17" HP Envy - Restoration ( Repairs + Max Upgraded + Dual OS )

this is a 17 inch HP Envy high class laptop but for the several issues hey what's up everyone I'm Andrew and in this video we will back in function this laptop and make some pool upgrades [Music] hey everyone and in this video we have this 17 inch HP Envy high class laptop with a beautiful design great specs but with a several issues well first let's take a look at the specs and what is missing on this laptop this laptop is coming with Intel i7 4708 q CPU this is 4 cores a treat CPU with Intel HD 4600 Rafiq's but except Intel HD graphics this model is coming with dictated Nvidia GT 740 m GPU with 2 gigs of ddr3 video memory and the ROM is 8 gigs ddr3 the specs are pretty good the laptop actually is functional I mean the harbour is good but this laptop is without hard disk with damage at case from the outside and from the inside the power button is damaged and the laptop won't start at first also the display is broken and some parts are missing well let's start back this laptop in function again and do some upgrades the first thing that I'm going to change is the display because to drop the cost of the repair I've decided to use a second-class use display instead of buying a new display the second-class use display is display that is fully functional but the display may have some unnoticeable or barely noticeable few scratches or if it's LED display they may have up to four or five dead pixels and this use display I got it for about a twenty four US dollars which actually is a verge price for second-class use display this second-class displays mostly are coming with dirt also and in this case the cleaning stays on me to clean the display I will use soft brushes 96% isopropyl alcohol few soft cleaning clothes and cotton buds for the corners or the edges and as always I need to say a few words if you're going to clean some display then you need to be a very careful do not press the display hard you need to press very soft and very gentle and especially be careful with the displays corners I mean with the display edges never let any kind of liquid to passes over the displays edges because the display on the edges is very sensitive and if the liquid goes there then you may damage the entire display well the displays shining like a new and on the display I didn't notice any scratches but maybe there is something other now first let's take out the old and broken display from the laptop and place this functional display changing the display basically is pretty easy but if you're going to change some large display like this one then you need to be a very careful because the larger displays are much easier to damage but also accept the display you may damage I mean break the display holders so if you're going to do something like this just take some time do not rush and all steps do it slowly and carefully [Music] in this case I will replace the display in a horizontal position I mean with closed lid in this position it's much safer to change large display like this one and I want risk to damage the holders or to damage the display [Music] [Music] [Music] well everything is looking fine and now I can turn on the laptop the display has no scratches but it has a several spots three of them are very small and unnoticeable but one is larger I mean this one but all of them are visible only if you look the display from a side but when you look the display from the front side only the large spot is visible but only if I use a pure white background but if the background is in color then all spots are unnoticeable now after finish with the display I will move on disassembling I need to check the laptop from the inside because this laptop looks very suspicious to me I will need to repair the power button I will need to clean the laptop from the inside clean the cooling and change the thermal paste [Music] [Music] [Music] after I remove the bottom case and the motherboard I found that a laptop case is damaged it around the holders but that is not the biggest problem the holders are sticked with to compound glue that is very strong and impossible to remove and if I try to remove this glue I can only break the case and maybe the holders well in this situation I will do the necessary repairs only because the case is looking good without other larger damages but also the cost of the new case is not really cheap the cheaper option that I found is 103 US dollars for the case only plus 10 US dollars shipping so in total is 113 US dollars which is pretty expensive and a thing it does not work for that price first I done a detailed cleaning from the inside I cleaned the case and a clean the other components that were placed on the case then I move on the power button fixing the power button it was very easy between the buttons insert a very thin layer so basically here I fill the empty space that was between the case I mean the small plastic button on the case and the power button on the board now after finish between in the case under the keyboard in the bottom case I move on cleaning the motherboard first I will remove that white thermal paste from the CPU and a GPU and then I will clean the motherboard from the dust [Music] [Music] well now after finished with a motherboard I will clean the heatsink and a cooling fan [Music] [Music] [Music] well everything is done here and now all shine again like in you [Music] [Music] well basically all is done here and now it's time to moan the motherboard and assemble the laptop [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] well this is it and now let's do some upgrades I will upgrade around from eight geeks ddr3l upgrade to 16 gigs ddr3 also 16 gigs of ram is maximum that this model support now let's move on the discs because this laptop will have a two operating systems I will install two SSDs the first one is 512 gigs natok and second is 480 gigs kingston but there is another problem the disk enclosures are missing and the second disc cable is missing also so in this case I had to order the boat the disk enclosure I got it for 10 US dollars each and the cable cost 10 US dollars also but a problem is they didn't arrive on time so I will mount it after I receive for now I will use a small pieces of foam to make the disk stable but this is temporary solution only and the last operate is an additional 500 gigs hard disk this hard disk I will mounted instead cd-rom and this hard disk will be the data disk for the both operating systems also to monitor disk instead a cd-rom of the use and nine point five millimeter disk caddy well after it done with all our braids and move from cleaning the keyboard and the rest of the case because I want to make this laptop shine again like a new to clean the keyboard I would use a soft brush cotton buds and 96% alcohol also known as isopropyl alcohol also if you're going to clean a laptop keyboard you need to be a very careful the laptop keyboards are very sensitive and easy to damage especially be careful with liquids even pure alcohol like this one may damage the entire keyboard but if the alcohol or the liquid passes to the inside between the keyboard layers [Music] [Music] now after make the laptop case shine again I cover the broken part using a carbon vinyl I done this because to stop entering dust in the upper case but also the case will look a little bit better well basically this is yet the laptop is looking great again and it's fully functional also the power button is working well and a laptop starting at a forest now I don't have to press the button multiple times until against the winners combination to start a laptop now after have done with all upgrades and cleaning I move on installing Windows as Windows I used Windows 10 home premium because this laptop has already connected home premium with sans after I install the windows first I make online Windows activation and then I continue with installing the drivers now let's move on the performance and testing the laptop is working pretty fast starting from booting into the windows and all other basic things because this is a little bit better Hardware on this laptop I can do some medium tasks I mean is good for editing some short videos playing games and watching 4k movies and videos and all other basic things as always because I want to do an additional tests install a few of my favorite games and the first game on the list is GTA 5 in GTA v are used medium to low settings and native scrim solution I mean 1600 x 900 the GTA 5 is running pretty smooth without any lags or any other issue the framerate most is above 40 which is very surprising and the GTA 5 is fully playable [Music] [Music] the next game on the list is call of duty modern warfare 3 the call of duty is running pretty well in pretty smooth also without any issues or locks the framerate most is about 240 but sometimes even go more which make this game fully playable also while gaming the temperatures are normal and always going without any problem [Music] now after finished with the windows and all test there I move on installing the second operating system to the other SSD and on the second SSD I install Ubuntu Ubuntu is a great and free operating system highly customizable and great to learn a lot about developing Ubuntu is working great also without any problems bugs or anything else and I think this hardware is perfect for this operating system and the last question is this laptop still good this model is about a five years old but aspects are still good the intel i7 4700 M is still good and fast cpu the nvidia 740 m with 2 gigs of video memory is a ver GPU but is still good for mid-range games and mid-range tasks the 16 gigs of ram and the SSD are also boosting the performance and make this laptop running faster also this laptop is capable for dual boot or multi boot in this case one SSD is for windows ii SSD is for winners and a third disc I mean the hard disk in this case is for data and if something happens to Windows or Linux the data will be safe on the data disk well this is all about this 17 inch and view laptop I
