what they've done is not as bad as someone who's not related to you right this this idea of respecting persons now I'm not saying it's it's not right to love and show mercy I'm not saying that at all I'm just simply saying that's that's how easy it is to corrupt righteous judgement is because we're friends with someone because they're related to us suddenly I don't want to judge righteously because I know these people well that's that's respecting persons right the same thing would happen in courtroom if the judge said oh well here's this banker who is charged with corruption and fraud but he's my best buddy we you know we play cards every Saturday so we're gonna them off the hook you know it's this that's corrupt right that's a corrupt judgment but he's respecting the person it's always doing I know this guy that is not what God does with us some people preacher like this I say the salvation is simply when you know the right people who get in right so you know Jesus let's again so God looks at you and says oh I know you you get in that's not how it works really that would be God respecting persons right the way you get saved you don't deserve salvation or having her glory or anything okay you're condemned the only way you could be saved is a righteous if the righteous judge could judge you and the payment be paid and so God can be just the righteous judge and the justifier the Savior in Jesus Christ that's why he had to die right if he didn't die and you said let him in it be a respecter of persons an unrighteous judgment it's perfectly righteous because Christ took the punishment for sins and if you don't trust Christ to take that punishment for him to take your punishment then you take the funds from the sins could God doesn't respect persons people tend to think well God should let us go because we're all human what does that matter right you want him to respect you in some way as a person and not judge righteously on what was right and wrong you see we didn't forget that and when we teach grace a lot and we talk about grace and God's glorious grace and it's wonderful we tend to forget that this grace is actually built upon a righteous judgment it's not God just letting people go it's not God saying okay I give up I love you too much it's not that at all it's God saying the only way I can save you is if I send my son to pay the payment that way I can be righteous and just and to Savior at the same time right and so grace is built on that a righteous judgment without the righteous judgment from God we don't need grace you just need God to let me in right you maybe you can write him in some way right of course this is ridiculous to think this but meanwhile this is how people think but God judges in the scripture righteously and if I draw the cross up here that's what I've been talking about how grace God's work on your behalf actually is a righteous payment for your unrighteousness right for your sense the atonement for your sins so that God can legally and judicially say I can count you righteous by faith when your faith is in the finished work of Christ if your faith is in something else I can't count that as righteousness you see that the problem there that's why the what your believing is important well I got faith I got faith in God Nathan God for what God is right just God is holy God is just God will not acquit acquit the wicked what are you trusting to do you can't trust him to do anything more than what he is and what he is is a righteous judge and he's got a judge sin why trust God what he'll let you in because he likes you I mean that doesn't work that way you have to trust what Christ did his offer is provision and when you trust that God can look at you and say I can righteously save that person I don't want to be unrighteous to do I can be righteous because this is the righteous work of God when he paid for sins trust that then he could righteously save you this makes sense I know mitten gospel it's not really the issue driving but that's judgement so righteous judgment they're Romans three is all about that Romans 3 4 and 5 is the righteousness of God in Christ that's what that means how he does not have to let go of his holiness and justice in order to save sinners which seems so absurd until you understand Christ okay meanwhile the endless judgment on the cross yet this judgment of sin where Christ was made sin for us that we might be made the righteousness of God in him so this judgment there not every believer who believes the gospel of Christ the finished work of Christ for their behalf has their sins judged right here by the cross right this is glorious this is the glorious gospel of grace and so here you are over here and you're going well you can't judge me for sins because Christ died for my sins and that the judgment for my sins was taken there and so if you staying for God and God goes alright let's account for your sins here what are you gonna do about those sins is he gonna do that is this the judgment we're talking about you're gonna say I'm for God I give an account for all your sins well no what was that as Christ did that you see the difference here if you sit for Christ he judged you for your sins we would all fail the judgment wouldn't we the judgment would be you were a sinner and therefore you deserve to die well that's already been determined before you were born it's been determined that's why Christ was sent when you put your faith in Christ God looks at that and says alright I can save this person the judgment we face before the Lord Jesus Christ this judgment seat Paul's talking about is not for sins if you're a believer if you're an unbeliever of course you're not in Christ just came for the same Lord and he's going who's your Savior and they didn't trust him you see they have no no no offer to take meanwhile Romans 5 verse 9 Paul talks about this judgment here this imputation of our sins on Christ and he says much more than being now justified by his blood we shall be saved from wrath through him if you're saved by his blood for the forgiveness of sins redemption from from the consequences of sin the Romans 5:9 says you'll be saved from wrath whose wrath God's wrath right so again this judgment that we face is not going to be for the wrath of God upon our souls forever and that's not the judgment we're talking about tonight okay but to believers verse 10 says if we were enemies we were reconciled to God by the death of his son how much more being reconciled we shall be saved by his life not only so but we also joy in God through our Lord Jesus Christ by whom we have now received the atonement okay so you have over again Paul talks about this idea where Jesus took the judgment for our sins right Galatians 3 verse 13 says Christ has redeemed us from the curse of the law being made a curse for for us but from our judgment tonight and we would all stand accursed before God if the judgment was for our sins right that's the curse he was made a curse for you your sins were judged by Christ on the cross if you believe the gospel if you don't then good luck could you'll stay before God accursed never be accepted with him okay 1st Timothy 2 6 Paul says it he says who Christ gave himself a ransom for all we testified in due time immediate we got a man judgment for sin right there now the judgment time I'm on tonight is not this after the cross chronologically you had God dealing with Israel and then you had he had Israel over here receiving the power of the Holy Spirit and operating according to the prophetic program Peter preached the gospel the kingdom they had Israel within Israel fell right so he had Israel here fallen Israel fell so you had not only sinners of the world but Israel God's people were also counted to be sinners and you have this kind of this dispensation it's time where God should righteously judge the whole planet as everyone is counted sinners but instead he reveals this mystery to Paul and we have this teaching of the body of Christ right and this is where we're at now in 2nd is 5 Paul talks about this body of Christ going to be judged this body for the Lord turns five verse 10 talks about it first in his three talks about it we saw in Romans 14 second 54 verse 1 Paul says that the judgment of Christ will come when he appears right to judge and first Corinthians 4 Paul says I'm not judged of you or any man I'm judged the Lord when he appears and makes things known so we had the body of Christ here who has this judgment so if this is the first judgment on our on our chart tonight this would be the body judgment be the second this is what Paul calls the judgment seat of Christ there are other judgments however in the Bible is a judgment of Israel in the earth after the body of Christ has taken off of this planet to meet the Lord in the air God resumes his dealing with Israel in fact he he takes Israel and causes them to rise from the ashes nation of Israel return and they won't only return but they'll return at a time of great purging and tribulation in the Bible there's my fire and great purging the Bible talks about this judgment on Israel okay where God is going to judge the nation according to whether or not they have faith to see who would get into that Kingdom he started doing that when he came the first time remember in the first time he came to divide the nation with and those who believed and didn't the name Israel fell was counted an unbelief and judge was going to come but he's gonna raise a resurrection Israel like John the Baptist said he can have these stones make the nation of Israel he's gonna resurrect Israel through this Tribulation and fiery judgment and trial so it comes out on the other side is a pure righteous saved nation of Israel okay this is found the scripture you career back in Isaiah four fact it's interesting let's go back to Isaiah four just look at this real quick as they have four deals with this this is a judgment of Israel and the earth you read about this in Revelation by the way we're in the subject revelation here as af4 verse 2 in that day shall the branch with the Lord be beautiful and glorious and the fruit of the earth shall be excellent and comely for them that are escaped of Israel notice verse 2 it's a glorious day a new day the the the the day the Sun has risen the new day has come and so Isaiah force talked about this time after this judgment because it says in verse 2 then that our escaped of Israel what did they escape what they escaped verse 3 shall come to pass that that that he that is left in Zion and he that remains in Jerusalem shall be called holy remained from what the remnant of what what happened that there's only there's these think people that are gone some are gone and some are left you've heard that before what happened in verse 4 when the Lord shall have washed away the filth of the daughters of Zion and so I urged the blood of Jerusalem from the midst thereof by the spirit of judgment in the spirit of burning you see that in verse 4 the Lord is going to come to the nation of Israel to this earth is going man I sound anti-semitic don't I I'm not I'm for Israel's salvation but the scripture talks about a purging because God's going to use Israel to save the world before he does that he's got to take away the filth from the chaff and so this nation of Israel is gonna go through this spirit of judgment this time of judgment and burning we're by those who don't believe those who aren't truly Israel are gonna be burnt and fall away so those that are left that's this great day as those that are left they're gonna be there for this Kingdom will get the Kingdom here right that's the kingdom that comes to Israel to the earth but it's in Israel's in Jerusalem right well the only people that can inhabit this kingdom of God on the earth this kingdom from heaven is the righteous nation of Israel - see what I'm saying here so you have this judgment on the nation purging them Malachi talks about this - 4 3 verse 5 where when the Lord comes to Israel comes to the earth he'll come with judgment right in 1st Peter 4 he talks about a judgment coming first to the house of God and the spirit of burning over here in 1st Peter 4 verse 17 but time has come that judgment must begin at the house of God if it first begin at us watch now the end of them be that obey not the gospel so there's judgment on the believing remnant there Israel and again this judgment is it's a judgment of condemnation if you're not in the Covenant but if you are in the Covenant what's it doing to you it's purifying you that's what it's doing the Bible talks about Israel being purified as silver writes let's take away all the chaps they come out glorious right and all the dross and that sort of thing yeah pather pastors discusses this Jude 14 of 15 Jude verse 14 and 15 talks about this judgment I will you find these passages about this judgment the Hebrew epistles because the Hebrew epistles are the ones they're gonna go through it this is where Hebrews epistles belong right here going through that time of judgment tribulation Jude 14 anak also nope that's not what I want oh yeah in there so behold the Lord comes with ten thousands of his Saints when's that gonna happen yeah the Lord comes and when the Lord comes relish nineteen he comes with a sword doesn't he because with ten thousands of his Saints to execute judgment upon all and to convince all that are ungodly among them of all their ungodly deeds which they have ungodly committed and of all their hard speeches which ungodly sinners have spoken against them these were ungodly anymore you know the verse is interesting and I said he's going to come to convince all that are ungodly convinced them because they're not convinced these aren't people you know saying I live in sin and I know these people who don't think they are which is why they think God's a hypocrite right he's gonna come back then he's gonna convince them I'll convince you I'm here too you know actually a judgment to the liars and the thieves and the adulterers and everything else and he'll show unconvinced in this judgment who is really and who is not okay meanwhile revelation 11 talked with the same thing and you can pull up these pastors on your own there's a judgment after this other place in the Bible called the time of Jacob's trouble the time tribulation of God's wrath being poured out on Israel and the earth but there's a judgment that comes after this it's prior to the kingdom of God after he takes the high places makes them low in the low places and makes them high the nation of Israel rising you had this judgment before the kingdom and Jesus talks about this in Matthew 25 remember this where he gathers the nations together and in all this war years over there's no more war going on he's ready to start his kingdom and so he sits there in Matthew 25 go back here you can read a little about this people think this is the judgment they'll face and this is not this is way over this is whatever your two judgments removed from us Matthew 25 down in verse 31 when the Son of man shall come in his glory and all the holy angels with him then shall he sit upon the throne of his glory when's this occur here when the Son of Man comes in his glory he sits on the throne right here right that's what's talking about that doesn't occur back here by the way right we don't know when in the moment in the twinkling of an eye we put on incorruption and we meet the Lord in the air there is an archangel sounding but that's not this verse right here this is when the Son of man comes back to the earth with this angel sitting on his throne on the planet that's different than our judgment you say when verse 32 before him shall be gathered all nations this is not the body of Christ the church this is the nations of the earth and he shall separate them one from the other as a shepherd divides his sheep from the goats this is also called the sheep and goat judgment you may have heard of this it's a division of the nations you shall set the sheep on his right hand the goats on his left then shall the king sanded them on his right hand what's the result of this judgment come he blessed of my father inherit the kingdom he said I put it right here the kingdom is just he the war is over the purging is done we got the nation of Israel they're ready to go and the kingdom starting now he brings the nations together and says okay he's going in with the nations all right like Gentile nations because mirror what did God say way back there with Abraham if you bless Abraham you'll be blessed if you curse Abraham you'll be cursed so the Nate the way the nation's responded to Israel will determine whether they get in so here the way the nations responded to Israel determines when they get in it's saying that in Jesus is gonna say all right those are my right-hand sheep right sheep nations inherit the kingdom and once he say the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world now one thing you know about that verse 34 there is that this is not a mystery at all right if it's the kingdom prepared from the foundation of the world that it's not a mystery kept secret on the foundation of the world you as the body of Christ are part of a mystery purpose of God where you have a position in heavenly places never spoken about before from the foundation of the world there's a secret mystery but this judgment is something that had been spoken ever since Genesis Abraham and Israel all that and now it's finally coming to pass work G Christ is there the king is there the kingdom set up and he's going who's getting in right sheep and goats that's the judgment okay so you could talk about that just a little bit more with on time talking about how if you how do you get into this judgment I was hungered and you gave me meat I was thirsty you gave me drink I was a stranger he took me in he fed that the hunger you clothed the naked men 25 times but all that and Christians today think well this is this is how God is going to judge us because that's what he said right but this is this judgment here now is it wrong to feed the hungry no that's wrong to clothe the naked no it's never wrong for this but that that's the basis these actions are actually the basis upon which they get into God's kingdom on the earth and so Christians today think the way I get into members of spiritualizing everything the way get into God's heavenly kingdom and eternity and salvation to get the whole shebang is if I give clothes to the naked and feed the hungry where's the gospel of grace in that it's nowhere to be found folks that's that's not the preaching across whenever we talk about your judgment being taken here your salvation they're right your works do not get you in trance into heaven for eternity but you can see how that can be misinterpreted from this passage if this kingdom is heaven and Jesus says you got to feed someone and clothe someone to get into it then you can see where they can say be a Christian it means I do these good things right you see that so it's important you understand the differences in the judgments or else if you really get confused about salvation and how you and what God expects of you this is where you put mark 942 remember mark 9 where Jesus says if your eye offend thee pluck it out if your hand offend thee cut it off number that why he said it's better to go into the kingdom with one eye and not to go on with do this he thought this thing right here right is it going through this time of tribulation here it's better that you lose your hand right there take that mark of the beast on your hand not gonna do it off your hand better to lose your hand to going to the kingdom with not to go into kingdom with to right that's what he's saying it's where you put that in Joel chapter 3 verse 2 and 14 talks about this judgment and Joel 3 we talk about gathering the nations into the valley of decision right gathering the nations the valley decision there's the Lord and he's going to judge them right so anyway a lot of study you can do on that the last one we'll talk about is the judgment of the wicked and this is going to be at the end of the kingdom by the way in this kingdom there's this there's this pit of fire where the Lord Jesus Christ is gonna rain here in this kingdom and those who do not pass into the kingdom get thrown into this this hell right Matthew and Matthew 25 times about that everlasting destruction all that business but you have this other judgment this fifth judgment that we have on our list tonight which is often called the great white throne judgment you heard of this it's called that because of the verse in Revelation chapter 20 and this were concerns the new heaven and the new earth will dispel some cloud there and some some earth and some new heaven and a new earth and before you get into the new heaven and new earth is going to be this judgment in Revelation chapter 20 after the Millennial thousand-year kingdom that Christ will reign on the planet with the nations you see why it's important to rightly divide your judgments I mean you don't know which one you're facing here now this one is terrifying revelation 20 in verse 11 I saw a great white throne now this is after verses 1 through 60 a thousand years of Christ reigning on earth in his kingdom with the Saints but here it says I saw a great white throne and him that saw on it from whose faith the face the earth and the heaven fled away there was found no place for them I saw the dead small and great stand before God and the books were opened another book was opened which is the book of life and the dead were judged out of those things were written in the books according to their works the sea grew up their dead death and held lowered up there dead which were in them and they were judged every man according to their works the death and he'll were cast at a lake of fire this is the second death terrifying number 21 talks about at verse 8 the fearful unbelieving abominable murderers whoremongers sorcerers idolaters and Liars shall take have their part like a fire which burns with fire and brimstone which is the second death that's that judgment right there right if you're alive today and you're not saved you're not going up here for this judgment right you're staying down here if you survive the wrath of God on the earth if you survive this judgment like getting into the kingdom you've got this terrible judgment right here now I say if you survive it's not gonna happen folks you're gonna die right if you if you're not safe because there's gonna be wrath on the earth here and you're gonna hit this judgment you don't get hit with this one if you hit with this what he's gonna say you're a sheep or a goat try to operate for a thousand years in your sin when Christ is reigning is the king of the earth you're gonna end up here right but then we people born in this kingdom and we born and there'll be a rebellion beginning his kingdom and it's those people and all the dead from the beginning of the world will be resurrected for this judgment he'll judge the mall corner their works as they refused from the beginning of the world God's grace at every moment and so all the debts we gain the world be resurrected here John 5 talks about that even the dead we've resurrected to damnation and they'll race here staying for the Lord and he'll say look at your works you think you could have done it on yourself look at your works it deserves death you see that's the terrifying one you see how many how often God gives grace and we're still laying at living in this dispensation of grace many judgments let's go ahead sir Guardians 5 the topic was not to go through all those tonight I need to get two hours because that's what Paul's topic is second Corinthians chapter 5 Paul says in verse 10 we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ that every one may receive the things done in his body according to that he hath done whether it be good or bad Paul says we're going to receive the things this judgment here for the body of Christ called the judgment seat of Christ it's going to be one for what you receive according to what you do and he said essence a lot like he over here doesn't according your works yeah a scorned here works it's according to your service but remember we've already talked about your sins being judged already with the cross so this is a judgment of saved people there will be rewards in second Timothy chapter four verse 8 Paul mentions this about himself he's saved in the body of Christ and he's looking forward to especially the end of his ministry being with the Lord in glory and he says henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness which the Lord the righteous judge shall give me at that day and not to me only but unto all them that all also that love his appearing and so Christians sometimes have a teaching of the different crowns you'll receive from the Lord and there's a crown of righteousness and you thing like this and you know what are you gonna do to get that crown you know let me tell you this folks is that none of us are righteous you know this right none of us are righteous any righteousness you have is imputed to you by the Lord Jesus Christ Paul's looking forward to that crown of righteousness imputed to him of Christ when he dies and puts on eternal life in glory that's what he's talking about here okay he's not talking about I did something so great I deserve a crown that's not it if some Christians have the idea based on Revelation which has nothing to concern them the thought will earn a bunch of crowns based on our work here and we'll take all of our crowns and throne with the feet of Jesus we'll be so humble at that point that thanks for all the rewards God here you can have him as if he needs them you know no but anyway there would be rewards it's my point here look at Ephesians chapter six verse eight Peter six verse eight knowing that whatsoever good thing any man doeth the same shall he receive of the Lord whether he be bond or free whatever good man dues does he'll receive the Lord doesn't that sound conditional yes it does that's the nature of judgment at this point some folks who love God's grace as do I but they'll love God's grace I'll stand up and say wait a minute some grace and not your works then he shouldn't be handing out rewards based on works we should all get them kind of like you go to the baseball game and everyone gets a trophy there's no losers at the game right this is the idea all saying by grace we all get everything so wait a minute no no you're saved by grace you stand by grace you walk by grace but a righteous judge cannot look at people who do things differently according to honor and purity and faithfulness and say yeah you're all deserving of the greatest honors are you and that would be unrighteous wouldn't it a righteous judge has to give rewards to works that are good he has to you understand when you obey the will of God a righteous judge is that saying that's what you should have done let's go yeah well yeah it is what you should have done but there's a reward for the service you say that's what a righteous judge does and likewise when you say well I'm saved by grace don't needed to do anything you fear before the Lord and glory he's not gonna be like good job buddy that's that's not right just an honorable at all you see so the judgment seat we face is still a judgment we're saved by grace we've read four strains three that you'll be saved even as so by fire the fire will determine it and judge the work of what sort you do but you'll be saved by God's grace but it's judgment of your works of the sort the quality the kind that they are and whether or not they deserve reward that's what it is it's none of your sins let's list all these guys sins to see if they're deserving in this heavenly position no no and that's already been established you're not deserving let's look at this person's service to see the kind of work they've done here what they've been doing to build my body right and that work is gonna be made manifest by fire of this judgment and as a result they'll only be a purified the works that lasts will be there okay the works that don't will not be there if God's eternal body of Christ and those heavenly glories were dependent upon the fallible corruptible often compromising work that we do now then pity on God that the body of Christ is gonna have all these holes in the walls for eternity right he won't let that happen to his building we're building a body for Christ as his members and when we get to this judgments gonna say all right let's let's fix all the problems right let's purge off all the stubble and all the hay and all of the the wood so all that remains is gold and silver and precious stones right a perfect body of Christ right you ever have this thought where it's like well I'm doing the best I can trying to serve the Lord and that's a good attitude to have but you know that you you're not perfect how can our fallible service create this thing that's eternal it doesn't you know it's God that doesn't praise God right he's using you a broken type of thing it's Christ's strength in you that's even doing any of this it's his gospel his words is His grace you know and so you have that that idea well I can't do it oh I can't do it right well yeah praise God and thank God for His grace that's what this judgments gonna make manifest the things that you did that light will last the things you did that won't that's what it is terrifying yes terrify in the sense that at that moment you'll realize how much of your work was spent in vain and how much was not right but good in the fact that the result of this for everyone is that there's going to be this heavenly perfection and glory at the end of it the things that didn't matter will be gone right be burnt up that's the glory in our judgment here is everyone's gonna be saved and finally this whole thing it's gonna be made pristine does it make sense I'll try to give you some hope in this judgment here but the same time we have motivation and we're driven by this judgment so we don't want to lose here we want the work that we do to last right and so we have that idea will receive things here in Galatians 6 and 7 Paul says that you'll reap what you sow right so this principle that yeah you're gonna sew a good thing a reap a good thing that applies to this judgment as well now what is it these rewards that we're getting what are they actually are they literal crowns look at flip ins for verse 1 are they literal crowns that we're getting here okay we get to heaven he says good job here's a gold medal good thank you oh yes I'll wear that for the next millennia you know is it a Blue Ribbon that you can put in your heavenly mansion what is this I mean what actually you know even on earth those things are vanity aren't thank you no perfect attendance there you go gold stars you like yeah thanks that's gonna lose this luster pretty quickly alright what what are these rewards God's giving what could he possibly give us when we have heaven staring us in the face right we have heaven we got glory and he's going on and here's the cherry on top yeah what is it well look at Philippians chapter 4 God is perfect folks this is not some man-made system imagination this is God's words okay when you read this more like I don't know what that's like and I don't understand how it's gonna work trust God that he knows what he's doing right he's not a child up there as people blasphemously say that he is looking for verse 1 therefore my brethren dearly beloved and longed for my joy and Crown you see this will be for verse 1 what is Paul's crown you say Paul's with a lot of crowns he was a good worker what does that mean when his former sworn he's talking to Philippians he says my brethren my dearly beloved by long for my joy my crown what is the work that you do that will last when you get to this judgment seat it's going to be the work that you invested in each other and then people seeing soul saves and saints edified so it's the very souls that are saved from destruction the people that are built up in the body so that here it will be may manifest thank God then I get glorified all the vanity and weaknesses of myself get burnt up what remains is Christ in me right and Paul says I labor so that Christ would be manifest in you now so when you get there yes that stuff is burnt up right so you can have Christ in you now and know what this is like that's what he's saying first that's lunch go to verse 19 he says the same thing what is his joy in crown what is our hope or joy or crown of rejoicing are not even ye in the presence of our Lord Jesus Christ that is coming these aren't literal gold crowns are gonna put in your head or something something gold brooch you're gonna wear this is like the people that you've invested your ministers that is the work that guy he's judging isn't it he's judging not you know how well you you put putt the golf ball into Green or you know whether or not you've clothed the nakedness sort of thing it's whether or not the gospel of the grace of God which you were entrusted to ambassador was communicated was received was working in that whether you encouraged exhorted comfort and invited helped the body of Christ establish itself on God's grace that's the work that God is doing today it's the only work he cares about today that's the work will be judged at that judgment and you're a minister of that all of us are individually and so I said it earlier the judgment is you individually it's not you on behalf of me or being on behalf of you it's you right and so the encouragement the comfort all those blessings that you provide through your service to the Lord in the body of Christ as well we may manifest there you understand that now the verse says that we receive the things done in his body and this has a two-fold truth I believe I read that and some people say well this is the things done in your body right but remember we're in this mortal corruptible body I mean it's not gonna be a good day if that's all that that is looking at the deeds of our of our flesh but I don't think it's all it is I think this is really concerning the mystery which is what Paul's teaching this great mystery which we've covered before which is you in the body of Christ the things done in Christ's body which again kind of Orient's what the judgments all about it's you and him and what you did with the access of the riches that you had in him and what you did with the blessings that he provided you freely in Christ that you can be his ambassador now and so you can see the damage that's happening in ministries and churches that do not preach how to use or how to access or that you have these unsearchable riches of Christ core to the mystery Christians not knowing they have access to them not knowing how to use them and therefore the judgment seat what have they done that will last you see the problem here you see well least they're saved well I hope they're saving yeah praise God that they are but man that we want something great they're right I want it for you that's the idea and so this mystery that your your body is a member of Christ's body which flipped the coin around your body is his members on the earth right so that's why there's a judgment there is that the mystery is that you're in him and he is in you right so you and him gives you access to heaven him and you gives him access to the earth now the judgment is what did I do I mean you did what did what did we do down here you know this is this judgment how did you use Christ didn't you know you know how did you walk that way was it by faith or by ignoring it didn't think he was actually living in you hmm that's harden it wake up and forget that he's actually living in you or you doubt that he's living in you and he's not living a meze learning that guy well the truth is he's living in you the Spirit dwells in you how did you live and walk with no net knowledge information with that power right anyway that's what's talking about there in his body according to he has done the principle there's that works do matter works matter people who believe the gospel the grace of God they say well you're sound like a legalist here it's not legalism to teach that righteousness is right it's only legalism to put you under a law that requires you to do right or else you lose your blessings or positions and status with God and that's not what I'm doing right works matter the idea is that your life now matters not by works is the message we preach for your salvation it's not the strategy for ministry it's a very poor ministry strategy how do you do ministry not by works I don't do anything yeah it's not my works like I say it's not my work though I administer you know that's ridiculous nothing will ever get done for the Lord you know we'll cover later in the chapter Paul says if the love of Christ that constrains us to live our lives for him because he gave his life for us that's the great mystery again the exchange there so yes works matter the things you have done yes the things you have done with Christ and you right whether it be good or bad which is always the standard even back in Ecclesiastes a final version Ecclesiastes Solomon said that after knowing the whole world was vanity all that mattered was that there'll be a judgment of good and bad right and wrong and so we better live for that that's what Solomon thought this was yes he's 12 14 Romans 2 posted the same thing with a secret some men will be judged according to his gospel the judgment principle is always been the same good or bad okay it's not a righteous judgment to say oh I know you I'll give you everything you own get everything in Christ because you're in his body you say that's the mystery part it's not this respecter of persons that people try to make it but meanwhile at this judgement seat your sins are forgiven don't think you're taking your sins there your sins are taking care of by the cross right your sins are forgiven your salvation is complete don't think you're going here as a question of whether or not you're going to be saved or not your salvation is complete now don't we believe that but when Christians don't know that first of all you wonder how they know the gospel was secondly Christians who don't teach your salvation is complete now what are they fearful of getting here or here or wherever one of these judgments and learning that I didn't do enough to get in right put that aside the truth is if you trust Christ finished work you are saved a complete right now you don't go here to determine your salvation you're not gonna stand for the Lord and judge and determine your salvation if you trust this judgment right here right trust that one and your salvation judgment is over trust that one in the judgment of your sins is done right that's the glory of the gospel this judgment is not for your salvation or your sins it's for something called your service which is different okay if your service is the judgment your reasonable service Romans 12 verse 1 he mentions this Romans 12 verse 1 I beseech you brethren by the mercies of God that you present your bodies a living sacrifice holy acceptable unto God which is your reasonable service right now again this works here's not talking about you laying your life down for someone it's Christ in you this is you in Christ your reasonable service be not conformed to this world but be transformed by the renewing of your mind that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God you see that the will of God being acceptable and perfect what if you're not transformed in your mind are you still saved yep what if you Romans 12 verse 2 don't prove what is good an acceptable you're still saved yep we haven't proved what is acceptable which means what about your service since you've been saved it's unacceptable right so Sanford Lord in judgment he's going let's look at this service here what you do and you're going nothing well that's unacceptable there's the nothing that resulted from your life what won't you be ashamed what the Lord Savior who died for you and you will see him in his face and you're going I did nothing right on purpose that's what Paul says when he says study to show thyself approved unto God a workman that needeth not to be ashamed you say war say there's no shame anymore is there there may be if you're saved and you don't serve the Lord I'm not saying that in order to stay saved you have to do work sort of be saved you have to do works that's what he's saying if you do put your trust in Christ and you I've been given a position of righteousness in heaven and you don't live as if you love that what isn't that shameful people saying that I'll take grace and live however I want and that's spitting in God's eye you know see this is this idea it's shameful so it's your responsible work if he's just to 8/9 as you're saved by grace through faith not of works lest any man should boast Ephesians 2:10 says you're his workmanship that you should do good works you should write because you're his workmanship he's made you to do it now that you're saved by grace good and acceptable I'd list about five or six verses there to talk about your good and acceptable work Romans 12:2 is one of them once fourteen eighths another way talks about the kingdom that you're a part of Romans 14 18 he that is in these things serveth Christ is acceptable to God and approved of men this for five places of all talks about you being acceptable to God now it's not that you're not accepted in the beloved he accepts you in Christ but your service being acceptable is the issue here it's what you do between now and then so you can cover those verses on your own I want to cover here before the the tonight gets over the criteria of this judgment I've been talking about a little bit but I want to detail very specifically okay what is this the basis or the standard of this judgment for friends three in second audience five and first against three verse 13 it says every man's work shall be made manifest for the day shall declare it because it shall be revealed by fire in the fire shall try I every man's work of what sort it is that's the judgments gonna happen to you to me what's the criteria number one faith you won't even be at this judgment you don't have faith you always why you're standing there is because you walk by faith right faith is a requirement for this judgment you won't even be there like I said if you didn't have it so this judgment sort of believers only they saw in first one is three this is a judgment for those that are God's building that are a part of God's body okay he was eleven six says without faith is impossible to please God and first curviness three even though the Corinthians were carnal he calls them babes right babes in Christ don't forget that people say well you can't be a carnal courage can't be a baby in Christ well apparently it's possible look at the Corinthians not saying it's good no said it's acceptable when I'm saying it's honorable I'm saying it's possible because you're saved by grace and you can be a baby Christian but he's not denying if they're saved they're being carnal their service is unacceptable right meanwhile faith this is a criteria number two the criteria is the blueprint or on what how do you build how do you do your service how do you do it okay now first when it's three down in verse 10 is where we find this where it says Paul says he Labor's to for this building here according to the grace of God which is given unto me as a wise masterbuilder I have laid the foundation and another bills thereon but every man take heed how he builds their upon you see what happens is you totally ignore Paul's masterbuilder ship and do not build as he was instructed to instruct you to build then all of your work would be in vain if you're trying to establish Matthew 25 as ministry's call themselves right and try to do that work not establishing yourself on the grace of God that was given to Paul as a wise masterbuilder right then your Christian service could be all in vain on this day if you're saved if you have faith you're there it could be all in vain just all go with smoke you be the largest ministry in America largest one in the world and you're trying to get people to clothe the naked and feed the hungry because you see that if they do that they'll get in the kingdom right we fed this many people in clothes that many people and the people that have done this work we think are going to have a good day on the judgment you get up he's going how did you serve me in the body of Christ when did you preach my grace when did you preach Christ in you and meet you in Christ you're going what we don't know what the history is you see the service there it's unacceptable I gave you a ministry reconciliation made you an ambassador gave you this information and you didn't order was and - weren't doing anything to accomplish anything regarding that is it this is the problem see what they're doing a lot of good yeah it's good for people who may or may not even be saved now you say what if in feeding the hungry and clothing the naked you gave them the gospel like the real gospel not just trust God or something but trust his finished work on the cross and they were saved well glory to God that's an acceptable work right it's not that you gave him a piece of bread is that they trusted Christ who he's gonna see on that day that person that were saved right who's my crown rejoicing that guy you know this you built the body that guy is gonna be there for eternity so praise God that's a word but here's the unfortunate thing the sad thing as many ministries who are concerning themselves with these works for salvation that they think with the wrong judgments typically get the gospel wrong it's a sad truth I'm not condemning all good works Christians to do those good things and there's bad things but the judgment here will based on the gospel the grace of God the sort of work that builds people up in the body of Christ and if you're not saying about preaching the right gospel but people can't be saved or you think that people can be saved just by doing good works other people unless you think that that that doesn't happen it read up the statement of statements of faith listen to the ministers themselves you join these missionary organizations and they'll tell you that we're just going to be helping them in their physical needs do not communicate to them Bible truths that divides people don't talk about it what they say there's anything wrong with helping people in need there's nothing wrong at all right it's just that type of work is always gonna need to be done and that's not the work that's a judge at this judgment see okay we can have take the poverty rate down to zero clothes every naked person and have the hunger rate go down to zero and everyone die and go to hell and when you the body of Christ and for the Lord he's going how do i body get built you're going well we fed a lot of hungry people he's going there all inhale you see the problem with this is it we have to we have to have eyes to understand the most valuable thing and while we're helping people on the earth where we can with the riches that we've been blessed with if we have them were communicating God's truth which by the way does not cost any money at all right we're helping encourage and strengthen people in the body of Christ which doesn't cost any money at all right so this is the idea the blueprint is Paul's message the mystery of Christ the gospel the grace of God but the thing that really meant it's mentioned here first goodness three is this third criteria of the judgment faith the blueprint by which you're building which is Paul's gospel this this information of what Christ is doing today but thirdly it's the quality of the work this tends to be a fear of people they'll say I want to get there and how many people have I been saved or how much work have I done this is the question you asked about how much have I done that's not the question you should be asking now in a sense that I want to encourage zeal to do more work than yes be zealous to never stop doing serving service for the Lord okay do more in that sense be be excited to love to want to do that have love of Christ constrains you to keep continually doing it but the question on this Judgment Day is not how much it's not like okay here's Joe you don't here's Susy and you know how much did you do or Joey it'll line Susie's it very little right that's not the standard of the judge but the standard is the quality of the work okay the first three first thirteen says is the sort of work okay the sort of work is not quantity of work do you understand this to have a large house built poorly is worse than having a small house built well I mean who's told that principle before house tilting the sand house built in the rock band like Jesus articulated this didn't he like better do something well then do a lot of something not well right not good it's not the quantity it's the quality of the work done now this goes back to the blueprint right the quality of the work is determined by how you're doing the work will quip each other if with the knowledge the true so we try to communicate knowledge the truth to other people we do it in such a quality way that they actually learn truth not in a poor slipshod way and in compromising and in ignoring you know to challenge them to believe the true gospel we're just accepting their unbelief when calling it belief and this is poor workmanship I talked to the other day and and I'm pretty sure they're saying in fact I'm gonna count him assay because I said do you know God they said yep I said yep there you go you're saved yeah that's poor workmanship you don't know anything right or trying to encourage people in the body by not even being around them at all that's poor workmanship is it the quality of workmanship that matters which is why it needs to work in you first right that way you can actually the work you do can be quality work each work that you do is tried by fire to see what sort it is and in the verses in four hands three lists three of each good and bad the gold silver and precious stones and the wood hay and stubble and we might cover this in a future lesson of sorts but this is how I break it down what this means gold silver and precious stones and sometimes people get really detailed about this and I don't intend to try to speak where the Bible doesn't or intend to to misguide you in such a way but here's what I see about God's what God's concerned with what God consistently in the scripture says is vain work okay God honors faithfulness God wants faithful people apparently in the Bible to think consistently where when God entrusts someone with something and though they're entrusted with it they quit that's less desirable and someone who's entrusted with it even though they may not be able to work as much as another they're faithful with it God seems to honor that more faithfulness well secondly to to say he says you know find faithful men who shall be able to teach others also faithfulness apparently so we talk about gold the gold has historically been a very faithful thing monetarily speaking it maintains a standard that's what gold does or the gold standard maintains faithful okay person with more in verse three says teach no other doctrine silver is something which is constantly needing to be purified okay it's very rare actually defines real honor percent pure silver but silver something that's constantly being tarnished and what he says that is it silver that you've done the work here I believe it has may have something to do it at the very least is something God respects which is purity of doctrine he wants you to have the knowledge of the truth not mixed with error your right not slovenly in this regard free from any impurities verse 23 verse 9 says to hold the consciousness in a pure conscience hold the mystery of the faith in a pure conscience that integrity sincerity right not doing it just for the show but I'm it's real to me that's pure that's integrity and apparently I've got consistently is honoring this in the scripture that would make a good workman someone is faithful someone who's sincere pure precious stones are jewels that are or beautiful but also given to honor people and this I could make beautiful and honorable works precious stones by the way are formed surrounded by pressure right and this is where the most beautiful inaudible works occur often in life is when pressure is mounting against you how do you respond to the pressure right and so you know that this work you've done so you say what work have I done well you've suffered a lot in your life made faithful to doctrine pure to the doctor communicating it and you as a shining jewel glorify God's grace amidst the suffering that's a good work folks that's good that's God working in you and you ministering that out that's good that may not not only strengthen you it strengthened other people which wise says the greatest mission we can have is during those times of suffering and so if you doing that through suffering remain faithful the doctrine the pure doctrine and you coming out praising God's grace and I'm in my weakness he is strong right and doing that other people get inspired and strengthened by this and put their trust in Christ their trust in God's grace and that a good work it's on that day what's the judgment your life strengthen that person is strength in that person because how you responded by faith and what I did with you I mean that's amazing that's the judgment that's the gold-tone preciousness you don't actually need real gold or silver precious stones with that for the work they that will last that you you built and established the body of Christ right what's the work that won't last it tends to be all the things that people think sparkle down here but don't that's those things that the wood hay and stubble is what Paul calls them the wood of the things that cause a strife in the scripture listen some verses there we'll cover them in the future lesson probably wood in the Bible is constantly things that it describes things that are easy to light on fire okay it's hard to light gold and silver and precious stones on fires really hard wood however have a match there you go yeah fire you see what's this to do with anything well fire in the Bible's like strife right so it's like you know if there's strife in your ministry it's easily set afire this is the type of work you're doing if your work it's easy just to start a fire that it's probably not something that's honorable or something faithful or pure there's some problem here you get this wood hay which is dead grass which in the Bible God's always referring to the works of man remember the Word of God last forever and man he's like grass right what's that meaningless vanity the things that people think are their glory look at this big thing we built look at how many people we have look at this big crowd look at the nice list of clothes that we wear the things that men glory in God's going it's meaningless it's grass you see you see the difference we have a huge ministry lots of people lots of money and God's going yeah but how faithful are you to my doctrine purely without compromising for the same getting more people and more money and how often did you have to use that in pressure to help people through their suffering assess possession of grace oh no we preached your prosperity how God wants to prosper you everything that you do and you know and if you're suffering that's not God's will at all well you see how that teaching would actually divert people from being precious stones you know saying that actually discourages the golden some of the faithfulness in the purity it actually encourages compromise for the sake of greater numbers that great and God - and that's just grass that's good that's not what I value you see the problem here the doctrine affects this ministry is in the stubble in the scripture which refers to things that make your work vain how you thought you were collecting a bunch of stuff and suddenly you figure out it's not the actual crop it's just the stubble you know in the if you're a farmer you understand that you don't you don't understand that but you got the corn stock right and it's just one corn here anymore on the corn stocks but there's a lot of that corn stock that is not what you need that's like the stubble that's like that idea so you need a bunch of work gathering all this work and really the most valuable part is a little bit here the stubble is this vein work it's vanity so avoid the wood hay and stubble the strife profanity and vanity as Paul says Timothy - and do the valuable work so this requires you to be able to discern that to know the doctrine to be saved and be able to do that work right what are the bad rewards for judgment you say well that's all the good stuff what's the bad stuff if you get gold silver precious stones you're faithful you you stay true and pure to the doctrine with integrity and you do things that are honorable glorifying to God then then that's helpful that's good what's the bad consequence of this judgment it's never going to be your eternal damnation it's never going to be wrath for your sins but there will be bad rewards for that judgment the word reward isn't only a positive word it means what you get what you deserve poor the thing that was bad as well and what do you get get according to the bad work the poor work and first greatness 3 verse 15 it says if any man's work shall be burned he shall suffer loss see that loss what's the loss you'll face visions five talks about redeeming the time because the days are evil right you're lost and maybe some of you can sympathize others cannot of when you've wasted time in your life maybe you've spent all day cleaning the house and then suddenly you know nests everywhere or you know you wasted time that's the loss that will happen at the judgment seat here when you've lived your life what you thought was doing right but you weren't doing right according to God's blueprint and according to God's standard in this dispensation and you totally wasted your time working after wasted see who wants that nobody wants that this is why we Minister how we administer try to create faithful workmen and those who have integrity to stand for God's Word right so that they will not have wasted their time the time would have been redeemed right to do Lord the Lord's service so loss is a consequence their shame is a consequence that we've already covered that before we stand for the Lord and having done not the work that he would wanted you to do but rather trying to do your own work and calling it God's or you'll face shame facing the God who didn't tell you to do what you thought you were doing you know shame will be there blame Paul talks about you being presented blameless before the Lord Jesus Christ and to be blamed there you had opportunities and you didn't take them what do you call that on their shame there's also blame it's like what what happened you know and dishonor I mean it's not an honorable things the opposite of the honorable works from the precious stones is and this is the stubble in the vain justice dishonor okay this is why doctrine matters so much to understand what God's will is and how you'd want us to live and work and walk because it concerns this judgment see right here it concerns the work that we can do now can still do now the quality of work that will last that we can find joy in right we can rejoice in one another encouraging one another strengthening one another edifying one another seeing others souls saved this is a work you can rejoice in when you come to an understanding of the gospel the grace of God and help others do the F that's what you rejoice in on that day you understand it's no longer anything that the world will think that you rejoice in it it's that that matters it's the encouragement you give one another the comfort the strength to trust in the Lord in His grace that it's sufficient right because they'll be up that day and saying I trusted God His grace and I'm standing here having trusted in His grace and I you see that's the that's the joy that's the rejoicing so Paul says we don't want to be blood we want to be blameless on that day right unashamed workman getting reward that's what Paul says so for second readiness v let's wrap it up here in verse Allah Paul says knowing therefore the terror of the Lord the tears well just describe that he's a righteous judge folks and will not respect persons even if you're saved you won't respect your person he's gonna judge righteously he's not wishy-washy and what's right and wrong so you're a stand Foreman judgment and all these things we talk about the criteria is there this is why we need to to do the work to understand his will and to perform it to serve him righteously verse 10 our verse 11 rather knowing therefore the terror of the Lord we persuade men but we are made manifest unto God and I trust also made manifest in your own consciousness Paul says that we persuade men what we're trying to do here what we do with each other is persuading each other motivate each other to do right right to learn the doctrine to understand God's will to prioritize him over yourself we persuade men but we don't answer to men when men look at us and say what are you doing that you're not very big there's no profit in it it's up to us in God's Word to look for where the profit is at right there you say eternal glory that's the profit Paul says we persuade men but we're manifest to God God sees what we're doing how do we even know if someone's faithful or not how do we know if someone has integrity or not it's very hard to judge on the outside isn't it that's what they're doing to Poehler they're accusing his faithfulness his integrity his work being honorable or not he's going look I don't answer to you he's writing this epistle to persuade them that he is faithful and honorable and pure in his intentions right and yet he's not answerable to them he's Hannibal to God and his confidence is they don't give a report for me I give a report for me and God knows my heart you see the confidence he has if God sees me and I'm doing these things faithfully then I'm looking forward to that day right you guys can blame me and accuse me and think I'm doing at him you know bad intentions and I don't answer you but I'm trying to persuade you because that's what he's saying I trust were made manifest to your conscience whatever reason your mind thinks disproves what I'm saying listen to your conscience which to tell you that I suffer to get you the gospel and you're saved right isn't that glorious the right and so he's trying to make manifest to their conscience and so he says we're not trying to commend ourselves to you again but give you occasion to glory on our behalf that you may have somewhat to answer them which glory and appearance and not in heart there are people who glory in appearances there are so many times where people I think mistake conviction for arrogance this happens quite frequently it happens to me well aren't you arrogant and I'm like I I don't think so I'm gonna turn to be proud or anything because I'm not trying to be Eric just cuz I'm convicted about something that I believe it I'm confident in the truth does not mean I'm arrogant that's different he'll mistake this cuz they see on the outside I talk with conviction and I'm loud and I'm dogmatic and they say oh he's arrogant what you're judging my heart now because I'm speaking like it's a certainty is it that a testimony of the confidence I have in Christ it could be arrogance but it could not be how do you know see this is a good question he would mistake this all the time they mistake strong faith for pride when you go out and say why trust Jesus Christ right and I trust His grace alone is sufficient they hear you saying that you're proud you don't need a miracle well you know I'd really want one but it's not that it's just I have a strength of faith I believe God's words - mistake experience for stubbornness I will not go that way I've seen it happen before I've done it before it doesn't work I'm going this way I have experience of doing this well you're just stubborn no I've experienced your relationship patience patience experience don't mistake the two I'm not stubborn you correct me I will be corrected you show me what's right I want to do what's right but what I learn from God's Word what the truth is and what the experience should be that's where I'm going right to mistake rebuke and correction for divisiveness is very common right you can't talk about what they did wrong or what he did wrong you're just causing division don't mistake me here I'm not trying to divide people I'm trying to correct the errors for the sake that the whole church can have a better day here right but that isn't that a heart motivation I mean how are you supposed to judge this only God knows this right people mistake these things and thus they look at the appearance and they say his intentions are not pure his intentions are to divide he's proud he's angered for himself right and Paul's going you got it wrong guys I'm doing this for God right I'm persuading men but in the sight of God doing these things and so I tell you these things not so that I can prove myself to you is what he says come in myself to you rather so that was someone asked what about Paul he seems pretty arrogant it's always about his gospel you can actually tell them well no he's just serving the God he loves God so much that he says Ellis to do it right he says if people look at me and they say he's beside himself he's mad which they said about Paul Festus said Paul you're mad much learning make you mad you're crazy they said it about Jesus too by the way Jesus Jesus's friends in Mark 3 they said Jesus you're mad you're the Son of God you're crazy right you're mad you've lost your mind and Paul says if that's what we appear to be we appear to be too strong or too certain or crazy or zealous or too offensive to your traditions and sensibilities then then just tell people that were like that because we're trying to serve God the God of all glory and that matters but if we appear to be reasonable and wise with fine speech you know and gentle then no we're doing that for you because we're trying to persuade you of the truth right what's the point you someone appearances right it doesn't matter how I appears what do you say but if it appear this way or that way know that I'm doing with the right intentions I'm doing it to God I'm doing it for you right that's what he's saying so this is where we find ourselves in Paul's epistle here trying to show people the importance the judgment seat and how Paul is confident in that day that he's doing a righteous work and he comments any questions about the subject tonight yes sir right let's let's pray God we thank you for the grace you've given us the opportunity of giving us and I pray that we'd be motivated to serve you each day to strengthen our own knowledge of the truth to help encourage the strengthen one another in the body so that we would rejoice in the right thing find our glory in you and be able to bear the fruits of the spirit and appreciate those so we realize that what is most important or what we do now is not what the world glories in what you do we thank you for understanding of the judgment seat tonight and for each member here okay
