if he's two and one in four starts with the expose the ER a spotless at 169 and he is one tough customer but bear in mind one thing the Cubs are 15 and six against left-handed starters this year so Mike Bielecki will have his work cut out for him and he's going to the mound for the Cubs he's throwing the ball exceptionally well and if he can control the low outside corner to the right and left-hand hitters he's going to be in good shape this is a tough part to hit the ball out especially when you keep the ball away from the hitter but like he's been hot the Cubs looking to stay in first place and win this series two out of three it's going to be exciting it was a brilliant game yesterday so stay tuned for baseball I did it among other great play next offense Jerome Walton drove in the winning run last night and then there is pitching in the clutch and Mitch Williams is going to do it for you right here Cubs win that was a story last night what will the story be today stay with us for all the excitement coming up in a moment [Applause] baseball is brought you in part by Budweiser beechwood aged for that clean crisp take this bus for you your Chicagoland Northwest United Airlines rededicated to giving you the service you deserve come fly the friendly skies and ISA building cars for people who want more than just a means of getting from here to there Lisa don't why the human race Carrie Jerry from Olympic Stadium a Montreal where they're still talking about the thrilling ball game last night but that was last night today's another day this a third final and rubber game of the series and they have their celebrated pitcher going mark Langston Mike Bielecki pitching for the Chicago Cubs you know looking back to the ball game last night I wonder if we ever had an exhibition which included the three ingredients that we were just talking about to having a winning ballclub the defense not only did Dawson make a great catch next was Jerome Walton made a sensational catch and then after that they moved around the left field and glide Smith race to the left center to rob Davy Martinez and at least a double or triple and then there was a pitching of Sutcliffe we've seen him many times when he's had better stuff but never when he pits a gutti ur a more courageous ballgame and kept his team in there all the way for the victory BZ just a little bit of help in the later stages so what would we have today let's hope we have those things same three ingredients going and notably and primarily the great pitching from Mike Bielecki stay with us now we'll have the starting lineups in a moment hello again everybody with Steve stone and Dwayne dead Harry Caray - looking stadium em up y'all as the Expos take the field and here are the lineup for the cub grown Walton and center Dwight sniffing left Ryne Sandberg and second Andre Dawson and right Damon Berryhill - catcher Lloyd McClendon blamed birth that flawed birth Domingo rumbles the shortstop and thankfully huge one 5 in loss - will be the pitcher for the expo leaning hawk Otis Nixon in Center Tom Foley at second Andres Galarraga at first Tim Raines and left Hubie Brooks his life Tim Wallach at third Marty TV the catcher spike Owen the shortstop and the celebrated 48 year old left-hander mark Langston on the mound he's one two and he's lost one for the explode after being four and five for Seattle there are the umpires Bilhah behind the plate bruce fremming in first Terry Tator second and David de beauté after a big crowd on hand and we're ready to play baseball and may it be as exciting a game as was last night and with the same ultimate result Cubs are 15 and sixes here again left-handed starters you look at the defense and how they line up the high mark Langston one notable change Otis Nixon playing center field today Dave Martinez generally starts against right-hand pitchers but Rogers probably has a hunch on Nixon who was a great base runner and perhaps they think today in the answers to the long ball against the Leki doesn't give up a lot of home run they're going to try to be an aggressive base stealing damn so lengthen on for the fifth time this year [Music] mark Langston 6-2 195 pounds a very fine picture this our first look at him out of the spring training and the Cubs are familiar with him because they saw him throw a lot and they didn't score too many runs off Minh in years with the Seattle Mariners he's got a fastball curve slider and change his best pitch the overhand curve but he does have a very lively fastball here's Jerome walk first pitch a curve inside walk drove in the decisive run last night two out of nine of the series hitting 274 the year two homers 11 RBIs Langston line drive we won't mention Oh Hitler today what starts the game off with a line single the right in our remembrance spring training they were talking and walk would hit 240 and 250 he can play regularly with the cub he's only over 270 right now Neary the on-base percentage has been steady since he's come up here when you have a leadoff man getting on base like Jerome Walton was on base percentage is up over 340 you have to consider yourself blessed here now is dried shrimp you tried to bunt bunted foul it's a a surprise Lessard but the tribute to the showing of Dwight Smith that he then started against a left-hander like Langston probably the toughest left-hander in baseball on one the count I am inside white Smith is four out of nine into Syria not a bad idea to lay down a bunt to the right side you move along the base runner you trying to get on top of length and early he fans 16 men in May of 88 against Toronto one ball one strike very fluid overhand emotion good throw I would imagine he's gonna be tough to steal on to one ball one strike maybe he's got a pretty good arm behind the play junga throw licen we'll have to be careful because bruce fremming probably calls the bonk as close as anybody in the National League and you can bet he'll be taking a look at that leg and if he swings it over the rubber he'll have to go home there's a drive high pop fly in the stands on a play one ball two strikes Dwight Smith was trying to hit that vault of the opposite field it's a good thing to try against a tough left-hander when you're a left-handed batter not only was Langston a great pitcher in high school but he also won all-state honors in soccer so he's an all-around athlete one ball two strikes there's a driveway back in the right field in the wall it is caught by you pee bro holy cow one more biscuit for breakfast and I would have gone over the wall you're wondering if Dwight Smith can hit left-handed pitchers this is the toughest left-hander around and Dwight Smith almost took him out of the ballpark you be brooked with no room to spare makes the catch and you can't have a little assisting wind here Remy Olympic dome 70 degrees with no wind blowing your now is sander one on one out [Applause] he's safe speaking of deep end he saved the game of the great stop of what looked like a single asunder that would have tied the game of wanted for my there we go there's a big save the stolen base Jerome Walton guesses right the cops are sold to maids is yesterday get on the board early in the stolen base department stolen base number seven for Walton numbers 73 for the ball club some fish to handle for Marty Peavy doesn't make a particularly good throw but the ball is down and Walton is in easily watch it again and the Cubs will be trying to take advantage of Peavy today here's Sandberg one ball no strikes curveball outside ball two Andre Johnson coming up next Andre stroke to double in the single last last night two balls no strikes there's a pickoff play save both play the second baseman Tom Foley is charging in there good pickoff play this is daylight no signal given somebody just goes to the bank in this case Tom Foley and Walton just in under the tag the call by Terry Tator and that was close two vaults don't strikes one on Walt a good lead again look out there he goes darn SAP egg save he steals third also wall three two Sandberg brave balls no strikes one out and the Cubs have picked something up against mark Langston he's got a long slow delivery coming straight over the top and Walton got an extra step at second base here you see the good break Langston takes time to deliver the ball and he's got to realize in the National League they'll run him out of the ballpark if he continues with that motion hey look at TV was a little slow getting rid of the ball also now the pitch ball four and runners on first and third one out and here is Andre Dawson two out of eight both hits last night in the series hitting 281 for the year the empty a plane back for the double play Johnson has a lifetime 348 batting average with six homers and 27 RBIs against his former teammates and he's the number one hot hitter against the Expo and feel that the bet inside of pi you come fans and blood fans from Chicago Cathy and B Jetson the Palatine and Jo Ann and John pepitas for not room you want to stay out of the DoublePlay it might be able to run with Sandberg there's a long drive big feather field way back it might be out of here there's a three-run homer Andre Johnson holy cow and true value happily donates three hundred dollars becomes here in the fight against cancer look at that dug up leave Domingo look at Mark Grace fitzwilliam three to nothing in favor to come whoa did he cross that ball over the centerfield wall directly centerfield look as if Langston throwing a lot of high fast balls and he's paying for it the sixth home run by Andre Johnson RBIs 21 22 and 23 and Langston hasn't had a chance to settle down in the Cubs on top boys you think we miss Dawson there's a picture of it outside he's just starting now last time you can see him looking like himself and tonight more like himself here's the pitch shoes Berryhill oh and foo that's absurd over on/off Langston to join the Expo that's an only 32 innings free free home ride he's stuck him out on a curveball throughout let's take a look at Andre Dawson once again and the flow that puts the Cubs on top three to nothing a high fastball Andre doesn't miss many of these in the Chicago Tribune round tripper replay shows a home run went around 420 feet to straightaway center field his line McClendon pitch is high and inside two hits and a walk Dawson's three run homer Don Zimmer wasn't the same Lord three run home as he just saw one or the cub and this is the guy who streamed on Homer the first game he played for the cub in a regular season turn the club around that's right after Dodson had to leave the playing ranks with an injury curve in there of beauty one ball two strikes McClendon has seen mark Langston he had a three-run homer against lengthen in a bee game this spring one ball two strikes foul ball foul outside third base three does nothing in favor the cup rubber game of the Sri on a cup hands on hand here one ball two strikes I and inside bill hemmer warmly of not Riverside Illinois now living in Barre Vermont there was a group of party rooting for the go low and outside ball three three balls two strikes two out three run home Lloyd McClendon fouls it off again other Chicago fans Kevin and Tim kaliesha from Hammond Indiana are here we saw last night Rick Sutcliffe having some trouble in the first inning and many times good pitchers will struggle in the first inning before getting their rhythm the Cubs did not allow Langston to get his rhythm before they got on the board here's ball four it's like a manís walk and here is Vance law who contributed contributed a final blow last night throughout double the right to tied up the ball game at 2-2 before Jerome walk later on scored the winning run with a single London is stolen four bases is here and he'll take off if you don't watch him carefully now the pitch by Lang there we go there's a throw too late I don't know whether it's stealing on Langston or whether the running of P BB BB seems to wind up before throw well there's no doubt that Peavy is taking some time Harry but look at the break he gets and Langston with a long slow delivery it's impossible for Peavy on this play to throw anybody out so Langston has got to gear himself to the National League base runners or he's going to have some problem how to pitch a little bit high that's a fence stolen base for Lloyd McClendon and here comes Larry Bernhard the pitching coach out I think he's going to talk to him about this airing because I don't know if any other team has been able to take advantage of it the Cardinals beat him in one game and then he turned around and shutout the Cardinal so he found something that was probably keeping Vince Coleman off base but the Cubs have shown this year that they're going to try to run more than any other year before it's 75 stolen bases for the Cubs they lead Montreal by 2 they've only stolen 73 and this is supposed to be a very aggressive Montreal team two balls no strike and in scoring position three runs already home on Andre Dawson six over the year this 21st 22nd and 23rd runs that is it two balls no strikes there's a drive into left field and it's caught by gibbering in foul territory that at many what three runs joy there were two hits one left we go on the bottom of the first comes out in front 3 to nothing Carrie Carrie back in the ballpark where the Cubs around and from 3 to nothing on our great Dawson home run with two on IRA's Otis Nixon to lead it off now it's up to Mike Bielecki the Hold'em here's a bit bass bottled it outside Vance law playing a very shallow so is laudanum McClendon this guy very fast strike all the counters even dubbed ill honk is he played up by Steve Northup am never Charleston and I watch it because there's a high ball out of play into the Lucky's one-in-three lifetime against Montreal he's participating in eight games against them his er a very high at 5:14 and last time out against the Mets he threw the ball very well and won the ballgame going six and a third innings giving up six hits and two earned run to put long and he struck him out all the sticks it goes down sleep one man out here is Tom Foley go for three last night leaving food funny for the year three homers and 17 RBIs last night the expose made itself on Rick Sutcliffe because Dave Martinez had a good night and the best way to keep a man was stolen 20 bases off base to do just what the lucky did throw the fastball by him and send him to the bench pitch the Polie a little bit low ball one well I happy Father's Day Father's everywhere one out there's a drive if a deep and right feeling Andre Dawson who knows this field very very well makes the catch holy hit the ball hard but right at Johnson throughout come Foley will be excused if he wonders where and radon for playing him last night second hitter the ball game he hit the ball in the gap in right-center field Johnson on the run made the catch tonight he hit the ball more toward the line and Dawson was right there again coming out here's Andres Galarraga hitting 248 four out of eight misery love it right off the Williams family from st. Johnsbury Vermont bullying for the Cubs here today he started this rate they appeal and bruce fremming says he went around straight to going through two out you can get inside on under scallerago but that's the danger zone in there if you miss just on the plate you stay away from them you should be okay and Mike Bielecki generally is able to control that low outside corner so this is 12th start of the year and is first against the Expo fastball outside Jim Donnan connor from a to Mattoon Illinois here with a daughter family pulling for the Cubs one-ball two-strike Hey struck Emma but lucky breeze through the first with food strike out at the end of one the Cubs lead three visit Harry Caray back in Montreal we go into the second Domingo Ramos one of the stars last night he was three for four scored the winning run on girl Walden this is the numbers my call now whoever built this the contractor had a clause in his contract there's a pitch one base hit in the right field and Rathalos is really amazing he's hitting 270 he's over 270 now was on line drive single or right what's amazing thing about Ramos is the other day in Wrigley Field he had the first triple of his career and yesterday he had the first game where he had two infield hits in the same game so he's not used to those flying feet and I'm only bad he scored the winning run from second base on a solid single of beating gambling on Tim Raines and making it with a headfirst slide in the home plate one of the few times the grains then put the ball right on the blade a little bit off to the side Lincoln can have to bunt this to first base he does follow one ball one strike I started a tell you about the through there the contractor has to prove that the roof works ten straight time or paid ten million dollars there's a buck only play will be the first place easy out but we have a man in scoring position here's Jerome wall in other words the people want to make sure the roof would work before they paid off the bill the building this isn't this don't stadium unless he can make the roof work that retractable roof work to the satisfaction of the people of Robbins Stadium we don't give it the cost of ten million dollars they do it at night Harry and he has to do a ten straight night they've done it five nights now so five more to go and if it doesn't work not only does he have to pay 210 million but he's got to put in another couple million to put in the air-conditioning in this dome and it cost a billion dollars already let me tell you dog don't feel too sorry about that contractor I bet you figured all IBM is priced that's why it cost a billion dollars the builders well they put it in perspective there's four domes currently being used and you could pay for them all for what it cost to build this one two balls no strikes one out a man in scoring position mark Langston the big slag ball Duval's with a strike Cubs have a man in scoring position one out Jerome Auckland started the ball game of the single right and then stole second and third high ball three let's pause for station identification you are watching Cubs baseball on WGN Chicago's very own Channel nine your Elmo count three balls one strike one out Ramos the runner at second a wide-open stand well what a stop I wall it'll be a hit though he's lucky got down in time and stopped that ball it was good luck had shot a base hit runners the first concern Wallach didn't expect Walton to pull the ball but he gets a low fastball and he drives it to third and if you wonder why they call it the hot corner this is why this is a rope right at Wallach he's got to move quickly to his right he saves a run by knocking the ball down and good heads-up baserunning by Ramos he gets in easily a third here's a good situation to punt there he bonded up the right side you get Iran it was going to do it but the pitch was bad and he took him for a ball now he looks at Chuck Connie air runners at 1st and 3rd one out the Cubs have had four hits off of Langston already throw the first runner back to Rome Walton instill second and third on the first inning I try to steal second again we're ball inside ball two two balls no strikes one off Langston is going to have to adjust that high swinging leg kick and long slow delivery so far he's made no adjustment at all but Phelps trying to run him out of the ballpark in the first inning with the three stolen bases Walden getting a little bigger lead at first two balls of the strike foul ball in a run will score the play is made by fully throwing on Smith on a close play but he drives in his 21st run of the year and the Cubs are out in front for the nothing Walt taking second on the play happening dugout for this FINA bring me all hyped up that was a big big ball game last night it comes realized this is a big game with white Smith doing the job against the premier strikeout pitcher he makes contact and that's the play at first is very close almost we've about there now standard a little bit outside ball one I thought it was very significant that Dwight Smith started today in left field against a highly celebrated left-hander mark Langston and he almost did a homer his first time and he drives in a run the second time hey I think he's shown Don Zimmer that you can put him in left-field and not worry about him defensively that was a concern but he's made all the plays in left-field we're off and he also has hit everybody who's gone to the mound against him already we're damaris strength off two balls and a strike four to nothing - comes around in front Ryne Sandberg like to drive this one home he leads a team of 31 RBIs and homers curve strike through and the commas even up to two and two a lot of people are wanting to which their fathers are happy Father's Day the bed inside ball three three balls two strikes that was a fastball to be underfoot Porsche didn't catch the corner the Expos they're giving Walton third base he wants to take it now the goods truck to retire the side but what rock through hit dollars one month we got the bottom of the second floor to nothing in favor of the company sorry back to the ballpark in Montreal after every any part Langston walks into the clubhouse where they have hot fouls waiting for to apply to his pitching arm what would happen if they didn't have the hot pal somebody runs they'd give up one strikes a con on Tim rain that evens it up ball and a strike becomes four runs on four hits the big one the three-run homer by Andre Dawson one ball one strike oz it back one and two would you believe that Tim Raines is nothing out of 15 for the year against it Cubs pitching I shouldn't have mentioned one ball two strikes they struck kaha nothing out of sixty now I'm glad I did Richard when Tim Raines could have been a free agent two years ago a lot of sentiment in this organization was to let him go like they did Andre Johnson but Dave Dombrowski stepped in and said look if we're going to be a contender we have got to have Tim Raines in the middle of this lineup so they paid a little extra money and they signed him up a multi-year contract one man out is you be brother there's a strike call you know by lucky now is BAM three-on-two the first for many space [Music] now the pitch here it is like all over the outside corner going to the count this straight change to Hubie Brooks and what that does is put into the hitters mind that you're going to throw more than just a fastball and a slider he's got to look for another variety out there on the mound now the pet missed the outside corner Vicki Sylvester capella time here the route for the cover one ball two strikes one on there's the drive in the low field and it's caught nicely by Dwight Smith Brooks hit that ball hard Dwight Smith might have a little trouble picking it up but he made good catch by now everybody's heard about the rumors out of San Francisco that they're going to acquire Steve Bedrosian but Al Rosen also has another trade hooked up and that's with the New York Yankees for Rickey Henderson names in that Dale Corral to Maldonado as well as the young pitcher Joe Rosen trying to make something happen in San Francisco here's the pitch a look with outside ball one Steve bells and his wife Kim Steve's father Jim watching the game at Park bridge happy Father's Day the pitch low and outside [Applause] and Karen fussing of Toronto want to wish her dad George president and Itasca Illinois the same greedy three balls no strikes on Tim Wallick two out Cubs leaving four to nothing last fall to be the Cerruti family the Murari Illinois Oh here life is evolving ball four he will anyone since children Lewin Kenda to know that he's thinking about it when this Father's Day I think he's expecting a pretty big gift when he gets home off his Road another games Texas leading the Yankees to the end include Baltimore up gonna vote complete nothing the bottom of the second Baltimore Cleveland leads Kansas City one to nothing at the end of food [Music] in ours Marty PB the catcher outside he started his career in the st. Louis Cardinal organization and he caught the eye of Joe sparks the hitting instructor of the expo marks insisted that they get him they did and it was sparks who championed his cause both a double triple a and now the major league the fifth high pop fly samberg's out calling to the ball to retire this up at the end the two that comes for the exposed pumping Harry Caray and Steve stone hey I thought comedian Khomeini had died the guy looks like a venom it's one Arne Harris's headshot is Andre Dawson who hits a big three run homer in the first inning him a tendency on the mound when a man is hit your best fastball out of the park to throw in an assortment of breaking balls the next time up and that's exactly what Johnson just saw here's the pitch outside ball two now we'll see if Andre sees the past wall and it fits up hi could have the same result Johnson doesn't miss many high fastball two balls no strikes car ball it's in their first strike all there's bruce fremming working at first today they have a cockpit birthday greetings to mark Maybury album are not Carolina come back swings a high pop why poorly going up they suggest five great curveballs Andre Dawson the lengthen didn't think in any chances even it was nobody on there there's damon berryhill fanned his first time up mark rupture of Chicago watching the game here there's a drive deep center field way back is Martinez every don't fix it and he makes the cut Berryhill even if that brought a long way well I'll give you an idea how far Gosselin had hidden to get his Homer its 404 to straightaway centerfield and Otis Nixon uses it all to haul down this drive-by damon berryhill if he pulls this ball even a little bit it's out of the park there's plenty of room back there here's McClendon walked his first time off as fall is high learn the top of the third with the Cubs out in front poor the nothing all to his high well you really got it really got to appreciate the job that this guy is done to the cut Lloyd McClendon new balls no strike all three Don Zimmer credits him fruit turning the team around well they were really down was five in a row he was called up from Iowa there's a three-run homer his first time at bat he comes with that blow and as I'm losing streak and they've been leading the league or very close to it ever since ball four and McClendon wants here's Vance law he's 2 out of 8 in this series getting to 23 he drove in a Pawnee big run last night to tie up the ballgame blendin stole a base when he got out of the first inning might be looking for more the same here he's got five stoma bassist was scrubbing out good job yesterday they pitched out twice in a row but Rodgers might be doing that again that might be one of the few weapons that lengthened will have the whole base runner is close with that motion Vance law there's a throw blur it was close when we got back standing up [Music] one ball no strikes he started a swing he went around one ball one strike why McClendon proved you really don't know about a ballplayer until you haven't till he has the chance to play every day then he can show the talent Eve really have one ball one strike throughout hundreds will strike off on something in the final analysis e Dawson's injury may prove to be a boat for the Cubs chances now he's back in the lineup and their guides and have a chance and shows over what they can do while he was hurt McClendon certainly falls in that category and so does Dwight Smith you're right about not being able to analyze a player unless he plays every day Harry because coming off the bench is a whole different hitting philosophy I'll go put one more high pop foul coming back out of play Mison hasn't shown the baserunners yet that he can swing his leg and make the move to first base every time he's thrown the first it's been either step back off the mound and flip it over there or raise the leg very slowly and throw it there but every time he whips the leg around he comes home see if McClendon tried to take advantage of the running situation right here on ball two strikes there's a drive in the left center it's rolling deep going almost at all is the runner on to third base oh I cut you TIFF range utilize the seat check the ball from going to the wall and that's all the prevented big weapon from scoring the spacious dimensions here in Montreal there's no substitute for speed in the outfield banff law takes a breaking ball that Langston gets up and he drives it what looks to be into the gap but Raines cuts it off McClendon was not running on the pitch and that's what kept them at third base pretty good effort right here by Raines and you'll know why the expose figure they've got as good at defensive outfield as anybody they're going to walk Domingo Rock Ramos intentionally to get to by lucky by lucky one out of twenty sixth of the year rounds whose five out of nine in this crucial series has made believers out of the expo manager Buck Rogers dozen left many opportunity slip by flying magic he's also said that he goes a little longer with his starters these days over the past 36 games they've averaged seven and a third innings per start and that's by design Buck Rogers knows that without Jeff parrot that bullpen and they traded Paris of Philadelphia for Kevin gross they've got a hole in middle relief so he gets around that hole by not using them but he's expecting Joe Hesketh a left-hander who struggled early this year to rejoin the club in Chicago and bring their pitching staff to a full complement of 10 the bases are loaded with two out his Mike Bielecki good high and outside one ball no strikes oh boy as long as you've got a bat in your hand you can be dangerous no matter what the statistics show bases loaded one ball no strike fastball right in there the count has evened up I'd lucky sacrifice his first time up McClendon down the line 2/3 [Music] I'd like to but you can't hit it without swinging McClendon's getting a great jump at third-base I wonder if he'd entertain the idea of coming all the way down and putting the pressure on lengthen one ball to see here he comes down the line he's stuck revive and the bases are loaded we go in the bottom of the third that comes to levy forward to nothing Gary back at Olympic Stadium we go into the bottom of the third spike going leading it off the pips will depart gone almost tied up the ballgame in the bottom of the night sensation will stop by Brian Sanders kept the time run from scoring although ones they get we're on there's a I call a ball of the strike to send along congratulations to a great Cub fan Ricky Lazzara graduating from college looking on in Oak Lawn one ball one strike will put foul the back 1 & 2 by golly doesn't pretty effective hitter history Breanna me three homers 20 RBI man suppose knew they weren't getting another Ozzie Smith when they trade it for spike going but he's been steady at shortstop good loan that even good up to and to mark Langston pretty fair hidden picture will be next [Applause] fouls it back to include comes out in front for nothing [Music] [Applause] [Music] put the cup right at the 500 mark on this road trip then you look at Langston who still has his arm in towel two balls two strikes all the dodgeball - and spied on the other day remember the Cubs game in 84 playing father our Reform club I think even now two balls two strikes all three really [Applause] brings a high pop fly ought to be easy for banks law and it is one time gun on top the law the last it showed you the maturity of Mike Bielecki overthrow that man saw in fact he took something off the fastball he made it sink Owen looking straight fastball but like he just turns it over and it was the speed rather than the location that pulled on there now is Mark Lawson hits right-handed although he puts his love happens oh and one the cow one out there's a drive in the right field going back back back it's against the wall this we're the right-field wall the third hit of the year out of 14 times about the Leki gets the ball up and even with a pitcher he what happens when a sinker baller throws the ball above the way lengthened drive this fall right down the line and he's in a second base so you're looking at a pretty good athlete phone that's what percent off by lucky [Music] and a final picture mark Langston here's Otis Nixon one hour went on [Applause] now ball mclecklin hazard knocking it down and steps on the bag for the out and there's two away and here's pop bully who lied hard the gossip in the first you really have to appreciate that dad the luncheon is done regardless of where Don Zimmer puts it he seems to fill the bill and filling in for mark rates at first base he's been close to flawless at this position and first base all you have to do is knock the ball down but remember this ball hits off the dirt after hitting off the artificial surface and generally it'll pick up a little more spin dependent stays right with it makes the play when I was falling Wow good back one strike to nothing two men out runner at third as marked Langston the pitcher who double the ride [Applause] tried to call over that outside corner and slope I like he's way ahead of them Owen [Applause] [Music] food just milk gonna call now - strike one ball two strike Duane will be joining Steve after the sinning two out a runner at third four to nothing in favor the cuffs follow this I cannot upload the plate done fully to pull despite the fact that he doesn't have a whole lot of power but he showed the Cubs in this series that he tries to get the head of the bat out consequently if we lucky can get that stinker in the outside corner he'll get that ground ball to second one ball two strikes [Music] the delivery I am outside ball two two balls two strikes to us [Music] Tom for emitting food 20 it seems like a much better hitter than that it's a ball hard to to pets he fouled it back and out of play [Applause] two balls two strikes flanks to the runner third the Cubs will have the top of their batting order to start comport walk leading off two balls two strikes the delivery gwangan and commits there's a man class I think what he did but runner likes was favored races with a plate here's Buck Rogers gonna complain now will the tip up and he found it Harry is the fact that holy just stands right there if he doesn't call it you know that he's going to race the first base but that's the tip-off so puck has got an argument but his hitter knows that he called a ball and there really isn't anything argue about well if that's so I'm up from the other the reverse side why would very he'll be chasing the ball he can't do his always the foul he can't do his own umpiring he's got to go get the ball but Foley's the tip-off he's going to tell you if he fouled a ball enough because if he didn't when he sees the ball go back he's going to take off the purse and the Expos are going to get to run so lanxin back a third here's a bit [Applause] is pretty what quickly only with RBI number 18 the Leki gets the ball right about waist-high once again it doesn't sink up that high and foley takes advantage of it he rifled that ball into right field not only because I bribed in the run it prevents the sign from being retired to see any alive that brings up upon much more dangerous hitters and Andres Galarraga who banned his first time up [Applause] outside ball one one ball no strikes [Applause] a double by the pitcher Langston with one out a line single a ride with two out by fully and they expose around the board long drive but it is serving ball four that was a home run business football that's the problem with going inside and Andres Galarraga he's guessing inside and he's going to whack it and he's very strong so although you can get them out under the hand the only way to do it is to establish the outside corner tool and in this situation be better off keeping the ball away from them then you would learning with the inside part of the plate one ball one strike [Music] below football to the stretch Byron scored two in the first two st. Louis the Phillies lead the Mets five to one Duvall family strife the high flyball to ride that will retire the side Andre Dawson puts it away one run on to him Kerry Kerry Plouffe Montreal's Olympic Stadium where the Cubs at the end of for a rape number three leave the Expos four to one [Music] from olympic stadium fourth inning coming up with Steve stone at our producer director Arnie Harris this is Dwayne stats so far so good that comes with a three-run first holding a four to one lead going into the fourth Steve and the Cubs jumped on mark Langston early and it's up to Mike Bielecki to make it hold up and that's a tall order in this ballpark Jerome Walton is going to lead it off for the Cubs here in the fourth top of the order Walton takes the pitch low he'll be followed by Dwight Smith and then Ryan Sandberg comes with three in the first another run in the second ending the Expos scored their run on the third Walton takes another one down and in Langston not overly sharp today dawson's home run to straightaway center but the Cubs on the scoreboard four runs five it's Langston has issued four bases on balls Walton makes a strike home has shown that he is a patient leadoff hitter four times a not he'll work a pitcher not swinging at the first pitch waiting to get him in a situation where he has to come to him two one oh it's three balls in the strike he's in a situation right now where you know you don't want to walk the leadoff man especially a man with speed and a man who stole two bases in the first inning so he should be seeing a fastball look at Langston the 28 year old left-hander and there's ball for walk number five issued to the Cubs by Langston no Walton who has been running up a storm lately he has steals in each of his last four games including those two in the first inning has leadoff walk in the fourth the news Dwight Smith he's been trying to get the bunt down but he hasn't been able to do it against Langston and the pitches are starting to pile up for mark Langston that's cause for concern for Buck Rogers who has a very suspect middle relief for officially off for two there goes walton a strike and Jerome's end with his third stolen base now the Cubs taking liberties with Langston and they have four stolen bases against the Montreal left-hander today no doubt that Marty Peavy doesn't have the best arm in the world but there is no chance to get your own Walt when you get a jump like this it's a breaking ball easy to run against and life is going to have to do something or he's going to continue to have problems now pick off by its second with fully breaking to the bag with Walden's back in you know Steve that's a problem certainly the Langston faces but this entire Montreal staff has a big problem with that and it's not something that they seem to be overly concerned with buck rogers likes to from time to time call a pitch out to try to combat the opposition from running but it's not something that they've directly addressed the pitch is a ball so the count goes to one and one on Dwight Smith and over the period of a year if you have a club contending hoping to win a division something like that could very well cost you a few games when it comes haven't had an opportunity to be too aggressive against Montreal in the three games they've played here before but they have been in this series and there's a reason why they're three and eight against the st. Louis Cardinals and I got to believe it's the stolen base situation Walton dancing away from second and Langston steps off the rubber the Cubs four of four running today they are 12 out of 15 on the year running against Montreal [Music] and the pinch mrs. Lowe it's two and one that holds true for their other starting pitchers as well as the men out of the bullpen and if you look at the catcher's go the basis the stealing ratios they're not very good whether it's handle Vania Fitzgerald and Peavy and it's difficult really to judge the countries because as you point out Peavy had no chance on the jump that Walton got in this inning there's a high foul the other way now the calves is now even when you break down their staff go and you'll find that you have a lot of breaking ball pitcher certainly length and has a slow delivery and throws a lot of curveballs that's well Perez throws 70% sliders Dennis Martinez right at 50% on the breaking ball as is Kevin gross and that's not a staff that would make it very easy on the catching staff all the more reason to try to pay close attention to the runners and they seemingly don't Langston trying to keep Walton close out there at second base this time [Music] and Smith is about strikes fourth strikeout for Langston on the first out in the court I'm Sandberg we'll have a chance to drive in the run Sandberg has walked in a struck out I'm ninth in the league in homeruns he picked up his 10th home run of the year in the eighth inning Friday night off friend Smith you know irony here is pointed out a good point yesterday and he said the Cubs might have an advantage over some other teams in the National League because they've seen Langston for four years in spring training no surprises today this one is low ball one at Langston said that last night we talked to them a few minutes before the game and he said for whatever reason for an example the Giants trained in Arizona he didn't pinch against the Giants but he did pitch against the Cubs this one upstairs to a note he admits that the first time through he probably has the advantage over clubs that have not faced them before don't forget there's advance scouts in the stands today and there will be every time likes and worked and if they're watching the way the Cubs are attacking Langston it won't be long before everybody is trying to take advantage of them on the base path there goes Walton the pitch down at head and a bro drop stealing Peavy throws them out on the Cubs lose a base runner on the caught stealing a good pitch for Peavy to throw he goes behind Sandberg and throws it right on the button they're waiting for Walton to arrive and a good tag by wallet watch it again the location more than anything else allowed pb2 thrown out there's ball force other Cubs have another baserunner on the second walk of the inning Sandberg walks on four pitches six bases on balls issued by Langston and here's Andre Dawson who picked the deepest part of the ballpark in the first inning when he hit it out to straightaway center he crushed the ball he hit it out with a lot to spare his sixth home run of the year he popped a second in the third and Langston Spencer with a strike [Applause] Andre scene six straight breaking balls after hitting the fastball out of the park on the front of the plate is on the whole this time two strikes down Zimmern thought about not playing Dawson today the third game of this series but left it up to Andre and with the off day tomorrow Dawson's in there I figured there was a three-run homer waiting for him somewhere around the first inning zo2 very high of all two strikes you'd have to figure he's going to see a breaking ball right here and although Don Zimmer doesn't like to run a great deal with Andre Dawson oh it's a great pitch to run for Sandberg two outs and Burgett first there he goes the one to a swing and a Miss on the breaking ball and that retires the side no Ron couple walks caught stealing and a man left bottom of the fourth coming the score comes for Expos one bottom of the fourth comes leading four to one and Tim Raines will lead off for Montreal against cut right in there Michael McKee rains Brooks and Wally I think he struck out three walked one allowed to run on two hits so far and reigns makes the first one high for ball rain started the day till he won 295 as a left-handed hitter garages had them heading out of the cleanup spot and the counters one-on-one he hasn't been in any kind of group against the Cubs and hopefully he won't till we leave town because this man can be devastating offensively and Buck Rogers knew with Galarraga Brooks and Wallach you had to have a left-hand hitter against the right-hand pitcher in the middle of that lineup Raines was the obvious choice [Applause] two and one Tim Raines drove in a run with a flyball to right field in the first inning in last night's game go 416 on the year against the cups [Music] play foul ball bank a third Town Square now at 2-2 and leading off the port Montreal on the first night into five move back in the first place with a victory last night three to two Sutcliffe the winter McWilliams picking up the safe leaving Montreal by a half game of the National League East malenky got rained on a breaking ball in the second inning see if he goes back to it [Music] all the way to 3/3 vo playing Demerol toward left center which would lead to believe that on any fastball situation reigns is going to get that fence while out away from [Music] Galecki missus wad though he walks rain that opens the buckle of the fourth second walk of the day issued by Bielecki this copyrighted telecast presented by the authority the chicago national league ball club which has the right of approval up announcers and is intended solely for the private non-commercial use of our audience any publication reproduction retransmission of the use of the pictures descriptions and accounts of this game without the express written consent the chicago national league ballclub is prohibited Hubie Brooks lined to left his first time heading 275 dangerous hitter up their range draws the throw raise the stolen 14 bases this year is in plus five times not the aggressive range of years past we still a quality baserunner [Applause] rooks rows of foul third-base side for a strike hue bees grounded into five double plays this year and if he hits the ball on the ground they will turn a pair as he look at Rick Sutcliffe the hero of last night's game Mark Grace about three days away from being ready to go but Sutcliffe did a remarkable job with less than his best stuff a strike the count on Brooks rain stinks his lead and bielecki steps off the expose 6 of 11 running against the Cubs and of course reigns has not been on a lot against the Cubs so he does not have a steal against him this year Brooke smells this one a little piece of damon berryhill and the count goes to nothing into rogers logic is simple he thinks the bet of Tim Raines is more valuable to his glove his club than the legs of Tim Raines and he knows with all the leg problems that Raines had last year ankle knee hamstring problems he doesn't want to risk him too often but this is a good running situation to keep the inning alive make sure Brooks doesn't hit into the double play he strikes the cat on the Montreal right fielder [Applause] crowd up the first-base side the mints are playing in Philadelphia batting in the top of the fourth inning trailing five to two West and relief of Ron darling Willie scored four in the first I was critical of Ellie three going into that [Applause] [Music] is why the Cardinals are home against Pittsburgh Pirates have jumped to a 2 nothing lead at the end of water net Morris men against Joe McGrane in 3 West Coast games of the National League Atlanta Los Angeles Houston at San Diego and the Giants home against Cincinnati lot of action already going in the American League bounce it into the screen here in Montreal we're in the bottom of the fourth with a Cubs leading four to one so Don Zimmer in the dugout and he comes in line four congratulations for last night's game not only was he spotless out of the bullpen going from Schiraldi to Williams and getting stuck with out in time but he went out to disrupt the rhythm of past well Perez the Cubs have done nothing against Perez goes in went out there they went on to get four hits in two runs in a crucial fourth in it and Brooks does as bad as the ball hits a chopper to short out at second and that's the only one they get molec irretrievable amman reigns is forced in second you'd be Brooks preaching on a fielder's choice he can throw his bat at the ball better than anybody in the league and he does it to protect with two strengths this ball out away from him a great pitchers pitch a slider no chance for two but Tim Raines off babe Steve Zimmer before the game was talking about last night and asking the umpire to check Perez he says he didn't think it was any great move on his part he wasn't ready to class him classify himself as the genius Wallach bounces this one foul he can be very modest that way but he said the one thing about it he said I'm just a manager and he said my hitters thought something was off on the pitch that Sandberg struck out on he said the bottom fell out and he said I have to stick up for my hitters he says otherwise they're not going to feel that I'm taking this thing seriously so when his hitters complained about it he went out and pleaded the case on behalf of his hitters there is no doubt that the pitch to Wright that he swung through dropped about six inches and no other pitched that inning or afterward did the same thing from fastball threat mrs. winder wallach and the cow is one on one it's funny drain you watch pitchers warm-up and the seeker never does that but occasionally during the course of a ball game you'll see a ball drop that much and that's what alerted on Zimmer to the fact that maybe something was on the ball Sandberg felt there was what turned out to be a pretty good move on the cash runner back and the Cubs made some great defensive plays last night all three outfield positions turned in prime catcher great catch by Dawson and right Walton turned out a heck of a catch nice grab in left centerfield by Dwight Smith [Music] is a strike on the corner and the count is one and two or sandberg a nice play in the ninth inning to keep the vault in the infield and preventing the tying run from scoring and Berryhill denying the plate on the way of the plate I think that was one of the crucial plays the fact that Damon Berryhill slid his leg out and blocked Tim Wallach off the plate the man comes in feet first and if you're going to get the ball before he gets there there's no excuse for not doing exactly what Berryhill did at the legal play and an excellent play in the part of the catcher brawling strokes this one found on a play the other way over the American League Texas at New York Rangers leading four to one at the end of four innings Ken Phelps a home run in the fourth for the only Yankee run hospital appoint the matchup open at Baltimore through for the Orioles lead three nothing Cleveland leading Kansas City one nothing to four and Cleveland and Detroit the Angels lead the Tigers three to one at the end of four the Leki's 1 2 pitch to wallet check swing foul ball back into the screen Seattle in Toronto and completed 3 at Toronto 4 2 1 marins Milwaukee in Minnesota two and a half now score and at Comiskey the Red Sox in the right rice circuits Rosenberg then in panic first can look good Barry Larkin going down at a hyper-extended knee yesterday you think elros is kind of trait for every available available player in the league [Applause] [Music] whether risky Henderson rumors flying about Steve Bedrosian rumors yesterday waldek shoots one down the right side this one twisting back into the stands foul holding two counted one and two that would be quite a move the Rickey Henderson rumors that's all they need to go with mitchell and park out there would be Henderson well the last time that San Francisco had a chance to win it al Rosen went out and he acquired Rick Russell and Don Robinson then he got Craig Lefferts which really helped their ballclub and he made the moves he had to move when the Giants won their division looks like he feels that they've got a legitimate shot this year and he's not a general manager who's going to sit on his hand so expect a deal from San Francisco within the next week Giants leading Houston by a game and Cincinnati by a game and a half in the West this one hot two-two now the Phillies apparently interested in the stable of young pitchers the Giants would make available and they proposed Bedrosian deal and in the Henderson deal we're Maldonado and girls and a young pitching prospect as possibilities runner goes and the pitch has bounced through the coaching box and third moving jackie moore out of there so the count holds into two of them--and at first one out will pause here for station identification you are watching Cubs baseball on WGN Chicago's very own channel 9 [Music] Jimmy Brooks at first reaching on a fielder's choice he's there with one god Marty Peavy on deck Wallach continues to foul pitches away with a gown at 2-2 [Applause] walling leads the league in double plans 22 [Applause] ground ball diving stuff by law they got to play it second out there lawless Sandburg to get Brooks Jerry tato made the call at second there's no doubt to throw beat and the only question is is RINO keep his foot on the bag and the cups might have gotten a break an outstanding effort by Vance law diving to his left the ball beats Brooks to the bag now let's keep our eye on Sandburg and see if his foot is still on the bag Terry Tator thinks it is from that angle it's hard to tell we'll look at it from a different angle I think the Cubs got a break it only takes a split second at all just a nanosecond for his foot to be on the back of the ball now here's Peavy balling third-base side barehanded pickup my lawn to throw it on his side baby big ball back to third puts down a bunt single Wallach moves into second now the young catcher bucks is way off TV runs very well and if you'll run well and you see that third baseman back all you have to do is lay it down in his direction and he just lays down a perfect bunt nothing bad law can do although he makes a fine play Peavy is well across the bag the Expos keep the inning going free head snap off the lucky and here's spike Owen there the number is on all he popped the third his first time came into the game hitting 210 left-handed and the princes hi own as drawn high praise from Hubie Brooks while solidifying the infield situation here in Montreal he's been very steady at shortstop own out of the University of Texas college team native Calvin Schiraldi [Music] [Applause] and bielecki comes in with the strike its 1 in 100 and said he couldn't wait for the offseason to get shirali back out on the golf course it's ironic that the phrase would come from Brooks because its position vacated by Brooks that's now filled by Owen what Roger said that UBS slow down and step 4 - they thought his best position was right field and they had to fill the void at shortstop and couldn't do it until they made the trade for spike Owen with the red stop which is high - and wine Bielecki up a little bit more in the last inning or so than he was early he was sharp early as soon as he starts getting the ball up that's when the line drive starts coming out of the band they'll have to be careful here because Owen showed the first game of this series that he can be of course offensive when wide Galecki is behind on three in one in ballet keys last outing against the men's 21:42 in New York he had problems early through the first couple innings with location but then the Cubs came back got him a lead and he caught his second win and actually pitched well he's behind on and a foul ball back today it's been a little different situation he was sharp early as the Cubs broke out to a four nothing lead they now lead four to one in the bottom of the fourth and Galecki in this inning not quite as sharp as he was in the early stages of this game full count - Owen - Bernard with two men out [Applause] I wanted to right centerfield doston is there waiting and puts it away to retire the side no runs out of that one fun hit - men laugh - four four two on come on to the fifth inning from Olympic Stadium Montreal have a good crowd this afternoon we had better than 30,000 paid last night and the neighborhood of 40 or so today when it was talking with Dave Dombrowski before the game about this contract that von Hayes signed where he has a clause in his contract we can't be traded to either Canadian team it was a big contract can come up words at ten million dollars over five years but he said that he didn't feel that that was a fair clause years past there was a tax consequence if you got paid in American money in Canada but now the ball club makes it up and he feels it really stops a trading situation there's a few players besides one Hayes that have that in their contracts his Damon Berryhill Oh grab by Wallach at third in the throw to first Gold Glove play right there please sit away from Barry Hill Wallach won the Gold Glove last year and this is why they think he'll win it again but he does have 11 airs this year however he's got some great range to his left and probably only Terry Pendleton can filled with Wallach this is an example why they have fended off all the trade offers the last few years for Tim Wallach there's live McClendon McClendon has walked twice two of the six bases on balls given up by Langston routine play 2/3 long Pro and out number two Wallach to Galarraga McClendon after being walked twice when after the first pitch bounced to third you mentioned when did the pitches are starting to pile up on lengthen and so this is an ending where he'd really love to get out of it with just a few pitches only a couple pitches so far he had thrown 87 pitches through the first four innings his fans law grants one out of two a double in the third hi ball one ball game of the fifth the Cubs leading four to one Berryhill and McClendon have got out third the first to open the cup front Mikado's wanted one Langston has a very strong arm most pitchers when they get up to the 100 pitch mark their manager and pitching coach are starting to look out there and they'll have a pretty short hook on it Langston probably can get up to 120 125 pitch mark without losing any effective he goes to two and one on Vance law he made the jump from double-a to the major leagues with Seattle won 19 games a couple years ago with the Mariners 15 last year line drive but right at all shark left law by law but on rabbit the Cubs are up and down in order and the fence or quick inning bottom of the fifth coming for one cup of the summer fun on The Andy Griffith Show Marnie has a motorcycle with a sidecar to help fight crime in Mayberry so it's the week of America America's favorite crime fighter Andy Griffith which begins tomorrow at 6:00 on channel 9 bottom of the fifth inning mark Langston the Montreal pitcher comes out with his second hit of the ballgame the first singles into lap he doubled back in the third inning he's a good athlete and has enjoyed a chance to swing the bat of a national league he's two for two today here's the problem last time out like he got the ball up in a white length and he drilled it to right so we probably figure well I've come inside jamming now he rifles a single to left maybe the breaking ball is in order next time notice Mixon switch hitting outfielder Oh for two some things to pitch down for ball now Langston has two of the four Montreal heads excellent struck out and bounced out the first [Applause] [Music] here's now make it a two-run ball game a double the 14th are we on that ball out over the plate Glendon coming off the bag not figuring Nixon to pull the ball he hits the ball right behind him Langston with very good speed scores easily and Nixon goes into third base triple from Dixon and his second triple of the year at the Blake calvin schiraldi goes to work in the bullpen I can throw a lot of signs of weakening in the third [Music] [Applause] enclosed in an hour always single in Iran in the third is 1 for 2 the foul ball strike one I would think that Don Zimmer would go to the bullpen even if the lanky is able to get through this inning but he is hoping he doesn't have to go to the bullpen in the fifth [Music] Andres Galarraga is on deck Nixon the runner at third [Applause] [Music] now the top two men in the order Nixon and Foley and the runs batted air Langston has scored both Montreal runs [Applause] with pack file gonna be a fog [Music] [Applause] three ball game [Music] the second of the year turns him elected now it's a 4 to 3 ballgame and we'll take a look at at normal speed Mike Bielecki comes to the set position and that's just a terrible call on the part of the mute he had a second hesitation right there and Don Zimmer can't believe it not a good stall [Applause] the second Sandberg still to first is in time for the app the ball call scores Nixon its Florida great [Applause] observing his 28th birthday today is the hitter he's overdue so far [Music] our Agha and this one too short Ramos has it and the throw is in time two outs to God in the pepper with Tim Rae brain he struck out on the sidewalk in the floor it hasn't been bunting a whole lot but the best way to get out of a slump is to lay one down Marni Peavy showed that if you catch man's law back you can do it right now Vance law is well behind the bag of third [Applause] swaying and a mess rains when after the fast ball one strike to count on it Steve Wilson has joined Schiraldi in the bullpen Oh Mikey do to hit second and the sixth inning with strength bands to jump on rain till 2:00 [Applause] door runs five hits for the Cubs three runs five hits for the Expos Oh to the cow [Music] fix it away one ball two strikes single by Langston and then the triple up the right-field line by Otis Nixon made it afforded to game and with poli at the plate a balk was called on Bielecki scoring Nixon to make it four to three foul ball back found holding it of all two strikes [Applause] lucky making his 12th start of the year johnboll first base comes head in position while McClendon takes care of an unassisted to run scored two hits nobody left do five the score four three cups the Expos the climb right back into this one after the Cubs jump to a four nothing lead the Expos have made it a 4-3 ballgame thanks in large part to the hitting of their pitcher mark Langston who is two for two with two runs scored now as we go to the sixth Domingo Ramos will lead it off for the Cubs Ramos had three hits and a run scored last night and has been on twice today with a single and an intentional walk nobody up in the on-deck circle yet and nobody up in the bull pen so it would appear that Bielecki is going to come out and win with the off day tomorrow maybe Don Zimmer might be pushing his luck a little bit with Mike Golic you seem to be losing the pitch - Ramos is down ball one Domingo Ramos Phillies leading the men's five to two on the top of the fifth and veterans steady strike [Applause] that is one and one BrahMos filling in at shortstop for Shawon Dunston Dunston with a tender hamstring call two two and one five strikeouts for Langston six faces on balls there's Palicki moving into the on-deck circle four runs five heads and a line drive into right that's going to be in there for a basehead so Domingo Ramos opens the sixth of the single and that will give the lucky a chance to do some bunny let's take a look at the pitch so you think you only have to hit strikes in this lead high fastball over his head and Domingo Ramos says I like that one it's looking pretty good I think I'll line it too right he continues to impress you lanky sacrificed in the second inning makes the pitch upstairs for ball Mike with three sacrifices on the year three out of five in sacrifice attempts Domingo has his batting average up to 280 nine he started this series in the 240 there he goes the pitch is bunted up the first base side we rollin fair and picked up finally by Galarraga so ramos breaking on the pitch and Galecki puts down the sacrifice scored three unassisted so ramos is in scoring position for the top of the order Jerome Walton who's going on three times in a row kind of a shame that the lucky did but that particular pitch because Ramos had about a three step jump off first base and although he's not the fastest member of the Cubs he would have stolen second base easily Walton with two singles and a walk the pitch down and in ball one look at how far Ramos is the second base but times the Leki had the ball come off his bat one of the crate chunks of all time is Langston just completely forgot about it Walton takes one hi two-nothing the cat Galarraga comes in from first to talk with Langston come for the three run first on the home run by Dawson added around in the second inning run driven in on a ground ball by Dwight Smith and that's the difference in the game at the moment Ramos on second [Music] time call Langston folks it over everybody the count still two-and-oh instead of stopping in the middle of his delivery Langston went ahead and just put the ball right over not only the hitter in the catcher's hand but he floated it over the plate umpires head as well now the count the Walton - nothing Walton has seen the ball very well from Langston today if you get the pass ball here [Music] Walden and the base him in the seventh inning last night driving in Ramos with what turned out to be the deciding run of the game the Cubs won 3-2 the pitch is a strike two and one well that's one thing about Langston even though he's behind you will not always see the fastball now the cap two and one why'd the countess three and one Langston said early in his career since he had such a great arm when he found himself in trouble he tried to throw his way out of trouble realize that didn't always get the job done made that adjustment they're about to be a 19-game one or two years ago 3 1 the count to Walton and a strike on the outside a Walton was on his right at first Ilhan went up with the right arm so the count is full three two there's a big curveball three and one walton gives up on it it catches the outside corner it was a strike where catcher Marty Peavy caught it but not where it came over the plate and a breaking ball three two got him on strikes so Langston stay to the breaking stuff and strikes out Walton now number two in the sixth and here's Dwight Smith now the left-handed hitter cemento for three with a run batted in on the ground ball the second in the second inning [Applause] - strength Langston falling behind Walton three-and-oh came back with three breaking balls to get him starts - left-handed hitter Smith with a breaking ball and now Don Zimmer [Applause] [Music] I don't think he likes to call this inning but then it's an that I didn't say anything [Music] Todd apparently had made some gesture toward the dugout Zimmer comes out to have a word with Han that's it [Music] strike the count on Smith Ramos second base to God Smith takes one inside it's one-on-one Phillies are batting leading the New York Mets five to three at Philadelphia game in the seventh Magadan homered in the sixth inning for New York up van Smith goes down and the count is two and one and the Pirates have added four runs in the third at st. Louis that's now 10 to nothing Pittsburgh and he calls this a Wells Fargo pit he went down in stages better near having a good Sunday who want pitch all three new clothes three one the cap well if he went with the breaking ball the Walton on three in one he's got a cover there I would think with the open base he'd come to him again with a breaking ball but if he throws a hittable fence wall twice miss should be right on it the three one and a bouncer foul off the fastball he did get the fastball and couldn't do much with it look for the pranky here do I colqhoun - Dwight Smith [Music] and it's hi he walked him Langston gives up his seventh walk other Cubs and runners at first and second to God and ryne sandberg is the hitter Sandberg has walked twice and struck out swinging as a hitter you tell yourself here to lay off the curveball unless you absolutely have to hit it what you want to do is hit Langston and fastball TF rhino can pick one of the fast balls out of this assortment the pits in for strike Langston more times than not here in the 6th owing to breaking ball for strikes that was a good one he still has plenty of bite on that curveball Langston has made 19 pitches in this inning so he's made a hundred and twelve pitches for the game right now and we are not through the sixth inning I think TV telling him that least take a couple looks back at Ramos at second nobody's paying any attention to him the Cubs could just as well double steal Ramos is getting a lead halfway down and a line shot one hop this short Owen comes up to play at second out there and the comes around in the six no runs one hit to left bottom of the sixth inning coming the score comes for Montreal three when Steve started on Tijeras Duane stats moving into the bottom of the sixth inning from Montreal Mike Bielecki goes back to the mound and the cub bullpen is busy with Schiraldi and Wilson throwing UV Brooks will open the montreal half to six and the first trick lined into Center here comes Walton and he makes the catch for the edge you have to believe at the first sign of trouble Don Zimmer will dip into the bullpen here kolecki has struggled through the last couple innings cuts for two runs in the fifth nothing Mike Bielecki is out there on a string Jimmy Brooks hit the ball very hard one base hit or a walk and then we'll probably be in for Blanke John would love to see him get through the ticks if he could and save his bullpen Wallach misses the pitch breaking down and away strike one Bucky with three strikeouts they all came in the first couple innings a matter of fact they all came to the first four hitters of this game he got Nixon Galarraga and Raines three out of the front four hitters he gets in on wallet can he inside/outside fouled up the right side two strikes and particular pitch showed you that valenki is starting to lose it because Berryhill wanted the ball loan away but like he missed with the slider on the inside part of the plate and fortunately for Mike it was well inside and your hitters tell you when the stuff is going they're hitting the ball pretty hard and all things being equal in a situation where you don't have your good stuff later in the game it's always best to stay away from a guy and if he does take you out they can go the opposite way outside of all two strengths EPV the catcher on deck Monty TV Brooks's lined to Center one into the counter Wallach two balls two strikes come scored three in the first Andre Dawson hit a three-run home run another run in the second with the Expos scored in the third and two in the fifth they make it a one-run ballgame [Applause] hopper Berryhill stalking this one McClendon down the line but it's going to be very Hill who makes the catch on the foul pop two outs in the sixth inning bases are empty and the catcher Marty Peavy comes off is 1 for 2 with a bunt single it's a good story because you never know where your break is going to come as a member of the st. Louis farm system II really hustled against Joe spark sparks had the Indianapolis ballclub and it's stuck in his mind that TV love to play the game would give you a hundred percent when he was released by st. Louis Montreal picked him up and here he is takes a strike on the outside edge and he were Marty would you name your son Stevie would you sure you might that's right [Music] two strikes given the tendencies that I've noticed you have you probably would know your name we're stoned and did name your kids TV yeah all Rosetta if it was a girl we count a ball two strikes the lucky very close to doing exactly what Don Zimmer would love him to do and that's at least get out of six is he went he be out on strikes and that retires the side one two three we are through six Harry will be back in a moment with the score 4-3 cup with Steve stone and Wayne stats Harry Caray back at Olympic Stadium a Montreal where the Cubs won score to nothing lead is down to a precarious four to three it would behoove us to get a few likes to run and here's a guy who hit cup three of them the first time he swung his bat a three-run homer in the first inning hopped out and struck out six as langsam hasn't thrown thrown him another fastball except to wasted since he hit one in the first inning blanks are good looking up ma'am the business we're heroes Langston up around the hundred and fifteen Pitts mark right now and he's also that running the bases all day long he must be in great condition there's a drive in the left Sommerfeld going to be an easy out and rain now very he'll open three captain Carl Orlando Florida the Father's Day greeting to Hal Jackson the Marnie Harris's hometown of Skokie Illinois [Applause] that's the only reason I mentioned it Barney because of Skokie one out nobody on Berryhill hit the ball very hard in the third inning chasing Nixon all the way back to the wall in center field swing [Applause] nothing wrong with a breaking ball of mark length 120 pitches into this game and it's still biting well he's only allowed two hits in the last five inning for the hips off home came in the first two innings go into the count one ball two strikes looking ahead to the bottom of the seventh it will be the lower end of the batting order but that's the end that's done all the damage by Leckie I don't know whether he kind of relaxes there's a big structure mouth Berryhill decided to make a run for it and realize that he saw PV go to first base on the bunt he knew he could not run him so he figured well but give up the chase this is great I'm going to run and beat you then I realize I can't be too so that's a southern strikeout for Langston he's also walked 7 here's McClendon 2 out nobody on [Applause] Langston's probably wondering to himself why he's been wasting his time in the American League and after you can hit Mike he can hit [Applause] it's two out of two against by lucky and scored - there we run the grimmy nose is going to be flagged to out smoke herb in there he's yummy sharp breaking curve and then he has a change of a skirt he's also has a fine fastball of the slide and Gregg competitor 2 to 2/5 bow back get the feeling if we funding to get a fence ball out over the plate he could take him out of the ballpark he hit a home run against him in spring training but he's probably going to be looking another breaking ball right here there's a high pop foul out of play two balls two strikes that's the difference between location and velocity that was a straight change McClendon looking fastball and he got the head of the bathroom the Franks on little too quickly fall outside 3 & 2 Vance law would be back McClendon who has walked twice bounced out the other time we improved Travel diving stop here's the throw but he beats in Opera him like oh and made a great stop again but McClendon beats it out fine effort by owner doesn't have great rains and Lloyd McClendon runs too well to get him on this play [Applause] thirty five thousand nine hundred and sixty eight taking here today your ball they're going to kolobok I think yep in scoring position the cups on the same thing with Mike Bielecki only that time it's four to run the mark Langston picks up a block and you can see there he theta in your picture when I was small what a time to get a blow or mclubbe another [Applause] and stolen bases off Patrol what ball strike open up and going now for Montreal Langston heading up to 130 Pittsburgh Pervis outside all do and he began again up in the pen Damon which combined innings of relief last life two balls no strikes ball three Domingo Ramos was two out of two would be next and I won't be able to drive Graham's law loose three balls no strikes [Applause] right paw three balls at the strike Ramos has five for his last six in this series as Steve Wilson gets up and get blue the lead throughout Korean Won defense Brewery slow and evolves about Korean food he has a good slider and a good term he changes speeds on both curveball up cookie out there becomes lead for free ray balls two strikes VAM small wedding [Music] line drive base hit the rudders there spike going pay the price I'm not being tall if he were six feet tall either held a ball as it was it went off his glove if his chart left field bases and a big RBI for Vance long last I hit this ball hard enough to just barely get over the head of spike Owen at the RBI number 24 Owen does everything he can to try to keep this ball in the infield so a ball turns into a run for the Cubs and that could be the biggest run of the ballgame here now is Ray Vaughn robbing boots there's Rick Sutcliffe one of the heroes last night girl outside it hits now for the cup Langston it's an unduly wild but now seven walks Trevor [Applause] [Music] the best inside ball through balls no strikes Langston is due up second in the seventh inning and normally you'd say well you can go to the pen or a pinch-hitter but Langston has been the best hitter on this Expo ballclub that's been Mike Bielecki weakness today Langston two balls no strikes the bet Oh a while drop by TV for a moment he lost track to where the ball was ball three the good stuff I'm Artie TV 58 foot breaking ball some pitch to handle its EPV shifting his weight and making sure that ball hits off the chest protector and lock and advance three balls no strikes the pen ball for oil boy the throw he's been on base four times in a row two up two hits scored a run and now by Lucky's they call back and Mitch Webster is going to be the pinch-hitter Webster will bat for by linking Westar pinch head and the first game in the series of the bases loaded nobody out midnight at a time when the Cubs were in visiting a big big ground but this is another day mentor of person second and he'll be facing the left-handed slants and licensed batting right here I think he'll be facing the bullpen and all Buck Rogers is waiting for it's for Webster to be announced he started to take a walk out to the mound waiting to see exactly who's coming up it is Webster regardless of who he brings out of the pen let's see if he goes with his left hander and I don't think he's going to well he should know where the Webster's another hit or right-handed or left-handed it's not just the status a guy is played for you you know the figures sometimes lie but you know what his real talent is whether it's right-handed or left-handed all right that's it it's going to be a new picture and EEMA Gaffigan will be back with more in a moment [Music] teamate so he's very familiar with him as Don Zimmer shouts them encouragement Bielecki during his six innings permitted three runs five hits walk to fam four here's Mitch Webster turning around out of his love pandas against and EEMA Gaffigan who worked two innings last night lying only one hip that being the only baserunner he's permitted in a losing cause filled it up your lisa maatz 5 3 in the 7th pirates leaving st. Louis and the nothing and the board gabigol spit there's a smash foul outside first they give birth guarding the bootleg liquor he gets another save yes [Applause] Webster 82/63 105 is the pinch-hitter van Claus turned around to bite his former mates and Webster can do the same thing these swings I wrote all into a good day on the Kemper with Andre Johnson in a three-run homer Vance law with an RBI let's see if Webster can follow suit he's in the hole on two 5:3 in favor the cup outside one ball two strikes we just waste the beverage [Applause] Webster has have three homers one ball two strikes all too Webster's have one home run right-handed - of a month [Applause] two balls two strikes two out two on the Cubs lead by two the deuces are wild [Applause] - bit there's a high pop fly the rain coming in but one run two hits do well we on the bottom of the seventh and I've got plus five to breathe Harry Caray back in Montreal Steve Wilson 24 year old left-hander of the Cubs will take over he's won three as you see lost on save one in a very easy job if you can call it that and let's get the game to Mitch William Wilson a three and OH the ER a right at the 3:00 mark for the 18th diamond he's got it saved only given up one home run in 27 innings there's Owens batting right heaven takes a strike once nothing out of two bottomless seventh Cubs leading by two [Applause] what what the ground he filed without of play it was one of the guys in the trade for Rafael Palmeiro you didn't hear a lot about that's because he was a double a pitcher but obviously the scouting system for him frying the cup worked very well because Wilson has been a big man in that trade he has build a bill and minerally for the cup o until the count fouled aback by lucky or two good ballgames six innings five hits three runs to have them to mark Langston probably would still be there Langston had two of being five is he allowed and scored two of the three run one ball two strikes tomaso garcia in the on-deck circle the buck rogers starting to make some moves and that will be a miguel began with brett gideon warming up in the bullpen [Applause] I'll get back again one ball two strikes very Hill now goes out to have a word equal to ball down it's like Oh [Music] [Applause] despite going it's at 300 [Music] [Applause] - ovum right hand is the one of them whatever one ball two strikes ona the slap hitter from the left side was from the right side he's got some pop a little like Ozzie Smith of the Cardinals he fouls it off again one ball two strikes [Applause] calvin schiraldi's out nobuta [Applause] move it outside on to the walls to track [Applause] big ball game claude becomes to win and hold on the first place and increase their lead the bet high pop foul out of play two balls two strikes Montreal's half the game behind the gum there you see Don Zimmer's studying he possibilities on both lineup cards new balls two strikes [Applause] again he founded this one they detachable big London's air and he hasn't won out let's pause for station identification you're watching Cubs baseball on WGN Chicago's very own channel 9 the map so Garcia a second baseman right-handed batter will bat for Andy Magoffin goodness Gandia comes into this on a 239 no home runs 9 RBIs Oh 410 is a pinch hitter he drew a base on balls last night against Mitch Williams in a tough situation we showed some patience after falling down on two in the count [Applause] they're volumn the high one ball no strikes one up 24 year-olds food wilson boy he shows a lot of [Applause] boys out there with London experience two balls no strike Garcia and disciplined hither [Applause] ball three three balls don't fight [Applause] now watch will see go to hand run in front of his face with his hiding strike all revolves and the strike one out bottom of the seventh there's a long drive way back to rope off is there to our Garcia hit the ball on the button add aroma walk getting a good break on the ball all day very easily the big ballpark and you might as well use it all three one Garcia guessing fastball he got it he hasn't hit the ball out of the park this year and a little men hit him they don't go quite as far here now is Otis Nixon the triple Homer run batting left-handed in the fifth they're talking about the bunt right now the fact that Otis Nixon will lay it down blendin is telling him he's very fast get to the ball quickly because I'm going to hang back looking outside one ball no strikes to US law playing shallow shows McClendon hi ball two fully scheduled be next we'll probably have a picture to Grampa he being a left-hand hitter we've got a good one in Rex Hudler who also plays second so that would be a natural situation for the buck Rodgers if Nixon can keep it alive 2 Vols don't stripes strike all over the outside corner to me [Applause] Nixon would love to get a base our ball by giving only 230 there's his butt in the air to make 11 1 2 3 an hour at the ends of semeth cup still leaving 5 degrees Harry Caray and Steve stone as we go now into the top of the 8th to Rome Walt leaving in off breath Gideon is the new pitcher for the expo we still Gideon with the Pittsburgh Pirates he's got a sinking fastball in a slider and he comes into this one with no record and a 270 er a on for the 4th time well the San Francisco with Giants made the deal to the groomer this morning the Phillies have traded relief pitchers Steve Bedrosian to the giant for pitchers Dennis cook by the way when a ballgame yesterday the Giants Terry Mulholland a left-hander and minor league in beaver Charlie hey drove off leaving it on two balls no strikes Wow three red Guinea and a right-hander career noting what has been on base three times today I call Steve fry up and throwing in the bullpen so a left-hander getting ready but Rogers hoping that Gideon and Frey can help him in middle relief that's a big question [Music] revolves Huda strike wow the pitch back Riaan to doll almost been on base three times today and that's not going to hurt his on-base percentage coming back he's really given the Cubs a big lift in the leadoff spot three balls two strikes we're at the top of the eighth [Music] fouled it off again dream - you have to make Gideon get the ball up he throws a natural sinker and if it looks knee high by the time it gets to the hitter it drops out of the strike zone that's of course easier said than done but a lot like the way fruit Souter pitched if you make him get the ball up he becomes hittable [Music] the cloud again three balls two strikes ball four he walked him and Walt picks up his great for sending he's on page four times tonight out of five today rather out of five trip sort of place who walks to him giving a quick ride after inflight shrimp Bravo first would think they'd be pitching out here Walton is stolen three bases the first time that any cub has stolen three bases in a game since Bobby they're near back in 86 he's got the drive concession here in Montreal all four three or write scrip blowing outside idiom is out of zone of Texas makes his home in Leander touch six 295 pounds 26 years old my little a lotta uniforms originally with the pirates he's been a makin Prince William Nashua Harrisburg Pittsburgh Buffalo Indianapolis and now Montreal all right after delivery all outside them high ball two that was a catcher heart PD out to talk to this is a good ball to run if you're thinking about him laying the ball in there he knows he can't walk Smith you know a fastball is coming Smith a good contact hitter the Cubs want to show some movement they've got a red-hot runner in Jerome Walton who seems to have the timing down at the major league level who all's no strikes college' back he wasn't going so narvik count on blight smith two wolves and the strength Giroux want the runner first the Cubs would love to kill her on her to hear to guard against anything more hair-raising finishes two balls and the strike he's back this crowd unless they encourage them on the scoreboard to yell don't say anything there's the throat of Roadrunner back Gideon doesn't have much of a move so Walton can even get another step trying to take advantage of the arm of Marty TV that hasn't been particularly good today new balls in the strike there we go there's a pitch line foul ball oh boy just a couple of inches down the third-base line the count 2 & 2 the hit and run almost worked to perfection Dana DeMuth right on the call and you can see that ball a couple of inches foul well no the some personality the birdie temple once said baseball is a game of inches two balls two strikes Palfrey how much doubt about drum walk going revolves two strikes there we go there it is swung on line drive into centerfield will because Smith lines the Nixon [Applause] one out now they bring up Samberg open two today walk twice Buck Rogers has been pitching out in this series Little Dipper call the times for a base runner to read the catcher but occasionally a young catcher and that's what party Peavy is might just take a step out there to tip off the pitch up so he's looking over at Buck Rogers to see what he wants to do with the natural situation right here 101 lon curved inside Sanford with 206 hit us hard low line drive spike oh and made a fine play on and tossed in the 2nd perforce hop then the [Music] a little bit foul ball down the third-base line one and one are in the top of the eighth and looking ahead to the bottom of the egg Oh health holy Galarraga brain and if anybody gets on Hubie Brooks bit more so we got to go through the good hitters at least one more time go on inside that's amazing the walk has so much success stealing bases he really doesn't give too big a loon probably should hear Harry because I think he's getting the sign to go at this point but perhaps Don Zimmer doesn't want to take the van out of the hand of Andre Johnson you notice colors and steal a lot of bases usually have one foot off the carpet that's considered a good lead only exception to that is that recall with Lou Brock who was able to get a short lead but had such a quick first step that he was able to steal easily here's a good job all three say I'm very looking for the either take sign he wants to know a wolf is going to revolves have the strike there we go there's a pack in the cemetery here we inscribe for a face to throw or the sticks on a perfect grow that wall not got mixed out of such a phase he would have made third that's exactly what happened Harry he gets entangled its second made and right there when he looks out the center field he should realize that it's going to be very close to 3rd the throw beat them and the call by Dana DeMuth wants it again good solid throw by Nixon right there so Samberg walks for the third time bud he's still up there rather he walks down for the third time he's on in first base walk is throw hot trying to go from first to third he gets better for the stoma base and second so he has four stolen bases today that bloody doesn't consider stated secondary the nationally record for steel for the game is five Tony Gwynn did it post recently there's a high buff foul might go out of play and it does so Dawson is still alive Dawson started the ballgame with a three-run homer long has four stolen bases today he stole second and third to the first so second in the fourth it was out trying to steal third so second here in the eighth without trying to reach third on the wild throw right to the shortstop that left the inning so is no run one night left we go the bottom of the eighth completing five debris [Music] harry caray batches Montreal has done several reactor you wonder what actors do in a ballgame he's swallowing a little about watch making sure his breath is good and fresh let's go to small avoid so Airy [Applause] there's Rex Hudler cutting houses in pitch other these types of strike ball he's a pretty good butter and very fast cutler hitting 333 this year in a utility role for Buck Rogers 2 for 11 with a home run at an RBI as the pinch hitter [Applause] I'd even become he's batting for Tom Foley was one out of three driving in a run the entire Montreal attack is been divided by their starting pitcher mark Langston with 202 is going to run a high fly ball that's easy Andre Dawson makes the cut that's born a row retired by Steve wolf have not only live right by lucky in his last two inning he hired six in a row but that's ten straight batters retired by the cuff to queen by liking and Wilson one out is gonna rock Debra would love to have rains hitting from the right side if he could getting out Galarraga first america breaking ball over the outside corner fine for the same thing but he missed that conduct Galarraga you know hits the ball a right field just as well as the left one out nobody on bottom of the eighth [Applause] hey slug admit he plugs the fastball right by set up with two big curve balls in Wilson had something on that one he also kept it away from Galarraga Wilson is going to go let's see if he tries to drop the curb all over the outside corner [Applause] fastball instead and he was aiming that one for the inside chronic two balls two strikes Galarraga Oh for three all free refills calvin schiraldi in the bullpen we're evolves two strikes [Applause] a bouncing ball through signal for summer not to bring up rain reigns is nothing out of two what makes him more dangerous remember he has not had a hit enough to come frontier home for 17 never has a decision to make you go with your youngster and make rain hit from the [Applause] ran from the right side hitting just 220 - at the left hand hitter 295 Calvin would surely be brought on to face UV Brooke I would assume regardless of what happened to rain Oh on the very first bill [Applause] research stops up hi my doll face rain breaks its belly finally get debated against the car [Music] here comes down simmer under nail-biter in Montreal born at the tough break for the Christmas for ground balls the singer gravel right through the middle of the assignment [Applause] he had retired for neuro before these two is what we thought before following the spunky [Applause] calvin schiraldi will be the new pitcher he puts only one man last I got him out before wouldn't stoop over there you look at the numbers one in forfeiture early on for the 28th from there with the 330e ra and calvin has a tall order couple of men on in facing the best one hitter of the expo UV Brooke [Applause] how do you get this you'll be Prasad I'd look down he's hitting 277 which is an average enough every boy every time we love something's hitting a rope of somebody or or he on somebody the key area the two out of the three times he's banded today nobody's been on bay is a very tough hitter with runners on base because he hits the breaking ball very well and Campbell would like to stay away from bringing in advance of all the left-field if you get that fastball inside though Berryhill going out to have a word with calvin schiraldi and he wants them to remember to keep an eye on the baserunner Roget not the fastest man around but he still is capable of stealing a base he's stolen five this year [Music] Schiraldi appearing in his 28 game [Applause] the punch Megumi Brooke blowing outside which would you is not throwing in the boat back we're in the bottom of the eighth [Applause] move outside ball through will he come to them with the past law new balls no strikes he fouled it all a fastball inside works at an inside-out swing on Allen he's grounded into five double plays this year they come looking for another one you've all got the strike Wow as a tyrant storm first I'll visit here for calvin schiraldi and that just about the worst thing you can have happen take the out of the play situation throws this ball way why to the plate and Berryhill can that shift his weight get in front of it now it's free of what the town goes to three balls two strikes one out and Tim Wallick will be next [Applause] thrown a slider yet and it would take a lot of guts to throw one here but with first base open why tap its if you can get it close great balls two strikes whoa [Applause] [Music] Oh do we love a double-play countdown dinner [Applause] he's got Miko loosening up along with William he goes a man who can get to the ground ball because of a thinker but Williams is a big safe man for Don Zimmer and this is why managers are paid to make decisions that are awfully tough and none much tougher than this and they want Pico the wild pitch really changed the situation and Jeff Miko's going to come here hoping to get Warlick to him nor double-play [Music] Thanks [Music] as one who lost out say very funny football and nobody hits in the more double-plays than tim wallach who's grounded into eleven of them this year and that leads the ball club by a wide margin and Don Zimmer brings in his sinker baller just another day in the office for him and just another tight ballgame in Montreal for the Cubs and the Expos and there's Mike Fitzgerald [Music] hey Cole as the bases loaded with one out Warwick coming out of two ago electri walk one but now he's placing us football right this becomes a difficult situation because what do you do depends bit to Pico the sinker ball but Tim Wallick is the lowball hitter one of the few right hand hitters in baseball that hits the ball now but a pitcher all things being equal [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] from Dave Martinez coming on to pinch run for Hubie Brooks and he represents the leading run Martinez running for Brooklyn I'm PL and enjoy telling him to make the line drive go through but on a ground ball you've got to get down there in a hurry and you've got to break up 2 to get the X Pro the run [Applause] [Music] [Applause] Tim Wallach over 2 this game is not for the faint-hearted if they'll play back one out gravol Grover furs in time for the outer run store surprise of foreboding a run batted in for walling as double Raja classical place 30 second RBI of the year for Wallach and Kiko got the ground ball but it was so slowly hit the Cubs couldn't earn a pair was thinking in the front of the Mingo Ramos he realized that Martinez got a good play first and he only had one plane and gun denial five the poor now we're gonna have we'll see you Jimmy but still have gotten the ban but only be walnuts jeomsun I believe I think you'll like to put him on birthday ferry and take your chances with spike Owen Johnson the premier pinch-hitter for Buck Rogers only fitting to 55 is Gary his is hitting 289 left-handed he's mine 423 with dick we're cuttin Silverado might bring in toots would have blood here that's where this gonna be just because in his job [Music] got the ground ball they got a run on it but the cups still lead by one and here comes Mitch Williams who got me this 16 save last night Zimmer knows that Johnson is not a good right man hitter hitting just 1 11 from the right side and he also gives Mitch Williams debates to play with with the open first day now Buck Rogers has the decision do you bring in Fitzgerald or do you let Johnson hit and it's going to be Fitzgerald so the wheels turning at both sides this is why watching National League Baseball is a lot more interesting than American League baseball because of the movement managers have got to make well put sterols made the loss out against Mitch widgets last night striking out down the ballgame he comes up again with runners at second and third the cops leading by a run the bottom of the 8th Jerald 1 4 4 is a pin hitter this year hitting 237 overall with a couple of home runs of 16 RBIs and Mitch Williams looking for save number 17 at 1 & 2 with a 227 tra on for the 32nd time he's man 37 and 35 a two Thursday or the big player of the swimming sizes to see my rate they forget Wilson is our federal baby with widget great for men and Aurora in time the two balls were not in the heart by Galarraga and raised just right through the middle but then the wild fits really chases heading around - the point was it's sterile now has a chance to put in steam ahead [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] girls giving Barbie he's 1 out of 4 is a pet chiller [Applause] they quit Indrani as long as hi [Applause] one ball no strikes almost about the wild food spoon [Applause] two balls no strikes [Applause] [Music] he's got a man at first base and bruce fremming we will be watching for that bar raise the rubbers fouled it back this way bring all eternal blue look to my head that's what does Buck Rogers was gambling on here we get a pass ball and he thought he'd get it right down the middle that right on it because he found it great bag but just got under I before thousands of persons we walk the ball four [Applause] near spy going [Applause] that's Palladia coming out of a good bug-out as a pitcher Burnett was throughout by going to the bottom and something out of three Hillar kind of situation much better hitter from the right side he's the man yet today that although hit the ball through the infield but for an outstanding effort by Ryan Sandberg at second base [Applause] [Music] crank call a slider they walk past [Music] cochlear if we got a bomb out Williams waka man can't afford to walk that hard [Applause] high flyball where that was going to be car to retire with laughs holy cow FICO it is the moment on way but Walt made the test one run two hits bases loaded at the end of eight Cubs still eating five four [Music] very carry back the amount rial is saving our Tennessee's gonna stay in the game playing right field Rex Hudler also stays in the game to play second and Frank Fitzgerald also stays in the game he's catching those of the changes with Brett Gideon on the mound that stays the same and the counts trying to add an all-important inference run and give Mitch Williams some breathing room in pursuit of the 17th save of the year here's damon berryhill he's Oprah for his a couple balls hard will recur after the net September behind and tied up the Phillies the Phillies scored the winning run in the bottom of the 9th and win 6-5 comes to pick up a full game on the Mets a full game between Lewis and a full game of Montreal if they can make this lead hold up two balls no strikes as Gideon has walked everybody walked to and the only inning pitch they can throw a strike Damon we could use those right he screams and he fouls it back the cons have made eight hits four in the first two innings a total of four from then on out getting in is second inning relief [Music] it's London respect as a patient to left and Berryhill is on there Berryhill singles to left that brings up McClendon he's one out of two he's walked twice you know between Langston and Guinean they've lost 10 men made by Langston to buy Guinean Ben's going to get up and going from Montreal once again drop all of you by 10 that is runners on first and second McClendon rounded a single event and that brings up Vance law with nobody out Lord's been on base four times today with a couple of hits and a couple of walks and he finds the hole on the left side of the infield so the Cubs in business here got to put some daylight between themselves and the Expo [Music] quite often in this kind of a situation Don Zimmer's been known to start the hit run with both runners breaking he's going to make some contact with vari Hill at second base Lance lava river Here I am once again in the bullpen these runs are important together there they go swung on to drop all the short throw to first in time with the runners are advanced and so he didn't get him moving again and law came through by hitting the ball on the ground no chance to make a play on the other two men and we have runners at second third only one out sure there's not the management in your past here made a pretty good call at Venice law does the job by making contact and no chance for spike Owen to do anything but take me out at first yeah but what I'm afraid of why I didn't think the law would bun as important as these runs are they will walk arraignments and that's what now they have a chance to do and Domingo has been on base four times in a row 202 today three out of four yesterday we had five times in a row that means until now been safely on the last time up flied out even on base today four times this V is fifth time in a row they're the two guys who are spinning the wheel in the game of baseball Parcher the RM Zimmer Buck Rogers going to be Steve Frey coming in the game and for the left hand around the mound Don Zimmer still has the trump card to play and that's the suicide Jim frying the little left-hander no relation tried to bribe dude fry rather but he spells the last name for the same way now the bases are honored the predicament that Don Zimmer is he's got is number one piece relief pitcher in the ballgame you can't pinch-hit for him you have nobody left who can hold them it's got to be sink or swim with Mitch Williams there you take a look at Steve Frey who has been very effective for Buck Rogers won a No 159 he RA on for the 11th time he's a specialist he doesn't go long into the game 11 and a third innings 11 hit he hasn't given up a homer yet walked seven struck out eight and there is a meeting between Chuck patty air [Music] and Mitch Williams cry is committed one block no wild good-looking format standpoint Mitch Williams has a big grin on his face you think he's a little too tight hairy to play this video is just remarkable young man I love him and he's meeting with everybody as well share the well now he's meeting with dick Pole they're letting him know with pride rose cry a little offender [Music] take a look at the pride he's five nine hundred and seventy pounds [Music] [Applause] in Newton Pennsylvania last year with Indianapolis the only appeared in 13 games he came over from the meta organization at Tidewater in 1988 he was a football basketball baseball star it's good I don't know what that's got to do it is he's coming in with a bases-loaded one out and Mitch Williams I hit her ground ball to the shortstop out at home and our five protester uttering let's say they're gonna leave out a bruise on the inside and alive [Applause] [Music] so let's wait here [Music] the place of this arrow for one out his strode out the first kittens this Wiggum but he was quickly called out because he's not in the baseline the swatch here we go and Dan was arguing with the wrong guy he went to argue with bruce fremming the call belongs to bill pond and he was inside the line just barely but enough and that's all it took I made the call it was a correct call and so we go into the bottom of the ninth the score still comes five Montreal four another trade listener this one the fillings of prey that Center pilla want Samwell with the New York Mets in exchange for Center bigger Lenny Dykstra and relief pitcher Roger McDowell and a player to be named later Wow when a trade for Philadelphia they've got a man to replace them well in centerfield and they certainly needed a reliever the quality of roger mcdowell their santa benefit city first it's fouled by Santo Vania is hitting 263 the second time he's been able to pinch it this year he usually the starting catcher just knock off the disabled list with a fractured finger 1 1 the count [Applause] / slather my one ball one strike five four in the bottom of the ninth the Cubs leading [Applause] hey sweet pudding the pictures of record is still is fogging Richard by lucky for the club mark Langston for the Expo William shooting from safe number 17 [Applause] I saw [Applause] Stav all dance law hazard over the first run away Sam Sylvania roads to law one gone that will bring up Otis Nixon who crippled him to put one out of four for the day he tried to his 7-foot pop out and he might just do it again but Williams falling off the mound to the third-base side and that's exactly what Don Zimmer who is right on top of the situation is telling Lloyd McClendon playing for the bun both the cleanser man law enclosed strike ball one strike to nothing oldest mixer [Applause] we'll look outside one thing about Don Zimmer and that is regardless of if his moves worker don't work he is very rarely if ever out manic this man is on top of most every situation and who can tell my that big sigh that is never real comfortable out there in Montreal especially with Mitch Williams on the Mount is just no breathing room one ball one strike there's a fly ball Andre Dawson town one more new ball game is over looking super big look around also Buck Rogers [Applause] [Laughter] Jim is also talking about the first bunt from Rex Hudler remember the most animated manager in baseball and what a treat to have him on the bench every day boy here is the guy they got to get out with Galarraga coming up next Rex Hudler [Applause] five four cups strike ball one strike two nothing Hubbard very fast hitting 333 with three homers who originally signed up by the Yankees he truck noise he was trying to go he had to make enough and to go out of the way but he was threatening to Donovan he thought of giving out of the way hoping to fit with him [Applause] who can tell these on one of the ball players making three million dollars a year hi fouled back out of play he knows Harry that his job is very simple he's not a home run hitter he's got to keep it alive for Galarraga and reigns that means getting on base any way you can but Mitch Williams seems to have is pretty good control today and when he gets the ball over the plate he is very difficult to hit [Applause] one ball two strike here it is fouled it back there was study a rival manager in the heat of action [Applause] one ball two strikes [Applause] long drive left field cuffs can't wear cops when I come out of the dugout and the cuffs came to Montreal they saw and they conquered and they leave leading by a game and a half and they game the full game on all their pursuers today wow what a ballgame again and Mitch Willy as one saved his 17th of the year whoo we'll be back for the troubles of Brooklyn
