oh the peers of anticipation the day has arrived for the number one Florida Gators and the number two Florida State Seminoles to get it all the day to play the game only the 31st time number one is bet number two in college football history it's furrier and Belden they haven't played that many times but it's already seems like a long time and Danny Wuerffel is the main target of the day that magnificently confident quarterback for the Florida Gators and the primary hunters will be defensive ins for Florida State Peter Boulware and Reynard Wilson each with 34 career quarterback sack hello again everybody and welcome to the day in the state of Florida for sure and a very big day in college football if the Florida Gators win they will carry their number one national ranking into the sec championship game against alabama next Saturday night you'll see it here on ABC Sports it'll be played in Atlanta if the Florida State Seminoles win they will rise to number one and they will start packing for the Nokia Sugar Bowl game January 2nd in New Orleans that would be the Alliance championship game well then what determines the outcome here today in Tallahassee a lot of factors to be sure including these cited by the two coaches let's try not to give them a cheap one try to take care of the ball play well on the special teams our rush is gonna have to be superior to what they have faced I don't think we can beat them sometimes these type of games don't quite live up to the height we think this one will this is a game for the constituency an Appaloosa aboard chief Osceola a symbol of this part of the state of and this region of the we love past report these hallowed ground and now we turn to our analyst Bob Griese for his thoughts about the game today he comes with 99 want to do shut down the run so if you like explosive exciting big play offenses with skilled wide receivers and skilled defensive backs that's what you're going to get here the ace in the hole for Florida State has Warrick Dunn I don't think he's going to be a factor running the ball but coming out of the backfield receiving he might play a big part before this day is done however and it starts to play the quarterback is going to have to play a major role if you don't run the ball it gets back to the quarterback to make the big plays whoever makes the most big plays were full started 35 games in my opinion the number one quarterback in college football he's he'll be there dan Busby on the other side play well for Florida State to have a chance to win that's the key for the game today now for the men who do some of the catching and comments on them let's join me in Swat on the field the team is supposed to be a war for this the airborne passing attack there will be a primary factor in it and the University for that has the best tandem the wide receivers in this conference you look at the bill Anthony and I kill you the numbers they put together their challenge today take the short pass because of the pass rush and make it a big play on the floor the same side there are three guys who have come up with numbers not quite as good as Florida eg green Andre superheroing time I will tell you worked out enough to fix and make a picnic eat alright the Florida Gators will have the football first Florida State won the toss deferred to accept the kickoff in the second half but Steve Spurrier pretty well made it known that he wanted the ball if he could get it on the first possession today because that's how he believes in that offense and he wants to there's some advantage in getting that first score on the scoreboard there is no question about it couldn't be a better day and we're just about set to go Mack gentry is the head of an all-acc officiating team Scott Bentley will kick it off for the red shirt at home team Elijah Williams and Jacques green and I cured our deep people its hazard 19 the people [Music] see because of the way first down the Florida Gators Danny Wuerffel is most one of the most efficient quarterbacks in the country and as you look at his numbers on the year I should tell you in his career he's thrown 105 touchdown passes number 19 for the chiles starting lineup backs and receivers I figured as a hundred and twenty career catches the Florida receivers do something with the ball after they catch it that is emphasized every day they practice oh here we go we'll open up back here [Applause] - at the top a little quick snap pop to the top of the screen and you've got a seven-yard pickup by Reidel Anthony the junior from South Bay Florida number 15 you'll see him a lot the offensive frock for Florida very young tackled number 70 Cooper Carlyle the freshman and number 79 mo Collins as a sophomore and they have to deal with those two defensive ends the Florida State they are it'll be second down and free from the 27 [Applause] authority Darryl Busch among the tacklers Busch playing in the middle of that Florida State defense as the middle linebacker is the captain of that bunch I mean he guides the whole crowd Kevin Smith a strong safety has played very well he has three defensive touchdown in the secondary get that very off it is now [Music] just about a yard or a whistle back to throwing has a man open Anthony first down 41 yard line pops in the back card by seven Smith but he held the ball so were full has hit his first three passes totals 38 yard [Applause] at the 25-yard Florida State [Applause] tailors the beetman Werfel circles throws for the corner and it'll be the man for whom the pass was intended never got down rather lengthy then I figured were the two wides and halyard never good where the ball was thrown he cut it off before the ball was on its way and it was an easy interception for chemin Smith well you caught it correctly Keith it gets flushed out of the pocket the receiver to the left side outside of the screen stop this pattern and from the look that Spurrier was talking with they have ball was film deep but it was intercepted and here comes Florida State now first down at their own 20-yard line Warrick Dunn obviously is the man deep in the I formation with that buzz to the quarterback and Dunn has the ball this is the fellow that the Florida Gators have to take out of the ballgame if they can he picks up three yards on that carry turnovers are such a key game in this game go back to the interception watch as the receiver is going to be jammed right here by capers sometimes there's an option route Keith you have the option to run the corner or to break it off to the sideline the quarterback and the wide receiver have to read the coverage the same way Wuerffel threw it dip deep receiver broken sharp seven [Applause] give it this done he's working in the packet in Capri [Applause] [Music] first down at the 48-yard line I'm talking to pop suits the defensive coordinator for the Gators number one take Warrick Dunn out of the game stuff is running from behind the offense Pooh Bear Williams 22 Jones number 78 doing a nice job and when you get him to secondary one-on-one with Warrick Dunn he is going to beat you Bob Stoops the defensive coordinator came in from Kansas State has done a nice job with his defense for the Gators so done two plays one big first down no he's got it again and this time the Gators getting behind that's a good defensive play by Florida and they take him down back at the 46 yard line only 15 touchdowns versus the 12 interceptions he's 10 and oh however is the starter Warwick done number 28 he's the generator of the FSU defense and he is now over a thousand yards for the season he's done it three successive years that's the Chili's starting lineup backs and receivers for the Florida State Senate from the 46 it is now second down and 12 and the first pass from Busby or Warrick Dunn he's involved literally in every play in some sentence you gotta know where he is the offensive front Tod forum had to move over to a guard position from the tackle when Chad Bates went down hurt ray Thomas moved up to his offensive tackle starting position the defensive front number 44 James Bates is the anchor of that Gator defense very aggressive people [Applause] and so on third down and 12 now he had reads path and the Gators are right up there to pump here comes pressure [Applause] that's a 39-yard line of Florida by eg greens and I have very good throw well the interception in the end zone helped Florida State gain some confidence now a big confidence booster right here for Thad Busby a square in by Green pretty good coverage baits on a little blitz of delayed blitz he saw his man was blocking so he goes in and rushes he gets picked up very nicely there by Warrick Dunn big drove for a Busby first completion much action he had a tremendous first half they got him inside one who take care of the calf line being told by the trainer and about Bobby Bowden it was just the fact that he was crapping up he'll be in for the second half and so will she see him or his backup pressing if they came to give him a little round pink Oh we'll see you you think they might have had it I'll have to repaint the walls in the Florida locker room you think Steve was upset I would say yet huh the dominant themes in the first half for me was Warrick Dunn the Florida State defense and Wuerffel worthless film about 23 times
