Wow, a race broadcast segment featuring drivers saying negative things about NASCAR's decision. You never see that anymore.
That segment was better than anything done in the last 10-15 years at least. Talked you through it, didnβt treat you as an idiot or brand new fan, explained the context behind it, included driver comments, and gave both sides.
Hell would freeze over if you saw someone criticizing the Chase/Playoffs on NASCAR affiliated programming today. Or, heavy fines for βconduct detrimental to stock car racing.β
In hindsight, Kenny and Petty have a case, that restrictor plates did make the sport more dangerous. You never really heard the word βthe big oneβ until after its implementation.
Then again, what NASCAR is doing now hasnβt changed much of anything as we just saw one of the worst wrecks ever with Newman. Maybe it was destined to just end up as pack racing as time went on.
All these comments and no one called me out for accidentally writing Daytona 500 instead of Winston 500. You all are the best :)

Yeah but there was really no better solution.
Did anybody else end up watching the whole fuckin thing?
Is pack racing dangerous? Yes
But cars averaging lap times at 210MPH is also dangerous. As long as NASCAR runs at Daytona and Talladega, itβs always going to be a βpick your poison.
Just an example, they'll never do it. Rolex runs the road course so them slowing for the banked turns wouldn't affect them as much. They put a chicane on the back stretch.
