hey what's up guys and welcome to another video this is my latest purchase a 1970 chevy monte carlo with a big block 454. so story on this car is it's in jen's neighborhood actually and i've been seeing it all the time ever since she bought her house it's had flat tires the whole time uh just just on the front and i say you know what are you doing with that would you be interested in selling it and he said yeah yeah that would make an offer so we came up with a good price he said that it runs and drives fine just put air in it hasn't been ran in about six years though from what he said and maybe not on the road since 2011 but i said you know what i'll take this thing off your hands i like it this is as i'm told by buddy joe he told me this is the rich man's chevelle back in the day and now i suppose it's the the poor man chevelle since these don't hold their value not quite as much show you the interior on it power windows it's got that monte carlo dash that just like i have in the chevelle which by the way a lot of you guys are probably wondering what do you do with the 71 chevelle you have too and the truth of it is i'm still waiting for a title on that so that's this uh this is just gonna be kind of a fun car that'll do some work too hopefully it doesn't need too much uh and it's basically the same same car right that's sticky ugh the steering wheel cleaned up uh but we're gonna be just throwing a battery in this getting it running and driving at home about uh 25 minutes so it should be fun and hopefully things go well said he had the top redone in here too that's a nice shape now the body work was done at mako and you know it's not it's not the best ever like he's got rust coming back out here and there um you can see like this little it's got chips like this around where you can see the rust peeking peeking back out and you got like 20 keys on this thing all right so we did mention that it had some spares we got uh taiwanese plastic hubcaps factory oe looks like the trim that goes down so these these came with the chrome trim that goes around the bottom although i think it looks kind of cool uh without that new oem grille yeah a towable tube leather stripping and i guess a bunch of other stuff new tail light housing well used tail light housing so i can't argue with that uh he said it's got a 12 bolt in it with a posi aluminum cover on there brand new gas tank three inch full exhaust still got the stickers on there too well he basically did all the work to this years ago and then just didn't do much with it she don't sound rowdy huh rear tires are actually in pretty good shape no rot that i see dated 05 the fronts unfortunately we're left empty for a while so they they are dry riding pretty bad on the side get the jfk let's get those uh see if they pump up good rotors are pretty rusted in there too but that should clean off as we go let's pop this hood open it doesn't have oh it's tucked behind here let's see these hood pops just yank it again and lift up the hood doesn't really want to stay that well but there you go looks like a big block to me it's got long tube headers on it inch and three quarter uh hookers actually factory ac in this car he said it originally came with a 305 when he bought it and it was a slug today c works and everything so we'll see about that um battery let's see if that has any juice now we're stone cold dead looks like somebody threw a different column in this too because it's got the floor shifter or maybe vice versa i'm not sure he's got a stereo just bungee corded down here factory one would go right there and those operate nice right up to level actually that was about a half inch overfull it's got a little trans dip stick nice red fluid on there about three inches down in the red hoses are pliable belts good i've got our [Music] right yeah plenty of fluid in there cool i was rolling around this is actually really clean underneath i mean the frame's in excellent condition um power steering no leaks a little bit on the high pressure hose with that box not even a trickle we're a little low on the power steering fluid but it's at the bottom of the stick and that seems to be pumping up we're up to 28. holley air cleaner some cobwebs uh but this is a demon on here that that actually looks sharp that thing though got good throttle actuation it's got fuel in there too and pump that up a bunch starting to look like rain get going here [Music] dropping optima in here no sparking and this one pumped up to 36 too you got the fuel primed up let's give it a shot [Music] [Applause] there it is the guy wasn't lying he's definitely a runner [Music] [Music] just terrible so far driving pretty good let's try out these windows oh look at that even the power windows work how about the other side yeah yeah buddy got uh charging voltage 60 psi oil pressure looks like our our water temp came up about 160. speedometer is working fuel gauge does not work how about the brakes we should try those oh wants to go left but they're working definitely a bouncy ride those tires are hopping a bunch i can feel it but i mean suspension and steering feel nice on it let's take this turn here huh race car i think the speed limit is like 25 here actually oh my yeah she got some ball a bit geez 494 for premium ouch [Music] oh that was under a lot of pressure i'm hoping she takes good half tank or so to water down that old feel sweet we're already at eight gallons that's great because whatever was burning did not smell good i'm actually surprised it ran as good as it did first right back up look at that throw it like a top [Music] oh yeah yes you got some balls just smash and go [Music] bauer's there but definitely gotta work on the brakes before we go mashing that uh in traffic it's definitely got some highway gears in it too because we're doing about 50 only at 2 000 rpm i mean it's shaking because the tires but put the horn that works the transmission shifting super smooth too he said it has a 3600 rpm stall converter and a turbo 400 it's a nice combo although i wish it was manny but what are you gonna do i gotta just leave this camera going the whole time an old man just pulled it next to me said i remember those days ah it's gold we're doing a gps 65 mile an hour only 2 600 rpm so far so good nothing's nothing's breaking could pick up on the highway too what do you think stacy just got to finish cutting up this trailer loading this aluminum up i'm gonna drop the monty off and get back to work [Music] [Applause] [Music] oh my god just did a shakedown on the front end nice and tight pop these wheels off check the brakes we got plenty of meat on those front pads riveted they actually look newer no binding and the hoses now those could stand to be replaced a little dry rot and such same deal over on the passenger side except we got heavy groove in the center so and actually this brake hose looks newer i don't see any dry rod on this one at all probably clean up these grease zerks and hit those with some grease as well the front springs somebody put uh little spacers in there probably because these were originally meant for a small block not a big block so a little sagging in the front i guess that works putting the big block springs wouldn't be a bad idea though here's another glance at those hooker competition long tube headers tight fit squeezing through there that actually comes real close in fact yeah it's actually scraping just a touch there that's some fresh looking drums in the rear made in argentina i cannot say i've ever seen any drums made in argentina break adjustments right two on them nice and healthy looking under here plenty of meat left on these riveted shoes and check behind the dust seals on these wheel cylinders for any brake fluid seepage touch onto the front actually so we'll take those apart at a later time polish out the bores or just replace them unfortunately on the passenger rear a little bit worse of a leak out of those wheel cylinders so luckily it's not gear oil 69 olds axle in it we'll definitely have to replace the rear shoes just taking a quick walk underneath you can see there was some patchwork done in the trunk area but look at this original brake lines that speaks volumes about this car in my opinion shocks are real fresh it's got brand new links in the back with greaseable zerks on them up top as well there's that three inch exhaust which they did a nice job however i don't like how close it comes to the gas tank and you can see it's actually been kissing there just a touch so i'll have to clearance that and put a buffer in between but here's walking down the rest i mean this is all original and it's just in really nice condition for 1970 compared to some of the other vehicles that i've seen now very impressed just look at that turbo 400 it's definitely uh seems like it's been scraped up a little bit on the bottom it's missing the cover down on the converter look at the motor so we got the brass freeze plugs all arp hardware on there on the engine mounts too i love how everything's greaseable on these older cars you look at the fuel pump it's got an am fitting on it don't see any major leaks except for the high pressure hose off the power steering and that's been kind of chaffing through on the uh rad fan shroud so we'll have to get a new one of those but otherwise guys i'm going to say it's pretty darn clean under here oh that one got smashed in too that's what you get with a lower car maybe that's why you put the front spacers on uh yeah i mean i'm just very impressed with how clean all the original lines are and how clean that frame is nice i was able to hit all 19 grease zerks and then i got this exhaust clearance for the block of wood now i pull that out it should that help to that a little bit i might just have to dent in the tank a little bit or rearrange the exhaust it's got a new glass for the mirror this is like an aftermarket one see that is really rusted and it's kind of about to fall off so that's just embarrassing let's fix that this just hooks right on the tab and i'll probably have to bend or tweak that little bit so it oof it stays on it's just a crummy design actually i think i need to modify this and double carbide bit we'll do it this little one can grind out the aluminum a few minutes of fiddling with that and i have her secured on there good now i'll break clean clean the residue off i'll dab on each pad a few dabs around the perimeter for good luck a little wiggle back and forth call that good and the driver's side's got good glass but same problem with that little tab so i'll have to modify that there we go that one i used a drill bit on it worked a little bit better than the double carbide just to be safe on the driver's side i ran a tiny bead of black silicone around the entire thing in case this glass is getting ready to fall out like the other side did got these two dorks over here what are you brothers doing tucker and gus power steering hose very very easy this if this was just cocked over a little bit further never would have hit the shroud oh and actually we're missing a bolt up here on the top of the shroud and the bottom has a broken clip the other side's intact and you guys know i have terrible luck with uh radiator and shroud components there we go gotta love a crow foot with a long extension and it looks like it was even leaking at the crimps too on the new hose i always like to pull the flare nuts back and then take some kind of grease this is just silicone brake grease but really any grease at all and rub it right here that way easy to get off in the future sometimes these nuts can rust to the line for the rad got just the thing these little stainless steel wire clips for like stringing lights along the trailer frame uh it pretty much is actually the proper piece huh look at that i almost want to replace the other side with stainless but that one seems to be fun this should really have a night lock on it so we'll put a nylock on both sides i'm sure that's what happened this one probably rattled out i need one more bolt unless there's intense heat involved then nylock nuts are the best they never fail that clears this it's starting to chafe through something bigger would be nice but this will this will keep it from chafing through the hose did the same thing on the power steering hoses so that can't come up hit the shroud or rub and chafe through onto the gear i could have used nylon webbing hydraulic hose sleeves like these uh you see on a lot of tractors and such i've got a whole bunch in here these you generally would slide over the hose before installing it though i didn't find any leaks on these front tires more than likely just a bead leak and maybe some rust on there but you see after i let air out look at that memory from sitting flat for so long so he's had real bad hop going down the road and i picked up a set of iron mans these are only 80 bucks a piece made in thailand wow [Applause] so thing lived 50 years without that psychopath owning it and now it's got to deal with this a big bolt just came out i don't know oh no what is that it's somebody's hack work oh who's that come from who's your mechanic that's all i wanted to put this car together yeah with that we'll find out later yeah okay let's see you stop the engine stalls and a bolt just falls out a big old like freaking three-quarter inch bolt she passed the test as long as she starts back up all right she's got some balls yeah yeah she does all right uh all right well she passed the test for sure that was hammered down but definitely just got rubber on my new tat oh really yeah i want to know if you look forward to your perfect cup of coffee wow 6.66 gallons and that was only 33 miles with ted i've reset the trip divided by 6.66 4.95 miles to the gallon horrible gotta run in the store and get some parts just making sure there's nothing else i might need let's go shoes wheel cylinder should always replace the drums when they get brake fluid on them since that oil soaks into the cast iron it's very porous and yeah can can lead to short life with the new uh brake job but i'll just clean this off with some brake clean and reuse it'll be all right it's not going cross country in this thing it's not a daily driver and i did just notice there's a big crack in the frame that somebody had welded look at that not a big deal but something that should be addressed no crack on the other side plenty of rubber from doing doughnuts and we really wore these down but these are old tires anyway oh no big deal taken to varla best parts runner ever scooters might oh scooters might look a little dorky but it makes up for it with a 35 mile an hour top speed lee's favorite part of brakes seized up fittings a little heat goes a long way though there it goes work that in and we'll be able to see that brake line you know these were crummy shape pistons still moved though i've gone over drum brakes a good amount in other videos so i'm not really going into much detail just don't forget to clean and lubricate your three pads on the backing plate each side has them and sometimes they're really grouped in like this this one is where really that should be like welded and then re-machined but it'll be all right and then i like to lubricate those with either like a nickel anti-seize or copper anti-seize aluminum anti-seize anything or grease that's all you got to just make sure it's high temp brake grease everybody's got their kind of ways of doing it just put him back together the way they came apart right i like to take silicone brake grease and rub it inside of here because this is where the rust always starts and once they get rusted inside the bores then they uh that's when they start leaking and then i take that residual silicone grease and rub it all over the cast iron so it doesn't flash rust immediately and uh yeah put it on put them in foreign flush up this old drum real good spike new no oily residue quick break adjustment and we will be done and got the driver's side all done too remember primary shoe the smaller one always goes toward the front courtesy of jen got the brakes all bled out [Music] what's she doing there oh nothing chicken coke you looking tucker's wiener [Music] i think i'll have a pepsi now he's another over here a little bigger than mine i love the green interior [Music] look at that supposed to have a bracket holding the high pressure power steering hose on that's what mine taped through missing i gotta say though definitely my favorite body style for the monte carlo right here it says 80s like nothing else i think it's time for a close-out on this video and i think we're going to do something a little different uh i'm putting this car up on ebay so it's the time you're seeing this video it will be listed i'll drop a link down below uh you know so if you've always wanted a 1970 monte carlo or you know somebody that wants one check check out the link whatever share it to your friends uh not a perfect car definitely still needs some odds and ends it is going to include all those trim pieces you saw in the trunk all the parts i might just keep like the rally caps couple odds and ends but anything monte carlo specific related in the trunk that is all included uh the ac doesn't work that needs to be recharged up everything is there i just haven't done it as you've seen in the video like yes there's lots of odds and ends that still need to be addressed uh the brakes it has like a very slight pull to the left when you first apply them it's probably just the front brake hoses i kind of just bought this car because i always wanted it to own one for a little bit and we've had it for a few months it's been a very fun car went to several car shows with it people love it it looks amazing from you know 10 feet away you get up close you're going to start seeing the imperfections from the last restoration again not a perfect car but i think this video does a good job of showing everything it might need it certainly deserves uh a good life and an owner who's who's you know going to keep it out of the sun i hate seeing the the sun that nice beautiful top that's in perfect condition out in the sun so if you keep this thing indoors and you touch up the minor paint stuff it you're gonna get a ton of life out of this she's uh you know use it as a daily daily driver and just have a good old time the car is 52 years old i mean it's uh she's a fun ripper and i did want to bring it to the drag strip that was one last thing i wanted to maybe do and not beat on it too hard or anything uh but the the strip is closed with all this intense heat it's like 100 degrees today and yeah i'm trying to think any last minute things i could tell you guys definitely that needs those rear tires you know i was doing burnouts on those but they were older anyway the steering is starting to get like a slight tight spot just off to the right uh maybe the gear just needs to be adjusted or a new power steering uh gearbox in there not a big deal doesn't leak at all hasn't ate any coolant or oil fires right up every time comes with it has the interstate battery in it right now it doesn't include the optima because i only got a couple of those trying to get optima to send me more batteries but uh they haven't haven't gotten back to me yet if you're watching this optima what's up come on i'm abuse using and abusing those batteries and the two they sent me have really been holding up good otherwise i guess the video should answer all your questions i'll plug some pictures of the car here at the end that i just took today and uh yeah thanks again for watching today some of you guys that that really tune in to the end on these videos i greatly appreciate that kind of thing uh keeps me motivated to keep keep on going and making new content and i i do see your requests you know i i a lot of people been asking about chevelle videos more content on that but it is such a funny story with the title on that car it's such a a mix-up i actually had the the philadelphia major crimes contact me uh i can i can talk about this now because it's all been kind of settled but he's like uh yeah he reached out to me through youtube and he's like we gotta talk buddy um and so that was a very interesting fun story that i can hopefully tell in the future but the the fury and the chevelle got uh got some things going on so gotta gotta kind of wait on that it's all good though all parties are happy and everything's cool it's just kinda it's gonna take a little time now if you made it through all that rambling thanks again for watching and link will be down below to the car on ebay if you're curious what it sells for and uh yeah yeah i'll see you in the next video i think the next one's gonna be on the john deere 310 backhoe loader should be fun all right i'll see you next one thanks guys overall [Music] guys [Music] so [Music] [Music] you [Music] you
