hi I'm Lou with another episode of my car story we're out in the western suburbs of Chicago and although it's a little bit chilly today Noelle has Telus my friend with his car Noah what did you bring to the people on the channel today we have a 1960 chrysler 300f coupe and knowles not just a 300 owner but share with them a little bit about your interest in the club we have the Chrysler 300 club internacional it will be celebrating as 50th anniversary next year in 2020 we've got about 750 members I'm one of the directors of the club and last week we had our meet Lewisville Texas a suburb of Dallas and I drove this car 2300 mile round-trip very nice in the rain and the wind and tornado warnings and hail warnings and think I didn't see any tornados or hail but the guy ran beautifully I truly 300 car club guys so let's go right to our featured attraction and I'll just share that right there and stuff with me please know we're gonna be asking you questions about this one so first how long have you had it we had this car about 15 years and came to Chicago 20 years ago from a dealer out in Northern California now obviously it's gorgeous but why this car out of all the cars in the world what started your fascination with the 300s they were the performance cars for Chrysler I grew up with Chrysler's my folks hate Chrysler's but they were the inexpensive 4-door sedans Windsor Newport but have always had a passion for Chryslers the 1955 was the first year the Chrysler 300 name came from 55 to 56 the Chrysler 300 151 honor one the estart races so they dominated so this car caught your heart just because it was the bad wolf it was the one that was winning the races well this came after 55 and 56 there was a little falling-out between the rent and France boys who owned NASCAR and Carl Kiekhaefer who was running the 300s seen that one more time right there this is a 1960 the race cars were 55 and 56 campaign by Carl Kiekhaefer out of Wisconsin who also founded mercury marine and Mercury outboard and he had a falling out with the France brothers who were the France family who owned the US car because they were upset Chrysler was dominating the NASCAR races so after 56 these were not race at NASCAR anymore but continued to be the performance icons for Chrysler for many years we can see that F right in there and as I understand it the first one was 55 and then they literally start adding letters to them that's correct the designation started in 56 with the 300 b c d e f was the 60 then they went G H they skipped I the J was 463 K for 64 and L was the final one 65 so the three hundreds that are out there kind of now are those M's or that they had some three hundreds I think in the 90s or 2000s yeah the M was with a little script of an Adam came out trying to harken back to the the good old days and that was just a six-cylinder and today there's 300 again that have been out for about 15 or 20 years they're not these cars they're not the ones that have this so these taillights were highlighted by the hot rodders of the time they were the boomerang taillights one year only 1960 although they were also used on the 61 Chrysler wagons as well as the sixties very highly sought after and you see them on a lot of customized and hot rod cars so now what is this that we have here it's supposed to emulate a spare tire it is it's the called the flight sweep decklid by Chrysler we call it the toilet seat it harkens back to the nineteen teens 20s 30s when some of the old classics had the spare tire mounted on the back or maybe two spare tires mounted on the back of the car because the roads were so bad and the tires were so bad that they got flats all the time but there's no spare tire mounted directly underneath this trunk litter and we're going to see that because being someone with as much interest as Noah has we have some definite trunks trunk treats I'll take a peek yeah let's take a peek okay so there's our trunk that's a big trunk it is I am over 61 and I've got to crawl in there to get to the back so I'm gonna take my time with some of these this was actually your car correct it is I mean these are all the details for your exact car so sometimes when people like all of the stats here you have them all right this was relatively late production was shipped May 13th of 1960 now lose this brochure it just talks about displays some of the open safety seats a woman luminize mufflers duffel hood latch so it doesn't pop open when we're driving electric windshield wipers okay I'll put that there being very careful some stuff on the opposite side as well your Chrysler 300 performance this would have come in the glove box of the car when you picked it up and this one is signed by Virgil Exner jr. on the front cover his father was the designer of this car on the forward with Chrysler's from 55 into the early 60s Sheila for 13 cubic inch yes this is the second year of the 413 first year of the RAM induction just gives some of the tune-up specs and some of the other specs for setting engine settings what they I love about your trunk entreats here is there is not a lot missing we actually took a lot of brochures and said these aren't probably all of them that we need and you can see how many we have the service man you know this one I'm going to go through because this is the actual time period correct that is the brochure from back in the day is not a reproduction that's also signed by virtual exeter jr. so I'm gonna be very careful with this I'll let you take a look at that now you shared something with me that I didn't notice at first but these are all black and white yes Chrysler when they started marketing the 319 55 and going forward the letter car brochures were all in black and white I'm not sure about the 64 and 65 but up through 63 certainly they were all black and white bold confession the inner circle the sound of authority so you enjoy drive in this car and you bring this car everywhere and I want to a credit to yourself I you know you really enjoy educating people about this car so this is a lot of fun I do tower clock shows I've driven at about 20,000 miles just to club shows in the last 10 years I put about 60,000 miles on this car it's got a neat shot of just the engineering rare convertibles and they made 248 of these in a convertible to whom it concerns we also call this the bankers hot rod wonderful wonderful wonderful matter of fact it's a spine Tingler and this ad here somebody ads from back in the day yeah and now that chrysler 300f puncture wonderful let's move on to the interior shall we so let me give people the overall and even the backseats fantastic one of the things I absolutely adore they did with this car is that although it's as big as a house they split those seats to give you this four seat bucket feel and so that you don't forget a massive 300 logo emblem right in the day of the full length capsule which reappeared in the 1966 and 67 Dodge Chargers let me not forget that body plate body play the paint code pp one and an interior coat 353 the interior coat 353 was the standard tan leather interior special-ordered floor but were special water with the white interior this is that one of those cars and the paint coat pp1 was toreador red which was a deep red metallic color so while this car was out in California 2530 years ago prior owner wanted it white so he painted it a bright white color and put the white leather in the seat you're sitting on is about three weeks old brand-new seat foam and brand-new leather just done three weeks ago well we have caught this car at the right time and might I add your new seats are well fantastic now look at this pod what do they call this pod that's the Astrodome the Astrodome and this is the first year was used for three years 1662 on Chrysler's only you'll notice that Chrysler 300 has 150 mile an hour speedometer whereas on the other Chrysler products have been 120 it's got four gauges in there ammeter water temperature fuel gauge and oil pressure and that dome lights up at night and whoo I think you'll have a little video of it or shots of it later on in this video well right on cue no let's see what it looks like now and there we go so let's go right over there are no bulbs in that door but you say there's a small transformer in there with the phosphorescent paint it lights up beautifully tonight as you can see let's take a look under the hood show ya people love this yeah that is awesome show me that again sure so a little handles in addition some of the many of the 310 power seats this car was more of a stripped bottle so it did not have power seats very cool yes for back in the day when the ladies had their pencil skirts and they could get out of the cars much more gracefully yep very nice let's let's take a look under the hood shall we it's a little dirty bio triple asked me because I have to clean up so that's cool now this is the I just want to show that this just gets in perspective you're 6 foot 1 it's over you're that's that make your voice good I don't bump my head yeah no this one you don't bump your head on it's just fantastic so what is this here a firing order or something no that's the the code of one it was produced okay and it's a high-performance 41 means 413 and I think this was produced and I forget it's something to do with me yes okay then linkage is cool yep we've got fixed linkage working two four-barrel Carter AFB carburetors these are the RAM induction the cross Rams they are cast aluminum not cast-iron but they're still very heavy and it's got a the center tube is a equalizer balancing tube to equalize the pressure these gave it their 30-inch runners and they gave it the super charging effect back then the Chrysler engineers that were hat right errs also they've been playing with this for a number of years so this is the first year with standard this was also the last year for the generator for Chrysler's across the board they went to all sixty-one of the 1960 valiance had Jenna alternators in the nine or so four-speed Chrysler 300 ELPS that were made had alternators also let's fire it up shall we sure one thing I'm going to ask you to do I see these dual horns will ask you to beep the horn I'll show that linkage a little exhaust sound and we'll have you give it just the round then you ought to turn the taillights on for just a moment or hit the brakes thanks no perfect body shakes give me one more read that hold body six at all I think the only thing left we should do is take it for a quick ride what do you think okay I'm gonna jump in that Potter's are so cool I mean isn't it I mean that's just great bad state-of-the-art engineering yeah pretty cool it sounds smooth it's pretty good I got a couple squeaks and rattles ice life it's a good runner it is a 1965 my service would be normal now a silly question because we like silly questions what's the fastest you maybe a touch over a hundred really how was it at 100 it's good the suspension on this car is about 40% stiffer than the standard Chrysler's and they were all excellent driving cars because Chrysler with its torsion bar suspension we prepared the Chrysler's on a track to some of the GM and Ford cars and really showed it stuff traffic here very good don't open yeah it goes ok it's not a 4-cylinder not a four-cylinder sounded great too nice all up all the barrels open on that one holy Paul they don't that is awesome well then people like what they say subscribe to the channel not only subscribe but there's a little bell hit that bill you'll see all those videos know what a treat thanks for bringing out your 300f I am excited to see what people think of your car it's absolutely beautiful and it's such a wonderful finned car it's absolutely tremendous thanks so much for being on my car story my pleasure [Music]
